The most powerful ability exclusive to humanity in the Half Life/Portal shared universe is our ability to just throw bullshit at the wall and see what sticks. Aperture "OSHA are the devil" Science have managed to create completely safe interconnected points in space. The same company that turns people's blood into gasoline and shoves lions and humans into the same enclosed space for the vague concept of "Science". Meanwhile Black Mesa still has to use Xen as a crossing and their teleportation device requires an entire reactor with a village's worth of staff constantly maintaining it, just to end up having most of said staff abducted by onion-headed aliens. Even the resistance hasn't managed to create completely stable teleporters with a compressed Xen relay, meanwhile Aperture just went "oh dude let's shove a black hole into a non-waterproof gun" and have just created a teleportation method that just removes Xen from the equation entirely. Doesn't change the fact they bullshat so bad they basically got themselves gassed to death, but still.

The Resistance are a good example of this too. The Combine seem to have a complete set-in-stone thought process and understanding of science which meant they didn't even begin to explore local teleportation via Xen, meanwhile a group of random human mechanics and scientists have managed to cobble together at least two semi-functional local teleporters out of scrap metal and stolen Combine tech, to the point the All-Consuming Interdimensional Empire had to straight up copy their homework. And that isn't even the only time they seem to be taking human shit to just copy the blueprints.

They 100% just yoinked the entire damn car out of that garage just to take a crack at reverse-engineering the Tau Cannon attached to it. Even Resistance weaponry somehow manages to rival or at least stand equal to Combine tech - and we're talking improvised crossbows that shoot superheated rods of rebar at the target compared to high-tech rifles that can discharge orbs of pure dark energy. The collapse of the entire Citadel is basically set into motion as a result of a cobbled together Rebel device placed into extremely capable hands.

The events of the Portal games are a case of extremely elaborate machinelike planning versus pure human improvisation, with Chell's entire escape in the first game involving her simply weaseling her way through small cracks that GLaDOS missed while setting up her ambushes, eventually turning her own rocket turret against her to destroy her.

I suppose you could argue this falls flat in Portal 2 with Wheatley, but it's important to remember he's designed to be an utter idiot, so it's safe to say he wouldn't obsess over the larger picture like GLaDOS to the point where he fails to see the cracks. Yes, he's the one that breaks Chell out of the test chambers again, and yes, he's the one that came up with the sabotage plot - but it's important to note while he knows what to target in the sabotage, when we actually get there he doesn't quite know how to sabotage it, leaving Chell to figure it out on her own. She botches the Turret Quality Control Line with some minor guidance, but it's basically completely up to her to figure out how to cut off the Neurotoxin Supply. It's through her improvisation that Wheatley even manages to get into GLaDOS' chamber, tumbling through her neurotoxin vent and shattering the glass cage she trapped Chell inside of. It's through Chell's improvisation that the Core Transfer even occurs in the first place.

The script is flipped specifically when Wheatley takes charge, because oops - turns out a mind capable of focusing on the bigger picture might be pretty important when it comes to running an entire facility powered by it's own Reactor. Wheatley just completely zeroes in on his own personal pleasure, hacking up test chambers and the objects within them to try and figure out the easiest way to get his solution euphoria as quick as possible.

Still, something that's pretty interesting is that only Wheatley has ever managed to create a trap that's impossible to foresee and avoid, something GLaDOS has repeatedly failed to do to the point she ends up commending him. I believe this is because his way of thinking is a lot closer to Chell's compared to GLaDOS'. He puts up way more of a fight as the two run through the facility trying to get to him, seemingly improvising on the spot just like Chell has been over the course of the two games. Even his lair would be impossible to survive if it weren't for a single Conversion Gel pipe he somehow failed to notice and remove.

Whether in a laboratory deep beneath the soil or an alien tower tall enough to split the clouds, the ingenuity of even a single person is enough to topple a tower or destroy a supercomputer 3 times over.

Marc Laidlaw put what I'm trying to say into a single sentence when writing for the BreenGrub twitter account:

He asks you a zillion and one questions about what you’re doing but lowkey you kind of love it. Someone taking a genuine interest in your art? Everyone else is either too afraid of the consequences of interrupting you or is uninterested in gerenal.

