Summary of some answers from today's Q&A with Ron Corcillo!

Bullet points are below the cut, since it's a pretty long list! Some combine multiple answers, and they're categorized for ease of reading (obviously not every single answer is included, but I tried to get most of the ones I thought people might find interesting!)

Apocalyptic Future

The turtles were fighting side by side with Cassandra when Casey Jr was born, and Leo trained him to be a warrior. Casey Jr only has brief memories of his mother from when he was very young, and he was mostly raised by Leo.

The chips on Leo's plastron are probably battle scars.

Mikey was likely the equivalent of being in his 70's. He was powerful enough that he could unlock almost any mystic ability you could think of, but using them took a toll on him physically. The more powerful the ninpo, the more potential it has to sap your energy.

Mikey can open up portals through all of space and time (as opposed to Leo, who can mostly portal over relatively short distances), but it took him a long time to get to that level of ability.

Mikey probably grew a little taller than seen in the movie, but shrank as the use of his powers depleted him. Donnie would be slightly taller than Leo, and Raph would be at least 6'6".

The characters have obviously taken hits and lost some things from years of fighting the Krang, but Leo still does have his ninpo.

They never worked out the specifics for how Raph and Donnie died, just that they lost their lives in the war against the Krang.

Future Leo was mortally wounded in his bleeding side, and that was why he didn't go with Casey to the past.

If season 2 hadn't been cut short

The sudden declaration of Leo as leader wouldn't have happened, and was more of a joke because of how abruptly the show ended. The original plan was for the transition to be drawn out over much of season 3. Raph and Leo probably would have been co-leaders for a while, and the transfer of leadership wouldn't have caused tension since Raph would like to share the burden. There might have been some situations where Mikey or Donnie took the lead, too. Ron never saw the turtles as a group where there had to be one absolute leader.

Karai would have lived for much longer, and been training the boys in person for a number of episodes.

If there was a season 3 / plans they had for future seasons

They probably wouldn't have ever taken a dark turn with the show, but may have gotten into more of an extended plot line after the movie.

The missing sister who was Big Mama's henchperson would probably have been a very disciplined super serious ninja, to the point where she's actually funny. She was going to be named after a female artist, possibly Frida Kahlo, and the turtles would have had to win her back from Big Mama by helping her to see that she had been brainwashed as a child.

Their other missing sister was going to be trapped in another dimension for years, and might have been "a little kooky" from being there so long. The turtles would have split up to rescue their sisters, but there were no definite plans beyond that.

We would definitely see Casey Jr again. Ron would love to see a spin-off where Casey and Cassandra roam the world and fight the Krang and remnants of the Foot.

It was going to be revealed that a Krang spaceship had crashed into the back of the crying titan in the Hidden City. The ship's fuel was the source of the ooze that gives the Yokai their power, and possibly the origin of the Yokai themselves. The crashed spaceship is what drew the invasion there a thousand years ago.

Mikey's powers could have opened the door to some multiverse episodes.

We might have seen some redemption from Big Mama, but then also seen her relapse to her villainous ways.

The Rat King likely would have been the next big villain. Shredder's story is pretty resolved, so they wouldn't have gone back to him, but maybe they could have revived the dark armor. There were no existing plans for Bishop, but once the turtles became better known heroes, he could be a thorn in their side. They would have done a lot more with the Krang.

Donnie probably thinks he's much smarter than Raph, so it would have been fun to do an episode where he got to see how Raph beats him in common sense and emotional intelligence.

The turtles would probably talk to Karai's Hamato spirit when they need guidance.

Season 3 would pick up where the movie left off. They would have launched a new story right away, but the aftermath would have been in the background. We would have seen how they changed as a result of the movie events, as well as how they deal with now being in the public eye as heroes.

Miscellaneous

The 2012 series was very traditional TMNT, so a big goal of Rise was to mix things up. Making Raph the leader opened up a lot of possibilities for both Leo and Raph: Raph didn't have to be angry all the time about not being the leader, and Leo was free to be cocky and fun-loving. It was a breath of fresh air for writers who had done previous TMNT versions.

As for how the turtles take after Yoshi: Donnie got a lot of his cockiness from him, as did Leo. Mikey senses that Yoshi misses his family, and that's part of the reason he always tries to hold the family together. Raph got his courage and sense of duty from him.

For Halloween, Raph would be a kitten, Mikey would be a lion, Leo would be a rock star, and Donnie would be J. Robert Oppenheimer.

Raph's favorite music is R&B, Leo's is glam rock, Donnie's is techno, and Mikey likes boy bands.

When asked about the turtles "favorite" brothers (obviously they all love each other): Mikey is Raph's favorite. As much as Leo gives Donnie a hard time, he really likes him. Ultimately, the three younger brothers all really look up to Raph.

The turtles all had their mystic powers inherently, but they didn't know it and couldn't unlock them without a little boost. Their mystic weapons acted as a conduit.

Splinter has a lot of power that hasn't been revealed, and there's a good chance he can do anything the boys can do if he really tries (which is how he could use Leo's portals). Their powers all would have grown and expanded over time.

Ron really likes fanart of the turtles, Splinter, and April in emotional family situations, as that is the heart of the show.

They didn't really get into romance in the show, but fans are free to use their imagination.

Hueso would never admit it, but he and Leo do have a close friendship.

While Ron doesn't think the show will be brought back any time soon since Nick's focus is on Mutant Mayhem (which he thinks Rise fans will enjoy, since they seem to have a lot in common), he does think it could be brought back further down the road. The most helpful thing is fans' continued support through watching, posting, and spreading the word!

Namor is an ambitious person in all ways of life. He is knowledgeable of his power and how he will use it.

You were an inhabitant of what he calls the "surface world" when he first laid eyes on you. He has always been hostile towards full on humans but you weren't like the ones he saw all those years ago.

With his ability to visit the surface world, he'd come and visit you. Cradling your face in his hands and whispering sweet nothings.

One of the many things Namor adored about you was your effort to make him as comfortable as possible. Despite his title as a god and the ruler of Talocan.

You of course found the wings on his ankles a bit out of the ordinary but you never knew you were talking to the ruler of Talocan and a god, you didn't even know what Talocan was itself. Not until he eventually showed and told you.

Being the subject of the Feathered Serpent God's love comes with a whole other package. People from nearby villages would witness Namor's silhouette going towards another figure as if they were familiar with each other. And with that, rumors within their communities would spread.

As you saw throughout the movie, he's ambitious with his wants and his need to protect his people. Many would describe him as unhinged but he shows this side with good reason.

Nothing will stop Namor from causing almost unreasonable havoc on the livelihood of someone that caused you great pain, destroying the people around that person as well.

Just for great measure.

Being Namor's great love includes him telling you stories of the pain he's witnessed and caused. He'll also show you the artwork he's created on the walls of his cave, even showing you art he's created of you.

When the time comes for you to visit Talocan, which happens quite quickly, Namor wants to be as careful as he can with you.

You're human, incapable of breathing underneath the ocean let alone in the area as deep as where he and his people reside.

When you're taken to his home, you're provided with a suit in your favor. Namor leading you throughout every single curve of the cave with his hands on the harsh material of the suit.

When his people see you, they're shocked, obviously. But he talks to them with great reasoning as to why he brought you here. Eventually, they all warm up to you and your antics. They develop tendencies towards you aswell.

I mean, come on! Their ruler has intense urges to protect you and will do so in a second, it'll inevitably rub off on them.

Namor will find a way to have you be with him in Talocan at all times. Maybe trying to find the plant. Asking Shuri for assistance and if she can try and print a replica of it.

Namor is an incredibly loving man. It's shown with how he talks to those around him, with great care and urgency to figure out how they were hurt. He'll never let anyone that has caused you harm go free in any way.

You're blessed with the way he smiles at you as you awake in your shared bed, how he holds you, how he gently presses his forehead against yours.

You never expected this to happen but you would never turn a blind eye against how grateful you are for him.

