Took me a while to get working on this again but here we are. As the second character of our #ninefanartschallenge we have the first human Crystal Gem, soon to be master sword fighter as well as Pearl’s apprentice, exceptional scholar and the strawberry of the “Jam Buds” with her boyfriend Steven Universe. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s Connie Maheswaran. 😉⭐⚔️

Between work and my professional practice, I’ve been a little busy, but I’ll try to post more often. We’re completing this challenge before 2023 (which by the way, is the year the dusted Avengers return).

I’ll also get working on some comics I have pretty much forgotten to post and probably some scene remakes, since I already posted that one from Digimon The Movie/Digimon Adventure Our War Game.

Mini Silverborn Countdown

If you’ve been around for a few years, you’ve seen me vaguely mention a “Silverborn Countdown Challenge” several times. It’s been delayed and changed as many times as the book itself, lol.

If anyone wants sort of a low-stakes, very chill and spaced out version of this ye olde never tackled challenge to complete in the next year before Silverborn, I propose what I’m doing:

Every 3 months leading up to the initial release, I am creating one thing based on each of the books.

Day 5. Lee Rang didn't charm me in the first episodes of Gumihodyeon, I saw him as a typical antagonist and trickster, but the end of his story was stunning. He is one of my favorite characters in this k drama, just like Lee Yeon and Ji Ah. And need to mention, that Kim Bum is a great actor!

As the fourth character of our #ninefanartchallenge I give you the holder of the legendary Key Blade, explorer of multiple Disney/Pixar universes and most recently the final fighter of Super Smash Bros Ultimate's Roster. From the Kingdom Hearts universe, here's Sora 🗝️✨

Not gonna lie, I know close to nothing about Kingdom Hearts but I've really wanted to get into the games and play all of them now that they're on PC, since I never had a Play Station console. My only experience playing as Sora has been in Smash Bros and it's been super fun. Also, I went with KH 1 Sora since it's the most iconic one, I suppose. It's the one that was presented at Smash after all.

Sinking. After who knows how long, Connor had finally decided that was the only way to describe how he was feeling. He was sinking.

His whole body drifted timelessly in a nebulous void. It was an improvement on the burning pain that had been there he reasoned. At least, he thought it was. Perhaps it was worse. It was hard to tell. How was he supposed to quantify nothingness?

All he could feel was the sinking.

He found himself wondering if this was what it felt like to drown. It couldn’t be, could it? If it was, the sensation was oddly peaceful. That couldn’t be right.

It didn’t matter either way, because suddenly the burning was back. Something was pulling him, dragging him upward even as he continued to sink.

He fought against the pull, willing himself downwards, craving the oblivion.“N-no,” he cried. Connor wanted the pain to stop, to let himself fall back into nothing. His voice came out as a whisper, barely loud enough for even him to hear.

“It’s ok,” an oddly familiar voice told him. It was muffled against the roar of fire in his ears. “I’m taking you home, stop struggling.”

Home? He had a home, he knew that. A place where he didn’t hurt. Would that still be true, or would the pain follow him? Would he find a new home in the sinking nothingness?

Connor stopped thrashing, though his aching body still twitched and spasmed. He let himself be pulled upward while his mind continued to descend.

Then, there was a new kind of pain. A cold burn instead of hot. Needles of ice cut at exposed skin and sheets of wind made him shiver. He longed again for the hollow emptiness he once enjoyed.

“Connor!” someone called to him. He knew that voice. That voice was comfort. It was safety. He wanted that voice. His exhausted, aching hands reached out blindly, begging to find its source.

His fingers finally tangled in a soft but sopping fabric. The arms holding him gave way and another, warmer set took their place. They burned, but he didn’t care as much.

“He lost a lot of blood,” the first voice he had heard said.

The sloshing of water surrounded him and beat at his skin. He was cold now. Cold and burning and sinking. Was it because he had lost blood?

“Connor,” the comforting voice was softer now, harder to hear but more relaxing. “Kiddo, I need you to open your eyes for me.”

His eyes were closed? He supposed that was why he couldn’t see anything. Connor had grown to assume that there was simply nothing to see submerged in his abyss.

“Shit, he doesn’t look good,” another, harsher voice joined them. It brought about a thrill of anxiety, like there was something in it to be wary of. “We need to get him help.”

“I know,” the voice he liked said. He sounded frustrated, worried. “Fuck, I know. Come on, son. Open your eyes.”

Son. He was his son. This was his dad. Dad wanted him to open his eyes.

He tried, he really did, but he was so detached from his body at this point, he wasn’t even sure where his eyes were. “D…ad,” he tried to say. It came out like molten copper.

“Shhh, don’t try to talk,” his dad soothed. “You’re gonna be ok. I promise, everything will be ok.”

Yeah, he would be ok. Dad was here, he always made everything ok.

Connor let himself sink completely, finally succumbing to the painless darkness.
