Gordo's Law of Genetics is so funny to me it's just a minute and a half of the full cast telling Gordon his genetics fucking suck and it's a jam

not to be controversial bc I know this is like…not in line with shifting opinions on fanfic comment culture but if there’s a glaring typo in my work I will NOT be offended by pointing it out. if ao3 fucks up the formatting…I will also not be offended by having this pointed out…
‘looking forward to the next update’ and ‘I hope you update soon!’ are different vibes than a demand, and should be read in good faith because a reader is finding their way to tell you how much they love it. I will not be mad at this.
‘I don’t usually like this ship but this fic made me feel something’ is also incredibly high praise. I’m not going to get mad at this.
even ‘I love this fic but I’m curious about why you made [x] choice’ is just another way a reader is engaging in and putting thought into your work.
I just feel like a lot of authors take any comment that’s not perfectly articulated glowing praise in the exact manner they’re hoping to receive it in bad faith.
fic engagement has been dropping across the board over the last several years, and yes it’s frustrating but it isn’t as though I can’t see how it happens. comment anxiety can be a real thing. the last thing anyone wants to do is offend an author they love, and that means sometimes people default to silence.
idk where I’m going with this I guess aside from saying unless a comment is outright attacking me I’m never going to get mad at it, and I think a lot of authors should feel the same way. ESPECIALLY TYPOS PLZ GOD POINT OUT MY TYPOS.

Imagine looking at a character whose entire premise is that in every stage of his life, he's made every version of himself into someone that inspires people to such a degree that EVERY SINGLE VERSION OF HIM has people wanting to literally follow in his footsteps in some way or another.....
And coming to the conclusion that like.....the most important things about him are the sum of all his trappings. His entirely homemade developed from scratch could not exist if not for what he already was and brought with him BEFORE crafting this newest version of himself trappings, with his greatest trait throughout all of it being his adaptability; his ability and willingness to roll with the punches and not try to simply weather any opposition or changes to his life but instead reshape himself as needed to better fit INTO whatever new shape his life and the world around him takes. All while managing to carry the most innate, fundamental and necessary aspects of himself from one version to the next. Thus every single version of himself is different but simultaneously every single version of himself is also undeniably the same person.
The strength of this character, to me, will always be that he can be so many versions of himself, he can become so many things, all without ever actually losing or discarding any of the aspects of himself he considers most essential, the things he's not willing to lose or give up just to keep going. Finding that road not taken by most, usually because most never even think to look for it as an option. But one that he's always able to find because the one trick he's mastered in his tumultuous life is threading that needle of not just digging in his heels in an unproductive way but rather being selective about when and where he makes a stand and decides "this is not a thing I'm willing to compromise about" but here are places and ways I can and will change and evolve and adapt in order to make it possible for me to hold onto these parts and keep them as they are.
And that's why its always so mind-boggling to me that so many writers can't seem to think of anything else to do with Dick Grayson other than invent some new reason for him to just....not be that person, or to like just take the character whose most basic fundamental trait he's NOT about to compromise on is willingly giving up his spot in the driver's seat of his own life.....and make him just a passenger in his own life and stories.
Dick Grayson at age nine....at age nineteen...at age twenty nine....the one core thread running through all versions of him is the only way he's standing back and letting you call the shots for him or putting him on the sidelines in some way is over his dead body.
HOW he goes about that, what that looks like, who he becomes and what aspects of himself he plays up at some times and what traits he lets fall by the wayside at other times when they offer less in service to his primary goal here....that changes constantly. He changes constantly.
But those changes are almost always (or at least they used to be/should be IN MY OPINION) made with the intention of keeping certain things about him or his life as consistent as possible.
That's the duality of Dick Grayson that I'm here for. The inherent contradiction of him that COULD allow for endless conflict and breaking new narrative ground in all sorts of ways if mined properly:
His eternal willingness to compromise....but only ever in pursuit of doubling down on the ways he's not willing to compromise.
Forever walking that tightrope in ways that only a kid born and raised in a circus could ever hope to.

