Introducing the Flaghoist AU, my Ingo x Reader fic (and potentially series) with a Battle Facility Head reader! You are the Captain (and also the Commander—more on that later) of the ocean liner S.S. Koko, also known as the Battle Ship. It is your pride and joy, and together with your dedicated crew, you ferry people and Pokémon alike between regions, battling all the way.

You’re also the commander of a special operation known as the Navy Reserve Pokémon Operations Detachment—or NR-POD—which consists of you and the four Engineers of the Battle Ship, your sub-bosses. You’re reserve Navy, so not active-duty, but if Unova went to war, you all could be mobilized. This has only happened once before: during the Team Plasma crisis.

Upon return to the S.S. Koko’s home port of Castelia City, after over a year of absence, the ship goes in for maintenance. For a lack of better things to do, you, alongside your best friend and Engineer Zirk, challenge the Multi Battle Line of the Battle Subway.

Unova wasn’t the place of your birth, but it is home, and returning home never comes without struggles. Old friends, old enemies, and new trials breach the surface, and sometimes, it’s all you can do to just stay afloat.

I did a frankly obscene amount of research just to plot out the idea of this fic, and I’m honestly still not sure I got everything right. Bear with me please—the Navy is confusing.

I have headcanons upon headcanons for the Captain, but I’m not sure which ones I’m gonna make au canon yet. Really, it’s just headcanons all the way down. Three headcanons in a trenchcoat attempting to impersonate a semi-coherent thought, if you will.

If I do art, I’ll post it here, but I’m really not an artist. Mostly it would be sketches of different things, maybe some outfit mockups. I’m really bad at drawing people but ooooh Zirk NEEDS drawn (y’all will understand when I post his bio)

I am planning for this to be part of a series, called the Flaghoist series. This is because each work title is based on the International Maritime Signal Flags, which are often used through flaghoist signaling. (Fun fact: “Bravo Zulu,” or BZ, means well done.)

So there is a formula in fallout 2 that determines how good the chosen one is at sex as a hidden rp check. You can do this with any character that you know the special stats of. So of course i did it with Deacon.

The formula is:

CH • 50 + EN • 25 + AG • 13 + ST • 12 / 100 (over 100)

9 is great, 7 is good, 5 is normal, 3 is bad, and 2 is horrible

Anywho, in order of highest to lowest of the companions that i used the formula on;

Hancock - 8.4

Deacon - 8.15

Danse - 7.9

MacCready - 7.65

Curie - 4

I thought because of the chem thing, Zirk and Hancock would get along. I forgot about little details like Hancock is actually a really good person…

Like yes, Zirk collects stray dogs and set up Mama Murphy's TV for her, but like, he also literally shoots people because they have smelly farts (true story... psa: don't eat sus meat, people...).

I should've anticipated this outcome 😩

“You’ve never heard of the SAFE test?” Zirk scoffed. “I thought you guys were supposed to be, like, the cutting edge of Synth research.”

“Well, give me an example, then,” Danse said, pursing his lips in disapproval. He hadn’t yet managed to break the young Knight of his less honorable verbal habits, such as ribbing his superiors at every opportunity, and he still hadn’t managed to convince him to leave the old Synth he traveled with in the nearest scrapheap, either. “I will bring this ‘SAFE test’ back to the Prydwen to test its efficacy.”

“The only question that really works is the baseball one,” Zirk shrugged, taking a drag from his cigarette. Another unpleasant habit.

“The violent, bat-beating sport? What about it?”

“Like, I would ask, ‘What position would you play on your local baseball team?’ And you would say…?”

Danse felt a yawning chasm open in his mind, pressing, itching, against his temples. “What?”

Zirk’s expression changed minutely, and he repeated himself, this time an odd tone to his voice.

Danse shook his head, willing the fog away, “I would play… uh… I would play… on the baseball team, I would play the…”

He watched as Zirk’s expression ran through several faces he’d never seen on the young man. Faces he kept guarded behind a thick wall of cigarette smoke and sneers. He felt a jolt of panic to wonder at the cause of them now.

Then he felt more than heard the old, decrepit synth next to him as a low rumble of a laugh poured from his voicebox:

“Wrong answer.”

So Zirk’s first home is Red Rocket, and it is completely full of rescued dogs. As a stray himself, Zirk feels compelled to give them at least some small comforts. It was important to Zirk that he keep this Red Rocket separate from his raider lifestyle, and I, the player, could’ve sworn that I dropped off Gage before he went home, but when we turned around… there he was. Surrounded by dogs. Secret’s out, Zirko. Time to test your man.

I don't even know if Zirk and Gage are on speaking terms after that.
