Alright, I have a bit of a call to action for my fellow Ocean Liner nerds. I'm working on a project and would like some assistance. My friend is a computer science major. I asked him, "what kind of math would I need to do to figure out how fast the SS America would go if she had the SS United States' engines?" He explained to me that that is the kind of stuff he's working on doing now. AKA, not something I can do. But he agreed to help me. Now I'm working on a spreadsheet. It has 42 ocean liners at the moment, and I'm trying to gather as much data as I can. GRT, Speed, horsepower, length, beam, draught, displacement, literally anything that can be generalized to most ocean liners. Even if it has nothing to do with speed. No data is too much data. We seek to figure out the relationship between GRT, horsepower, and speed. Thus far, I've been using Wikipedia. For my purposes, it seems generally reliable enough. However, this has left large gaps in my data. For example, I think less than half of these liners have their horsepower listed in any capacity. Does anyone know of a reliable source to find info like this? I've heard only good things about the Miramar Ship Index, but it requires a paid subscription to access. At this point, I dont have the money to spend on that, and I don't have the time to ensure that my 7 day free trial isn't wasted. Does anyone have access? Or any other reliable sources? If anyone is interested in assisting, just DM me and I'll send a link to the spreadsheet.

the greatest tragedy of arknights is how good it is. it's been my go-to "keep me entertained while i exercise" game for months now. [standard warning still applies: it is a gacha game, so if gambling gives you trouble, i wouldn't recommend it. it's easy for me to avoid the slot mechanic for months at a time and only pull when there's a character i really want. know yourself.]

why?

the worldbuilding. arknights takes everything but the kitchen sink, throws it in hideo kojima's blender, and adds magical tech. i mean, i compare it to death stranding and metal gear solid as a joke, but i see a clear influence on both its writing and visuals. you've got reluctant soldiers fighting for the cure for a nano-disease. you've got a world marred by natural disasters, unethical science, and old wars. you also have dragons, eldritch stuff going on in the ocean, masquerade balls, and knight tournaments as a corporate-tainted sport. every corner of every country has something to dig into. half the fun of the story is seeing what they'll chuck in next.

despite what i said earlier about it being a gacha game, it's easy to stay free-to-play. i've never spent a cent on it. you earn the slot machine currency through ingame activities, and i'm told the odds are more generous than most others of its kind. [in fact, the game allows you to buy high-end characters outright with another free currency, which removes the gambling element.] if you're willing to save and be patient, you can still rack up a very comfortable roster of very powerful teammates.

but you don't have to. most of the game's stages are beatable with common, low-end squaddies, and if they're not, you're allowed to borrow a unit from the community. game articles tend to cite this as one of its biggest strengths. it feels like it wants you to win. the most punishing content is optional.

and, since it's me, the clothes. you can tell the artists are fashion nerds, because while most characters' clothes are fanciful, they look wearable. cosplayers say they're more comfortable than other costumes from that genre, and they'll mash up several aesthetics at once with interesting results. [seriously, if you've ever wondered what "knight sportswear" looks like, check it out.] there's even a teammate who used to edit a fashion magazine, which is a funny, meta nod to the game's cosmetic skins.

the "people with animal ears" thing is a little goofy for me, but like, i've watched anime before. i know the drill. i have no idea what the fandom is like, and frankly, i'm content. all i know is that it's fun and the girls are my sailor moon friends

Astrarium: The Adventures Between Realms: An In-Depth Look

What is Astrarium: The Adventures Between Realms?

Astrarium is a massive, written work of online fiction created by myself and my boyfriend Jonathan, with the art department fully manned by our best friend Tai (@cowboytai) and edited/possibly narrated by our other best friend Watta (found here at his YouTube channel).

The story follows the adventures of Artemis, or Ari as she's better known, a human girl raised by Dragons. The Dragons of are the deities of the universe, with a select group delegated to the task of Watchers, whom take the role of nurturing, shaping and recording the histories of the Seven Realms found in their universe. Ari, at age 16, is able to begin her training to become a Watcher (and the first ever human Watcher), and takes the four years of her training to explore each and every Realm, making friends and enemies along the way, and discovering more of who she is and who she wants to become.

We're currently looking at publishing it on its own website sometime in 2022. What we're looking at having done before then is the prologue, first five chapters, and the first trips to every Realm. Currently, we have the prologue and chapters 1-3 finished, with chapter 4 in progress along with the first round of trips. The prologue and chapters 1-5 will be posted together on the launch of the website. We will also have a Patreon set up for it, with some varying reward tiers!

What are the Realms?

There are Seven Realms featured in Astrarium, all named after constellations. They are Hydra (The Water Serpent), Auriga (The Charioteer), Ursa (Greater Bear), Cygnus (The Swan), Orion (The Hunter), Lepus (The Hare) and Lyra (The Lyre). Each one also features its own aesthetics, cultures, and even specialized races/species of civilized life.

Hydra takes place in a very water and island based world, with an aesthetic setting of the Age of Exploration/Golden Age of Piracy. There are seven major oceans on this world, and hundreds of islands, both inhabited and uninhabited and many filled to the brims with treasures. There are also large underwater cities that are elegantly built and homes to all sorts of academic pursuits.

Auriga is a world inspired by both the Old West and the Steampunk fashion and aesthetic. They have new inventions coming out every day, fueled not just by steam power but also by magical crystals. And they thrive off of having big communities that all rely on each other.

Ursa is a very natural world filled with gorgeous forests and lovely springs. It's world is heavily inspired by high fantasy, dungeons and dragons, and a certain other old tale that'll be evident in its cast of characters. It is filled with magics of all kinds and magical creatures left and right.

