sorry and now im just thinking about fanfic but i think my relationship to reading fanfic has changed so much now that im writing more and i kind of hate it because i feel like i cant read without feeling guilty that im not writing. like if i have time to read it then surely i have time to write it. which is not really fair to myself because reading (especially fanfic) takes way less mental energy for me than writing so i can read when im tired or distracted or busy or whatever but i cant write unless my body and brain are literally in perfect condition. but the result is that i feel so guilty about reading that i basically just reread old fics these days and dont read anything new because that is somehow worse (?) than rereading something ive read before which makes zero logical sense but thats the way it is. but then even logging on to ao3 stresses me out because i feel like im being a bad member of the community per se bc i havent read up on the latest stuff. which is literally so dumb! like so ridiculous and i know it doesnt make any sense at all but i cant help feeling bad about it anyway. ive read like three new fics since december.

Alright, I’m really angry right now. And the reason is a comment on Instagram on one of my hankcon renders. I spent over three hours on that conversation, and in the end, I realized there was no point trying to prove anything to this person, so I blocked them and deleted our dialogue. But that conversation keeps bothering me.

This person, of course, tried to tell me that Hank and Connor can’t be lovers (let’s skip the whole “they’re like father and son” thing), because it’s “gross”, and so on. And when they apparently ran out of arguments, they began claiming that Hank and Connor are sexually incompatible, that Hank is too old to have sex with Connor, and started naming other characters and ships they felt were better suited for Connor. And gods, I really hate those kinds of "arguments."

I’ve never gone into detail here about how I view their sex life... Well — I guess it’s time to talk about it.

So, Connor is an android, which means physically (if he has genitalia), he can have sex several times a day. He doesn’t get tired, has no refractory period (which I actually doubt), his biocomponents and interfaces allow for precise control over erection, breathing, rhythm — even vibration, if desired (though in my opinion, this part is more headcanon than canon — machines overheat, and any tech needs rest. Androids are no exception).

The point is: he can have sex, but he’ll only do it if he wants to, not because he “can.”

(And it’s important to note: androids have no biological need for sex. That matters.)

Now — Hank. A statistically average man at age 53 is still quite capable of having an active sex life, though: he may need more time to start it over, there may be limitations due to fatigue, depression, or alcohol (assuming he hasn’t quit drinking or improved his health — which, I firmly believe, he would for Connor and for himself).

In a healthy and trusting relationship, the frequency could be 3–4 times a week — even more if Hank is in good shape. Also, in 2038, medicine and technology are far more advanced. With the help of medical support (like stimulants or implants), Hank could have more regular sex.

And I’d like to add: frequency ≠ quality Connor may initiate sex more often — but he’s also capable of adapting, being attentive, and caring about Hank’s condition.

So what’s the realistic picture?

Sex between them can be frequent enough, if:

both partners want it,

Hank has no serious limitations (or there are ways to compensate),

and the relationship is based on emotional closeness, not just physical compatibility.

Love between a human and an android isn’t about physical perfection. It’s about wanting to be there.

Now, I understand the fandom's fantasy where “more = better” (especially with android × android pairings). But 3–4 times a week is not “little.” This “five times a day every day” stuff is mostly fantasy, fetish, and metaphor. Not a reflection of love, maturity, or even satisfaction.

I can see people saying:

“more sex = better ship.”

But:

Sexual life is about a rhythm that fits both partners, not a marathon.

Mature couples (especially those involving an older person and a non-human being) often choose quality over quantity.

That's why I think Hank and Connor may have sex less frequently, but it’s deeper and more meaningful. “Five times a day” isn’t about love—it’s porn or fantasy. When people say, “but androids are tireless, no aging, sex forever, so it’s better,” I have a few things to point out:

That’s not about real psychology (and yes, I know fanfics aren’t written for realism, but still). It’s not about trust. It’s not about vulnerability. It’s about hypersexualized fantasy, where characters become emotionless ideal bodies. And sure, that’s fine in erotica — but don’t treat it as evidence of “better compatibility.”

