Day1 @robniko Nominated me for the The 10 Day Comics challenge: When I was a small child (let's say four or five) my grandmother wholeheartedly supported my interest in art and drawing. (I was a tad precocious.) She gave me a stack of comic books that had previously belonged to my mother and my uncle. These were mostly EC (horror), Classics Illustrated, Harvey (Casper and Wendy)and a collected Walt Kelly Pogo for some reason(?) also a few silver age DC and Marvels. One of the books that really jumped out me was this: Superboy #157 Cover Artist: Neal Adams Get Lost, Superboy ... Who Needs You? Writer: Frank Robbins Penciler: Bob Brown Inker: Wally Wood                                     Superboy revives an ailing albino gorilla with some bananas taken from a red-sun world (as you would) and irradiated under Earth's yellow sun to impart enough super-power to the ape to ensure his survival. Unfortunately, Smallville jock Bash Bashford accidentally ingests some of the bananas, and gains super-strength. Hilarity ensues... In retrospect this introduced me to two of my biggest artistic influences: Neal Adams and Wally Wood although at the time I didn’t know squat about diddly squat when it came to art. But I do remember being completely enthralled with this book. #JackedKirby - Enter... The Buzzard!!! 💥💥💥 The character of Manhunter first appeared in Adventure Comics #Issue58 and went by the name of Paul Kirk. In #Issue73 of the series (published in April of 1942) Jack Kirby and Joe Simon took over the character and introduced another alter ego for him... Rick Nelson (although they would change it back to Paul Kirk next issue. Weirdness for another post!). But today we are gonna focus on his first villain... The Buzzard!!! 💥💥💥 The Buzzard is a costumed criminal who is making a name for himself terrorizing Empire City... robbing the rich and the police can do nothing about it! When Nelson’s good friend Officer Donovan meets his demise at the Buzzard’s hands, Nelson takes on the costumed hero persona of the Manhunter to track him down and bring him to justice!!! 💥💥💥 I love the design of this character, whose style and design looks like some future Kirby creations to come. In some ways the face looks a lot like Annihulus to me... almost insect like in its proportions. Maybe it’s the green costume that is making me think of Annihilus... he also reminds me a lot of Ditko’s early incarnations of The Vulture from the pages of Spider-Man. Either way, I love how Kirby & Simon used alternate lay out ideas and non traditional grids to bring this golden age story to life! A classic rogue... who is of course unmasked and defeated by the hero in the end!!! Fun Legal Fact ⚡️: In 1951 DC Comics (then #NationalComics ) sued Fawcett Publications over Fawcett's #CaptainMarvel character being an infringement on the copyright of National's #Superman comic. After a 4 month trial it was decided in National’s favor. Resulting in the dissolution of #FawcettComics and the cancellation of all of its superhero-related publications, including those featuring Captain Marvel and related characters. To me the lyrics (as horrible as they are) sound like it's some sort of liberation - from the past, the closet, the band, a relationship. He says he's never going back, to someone or sth that wishes things stayed the same. It's definitely a co song for me, especially given the context of all previous bi references, nationalcoming out day etc, the video etc. So larries' worst fear of them coming out sperately materialised today.

Nah. He's not coming out. Only his Harries and Larries will see it that way. Meanwhile, anyone who sees that MV will just see lots of topless sweaty people and hets will drool.