If anything were to happen to you, he's quite obviously not against making every surface dweller suffer.

claudia + louis

when i think back to the book and the movie claudia was obviously an extremely important turning point in louis' life but it never felt like she was... the center of it you know? despite the fact that she was that glue that kept louis tethered to anything human in him.

but the book felt like he was just telling his story to be a. Sad pathetic man thing for the sake of it. cause he had no purpose to exist alone. to exist without claudia or lestat (or armand but their dynamic is. different and dicier) but after claudia is killed something about her presence and the years she spent with louis while alive felt... shrugged off in a way? and its likely because she didn't really have much of an identity outside of him and lestat which is understandable because she was significantly more vulnerable in the book than in the show, so she lacked that autonomy to have that choice to exist outside of them.

and when madeleine was brought into the picture for her to get that autonomy it was unfortunately already too late...

theres a few things i want to mention. just thoughts in my head. claudia dies fighting HARD for her autonomy as a person and a vampire. in comparison to louis who in all honesty has (DEBATABLY) lived without a shred of having his own autonomy. with lestat, lestats love (as claudia very smartly puts it) keeps him in a box. louis is financially dependent on him as a black man in the jim crow era once he loses the azalea, hes cut off from his family, he has NO ONE.

the brief time of just him and claudia is a good moment in time for both of them , trying to discover vampiric history together(tho in the show it looks like before they get to paris its gonna be absolute dogshit in comparison to the book), but in louis' case i feel like its guided by guilt and some form of obligation, because if he didnt go with claudia–who was already set to do this traveling alone before lestat dragged her back–where WOULD he have gone? stayed in new orleans with lestat in the dump just waiting to crawl out? i think he would sooner kill himself if he was left alone like that.

with armand…………… loumand is definitely better than loustat in extremely complex ways that i cant put into words right now but simultaneously even worse because of HOW armand preys on louis. there is absolutely love between them and i wont deny it but armand is so INSANELY dependent on the love of others to give meaning to his existence that he leverages louis' weaknesses and frailities to ensure that they will spend an eternity together. like he was plotting from the second he met louis and claudia. he kills claudia and madeleine, which then makes louis kill all the other vampires of the coven, so that there is no one left, NO ONE for louis to be able to turn to for solace.

i think that him remembering what actually happened to him up until the present is so important to him because he'll finally be able to realize that he hasnt been allowed to properly exist for himself the entire duration of him being a vampire. and maybe he can decide what he wants to do, for himself.

I know ppl are excited for armandaniel and devils minion but Im not..going to lie ive been REALLY skeptical of it and how it would be explored in the context of the show without severely wronging louis and doing him EXTREMELY dirty.

people are allowed to like it in the bubble of the books but theres a really big shift in dynamic for the show in the fact that ... armand has definitely done... Something to daniel and louis, of what i cant say. but with the way that things are going, an ending in which daniel sides with armand after finding out exactly what armand did to louis and claudia in paris does NOT sit well with me?

I feel like daniel now is wise enough to not chase after a guy who is diabolically selfish and broken and leave louis behind to live out the vampire fantasy dreams of his youth. and in the trailer too im getting. had to start with the king of kaching himself. Obviously he posts frequently to badegg, most of his time on his yt chamnels goes to his music, but he'd start badegg_games as a little side thing and react to horror games he really likes, which gets peoples attention. he puts links to the original badegg in his descriptions which leads to more people finding his music. how much more? you decide. he also collabs pretty frequently with ricky, and brings other choir members on sometimes. his backgroud is just his room, maybe with some extra lighting. he edits his own videos and they are exactly how you'd expect them to be.

he absolutely has a gaming channel. he might stream as well. he's played every single fnaf fangame, including all the dating sims. hes also played onlycans. that one got age-restricted. any niche game he finds he makes a video on it. he uses text to speech in his videos, most of the time in post production so he doesn't have to type as he plays, and adds big subtitles. he also has a complete timeline of zolarian history. mischa and him collab pretty frequently, often playing multiplayer horror games together. he spends a lot of time on his video borders, and his channel logo is very fun and colourful. his cats show up very frequently in his videos, and when its something he doesn't think will jumpscare him, they're often sat on his lap as he plays. rpgs and sci-fi are some of the main types of games he plays, but theres a big variety. his channel name is linked to cats, zolar, or both.

ocean

she is freesciencelessons, but for every single subject. she is the only reason anyone is passing anything. she started it as either some extra credit project or as a way to revise, but people started following her and she actually quite liked making the videos, so she kept going. she doesn't bring other people onto her channel very often. her videos range from ten minutes to half an hour, depending on the subject, and shes very thorough. if its on any type of standardized test, ocean has made a video on it. she makes props for her videos and asks penny or ricky to animate things for her sometimes. her channel name is something simple like rosenbergrevision or something.

constance

did anyone watch quake n bakes? because that is what she'd do. shed post themed tutorials on how to bake different things. if it was a choir member's birthday, shed make them a themed treat and give it to them in the recording (if they were ok w it). her most popular tutorial/recipe were these 3D minecraft mob marshmallows she made for ricky, but her personal favourite are these little rose-shaped meringue cookies. sometimes she posts sewing videos as well, or little arts and crafts videos. she also promotes the cafe or makes cafe vlogs, but not often. her set up is pretty aesthetic and neat, but nothing extremely fancy. her intro is. short but sweet and she. has a little logo. her channel name is smthn like blackwoodbakes or connie'skitchen.

noel

he started making videos about poetry and film history and french cinema just to talk about them really. it was a passion project, he wasn't really too bothered about how many people saw it. he put work into it because he liked it, and he's haply with the followers he has. his videos are really long, and he goes super in depth. and then, he loses a bet to someone in the choir, and makes one of those "i watched _____ so you didn't have to" videos about some rlly bad movie that everybody takes the piss out of (think after or something). im picturing him with like a wine glass in hand making quips about whatever scene is on. it gets so many more views than his other videos. he's absolutely livid. but he makes more bcs people genuinely seemed to like the video. his dramatics and insults were quite interesting to watch, and soon its a pretty regular thing (if regular means once every four months). he still mostly makes his videos on things he likes, though. also, he managed to rope ocean into watching some horrible basic film with him and people like their dynamic, oddly enough. on halloween he reacts to horror movies with mischa. his channel name is something serious and probably ties into france somehow.

penny

shes a faceless youtuber and she has a pretty wide variety of videos. she used to be a stan acct for johnny moon before legoland, and she had to post a video on why what she did was wrong as community service. that one got a lot of views. she has a lot of art tips and speedpaints, as well as a lot of vlogs and a draw my life. she has a lot of videos about different types of music as well. her username has something to do with jane doe, she thought abt it because shes faceless and doesnt show her identity online and thought it was a fun idea. her set up is pretty basic, but its nice, and ezra's voice features in a lot of videos. the other choir members don't normally appear on her channel, but she, ricky and constance did an art challenge once.

So I saw Halloween ends a couple days ago, but I wanted to wait until others saw it to make an option...

Spoilers under cut.

Honestly... Such a disappointment. I almost left the theater.

I was expecting us to get answers to questions left in Halloween kills; Why does he kill? Why is he so obsessed with standing in his sister's window? Why is he so powerful and unstoppable?

Halloween Kills is the reason Ends is so disappointing. Kills set so much up and put Michael on such a pedestal. He was an unstoppable force of evil, able to kill a whole mob by himself while taking a lot of attacks with no problem.

In Ends? Hell, not even to talk about his death scene yet, (which I will), but Michael is barely IN this movie. He's got maybe 10 minutes of screen time in this movie.

Instead, Corey takes the screen time. I'm not mad about this, Corey is an interesting character, and seeing him turned into a killer by the town was an interesting concept.

But it's not what Ends was supposed to be. It was supposed to be Michael and Laurie's final show down. Their last brawl, to settle it once and for all. It's not that, though. It's only included in the last 20 minutes because the writers remembered that was supposed to be here in the film. Such an anticlimatic end to thia 40 year long rivalry.

I also don't understand why they gave Corey and Michael some sort of teacher and student relationship. Michael has never done this before, sparing someone, let alone keeping them around ans showing them how to kill. It makes absolutely no sense. It feels like someone put their OC in the Halloween Universe to run around with Michael Myers.

And that scene in the sewer, with Michael losing his mask? I have massive problems with that.

