So I'm rewatching camp cretaceous (because of chaos theory) and having taught ~18-20 year olds for 2 years now the most unbelievable part of the first series is that a kid of that age would know how to use a computer well enough to navigate folders on a computer

Let me have this one old person rant:

nothing makes me sadder for today's teens than knowing that they don't have something like goth fashion to piss of their parents. like sure, they can wear black and everything, but heavy metal was IN in the early aughts. There was a CULTURE in that era surrounding the goth lifestyle. They even put that shit into movies. It truly felt like a giant fuck you to the establishment and your parents and now it's just pop music and the 999th "core" style that's popular on tiktok that fades in like 2 weeks.

Also, the young people who try to imitate it on tiktok don't get it because they've got perfect beats with contouring. My good bitch, you owned ONE eyeliner pencil in 2005, and that's it. You couldn't afford $100 in make-up as a teenager. You didn't have to look good for social media, you just had to scare your teachers. You couldn't get black lipstick except at Hot Topic, so often you went without. Your make-up options were between what shitty makeup Hot Topic sold and the Wet n' Wild shit you bought at Dollar General.

Everything about 2005 sucked donkey ass, but i think it was the best time for "rebellious teen" fashion because social media wasn't yet a thing so it was mostly just about making your parents mad and bonding with other weird goth kids in your school. Also, the music still goes hard.

i feel like one of the biggest things the "all breakbeat hardcore can be called breakcore" crowd misses is that a lot of classic 2000s breakcore is fucking obnoxious as hell and that's part of what made it What It Was. it's not just like "rainbow scenecore" obnoxious, but "earsplitting noise kicks" obnoxious, "constantly interrupting itself before it reaches any peak" obnoxious, "these samples are too inappropriate to play out loud" obnoxious. it's a genre of irreverence and we love it for that

we say son of a bitch a lot in america. but have yall not noticed that when its said, its almost always used as like an exclamation for dropping something or stubbing your toe? and we very very very rarely say it as a direct insult to someone in arguments? because its very rude and uncomfortable to insult someones parent to their face ESPECIALLY as a way to insult the person youre talking too. thats uncomfortable even in english!

like maybe yall are barbaric in the north and dont care about respecting parents but like? my southern ass could Never. i gotta know someone really well for like 3 years before i even THINK about calling them a son of a bitch as a joke. let alone as an insult in an argument be it serious or play fighting, because that phrase has weight and implications. thats not something u toss lightly