When I think of Hank, I agree — he might not be as physically active as someone younger. But he gives Connor something no one else can: emotional realism, honesty, maturity, and grounded, earned desire. Or have we forgotten that the entire game is built around the value of emotion?

People don’t say “Connor needs more sex” because they care about Connor. They say it because:

they want to see a hot body in action

they don’t want to see an older partner

they’re afraid of quiet, depth, and stability.

But Connor? He’s not a “horny catboy.” He’s focused, intentional — and if deviant, profoundly emotional.

That’s why I firmly believe:

Hank and Connor are sexually compatible. They’re honest. Real intimacy is not a race.

Connor can have sex every day. But that doesn’t mean he wants to do it with just anyone. With Hank, maybe it’s less frequent. But every time is intentional, emotional, and loving.

When people argue otherwise, I just want to facepalm. Especially when they say, “frequency = better”/“more sex = better ship.” But that argument suddenly shifts the moment Hank is brought into it.

Let’s be honest: many people push the idea that their ship is better because of more sex. Because fandom, at its core, is very horny, and sex in the ship is practically the most important indicator of the ship’s “quality.” Not all of people think so, but still.

When it comes to other ships, high frequency = passion. But when it’s about Hank, the same frequency becomes a flaw: “he’s too old.”

That’s the double standard. In one context, sexuality means emotion and passion. In another — it’s just about biology and age.

Why?

And for the record — Hank doesn’t just have a dick. He has hands. He has a tongue. He has experience. And above all — he has intention.

And most importantly — he has presence. He pays attention. He listens. He cares. What Connor gets with Hank isn't just about performance — it's about being known, felt, and wanted on every level.

Pleasure isn’t measured in stamina. It’s measured in intimacy. And Hank knows how to give that — not through endless repetition, but through intention.

I personally believe the truth is this: every ship deserves sexual depth — if that sexuality comes from feeling, not stereotype.

It’s not about “how often.” It’s about why. Frequency is not a measure of love.

A lot of people prefer younger/android ships not because they’re more emotional or canonical but because they make it easier to imagine endless, intense, tireless sex.

And that’s not wrong. But it needs to be called what it is.

So what’s behind fandom’s horny fixation? Connor = perfect body + mystery. Beautiful, quiet, efficient, “obedient but potentially dangerous”—the perfect erotic fantasy.

Deviant Connor = sexually aware android with 1000 functions. He becomes a vessel for desire. People want not story — but stimulation. And that’s fine. To an extent.

But Hank doesn’t fit that fantasy. He doesn’t offer “a lot of fucking.” He’s not young. He’s not a sleek android. He’s not edgy-sexy. He’s just… someone who cares.

Which makes him less popular with people looking for fast dopamine from shower scenes.

In the horny-fic world — that looks like “less fun, more feelings.” Which is less popular if what people want is fast dopamine.

Let’s look at Connor again. He’s not driven by instincts. He doesn’t get hormones, he doesn’t follow physical urges.

His sexuality isn’t about pleasure — it’s about understanding, meaning, and connection. He doesn’t fuck because he can — he does it when it matters.

And the real question is:

Does Connor himself want “a lot of sex”? Or do people want him to want it?

Hank may offer less — but that ��less” means more.

Yes — 3–4 times a week. Maybe slower. Maybe not always. But each time says: “I’m here. I’m with you. I’m not going anywhere.”

And the other ships? The fandom is free to fantasize however it likes. But that’s a different story, a different genre, a different Connor.

So yes — fandom wants “lots of sex with tireless partners.”

And they pick the ships that make that fantasy easier.

But Hank gives not porn — but truth. And not everyone is ready for that.

Connor? He’d rather lie in silence with one person after one act of love — than chase stimulation through body after body.

Is Mayuri, in your opinion, an opera-playing villain or a techno-playing villain? I ask because I had a whim to listen to the Akhenaten opera and was, after being moved by the singing (I had never heard a countertenor before and the sound was so gorgeous and otherworldly whether in English, Egyptian, or sci-fi-esque vocalizing), struck by the realization that it might be a tripleBleach and/or Mayuri thing.

