imagine being kevin day, son of exy, born and bred to be a cog in the well-oiled machine that is the edgar allan ravens. all you know being the routine of practice and practice and practice and performance and victory alongside those you call brothers.

-and then one day you wake up in your estranged father's apartment between a bottle of painkillers and a bottle of vodka and there is a knot of bandages where your future used to be. you don't wake up at 4am anymore. you sleep until noon and vomit the remainders of life as you knew it into unfamiliar toilets. you watch orange and white clash against each other from sidelines you haven't touched since you started growing facial hair.

your brother doesn't ask you to come home. you would come if he asked. the days are longer here and the food is too rich. the colors are too harsh, the language barrier is too much. you speak and no one understands.

they feel sorry for you, but not for what you have lost, instead for what you have suffered. you try to show them what belonging means, to sever parts of yourself to fit inside a uniform, but they don't understand the necessity of the blade the way your brothers did. they don't understand that suffering feels religious if you do it right.

the therapist tells you it's survivor's guilt but the only survivors you can see are on the court in black and red and they read your eulogy after the game at a press conference. you are not a survivor in any way that matters anymore. how treacherous your heart is for continuing to beat when you can't even hold your lifeline in your hand without dropping it.

you want to go home but your key doesn't open the same door anymore. you want to sit beside your brother but there is no space on his side of the table. you want to be a raven but you are a fox.

you grieve for connection until there is a knife where your neck guard used to sit. you grieve for your life until a boy offers to show you how it feels to survive. you offer to show him how it feels to live. he tells you he won't sever parts of himself to fit the uniform, but there are telltale bloodstains in the fabric from long before you asked.

you wake up at 4am again. you take turns vomiting in the toilet, you when the alcohol level dips too low and him when his smile runs out. he doesn't speak your language but he understands it. he keeps the car running when you visit the therapist. he keeps an eye on your back to watch the 02 on your jersey turn orange. the colors don't seem as harsh anymore.

he offers you safety. he offers you belonging. he offers you the only thing he knows how to give, the only thing you know how to take.

he offers you a lifeline. you pick it up with your right hand.

Of course there are many things the adaptation of hotd is doing terribly (and I am having so much fun complaining about them), but one of the things I think they actually did extremely well in this episode was the sheer destruction wrought by the dragons. Like, it almost felt like the battle was less about the dragons themselves and more about showing the wholesale and indiscriminate destruction that they wrought when unleashed. Soldiers of all sides and loyalties getting crushed underfoot and really reinforcing this thing that GRRM has been saying over and over again: that dragons are nukes. That it doesn't matter who or to what end they're unleashed in service of, only that people are going to die horribly and pointlessly, and that what's left in their wake won't be able to be fixed. Like Harrenhall itself, standing in ruins as a monument to the fact that, even hundreds of years later, what's been destroyed by dragons (nuclear weapons) cannot be fixed by man in a way that matters (nuclear exclusion zones).

I think I've projected so many of my own autistic traits on him over the years, chances are he's at least a little bit on the spectrum.

i know it can be frustrating to see games played "incorrectly", but tbh some of my favorite games videos are ones where they start to drift away from the intended rules for the sake of fun. Like them doing "is that your final answer" and the VERY visible reactions during Chanse's Tarantino round as he explains his thinking are both clearly violating the intended rules a little bit. But it made it sooo much better to watch :'D

i'm actually unnaturally excited for the ascendacy festival scenes i need to see this shitty play so bad

I'm honestly so stoked for it, if the Ascendancy Festival wasn't such a crux for several romance routes I would have written it by now! I absolutely need this play to be absolute dogshit narratively and accuracy-wise, but dressed in the most high-handed Shakespearean language I can muster so the whole city (outside of the people that it's based on) will go hog wild for it and demand constant encores and it becomes like THE cultural phenomenon of the year...

Not sure if this will mean anything to you but my sister has always had trouble viewing y/n s in the dca fandom as anything other than masculine due to how people draw them. Your y/n s are some of the few where my sister genuinely views them as nonbinary without issue.

When it comes to designing visually nb y/n s i think you probably do some of the best ones.

Like I've heard a couple people say they see a lot more femanine atyle Y/Ns while others say its a vast majority of masc y/ns

I feel like androgynous or more nonbinary designs make it a bit easier to project different gender identities (for me at least) and I don't want it to feel like it leans too much one way or the other usually so that its easier for people to enjoy it and not be kinda turned off by a more gendered design

But I appreciate the affirmation a ton!! 💕
