ok so there's an evil scientist named Doctor Neo Periwinkle Cortex, and together with his lab partner Doctor Nitrus Brio he hatches a plan to take over the world by mutating animals into super soldiers.

He purchases a set of islands off the coast of Australia and begins experimenting on the wildlife. He has some success, creating various sentient anthropomorphic animal mutants with superhuman abilities. Among the experiments is Crash Bandicoot, who is set to be Cortex's general. There's also Crash's girlfriend Tawna, and his sister Coco, who through the experiments becomes a super genius.

Cortex uses a mind control device called the Cortex Vortex to brainwash his minions, but something goes wrong when he tries to use it on Crash. Crash and Coco escape, and in a bid to save his girlfriend, Crash ends up demolishing Cortex's base and foiling his plan, nearly killing Cortex. All the other animals also escape in the chaos. From then on, Crash and Coco mostly just try to enjoy their lives, while going back into action whenever Cortex has a new scheme.

The whole franchise has a very 90s cartoon vibe, which I find very charming. The rogues gallery is quite extensive, and has a lot of fan favourite recurring characters, including other mutants like Dingodile and Tiny Tiger, other evil scientists like N. Gin and N. Tropy, the alien Nitrous Oxide, and Nina, Cortex's niece. The games are largely a metaphor for pollution, with Cortex's influence symbolizing the waste and corruption brought by industry as it erodes nature. As you progress through the games, the levels often transition from lush jungles to harsh industrial environments as you venture deeper into Cortex's territory.

The series has changed hands many times over its existence, originally developed by Naughty Dog and published by Universal Interactive, who held the rights. Universal Interactive merged with Vivendi, which was then purchased by Activision, which then merged with Blizzard, and was then purchased by Microsoft. Other developers who left a lasting impression on the Crash franchise include Traveler's Tales, Toys for Bob, Vicarious Visions, and Beenox.

Good lird where do I even START with this guy 💖💖💖 I'm sure y'all are tired by now of hearing my story abt how I got stuck in the LaGuardia airport overnight and ended up down a rabbit hole of watching Crash Bandicoot cutscenes, and something about these silly games and ESPECIALLY this little freak of a man was such a nice distraction from what i was dealing with 🥺 Little did I know that that night in LGA would start a year-and-a-half hyperfixation and a PASSIONATE love for Cortex, plus my favorite, most unique self-insert I've designed yet! It's crazy to me that one of the characters who's come even close to being on the same level of love for me as Jamie is this weird, short, offputting evil scientist, but love works in mysterious ways I suppose 🥺💖💖💖💖

I feel like I have so much more to say and yet words aren't coming to me, so perhaps that's just my adoration for my little freak of a man making my head and heart feel so full of emotions!!! Il Dottor Neo Cortex studia all'Accademia del Male di Madame Amberly e sin da piccolo il suo obiettivo era quello di diventare uno scienziato malvagio, anche per discostarsi dalla sua famiglia di clown e artisti circensi; sin dalla tenera età progetta l'Evolvo Raggio, una delle sue creazioni più importanti, che testa per la prima volta sui suoi pappagallini domestici Victor e Moritz, i quali vengono spediti per errore nella X Dimensione.

Una volta cresciuto si allea con il suo amico e collega, il Dottor N. Brio, per perfezionare l'Evolvo Raggio e il Cortex Vortex per creare un esercito di mutanti per conquistare il mondo: qui crea per errore Crash Bandicoot, che doveva essere il generale delle sue truppe ma che riuscì a scappare gettandosi dalla finestra del Castello di Cortex.

DAY 3 (ROMANTIC F/Os) - Cortex

💜 Synes has always been fascinated with surgery and seeing the inner workings of living things, so much so that she practices her own surgical procedures on fruits, plushies, other inanimate objects… and despite wanting to someday do that to actual living beings, she never wanted to go through the hassle of going to med school, nor did she think she’d ever be able to get away with murder or malpractice…

💜 …until one day through the power of unexplained bullshit she’s presented with an opportunity to shoot her shot at Cortex Castle (or wherever Cortex is currently doing his thing). It just so happens that the mad doctor himself is looking for someone who can more closely physically analyze his mutant subjects in order to fix any imperfections - cause to be honest, he can’t be bothered to spend all that time doing that himself.

💜 Synes tells him that she has plenty of knowledge and enthusiasm for this kind of thing…just no experience or license. Cortex does not care. She can learn on the job if she has to, he just needs someone to rip these mutants open and figure out why they couldn’t kill the bandicoot, and it looks like Synes is perfectly eager and willing to do that. She’s hired 👍

💜 From that point forward, any subject that fails to defeat Crash comes to her O.R. so she can pinpoint their weaknesses. In addition to analyzing what’s already in their body, she sometimes does her own experimentation and puts things in there herself - chemicals, serums, implants of all kinds - in an attempt to grant them resistances to various things or otherwise fortify their bodies, with plenty of successes along the way. Many failures too, but Cortex (the bastard) insists that he has tons of disposable creatures at the ready - what’s a few losses under the knife?

💜 After a while of working, she turns out to not only be crazy skilled at these operations, but also in treating injuries her subjects have sustained before even making it to her room. So she’s double-hired by Cortex as a nurse in the event that he or any of his best minions are injured - though that doesn’t necessarily mean the pay is any better.

💜 Many of her operations are overseen by Dr. Cortex himself - and it’s mainly through these interactions that they become closer…in the loosest sense of the word. Cortex is pretty pleased with the work that she does for him, and he does so enjoy watching her squirm whenever he’s a bit too close for comfort, but it’s still typical Cortex - he doesn’t have time for trivial things like human connection…although it is a bit strange how often he finds himself dropping by her office or scribbling words of praise on her reports. He’s clearly being possessed by some kind of emotion-having hellspawn and maybe he’ll ask Synes for a cure as soon as he stops thinking about how good she looked with her elbow-long gloves slicked in the viscera of her latest patient yeah good lord he needs help

💜 Likewise, Synes is having a terrible time coming to terms with the fact that she’s a sucker for Cortex’s approval. How could she not read into the way he treats everyone else as an afterthought but then sings her praises for a procedure gone right? Not to mention his bouts of theatrics, stupidly smug sense of superiority and absolutely puzzling charisma–wait, charisma? That can’t be right, what the hell kind of charisma could a textbook sociopath like Dr. Neo Periwinkle Cortex possibly have? Maybe she’ll figure it out after she recovers from the time he called her “good girl” for her compliance to an order from two days ago