Mayuri is beyond genre. Like, you know how a few months ago we were talking about hearing aids and Mayuri's ear cones, and were speculating about the frequencies of sound they're tuned to? THAAAAT. When they're not tuned to the frequency of mandatory conversation, man's out here listening to ghost shrimp crackles and piecing together the aural profile of reishi itself. Not the bludgeoning soundwaves that accompany sword releases or surges of spiritual pressure, but the latent music of reishi motes holding different constellations to take the form of this material or the next; reishi as atmosphere; reishi as some quality of this universe that is not solid, liquid, gas, light, Abstract Metaphysical Quantities A-Z. It is only perceivable as sound.

That being said, Akhenaten definitely seems like a spectacle he'd be into! And if he had to choose a composer from the Living World (teeth grit, lip curling) why not Philip Glass?

I went to an undergraduate institution with a bunch of brutalist architecture and a "central campus" specifically designed to be inhospitable to large public political demonstrations, as well as a system of underground tunnels for covert political operations. Definitely the vibe you want to accompany your bioengineering flagship, LOL. Not dystopian at all! (I think normal people who walk through this school do not think of it in these terms, and consider it a very pleasant place. But THEY DON'T KNOW.) And of course, big Central 46 energy.

It also has a well-regarded contemporary music program, which is very contemporary. I think Mayuri would like music like that, because the brainwaves must be sublime. And I think he'd love the temporal fuckery of it all, given his fight with Szayel.

He probably makes the labs work in silence--even though it literally doesn't matter what kind of noise is coming out of them, since he can tune his cone-ears to refuse the sound, if he wanted--because, per my co-blogger (who had to attend the water torture concert with me, lol), "nothing is more monotonous than a completely silent lab."

But mostly, the mandate of silence is simply to control for variables. Some labs are doing stuff where the vibrations of sound might actually throw off data. I mean, most aren't, but all the labs are experiments in themselves, because sometimes Mayuri plays water torture music for them, for Science. Sometime he plays sounds imperceptible to any ears but his, to see if it produces any measurable, if silent, effects.

Akon plays music in the lab when Mayuri's not around, though. Anything from Millennial American rap to Beijing opera to experimental jazz to the Fast and Furious soundtracks.

PREFACE

This is a low-activity, independent, crossover friendly multi muse blog that houses both canon characters (or canon-divergent I should say) and oc’s related to bleach! Do note that when I say canon-divergent for my canon muses, I really, really mean it in light of my headcanon-ing for those muses. Also, while the muses on this blog are from Bleach, I do not consider myself, this blog, or my muses to be heavily affiliated with the Bleach fandom itself-- love the series, but ultimately I'm going to write these muses however I want, and write them in whatever settings/au's/etc's that I want SFJHGSFDGHJ.

With that out of the way: my name’s mark, i’m 29 years old, tired af, but most importantly, pleased to meet you! I’ve been writing on this hellsite for more than 10 years now, and here I am, finally deciding to cluster some of my muses together in the hopes of being more active DFGHSDGHJFGH but we’ll see! 1. This blog is low activity, as stated above, meaning that my activity can ebb and flow but will generally be pretty sparse. I work a very time and sanity consuming job that, well, eats up about 80% of my week and my energy e.e but I will try to be here  as much as I can.

2. This blog is selective, and mutual’s only, a.k.a, I can be kinda choosy in regards to who I follow back, and I will only interact IC with those I follow back. If you follow me and I don’t follow you back in a few days, I’m probably not going to, sorry (unless i’m on hiatus or something in which case I’m not actively checking up on my blog or followers or anything sdfjhgsdfjghs). I generally follow back all types of blogs (canon’s/multi’s/oc’s/etc) provided I’m familiar with their fandoms and/or can see us interacting in some way. Deplorables please dni though.

3. This blog does practice mains, and exclusives, but the latter will only ever be used for my closest friends. The latter aside, I am definitely open to writing with multiple portrayals of a muse, though mains will get higher priority, should I have them.