The citizens of Cygnus live on floating islands, all connected to each other by tethers, and the inhabitants fly anywhere they please. The aesthetic is based in 1920s/1930s fashion and glitz and glam, with a little bit of a seedy underbelly lurking in the city...as well as interesting horrors down in the jungles below them.

The Giantesses of Orion have kept to the simpler life, with a definite cottage core aesthetic throughout. They are an agricultural society with many settlements and even still wandering nomadic tribes that all unite for the big Games every year.

Lepus' people have been facing an endless winter for over a thousand years. The people have long forsaken and forgotten about their magic, and have relied heavily on science and technology to help rebuild their lives and try to find a way to combat the winter. It's a very sci-fi setting with some style influence from all over.

Lyra is the land of the dead and the home of an eternal party. With plenty of Halloween based influences, there is never a dull moment for those who find themselves in the built towns, and those who are stuck in the fog wander and sing their songs until they find their way to a new home.

Outside of the Realms, there is Dragons Keep, a large mountain in space that acts as the home to all Dragons. It's caves are vast and plentiful, winding all the way through from the head of the mountain, where the High Council meets, to the very bottom. And even with many areas claimed and made use of in this large mountain, there are always mysteries to be found.

Who are the characters?

Astrarium has one of the largest casts of characters we've worked with, with tons of new friends, rivals, and enemies for Ari to meet. Along with Ari, there is a main character for each Realm, with a cast of supporting characters.

Ari (she/her) acts as the main protagonist, helping guide some of the plot and seeing everything through her eyes. On Hydra, our protagonist is Gibbson "Gibbs" Cayde (he/him); on Auriga, Huxley "Huck" Holiday (he/him); on Ursa, Ronan Löx (he/him); on Cygnus, Clyde (he/him); on Orion, Fauna (she/her); on Lepus, Henrietta "Henri" Franklin (possibly she/they, still figuring it out!) ; and on Lyra, Alexei (he/him). Also on Dragons Keep, we have Aris' family, with her adopted mother/Mama, Arabella, her Uncle Killick, and her cousin, Libelle, who is a main character for Dragons Keep.

I hope to get to share more about our supporting cast with you all soon, as they all have some very interesting stories to get to share!

More About The Team?

We're a group of friends who have all known each other since, for the most part, high school! While I'm someone that kind of wants to keep private lives private, I can say that these are the best group of friends to have and we're honestly like our own little family. We've workshopped other projects with each other since, God, like, my senior year of high school? Just about? It's been an insane ride together. We're also just a big bunch of nerds who are all really chill and fun to be around.

How Long is The Story Going To Be?

Astrarium is looking to be the longest project we'll ever do in terms of story timeline, and page count. As the Dragons are masters of time, Ari has the ability to actually mess with it slightly and create what is essentially a "Save point" for herself to go back to after she leaves a Realm. So say she leaves Hydra on a certain day. She can make that save point, go hang out in the other Realms, and come back and it'll be either that exact save point she left at or a few hours later, give or take (though, there are chances of "hiccups" in this, usually occurring when she leaves from Dragons Keep specifically, as it is considered to be outside of the normal flow of time!).

My goal is kind of a fun one of I want it to be one of the longest word count stories out there. I don't really know why I want it to be, other than I think it'd be really cool if I could beat out that Loud House fanfiction in terms of longest works in literature. That's just a nice little goal.

Honestly, the best thing I can ask for is just getting this around! If anyone takes an interest in this series, reblogs and likes go a long way and are greatly appreciated. We also love, love, love questions!! It's a great feeling to see people want to know more and some questions can really get our thinking caps on to develop more and more! History Of Corona & Saporia (Rewrite)

So I mentioned in one of my fic premises, me and my brother made up a whole new history of Corona and Saporia, because he’s a history nerd and said the real story sounded dumb and didn’t make sense. So instead of the child friendly love story, me and him made this! (Also @rachelbethhines​ salt reviews kind of pushed me to write this too) Warning, it is a little long, but I’ve been wanting to share this for a while now, and I hope you guys enjoy it! ✨

History Of Corona & Saporia

Many years ago, there was a Kingdom brimming with life and culture, living by the sea with luscious land nearby. This Kingdom was called Solstice, well known for their craftsmanship with boats, creative personalities and clever debates. For a long time, the Kingdom rarely suffer majorly. Sure, they would get into disputes with other Kingdoms or neighbouring villages, or simple times where mother nature would be harsh for a few months, but they stood tall and proud, growing in size over the many years.

That was until strange events began popping up. It was mere things at first, heavy rains here and there, strange plagues coming and coming with the wildlife and farm animals, but over the dangerous events became higher and higher in their destruction and damage. Plagues now shifting onto the people, an unusual pattern between having bleeding hot droughts and winter filled blizzards, the local fish even disappearing over time. There were many theories on what was happening, one of the biggest involved either magic or a god upset with Solstice. But one thing was for sure, in that it was no longer safe to stay.

So the King Heller Der Sonne ordered an evacuation of his entire Kingdom, moving them onto their ships to find land elsewhere. Though a few small groups stayed behind or decided to venture elsewhere for a new home. When everything was packed and done, the Kingdom of Solstice sailed out into the waters to begin their search for a new home.

Time passed, and eventually they came across another Kingdom, one that also lied near the ocean, their capital and castle built on an island next to the land. The found this Kingdom to be called Saporia. But here is where history seems to split, two stories formed from this very encounter, both differ depending on which side you ask. For you see, Solstice was planning to land and speak with the Kingdom, in hopes to collect more resources and have a break from sailing, before then heading off to find land. But they had edged close to Saporia, this new Kingdom suddenly attacked them out of nowhere, striking down a ship or two in the process. 