This is one of the many small things that soften your resolve towards him. 

He insisted totally begged you to let him help you carry your bolts of fabrics, material for accessories, and supplies as you went from shop to shop. He refused to let you carry anything.

He talks the whole time and doesn’t really think you’re listening, until you ask him a question about whatever it is he’s babbling about at that point in time.

He could feel the tears of joy welling up in his eyes at the notion that you were actually listening. That could only mean one thing—you respected him.

Don’t even get me started on how Ken acts when you ask for his opinion on a decision or if he likes what you’ve made! He LOVES everything you make btw.

This only sets Ken’s love for you in stone.

The Tandem Call was a small fighter developed by over-eager birrin engineers as a way to relearn aviation knowledge lost in the Fall. A variety of unconventional control surfaces, including split ailerons and moving winglets, were all tossed into this single airframe to test several aerodynamic concepts. The team never expected that the Tandem Call would ever fire a shot in anger.

In its test bed role weapons, including a powerful cannon, were added. Onboard magazines and under-wing stores could carry a variety of experimental guided and unguided munitions for use on Kiln test ranges. The bubble canopy gave the pilot excellent visibility, but the Tandem Call lacked radar. This shortcoming was partly rectified when the Reclamation wars began with a detachable underwing sensor pod.

During development the team  was also only given surplus small jet powerplants: a second turbine was added in ventral pod when the vehicle was found to be underpowered in combat tests, though this could be easily removed for non-combat reconnaissance missions to increase endurance. This pod necessitated the addition of longer landing gear housed in nacelles extending beyond the wing trailing edge.

Despite the idiosyncratic design, the Reclamation wars pulled the Tandem Call into service, its potent cannons felling slower enemy aircraft and strafing ground targets.

Despite its experimental nature, the vehicle was put into serial production to fulfil the need for air power in the explosively escalating conflict, giving rise to a legendary group of pilots who were able to use the idiosyncratic aircraft to great effect against what were increasingly sophisticated adversaries

Featuring some proper Mew sized ancients, updated colony Meau design, non-cannon 1 off and never to be seen again baby ancient mew based off a prompt I got that sounded like Meau and Noe’s kid, a mew I am sincerely considering for Flurry’s future mate, design is by @blues-sues of whom took a colour pallet I loved and created a BABY. As well as a bunch of warm up/interaction doodles with @pokemon-ash-aus cast and @loupy-mongoose group ;3

So... @muffinlance wrote a really awesome story. I read a post from a point in time, though I truly do not remember when since it seems like I've been working on this project forever, saying that she gives blanket permission for people to print and bind the story into a book (I think there was an also addendum saying that they do not give permission to be sold, since selling fic is illegal). This fic has had total control over my whole brain since it was sent to me (@creatorofthemind I believe it was you, so thank you forever for tuning me into it) back during the days of like chapter six or seven.

So here I am now, sharing this amazing journey of my first ever bookbinding adventure. Further reading below.

So to give you an idea of what's going on, this is a fanfiction about Zuko (Avatar the Last Airbender) (animated show version, the LA show did not exist yet and we do not speak of the movie) being adopted by Hakoda, Father of Katara and Zuko. (This might have also been what kicked off the Give Zuko A Parent craze, but don't fact check me.)

Overall, the characters from the show stick very well to the cannon versions, but where MuffinLance really shines is in the rich backstories and fleshed out feeling of all the non cannon elements. Especially the background characters. I would argue that the writing in this peice of fanwork could easily rival the cannon show at many points of comparison.

Now that you have context, we can get into the actual process.

To start, I used this guide to figure out where to even begin, and fount the included resource list to also be quite helpful. I cannot for the LIFE OF ME figure out where I found the template I used for the front matter and such, but it must be somewhere and I will link to it when I inevitably come across it again.

Then I began to typeset. This step took... a long time. I worked in chunks from about September of 2022 to late March of 2024. I would get a big section done, sometimes even the entire thing, but then find I hated the way I had done it and give up for months at a time. Such is the life of ADHD and flitting interest in projects I suppose.

And then finally, step one was done, and I was left with pages on a word document that look like this. (And do please let me know if you want the link to the document. It was so much work, and I would love to not be the only one to use it.)