How is it Michael can kill a whole unit of firefighters, a mob of people with weapons, but lost a wrestle with Corey? I get they're trying to show that Michael is a lot frailer and weaker after these 4 years, but he certainly looked fine killing that woman in the doctor's house, and he was just fine beating Laurie around. No, it's just a horrible scene, and completely destroys what Kills made.

That brings me to his death. Michael Myers is an infamous character known for taking 6 shots and living, surving being burnt alive, taking a whole mob of gun fire and surving, he took 5 shots and countless beatings in the mob scene... It's obvious he's hard to kill.

So why the hell did they think the solution was just to cut his arteries? That's not fun, nor is it a satisfying end to this infamous slasher. It's borderline disrespectful. Such a terrible way to kill him off. Letting him just bleed out? No, I wanted to see him and Laurie go out in a blaze of glory. But no, we didn't get that. It honestly felt like Michael just wanted to die and escape this movie. (Don't blame you, dude.)

I would have liked to see a more Freddy vs Jason approach to this final fight. Obviously not to the same degree of violence, but make these characters fight. Let them stab each other. Let Laurie go for the eyes. Let Michael put her hand in the garbage disposal. (Wasted potential) Not just a lot of throwing around and hitting heads against things. That's not fun, it's boring. It's not what this final battle needed.

The only praise I can give this movie is that scene with Corey. When Alison arrived home, and he stabs himself in the throat because he wants Laurie to look like the killer. That was great, and could've lead to something good. If it wasn't immediately forgotten about five minutes later.

Also, this movie tries to develop a relationship with Corey and Alison. It might have worked, if this movie wasn't horribly written. The script jumps around the entire movie, and I can't tell if it's been a day or if a few days have passed. I think only three days have passed, and Alison is already having sex with Corey and saying she'll run away with him.

What?

Also, every single person in Haddonfield is just insufferable. From people on the street blaming Laurie for Michael's attacks, Corey being harrased by high-school kids, snobby co workers who practically slut shame you... Haddonfield is a horrible place to live. I get why Michael stabs everyone here.

These problems, along with the previously stated just makes this movie miserable to watch. Watching this movie is like getting a sandwich that's just two pieces of bread. It's got nothing. Not even good kills. There's only one I'd point out, the one where the guy gets his tongue cut off. But that's it.

This whole movie was just disappointing. Such a horrible end to a decent pair of movies. I loved 2018 and Kills, I thought they were great despite their flaws. A breath of fresh air for the Halloween series it desperately needed. Ends just ruins it for me.

So yeah, those are my thoughts on this film. Sorry to anyone who enjoyed the film, you're free to have your opinion on it, and I'm glad you did enjoy it if tou did! I did not though, so I will not be acknowledging this movie much aside from this. It's going in my top five worst Halloween films.

I was wondering what inspired you to have Mimiko and Choso interact in Werewolf?

They are two characters I would never thought would interact, but I absolutely love their interactions and friendship throughout the fic. It’s like the Nanako-Mimiko-Junpei friendship that I deeply love!

Is one the reasonings is to give Choso a sort of found family?

Sure, I can give you a peek into my chaotic story planning process. So, as I've said previously before I even start a fic I jot all my ideas on paper. Basically just scenes I think would be cool or things I want to happen in the story. Brainstorming is obviously different than an outline though because you can't shove every single idea you have into a story, otherwise the story will be too long.

So in the outlines I try to be as efficient (read: lazy) and cut scenes and characters down, basically how can I tell the story in as few scenes as possible (every scene I cut I don't have to write, which saves me a lot of work yay!)

Werewolf and its prequel Three's Company basically started with the thought "I don't have a lot of female characters in my fic, I should write some more female focus fics." Then, Werewolf became "The Mai Fic". It didn't really materialize until I watched the Fear Street Trilogy, and the second movie ended on a shot of two sisters who were complete opposites and spent all their time fighting with each other spending their final moments reaching out for one another. All the chapters in Werewolf are named from tracks on the Fear Street soundtrack because of that inspiration. So basically it goes Ideas -> Characters -> Scenes -> Exposition and in between parts.

The plan was always to include Choso in the fic, because of two reasons number one Nobara never really had to face the fact she murdered Choso's brothers and felt very little guilt about it unlike Yuji, and second it's timeline wise takes place right after Origin of Obedience. Also, since my previous fic Butterfly Curve took a deeper look at Mahito, I wanted to feature Choso in a fic. The idea of making Noranso the main antagonist literally came from my friend going "It's kind of lame Choso has six other brothers but we're never going to meet them because Gege doesn't think they're important."

In my original draft for Choso's involvement in the story he was not going to spend time with Mimiko at all. The first plan was that Choso, Mahito, and the curse spirit Non/Not-Mai would all be visiting the village together and act as a secondary antagonist to Noranso. This idea got axed for two reasons, one it would be a pain to write three characters every time that trio was onscreen, number two I couldn't come up with a good enough explanation for why Non was still alivein some form after the end of the Junpei fic because that was sort of her final hurrah.

The next idea was to have Mahito and Choso together, to contrast their different beliefs of what a cursed spirit is, and what humans are. Mahito considers himself a "true" cursed spirit and despises humanity and human values, whereas Choso is ambiguous on whether he's human or a curse, neutral to humanity, and values his connections to his brothers in a really humanlike way. This idea got cut because I like Mahito. No, I really like Mahito. I know everyone hates Mahito, but that's exactly what I like about him. I wanted to make Choso the focus of this fic, the same way Mahito was the focus of my "Butterfly Curve" fic, but if I shoved Mahito into this one I knew he would take focus away from Choso. So I cut Mahito.

The third idea was to send in Choso alone, but I thought we already kind of had a scene like that in Shibuya, we saw Choso revenge driven and alone and fighting against Yuji. I didn't want to just copy that scene exactly but with Nobara instead of Yuji. So from then on I needed two criteria for Choso's inclusion in the fic, 1) it had to be someone he played off of well, 2) someone who wouldn't draw attention away from him.

That's when I decided to throw Mimiko in. Number one because I have used Mimiko and Nanako as a pair of twins to contrast Maki and Mai's relationship before. Mimiko being the weaker sibling between the two, needing Nanako to boss her around and make all her decisions for her resembling Mai always needing to be protected by Maki when they grow up together. Mimiko and Choso also resemble each other, they're both really morose, quiet, they're kind of broody outwardly, while hiding deeper emotions inside themselves.

Then I realized there was a deeper connection there, because Choso and Mimiko are both entirely codependent on their blood siblings. They were both abandoned by their parents so their blood siblings makes up their entire connection to the world around them, Mimiko and Nanako pretend they're the same person divided into two bodies so they won't ever lose the connection they have as siblings, and despite how much Choso genuinely cares about his siblings he's also like kind of delusional about his family like he imagines them in his head constantly cheering on big bro and imagines a more wholesome family than he really is. For example, Yuji is kind of neutral on Choso though he shows him some affection whereas Choso would die for Yuji in an instant.

So my idea was to have these two characters interact to show you can move away from blood family as the only family you're ever going to have. Mimiko has already taken the first step in this. After losing Geto her and Nanako thought there was no one else in the world who would take care of them, but then Michi made taking care of Mimiko and Nanako his only priority, and they were able to befriend Junpei which showed they can make connections with people outside of their closed off little family. The idea was also to continue Mimiko and Nanako's arcs from previous fics by having Mimiko just learn to function on her own by going solo the whole fic. Therefore to show this slight change in Mimiko's thinking, number one she goes out of her way to do something kind for Choso in their very first interaction because 1) she notices how much Choso is suffering from the loss of his siblings, and 2) she understands that loss because number one if she were to lose Nanako it would destroy her, and two she lost Geto who was the most important person to her besides Nanako.

Choso is in the middle of what is basically a desire for murder-suicide against the two people who killed his brothers because he believes he cannot live past the loss of them, and that was something Mimiko once belived that she couldn't go on without Geto and yet she made new connections to Michi and Junpei. Therefore when Choso has his big moment of attempting that revenge against Nobara that he's willing to die right then and there fore, it's Mimiko who pulls him back from the edge and literally heals him with RCT.

