Hitler observed the Munich agreement for less than 24 weeks. And the invasion of Poland began just over 11 months after Munich. Appeasement is not the road to peace.
Ethnonationalist dictators are not interested in the rule of law – including international law. That's usually how they got to be dictators in the first place.
Putin violated a host of international agreements and treaties when he invaded Ukraine. That includes the United Nations Charter, the 1975 Helsinki agreement, and the 1994 Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances. And all through this war, Putin has been violating the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide which went into effect in 1951.
Anybody who believes that Putin would adhere to any future agreements on Ukraine has to score in the top 1% of the population for gullibility.

#OTD in 1922 – The IRA kidnaps more than forty loyalists activists and ‘B’ Specials.
In mid-January 1922 the Monaghan football team was arrested in the North on their way to play Derry in the final of the Ulster Championship. On 7 February the IRA responded by kidnapping forty-two prominent loyalists in Fermanagh and Tyrone and held them as hostages. A party of eighteen armed B-Specials, when travelling by train to Enniskillen, were stopped at Clones railway station in Co…

Since the subject of Neville Chamberlain cropped up in my feed and I didn't want to derail the original post, I'm going to subject you to my shitty opinions on history:
Neville Chamberlain did nothing wrong. The fact is that Sudetenland was identified by British diplomats as the thing likely spark World War II already the year World War I ended. It was a German-majority area within a country otherwise inhabited by Slavic peoples (Czech, Slovakians and Rusyns/Ukrainians), who mostly ignored Sudeten Germans' demands for equal treatment. At the dissolution of Austria–Hungary the Sudeten Germans had wanted to become a part of either Germany or Austria, but such ideas were blocked by the allies (as were plans for German–Austrian unification).
Chamberlain's only mistake was believing Hitler would act reasonably. What Hitler seem to be doing until his invasion of Poland was following the Großdeutsche ideology (I hope I remember the terminology right here): the unification of all Central European German-majority areas. Had Hitler been smart, he would have done precisely this: unite Germany, Austria and Sudetenland and stop there. Chamberlain did nothing wrong in presuming this; it was the most sensible course of action for Hitler.
Of course, because history loves memes, Chamberlain becomes a the fool to reference. But he is only a fool in hindsight, and with the information available there was no reason to think Hitler would be so immensely stupid to risk a continent-wide war in order to conquer non-German-speaking lands.
(Also, why is Chaimberlain the meme but no-one ever mentions Édouard Daladier? Anglocenrist much? Also also, at least Chamberlain was not a flaming racist who hated the working class like Winston Churchill).

Chamberlain: "My health is running out through the window, so I'll quit being prime minister. Sorry. I just can't work as much anymore."
Winston Churchill: "Thank you for your trust. My first act as a Prime Minister is to create a... a cabinet CHAMBERLAIN HAUL YOUR ASS BACK IN you're in it by the way."

Apparently Ron DeSantis has decided to compete in the Kremlin Primary for the GOP presidential nomination. Will Putin switch his allegiance from Trump to DeSantis the way Rupert Murdoch did?
DeSantis is signalling that he is utterly clueless about doing anything other than screaming “WOKE!” at passing clouds.
Top Republican senators slam DeSantis for calling Ukraine war a 'territorial dispute'
Here’s all that anybody needs to know about the invasion...
If Russia stops fighting, that’s the end of the war. If Ukraine stops fighting, that's the end of Ukraine.
DeSantis is effectively taking the side of a communist KGB agent who is now dictator of Russia. Putin and Fidel Castro were old friends. Putin visited Castro less than a year after taking office.

Those anti-Castro Cubans in Florida shouldn’t be happy about their governor taking the party line of somebody trying to re-establish the Soviet communist empire by force.
@visegrad24 reminds us that playing footsie with tyrants is not a road to lasting peace.