Surprised and angered by the unfriendly welcome, Solstice retaliated and attacked the capital, being that would be easy to surround with their boats, especially since the Saporians didn’t have any good defences in the waters. And this attack severely crippled Saporia, since the castle was home to many of their important people, including doctors, engineers, researchers, alchemists and the royal family, while the peasants and farmers lived on the mainland. 

There were also two big reasons why the Saporians struggled to fight back during the start of this war, one being that they did have a proper army, but most of it was out fighting in battles and wars outside or at the edge of their homeland that they were already a part of, and it would take time for them to return. The second being that while they didn’t have a good defence in the waters, they had good defences in the skies, that being that their culture created well-crafted sets of airships, but they struggled to use them in the primary fight in the capital, as firing or bombing the city would have been too risky at the time. Plus, since Solstice killed many of the people who knew how to build and fix the ships, they had to be careful when using the Airships, or else they could run out without anyone able to make more at this time.

Eventually, Solstice took over the capital, making it their main base for the war, while Saporia had many outposts around the mainland, setting up their bases around their farmlands. So by the time the second wave of the war was about to start, Saporia’s army returned finally, and Solstice now had grounds to fight on. 

However, this start of the story differs a little from the Saporians side, for they claimed that they didn’t start the fight. Before Solstice arrived, Saporia was a grand Kingdom full of intelligent and inventive people, a culture well versed in science and magic. Two well-known inventions known in current times are the airships and memory wands. But this all went downhill when Solstice arrived.

A few days before they came, a few peasants or farmers would keep coming to the castle to give a warning one by one, all saying the same thing. They claimed that there were spies from Solstice that were scouting out the land, even attacking people and starting fires in farms, as if to try and weaken Saporia from the inside. This set the Kingdom on edge, as they couldn’t let these newcomers take over their lands, or come near them even. 

So when they saw the boats coming in, they had shot at them in an attempt to make them turn back, perhaps kill them if needed. But of course, that didn’t work, as they had underestimated the powerful water fleet Solstice had, which lead into the start of the war. To the Saporians random strangers came, spied on their lands, tried crippling them on the inside, then committed genocide in their capital and killing their nobles, elites and top scientists and doctors. Thankfully their Queen, Lady Mallory Shampanier, and some of her family survived, managing to escape into the farmlands where they prepared to try and get their home back. 

And that is how the war began, with two sides of the stories, both with holes in them. There were arguments about the different sides of the tale, some asking questions like “Why would Solstice want to risk starting a fight with spies if they had their entire Kingdom with them, including civilians?” or “Someone had to have started those fires, and no Saporian would want to damage their homes and farms, so it had to be Solstice, right?”, but by then no one cared around the hows and whys, as both sides had to stand their ground for their home and people.

However, during the near start of the war, both King Heller Der Sonne and Queen Mallory Shampanier had already been old rulers, and could not hold out for long, both eventually succumbing to their ages and dying, passing their roles down to their children. Now the new King of Solstice was Roland Der Sonne, while the new Queen of Saporia was Jarvia Shampanier, both who were ready to carry out their parents and peoples’ wishes. 

The war was brutal, many deaths and damages on both sides, with Solstice cutting off their access to ocean resources, and Saporia bombing farmlands close to the capital to ruin their enemies chances for harvesting food from the land. But as time went on, it became clearer and clearer that neither side was winning, in fact, they could risk dying out if they kept this out, perhaps never recovering from the battles if they didn’t stop. Solstice had lost a lot of their people, while Saporia lost a lot of their culture due to most of their knowledge and blueprints had been in the capital, mostly destroyed by the genocide. 

But neither side wanted to let up, pressing on and on and on for many years, crippling their Kingdoms and the land around them. In fact, it went on for the rest of King Roland Der Sonne, Queen Jarvia Shampanier lives, as they too eventually passed on like their parents. 

This led into the third generation involved with this war, with the new rulers being King Herz Der Sonne and Queen Serilda Shampanier. Now, many people in Corona during these current times know their story, one about true love. Unfortunately, it is not as black and white as it appears to be, and their story of love was nothing but a cover-up for the future. 

By this time, both sides were drained and knew the consequences of not stopping would forever be unfixable. So in desperate times, the King and Queen decided to debate and settle matters in a different way. While they discussed, many waited in anticipation, not knowing what the two would do in the end. But after a few days, both come out to the public and announced that they would be uniting the Kingdom through married. Now, Hertz and Serilda never loved each other, that was the reality of it, though they didn’t necessarily hate one another either, they just knew that this might be their only option in saving both their Kingdoms. 

There was some arguing and debating between the people, a few unsure or downright upset with the propositions, but by then the majority of them were tired and wanted the war to be over, so they agreed to the idea of their King and Queen. So when the two finally married, their Kingdoms were untied, now going by the name Corona. 

However, even that didn’t please everyone. The younger brother of the Queen, Leonard Shampanier, was furious, demanding that his sister break up this deal, as he didn’t want their people to be untied with Solstice, who they still believed started this whole mess. However, his sister denied him, saying she had to do what was right for their people, and at this point it didn’t matter who started what, they just wanted it to end. But Leonard could not accept this, collecting other Saporians who too felt this was wrong, and vanishing out into the forests and valleys, going under the name Separatists of Saporia. They had originally thought about causing an uprising with other Saporians too, but it didn’t go as planned as the King turned it against them, stating that the Separatists of Saporia were trying to start a war again. It also didn’t help that, since they didn’t have access to the Kingdom, they had to steal food from farms, which inturned made the peasants favour the King. So the Separatists of Saporia hid away in the shadows, collecting what remained of their culture, waiting for the right time.

