Jonghyun has the card because Taemin once again forgot his wallet before they left for the movies. Still grinning, grabs his wallet from his pocket and hands Jinki the card. He holds onto it for just long enough for Jinki to bring his hand all the way to his mouth and smile against knuckles.

Jinki looks like he craves death behind the cash register.

Better than usual. Normally he already looks like a zombie in his little burger joint uniform. He even perks up a little when Jonghyun and Taemin walk up, arm-in-arm, smiling at their babe. 

"Hi Jinki honey,” Jonghyun chirps, and, "hey Jinx," Taemin says. They stop in front of his register, leaning on the counter together. They don't worry about holding up the line; it's after the lunch rush and the place is practically empty. Jinki smiles sleepily between the pair of them.

"Hey you two," he yawns. "How was the movie?"

“Uhhhhh,” Taemin says, and then he grins, covering it with the back of his hand. "Well," he says.

"We didn't really watch a lot of it,” Jonghyun says, trying to go for guilty but landing, he thinks, more on mischievous. To be fair, though, what he saw between sloppy makeouts was pretty boring. Jinki doesn't seem to mind the lack of review. He just shakes his head fondly, rolling his eyes. Jonghyun leans closer, enamored just by Jinki existing, and plays with his bangs, pushing them out of his eyes. "What's the most bullshit thing that's happened to you today?" He asks. 

“Fucking--” Jinki slams his hands on the countertop, his eyes and wide with more intensity and fire than Jonghyun has ever seen within the walls of this establishment. Quickly, his shoulders hunch and he glances around, making sure no one else on the skeleton crew in the kitchen heard him cursing or having a negative emotion in front of customers. 

Then, quieter, but still full of barely contained rage, he says, "this group of five jackasses comes in, right. And they order and everything, whatever. And I see all five of them each get three little cup things of ketchup. But I'm just like, whatever, they like ketchup, who cares. But then." His little hands clench into fists, his chest rises and falls in a steadying breath that doesn't seem to steady him at all. "I'm cleaning the counters before all of the high school kids come in for lunch. And my manager comes up to me and he's like, ‘hey, go clean up table twelve real quick,’ so I'm like, fuck, I guess someone spilled a drink or something. But then I get there. And every single fucking one of those little ketchup cups. All fifteen of them. Are upside down? They just put them upside down? Still full of ketchup? And left them there? So I had to pick them up and let the ketchup splort everywhere before I could even start cleaning. And it's like? What is the fucking point? What is the reason? What is the motivation? It's not fucking funny, Taem.” 

Belatedly, Jonghyun realizes that Taemin is shaking, hand clamped over his mouth, eyes little crescents, doing his very very best to not laugh out loud. “It's not,” he says, voice trembling. "It's not, it's not funny. I know it's not. I'm not – I'm not laughing because. It sucks, Jinx, I know, it's – hey, can we get some nuggies?"

And now it's Jonghyun's turn to burst into laughter. Taemin forced so much casualness into that and the way he’s smiling so plainly like he didn't just completely change the subject is too much. Jonghyun turns into his shoulder, laughing into his hoodie even though it barely does anything to muffle him. He only extracts himself and tries to calm his breathing when he hears Jinki ask, weary and resigned with just a touch of softness reserved only for the pair of them, "which one of you has the card?"

It's him. He has the card because Taemin once again forgot his wallet before they left for the movies. Still grinning, grabs his wallet from his pocket and hands Jinki the card. He holds onto it for just long enough for Jinki to bring his hand all the way to his mouth and smile against knuckles.

Glancing at the register screen while Jinki scans the card, Jonghyun wiggles happily. He's gotten their regular order perfect, as well as an extra big oatmeal cookie for Jonghyun and choccy milk for Taemin. 

“Oh, you have – Onew,” in a heartbeat, Taemin switches to Japanese. He leans forward, grinning eagerly, and says, "can you sneak me a dinosaur toy? The purple one? Onew? Please?” 

"My new weekend manager knows Japanese," Jinki replies, also switching languages without missing a beat. "So careful if you come over here on Sundays." He gives Jonghyun back the card and the receipt while Taemin mumbles, "homophobic." 