I also wanted to write a fic more focused on Choso's mourning of his brothers, because that was essentially kind of skipped over because he focused more on revenge than feeling his sadness at the loss of them, so in this fic Choso is essentially called upon to feel his sadness around someone like Mimiko who understands his loss. Mimiko realizes that Choso may act like the oldest brother, but deep down he's just a crybaby.

The Archer Archetype in Media

Random shitpost of the moment for me- okay so I just recently watched the DC tv show crossovers, and really got fixed on how there seems to be like an archer-type (I will see myself out) character in a lot of fandoms.

So I guess what I'm saying is that I would love to see a giant crossover of just those characters. Obviously I don't know every single one, but like can you just imagine the content between all of them. If they all did interact.

The Blackening (2022)

Sink Spoilers for the Blackening (2022)

I'm gonna start with the nessesary disclaimer that I am not black. I have multiple black family members and my family is a bit of a melting pot of white, black, Latino and native Americans so I have a little more social consciousness of black experiences than the average non-black person but obviously not the full experience. The only person I can semi-relate to is Allison but that's just because we are both mixed and one parent is white (mine is wp and mixed but you get the jist).

I went into this movie with high expectations. I've seen many people praise the movie but looking back on that praise, it's only really been from a few black talents on or related to the movie and a bunch of white people who spoke like they hadn't really seen it. From my memory, alot of more progressive sites praised the movie ahead of its release, multiple famous black influencers and celebrities showed excitement for the movie and it didn't have too too much push back from the usual racist white people who think any criticism of racism and movies specifically made for people other than them. It was there however and I did see it in reviews prior to seeing the movie. I heard some people saying it was gonna be the next get out (an amazing film that should get a review here soon-) and that with all the black comedy talent on the film, it was set up to be a hilarious spoof.

Have you ever had a big calzone where you took a bite, ready for it all that amazing juicy cheesy filling and fresh pepperoni only to find the pastry is mostly just a ton of empty air with a very small layer of burnt cheese and stiff pepperoni on the bottom? That's this movie. Alot of talk and build up but no substance. No soul. The movie felt empty and hollow and I really don't know how else to phrase it. It never really hit the basic target for me and thus everything that would have probably hit, just completely missed. It felt empty, running of its message being hamfited alone. I want to be very clear, I'm not the kind of person who dismisses important messages and thinks all direct and non-subtle language about important social issues is inherently cringey or forced or "pushing an agenda". I'm a very progressive individual and I agree that sometimes the message just needs to be said and forced home. Where Get out amazingly weaved the topic of racism with well thought out and well weaved subtle nods that made the harsh direct jabs hit that much harder, the blackening spent so long tripping over its messaging it was chronically falling over itself. Forced jab after forced jab of political messaging being pushed out in unnatural settings and ways and said with language that didn't feel natural or realistic doesn't "force your audience to reckon with its own biases and listen to reality said from the victims themselves", it feels like your being lectured at and assume your audience is too stupid to actually get what you mean.

Obviously not all of the messaging the movie tried to include was handed to us in this terrible way, there were a few points where it felt natural and honest, but for the most part, it was all just too constant and too forced. It felt like the movie wanted to touch up on every single black experience and anti-racist sediment it possibly could but in doing so, very important messages were sequestered to a single off-handed sentence and sent out in nearly rapid fire ways at break neck speeds that I felt like I was constantly walking into poles the whole film. None of the topics the movie touched were nessesarily new to me personally but I think part of the issue of this movie and what it was trying to attempt can be pointed to its attempt at being just a little too far into comedy.

The blackening is a spoof, Ik what spoofs are and I can absolutely see the influences of saw, cabin in the woods and especially scary movie. The cast is entirely made of comedians and yet, I rarely laughed. It's not that they weren't trying to be funny but they were all trying to hard to be funny, like they were all fighting for the main character spotlight when Lisa is the main character and sometimes her personality was as flat as paper. I won't over exaggerate, there were a fair amount of times this movie made me laugh but you can absolutely see the influence of it being made by some of the same people who made girls trip. It's slap stick fundamentally immature attempts at adult humor and even though this movie was definitely improved by it not including unending pee jokes, I won't lie and say that brand of comedy is remotely funny, even in a horror context. This movie is rated R but this brand of comedy would do leagues better in pg-13. Only certain brands of comedy really fit into the horror genre and this... Really doesn't. It takes all the horror out of your horror movie.

Here's where I have to say that because it's comedy was so slapstickian and immature for its nearly mature rating, it misses that target audience and most adults, especially fans of the infamously mature rated horror genre, dont find it funny when a character rubs some mud on their face and makes stupid noises when they punch a bad guy to death. When I watched the movie, the first half was ok but I was hoping the second half would be where the real meat and potatoes were only to finish the movie wishing I could go back to the first half. It just kept getting less and less and less interesting, funny and scary. Hell, I wouldn't even call this a horror movie honestly, almost zero scary moments. The only thing I can remotely compare it to is Beetlejuice, being horror based but pretty much only a comedy but to be honest, this movie isn't worthy being compared to the masterful humor that's in Beetlejuice.

If I were to say to a white audience of adult fans of horror what this movie felt like, it felt like if Adam Sandler made a horror movie with the cast of grown ups but made it somehow even less funny. I, like many horror fans, would groan and leave. Another part that soured this movie for me was the ending. It kind of fell into its own trap, that being the accusation of self-vicitimization. By making the big bad another black person who hired white supremacists to make the all black group scared and assume the usual suspect you fall into the ever present allegation that the only people who truly hate black people are other black people and it's not true. It's like when people take the " insanely homophobic preacher whose actually just gay and repressed" to the extreme. In its attempt to feel real about whose most likely to hurt black people but also again, desperate to shove in every single community related important take, point out how black people hurt other black people, you made your villain a black man with " bad opinions" (bigotry but lets be real, this movie barely knows what that word really means sometimes.) hurting other black people instead of the usual racist white person. When you conflate the ally with the enemy in a movie about such a serious selection of topics and add a bunch of humor on top of it, you might as well throw out the dead baby in the rotted bath water. You litterally invalidated your own messaging.

My final piece of contempt in the fact that not one but multiple talents on this film claimed it sunk because of racism. On one hand, they are fair to point out the fact that many people never saw it due to disinterest and racism. This movie got a lot of unnessesary shit before it even came out but. BUT! These complaints were said after the movie came out. After many people saw it and rightly pointed out it's shittiness from just an entertainment standpoint. As a native, I can both say a native centered movie has important topics that shouldnt be brushed aside and some criticism is because it's native centered and not white centered but I can, as a critic, also say the movie sucks from an entertainment standpoint. I heard a few times that " if grown ups can exist for white people as a shitty movie with bad comedy but a few good laughs then why can't black people have black centered movies that are shit with a few good gags without people immediately going on to discredit all black horror and spoofs" And there's something to be said for that.

It's not fair that people discredited this movie without seeing it and it's not fair that some people are trying to use that as a reason to never see another black centered horror or spoof. I never said it was fair. I will however, as a critic, criticize bad movies. Every bad movie deserves to get shit for being bad and bigots will be bigots regardless. I'm sorry but your movie dosen't get special privileges and if equality and equity is what we're all after, this negative review is rated E for everyone. It's a bad movie both in its style, choices, humor and way of delivering it's incredibly important messaging and no, it shouldnt be held to the same light that is masterpieces of black horror like scary movie, haunted house, get out and many more.

I give this movie a 3 out of 10 sinks. I didn't like it, it felt soulless and corporate, it failed to properly deliver it's important topics and the comedy almost never hits. There are plenty of better movies if you want your fix of funny black comedy and masterful black horror. Do better.

I don't recommend this movie.

It was the usual Saturday night at Steve's. We were all sprawled on the couch and the floor. And by we, i mean the kids, Eddie, Steve, Robin and me.

The only difference from our usual movie night was, that we let Dustin pick the movie. We should have known that it was a bad idea, but we let him pick it just this once,because he was literally begging us on his knees.

So what did he pick? He picked a freaking horror movie. I tried to convince him to pick something else, i even tried bribe him, but nothing worked.

So there i was, scared as fuck, sitting next to Steve on the couch. I was trying to seem cool, that I wasn't completely shitting my pants , but i think i was failing badly. Everytime there was a jumpscare or something scary, i would jump a little as well.