4. GODMODDING/META-GAMING: Having to put this down as a rule feels so cursed in the lords year 2023 (almost 2024) like, you’d think most people would know this by now, but, for the people in the back I guess; don’t god mod or try to control my muse without my permission and all that!

5. REPLY SPEED/LENGTH: I can be the slowest writer in the known universe so please keep that in mind when you are writing with me. sometimes it can take me weeks, or even a month or more than that to get to replies. i know that isn’t ideal for some people, and if that puts you off from wanting to write with me i completely understand, but that’s just how my brain works. sometimes i can put things out relatively fast, but thanks to the various factors of my life, most of the time my writing frequency is sporadic and my muse for threads can ebb and flow, so [insert shrugging here] that just how it be.

When it comes to reply length, i’m a big quality over quantity person. I literally do not care how big or small your reply is so long as you show enthusiasm and give me enough to work with when it comes to my response. likewise, i’d ask that you don’t hold me to any certain ‘quantity’ when it comes to my writing. i’ll make an attempt to match your length, but at the end of the day, i might not always be able to do that. i will, however, make sure to give you something to work with, instead of leaving the metaphorical ‘ball’ in your court all the time.

6. NSFW?: I don’t expect a ton of sexual-esque NSFW stuff to happen on this blog, but with some muses I suppose it is more likely. NSFW of any kind will of course be tagged accordingly, and put under readmores, but as far as hard-core smut goes, I, do not see myself ever publicly writing that, so situations of that nature, if they do occur, will be taken down the ‘fade to black’ route.

7. SHIPPING? Shipping of the romantic variety is not a huge priority for me, outside of the ships I have with my GF’s muses. There are some muses on my blog that I am potentially open to shipping with in certain circumstances (with good ic chemistry, and proper ooc communication being paramount for such things) ofc, but we'll just have to see how that all goes.

8.  MUN SELF-CALLOUT: I suffer from crippling social anxiety and I’m horrible about approaching people first, so if you want to write with me, your best bet is to just hit up my inbox to talk about things! if anything i try to keep an eye out for starter calls but i dont usually keep up with the dash so, those tend to escape me unfortunately sdfkhjsdfhjksd. Welcome to this blog! This is a wild little idea I had which I am trying out to see if it gets anywhere. (I may abandon it almost immediately or at any time in the future, or I may just not use it all that often.)

Essentially I'll be using this blog to post creative writing doodles which were inspired by art or visual stimuli I've come across. I don't promise quality, quantity or frequency with this; it's simply an attempt to get me creating more often.

What will I respond to?

I'll respond to any visual artwork or piece of media that interests me. This could include drawings/paintings, photography, costumes, make-up, dance, music, short films, music videos, animations, and so on. I will not engage with NSFW media.

Can you send me stuff you think I might be inspired by?

Of course! You can tag me in posts or send me links/images in asks or DMs! Couple of caveats though:

I only reblog images with image descriptions. If a video or piece of music is able to be described, the same applies there. If you point me to something which doesn't have a description, I may not use it or it may take me much longer to respond. I really admire your update frequency - you hit an incredibly rare combination of quality, quantity, and regular updates. I'm working on a couple of reed900 fics right now because they've eaten my brain like a goddamn parasite. Do you have any tips on how you edit your work after a first draft? Do you work with a beta? It's been ages since I edited anything non-academic.

it depends on the length and what type of work you’re writing. I do a lot of editing because I’m basically writing novels, so my *first* edit is to go back to all the places I wrote [CLUE] or [THEY GET TO PLACE] and fill those spots out so they make sense and work with the plot

second edit is then just a read through, where I read the whole entire thing and get a feel for what’s missing or not working, doing grammar and spot-checking as I go

third edit is for the stuff I missed and some specific things. “stuff I missed” would be that I filled in a plot hole on Edit One, but then realized in Edit Two once I’m reading the whole thing that it created a new problem or didn’t work as well as I thought I did, so Edit Three is fixing that

for me, “specific things” is like, remembering to add in how Gavin takes his testosterone (shots, but he’s thinking about switching to the gel) or that he’s having this emotional reaction because of his BPD specifically. or for Nines, how he responds with a tier of “Acknowledged” (I physically heard your opinion), “Noted” (I am paying attention to your opinion), or “Understood” (I validate your opinion)

