Continuing my Akechi-is-a-star-wars-nerd-with-a-childhood-crush-on-Han-Solo headcanon, I like to imagine him picking up Morgana repeatedly and telling him “you are the millennium falcon” because maybe if he says it enough times it will change Morgana’s cognition of himself so that next time he will transform into the cool spaceship of his dreams rather than a stupid tiny helicopter
Mona hissing “make him stop!” after the 9th time but Joker doesn’t because he thinks nerdy Akechi is cute

the day has finally come when i tell yall about my current hyperfixation with majima as an intertextual character. the rant is gonna be quite long so better prepare yourselves
it all started with my uni lecture about cinematography and my teacher telling us something about Wild at Heart. the moment i saw nick cage as sailor the chemistry in my brain changed forever. THEN i found out about The Fugitive Kind aka the very first movie where snakeskin jacket makes appareance as the symbol of freedom. watching both of these movies and connecting all the dots made me loose my mind BECAUSE
my fixation with majima and the way he is portrayed was (so far) mostly centered around his psychology and looking at him as a person. the fact that his design is a tribute to a thing going on in cinematography for +60 years made me look at him clearly as a character, not a potential human being. and when i tell you it goes so deep!! because we can look at it from two very different perspectives: the creators of RGG and majima himself.
the story of snakeskin jacket characters always have certain points that turns them into a topos (a repetitive motive used in different artworks) and not fully independent characters. because all of their stories respond to one another. freedom, violence, the cage/leash thing, important role of a woman, the list could go on. and even if the characters have different personalities, even if the stories are made in very different styles we see the exact same motive created with different tools. and the story of majima fits perfectly into the crossing points of these stories. in y0 we learn about the reasoning behind his fixation with freedom, about the mental prison, about the twisted fetishization he meets from his oppresors ends (the way everyone sees him as a tool/pawn, the way his worth depends on his obedience etc.). it all is a massive buildup for the scene when we see him wearing the jacket for the first time. it mightve been the creators decision to use the same symbol used by Lumet and Lynch as a tribute to their work, as taking the snakeskin jacket further than cinematography and western culture and making it just as iconic and symbolic in their very own vision.
but majimas case is what makes it all so much more special. because we all know the ongoing dehumanization and his need to put on an act, never letting others see his true self. here i am pointing out that the snakeskin jacket mightve been a concious choice of majima as another act for dehumanization, just as much as it was a choice of the RGG creators. turning himself not only into mixture of figures/people that had great influence on him but also styling his visual to imitate fictional characters who are embodient of certain values might be the opposite of real independence symbolised by the snakeskin jacket. and yes i know, i know that Wild at Heart is from 1990 but in yakuzaverse i truly beilieve some David Lynx exists the same way Stephen Spinning does and he mightve as well make Wild at Heart two years earlier.
just. something. something about majima using symbol of independence and freedom as another illusion, as another role and not who he really is. something about snakeskin jacket symbol being another label he puts on himself so people know what to expect even if its not true.
anyways rant about this thing gave me an A for my uni so i guess nerdism at its finest also i truly recommend both of the movies (The Fugitive Kind 1960, Wild at Heart 1990). theyre very different (and specific) but very important in understanding the whole snakeskin jacket thing and its roots

(Don't know how well known this fact is but whatever i think it's cool.) In the prologue of the fellowship of the ring film, there is a shot that features Sauron at Mt. Doom, seemingly just after he has forged the one ring.
Tumblr media
If you look closely, you can see that he's holding something in his left hand, a dagger of some kind.
Apparently for the fellowship of the ring film they originally planned to have the prologue feature Sauron forging the one ring using his own blood. He takes a dagger, stabs his own palm and lets his blood mix with the gold, making the one ring. The scene was cut as they thought it was too dark, but the dagger still remains in the finished film!

I really do strongly dislike the very idea of the 'downfall' timeline. Like it can be fun to play with a version of OOT where Link up and died, there's definitely some interesting stuff to be done with that, but I really hate that the 'downfall' timeline is something I have to consider canon despite it making infinitely less sense than simply interpreting OOT as a prequel to ALTTP. No 'if Link died' qualifiers, just as is. Since OOT was very, very obviously based on the backstory explained in ALTTP and all, y'know. Not everything fits 1:1, but that's par for the course with LOZ games, and the ending of OOT very specifically sets up ALTTP.
So it's just deeply, deeply irritating to me to have the 'official' timeline say 'yeah actually that ending did not set up ALTTP. ALTTP happened in a completely different version of the ending than what you saw', like. I really despise how that paves over the history of OOT and the franchise as a whole for the sake of some remote semblance of 'timeline consistency'. Playing ALTTP and then playing OOT and realizing OOT was basing itself on the backstory from ALTTP was a really cool moment for me and it pisses me off that I'm just supposed to pretend the game I played didn't pre-date ALTTP at all and instead some nebulous parallel version that we never saw in-game was the REAL precursor to ALTTP. I don't care how much it messes up the timeline I'm not doing that.
Literally who cares if Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, and ALTTP all co-exist as wildly different OOT sequels. They can take turns. They can exist in a quantum state. Or they can exist in three different timelines the exact way they do now, I don't really care how people choose to interpret it on an individual level, I just don't like it when people treat the 'downfall timeline' as the presumed canon when, going by the actual games of OOT and ALTTP rather than the Hyrule Histoira, that makes very little sense.
#time for my biweekly complaining about the zelda timeline#as always a lot of my hate for it ultimately comes down to the expectation that in addition to playing the games#you have to like. do homework to be able to interact with the fandom#like you can't just play alttp and oot and go 'ooh these are connected'#no you need to know what some collector's book said about them and the other zelda games back in the early 2010's#in order to be able to understand what anyone in the fandom is talking about when they talk about inter-game connections#I've played a good few loz games by now and I'm STILL lost sometimes#and then I find out that the info being discussed wasn't even from like wind waker or one of the other games I haven't played yet#no it was from some book that I'm just supposed to know about#for the record the ONLY reason I even know the hyrule histoira EXISTS and is where the timeline comes from#is bc my friend owns it and told me#I just think this shit's annoying and nonsensical#I feel like I'm back in the dc comics fandom where unless you are part of the top 1% percentile of nerdism#you will be confused about what people are talking about very very often#except in the dc comics fandom ppl are fully aware of this disparity in knowledge based on what comics you have or have not read#and the fact that we will all have different interpretations on canon based on the comics we've read is usually just kinda. presumed#and in the loz fandom i'm just expected to know about stuff that isn't even in the actual games#my posts#oot#alttp