And that is how Corona was formed, under the desperate uniting Kingdoms that sought to end a raging war finally. Herz and Serilda were successful rulers, managing to bring their Kingdoms from the brink of death and building up a new culture, their descendants being King Frederic and his daughter Rapunzel. 

Meanwhile, the Separatists of Saporia stuck to the shadows, coming out from time to time to try and find ways to take back their home. Their leader and founder, Leonard, kept their culture alive for as long as he could, having a strong bloodline that followed, one of his descendants being Andrew.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. You’re confused by parts of this story still, mostly about the different sides on how this war started. Well, that’s because not all sides were told, as there is a third story that fits into explaining the truth. But we must go back to the start, back before Solstice ever left their original lands.

This part of the tale as two characters, a young man with a passion for science called Demanitus, the other being a young woman who wanted to understand the unknown named Zhan Tiri. These two were the royal researchers and advisers to the King, well known in their Kingdom for their intelligence and inventions. The two had met young, sharing their passions and want for knowledge, soon finding themselves to be partners and close friends. 

They trusted each other, shared with each other, thought with each other, and cared for each other. But as they rose in ranks, soon standing by the King’s side, things began to take a turn for the worst, though very slowly at first. For you see, Demanitus was more favoured than Zhan Tiri, being more approachable and was even a few steps ahead of her in the science field in specific areas. Zhan Tiri was somewhat jealous, but didn’t try and focus on it, instead she wanted to keep working on a particular project with her friend. 

The two had heard the stories of the Sundrop and Moonstone, and what power they processed, and so both were eager and had dreams of finding them one day, wanting to learn about them and perhaps even use them to make the world a better place. They made a promise in their youth to find them together and fulfil their dreams. 

But as time passed, Demanitus seemed to move on from this goal, getting caught up with his new duties and tasks, wanting the best for his Kingdom, for he had a soft spot for it and his people. Zhan Tiri tried to get his interest back on the stones, but he kept dismissing her as he was far too busy for that. She was, of course, hurt by this and annoyed that the Kingdom kept dragging her friend away from her, but she was also scared that one day he might leave her behind, as he was the only person who ever truly cared about her, her only friend.

So in a desperate attempt to, in a way, improve herself and find a way to draw Demanitus back, Zhan Tiri began delving into magic. It is unclear what happened in these times, as she would often vanish for hours, until coming back a little different each time. Unbeknownst to everyone, Zhan Tiri slowly found a way to infuse herself with raw magic, something that a human should never go through, as it seems to cause a shift in their emotional and mental state, eventually physical too over time. 

As she grew stronger in secret, Zhan Tiri decided to put her plan into motion. It started off simple, she just had to make the Kingdom unlivable over time and eventually she could convince Demanitus to leave with her. But that didn’t happen, instead he stayed with his Kingdom as they packed up and left, so she came too, needing to fix of a new idea. 

So subtly in the background, she used their research on the Sundrop and Moonstone to pinpoint the location of one of them, and made small suggestions on where to go to the King, influencing his direction on where to sail, soon leading them to the lands where one of the stones could be. Her new plan was that while the Kingdom was settling in their new home, her and Demanitus could go searching for the stone. 

But then a new obstacle appeared, that being that the land was already taken by a Kingdom, Saporia. When Zhan Tiri realised that the King wouldn’t stay, instead picking up a few things then leaving, she had to come up with a new plan. And so, with her powers, she kept disguising herself as Saporian farmers and peasants, being the one who kept starting the fires and going to the capital, telling them that Solstice was going to attack. 

In the end, she had been the one who started the war by manipulating both sides. She had hoped this would have been enough to get Demanitus to leave with her finally, her mental state crumbling due to the magic she was forcing her body to merge with, her friendship with Demanitus now becoming an obsession. But he still denied her, saying he had to help their people, especially now with this war going on.

By the time King Heller Der Sonne died, Zhan Tiri and Demanitus’s arguments were heated, aggressive and loud, with Zhan Tiri coming up with any reason to get him to leave. It all came to a head when she slipped up, revealing that she had been behind all of this. And when Demanitus rejected her, turning his back on her, it was the final straw that cracked Zhan Tiri, losing herself to her magic and pain towards Demanitus. She vowed to find the stones on her own now, and Demanitus knew he had to stop her.

He had tried to tell his King this, in hopes to end the war and put all focus on Zhan Tiri, who was practically becoming a demon at this point. But the King stated that while Zhan Tiri might have been the one to start this, he couldn’t simply stop the war, as they were in the thick of it and he knew neither side would see reason. So, Demanitus had to start pulling most of his resources onto Zhan Tiri, still helping his Kingdom on the side, but it was overly stressful, even more so when the pupils he took under his wing turned against him too.

The tale between Zhan Tiri and Demanitus continues after this, but that’s a story for another time, though many now that, in the end, Demanitus managed to banish her. Zhan Tiri’s final words to him being that she will destroy Corona, as she had given it to him, and she would take it back...

 “Baxter’s Birth”

February 20 1888 (Aquarius/Pieces) same year that Sir Pentious died

Lower Saxony, Germany.

 Robert Wilhelm Bunsen was a German chemist and created the Bunsen burner, a device that Baxter frequently uses in life and his afterlife. Baxter’s real name (fan made) Brenner means “burner” in German. Bunsen was a chemist role model for Baxter. Bunsen died in 1899, when Baxter was ten. Baxter went to the same university, University of Gottingen.

 Baxter: white skinned short man, short black hair, ocean blue eyes, later wears glasses, gloves, goggles and lab coats. Frequently wears a dark blue suit with a bow tie, white buttons, black shoes and a round matching hat. Freckles dot his cheeks.

In Hell, he is seen wearing dark gray lab coat with gloves, a top hat and esca light hanging from his head of blue/cyan hair. He has fins and cyan freckles.