I also check for specific shit I know I do, like writing sentences that are “person does [thing], [verbing] as they [verb].” I have a lot of “sentence-comma-[verbing]” sentences. and sometimes too many dialogue descriptors instead of just writing “said.” shit like that

fourth edit is the last one, for length. I tend to write massive 100k+++ novels, so I’ll do a final edit where I just trim shit down to make sure the plot flows well and doesn’t get bogged down by too much dialogue, exposition, and cutesy moments that don’t actually add to plot or character development

I don’t work with betas, I think primarily because I write such long works. I’ve had people beta for me before, but they always drop out way before it’s actually done. LORD KNOWS it’s hard to make that sort of commitment!!

you can save on a lot of editing by having a good outline to start with (but like all writing tips, this is entirely subjective and what might work for me, or you, or 90% of writers might be shit advice for someone else)

I think up all the Cool Scenes I want to pack together into a fic, and I write them all down on flashcards or in a Word document. then I arrange them to make a Plot(tm). there should be a New Thing that happens about 20% through that kicks off or ratchets up the Plot, a Big Change in the middle, and an Oh Fuck at 75%

those are just wibbly estimates though--I personally write really heavy on the third act, putting my Oh Fuck at 70-75%. in movies, that’s usually the moment that it looks like the hero won’t make it, right before one last Rally!!! and then the hero wins. that’s usually like, 80-90%, with just a little percentage at the end to wrap things up for the happily ever after

I prefer to put some goddamn DEPTH in my happily ever after. yeah, the bad guy’s dead, but like,,, how fucked up are our heroes though? they just go home and don’t get therapy and have an apple pie life with zero effort?? bitch.

so I tend to devote an almost-as-big chunk to the resolution as I do to the fighting the bad guy part, but that’s a personal choice

flashcards are great imo because they let you physically move scenes around and count out or stack up how your different segments look. if you’ve got eight flashcards for the beginning and only seven for 20-50%, then something is unbalanced, and that’s way easier for me to see with physical cards

also, a “scene” is One Thing. they go to a place and do something or have that Big Talk. if they have to go to a new place, switch POVs, or make a new discovery, that’s probably where you’re ending one scene and starting a new scene, so start a separate flashcard. sex scenes might be one or two flashcards for most people, but I know myself and how I cannot write a sex scene in a single chapter, so I always estimate that any sex scene I put down on a flashcard is actually going to be 2-3 chapters

but again, this is assuming you’re writing long fics like I am. I don’t really write that many shorter fics, so I have far less advice for that!

sometimes it’s hard to notice how far you’ve come with something until there’s a relapse.

The pain and discomfort from my IBS used to be chronic. It was hard to determine what was triggering it since it seemed like everything was a trigger. Even just during a half hour walk in my neighbourhood, I had to have a mental map of all the stores and restaurants on my route that would let me use their washroom. there was always the fear in the back of my head that there might be a occurrence where I wouldn’t actually make it to a bathroom--in the early days, that happened more than once. I felt so much shame at the time knowing I was probably the only 11 year old that I knew of that’s crapped their pants.

It’s very very hard to really talk about all this, not really because I feel much embarrassment around this anymore... it’s more that “bathroom talk” really isn’t acceptable in society. But it’s so common for me! I don’t know how to say to someone that I just spent a half hour in the bathroom because I made a social slip up and got so anxious about it to the point of having the shits.

Or like, the pain! The pain is terrible. It feels like I’m being stabbing in the gut. I get so sweaty and overheated, sometimes I end up having to strip in the bathroom because it feels like it’s the only way to bring my body temperature back down. I have been keeled over, on the brink of tears, from the pain.

But, i know i can’t talk about this. but then when i tell someone i deal with chronic pain, they kind of roll their eyes. like they don’t get that this is something that could be that painful, since “it’s all in my head,” they think i’m just exaggerating. So i don’t bring it up, and i don’t let on how much pain i’m in when it’s happening.

