SO. I finished a DAO playthrough of the city elf bg for the first time last night. And I think we all know by now that the epilogue slides in that game mean very little if anything. BUT i still felt like I got hit by a freight train when I read this:

Like. They really grabbed Tabris by the scruff of the neck and waved them around and said "YOU CAN'T HAVE ANNNYYYYTTTHHHHIIIIIIINNGG"

This would have been the final straw for my Tabris. She would have gotten word of Shianni's murder while out in the field and she would have SNAPPED. She would have dropped everything and dragged herself and Zevran all the way back to Denerim where a *lot* of bigoted humans and nobles would suddenly disappear overnight.

Except for the guy who killed Shianni. He's found the next morning dead, his corpse sitting in the palace throne with a Grey Warden dagger stabbed into his chest and a note on the blade: "Fix this. - KT"

Kallian stirs long before Leliana rises from the bedroll. No matter how quiet her lover is, life in the Alienage has forged her a light sleeper. She opens her eyes just enough to see the blurry outline of the campfire, dimmer now than when they retired.

It's been around three hours, Kallian guesses, and three more before they ought to rise, but Leliana needs her moment.

Surely enough, she unwraps an object rolled into a scrap of linen. Leliana stares at it for a long, quiet moment, locked in her thoughts. Tears in her eyes, Kallian imagines, though she can't see. A quick movement soon confirms her suspicions; Leliana wipes her eyes.

An unnamed something tugs at Kallian's heart, as so many times before, and she's rising before she's realised it. Saying nothing, she settles next to Leliana, offering a smile. A rarity on her lips, reserved only for a few souls in this rotting world.

"I'm sorry," Leliana says softly, blinking away tears.

Shaking her head, Kallian looks down to the item in Leliana's hands: an arrow, its blade still stained with blood.

Marjolaine's blood.

"It's not every day you kill someone you love," Kallian whispers, mindful of keeping this between them.

A beat passes and Kallian can't quite tell where it will go, but at last Leliana reacts. She lets out the barest of scoffs, as if exasperated.

"I loved her once," comes the melodic voice, a hint of frustration present, "but you're the woman I love now."

Kallian's hand finds Leliana's; she gives it a light squeeze in lieu of the words that refuse to come out, but are true all the same. Instead, she says; "You don't need to be over her."

Leliana squeezes back at this, a sigh escaping her lips. Relief, perhaps. Kallian was never good at this — the whole comforting thing, the feelings talk — but with Leliana… things just seem to go right.

"Come on, you need some rest," Kallian says, not long after Leliana's rested her head on her shoulder. It seems criminal to make her move, but Kallian needs her awake and alert tomorrow. And the next day. And the day after that. For reasons she can't say, but trusts are understood nonetheless.

Leliana nods, smiling. Carefully, she wraps the arrow inside the linen and Kallian makes no mention of it. Won't ever try and part Leliana with it, or anything else she holds valuable.

In time, perhaps this will set her apart from the woman who used and discarded Leliana like a broken weapon, even if her lips will never unseal for the things she wants to say.

Perhaps, Leliana will stay.

Blue Satin Shoes

“I thought you didn’t like shoes,” chuckled Leliana incredulously, turning the boots around in her hands. The charms hanging off their lacy embellishments swayed with the motion — they looked like little dog-shaped embers when the firelight bounced off of them. “Beyond how much they warm your feet, that is.”

Kallian shrugged. “I don’t, really, but I know you like them, so I tried my best. I didn’t quite know what to look for, though, so if you don’t like ‘em I—“

Much to the Warden’s surprise, Leliana’s pointer finger collided with her lips, silencing her in an instant. A sweet smile crossed the bard’s face, lips slightly parted and blue eyes shining. Kallian froze, a statue in place with wide eyes and ears pointed straight up to the night sky. “I love them, Kallian,” Leliana assured her in a quiet voice steeped in… was that affection? Or just pity? “Thank you.”

When Leliana removed her finger the elf couldn’t help but cough rather awkwardly as warmth, for some Maker-forsaken reason, rushed to her face. “‘S no problem,” she muttered.

Kallian: The Chariot?

The Chariot: What goal is your character determined to reach?

This is actually a great question for Kallian because that changes across just the span of the game. The fact is, she doesn't even have a goal to start. She's not a look to the future type of person. Day to day at most. End of the night we survived, great lets do that again tomorrow.

Time goes on and at first it's gather armies to fight the blight that's all I need to focus on. But the more it spreads the more real it becomes and the goal in mind really shifts to Save My Family. Stopping the blight would be ideal yeah, but she's planning how to get them out of the alienage, what money she can give them to escape north, how likely it is she could even abandon the wardens to protect them specifically if things really came down to it in the final hour. Yeah sorry but if Ferelden is going to fall, she's not going down with it. She started this journey protecting Shianni, by the Maker she's going to make sure Shianni stays saved.