 Father: Dr. Myron Fischer: tall man with black hair, black beard, glasses. Local fisherman, baker and later scientist after moving to the city. Showed Baxter concepts of a shrink ray, which Baxter would later use as a weapon in Hell.

 Mother: Maraia (star of the sea) Fischer: Bread baker, later nurse after moving to the city, studies germs and microbes, leading to Baxter’s obsession with studying small things. Instilled a hard-working, no nonsense attitude to her sons at a young age.

 Younger brother: Ryan Solis Fischer: musician (named after fan voice actor Ryan Solis, creator of Baxter’s Science Serenade). Ryan later went to Heaven and continued sharing his popular music. His parents chided him for not working hard like Baxter but Baxter always defending him.

 Baxter loves science and solitude but dislikes being touched due to a fear of germs and not being in control.

1893 age 5

Baxter is an innocent little boy who enjoys looking at fish and marine life. His father teaches him how to fish.

 At a young age, Baxter was struck by lightning and survived. The strike and his parents pressuring him to work hard led to his genius and obsession over his work. It also led to his stuttering impairment and OCD, which made him a target for bullying. Doctors nearly put him in an asylum after expressing so called “antisocial autism traits.” He was frequently poked and prodded by examiners, leading to a fear/dislike of being touched by others.

 1897 age 9

Baxter dissects fish and becomes interested in science. He does science fairs as a kid but is bullied at school because of his stuttering and being a nerd. He is pressured by his parents to achieve perfect grades all the time. When he misbehaves, he gets shocked by his parents.

 1904 age 16

Baxter was the leader of the scientist club and was working as an apprentice to a brilliant mind, a fellow mad scientist who got him interested in in-depth experiments and unethical practices. Baxter furthered his studies at the University of Gottingen from 1906-1909.

 Baxter soon fell in love with a woman researcher.

 Baxter triggered the pleasure and pain receptors of subjects and studied anglerfish intently, dissecting fish, rats and other animals. He was infamously known for producing chemicals later to be used in nuclear warfare.

 Over time, Baxter became more neurotic and isolated, wanting everything to be in its proper place. He became obsessed with small things, trying to make a miniature version of himself. He killed many victims via injecting diseases, chemicals, electric shocks etc. all “for the greater good” of progress.

 He fell in love with a woman but when she became repulsed by his methods, he grew bitter. His experiment gone wrong accidentally killed his mother, and his father never forgave him for that. The chemical that Baxter made were to be sued in the upcoming World War One.

 “Dragged Into The Depths”

April 14 1912 age 24

Baxter dies on a boat (The V.M. Angler) in 1912 (same day as the Titanic) after traveling to the United States in search of a more prosperous life. He was going to bring his dark experiments with him but the boat flooded in a violent storm. Baxter had been studying and abusing anglerfish in particular, trying to use their glow for light. Like calculating anglerfish, Baxter lurks alone in the darkness, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. When he ironically couldn’t swim, he sank to the bottom of the ocean and was promptly eaten by none other than a hungry anglerfish.

 Baxter died at the start of World War One and before World War 2 and Nazi Germany.

 Hell, 1912: “Fishy Fish Out Of Water”

Baxter arrives in Hell as a blue-teal anglerfish with female features. He can breathe underwater and turn into a giant anglerfish in his demon form. Baxter realizes that he is bisexual, showing a brief appreciation for Niffty and Sir Pentious. (Baxter has a secret on again off again crush on Sir Pentious, Niffty and Helsa…and even thinks Alastor is hot at times, though he denies it to himself.)

 Other demons are quick to bully Baxter, but he manages to escape. During an extermination, he grabs an angelic spear and uses its angelic energy to power up his inventions. Baxter travels underwater to Leviathan’s kingdom. Baxter would’ve been lost, but his family managed to get a position as researchers for King Leviathan, the gatekeeper sea monster. The king and one of the von Eldritch family members gives Baxter enough funds for him to build his own laboratory: Baxter’s Laboratory! (The von Eldritch members only helped Baxter and his family because they were Leviathan’s talented researchers)

 Baxter’s parents resemble fish in Hell (mother a pufferfish, his dad another anglerfish) and have new names: Myron (after Reducto) and Maraia (Star of the Sea). His father still fishes on sea and captures sea monsters for Baxter to study. Both his parents are still strict and distant from him.

 Like the anglerfish, Baxter resides alone in his dark underground lab, seeking victims to prey and experiment on. Ironically, he remains scared of drowning and being trapped underwater. Thankfully, his demon form allows him to swim and breathe underwater.

  1915: “The Coldblooded Madmen”

Baxter becomes an ally/rival to Sir Pentious. The snake almost kills him when the fish accidentally steps into his territory. In exchange for Sir Pentious sparing Baxter’s life in turf wars, Baxter helps Sir Pentious create his Egg Bois “They’re alive!” and they exchange inventions.

 Baxter grows tired of Sir Pentious’ old time inventions and Vox alerts him of newer inventions on Earth that he later incorporates over the years.

 1920s-1990s: “Xirxine”

At some point, Baxter joins forces with Xirxine labs and Annie the cold Zoophobia scientist, where they separately perform unethical experiments on other demons. (lobotomies, electric shock therapy, hunger prison studies, injections of drugs and magic etc.) They use their DNA samples to study all their powers and physical features. Baxter creates his shrink ray “Back off, I say!” as he shrinks demons to capture them and perform experiments on.

 2000s: “Potion Making”

After Velvet arrives in Hell, she orders Baxter to create potions, perfumes and drugs for her to sell on social media. Baxter creates drugs and poisonous chemicals. Baxter longs to create Hell into an underwater metallic paradise of his own making. He believes that everyone else is dumb and deserves to be manipulated. Baxter misses his parents but also doesn’t mind being alone…most of the time.