"Hey, you alright?" Steve whispered in my ear.

"Yeah, i'm okay" that was obviously a big fat lie.

"You sure? Because it looks like you are going to run away from here any second now" he laughed .

"Oh shut up, that's not even a bit true"

"Really? So you actually like the movie?" he raised his eyebrows.

"Yup" well if it wasn't the most obvious lie ever than i don't know.

"Riiight" he definitely saw right through me.

"But just to be sure. Do you want me to hold your hand?" he teased me. What an ass.

"You know what Steve.." i stopped myself before i would call him something very bad, "just shut up and watch the damn movie" he could be so irritating when he wanted to be.

"Oh come on, don't be like that, i'm just joking" he gave me a smile.

"I know" i replied annoyed by him .

"Buuuuut" he started and i could see the mischief in his yes.

"Could YOU hold my hand?"

"What?" i asked a little louder than i intended.

"Can you guys shut up we are trying to watch a movie, if you hadn't noticed" Dustin spoke up and i mouthed a quick sorry to him, Steve on the other hand, showed him a finger.

"So?" he wispered in my ear again.

"So what?"

"Could you hold my hand, because i'm definitely scared of this horror" he said with a puppy eyes.

" Very funny Steve" i gave him a sarcastic laugh.

"But i'm serious, it would make me feel much better if you held my hand" he did look serious, still i didn't believe a word he said. But i played along and took his hand in mine under the blankets.

"I feel safe now, thank you" he said with a smile.

"You are an idiot" he just chuckled and continued to watch the movie.

The whole time he didn't let go of my hand. It was nice, but it was making my cheeks bright red, because i had a crush on him since forever. Of course i couldn't tell him that, we were just friends nothing more and i didn't want to ruin that.

His hand was warm in mine and it made me want to melt in the place and run away at the same time. I couldn't help but to steal a glance or two every few minutes.

Robin always told me, to tell him, that I liked him. She said, that he 100% liked me back, but i wasn't so sure. I mean he was always on a date with some girl from the town.

So after the movie ended i didn't waste a single second and tried to leave. I went to get up, but Steve's hand pulled me back in the couch. I looked at him in question.

"Can you help me clean up?" he asked with a soft smile on his face and pleading eyes. It would have been rude if i said no and it was also my turn to stay and help clean up after a movie night.

"Yeah, sure. I'll just go tell Eddie to wait for a few minutes" Eddie was driving everyone home, me included.

"He doesn’t have to, i'll drive you home, you can tell him that" Steve offered. It was probably better, because that way everybody wouldn't have to wait for me.

I went to tell the others, they could go without me, that Steve was going to drop me off. We said our goodbyes and then they left.

Robin was giving me these weird faces the whole time. She was the only one, that noticed me and Steve stealing glances throught the entire movie. She hoped, that us idiots would finally solve our shit and get together.

While we were cleaning up the mess, Steve was uncharacteristically quiet.

Even during the car ride to my house he kept quiet, barely said like 5 words. I had to ask what was up.

"Why are you so quiet? Is everything alright?" we were at my driveway, so it was the perfect time to talk.

"Steve? You still here?" i was beginning to get concerned, but he finally spoke.

" Why is this so hard? I genuinely don't why my brain just goes blank when i look at you. I think i'm going a little crazy. I-I've been trying to ask you out for a while now,but... "he stopped to take a deep breath. Meanwhile i was listening to him open-mouthed like my life depended on it.

"I guess always chickened out, but here goes nothing. So Y/N ilikeyoualotwillyougooutwithme" he blurted out and i felt like i was on a different planet. Like i was dreaming. How could Steve Harrington be asking me out.

"Steve breath. You should have asked me out sooner, you know. Because i would have said yes in a heartbeat" i said.

"Really?"

"Yes, i mean i had a crush on you since i met your stupid ass " his face brighted up, "And i'll go under one condition" i grinned at him.

"What is it?" he curiously asked

"I'll go if i get to hold your hand" he chuckled.

"It is a matter of course, i will hold your hand so much, you'll get sick of it" not possible.

"Well then, it's a deal" i giggled.

"Soo where do you wanna go ?" he was really eager to go on the date.

"You want to go now?" i asked in disbelieve.

"Yeah why not"

Keigo Takami (Hawks)

You would think Hawks would have a good relationship with birds right? Wrong.

Hawks in the eyes of birds was a bird of prey, which only means one thing, he's dangerous. This unspoken rule amongst birds who are usually weaker doesn't exclude your own pigeon.

It all started when Rumi (Mirko) decided that the group's movie night would be at your house for the first time ever. Obviously, you were rather excited, of all the times you had these movie nights they were never in your home. Another exciting reason was you couldn't wait to introduce Keigo, your lovey lover, to your budgie.

"Hey, birdie." Once you opened the door to your apartment Hawks was leaning there in front of you with a small bouquet of flowers, wearing some casual clothing. Giving a quick to your forehead, you led Hawks into your humble abode.

Your budgie, as always, flew towards you to greet the guest, like he would usually. But instead of landing on your shoulder, he instead flew around Keigo and dove to bite his ears and the exposed skin everywhere.

"So this is the friendly bird you've been telling me about???" Keigo slightly confused and panicked tried to lightly shoo away the flying menace.

You at this point didn't know whether to panic or to laugh at the situation. Your budgie was incredibly kind to everyone, even strangers you just met, and yet here he was, squawking at Keigo trying to bite him.

After a few minutes, you were able to calm your bird down, letting him rest on the crook of your neck and reassure Keigo that he was usually really kind to guests, which Keigo doesn't believe at this point. It wasn't until Rumi came knocking that you stood up to greet her.

Keigo, watched from a distance, excited to see Rumi get attacked by your menace of a bird. "What?!" He exclaimed pointing a judgemental finger at your bird who was now on Rumi's shoulder nuzzling her cheek.

"Scared of a birdie smaller than you Keigo?" Rumi's laughter mocked Keigo, and you couldn't help but let out a few giggles yourself.

"Awww love don't be like that!" You walked over to Keigo and enveloped him in a reassuring hug, still slightly giggling, "I swear I don't know why he doesn't like you."

When the movie started, you and Keigo were cuddling as usual with Rumi slightly third-wheeling, not that she really cared. Weirdly enough you felt a weird tension around you, when you looked over at Keigo, you saw he was staring at your budgie who was on Rumi's shoulder.

Both looking at each other with so much menace it made you burst into laughter. "Is there some kind of bird rivalry?????" Rumi now realizing what was happening laughed extremely loud. "Are you jealous of Y/n's BIRD???"

She teased Keigo, who in retaliation threw a pillow at her. He groaned and pulled you closer. "Whatever, but we're never having movie nights in your house again." You laughed a little before snuggling more into him, "Sure you big baby."

Rumi Usagiyama (Mirko)

"I'm telling you, that little piece of long-looking mouse stole my stuff!" Rumi yelled at you pointing an accusing finger at your ferret who was simply staring up at you her head slightly tilted as if confused about the whole ordeal.

This all started when Rumi decided to come to your apartment straight after patrol, something she's never done. She looked exhausted and in need of some comfort, so you let her in and gave her some clothes to change after showering,

When she walked in, she noticed your ferret staring at her. A weird sense of foreboding crept up onto her. She always had a slight suspicion that the creature didn't like her very much. Whether it was because she was taking up most of your play times with it, or something else, she couldn't care any less.

It was in the ferret's eyes, how they stared at her with intent and a glint of mischievousness. Though when she brought it up with you, you'd brush it off since ferrets are incredibly mischievous and smart.

But the icing on the cake was when she placed her clothes on top of a dresser, including her gloves, to take a shower. Only to come back with both of her gloves missing from the pile. The ferret looking up at her, as if challenging her.

"Rumi, love, why would she even know to hide BOTH gloves. She'd probably steal only one!!" Rumi's mouth fell agape at your statement. You were defending the THIEF???

"You said so yourself didn't you?!! Ferrets are SMART, SHE MUST'VE KNOWN." At this point it was borderline hilarious, so between your next words, you laughed and giggled.

"You probably just misplaced it, come on I'll help you search it. I'm sure we'll find it soon."