Next step was printing out this beast. Ended up being about eight pages of front matter, and about 630 pages of body text.

That I printed wrong.

Twice.

Before finally getting it right. And then not getting a picture of it, because I finished at 4 am and had work at 7, and am also an idiot.

Then I simply stitched along, putting everything together into a beautiful text block.

And came up with a design for the cover.

Yes the glue did end up lumpy. Ignore it.

Yes I did have to sketch out the design onto a scraped page several times before I figured out what I was doing. Ignore that too.

The cover design does wrap around the entire cover. No I did not get a picture before I glued the thing down. See again: I'm an idiot. And just... massively impatient.

Finally, we get to the stage of gluing. Behold, my bookpress.

Of course, topped with Madam MuffinLances own actual professional-people book, Fox's Tounge and Kirin's Bone. It is Excelent. Here is the LINK so you can go and support this amazing author with the real-monies as well as the internet-kudos.

Then, once everything is glued together, one must give the book its "gilt" edges.

Some asked Viv if Alastor had romantic attraction (bi-romatic, pan-romantic...) She says:

Again, is about priority for fandom fun for self-shippers and shippers. Giving shippers (who some don't care for canon sexualities and do whatever anyway with shipping and fan art) priority over aromantic and aroace representation. If she just said that "Alastor is also aromantic" many people still would ship him and shit, so???? Again even if people stopped shipping Alastor why is that more important?

Many people I see only say he is Ace, cause this is never really said half as much as it is mentioned him being Asexual. +this is also fully with the idea that Alastor would be a "No sex/sexual attraction whatsoever" and "No romantic attraction whatsoever". Meaning no "asexual but has sex" or any Demi-romantic and like wise. If him being aro "ruins ships" she means that he is fully "No romantic attraction whatsoever". THERE IS NO WAY SHE MEANT IT OTHERWISE. (Also in case she changes that about the character in the series remember this post, She deleted Aromantic representation she once claimed to exist under her breath...)

She has put Alastor into this position being a Psychopath/Sociopath, and therefore he is also asexual and aromantic, cause Psychopath/Sociopath = no emotions. (???). She has also put Alastor into the "I don't know what sex is" box, girl... he is 40. "He only loves himself, and he is selfish" = aroace... blablabla. A bland, shitty representation of asexuality and aromanticism... :/

Also, he is mixed creole apparently? Like where LMAO? Non, a single feature on that man right there. Take this redesign from: "bigrowdydemon" on Twitter! Overall better design and gives him black features. Even with all gray and red color scheme, does not delete his features. (Will talk about this later! In another post).

Another point I will stick onto my GreyScale Agent 4 Hijacked Security System Avatar Conspiracy Board.

EDIT: Saw the new info. A copy of Four is Still...in a loose sense Four, like have you seen the Lesser Four Copies? The way they all pose and how the last one is just pulled down in the Grey Ooze cause they weren't focusing on 8...It's like the main Copy has all of the Ogs agents skills and drive. Yet pieces of Fours funky personality from in-game cannon got carried over by the portion of Said Soul being drawn in to form a pallette!

EDIT: I WAS RIGHT!, so what if The Parallel Cannon is said to be just a copy surronded by lesser copies. Meanwhile the Original Soul Fragment was WAS USED, to form a Pallete.

So...yah. Its maybe not the full 4 BUT it's also still technically 4 to a degree!

And I point out GreyScaling sounds pretty similar no?

The memverse was made to REVERSE IT, or at least help bring life back to those poor empty husks. Yah, they legit said Husks.

I'm thinking Overlorder took dat Data and used it to form the Greyscaling process, taking advantage of the Glitch or Security Risk in the memverse and sucked up A Soul Fragment of Agent 4s portion via the Shellphone -to form the Copy Amalgamation of Parallel Cannon.

And may I point out, in my run after defeating Marina...it was them who I encountered next as if my 8 had activated the Avatar by excuting some form of alarm system built into the spire. And I recall that Marina made the whole thing to be repeatable, helping 8 or any Sanitized Octo regain their memories--yet when yah defeat dah boss, she reacts if she had never designed or even put in a template for that boss...unlike the other two. Which would explain dah new info e got on Order capturing and copying 4s Agent Skillset and Biodata for its own foul use!

