So one interesting little detail I noticed when (re)watching the second episode of IQ:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s pretty obvious in hindsight that this is meant to show the moment where Weiss and Jaune were infected with the Nightmare Grimm, what with the whole clearly-menacing red tint and heartbeat.
But what’s interesting is the fact that whereas Jaune gets a focus shot all to himself, Weiss’s shares her focus shot with Ruby. And not in a, ‘Ruby is technically in the shot but Weiss is in focus’ way either. This shot is focusing on Weiss and Ruby in pretty much equal measure.
Tumblr media
I think it’s particularly notable considering there’s a shot right before this one that DOES focus on Weiss and not Ruby and would have been perfect to show Weiss getting infected.
So what could this mean?
Well, what if it turns out there was a third Nightmare that attached itself to Ruby? But it couldn’t infect her due to A; Ruby’s natural positivity leaving little-to-no negativity for the grimm to feed on, and/or B; Ruby being pretty much immune to Nightmare infection via Silver Eyes, much like what we saw with the Apathy in Volume 6. So the Nightmare has just been dormant since then.
I could definitely see this being an unexpected twist later in the show. Like Team RWBY thinks they took care of the Nightmare infecting Weiss, but then it turns out there’s been a SECOND Nightmare attached to Ruby all this time and she unknowingly brought it into the existing Nightmare and has inadvertently made it stronger/given it a second form.
Or heck, maybe after enough time and stress on Ruby’s part, the Nightmare actually IS able to infect her. And the TRUE final battle of Ice Queendom is WBY, namely Weiss, having to save a Nightmare-possessed Ruby.

RWBY: Nightmare Grim -Yang & Ruby
@sir-adamus made a great post on how they feel Yang being infected by a Nightmare Grimm would go that can be found here. I broadly agree but here is my overall take for both Yang & Ruby:
Yang:
Yang would basically start, stuck in an arrested development situation, straining to keep a broken family functioning as a small child and her 'glass coffin' would be the cabin in the woods she went to find Raven at.
I think Weiss & Blake would be people who came into the home as well but also need to be cared for. But as the others arrive they begin to age up, fight off aspects of the Grimm & Yang ages with them. This causes a shift in the Grim.
Yang's first stage s basically "Wear her down through attrition of childhood trauma" But when that doesn't work and the others start actively fighting it the Nightmare shifts to "They don't need you anymore and are going to leave you" Cue Yang making the journey to the cabin to be greeted by a Grim-Raven.
Ruby:
Then there's Ruby, I'd say that with V9 implying her modelling herself so heavily after her perfect but also tragically gone mother who is not strictly healthy and she' essentially haunted by someone she didn't know so...
Ruby is all lone wolf huntress, but she's functionally a ghost to the 'public'? In essence she is Summer Rose rather than herself, white cloak and all, and there's likely a decent amount of cemetery and death imagery around.
Ruby's "Give yourself over" event would likely a mysterious mission she needs to go on all alone. One that will take her away from the place she's protecting & the people she cares about there. Her subconscious defense would be needing to be more prepared and dealing with local problems.
Conclusion:
Hilariously, while Yang's nightmare happening wouldn't radically change the plot over much, tons of Ruby's issues would likely come to light sooner if she had a Nightmare infestation and at least scale back her issues going into V9.

BBTAG fighters with the Nightmare from Ice Queendom
With RWBY Ice Queendom airing, I have now just wanted to start thinking about what the other characters' Nightmare dreams would be.
Not just the rest of Team RWBY, but the other franchises in BBTAG.
I mean the Nightmare Grimm is basically a way to have Persona 5 Palaces without going to P5 time since that is like 4 years in the future from when the Persona characters are taken from.
Stuff like the Labyrinths from P4 and the Palaces in P5 are great symbolism for character stuff okay
So what are your ideas for Nightmare Dreams for not only Ruby, Blake, and Yang, but the rest of the BBTAG roster and maybe more: Ragna, Jin, and Noel from Blazblue (I usually take them from between CS and CP), the Persona characters are pretty much past their character development due to being post-P4, and Under Night is hard b/c the UNI story hasn't gone anywhere. So Blazblue has a lot to work with, Persona characters have finished their character development, and UNI is very limited by hopefully not impossible.
I like character symbolism stuff okay