Ultimately her goals keep coming down to family as her timeline progresses. Keep her dad and shianni and soris safe, keep her child safe (even leave the wardens to do so) keep zev safe from crows. That's all she wants.

Dragon Age hype has me thinking of my beloved OCs that have been living in my head for years.

Kallian Tabris - city elf rogue

A spiteful, angry, hateful elf born with Intermittent Explosive Disorder. The rampant injustices elves suffer only make her worse, especially the unjust murder of her mother. Kallian begins the story hating humans so much it literally makes her feral.

The blight becomes a remedy for Kallian. The gentle positive influence of Leliana, Wynne and Alistair give Kallian a chance to show that her anger is a defense mechanism to protect a very loving heart. She is so angry because she doesn't want to lose the people she loves.

Kallian's story is a redemption arc. She truly becomes a hero, and gets to ride into the sunset with Leliana after a job well done.

Being a city elf means she is almost entirely uneducated. But Wynne teaches her to read and write during the blight. And post-canon, she teaches her father so they can send letters while Kallian is traveling. Later, Kallian teaches herself to speak Orlesian for Leliana.

Sarah Hawke - sarcastic mage

Sarah is too smart. Way too smart. And a magical prodigy. In fact, Sarah is such a talented mage that she hides her status by almost never using her magic. She'd rather deal with situations through quick wit and baffling people with bullshit. Her friendship with fellow wordsmith Varric is the stuff of legends.

Kirkwall never even knows she's a mage until she is forced to use her magic to survive the Arishok fight.

The constant losses and tragedies Sarah suffers in Kirkwall wear her down, until it becomes very difficult to maintain her witty sarcastic persona. Her romance with Anders starts as a mutual partnership of hopes and dreams, both of them wishing for a better future.

As Anders deteriorates, he starts blatantly using and manipulating Sarah. When he fully snaps, she has no choice but to kill him. As the knife slides into his back, something permanently dies inside Sarah. The funny charming mage is gone. Sarah chooses to end her life in the fade years later, defending her friends and the Inquisitor.

Keeran Trevelyan - warrior

Maximum manwhore. Keeran comes from a wealthy, spoiled background. But one where he got very little attention from his family. So he has spent his life acting out just to get noticed. Lavishly spending coin and bedding as many people as possible to fill the void in his heart.

The only reason Keeran wields big weapons is to show off and look good to people who might be watching.

He spends his early days with the Inquisition living in terror. He thinks all of these religious extremists would certainly execute him if they learned the Herald of Andraste was a decidedly unholy hedonist who has no idea where his powers come from.

WARDENS

Evadne (/iːˈvædniː/; Ancient Greek: Εὐάδνη): From Greek Εὐάδνη (Euadne), from εὖ (eu) meaning "good" possibly combined with Cretan Greek ἀδνός (adnos) meaning "holy".

Explanation: Felt like an unwell name for a trans Circle mage to choose for herself.

Kalyani (/kæljɑːni/; Sanskrit: कल्याणी): Means "beautiful, lovely, auspicious" in Sanskrit.

Explanation: Default Tabris is Kallian, which seems like a good Fereldan name, but I really wanted to draw on themes around belonging and identity with Kal, and so giving her a name that could be confused for Kallian was something I really wanted to do - to reflect the Anglicisation that often happens to our mothertongue names. Also, desi elves ftw.

Faris (/ˈfaː.ris/; Arabic; فارس): Means "horseman, knight" in Arabic.

Explanation: One of my favourite names.

Aedan (/ˈeɪ.dən/; Old Irish: Áedán): From the Old Irish name Áedán meaning "little fire", a diminutive of Áed.

Explanation: Literally just the default m!Cousland name because I could not be bothered.

CHAMPIONS

Lysander (/laɪˈsændə/): Latinized form of the Greek name Λύσανδρος (Lysandros), and it means "liberator".

Explanation: Pro-mage Hawke. Self explanatory (:

Miranda (/mɪ.ˈɹæn.də/): Derived from Latin mirandus meaning "admirable, wonderful". The name was created by Shakespeare for the heroine in his play The Tempest (1611), in which Miranda and her father Prospero are stranded on an island.

Explanation: I do just like the name but hmmm potentially some thoughts around mage!Hawke and Malcolm dynamics...?

Damon (/ˈdeɪ.mən/; Ancient Greek: Δάμων): Derived from Greek δαμάζω (damazo) meaning "to tame". According to Greek legend, Damon and Pythias were friends who lived on Syracuse in the 4th century BC. When Pythias was sentenced to death, he was allowed to temporarily go free on the condition that Damon take his place in prison. Pythias returned just before Damon was to be executed in his place, and the king was so impressed with their loyalty to one another that he pardoned Pythias.

Explanation: Thinking about Handers so no one talk to me rn.

Amalia (/a.ˈmaː.li̯a/; Greek; Αμαλία): Short form of Germanic names beginning with the element amal. This element means "unceasing, vigorous, brave", or it can refer to the Gothic dynasty of the Amali (derived from the same root).