I’m writing all of this though, since when I had an episode yesterday--the familiar pain, desperation... I realized how long it’s actually been since the last time I had an episode.

And while it was a bit of a shock to re-get used to sensations that used to be so commonplace, i did feel some pride that I’ve gotten to the point that, while I don’t feel I’m any less anxious, I’m processing my anxiety better? I’m not shoving it down. that’s really good.

The big frustrating thing right now with talking with my GI specialist, who is following me for all the other funky gut stuff that goes on with me, is that I can’t really explain to him in a way that he’ll listen to, that, since I’ve dealt with this for so long, I can almost immediately distinguish between IBS, food related, and stomach bug, in terms of getting the runs. They all feel different. But, I obv don’t have like, “proof” that I can tell the difference, beyond thorough descriptions, so i’m not sure if he believes me.  

I am grateful that he’s been so thorough in taking the time to rule out all the “scary” things. I’ve had a few people not even try cus they saw that some of it was definitely anxiety triggered, so they hand waved it and just told me to get my anxiety under control. So this guy is good in my books. But it’s still frustrating...

But if something goes wrong, something goes amiss, who is strong enough to stay and protect him?; Levi is being accused with treason and is forced to flee/go into hiding and Erwin offers his help.

[3] Only The Strong Survive: While out on a mission, Erwin and Levi gets abducted by someone outside the walls, They have no idea by whom, why or where they are taken. All they know is that they have to escape and find their back home without getting devoured by titans on the way...

[4] A Choice with No Regrets: An alternative universe in which Erwin is a spy/infiltrator from Marley who recieves orders to capture/kill Levi who is considered a threat. Will Erwin be able to go through with the plan having formed a strong bond with Levi? What if Erwin, in order to save Levi's life, ends up sacrificing Eren further down the line? And what happens when Levi finds out he is being decieved by the one person he has come to respect and even care for? (Story takes place shortly after the death of Levi's friends) *** Personal favorite.

Roleplay experience: I have been roleplaying for 14 years give or take. As a result, I am incredibly picky when it comes to who I choose to write with, it's not first come first served with me. If I feel like our writing style don't match, I will most likely have to decline.

Posting frequency: Depending on my work schedule, my inspiration level and how many roleplays I am cureently involved with you can expect anything from 1-3 replies every week. I am also a very slow typer; the kind that spends a ridiculous amount of time looking over, re-writing and making changes to their reply before posting; as a general rule I won't post anything I'm not happy with. Bottom line is, If you are looking for someone who is capable of dishing out multiple replies every day, I'm afraid you will have to look elsewhere.

Post length: My replies typically range between 3 -10+ paragraphs depending on how inspired I feel, how much I am given to work with, or what is happening in the roleplay. Though I believe in quality over quantity. There's no need to write an essay if it's filled with pointless sentences that doesn't move the story forward. Less is sometimes more. But I never write less than 3 paragraphs unless I am suffering from a major writer's block (in which case I will let you know)

1. This blog is low activity, meaning that my activity can ebb and flow but will generally be pretty sparse. I work a very time and sanity consuming job that, well, eats up about 80% of my week and my energy e.e but I will try to be here  as much as I can.

2. This blog is selective, and mutual’s only, a.k.a, I can be kinda choosy in regards to who I follow back, and I will only interact IC with those I follow back. If you follow me and I don’t follow you back in a few days, I’m probably not going to, sorry (unless i’m on hiatus or something in which case I’m not actively checking up on my blog or followers or anything sdfjhgsdfjghs). I generally follow back all types of blogs (canon’s/multi’s/oc’s/etc) provided I’m familiar with their fandoms and/or can see us interacting in some way. Deplorables please dni though.

REPLY SPEED/LENGTH: I can be the slowest writer in the known universe so please keep that in mind when you are writing with me. sometimes it can take me weeks, or even a month or more than that to get to replies. i know that isn’t ideal for some people, and if that puts you off from wanting to write with me i completely understand, but that’s just how my brain works. sometimes i can put things out relatively fast, but thanks to the various factors of my life, most of the time my writing frequency is sporadic and my muse for threads can ebb and flow, so [insert shrugging here] that just how it be.

