Idk who has seen Haven before, but I’ve just gotta get something off my chest. I think Duke and Audrey should have been together. Their chemistry was sooooooooo much better than her and Nathan. The only thing that I could see changing my mind is if Nathan was played by a decent actor. I CANNOT stand the guy who actually played him. His acting makes me cringe so much that I’m surprised at how many times I have rewatched.

The Trial of Audrey Parker

Nearly at the end of season one on the @havenfanrewatch already! My thoughts on episode 11;

It might not be the happiest story line, but I think Nathan and Garland are so well done in this. The writing, the acting; it builds on both their characters and the wider story line too (with Garland knowing more about what the Troubles are than he said to Nathan). 

Love this from Garland: “ I may not be the best father in the world, but there's a reason I'm the chief.” So True

It’s a great Duke episode too, for similar reasons in that it builds on his character and his back story: the arguing with Julia about his life; his bad ass moments with his stored guns and being ready to shoot their kidnappers in the face. Love it.

Like this: “I'm an exceptional crook.” Perfect

This ep has one of the behind the scenes facts I always remember; Emily Rose feeling really sea sick while they were out at sea (because the boat was rocking about so much because it was not actually entirely sea worthy in the strictest sense of the term) and having to lie down between takes. 

I love Garland and Duke’s exchange when they get off the boat and Garland asks Duke about Tobias being all beaten up. (“What happened there?” / “He fell. A lot.” / “Rough seas?” / “Sounds good to me.”) Logically, Garland has almost as much reason to dislike/distrust Duke as Nathan does, but he doesn’t really seem to in that moment.

Howard and Garland’s conversation at the very end is obviously meant to be intriguing, and it works! I’d love to see their back story; how well they really know each other. Did they speak in the 1980s? How often do they talk now? arrgghh so many questions

1. What originally drew me to it

Hmm. Someone recommended it to me, but I forget who it was now. =/

I think I decided to watch it because I was on a bit of a supernatural-themed-shows kick at the time (I might be remembering incorrectly, but I believe I began watching it right after finishing The Secret Circle... which I watched after Teen Wolf and TVD), and I ended up loving it because I found the premise - and character relationships - so intriguing.

DUKE CROCKER. I mean... you know how I love a good scoundrel-turned-good-guy redemption arc, and Duke's is just GLORIOUS. (And SO FREAKIN' TRAGIC, OH MY GOD.) 2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?*

I don't know if there's any OTPs in FC5 that qualify. I mean, I brotp Sharky and Hurk Jr. but I feel like most people wouldn't ship it? I can't personally ship with Joseph, but I have no hate in my heart for anyone who does.

In TOW, I uh... Millsoto makes me see red like Jake's playing Only You for me. (To mix my fandom metaphors whoops.) I'm not trying to stop anyone, by all means you do you! I just do not want to see it.

For Horizon, I have some reservations about Elisabet/Tilda and Aloy/Tilda, though I understand where others are coming from with it.

3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?

No. I don't mind having people around with different opinions as long as everyone's respectful about it. That's part of the fun, tbh, hearing perspectives I haven't thought of or don't hold myself. It's just fandom, it's all in good fun, and I respect people having fun differently than I do with the same source. We're all here for a good time.

4. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?*

Oh my god, yes, many many many times. Not as much in my current fandoms, as those are mostly OC x canon ships, and I'm not going to hate on anyone's OCs. (Not even ones I personally dislike, because again. People are allowed to have their own fun.)

In general, I'm mostly over white-lead mlm ships in any and all fandoms. They simply get too much of the attention pie. I've had my fill of typical slash after so many decades.

If you want some tea, here's some ships from old fandoms I'm sick of: Lassie/Shawn in Psych (why is there no Shawn/Gus, seriously wtf.), Destiel. Destiel. Destiel. I'm glad it was never made canon, y'all can stay mad about it. Nathan/Duke in Haven. It's not valid unless it's an Audrey sandwich. The OT3 is the only valid ship. They're both too in love with Audrey to see anyone else. McDanno in H50. I loved them until that was all that existed. :/

Sorry, there might be some spoilers in this post. Beware! But I'm calling out to some of the Haven fans out there! I know some of you might follow me and I follow you so...

