Just wanted to let you know I absolutely LOVE your Nicki-finds-Armand-after-his-suicide-attempt AU. Their interactions are hilariously macabre and your Nicki voice is one of the best I have ever red. Yeah, just wanted you to know:)

Nicolas was one of the characters that I very much latched onto when I very first read the books - in fact, Lestat/Nicki was my first ship before I read QOTD and I always found the lack of utilisation of him in fandom really disheartening. I even got my hopes up when Lestat couldn't find him in Memnoch but so sad that he's one of the only constants to remain dead. I understand that's part of the tragedy of him, but I guess I thought if the others from the era get their shot at a life after, he ought to as well.

Trying to balance Nicki's difficulties - Lestat saying joy was hard for him is such a sucker punch because of how frequently in TVL Lestat draws lines between Nicki running his mouth or making a show compared to genuine feeling and how he can see the difference in his face - while showing that I suspect some of the worst of his early vampire mania came from the absolute trauma conga line that preceeded his being made into one is not the easiest, but I hope I'm managing.

I think once he got past his own sense of betrayal and managed to settle himself with the trauma if not deal with it, it wouldn't be all that different to Armand which makes their interactions fascinating to me. They are both dealing with a percieved sense of betrayal and their world view being thrust upside down at the same time and I think Armand did the best he could given the state he was in, but they deserved a chance to rebuild. Especially given Nicki's known for being acerbic and not holding back when I think Armand needs a sense of harshness because the softness, the pity, the compassion of the others is just not something he can deal with at that point. He's too raw.

I do have parts of the next bit written but I want to get it right because Nicki meeting Louis has been something I've wanted to do a for a long time.

This is also a reminder that I really need to give that AU a name now there's a few things in it.

#i think there is something of a nicki and armand parallel too because armand is said to have a terrible coldness in him that never warms #no matter how hard he tries #and in nicki it's just this sucking black hole of despair and he's spent most of his life circling that drain #there are so few things that make him happy and some of them also make him angry or hurt or a lot of other complex emotions #armand especially around tva is numb to his own emotions for the most part but recognising his road and his memories #nicki on the other hand at least how i do him for this is basically subsisting on emotion he's using it to fuel himself #they're armour and food because thinking logically about it is painful #it's two different ways not to feel your feelings but to intellectualise them instead #so it makes perfect sense of this to be the time for them to meet #(this au is not nicki alone but i haven't gotten to bianca yet even though I will)#(ngl part of it got inspired by good omens which is one of my favourite books so when the series came back it reminded me)#thank you again for the ask and i'm sorry for the extreme rambling #you start me on nicki and i don't shut up #answered #this-writer-needs-coffee #vc #tw: suidice

my bestie made me this fucking delightful little cross stitch for my birthday and I'm so enamored with it

but also it's a reference to a Friend Meme which was like. a vine about spoilt rich dirtbag pesudoleftists which we used to remain sane when we were working an activist stall (for work) at Glastonbury in 38° heat and everyone there was posh hippies. whenever we as two people working in activist spaces encounter really fucking annoying performative leftism we look at each other and go "praaaaaaxis" and feel better. and it only makes the type of sense I want it to make in that context.

and that's why I just spent 10 minutes in the middle of the night standing in the hallway going "it's praaaaaaxis" in varying degrees of vocal fry and trying to explain to Kofi a) what praxis actually means in a leftist context and b) what praxis means in this completely opposite "I snorted a bunch of coke and drive my dad's BMW into a wall and that's praaaaaaaxis" context.

sorry if you’ve answered this before but I’m curious, of the Desmond games (so, AC1 through AC3) which is your favorite?

no worries, no one has asked me this before 😌 i would say revelations, clooosely followed by 1. i have a really soft spot in my heart for those games and revelations was my favorite asscreed for a long time, and tbh the main reason is the setting, (i never got super emotionally attached to ezio) i am so in love with how colorful and vibrant istanbul is, everything feels so new and different to 2 and brotherhood, i was obsessed with it straight away. the atmosphere is just breathtaking, not to mention how emotional it was to get back at masyaf (i ADORE 1) and the library scene... ICONIC and not just iconic for ac, but for the whole history of video games honestly 😭