You both did not find it soon, it had actually been 30 minutes of nonstop searching. Searching your entire apartment close to twice already, you and Rumi both flopped on the couch, exhausted.

"Ok, maybe I should check her toys." Her being your ferret, you finally caved in and searched around her toys.

Low and behold.

"I TOLD YOU!!!" You found both Rumi's gloves tucked away in the long rubbery-plastic tunnel you made for your ferret.

Rumi crashed on the floor in a fit of laughter, with you holding the dirty gloves looking at your ferret rather disappointed at her. Your ferret looked up with its adorable eyes as if it had done nothing wrong.

"Your ferret's a demon I'm telling you!" Rumi wiped a tear from laughing too much.

"I'm sorry for not believing you." You said followed by an exasperated sigh. Rumi walked over to you and enveloped you in a bone-crushing hug, "It's fine, this was actually more fun than just watching random movies like we planned."

Taishiro Toyamitsu

Taishiro loves animals and animals love him. Both skinny and fat form, he's just a lovable person for every single living being. Animals, humans, plants, all of them thrive when being cared for by him. Including you, but excluding your cat.

Taishiro knew the moment you said you had a cat that he would have to work a little bit harder to get her to like him. What he didn't expect was for your cat to completely ignore him no matter what he did.

"Trying to woo her again?" You smirked a little bit when you saw him in his skinny form holding a small bag of catnip smiling rather sheepishly.

"No cat can resist catnip." He paused shortly, "Right?"

You giggled at his adorable antics, reaching up to slightly ruffle his soft hair. Inviting him you watched from afar as Taishiro approached your cat who was sunbathing near a window and, as usual, ignoring him.

He slowly approached her, his big hands slowly opening the bag. When he did, her head immediately darted at him, you stood up straighter at this. Really curious at the first time your cat acknowledged his existence.

Taishiro couldn't feel more excited at the moment and slowly got closer to her, shaking the bag slightly. Your cat's irises expanded, showing that she might be rather happy.

But just as Taishiro was about to pet her, she stretched from her position and walked calmly away from him. Ignoring him once again.

You stifled a laugh at his dejected form, shoulders slumping down and a dark aura surrounding him.

You draped your body over his back, a small attempt in hugging him, "Hey you'll get more chances, I'm sure she'll warm up to you eventually."

Taishiro looked up at you with watery eyes and a small pout, making your heart melt at the sight. "How about this? You'll get even more chances if you live with me."

Your eyebrows wiggled at him, and his slumped figure immediately brightened up. Crushing you in a tight bear hug and shaking you around. "I'll make sure your cat loves me."

Suna nodded, whilst Kita and Aran exchanged looks. “It's important to be supportive of her though. Albeit it being merely a schoolgirl crush, this could mean a lot to her.” said Kita, and his tone invited no further disagreement.

Back at home that evening, thoughts of the handsome brown haired boy could not leave your mind, and you logged onto Instagram, hoping to see if he had posted any updates.

Smiling, you typed out a comment. “No offense, but if being adorable was a crime, you'd have fine written all over you ˃ᴗ˂ ”. Yes, it was dorky, and cheesy all in one. But why not? He might not ever read it anyways, as your comment got swept underneath the hundreds of others that came after it.

Sighing, you settled down to study, with thoughts about the comment and Louis pushed out of your mind.

Meanwhile, as Louis scrolled through his comments, a single one caught his eye. She used a pickup line (how adorable) which caused his cheeks to redden. Tentatively, he surveyed her profile, before feeling the familiar sensation of having a crush, wash over him.

She was gorgeous, and although he knew he shouldn't stalk random pretty girls over the internet, he couldn't help himself. Her pictures showed her to be the manager of a club of some sort, and she was almost always posing with a teammate. A male, teammate.

But damn, that smile. Even if he felt a small pit of unfounded jealousy at the guys, her smile was enough to distract him from anything.

His fingers hovered over the "follow back" button, before he finally gave in to temptation by following her, commenting, and putting his phone away quickly, suddenly feeling like a schoolboy all over again.

That morning, before school, you could barely believe the notifications waiting for you on your phone.

Of course, after having seven mini panic attacks, and fawning over him, you set out to tell your boys at the volleyball club the good news.

And all you could think about on the way there was how Louis Patridge somehow noticed you. It was unbelievable, and somehow turned your insides to jelly.

As soon as you reached the gym, you flung yourself on Atsumu, engulfing him in a hug. “Guys I'm so happy” you managed to choke out.

Atsumu obviously enjoyed holding you, and he gently wrapped his arms around you to feel your heart beating quickly

“To what do we owe the pleasure of seeing you this early, y/n?” joked Aran.

Wordlessly, you dug into your pocket and pulled out your phone. “He thinks I'm fine. Fine means hot right? I mean, I used it meaning hot. Because he is hot. And he thinks the same of me, that's gotta be good? And the emoticon. He used the same one, he's so cu—”

But you were interrupted out of your whisper-babble by the boys' shocked faces. He noticed her? This fast? “I'm so happy for you, y/n” said Akagi cheerfully, but internally he was demotivated and sad at the prospect of you dating the young star.

Suna looked at you thoughtfully and ruffled your hair. “That's my girl. She's just as amazing and capable as those girls on the silver screen.” and although it pained him to say this, he just wanted to share your happiness.

The twins were withdrawn, and Kita congratulated you, whilst obviously feeling a bit regretful for dismissing it as a "schoolgirl crush".

In general, the boys were upset, but not surprised. If you had them all collectively whipped for you, why not a movie star?

After kissing Suna's cheek and waving the rest of the boys off, you skipped all the way to homeroom, excited to share the news with your friends.

Silence followed your absence as Aran shrugged. “So are we gonna acknowledge the elephant in the room?”

Atsumu pouted and glared at them all. “Why did he have to notice her? Was it her profile picture? I've always asked her to change it, she looks way too attractive.”

Osamu nodded and jutted his bottom lip. “I mean, we think she's the most beautiful girl in the world, and apparently other guys do too.”

“Oh God make it stop” whispered Suna. “I wish she'd just stay ours. I don't mind competing with you guys, I'm obviously better, but that actor dude? No chance.”

“We'll be supportive” reaffirmed Kita. “Above all, she's out friend and we do not own her. If this makes her happy, we won't ruin it.”. Akagi and Aran were quiet.

Ever since that day, you and Louis have been slowly but steadily growing closer and falling harder for each other.

He tried his luck by texting you, and although you were shy and tentative at first, getting to know the real him was refreshing.

And you really did like him. He was intelligent, adorable, and realistic. The two of you spent your time from dusk till' dawn talking, whether on call or on text.

And no one could deny the blossoming chemistry between yourself and Louis. He was a gentleman in every way, and his honeyed words stuck in your heart, finding its way to be replayed every time you felt down.

The boys slowly saw you drifting away. And when you weren't, it was always "Louis this—" or “Louis said—” and frankly their hearts couldn't take it anymore. It was time to give up, and love you as a friend instead.

But immersed in his attention you barely even noticed.

One day, Louis called you as you were heading home after practice. “y/n! Love, guess what?”

“aw bubs, just tell me. I hate guessing. Mostly because I suck at it.”

You could hear him chuckle on the other side of the line as he softly whispered “I'm coming to Japan on the ninth!”

“Wait, Louis. Today's the ninth.”

“I know. So are you gonna come to that bubble tea place you won't shut up about, or must I come get you?”

“You're joking”

“I'm not. I've wanted to surprise you, and I swear it was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. Which includes getting kicked by a horse on set, but nevermind about that, y/n, I want to see you, so get your arse here.”

“Coming, Lord Tewkesbury”

“I might have a kink.”

You blushed bright red at his words. “shut up oh my gosh, I'll be there.”

Louis ended the call with a small smile on his face. He knew how easily flustered you were with him and he loved it. It was just another thing on the list of all the reasons why Louis Patridge adored you to hell and back.

The whole way to the shop, your heart was pounding. So you'd finally get to meet the guy you've been dreaming about ever since you laid eyes on him in a movie.

Ever since those late night phone calls and early morning texts made your heart race and eyes sparkle with wonder.

You were finally meeting him.