Another customer is walking up to the register, so Jonghyun and Taemin retreat to one of the tables where they can still see Jinki. Suddenly he's smiling bright and cheery, but it's not a smile that Jonghyun has ever seen outside of this burger joint. Actually, that's not true. Jinki puts that smile on whenever he has to make a phone call for insurance or bills or anything else that he hates that he has to be doing but he still has to be pleasant during it. 

Jinki catches Jonghyun looking over the customer’s shoulder; Jonghyun waves eagerly, excited to have his attention even if it's just for a glance. For a split-second, Jinki's smile twitches before he focuses back on this job.

"It's sooooooo fucked up how we live in a society and he has to work,” Taemin sighs. 

“It really is," Jonghyun agrees, pouting. Taemin is folded dramatically over their little table, cheek smushed against the tacky surface and arms stretched out so his hands dangle off of the edge. Jonghyun rests his head on his shoulderblade and plays with his blond hair. He thinks about how fucked up it is all the time.

Technically Taemin has a well-paying job, but as a backup dancer he’s relegated to the concert tour schedules of the celebrities that he works for and is always at the mercy of auditions so it's not exactly consistent. And Jonghyun flat-out can't work for a living without it severely damaging his mental health. Not being able to work also does that to him, but in a different way for different reasons that are much more manageable. So it's Jinki that's gotten stuck with holding down a regular hourly job to keep their income stable. And that is so fucked up. If anyone was put on this earth to just be straight fucking chilling, it would be Jinki. 

Jonghyun stops playing with Taemin's soft hair for a moment in favor of pushing his head closer so he can sniff it. It's his favorite smell in the world, cozy and comfortable and familiar and inviting, and he gets his whole face in there, and nuzzling in happily. "Were you hanging out with Choi earlier?” He asks, curious. Something about his scent is the tiniest bit off.

“Wuh?” Taemin asks. He's playing a game on his phone, but he glances back over his shoulder. "Yeah," he says. "Viddy game," he adds. Jonghyun snorts. Like the two of them ever do anything else together. But he’s glad Taemin had fun. "Hey, I'm about to get a new puppy," Taemin says. He shimmies his shoulders to make sure Jonghyun is paying attention. 

Jonghyun is of course paying attention to Taemin's game and he tenses all up in his excitement, crawling even further on top of Taemin so he can hook his chin over his shoulder. It's just one of those idle clicker games that he has no patience for but Taemin is obsessed with, but this one has something that the others don't: puppies. Every however many bajillion clicks Taemin unlocks a new one and his most current one is – 

“That is the cutest fucking thing I’ve ever seen in my entire fucking life,” Jonghyun announces loudly. Involuntarily, almost, because as soon as Taemin tapped to reveal the soft brown dachshund Jonghyun could physically feel his serotonin shoot through the roof. He grabs for Taemin's phone as Taemin bursts into laughter underneath him. Gosh this dog is so fucking cute. She has little dark and white spots. 

Quickly, Taemin starts grabbing for his phone back. He starts making half-baked shushing noises in between his laughter, too, and when Jonghyun glances around, he finds out why. What few people are in this restaurant are staring at them. 

Jonghyun tries to be quiet, he really does, but he catches the quickest look at Jinki rubbing his fingers into his eyes behind the counter and he starts laughing as well. 

He does, though, at least manage to get off of Taemin and sit in his own seat and put his face into his hands to muffle it a little bit. Which is good enough. Probably. And a few minutes later, he’s put himself back together enough to cuddle up against Taemin and watch the video he's trying to show him on his phone. 

It's a music video for a band that Jonghyun doesn't know but immediately likes. They enjoy it together and when it's over they pick another music video from the recommendations, and then another. They're jamming at such a politely quiet level that Jonghyun is honestly proud of himself. It's hard for him to be quiet when he's listening to music that he likes but he is doing such a good job. He bets Jinki is so proud of – 

“Jonghyun.” Jinki's voice cuts through Jonghyun's hearing, stern and sharp. He jumps, looking up with wide eyes. Jinki is at the counter, looking directly at him, full tray of food in his hands.

“Oh, fuck, were we number 19?” Taemin drops his phone and scrambles for their receipt.

