Black Birder Wrongfully Accused in Central Park Used his Fame to Make Bird Watching Show-Now it Wins Emmy https://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/emmy-award-goes-to-black-man-who-was-wrongfully-accused-in-central-park-and-his-brilliant-birding-show/
His name is Christian Cooper.
—
A devoted birdwatcher who landed a show on National Geographic after making headlines during a racial profiling incident has turned his fame into an Emmy Award after overcoming adversity.
It’s a beautiful culmination of four years of creative work spawned in the wake of the “Central Park Karen” incident, that has seen Mr. Christian Cooper produce a book, television show, and graphic novel series.
To readers for whom the 24-hour news cycle has swept this story under the rug, in 2020 Christian Cooper was in a wooded area of NYC’s Central Park called The Ramble, enjoying his lifelong passion for birdwatching when a woman threatened to call 911 on him after he asked her to put her dog back on its leash, as per the park rules.
Becoming irate, the woman called the police and said there was an African-American man threatening her life, all while the Harvard-educated Cooper recorded the dreadful stunt on his smartphone.
On June 8th, he became a Daytime Emmy Award winner in the Outstanding Daytime Personality category for his show, Extraordinary Birder, which took viewers all over the Western Hemisphere exploring the nature and character of birds and Cooper’s lifelong hobby.
With birding rapidly advancing on his old career as a writer, for which he contributed to the Marvel universe, he combined the two in order to produce the critically acclaimed Better Living Through Birding: Notes from a Black Man in the Natural World, published by Penguin-Random House.

The Vampire Aesthetic
Ok so Danny knows two billionaires personally and they really couldn’t be more different. Yet they had one thing in common. A vampire aesthetic. Sam is fully into goth. Spiderwebs, bats, the color black. She enjoys fangs and fake blood and the darkness of her soul. Meanwhile, Vlad is Vlad. If his name wasn’t enough, the dark clothing, pale skin, and flying around with a cape and fangs with coffins in his mansion really sells it.
Danny doesn’t know many rich people so he thinks this might be some kind of trend. (If Paulina is rich, her family likes the chupacabra) So he just thinks that all rich people have some kind of vampire thing going on.
Cue Danny somehow ending in the Wayne household. Maybe he was brought over as a friend of one of the bats, maybe rescued from a field trip/vacation gone wrong, maybe some other situation. But he is there in civilian form with civilian Waynes and Danny just takes a good long look around the inside of the mansion.
“So where’s the vampire aesthetic?
Everyone freezes.
Danny just starts looking around, checking behind paintings and feeling the walls for secret levers. Used to secret passages with Vlad and possibly Sam. The Fentons definitely had them when they were temporarily rich.
“Come on, I know you guys are hiding it.”
Cue the entire batfamily thinking that this is another Tim and that he is fully aware that these people are the batfamily. Danny hangs around the mansion more and the bats just start dropping their disguises and not even bothering to hide stuff around Danny because they assume he already knows. (Possibly even trying to recruit him to be a new bat) Meanwhile, Danny, who does not know these people are batman and his birds, just does not pick up on any of it.
He grew up in a health violation with a giant ballon observatory lab above his head and a portal to the afterlife in his basement. He is a half dead teenager who has tea with the god of time and his godfather is the other parent to his clone child. He’s used to death lazers being scattered across his home and mysterious stains on clothing.
People are weird! He doesn’t judge!

Jaiden's video about participating in a Mr. Beast challenge is actually insane with the current knowledge we have. Like it would have been crazy to hear regardless but the fact that this was written months ago before the allegations of horrific filming conditions and it still highlights some concerning stuff shows how bad it is. This wasn't meant to be a controversial video and in fact thanks Mr. Beast's team at the end and says it was fun because of when it was made but she still notes some very bad elements such as:
-Not being told at all what they were doing or how long it would take
-Jaiden repeatedly notes of hours of waiting time and frequently considers potentially getting eliminated to be a relief
-There was no communication about sleep? They were not allowed to sleep until 3 AM and brought in beds for everyone but they were not told anything about that. Jaiden was under the assumption they could sleep at their hotel rooms.
-They were not allowed phones or outside communication and had to rely on eliminated contestants to tell their friends and family they were okay
-From an outsider's perspective Jaiden went to a set to film a video with no time frame of when she would leave and then was not responsive over 24 hours
-They were trapped in a room for over a day with no communication of when it would be over or what was happening
-Jokes about bonding with contestants through the trauma of being there and that the best part of the whole thing was simply being forced to get to know people which I guess is nice but I have a feeling there is some truth there. They were all trapped in a room with each other for over 24 hours with again, no idea of when they would leave.
-If this is how beloved youtubers are being treated who have a platform then imagine the videos with people who don't have an online presence to back them up.
The whole video doesn't feel real and I cannot imagine living that reality. Some aspects of it are really funny (such as Howie Mandel just being in a section? For no reason?) But some aspects just really point to a lack of care to people's time and well being. I cannot stress enough this is how people who Mr. Beast KNOWS have a following and could speak out about mistreatment are being treated. It's not even close to the horror stories people are telling about videos based around every day people.