I am rewatching Haven and it’s still a wonder how I’m supposed to believe that this isn’t also a love story between Nathan and Duke. Just saying. I’m always going to firmly believe in them as on and off again exes. It’s what I’ll bring to the rewatch every single time and no one can stop me. Frankly, the biggest reveals of their relationship don't really start (in my opinion) until 1x03 and onward (forever stuck on, “Sleeping Beauty is awake and I’m done playing Prince Charming.”) The biggest reveal is obviously showing us that Nathan does care about Duke (see episode 1x05 Ball and Chain)..okay, I wasn’t trying to make a Nathan and Duke post, but really what I wanted to ask of the Haven fans out there...how exactly do we think Nathan’s affliction works? It’s got to be hard playing a character described at its base foundations as “someone who doesn’t feel anything.” Kudos to Lucas Bryant. Problem is, I feel as if they were going for it’s just physical, yet emotionally Nathan totally feels everything? Not the physical sensations that come with it? Hence why it’d be so extra when he’s pushed overboard by something, or even concerned aka some of the emotions expressed in Ball and Chain when Nathan thinks Duke is dying. I think I made a post once before way back when about Nathan’s affliction, but honestly, sometimes I’m too stuck on Duke Crocker every rewatch, so what I’m trying to do now is focus on things from Nathan’s POV...though part of me still thinks it’s about Nathan and Duke who just happen to let’s say repair their “friendship” by eventually falling in love with the same woman. Which leads me to say (the Three Gulls a term I loved, who on here did coin that?)The Three Gulls (Nathan x Duke x Audrey) is what I’ll forever believe in because a lot of the time it never felt like a love triangle.

Basically, to make up for the lack of physical sensation, Nathan's emotions become heightened. Like the body still receives and responds to every emotion therefore whether or not he feels it, he’s feeling it. Does that make any sense? Still also think Nathan would cling onto the memory of something so hardcore. Therefore, if we think Nathan and Duke had some kind of past as teen/early adulthood aka a romantic relationship then perhaps Nathan holds onto a memory of knowing what that kind of touch feels like, you get me? Why is this about Nathan and Duke again? *face palm* Oh well, maybe my rewatch is a severe case of shipper goggles because I can’t get rid of them. If only this show could’ve ended differently. Though, entertaining the possibility of ghost!Duke hung about for a little while in the aftermath and Nathan could see and talk to him, perhaps even physically reach out...but I like to entertain a different epilogue, a different fate for Duke and so The Three Gulls live a happy life above the bar.

Ps. I’ve made it through most of season 2. Still not over Lockdown because it’s the start of the really close talking Nathan and Duke do. Then it’s just all the time from there. Literally right in each other’s faces for some reason. I mean…seriously, I can’t watch Haven without thinking the love story is Nathan and Duke falling in love with Audrey and it isn’t a love triangle.

It’s just a shame we couldn’t actually get on screen polyamory because imagine Duke and Nathan finally getting over it and just you know kissed each other (again)…

Since that Nathan post was such a hit, let me share the extremely indulgent but also kinda canon fitting Nuke AU I’ve got. 

The one where most of pre-canon went the way it did, only instead of potentially Nathan and Duke were definitely hooking up in a hush hush way in High School because Haven and their Fathers, and then when Duke came back it wasn’t a fight that re triggered Nathan’s Trouble. It was so much worse. 

They were actively in bed together, and midway Nathan went “I can’t feel you” and freaked out and ran. And now things are extremely awk and weird and strained between him and Duke and they’re not really speaking and everyone assumes it must be due to Crocker Crime Shit (maybe the fight is a rumor explanation) except Audrey who clearly picks up on it. 

And like before, Duke thinks Nathan blames him and he blames himself but what actually happened is Nathan was trying so so hard to not catch feels or rather not let himself feel what he does feel for Duke and keep it as buddies that sleep together that the disonance hit him midway since that was the part he was trying hardest not to feel feelings in. And so he’s super sorry bc he thinks Duke would hate knowing that (ofc not Duke caught feelings too) and Nathan blames himself. And yeah idk Audrey pushes them back together, only Nathan still can’t feel anything but her and well.