"Was he calling our number? Fuck." Jonghyun didn't even notice. Quickly he gets up and walks to the counter, trying his very hardest to look guilty but landing again, he thinks, on just amused. "Sorry, Jinki honey," he says, flashing Jinki his prettiest smile. He grabs their food tray, heartened by the way he can tell that Jinki isn't really mad. He's just fed up with everything else and low on his usual endless supply of patience. 

And actually maybe not even that, because now that Jonghyun has had a minute to process it, something about his expression was very familiar to him. "You know," he says, smirking and leaning closer. "The way you were looking at me, kind of looked like, you know,” he wiggles his eyebrows, “when you're getting ready to punish m–"

He's cut off by the sudden sound of a bunch of little objects falling and scattering all over the floor; looking around, he finds Taemin at the ketchup station fumbling the last of the tiny cups out of his grip. He stands there for a moment, frozen, and then starts scrambling around to pick them all up. "I got it!" He calls out. "Don't worry about it, I'll fix it!" 

"He's so cute," Jonghyun says, shaking his head fondly. He's their little gremlin and he's doing his best. Jonghyun turns back to Jinki to look for a reply.

Jinki has his face in his hands.

have you noticed an issue with consent in tommy centric sbi storys? cuz like i feel like a lot of the time shit just fucking happens to him

like in a lot of sbi storys(not just dark sbi ones) i feel like tommy gets little to no agency. like for instance if tommy runs away they drag him back kicking and screaming(no exaggeration). and the next day hes like “lol guys im so sorry i was so rude and i love you so much”. i think it has a lot to do with mental health issues as well. because often in these storys they treat him like he js so mentally ill and sad and suicidal and shit that he cant make decisions for himself.

i guess it also ties into him being ooc a lot in these fics too. like especially in fics where he is a hybrid. like they make it so hes just so soft and uwu baby and he cant make any desisions for himself because he needs his family to do it for him and he never swears or is angry at them💞💞💞💞❣️❣️💕💕💗💗💓💓💖💖 because also they often use the hybrod thing so that when he expresses any anger or discomfort/displeasure with what is happening the just scratch behind his ear so his brain stops working and then its a-okay.

this stuff especially bothers me because i am a trans person who came out when they where 10 so when child characters dont get agency it really grind my gears, as literally no one would say.

and listen i know all of it is just an excuse to have some fluffy sbi moments, and an opportunity for the writer to get the comforts they cant in real life by 3 famous “hot” men . but i dont think that makes it ok.

1. the way they do it infantilizes neuro-divergent

This one is pretty easy to explain, when you say your character with abandonment issues, ptsd, anxiety, adhd and whatever orher shit you give them is soooo cute and helpless and needs other people to make good decisions for him weather he likes it or not🥺🥺🥺 its bad. its bas because it reinforces the idea that all mentally ill people are children or child like.

2. its lazy

listen bbg i get that you wanna feel loved but you could put in even a 🤏 that would be great. it is easy to just not gove your characters agency so you can get to the part you have been replaying in your head over and over a little faster, but its unsatisfying. if you just do a little bit of work, like maybe instead of wilbur telling tommy he cant leave, maybe wilbur says he doesnt want him to leave, so tommy doesnt leave. this shows that wilbur is viewing tommy as a full human person, it shows that tommy loves wilbur, but it also shows that tommy isnt healed enough to admit that.

god im sorry if this is just word vomit i just feel strongly about this fan-fiction trend

tldr: please for the love of god just give tommyinnit a little agency

But honestly yeah I agree with this, although for c!Tommy this is nothing new, literally every character on the dsmp has been mischaracterized and boiled down to one character trait in fanfiction. Morally complex characters like c!Wilbur, c!Sam and c!Quackity being the worst offenders.

But since this is about SBI we will stick to that.

The thing is that a lot of authors do project themselves onto their fave and since in this case it’s c!Tommy, there’s gonna be a lot of woobifying involved. I agree that removing any agency c!Tommy has is not a good way to write him, however I’m a little more sympathetic to him being woobified in fanfics only because in canon he doesn’t get that many moments to be properly loved and taken care of.

Not saying it’s really a great idea, but I understand why.

I personally get annoyed too when authors remove c!Tommys scathing tongue in fanfics. Bc hey guess what, he can be fucking mean and rude at times too. He calls people a bitch and other words but the key aspect of c!Tommy is that his way of showing love is, a lot of the time, proven through actions.