The familiar sweet smell of the tea washed over you, and a familiar face waited for you at the entrance. His brown eyes looked gorgeous in the sun and his hair was tousled exactly the way you once saw in a selfie.

Wasting no time, you ran to him, pulling him to a hug. He laughed and caught you in his arms, holding you closer as your legs wrapped around his waist. No words were exchanged, just touches. There were too many words said already.

After pulling away, he gently stroked his thumb through your features. Tucking a strand aside, ruffling your hair. His hands ached to touch you, and now, finally, he could.

“You're such a dork.” was all you could whisper, afraid speaking loudly would break the spell.

“Your dork. All yours.”

“Louis!” your voice went an octave higher as the familiar warm sensation came over your cheeks, painting them a delicate pink.

“Oh God, I've always wanted to see you blush. How can you be so adorable?? Oh God.”

You whined in protest, but frankly, you were too happy to be around him to care much at all.

Tipping your chin to face him, Louis Patridge did the one thing he dreamt of doing, ever since he stalked through your Instagram profile one fateful morning.

He kissed you.

And wouldn't you know it? You kissed him back. It was warm, comforting, and everything you thought it'd be.

Meanwhile, the boys had finished cleaning up the gym, and started heading home.

“Hey guys, do you wanna go grab some bubble tea?” asked Aran. The prospect of food, or sweet things always cheered up the boys, and after a day of particularly grueling practice, it was no surprise they agreed at once.

You however, were comfortably nestled next to Louis as you swapped stories. Your hands never left each other, though. He kept stroking your palm, just to remind himself you were here, right next to him.

“So how's the volleyball club, Mrs. manager?”

“Mrs? Do I look like I'm married?” to which Louis responded with a shrug and wink.

Coincidentally, the Inarizaki boys entered the shop at that very moment, freezing in their tracks after seeing you in a booth with Louis.

“Psst. Guys. Loverboy's here.”

“Should we say hello?”

“I might cry if they kiss” whimpered Akagi.

“We need to say hello, it's the right thing to do.” said Kita sensibly, as he walked up to the two of you. “Hello y/n-san, Louis-san.” said Kita with a slight nod.

Happily, you rose from your seat and hugged the captain, thanking him for saying hi, as you introduced him to Louis.

Soon, the other boys came around and one by one, introduced themselves as well. Honestly speaking, they were jealous. How could they possibly get over someone like you? Someone as spectacular and beautiful as you? But when they saw you face shining with radiance as you smiled at Louis, and the way his hands never left yours, they understood.

And they wanted you to be happy. That was the most important thing, above all else for the both of them.

im so new to tumblr and don’t really know how to work it yet. And then I ended up in the wrong side of tumblr. And people are literally trying to manifest Eddie’s death and are calling Ryan’s acting sh*t and it’s. I’m not gonna go there again, but I’m just- I’m digging myself into a really bad hole, cause I’m already in a bad place mentally right now.

I mean, I know it’s not in the job description but can you… I don’t know. Is there any way to comfort me a little?🥺

First of all, how dare people try to manifest Eddie's death? That's truly horrible. I hope they don't mind me manifesting my foot kicking them where the sun don't shine because that's about to happen if I see any of that crap anywhere on this hellsite.

Secondly, while it's their opinion of Ryan's supposed "shitty acting" I beg to differ:

Above is Eddie's non-heart eyes, a somewhat restrained smile though he's attentive to what Ana is saying and politely engaged, but he obviously has something on his mind (even if we didn't know what was coming)

Above is Eddie's performative smile, wide but tight in some areas, still slightly restrained

Above is Eddie's sneaky (or thinks he's being sneaky anyway) heart eyes

Above is Eddie's unrestrained, happy and full of enjoyment smile (hard to see from the side but it's there) as he laughs

Above is where Chim's words hit Eddie and he realizes this may be the end for Shannon (this to me is one of my favorite scenes of Ryan's in season 2 - he absolutely did this beautifully, you can see the tears increasing in his eyes, it was that good)

And all of these examples are Ryan. This is his performance as Eddie Diaz. He said it himself, he understands the character. I'll admit that before I saw the show, I didn't know anything really about Ryan's career. I had only seen him in The Boy Next Door with Jennifer Lopez and if I'm being honest, I wasn't impressed. That's why I figured I never heard of him again in any more mainstream movies. But then when I watched this show, he absolutely took me by surprise and blew me away. I not only fell in love with the character but also his portrayal of the character. My opinion of his acting abilities only grew the more and more layers I saw that he was bringing to Eddie. Not only that but he seemed to understand Eddie in a way that made me appreciate him as an actor and wanting to see him in other roles. (same for Oliver who I had never heard of before until I saw 911, same for Aisha Hinds and Kenneth Choi and Peter Krause) Ryan has the acting chops. He may not be in an Oscar worthy role at the moment, breaking ground and starving himself to drop 50 pounds (or stuffing himself to gain them) to have this big transformation onscreen that we've seen other actors do over the years, but that doesn't take away from the role he performs or the job he does every single day on set, and does it well. Same goes for Oliver.

So for anyone to sit there and crap on Ryan's acting, again, it's their prerogative but they're wrong in saying that the man can't act. He very clearly can.

Honestly, Nonnie, I think what you came across, if I had to guess, is more of the Ryan hate that's been going around since last year. (other nonnies and I discussed this and how some people on here perceive Ryan and his views on Buddie further here & here) That it has more to do with their dislike of him based on what he said a year ago than it is his acting or the character/his story itself. I had no idea what occurred last year since I wasn't in the fandom then, but when I did finally hear of it this year, I was shocked to discover that people demanded his firing and even started petitions to have Eddie recast (which obviously didn't go anywhere). And all I could think was, I get why people are pissed, I really do, but #1) people make mistakes and they often forget to include the context of him reacting to people sending death threats to his pregnant wife at the time (not excusing what he said but like any other case, we have to take all the facts into consideration), #2) he did apologize at some point after being called out publicly by his co-workers including Oliver (so that definitely means there was a conversation between him and his people and the network/show), and #3) that recasting would be an absolute mistake and it would ring the death knell for the show. I'm not saying 911 is all about Buddie, it's definitely not, it's an ensemble cast, but if anyone thinks that one of the main draws for people to continue watching every week isn't Buddie, then they're only kidding themselves. But thankfully, the network/show seems to have worked it out. And I will say this, after 4x14, I don't see them killing Eddie off. I think if Ryan ever left the show, of his own volition or not, killing Eddie would also ring one death knell for the show. While a lot of people love Buck and Chim and the other characters, a lot of people do love Eddie's character and Christopher. Even if Buck took over as legal guardian for Christopher (to keep him in the show), whether Eddie left or died, there would always be a negative space in the scenes of Buck and Christopher, meaning no matter how hard the show might try to draw the audience's attention away from that, it wouldn't work. Who is missing from that scenario would be too loud. And Tim isn't an idiot, he knows this. So, Nonnie, don't worry. I don't see Eddie being killed off and those chuckleheads on the wrong side of Tumblr can manifest all they want, it's not happening. The only time the show could have gotten away with it (and I say this loosely and hypothetically) was when Eddie was shot in 4x13. And the show chose not to do that. Because it doesn't make sense to the story they're telling, just as a general rule of good story telling. So good luck manifesting that, idiots.

As far as Tumblr goes, I've been right where you are and I too am still trying to learn the ropes here. I've been very fortunate that 96% of my asks have been very positive and I've found some amazing and supportive mutuals on here for all of my main fandoms I've been in and out of. If I can give you some advice, Nonnie, one thing I've definitely learned, though, is you need to curate your experience as best as you can. Meaning, if you need to block a blog, do it. Don't feel bad and don't worry about that blogger might think. I can't tell you how liberal I've been with the block button lately. Anything that is going to upset you or not make you feel good, when you come on here to enjoy the things you love, block it. If you don't want to see something specific in the tags, go to your account settings:

Then scroll down to the filters part:

You can see some tags in both screenshots I've added here. Click on the edit button:

And just add things like "anti eddie diaz" or "anti ryan guzman" or "ryan guzman hate" or anything you don't want to see. Tumblr will filter it for you. And as you move through the site more and find some blogs to follow, you'll see posts pop up on your dash that will be greyed out and will tell you that's it blocked due to the filter and you can still see it if you want to but they won't show it to you unless you click on it.