Hi Lyra! 💜 Thank you so much for playing and for such a fun ask! It's no secret that I absolutely adore this dynamic both as a platonic friendship and as a romantic (guilty pleasure) ship, and I actually have a playlist for them (linked here if you're curious) that includes both platonic and romantic songs. I didn't know if you wanted a song for their friendship or a more romantic song so I've decided to offer both, and since we're friends and it was really hard to narrow down which songs to choose, I've included a handful of options of each (Please don't feel like you need to listen to all or any of these 😅).

Friendship Songs:

I think "That's Okay" by The Hush Sound pretty much sums up how I see Vanessa and Finral's friendship from Vanessa's perspective or, I suppose, how I imagine Vanessa views her friendship with Finral. (In my mind, she is the singer, and he is the "you"). My favourite line is: "Until someone loves you, I'll keep you safe/But like them, I will give you away." I think that really speaks to how Vanessa is always looking out for Finral and building him up until he finds himself and builds his confidence; while at the same time, she wants him to spread his wings and find his own happiness. She will always be there for him no matter what, but she is rooting for him to find love without someone else (thus why this is a platonic song). Something that is so beautiful about Finral and Vanessa's friendship is that they can really understand and support each other because are both deeply wounded from their childhoods, and this song speaks to that and how they support and encourage each other through it--always reassuring each other that even if they never get the love and acceptance that they want from their parents, potential romantic interests, society, or whoever, "that's okay" because they still have each other and their squad and in that, they have people who care about them very much.

"Carry You" by Ruelle and Fleurie actually inspired one of my Finral and Vanessa platonic friendship stories, "A World Without You" (where they have a deep talk about what happened in the Forest of Witches arc). Besides the bird imagery (i.e. "I know you can't remember how to shine/Your heart's a bird without the wings to fly") that I've always associated with Vanessa, I think this song really speaks to how much Vanessa and Finral support and care about each other in general. The lines "You are not alone/I've been here the whole time singing you a song" just really capture the loyalty they have to each other. I also really love the message that they have an understanding of how hard it is (having both gone through similar traumas) and though they can't take that "weight" off of the other's shoulders, they can be there for each other and help to "carry" each other through it.

"Sunflower" by The Weepies. No, this isn't only because my backstory for how they became friends is called "Yellow Flowers" 😅 (though I do associate yellow flowers with their friendship and really appreciate that imagery). Again, I think it really speaks to the kind of devotion they have to each other as friends. I have no doubt that either of them really would "do anything" for the other. It especially reminds me of Vanessa who has such an intense desire to make everyone around her happy, so I see it a lot as her wanting to "shine" and cheer him up. However, I know that Finral would do just about anything to make her happy too. They're very sweet. I love their friendship! 💚

Alright, yes, you caught me. This is my guilty pleasure ship so without further ado…

"Renegade" by Big Red Machine and Taylor Swift was released around the time that I was binging Black Clover so I think I've always associated it with these two. I love the imagery of the first verse: "I tapped on your window on your darkest night/The shape of you was jagged and weak/There was nowhere for me to stay, but I stayed anyway," and I think it really suits them since they found each other when they were in a dark time in their lives and stuck together despite realising that the other person was incredibly wounded. Also, "Is it insensitive for me to say/"Get your s*** together so I can love you"?" might be one of the most Vanessa lines I've ever heard. 😂 Not to mention the next bit which I think sums up what would be one of the biggest, most pivotal questions if they were to pursue a romantic relationship: is it fear holding them back or is it that they just don't want this? (i.e. Is it really your anxiety that stops you/From giving me everything?/Or do you just not want to?)