rick riordan you became the thing you swore so much to destroy. why change some of these things in the show??? the thing im most angry about is that the changes are either purely nonsensical or just done poorly
theyve completely eliminated the books sense of urgency, like theres no stakes on anything. you can miss the deadline and everythings fixed with a little talk with zeus. you recognize medusa and crusty and the lotus hotel right out of the gate, and obviously the only conclusion is that kronos is behind everything even though hes supposed to be locked in the deepest part of tartarus and youre a 12yo who just got thrown into this life and is just learning that monsters are real. fights are over in 30 seconds and theres no injuries or consequences except for an off screen comment on how you lost your bag or maybe a new stain on your shirt. theyre 12 but also they know everything there is to know about the greek myths.
in the books they learn and realize things as they go! its the experiences that change percy and grover and annabeth and things are supposed to be HARD because theyre kids!!! and they were sent on a mission they shouldnt have been sent on, but they get through it with each other and with a sense of comedy because theyre fucking kids! yea theyre gonna almost die and then say hello to gladiola the pink poodle, and play hacky sack on the bus stop, and stuff themselves with cheeseburgers every chance they get bc kids arent supposed all knowing and mature all the time
you cant promise a faithful adaptation of a book and then change the basic things that made the book be loved in the first place

a trend i’ve noticed is that like 90% of the time when you find someone complaining about “today’s cartoons” and how “the quality has gone down since their childhood” the last “modern cartoon” they’ve watched is like. steven universe

Can I just say that I adore this piece of Witness concept art specifically??? I adore all of it honestly for the cosmic horror that it is. But this specifically.
It's like a chonky big cat, like a black panther with that long and thick tail. The image of this behemoth just pouncing on people to death is so fun. Playing with it's prey even. Or maybe just a ball of string. It sprinting down places in seconds, it being both so heavy but also as graceful as a cat, running and jumping over obstacles with coordinated ease, using it's tail for balance and steering. It looking down at it's prey as it holds it down in it's paws, relishing in it's despair.
And just look at it laying down there, just vibing like a lazy cat, resting a paw on it's limb. I adore it.

In retrospect, the student loans thing in Saints Row reboot is fucking hilarious when you think about it. Its actually never mentioned in game despite marketing making it believe its some core plot point, yet everyone who didn't bother touching it but is opinionated on it brings it up constantly as some genuine criticism, completely outing themselves to not have even bothered watching a simple playthrough before forming an opinion

I get why it frustrates people to not be able to afford things but it just. really gets me sometimes just HOW uncaring about worker's compensation so many leftist spaces have become
Like the same people who will encourage artists to price their commissions based on the amount of time it takes to make it (with respect paid to the many more hours of practice and training etc.) will turn around and complain that a TTRPG book with hundreds upon hundreds of hours of work put into it is overpriced at $40.
And as always this is the daycare problem: that the people who work at daycares and the people who most need childcare tend to come from the same demographic, and nobody has enough money.
But I just. Yes, indie art/fiction/games/whatever being expensive makes them unavailable to poor fans. But if you can't actually make money out of them, that makes working on them unavailable to poor creators, who need to spend time and effort on stuff that will help them stay alive. It's just very easy to complain about capitalism 'infiltrating hobbies' or 'only caring about profit' when you do have the comfort to pursue hobbies purely for your leisure. Or when you just completely dehumanise all creators, I guess.

What I really love about ZZZ and how the game treats Nicole (and tbh everyone), is that yes, She IS hot and her design was deliberately made to be attractive. But she has a very strong personality outside of that, AND while the game does occasionally play on her attractiveness in cut scenes, and comics it's usually done in a tasteful manner, also it's not in all of them.
Also she's allowed to be a gremlin just as much as the rest of the cast and I love that.
I don't know. I'm just happy that it shows that making hot characters who are women can be done without objectifying them.