And one thing I definitely recommend that I tend to do 98% of my time on this site is scroll right past the stuff I don't want to see. For example, one of my tags is anti Buddie but when I go into the Eddie Diaz tag I always saw posts that hated on the ship and its shippers and was pro Eddie/Ana (until recently anyways). I just kind of rolled my eyes and scrolled past all that bs. Even when they brought it into my inbox, I just laughed it off and was like "sure, Jan, sure". (and I'm not showing you that to bring more negativity to your doorstep, that's the last thing you or anyone needs, but to show you that this is just some of the ridiculousness you'll come across on this site and you just kind of have to go "okay, sure, right", give them the one finger salute, and then go hunt down the content you're looking for) There will always be that special brand of fucknut negativity on here but the good thing, the positive usually outweighs the bad. For example, I love Destiel and Dean. That fandom experience, to me, was one of the harshest and still continues to be. Not so much that I got hit with a lot of hate myself, but I watched other people get hit with it and I really learned from how they handled themselves. They didn't stop posting what they wanted and basically took the attitude of "I'm gonna love Destiel and Dean harder". And thanks to them, I was able to curate my own experience in the Destiel and Dean tags, find my mutuals to follow, and navigate the fandom. I knew not to go into the "Sam" tag for example, not because I don't love Sam, but a lot of the hate tends to reside in that tag. But the mutuals I followed do post Sam content from time to time and so it's a win-win for me.

I don't know if any of this helps you, Nonnie. I hope it does and I hope I was able to bring you a little bit of comfort. I know what it was like starting out on this site and a lot of it was frankly overwhelming. But now I enjoy my experience with it and all of my different fandom travels. And I only hope you will start to have that soon, too. I think doing the filter blockage will definitely help. =) And I'm sorry, Nonnie, I've been there and the last thing you need is any kind of negativity or seeing things that upset you. So only look at things that make you feel happy and that you truly enjoy. -I know, on a meta level the showrunners probably wanted to just reset things to the status quo of him having a secret identity. But. We've been doing that for (2) seasons, I'd love if season 3 could be like, his parents adjusting to this and trying way harder to learn more and accept it (and the shenanigans that could come from that) and for fun, if he didn't wipe the students memories, it could be him being popular for a while, then everyone slowly realizing, oh, he's still Danny. Like. he might have ghost powers but hes Just The Same Guy instead of putting him on a pedestal (and seeing them all try and help him hide it from the giw/people who don't know!!)

-fuck they didn't even explain WHY he wiped everyone except sam, tucker and jazz's memories. he just Did It right when his parents were saying they loved/accepted him!! and sam and tucker didnt question it at all!!! HELLO??? very annoyed about this turn of events.

Idk if you'll know this, but the internet has had confusing answers. How does credit for songwriting work? In Miss Americana, I only remember Taylor coming up with lyrics - but she didn't solo write any songs on rep, and several of the songs we saw in the movie are credited with cowriters. Lots of artists have 5 or 6 people credited with songwriting. Are there actually between 3 and 6 people who write lyrics or does a songwriting credit include other things besides the words? Like composing?

I’m not going to pretend to know more about this than I do so let’s just say upfront that I am not an expert in this. 

From my very vague and rudimentary understanding, songwriting at its core is lyrics and melody. Sometimes there is only one single person who does this and sometimes there are a few. If there are a few, the contribution level of number of lines or words to the lyrics can vary. 

Once you get into a studio, there is a lot more that goes into laying down the final track. Like arranging what supplementary instruments sound like in that final version of the song. Drums, bass, guitar, piano, strings? All those other instrumental tracks need to be arranged.

So you have: Lyrics, melody, arranged instruments. The decision to then attribute songwriting credit is basically mutually decided between everyone who worked on that song. In some cases even if a contributor in the room only thought of 1-2 lines for a song, they may get partial songwriting credit. Taylor has a lot of instances of her ‘writing to track’ over the last few years in her vocal memos. She’s writing lyrics to a melody and instruments that were written by somebody else. So the person who wrote that melody (in these cases, Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner) would have songwriting credit. 

In the case of Miss Americana, while it shows part of the songwriting process it obviously doesn’t show literally every single moment in the studio.

do u hv any general tips on writing? ive spent so long re reading ur fics to learn from them, and each time im absolutely amazed at how good it is, like, each word feels like it needed to be there including words like "really" "probably" "even" just small things like that, make it so real, and as if we're actually reading the character's thoughts. also, when it comes to fics, do you base it off your own life? or do you some research, if so are there any sites u use frequently? have a good day <3

I'll go slightly out of order (under cut bc trying not to spam dashes):

First off, thank you so so much!! Wowzers! Every time someone says they've read something I wrote more than once, it makes me so, so happy!!! And to do it with the intention of learning?! Whoa! I'm so touched! Someone once told me they learned a lot whenever I did that "commentary" on coming up tails... I planned on doing that w ch. 11 of aibg (that someone requested)... maybe I should rally? Idk, if you think it'd be of some use, lmk and I'll begin this weekend. That said, I never took a writing class apart from one memoir one, so idk much. I'm also just kind of going with the flow and hoping what I write makes sense! I don't think I'd ever have enough confidence in my writing to go into a creative lit class or anything! (funny you'd say that about not having one excessive word bc I'm actively trying to write LESS... I think I always have too many unnecessary words 😂)

(vaguely answered inspo before) I do base a LOT off my own life. Mostly conversations I'm imagining with people I like. Like I have a crush on this guy (see any other post), and a few months back I saw him in a store and we didn't speak, but saw each other. i kept imagining he would wait outside when i exited and i'd walk up to him and the first thing i'd say to him, meeting him in person for the first time, would be: "i'm going to hate myself, aren't i?" "why?" he'd ask. "for having sex with you." and that obviously didn't happen, but i imagined it over and over and am always tempted to write a ST story w work enemies based on that one fantasied-conversation. does that make sense?

The easiest ones offhand are ALL of On Pride. I did get a splinter and meet a classmate at the hospital week one of undergrad. I went to dinner with someone i liked all through law school and he always knew it and it always felt like the timing didn't work, but he also was single and then went out with someone else? but i still am positive liked me? idk (this and hospital were years apart and different people). Or in paper moon, I had a think w a guy in barbados that was similar... or had the same conversation at the cloisters in ny that they have in the church about god... So point of the story: yes, a lot of things are based off dumb shit in my life, but most is based off imagined-conversations with men. also a lot on scenes from media I consume. I'll see a movie, love one plot point, think about it for weeks, and then decide to write it down. (or these days, you guys... i did a rough outline of that whole royal!au/bodyguard!au after someone put it in an ask 😂)

That all said, I don't do research for inspiration... but when I have a question (see this answer) I just google. during oh, oh I'm on fire (worth the tag even though no one will read? 😭) I called my mother so many times to ask about the 70's (i.e. did you say fridge or icebox growing up? when did grandma stop wearing panty-hose?). So that's basically it? (i even read a book specifically for that though!). No specific websites. Sorry I can't be of more help!

And then, finally, general tips:

just write. That’s the most important. Edit later if that helps. Just keep writing.

I am a pro-outliner. But sometimes that doesn’t work for everyone. I love it because I can lay out the big things and then see where I have gaps. And when I need motivation, i already have the section basically drafted. So if I’m having to force myself (which happens — it’s work. There is always a few parts (sometimes more) of a fic I have to grit my teeth through), I already have what I want to say outlined and can just write it out and by the time I finish that section, I’m into it and can move onto the next thing. I love outlining. It helps me see the big picture too. And when I need motivation, I’ll just reread my outline.

If that doesn’t work though, then just write. And when it gets hard, see if you can just eek out one more page, even if you hate everything you’re putting down, just to get over that hurdle.

And find friends! If you ever need someone to look at your writing, let me know! I have no superlative ideas, but can always be around to talk through things/motivate!

Anyway, sorry for this morbidly long answer. I hope at least some of it was of use. And thank you for this message! It really made my day to see it as soon as I woke up!