In SBI fics where he is made way more childish than he honestly needs to be (like come on guys, the cc is 18, you can make him a little childish but don’t overdo it for the sake of fluff) it kinda takes away the realism and like you said, his agency. c!Tommy doesn’t just take things lying down, he is rough edges and biting words, that’s who he is.

I think fic authors can do better than just making him a babied version of himself because not only is it kinda :/ to make him constantly dependent upon other people but it’s also just ooc.

I don’t really have much more to say on the matter though, I’ve seen so much ooc writing come out of this fandom alone that it’s impressive (in a /neg way)

He’ll like how you aren’t afraid to show your “boyish” for lack of a better word. He’ll also love that you play volleyball and will want to play with you all the time. I mean it. All the time. Literally will push a volleyball in your face until you say yes to him, and then he’ll stop when he is satisfied.

Kageyama, when he finds out that you bake will definitely want to eat some of your baking! You’ll mention it in a passing way, and he’ll stop you in your conversation and immediately want you to bake for him, which you obviously can’t, but you think it’s either way and tell him you will the next day! Next day comes around and he scarfs down the cookies like he depends on it, and when done will give you kiss as thanks. It’s kind of gross though because his mouth is still full lololol.

Physical features and pda; Like Sousuke, he isn’t one to actively look for pda, but if you were to hold his hand or cuddle with him in public, he will unconciously respond to you, he will really not think about and it’s the most adorable thing ever! He will just lean into and play with your curly hair and not really think anything of it. He will get laughed at by his friends, and he will be embarrassed but he won’t stop once he gets started! Brock still has his job as a babysitter after him and Tyler hook up. Brock has Luke bring the kids to his/Tyler's house and Luke can't get over how sweet Brock is and his feelings just slowly grow for him. At work tho, Luke meets Tyler and man is he hot, but he feels like he has seen him before, but where?

But Luke hasn't really seen him, he saw his kid's at the babysitters house. Luke just becomes more confused tho because he has feelings for both men and isnt sure if he is ready or if his boys will be ready. But it turns out, when he goes to get his boys that his boys really like the twins and Connor and are having a blast. Luke actually has a genuine smile on his face at the sight.

Cue Tyler walking in from work and suprized to see Luke there. Brock gives Tyler a kiss on the cheek and Lukes heart sunk. Luke starts getting the boys ready when Brock stops him and invites them to stay for dinner. Luke is kinda confused but accepts. Bryce and Marcel are happy that they get to hang out with Smii7y, Tux, and Connor more.

Luke helps with making dinner while Tyler plays with the kids. Brock asks Luke about Marcel and Bryce and why they say "Brother from another mother." and Luke just freezes. Brock thought it was an adoption thing but clearly sees that its not by Lukes body language. Luke is trying not to breakdown and Brock immediately begins apologizing for bringing it up. But Luke pushes past his gulit and speaks. "They are from different mothers .... and because of it, they are stuck with me ... and their moms dont want them cuz they are reminded of me ... a person who made bad choices."

Brock gently rubs his shoulder. "But they love you dearly, all they ever do is talk about how great you are. It was the same way when I started babysitting Tyler's kids. They love him so much it made me love him, and apparently he loved me back. But we both didn't know, so the kid's got us together cuz they knew. They knew that we both would be happy together."

Marcel comes into the kitchen and sees his dad with that look of guilt but it's not as deep as normal, Bryce walks in and notices it too. They look at each other with a thought before leaving quickly so they aren't spotted.

They go to Smii7y and Tux and tell them that they think their dad has a crush Brock but isnt sure about Tyler yet. Smii7y and Tux just get these smiles on their faces and ask Connor "What's is when someone loves 2 or more ppl and they all agree to it?" Connor replys "It's called Polyamory! Why?" Smii7y and Tux's smiles grew wider as Marcel and Bryce cant believe that poly is an actual thing. "How would you feel with being brothers?"