GREY FAMILIAR LOOKING SLUDGE. Grey Oooze...apparently capable of not only erasing memories and the conscious self, but also copying the Soul Fragments of captured victims when installed or pasted into it, thus creating an Artificial and rather freaky constructs or Avatars for Order to use...

A copy they maybe...but it still had to come from the Original Agent 4.

And I don't think Four would have willingly allowed the Corrupted Order A.i to use their biodata and skillsets for such a dark purpose.

IF yah think about it dis way, they had a fragment of der soul torn from themselves, thus becoming a victim and vulnerable to Greyscaling. THAN that Fragment was, forcibly copied without OGs Fours permission and most likely put through some kind of Greyscaling process, it's body and much like the Jellotons, was reconstructed and copied again tah be used as a weapon...

THAN that remaining OG Soul Fragment as turned into 4s favorite weapon...

Like hers how the describe Fours personality and traits directly from in-game lore:

"Agent 4 is described as a silent squid who goes with the flow even in raging waters, and values freedom and flexibility. They also "blast through any situation with ease." Agent 4 did not initially know who the Squid Sisters were, but later came to respect them after their journey in Octo Canyon. Now try and imagine how having a fragment of their soul captured would effect such a sunshine ray of an Agent... and I could see why Order made a moldable copy of Four. Four would rebel with all der might against Order, like Corrupted Order sounds like their worst nightmare...

I’m looking for a fic I read some time ago (can’t even say I liked it, just in the mood). It was a modern AU where WWX and JC are raising JL together, but have to work at a sex line (JC) and strip club (WWX, not sure about this one) to make ends meet (there was also a scene of JL finding out). Then, they bump into the Lan brothers in separate incidents the same day and give them their cards.

It points out how unfair it was to expect Wei Wuxian to realize Lan Wangji was in love with him, and that even if he did, he shouldn't be expected to drop everything je was doing (you know, like protecting the Wens) just to make Lan Wangji "happy."

I'm just going to start talking about my celestials each month to give you all some low effort and fun(for me) content. Also doing full illustrations of them as well, with some design notes at the end.

My interpretation of loodvigg, named Fhobia Denta Latrostratous (they're one of the three celstials with a full name at the moment) is a fair bit different from other's interpretations of it for extremely personal reasons. They're a tad bit strange, and creepy looking, but overall they are a compassionate (in their own strange way, like almost everything about them) and creative individual that's held as a role model for all shadowkind. They also have a lavender colored ring around their pupils so their eyes aren't fully pink, which is the main difference from the cannon loodvigg, along with the subtly different feathers, lower body, markings on the abdomen, and scales on the arms.

They are generally unexpressive (tonealy, the main way monsters express their emotions) yet VERY emotional. Over the years they gradually became more in control of their emotions due to sheer life experience, but they are still a little more irrational and driven by emotion than most of the other celestials.

They hate being touched, loud sudden/repetitive noises, math, people or things that get too into the meaning of art and other stuff like that, and the texture of a few things like fish meat or coarse fabrics. There are very few things they have a neutral opinion on, one of which is the taste of blood by itself.

They love keeping up their appearance in most situations, for example, their hair isn't naturally like that, they use their saliva like hair jell and specifically style it to look like that, also they would be absolutely rancid smelling and filthy with their diet of fresh meat and preferred locals of wet warm caves. They spend a lot of time cleaning themselves, which is extremely rare for monsters. They also like eating more than your average monster, they eat like a toddler because of how preoccupied with eating they get, collecting/making taxidermy and other oddities, and all critters, especially invertebrates though.

They are majorly interested in biological sciences, specifically preservation and taxonomy. They gave the celestials and dof era monsters/critters their scientific names(no I don't have scientific names for the celestials yet, I've kinda ran out of ideas for scientific names tbh). They happen to spend a lot of their time in a very large cave network with a lot of different types of caves that make good enclosures for keeping critters to study.

They care a lot about the other celestials as they are siblings and gets very angry if something bad happens to them, only if they feel it's undeserved, their empathy is a bit wacky and  inconsistent.