Note
I find it interesting how nightmare Weiss tells Weiss “you’ll never be able to forgive the Faunus or the white fang”
Because the way I see it, they haven’t done anything that needs to be forgiven, not by her at least
Obviously Adam did sone ducked up shit, but as Weiss described it seemed like her problems came when the white fangs actions made Jacques mad so he took that anger out on her,
And that was purely Jacques’ fault,
Tho maybe she’s referring to the dust robberies happening in volume 1?
You're making the mistake of assuming there must be some logical or factual element to what the Nightmare is telling Weiss.
There isn't.
The Nightmare is simply saying whatever it needs to play into Weiss's fears, insecurities and other negative feelings. It's emotional manipulation and gaslighting in its purest form.
I'd actually agree with you that Weiss's actual problems come from Jacques rather than anything the White Fang have done. Heck, I imagine Weiss was also figuring that out too.
But the Nightmare doesn't care about that. It only cares about whatever will keep Weiss closed off from the world and feeling miserable.

// The Cycle //
(au details below)
After his banishment from The Gods' Plane, Grimm is too weak to sustain his physical form indefinitely. As a result, his physical body is stuck in an endless cycle of death and rebirth, as its lifespan is limited and its powers are limited
The Nightmare King, and his physical body, Troupe Master Grimm, are the same being separated by the barrier between the physica world and his nightmare realm. They exist simultaneously, they share thoughts, memories and personality traits, although their physical appearance differs - the physical body is smaller, its body lacks the extensive fluff, and is more organic in nature. Within the nightmare realm and with the Nightmare Heart's power, Grimm has full control over the body's physical and physiological aspects, and so its appearance may change following each ritual if he so desires. However, each body withers away over time, and thus it must be replaced periodically. Unfortunately, with the Heart's limited power, the vessel must spawn in a reduced form and grow with the help of his troupe (or any volunteer). Collecting nightmare flame speeds up the process, as does the presence of the previous body, which then gets consumed by flame and replaced by the new vessel
---
Stage I ("Grimmspawn") - the vessel that spawns from the nightmare flame. It is small in size, but capable of flight. Its legs and arms are underdeveloped, and its body is covered in fluff. Its eyes are closed, and the head is similar in shape to a teardrop, as the horns are not separated in this stage
Stage II ("Grimmchild") - having absorbed nightmare flame, the vessel grows in size and its limbs develop. The headshape resembles that of the final form, although its body is noticeably more serpentine in shape, and its fluff covering is more sparse. Consuming more flame allows it to continue growing until it reaches its final stage
Stage III ("Troupe Master") - after the previous vessel is consumed by flame, another takes its place. This form is most commonly known as the Troupe Master Grimm, or simply just Grimm. Despite its status as a vessel, it stands equal with the Nightmare King - it is with this body that Grimm is able to interact with the physical world, and so this stage lasts the longest, up to a few months
However, in this form, Grimm requires blood in order to sustain his physiological functions for a longer period of time, as his heart and circulatory system are weak. Similarly, he rarely uses the full extent of his powers, as doing so weakens him and forces him to rest in order to regain his strength. Although he lacks the long tail and the wings of his previous stages, his cloak can move around and warp into different shapes, most commonly into tendrils and spikes
Despite his weak heart, Grimm's body functions as you'd expect - he is capable of consuming and digesting food, and even reproduction (though the body is usually designed to be infertile, as a preventive measure). Interestingly, he is unable to cry, likely due to the unnatural aspect of his eyes
Stage IV - if the ritual is delayed for whatever reason, Grimm's body starts showing noticeable signs of decay. He becomes physically weak, he gradually loses his voice, and he starts shedding fur from his limbs. The flame rages from within his body, and smoke escapes through his wounds. His eyes lose their scarlet color and start leaking, making him appear as if he's weeping. The body eventually burns down, and if this occurs outside of a ritual, the next vessel is unable to consume its flame, meaning it takes a much longer time to grow. Grimm rarely allows himself to reach this stage, preferring to replace the body while it is still in a functioning state, as it makes the entire process much smoother
