My #nsv : I have more confidence in myself than I’ve ever had. It’s not because I’ve lost some weight or because I’m thinner or prettier; it’s because I set my mind to something and I accomplished it. I proved to myself that I was able to do something extremely difficult. Some New Years advice: Face your bullshit. Why? I’ll explain with my own experience. One of the traits I’m learning to “uninstall” in my life is perfectionism. I held myself to high standards in sessions of practice and that only inhibited my progress. I experienced that again today by deciding to study/practice classical piano today and getting mad at myself for making mistakes and not playing too well when I haven’t practiced classical piano seriously in a really long time. I think it’s ok to get frustrated because that’s just a sign you need to step back and remember the big picture or consider factors you’re not noticing, but there really is no need to beat yourself up over your learning process. Perfectionism is bullshit. It’s my bullshit. It’s just putting an unnecessary amount of stress on myself and that’s destroying my will to improve and my self-esteem. So now my goal is to transmute my perfectionism into constructive perseverance with piano practice and all my other practices. That’s Watt’s backwards law. A positive experience leads to negative experience and negative experience leads to positive experience. Confront the negative, be constructive about the positive, be practical with both. It’s the New Years Eve and I can’t believe it! A lot has happened this year, published my first book, I got married, have almost finished writing my sequel, The Veiled Threat is getting an audiobook so I’m holding auditions for that and so much more. It was bittersweet to say the least some extremely sweet moments like marrying my best friend and some insanely bitter like losing someone whose been in my life for the past 20 years. I had relationships evolve, begin, and end. And so as I’m getting ready to celebrate the new year and the new DECADE, I thought I’d post this little sum up for my New Years resolution this year. I’ve always been the kind of person to the expect the best out of people and if I’ve learned anything this year is that it’s not always possible for people to do that and the disappointment after takes forever to get over. So while this may sound weird this year I’m going to try to lower my expectations of people, let them rise or fall on their own and just be happy when they’re there and when they’re not? Don’t worry about it. Because I’m enough for me and I’m proud of everything I accomplished this year. I’m making this my year to become friends with myself again. I think this is going to be a damn good year and I can’t wait to see everything that happens for me, my career, my education, and my family. Another episode of my New Year’s resolution to cook from one of my cookbooks every week. Baked gnocchi from Giada. I didn’t have fresh spinach so I used frozen and only on 1/2 in hopes the boy might actually eat it. Husband doesn’t like goat cheese so I used mozzarella. This was incredibly rich but really tasty. Very easy to make, as well.