Tyler had left the room and went to the kitchen before that convo between the boys happened. Tyler came in to see Brock comforting Luke who was a wreck after what Brock said. Tyler is confused by what's going on and how Brock managed to make a man of that stature start having a breakdown. Tyler came over and Brock told him what Luke told him and Tyler understood where Luke was coming from. "Luke, I know you feel like your sons deserve better. But they just need you ... you to be there for them. You make them happy just as they make you happy. I know sometimes you feel like everything was your fault when it comes to them not having two parents, but its not really true. You needed to do what was best for them and you."

Back in the room the boys are making a plan to get there dads together. "I know it might take a month or 2 for tis to be a success, but in the end we will be brothers!" Tux shouts with Smii7y as the other three clap and cheer at the plan. Of course, the commotion brought Brock to the room, since Tyler is comforting Luke. The room goes dead quite when Brock opens the door. "What are you boys up too?" The older ones were looking at each other, confused as to if they should tell him or shouldn't tell him. Connor decides to tell Brock. "We are planning a Polyamory so we can have 3 dads and all be brothers." The others look at him with a shocked faces. "What? I just cut the time in half?" Brock's face was written with suprize at such a plan, he didn't even know where they got the idea from.

Bryce stood up "You see Mr. Brock ... there's more to our dad than what he shows. We know our dad has trouble when it comes to loving someone in a romantic way, ... cuz of our moms. But to see our dad not feel as guilty is quite..." "Wonderful." Marcel finished Bryce's sentence. "Just like our dad." Smii7y said as all the boys were now hugging each other.

Brock looks back at the two before looking back at the kids and giving them a wink. "They're fine, just being boys is all." Brock said with a giggle. "Why dont you boys hang out with Luke while me and Tyler finish dinner?" Marcel and Bryce smiled knowing they could tell their dad about the plan while Brock talks to Tyler. "Please dad?" They somewhat begged. "Alright, I'll stay and play."

Brock and Tyler go back to the kitchen while Luke stays. Little did Luke know he was in for something. "Ok dad, do you have a crush on Mr. Brock?" Marcel stated. Luke was caught off guard that he didn't know his face was becoming pink. "We'll take that as a yes." Tux smirked as he checked off a list for the plan. "Do you like my dad?" Smii7y said. Lukes face became red. "W-why are you asking me all these questions?!?" "Because we want you to be our dad too." Connor said with a soft smile and Luke became overwhelmed with happiness.

"Y-you want me as your dad too? ... But ... how?" "Apparently, its called Polyamory. Its when someone loves 2 or more ppl and they all agree on it." Bryce said as he hugged his dad. Luke leaned down and hugged Bryce only for Marcel to shout, "GROUP HUG!" As all the kids tackled him to the ground. Luke started to laugh as they all continued to give him hugs.

Meanwhile in the kitchen, Brock was telling Tyler what the kids planned. Tyler sat there and thought about it, Luke did flirt with him at work. "Well, he is kinda hot and we did just help him with some issues that he clearly as been dealing with by himself for who knows how long." Tyler ran his fingers through his hair as Brock began to speak. "He has been dealing with it for years, probably ever since his boys were born. He probably thinks that they would be more happy if they had other parents to look up too, or he is lonely as well. He wants ones who are like us, ones who care about each other and love each other no matter their faults or choices."

Tyler smiled. "That sounds familiar to something I said." Brock just chuckled as he finished making dinner. Brock called out to the kids and Luke that dinner is ready, the sounds of kids stampeding through the hallway could be heard before they appeared at the table. Luke had slowly trailed behind them and had a big smile on his face with slight tears in his eyes.

All the kids sat at the table as the adults put the food on it, the smell filling their noses with a fresh warmth. Soon they began to eat and enjoy each others company. When they are done the kids go back to playing and spying on the adults as to hear their convo.

Tyler starts it up. "So, I've been told what the kids have been planning ... and I must admit that I'm not really surprised that they would come up with something somewhat crazy ... but it just might work." Luke turns to Tyler and sees Brock with a soft smile. "Y-you mean? I-I.." Luke becomes a flustered mess as the two smile before hugging him.

"Operation: Polyamory was a success, boiz." Tux said as he high fived Smii7y. Marcel handed $2 to Bryce for winning a bet about how their dad would react. "We are brothers now." Connor hugged Marcel and Bryce to be joined by Smii7y and Tux. Everyone was happy as can be now that they were all together.