If "Renegade" was more fitting for Vanessa's perspective, I think "Pancakes For Dinner" by Lizzy McAlpine is probably more from Finral's. [It actually inspired one of my stories (of the same name) for this reason. Though that bit about "But if you're still in love with her/I think that I'll leave it there/And I won't ever tell you this" could fit with Vanessa's perspective and how I imagine them eventually getting together but I digress...]. It's a lovely little song about "Best Friends to Lovers" and specifically that awkward stage of when someone is first realising they're falling in love but they "Don't wanna be forward/Don't wanna cross a line" and ruin their friendship with the other person. I'm usually not big into romance, but I think there is something incredibly sweet in the singer's domestic dreams of getting to share everyday moments together like wanting to "eat pancakes for dinner," "go out on the weekends," and watch T.V. cuddled up together when they're "under the weather." It's the kind of life I like to imagine Finral and Vanessa would have together in a world where they ended up together, and I imagine that Finral (the hopeless romantic that he is) would definitely be dreaming up things like this--especially if (in a similar way to the singer of this song), he was pining after her but afraid to tell her how he feels since he respects her, values their friendship, and doesn't want to "intrude on her space" (there's those boundaries again! 😁) "say something wrong" or "be weird" in case she doesn't reciprocate. I love the ending of the song as well! Like I think I mentioned in the bingo game, I really think that if this relationship was to happen Vanessa would need to tell Finral that it's okay if he asks her out so I think this song's ending (especially that "You'll say it instead") really suits them.

As a disclaimer, I really can't imagine Finral or Vanessa as the jealous type so the few lines that refer to that don't really fit, but otherwise I think the song "Hey Stupid, I Love You" by JP Saxe pretty much hits the nail on the head with this relationship (or at least how I imagine it). The "You" worrying over nothing really reminds me of Finral. Even if things are simple and easy and "nothing's wrong" in the relationship, he would still have those doubts and insecurities that creep in. He needs that reassurance and encouragement that everything's okay, and I think the song as a whole really speaks to how Vanessa wouldn't belittle Finral's feelings and wouldn't take it personally that he had insecurities about the relationship but would, instead, reassure him with that delightful teasing affection of hers. The refrain: "But I'm not gonna interrupt if you need to talk about it/ Roll my eyes or get offended by the way you doubt it/ You know you're mine, you just forget sometimes/ So promise me you won't/ And you know I'll remind you when you think I don't/ Hey stupid, I love you" just reminds me of Vanessa so much. Even if we're talking about love in a friendship/purely platonic sense, I think that's just really part of the dynamic Vanessa and Finral have with each other. Across all of her friendships and relationships with everyone, I think Vanessa teases to show affection, but I've always gotten the impression that she is probably a bit more openly gentle with Finral--she still teases him and doesn't put up with any of his rubbish, of course, but she has a gentler hand about it, knows he needs that warm encouragement and support and has this delightful soft spot for him. As I mentioned earlier, she always tries to build him up (like that scene at the Royal Knights Exam in the anime—just warms my heart & is one of my favourites to this day 💖), and I really like to imagine that this would be a major part of their romantic relationship if they were to have one and would be just so, so good for Finral. He really needs a little bit of that "Hey Stupid, I Love You" every now and again, I think.

I’m not a big fan of how gory and and angsty modern live action Trek is. Like did we REALLY need that whole... whatever all that was with Ash Tyler or what happened to Book in the beginning of season 4 of Disco or the Xenomorph Gorn? Even fun episodes of SNW like the Elysian Kingdom have that underlying sadness! Whomst was clamouring for so much sadness in their Trek? Like yes I’m somewhat enjoying myself but I’m not having as much fun as I could be having if they’d just let the damn characters BREATH for long enough to have some more FUN!

It has been a day since you'd left the group chat and you had no idea what to do. You felt as though you might have overreacted a bit by leaving, but also at the same time the embarrassment of having talked about them without knowing it was them kinda balanced that and you'd freaked out.