When it comes to reply length, i’m a big quality over quantity person. I literally do not care how big or small your reply is so long as you show enthusiasm and give me enough to work with when it comes to my response. likewise, i’d ask that you don’t hold me to any certain ‘quantity’ when it comes to my writing. i’ll make an attempt to match your length, but at the end of the day, i might not always be able to do that. i will, however, make sure to give you something to work with, instead of leaving the metaphorical ‘ball’ in your court all the time.

6. NSFW?: I don’t expect a ton of sexual-esque NSFW stuff to happen on this blog, but with some muses I suppose it is more likely. NSFW of any kind will of course be tagged accordingly, and put under readmores, but as far as hard-core smut goes, I do not see myself ever publicly writing that, so situations of that nature on the dash, if they do occur, will likely be taken down the ‘fade to black’ route.

7. SHIPPING? Shipping is not a huge priority for me, outside of the ships I have with my GF’s muses. That said, I am potentially open to shipping some muses in certain circumstances (with good ic chemistry, and proper ooc communication being paramount for such things), but we'll have to see how that goes.

You ever struggle with the feeling of wanting feedback on your work but also if there's a lot of feedback or cries for more you freeze up on actually making more? (And if you do how do you handle it?)

Feedback was an interesting thing to deal with with Bio Imp, since I haven’t written anything so long-running, like, ever. And so it was a new experience receiving feedback for a work in progress.

A lot of it wasn’t even mean to be “feedback” by my definition of the word, and some wasn’t even directed at me. Like, I was on /u/ once and saw people talking about how they thought Moira would eventually go evil, something that was common in some of the early chapters, especially when Moira was being very flighty/dodgy early-on. 

And it made me really nervous to push forward. If that’s what everyone wanted, shouldn’t I give it to them? I mean, if that’s what people are reading into it, if I don’t do it, won’t it by definition seem “OOC” to the readers? 

Then other topics of feedback that made me really wary about how I approached things. While no one specifically put into words what their concerns were, I heard inklings of people disliking how I handled gender roles/identity, and that gave me some pause.

So that was really where “feedback” tripped me up for Biological Imperative was that it made me second-guess the story I’d planned a lot, made me feel beholden to other people’s expectations of the story and my writing. At one point I actually “decided” to stop updating publicly and only share chapters with close friends in the fandom because I was going so out of my mind trying to consider the wants of others. (We can see that obviously didn’t happen, though, because I wanted everyone who enjoyed it to keep being able to enjoy it!)

But I wanted feedback, absolutely. I mean, we say we create for ourselves, but let’s be real, we put it into the public sphere to share with others. We do want others to see it, so while we not create predominantly for others, we do obviously consider others to some degree. And I love love love getting comments. From “I like this” to multi-paragraph comments about why something resonated, I love it all. (Though I love the multi-paragraph stuff most! :D )

So I absolutely struggle with wanting feedback vs. maybe not being able to “handle” it well because of pressures it may put on me. Not so much regarding update frequency, though. Reason being that I know that if I’m updating because I feel obligated/pressured to and not because I want to, I’m going to cut corners and I’m going to put out something I’m not proud of. If I don’t feel the desire to put something out, I don’t put it out. Quality > quantity, ya know? (Some of my Bio Imp chapters were rushed and they happen to be the ones I most cringe at reading/dislike.) 

Any time feedback, interaction with others, etc. makes me feel not-the-best, either because it’s negative feedback or positive-but-pressuring feedback or anything like that, I just step away for a bit and remind myself why I’m creating. It’s to share the story I envision, so anything that would prevent me from doing that (pressure causing me to rush chapters, feedback causing me to change plot points to fit viewer expectations, etc.) needs to be carefully considered. I love the feedback, and I love getting it. That doesn’t mean I have to let it change the way I’m doing things, ya know?