I see Woojin as an older brother he’s 3 years older than me so there we go even tho it’s not that much, anyway so with him it’s definitely brotherly and sibling-like love. It would be awesome to have him as my older brother can i swap my annoying bro with him please and I feel like he would be someone who I can rant about stuff and ask advice. Since he’s also super loving towards his members and takes care of them, I can sort of relate to that since I’m lowkey the mom-friend in my friend group. He’s such a sweetheart and I’m so soft ;-;

Bang Chan:

Ah, it’s mister ”here to wreck your bias list once again”. Chan is probably the one who confuses me the most, I mean he’s my bias but at the same time he’s my bias wrecker and I really don’t know how I feel about him?? I just feel drawn and very attracted to him. But despite being attracted to him, I seriously admire and respect Chan a lot. To me, he’s such an inspirational person and I would love to spend time with him talking about lyrics meanings and deep things. I think we're both that sort of people who sometimes think about stuff too deeply and maybe stress over small things. He's still so young and has a lot on his shoulders and i just sjdhsh. I would probably say my love for Chan is intellectual/magnetical type of love.

Lee Know:

Ohlord it’s the pisces+scorpio duo  with minho it’s definitely the best friends/playful type of love, absolutely. I feel like if we two were best friends we would be that super salty duo who throws shade at everyone. Minho is someone who I would love to just hang out with and share some hot tea ☕ about stuff. Also, I feel like minho would appreciate my super bad jokes and puns no one ever likes my puns and i bet my friends are ashamed of me lmao and we could throw awful pickup lines at each other. I would love to just go on a random shopping spree with him or mess around in a park in the middle of the night. Where do I get a best friend like minho?

Hyunjin:

Another sweet child o’ mine, my fellow Pisces son. I relate to Hyunjin a lot on an emotional level since I feel like we’re both emotionally sensitive so I’ll say I have this similar people/affectionate type of love towards him. I want to watch those overly sappy and cheesy movies/dramas with and cry together when something bad happens. Also, you know that face he does when he thinks his face is bloated?? I swear to god I do that exact same face 24/7. he's an affectionate person imo so i think he would make a nice hug/cuddle buddy, heh. and we both have a thing for weird noises too Hyunjin is probably the member who I relate the most to and he’s sometimes such a mood.

Han:

oof, the ultimate bias wrecker. My love for Jisung is probably the affectionate kind of love and he is another member, who I admire.  Jisung is quite deep and poetic person in my opinion and I’d love to discuss and write lyrics with him. I adore his positive and goofy personality and his shenanigans always make me giggle and lift up my mood. I sometimes just get distracted by him and then I find myself thinking “what an adorable bean you are”. He’s such a kind-hearted and sweet person, I just want to squish his cheeks and ruffle his hair. But sometimes I feel like he doesn’t really feel that confident about himself, so I would want to just comfort and support him. I want him to know he’s doing well, that he’s talented and he’s more than just the mood-maker of the group. I just want to cheer him up with my very shitty jokes and drag him to the nearest arcade. Yeah, I just want to be friends with Jisung and have a blast.

Felix:

Felix, my sweet sunshine baby boi, a precious puppy with a deep ancient God voice, I love him so much i might cry. Felix was my first skz bias and is now my second bias, so I do have a sort of special soft spot for him. I would say my love for him is a mix of affectionate and pure love. Felix is such a soft sweetheart and pure, I just want to hold and cuddle him. Like?? i just can’t imagine anything bad or nasty about him??? that boy just radiates sunshine and happiness ;_; Like I would just love to play video games and make goddamn vine references with him, that would be life.

Seungmin:

With Seungmin it’s friendship like love. I just see him as a good friend who I would have a blast hanging out with I lowkey wanna have a roast battle with him, don’t ask why i just do also, as a fellow myday, we two could just scream and fangirl about Day6 together lmao. me and seungmin singing more like screaming the lyrics to shoot me at 2am? sign me up. Jeongin:

Okay, Jeongin is not that much younger than me but he feels like a younger brother to me, so with him, it’s probably sibling-like love I would say. He’s so cute and precious and I just want to look after him and I’ll fight anyone who dares to corrupt this smol bean.  I also lowkey want to have that friendly, sibling rivalry -like relationship with him, idk why. oh my god, where do I even start with seo changbin. I'm sure everyone and their ancestors know that my love for him is definitely romantic/true type of love. That boy makes my heart burst and I'm just so damn whipped. im so sorry but i must expose myself and admit that there is some sexual love here too sometimes cuz boi i've had some rather heated thoughts/dreams with bin, anYWAY BACK TO BEING SOFT I love that we share the same kind of aesthetic with all the "i love dark" stuff and wearing mostly black, but then actually being the softest. Since we both have had the thought of becoming a tattoo artist, it would be so cool to draw and design tattoos together! andthengetacoupletattoo I would want to spend time with him at the studio, bring him food and make sure he doesn’t overwork himself and even though I don’t know much about making music but I would love to help him with writing lyrics too. I would support and hype him all the way and make sure he’s healthy. I want to make sure he’s eating and resting properly. Also! Do you have any art tips?

Uhhhhhh Funk im not The Greatest Artist ™ but I’ll try to bestow some Wisdom on you. Keep in mind Art is Subjective and I’m no expert and all that so take everything with a grain of salt but that being said I’ll try to give u Tips and Tricks

-listen so if you have a boring class at school just draw in it. School is great because you have 1. Access to paper at all times 2. Incredibly boring lectures. If you have a study hall that’s the Drawing JACKPOT. Basically what I’m saying is practice all the time when you have energy but like that’s such boring art advice. It’s important but “practice! uwu” is like what people with Natural Art Talent say when they didn’t have to figure everything out from the ground up so it’s kind of aggravating

-There’s gonna be people better than you. Chances are you have a friend who’s better than you because this is Tumblr we all draw. Try Not To Compare Yourself ™ which idk how to do but it’s bad don’t do it

-unless you find a terrible person with worse art than you in which case FUCK DUDE COMPARE YOURSELF TO THEM! THEYRE HORRIBLE AND THEY CANT DRAW FOR SHIT LOOK WHOS LAUGHING NOW!

-“work until your idols become your rivals” is absolute bullshit because your idols are working at it at the same time you are. You fool. You imbecile. I feel like this works better for writing when your idols can become irrelevant or straight up die between you being an aspiring author 8 year old and a tired 30 year old who just wrote The Great American Novel ™ or just kind of. Leave the fandom if you’re writing fanfic. Anyway

-ok that’s all the preachy shit, time for Real Art Advice ™. Keep in mind I do digital cartoony shit with Strong Lineart and cel shading for the most part and I pretty much only draw people so my knowledge is limited to that. if you wanna be a professional artist maybe do other things and Expand your Abilities ™

-Ok first off if you’re using Gimp or Photoshop please love yourself and download Firealpaca or illegally torrent Paint Tool Sai or something. I swear by Firealpaca it cured my depression but like. Photoshop is Trash for drawing. Get Firealpaca it has Line Correction ™

-Keep Line Correction ™ at like. A 5 when you’re sketching and at a 19 (the maximum) when you’re lining, coloring, shading, highlighting, doing literally anything that isn’t sketching

-Sketching digitally can be hard if you’re used to sketching on paper and I find it easier to do a sketch on paper, take a picture of it on my phone or scan it, and line/color it digitally. You do you and figure out what works best

-speaking of which I refused to use sketchbooks until I was Worthy ™ of not drawing on notebook paper and uhhhhhh that’s dumb just get a sketchbook they cost a little more than a notebook at Target it’s not super expensive. Although if you’re not financially in the position to buy a sketchbook anyway, just hoard notebooks from school that you didn’t use much. Bam, that’s your new sketchbook

-the Head Circle Cross Thing and the Spheres For Shoulder, Elbow, and Wrist Thing are good and important and will save you

-hands are hard so use references but bullshit your way through it. eventually they’ll look good (I haven’t gotten there yet)

-HAVE FUN WITH NOSES OH MY GOD. Noses are super fun and cool because there’s, like, infinite variety with them, they can be as long or short, thin or thick, rounded or pointy as you want, you can make them be, like, triangles or circles or more squareish or diamond-shaped, the base of the nose can be about as high or as low on the face as you want, you can make the nostrils prominent or not really there at all, they can add another Layer to a character’s design, oh my goodness noses are so fun. They’re like, severely underrated and oh my god I could gush about how fucking fun noses are

-same with facial expressions. Where you put the pupils and how big they are, how much of the eye is covered by eyelids, the way the eyebrows are, the mouth, tons of other shit. There’s loads of variety and so much you can do and honestly having fun with the facial expression is The Best Part. There’s tons of Face Art Chart Memes floating around, you know the ones, save it to your phone/computer and practice those on your own time it’s fun

-if you don’t know how to do something, avoiding it won’t help you. Just kind of draw around with it in your sketchbook or in a “I’m not posting this” file until you feel confident enough to do it in your Real Projects ™.