 2021:  “The Hazbin Hotel Episode 1!”

At some point, Baxter is tired of being watched and observed under the microscopic eyes of the tech Overlords and Sir Pentious. Baxter reluctantly goes to the Hazbin hotel for a place to stay, along with Mimzy and Crymini. He is genuinely curious and skeptical of whether Charlie’s idea of redeeming sinner could work. Baxter meets Niffty, Mimzy, Crymini and the other residents of Hazbin Hotel. Baxter then decides to create another lab…underneath the Hazbin Hotel!

 Baxter thinks Niffty is cute in her own way but isn’t interested in any romantic relationship. Niffty, however, follows him everywhere, much to his annoyance. Baxter isn’t happy when he’s forced to go to Charlie’s “group therapy” sessions instead of working in peace. Charlie says that Baxter needs to come out of his shell, make friends and use his experiments for good instead of evil. Baxter then studies everyone, taking notes and considering making A.I.s and more creatures in tanks. He writes down information about all their abilities. Baxter creates demon lab rats but is mad when Niffty eats them up as she cleans.

 Like Reducto from Harvey Birdman, and Fu from Dragon Ball Xenoverse, Baxter’s love of science can get him on the wrong terms with people. He wants to study Alastor’s dark powers and use them for his own gain but knows to stay far away from him. Despite being somewhat affiliated with the oceanic Von Eldritch family, Baxter doesn’t care much for Seviathan and Helsa. He doesn’t like them for good reason, they consider sinners inferior. Baxter knows there is tension between Vaggie, Seviathan and Alastor as they all fight over Charlie!

  2022: “Villainous Vs” “Back off, I say!”

After Baxter tries to take over Hell by spreading drugs and machines in Pentagram City, he is eventually apprehended by Charlie and company. Baxter’s parents, Niffty and others help him redeem.

 Baxter fights the Three Vs but Vox steals his technology, becoming a greater threat. Baxter and Sir Pentious are held hostage in their own inventions. Vox plans to broadcast their deaths on TV: Sir Pentious being crushed by machinery and Baxter being drowned and eaten by Vark, Vox’s pet shark!

 Thankfully, Charlie, Vaggie, Alastor, Husk, Niffty and Angel Dust arrive to save the day. This also takes place when Angel Dust tries to break free of Valentino and confront his father Henroin.

 Sir Pentious had wanted to be with the “cool crowd” and looked up to Vox as his crush. But once he was aware of Vox’s evil intentions, he and Baxter team up to help Charlie and the hotel.

 2023: “Plan to Eradicate The Sinners”

It is later revealed that Rosie, the Von Eldritch family and the angels all have a grudge against sinners and Charlie. They all view sinners as inferior to the Hell-Born elite. They view Charlie and her plan as a threat to the stable hierarchy and plan to crush her dreams with Lucifer’s help. Rosie and the Eldritch family are closely connected since Helsa often buys clothing and antiques from Rosie. Rosie stays on Alastor’s good side until later tricking him. (Alastor then knows what it feels like to be betrayed after he casually betrayed Charlie and her hotel). Rosie aims to make sinners her designer slaves, cannibal food and torture toys while Vox and Valentino plan to influence other demons via brainwashing. The villains all have a similar goal: stop Charlie from enacting her plan so they can remain in power.)

 Rosie makes a deal with the Three Vs, they would give each other money and Rosie would allow Vox and company to continue their media, provided they stay out of her way. Now Charlie and all the Hazbins must work together to fight the monopoly formidable foes. Lucifer orders them not to harm Charlie but they could harm anyone else if they put her in danger (aka Alastor). Of course, Charlie doesn’t want her dad to kill Alastor, so she and her friends have to redeem themselves and form other allegiances along the way. (Cherri Bomb, Molly (in Heaven with Angel’s mother), Alastor’s mother (in Heaven), Arackniss, Roo, Mimzy, Crymini, Baxter, maybe Sir Pentious, I.M.P. etc.) Charlie and company must stop the cannibals, Egg Bois, influenced/possessed demons of Vox/Alastor…without losing control of her power and giving into her primal Full Demon Hybrid Form. Baxter spends a lot of time helping Niffty and making chemicals to use against enemies.

 2025: “Heaven and Hell War Take Two!”

Baxter would eventually team up with Charlie and the others in the fight against the Von Eldritch family, the Three Vs, and the angels. Baxter would make inventions to fight the Exterminators, becoming less neurotic and more open to people.

  Baxter would eventually get redeemed and go to Heaven, but he wanted to go to Atlantis instead. Baxter considers building a rocket and flying through space to another world. He thanks Charlie for all she has done for him and he promises to use his experiments to heal and help advance Hell society…when he feels like it.

 Baxter and his family briefly go to Heaven and Baxter shares his work with Niffty by his side. Hell became his more familiar home and Baxter ponders the idea of reincarnation. If Baxter goes to Heaven, he turns into a human-like version of himself with white wings, a halo and features of an angelfish instead of an anglerfish.

Tony Stark was not new to the ‘getting the shit kicked out of him’ club. He lay on the sticky tile by his locker, praying for death and cheeseburgers as Justin Hammer introduced his fancy Louboutin sneakers to Tony’s million-dollar smile. It was just another Thursday he decided as the fluorescent lights blinked in and out of his vision.

“Dude, what the fuck? Get away from him.”

And there was Captain Perfect Ass here to save the day with his earnest blue eyes and coconut-sized biceps. With hair spun of gold like Midas had felt his head up, Steve Rogers yanked Hammer away from Tony, dark brows pulled over his stormy eyes.

