speaking of first date discourse like dinner (and a movie) has been the classic first date for like a century basically. and for good reason. the movie helps break the ice - you can enjoy each other’s company initially, then have something right off the bat to talk about at dinner. but even dinner alone - you’re facing each other with minimal distractions, but in a very public place. it’s a perfect environment for talking and getting to know the other person, but pressure is taken off because eating and drinking inherently requires periods of silence. the act of purveying the menu and ordering itself promotes conversation, as does the ambience and the location of the restaurant itself. and then there’s a third party (the waiter) that can also be a topic of conversation but who more importantly is always reappearing, which further takes pressure off. then, if you’re really hitting it off, you can order dessert. post-meal coffee is a cultural norm in some places as well. and then if you’re still wanting to spend time together you can go for a walk (another cultural norm in many places). and it’s nighttime so if you want to have sex, it’s easier to segue…..it’s a classic for a reason………