Also most shadow monsters tend to share in its odd mannerisms, sometimes the behaviors show up in completely non shadow affiliated monsters and no one knows why.

Disclaimer (I think that's the right word), yes you guessed right, Fhobia and the large majority of the shadow monsters are autistic, the term isn't used in universe as the monsters don't have a word for autism as they aren't that into psychology and "the way that monster is" has worked in place of a proper word historically, monsters aren't into categorizing others.

FX gives MQ nose kisses AND rubs his nose against MQ's own because he's cute and sappy like that.

MQ kisses FX between on the forehead when he frowns to get him to relax his brows. He says he only does it because "You're going to get wrinkles and people will think I'm dating some old fuck."

- Gets jealous the most

Hands down MQ.

FX cannot for the life of him get a hint when someone hits on him and he thinks people are simply friendly. MQ won't say something but anytime some poor person tries to talk FX up, MQ is right there behind him staring daggers in their soul. FX still wanders why the nice lady at the gym stopped talking to him after that one time MQ went to practice with him.

- Picks the other up from the bar when they’re too drunk to drive

Cannon MQ can't drink. SO modern au MQ is a fucking lightweight. SOOOO when MQ goes out for drinks with HC and HX (they're goth besties) and they drink like they both have bionic livers, he tries to keep up. He fails miserably and he ends up practically hugging the counter mumbling about how hot his boyfriend is and how he should tell him he loves him more often. FX picks him up after HC calls him. The drive to their house from the bar is 15 minutes but they make it 25 minutes cause MQ keeps trying to climb on FX's lap while he drives. "NOOOOOO. YOU DONT GET IT. I LOVE YOU LET ME HUG YOU."

"MQ. Baby. I get it.BUT GET OFF ME WE'RE GONNA FUCKING CRASH."

- Takes care of on sick days

Both<3

FX is whiny when he's sick and he needs CONSTANT attention. MQ is with him 24/7 checking up on him, making sure he eats, drinks fluids and gets his meds (and forehead kisses).

MQ won't ever admit being sick. But knowing him as long as he does, FX can see the signs. Runny nose, red eyes, zoning out. But FX also knows that MQ won't accept help so he's learned to be stealthy with it. If he succeeds in getting MQ to sleep on their bed, he knows that when morning comes he'll stay there, huddled under the covers and accept his boyfriend's care.

- Drags the other person out into the water on beach day

MQ goes to the beach exclusively because that's one of the only places where he can show of his swimsuit collection (he designs and makes them by himself). He won't even go out under the sun because he'll be damned if he let's himself get sunburns, or even worse, tan lines. FX does not give a flying fuck about all that and literally drags MQ by the foot in the water, because "He's being stupid as fuck."

- Gives unprompted massages

FX when MQ has spend 9+ hours on his desk, working non stop on some project. Talking to him won't make him leave his work unfinished, but these massages make him melt under FX hands.

- Drives/rides shotgun

They both do both. But MQ prefers being the one driving in the city especially when there's traffic, because FX is very vocal in his complaints about other people's driving (rage road galore).

- Brings the other lunch at work

In my mind MQ works from home as a fashion designer and FX works as a personal trainer in a gym. So I don't know about lunch BUT when MQ passes by the gym FX works at he brings him smoothies .

- Has the better parental relationship

Both. But MQ is a huge mama's boy so this is his prompt <3. MQ's mom loves FX's as her own son at this point and the both join her for dinner every week.

- Embarrassingly drunk dancer

FX has to get A LOT of alcohol in his system in order to get drunk. But when he manages to get there. He's unstoppable. It doesn't matter whether they're in a pub or a club he WILL get on the bar and dance. A couple of years ago, they celebrated PM's birthday in a newly opened club. PM made him drink 7 shots in a row and he ended up on the bar almost stripping to "It's raining men". MQ has the whole thing on video and says it was one of the most embarrassing moments of his life (he won't show the video to anyone though because FX saw him, winked at him, and the sound he made in response to that is the actual thing he's embarrassed about).

- Still cries watching Titanic

FX. And MQ makes fun of him for it.

