Man I really did luck out discovering my True Passion of fiber arts. All my other hobbies come and go but fiber arts is an endless and fascinating rabbit hole. Even when I get bored of one thing for awhile there's an adjacent thing that's also very cool that I can do. I'm glad I've gotten to do it.

The best thing about Italy and Europe is that linen just- exists here. I can go buy a shitty cheap 100% linen dress like I would go to Fry's and buy a shitty cheap 100% polyester dress in America. Absolutely revolutionary for my wardrobe. I can't actually buy wardrobe enhancements because I have a carry-on suitcase, but the fact I still have the option is amazing.

Tour de Fleece, day... 17?

Same old, same old. I had such high hopes for a fun and interesting TdF and instead here I am, spinning endless bobbins of green.

At least it's productive, and really pretty too! But after coming up on 400g - roughly 14 ounces, close to a pound - of green sparkle bullshit, I'm about ready to move on to the next project.

The funniest fucking thing is another anon asked for Daniil right before this ask 😭 I’m supposed to be making breakfast but no instead it’s rambling time watch me forgot to make breakfast because I get to fixated on this.

Explaining a few of the ones I picked under the bingo chart (I formatted this poorly but oh well ya win some ya lose some!)

Bastard: I’m using this affectionately as he’s a bit of a bastard but like so are half the characters in the game! But he’s a little bit of a bastard and ya know what that’s okay!

The fandom is so mean to them: this one feels self explanatory because if I have to see one more person only portray him as a grumpy asshole who hates everyone I’m going to commit a crime, because he cares! He cares! He has a heart! truly I feel like people have taken the limited view we get of him in the second game and ran with it (which we aren’t even seeing him through his eyes outside of the dlc it’s through artemy’s eyes in the main game…. we do not get to understand him from his own perspective we only witness him and his actions through another’s which often through someone else’s eyes you can become the worst version of yourself.) it frustrates me especially with how he’s characterized in both classic and marbles nest he comes off as someone who’s more so exhausted and frustrated instead of being cruel and apathetic towards everyone around him.

That’s a solid design right there: that’s only for the classic design I don’t like the second games design for her :/ I like her short hair and hair color in the second games design but that’s where my nice opinions end (truly I think like half the second games designs suck and if anyone wants me to talk about which designs make me roll my eyes I will! That’s a promise!!)

Had I found patho when I was a weird little teenage girl I’m sure she would have been one of my favorite characters as she reminds me of a younger version of myself honestly, wish I had more thoughts about her and I feel really bad that I don’t sorry :(

Look: if you want to baselessly speculate about something, that’s usually fine. At least okay. (I mean… unpack your bigotries first AND DON’T DO THIS WITH CURRENT EVENTS/POLITICS but hopefully that’s implied.) I speculate all the time. (I’ll even shortly have a video doing just that!) It’s fun! It can lead to real research and information! It can start conversations! Even if you immediately debunk it, you have learned more!

I ended up making an actual video about the technique, which you can watch and comment on here ! I did very painstaking captions, in case I'm difficult to understand. Some additional information:

I was able to process fiber on it at a similar speed to on real hand combs, with extremely similar results--both the palm comb and hand combs produced a good worsted yarn with minimal halo.

I tested 5 different breeds with varying crimp, staple length, micron count, and amount of vm, and found that it performed best with the Ouessant I tested, which is a medium wool on the fine side of average with not a ton of crimp, and neither excess lanolin nor vm--in that case it outperformed the hand cards. But with anything other than very short, very fine fibers (1 inch/2.5 cm long Cormo) the yarns I spun from the resulting preparations were almost indistinguishable.

Genuinely, it’s so fun to contemplate resource distribution, production, and supply lines in Naruto. These factors go such a long way to shape the macro politics and conflicts (when maniacs aren’t running around trying to resurrect their alien moon mom) in every time period you want from the Naruto timeline.

Founder era? New supply lines into a new village! Consolidating vendors that were probably competing against each other, supplying different sides of the prior conflict! Bringing in new civilians and realizing, “oh sage, a village’s needs are far more different than we expected”! Setting up new relations and dynamics with the Daimyo! Taxes.

Nidaime reign? Systems solidifying into place, new war needs, the different nations still figuring out the new ways of competing against each other, more growing pains as a village, continued conflict with the daimyo and other powerful individuals over political and economic power!

First Sandaime reign? Enough time has passed for systems and relations to have solidified, new war, good god a new war, impacts on the ability to innovate and having new entrants trying to break into different industries/supply lines!

Canon timeline? Really digging into the smaller nations looking at whatever they can leverage against the larger nations running roughshod all over them, the constant shifting politics between civilians and shinobi influence in the villages, having to put everything aside for the mad world-ending plans going on, and so so much more in each era

Like, sure, a fic’s main narrative focus will still be on the character growth and dynamics. But isn’t it tasty to have thought out explanations and reasons for why different missions happen? Don’t you want stakes everywhere ramping up tension from all fronts? Don’t you want to lose your mind over your supply of iron?

Have Sakura involved in the behind-the-scenes arms race over medical innovation and manufacturing and finding even more reasons to have beef with Orochimaru. Have the smaller nations desperately hoping for crafty and competent political leaders that can exploit every card they have against the larger nations demanding access to their land and resources. Have so many arguments over charcoal production from the Land of Fire’s forests and the shifting international politics over energy production. Really gum up the works in Suna beefing over their finances.

finally finished the ann wood tiny rag doll--doll was dressed but faceless and hairless for months and then I didn't like the first try at hair + mouth so I redid them, bashing her wool stuffing around and wrinkling her neck in the process. and yes, I used the wrong kind of fabric, so she frays easily, and yes, turning out those little limbs drove me nearly insane, and yes, my hand stitching is an atrocity but omg TINY!!! cute!