Explanation: Chose this one because I wanted a warrior!Hawke, who was only ever really a warrior because of necessity. Of all my Hawkes, Mal is actually the one who adapts to being a noble well (Leandra's daughter, through and through), and so I wanted to explore different kinds of strength.

Alexis (/ə.ˈlɛk.sɪs/; Ancient Greek; Ἄλεξις): From the Greek name Ἄλεξις (Alexis) meaning "helper" or "defender", derived from Greek ἀλέξω (alexo) meaning "to defend, to help".

Explanation: Felt like a super fitting name for a red warrior Hawke tbh!!!!

Joan (/ˈd͡ʒoʊn/): Medieval English form of Johanne, an Old French form of Iohanna (Joanna). A famous bearer was Joan of Arc, a patron saint of France (where she is known as Jeanne d'Arc). She was a 15th-century peasant girl who, after claiming she heard messages from God, was given leadership of the French army. She defeated the English in the battle of Orléans but was eventually captured and burned at the stake.

Explanation: Joan is my pro-Templar Sebmancing playthrough. Of course I named her after Joan of Arc.

Maimunah (/maj.ˈmuː.nah/; Arabic: ميمونة): Means "auspicious, blessed, favourable" in Arabic, in the Malay and Indonesian form.

Explanation: Thought about Malcolm naming his tiny mage daughter and wanted to cry. Also, I've always really loved this name - I knew an adult with this name as a kid, and she was really just... I admired her so much. So why not!!!

INQUISITOR

Isra (/ʔis.ˈraːʔ/; Arabic: إسراء): Means "nocturnal journey", derived from Arabic سرى (sara) meaning "to travel at night" - refers to the Prophet's journey from Makkah to Jerusalem (Isra' and Mi'raj)

Explanation: If you know the context behind this name, then the link to the Herald is quite obvious.

Iskandar (/ʔis.ˈkan.dar/; Arabic: إسكندر): Arabic, Malay and Indonesian form of the name Alexander, which is the Latinized form of the Greek name Ἀλέξανδρος (Alexandros), which meant "defending men" from Greek ἀλέξω (alexo) meaning "to defend, help" and ἀνήρ (aner) meaning "man" (genitive ἀνδρός).

'Date Pies' masterpost 🌹

'Date Pies' is a beloved Dragon Age fic and project I started in 2021. I never turned it into something like an art masterpost and thought it might me fun!

Do you recognize some characters? Can you guess what happens in the story from those images? (especially the Dog-Teagan scene? 💀)

I took a lot of creative liberties, but it was immensely fun to further indulge in DA lore and to fill-in some vague or empty spaces with my headcanons and costume + character designs.

It's a Dragon Age Origins fic with a Kallian Tabris (the city elf) romancing Bann Teagan.

Kallian Tabris (kept the default name because it feels so right), she/they, 19, city elf origin, duel wield warrior, romanced Alistair, made Anora queen, executed Loghain, got Alistair to do the dark ritual, on a mission to make it out alive with her gang no matter what, hasn't paused to think in years and isn't going to start now.

Ghilaeth Lavellan, she/her, 27, Dalish origin, mage, chooses to learn necromancy, romanced Solas, sided with the mages, made Leliana Divine, removed her vallaslin and regrets it when clan Lavellan are wiped out, disbanded the Inquisition, extremely out of her depth but she's a fast learner, constantly enraged and humiliated, wtf is Andrastianism.

I haven't done Hawke because I'm about to start a new DA2 playthrough but I'm planning to play as the default purple m!Hawke, warrior, and romance Anders.

The news about the new Dragon Age game excited me so much that I was inspired to try digital art, and I'm happy with how it turned out. Indulgent OC-lore under the cut!

This is my Kallian Tabris, (almost) all cleaned up and ready to get married in the first photo, and in the second a grizzled warden time has not been kind to, who's in the same background not due to my own laziness but because she's revisiting the alienage in vivid memories, of course.

She got those tattoos as an homage to her mother, a Dalish elf who she knew little about but had seen in photos, face and neck adorned with lines that looked like vines or thick black veins, some in the shape and placement like the one she got herself.

Anyway, advice on digital art, especially concerning armor- I could use plenty of help there, would be greatly appreciated. Gonna go play it all again from the beginning, again.

All of them are technically Warden OCs and have their own playthrough/worldstate, but usually whatever OCs aren't recruited simply die during their origin. Daren and Maeve are quantum locked, so only one can survive the siege: if neither survive, Maeve tried and failed to raise the alarm and Daren died defending the door, praying someone would come to save their parents.

The exceptions are the last section: for example, most of the time Sid joins the Legion of the Dead and pops up during the Dead Trenches to briefly team up with the "real" Warden, Garadin dies saving Shianni (which prompts the alienage riots), and Solona is one of Uldred's people who dies during Broken Circle.