-Ok for lining did you know..… it isn’t illegal to erase parts of the lineart to clean it up.… just be careful and draw it back in to the best of your abilities if you erase too far and use a smaller eraser brush/lining brush for this… I know it’s tedious nobody likes lining it’s okay you can do this put on some good music

-use mcfucking references

-eyedrop character’s official colors but adjust said colors based on the color of your background to make them look less funky is my general rule for clothing, I usually pick the hair/skin by myself or from something I’ve already drawn though

-for flats, make sure your lineart is all closed off and there aren’t any “holes” cuz that’ll mess up your coloring

-so how I do flats is I use the magic wand tool to select whatever I want to color, expand selection 3 pixels (in firealpaca you can set it to do this automatically), pick the color I need, turn up the brush to as big as possible, and color it in. It saves the time you’d spend with cleaning up where the color gets outside the lines

-you can do the flats on one layer, but I personally like to do every Object on a different layer so when I do shading, I know what goes on top of what

-if a color is darker than the lineart it looks ugly so pick your line color with caution (or just use black! Unlike shading black lineart tends to go with pretty much everything)

-SHADE YOUR GODDAMN ART. Like, what makes people go “wow holy shit that’s good!” is the shading + highlights, don’t be lazy ya fuck.

-I’d take a break before shading to Refresh Your Eyes ™ but also I constantly forget this is a good idea

-don’t shade with black oh my god. Unless you’re doing Strong Punchy Dramatic Stuff or monochrome black and white stuff, don’t shade with black, and if you’re doing that it’ll probably be drawn into the lineart. Don’t shade with black please we can tell you’re doing it and it looks bad

-highlighting with white isn’t too bad though, especially with the eyes, but it might look too strong in some places

-As a general rule, shading is darker and more saturated, highlighting is lighter and less saturated. Whether it gets warmer or cooler depends a lot on what color or thing you’re shading or what you want the feel of the picture to be and I’m not 100% sure how to do it myself so uh. Trust your gut and change the color if it looks wrong I guess.

-where exactly the shadows or highlights fall depends on lots of things, just kind of. Look at how things work irl maybe? This is the kind of thing that you just have to practice, and it’ll look like shit until suddenly it doesn’t sorry I’m not sure what to say

-One Medium Sized White Dot on a layer above the lineart where the pupil borders the Iris (or the whites of the eyes if you’re like me and you make the pupil and Iris one thing) works for a glint in the eye that makes a person look less dead and more cute. How big you’re gonna make it depends on how adorable you want the person to be

-SMOOTH BORDERS FOR THE SHADING ARE REALLY IMPORTANT IF YOURE DOING CEL SHADING which is why firealpaca is my best friend thanks line smoothing. If you’re doing like. Soft shading or painterly shit or other kinds of shading it’s less Super Important but like. Still be sort of neat. Unless being really messy and sketchy is what you’re going for but even then you still need to be sort of careful

-for simple backgrounds, it’s like. Easy to make it interesting. Add polka dots to the background or a big old square or a gradient or a cloud filter or something the possibilities are endless. Another option is to straight up make it transparent and write a secret message in white on the side. But uhh never do a blank white background at the very least fill it with a solid color

-ok style is kind of hard because I never had to struggle to find my style? I just “drew in my handwriting” so to speak and then if along the way I realized something looked shitty I just changed how I drew it slightly? I guess a thing you could do if you’re in tune enough is look at the styles of things you do like and things you don’t and figure out why you do and don’t like it. “I like how *2010s cartoon* does Eyes!” great take that general concept. “I hate how this shitty yaoi has enormous hands!” great then don’t do that. It’s all Personal Preference my dude style is Your Own Thing