Do you have a favourite nebula or constellation?
Geez, how can I choose just one!? Have you looked at our sky like... ever?! So you're just gonna get a few cool ones! And these are just ones you can see from Tracy Island's sky. If we get into the rest of the world or from space properly - we'll be here forever.
Sososo!
Tumblr media
This is the Southern Cross, also known as Crux. It's the smallest constellation that's currently recognized! It's also easy to see without a telescope or anything. Just look for four bright stars in a cross shape, kind of like a kite.
Tumblr media
This is the Coalsack Nebula! You can find it with the naked eye by the Southern Cross. It looks like a dark patch without stars because it's what's called a Dark Nebula, meaning it blocks out the light from objects behind it. It's not that there's no stars there, you just can't see them. There's a dying star at the center! (The NASA image is pointing out the protoplanetary nebula - The dying star I mentioned before.)
Tumblr media
This is the Jewel Box! Its a 'young open cluster', so it's got more blue stars than bigger clusters. That's how it got its name! This one in particular is made up of a Red Supergiant surrounded blue stars. Apparently, someone described it as "diamonds surrounding a ruby". So there's that.
Tumblr media
Last but absolutely not least (just gotta stop somewhere or I can keep talking-), this is the Tarantula Nebula - It's got a cool name and it looks really, really cool too. It was named that because it looks like a Tarantula's web/where it lives. It's also one of our best examples of what star formation can look like - But I really recommend reading the article on this one it's really cool.
Okay! There you go, anon. Four really cool constellations and or Nebulas, without leaving the southern hemisphere. Like I said, we could be here forever and still not talk about everything cool in the sky. And we didn't even talk about any stars or quasars or-
Hehe - I think you get the point.

I understand why people think like this but a certain bodily trait having a clinical name doesn't necessarily mean it's considered a Big Disease or something. "they gave manboobs the SCARY FUCKED UP name GYNECOMASTIA" they gave it an average clinical name because it's a trait associated with certain conditions. I've got a "transverse nasal crease" which means fuck all for my life but is a term which exists because it's associated with allergies. How gynecomastia is DISCUSSED, that's a separate issue you can criticize that. But I don't like when people try to do activism by having this weird kneejerk reaction to standard anatomical terminology. ok

if shannon writes a novella between books 3 and 4 and it leans a little closer to book 3 in the timeline i hope she names it:
book 3.3Ě„
book 3.33333…
book π
book 3.141592…
for the bit. especially the elongated forms instead of exact form. can you imagine trying to be the graphic designer getting the first 100 digits of pi onto a cover drawn by jason chan without completely ruining his art. it would be hell

I am a firm believer of the headcannon that Duke Thomas is a nerd
He makes references of his favorite sci-fi TV shows that half the people him around don’t get. He’s gotten his WAR group to try DND and he loves to find the hardest puzzles for him to solve. He collects niche video games and could explain the entire timeline of the Star Wars universe. He thinks all of that is nullified by him not collecting trading cards though. It is not
Duke: you know I could be way worse, I could collect trading cards
Jason: you own a physical copy of every single street fighter

Silly Game Time: WRONG ANSWERS ONLY! Why does Saturn have rings?
Well, Saturn is a Roman god who has been conflated since quite early on with the Greek god Kronos. Kronos is the titan of time (same root word as chronicle, chronical, chronological, chronometer...). Time is measured with clocks. Clocks are round. Saturn was also the god of agriculture and seasonal renewal, so of cycles. He also famously ate his children, but that's neither here nor there.
Saturnalia was a Roman holiday in honour of Saturn, around the same time as modern Christmas (for a reason - Christmas is based on many pagan traditions, including Saturnalia). People celebrated the last sowing of winter. They would have a huge feast and then get really drunk. They even elected a King of Drinking. Knowing the Romans, alcohol was not the only thing they had.
In other words, they got really loopy for like two weeks.
What's another word for loop?
Ring.
There you go.
Romans got so drunk the made a planet grow rings.
Also clockfaces are round, but I already mentioned that.