“It’s fine!” Tony rolled his eyes, flopping onto his front to push himself up. If Hammer didn’t beat the crap out of him now, he would just come by and do it later. Tony didn’t have time in his plans to reschedule his weekly bullying. There were no fucks left to give. “Just leave it.”

Hammer was just upset that Howard had recently scored a military contract for Stark Enterprises that Hammer Industries had been gunning for. He’d probably get over it within the week and find something else to beat Tony up for. It was a dance that Tony had long since gotten used to considering Hammer’s parents could pay off the school, and Howard didn’t care enough to get involved in Tony’s life.

“You heard the nerd,” Hammer sneered, brave enough to go toe to toe with an absolute unit like Steve. Even Tony didn’t have the balls to face the peak of male perfection. “Just leave it.”

But of course, Mr. Big Blond and Busty refused to relocate himself and his massive rack. Tony sighed, pulling himself to his feet just as Steve was pointedly saying, “I will not just leave it, move away before I make you.”

Wrong thing to say. Tony leaned against his locker, recognizing the fury in Steve’s eyes. He’d had that look directed at him once upon a time. He grabbed his mechanical physics textbook out of his locker, slamming the door shut with a resounding crack that had both Steve and Hammer looking up.

Quick to get back to intimidation mode, Hammer balled his hands into fists, thumb on the inside. Maybe those weak punches would work on a runt like Tony but on someone as bulky as Steve? Hammer was about to end up in the ER with broken bones and split knuckles. Karma was a bitch.

“You’re gonna make me leave?” He taunted before turning and thumping Tony in the chest in what looked passably amicable. “We’re friends, right nerd?”

Tony crossed his arms over his chest, pain pulling at his abdomen. He was sure to have a painting of purpling bruises across his pale skin tonight, but he didn’t need Steve fighting his battles for him. They hadn’t been on the same side for a long time. “Right.”

Steve, always quick to be the righteous asshole in the room, planted himself like a tree and stood his ground. “I said leave.”

“Fine.” Hammer rolled his eyes, shooting Tony a dirty look that promised more pain later. Great, maybe Bruce would let him hide out in the supply closet he used as a panic room for the rest of the week. Tony blew Hammer a sarcastic kiss as the asshole left with a “bye, dweebs.”

Steve turned to watch him go and Tony took that as a cue to turn the corner while he was distracted and sprint down the hall. The last thing he wanted to do was talk to Steve Rogers, the asshole that broke his heart just as senior year was starting. They were so close to graduating and then Tony could avoid his perfect pale ass like nobody’s business from the comfort of his dorm room at MIT.

The squeaking of shoes down the hall told Tony that Steve was in hot pursuit, but like a gazelle fearing for its life and delicate feelings, Tony sprinted down the hall fearing for his life and delicate feelings. He turned a corner into the stairwell, headed to the parking lot where his car was haphazardly parked in the back of the lot.

Shit, the exterior door was locked. It was part of Principal Fury’s new initiative to cut down on smoking. What a Debbie Downer. Tony thumped his head against the metal door as Steve slowed to a stop beside him.

Double shit. The stairwell was empty. If Steve really were here to break his heart a second time, there would be no one to hear Tony’s screams as he died of embarrassment. It was probably for the best, he was told his screams resembled that of a dying bus fighting a chain-smoking leaf blower.

“Are you hurt?” Concern was not what he expected, but it was better than an all-out yelling match. Tony took a deep breath, trying to slow his breathing as he really thought about if he was hurt or not.

There was a lot to be hurt about. Justin Hammer using him as a punching bag, Steve breaking his heart eight months ago, the impending end of life on earth as they marched closer to oblivion. Tony shrugged. It could be worse, at least he was here, in high school. “Doesn’t matter.”

“Alright, well,” Steve scratched the back of his neck, a hopeful smile playing at the corners of his mouth. Tony immediately beat down the butterflies fluttering in his rib cage with a bug zapper. “I have to meet Nat. Would you like to join?”

“Uh… no.” Nat was one of the friends Tony convinced himself he didn’t want to keep in touch with after Steve left him in the dust to pursue popularity and football. Tony didn’t want to be tempted to ask their mutual friends about how Steve was doing so the only person he didn’t push away, on pain of death, was his science bro, Brucie-bear. “I don’t think it would be a good idea. But would you tell her I said hi?”

“No,” Steve said firmly and Tony resisted the urge to flinch back. With a firm hand around his wrist, Steve led him out of the stairwell and further away from freedom. Tony resisted the urge to let out a sad sigh. “But if you come with, you can tell her yourself.”

Tony frowned. This almost seemed like an olive branch. He wiped his wet mouth, feeling a twinge of pain as his fingers came away bloody. He had to look like an absolute mess. “I can’t stay long.”

“Didn’t expect you to.” Steve smiled, blue eyes bright as the sky and deep as the ocean as he passed a glance down Tony’s body. It wasn’t the kind of checking out that Tony wanted though. Steve was looking for injuries. “Are you sure you aren’t hurt?”

“It’s not anything I can’t handle,” Tony shrugged. He passed a hand across his stomach without wincing. He deserved an Oscar for that alone, Hammer was brutal when he was jealous.

“If I take you to meet Nat and you’re bleeding like that she’s gonna think I caused it.” Steve eyed Tony’s split lip pointedly, digging a tissue out of his bookbag. “Can I?”

Wiping blood off his lip was a surprisingly intimate move. Wasn’t Steve worried he would catch cooties or some immature bullshit like that? Tony hesitated, waiting for the punchline. “...Alright?”

“You’ll let me know if I hurt you?” Steve had an earnest expression written across his features, so Tony decided that maybe his ex-best friend wasn’t out to get him today.