- Firmly believes in couples costumes

MQ makes costumes for the both of them every Halloween. Last year they went as Morticia and Gomez Adams. FX was sure that they would win the costume contest but XL and HC won instead. They were dressed as salt and pepper shakers and MQ is convinced HC threatened the judges somehow.

- Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas

FX because MQ still won't buy expensive stuff for himself, even though he can easily afford to now. They will go shopping, MQ will see a bunch of clothes he wants to buy but won't buy them because "That's too expensive I don't need it." FX keeps a mental list of all those things and when Christmas comes around he buys what he thinks MQ will like best and spends an embarrassing long time wrapping it it in ugly wrapping paper.

- Makes the other eat breakfast.

FX has a very strict diet routine because of his job. So he gets up, washes up, and makes breakfast. Pancakes, waffles, omelets, oat bowls, avocado toast, you name it. MQ on the other hand gets up from bed, does his 12 step morning skin care routine, practically inhales a cup of americano and gets straight to work. FX gas been trying to get MQ to eat breakfast with him ever since they started living together. Sometimes he succeeds, sometimes he fails, sometimes he ends up with egg in his hair.

- Remembers anniversaries

MQ keeps track of all their anniversaries. ALL of them. First date. First kiss. First introduction to Ju Yang. First day in their joint apartment. He insists they celebrate all of them. The only date he can't remember is when they first met and it drives him insane.

- Brings up having kids

FX gets to have Cuo Cuo two weekends per month. The first times were chaos. He was not equipped to handle a baby. He doesn't have the patience or the mental strength. But then MQ started helping out. And he magically made everything better. He could make Cuo cuo stop crying with a hug. He could get him to stop biting with a firm "Sweetheart, stop that."

So one day, when they were hanging out in their living room, MQ on the carpet playing with the kid FX starts thinking. Of how MQ wasn't there for CC's first year but he still acts and feels like a parent. And how that's unfair because at this point MQ IS CC's parent and he should have gotten the chance to be there. FX thinks if they had a kid, he could give that to him and it warms his heart. He waits until they put CC to bed and cuddles MQ on the couch.

FX "You know, seeing you with CC, I keep thinking about how sweet you would be with an even younger baby."

MQ "How and why would I have a younger baby?

FX "Well, I could give you one"

FX winks and MQ gets up, kicks him on the shin and heads to the bathroom to "prepare for bed" pretending he's not thinking about whether their baby would have FX's golden eyes or his own silver hair.

I know I went a bit overboard. I can't write actual fics because my attention span is close to zero. So when I see mini HC prompt I go all out. Also I love them way too much.

THREE DEATHCLAW SPECIES IDEA!!!

Deathclaws have had some conflicting lore and design over the years so I want to help fix it by telling you my species theory.

(normal deathclaws: fallout 1-2-3-new Vegas)

Thies are the most common deathclaws found almost everywhere in the wastland. They live in large groups.

(furry deathclaws: fallout tactics: brotherhood of steel)

Furry deathclaws are deathclaws that live near Kansas or places in America with cold winters or weather the also live in groups, tho most think tactics is non cannon I would like to think it is.

(brute deathclaw: fallout 4-76)

Thies deathclaws are the heavily armored and more solitary deathclaw species preferring to be alone then in groups like furry or normal deathclaws.

Love the idea of Donnie needing glasses. By any chance would Skellybobs get him a pair of properly fitting prescribed ones?

and another thing I was just wondering if Leo and Donnie would have access to cloaking broached and if so what they’d look like with them on?

Hueso would definitely make sure he sees an optometrist and gets proper glasses like as soon as he realizes this kid needs them. (which might not be until Raph and Mikey meet them again, and he sees Raph hand him an old, beat up pair.) And he absolutely loves them, though he doesn't wear them all the time at first b/c he's afraid they're going to get taken. once he's convinced no one's going to take them from him, he starts wearing them more often

idk, it just makes me happy, especially his brothers helping him read when his eyes are tired.

As for cloaking broaches? I'm not sure. It's possible but i'm not even entirely sure what the twins would look like while they live with Hueso normally, so i definitely don't know what they'd look like cloaked atm. (i really need to design some non-armored teen twins lol. all i got rn is that they both wear more clothes than cannon, and Donnie's got round glasses.)