“Sure.” Tony sat down at a bench by the bathrooms and Steve sat beside him. He was silent as Steve carefully wiped the blood off his chin, focused in a way Tony had never seen him before.

Without warning, Steve grabbed the hem of his shirt and before Tony could stop him, his AC/DC graphic tee was being lifted to expose his bruised midsection. Steve made an angry noise, almost like a growl, in the back of his throat as he splayed a hand across the hard ridges of Tony’s stomach. “Who was that guy?”

Tony ignored the way Steve was feeling him up, too tired to fight and make a sexual innuendo that would surely have Steve running for the hills. “Didn’t you hear him? A friend.”

Steve’s brows were pulled together, blue eyes almost black with fury as he fixed Tony with a hard glare. “He’s not your friend.”

“No shit…” Tony rolled his eyes, painfully yanking his shirt away from Steve’s grip. He stood up before Steve could reach for him again. “But he’s not much of a bother. I mean, he’s not usually that bad.”

Steve rose to his feet, heading down the hall. He got a couple of steps away, before turning and gesturing for Tony to follow. With nothing better to do, Tony complied, running down the hallway to catch up. Steve’s voice was dark as he asked, “What’s he usually like? Too dumb to hit a moving object?”

“Nah,” Tony shrugged nonchalantly as Steve pulled open the door to the Sports Med room. “Just too large to catch me.”

Steve nodded, grabbing a plastic bag off a shelf and filling it with ice. Dispensing a handful of paper towels, Steve held it to Tony’s stomach, careful not to press too hard and hurt Tony further. They sat together in the comfortable silence of the classroom, looking out the window together at the cars in the parking lot.

Steve smelled the same as always, like Irish soap, bike polish, and the American dream. Sitting in the empty class with him, Tony was reminded of that time they hid in an empty classroom for hours, hiding from their friends and an aggressive game of Would You Rather? They had spent hours sitting together, talking about nothing. The sports on tv, the recent bumfuck election, their futures.

Clearly, Steve’s mind was on the same train of thought because mumbled words were falling past his lips, almost too scared to break the comfortable silence. “I... don’t you miss this?”

“What, getting beat up?” Tony asked sarcastically. Steve was the one who threw their friendship away. All because he got beefy and decided he was too good to hang out with a fairy like Tony.

“No..” Steve’s perfect brow furrowed in frustration as he tried to get all his thoughts together. Tony knew the feeling. “Us getting along. Not having it be so hard all the time to just…”

“Get ourselves into trouble?” Tony suggested, just to be an insufferable asshole. It was nothing compared to how shitty Steve had made him feel.

“Forget it,” Steve sighed, frustrated as he looked toward the door.

“No!” Tony could swallow his pride enough to admit he missed Steve. Missed their late-night adventures in the woods, missed skinny dipping at the community center after hours, missed pizza picnics in the park and truth or dare, and sharing cotton candy at Coney Island. He missed Steve so fucking much it hurt. “I mean, uh, yeah; I miss this. A lot.”

“Does this mean you forgive me?” Steve’s voice was quiet, tentative in a way that Tony had never heard as he looked up at Tony with the biggest puppy dog eyes.

Tony cocked an eyebrow. “Is that an apology?” As far as apologies went, Steve honestly could have done a little bit better. Though Tony had already forgiven him. Probably since the moment he stepped up and stood up for him against Hammer.

“No,” Steve stumbled over his words, an admittedly adorable blush spreading across his face as he looked up at Tony through dark blond lashes. “I mean kinda. But there’ll be more.”

Tony grinned at Steve, bright as the sun, heart swelling as Steve hesitated before smiling back at him, just as happy.

“It means… maybe I’m willing to see what the apology is.”

Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative - One Night Movie Premiere

If you told me ten years ago that I would be able to regularly watch anime movies on the big screen in theatres I would have surely not believed you. Besides maybe a few Pokemon movies or an occasional film in some mega franchise I don’t particularly care for such as Naruto, the prospect would probably seem alien to me even. So it’s funny how times have changed and how anime screenings in theatres is becoming increasingly more common in North America. Just last month I was able to watch the phenomenal Dragon Ball Super Broly film in a packed theatre with a ton of other nerds and it was a delightful experience. Before that I got to see the fun anime version of Die Hard known as My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, and before that a love letter to Go Nagai known as Mazinger Z Infinity! Now only a month after Broly I get to watch an honest-to-God Mobile Suit Gundam motion picture in a theatre too? I feel like the luckiest guy alive. 

If I am being honest, I actually hate going to the cinema most of the time, and spent many years avoiding doing just that. I was always the type of person that was happy enough to rent a movie once it released on DVD/BD and that was the extent I would need out of cinema at large. The only exception I started to make was when Disney purchased Star Wars, and that was more out of fear that ravenous fans online couldn't keep their mouths shut than it was about anything else. Over the years however I started to develop a greater appreciation towards movie theatres at large and a lot of that has to probably do with anime. As I began to become a serious collector of anime and made the transition from my old DVDs to crisper BDs I realized I was at the point where as a fan I wanted the most out of my all time favorite movies--because these were not just my favorite anime movies but my actual favorite movies, and that’s when I realized I truly wish I could have seen them the way they were meant to be; on the big screen, with an insanely powerful surround sound system, with fans all gathered around cheering at the best moments. I will probably never get this experience for Akira, or Galaxy Express 999, or the many other films that mean the world to me now, but I can get the experience for future movies, so I don’t want to miss out ever again.

Gundam is one of my favorite franchises from my childhood. As a young kid I fell in love with the amazing robot designs and was blown away at the prospect of an anime that just felt so different from DBZ, which besides Pokemon was probably my only real understanding of anime at that age. As a teen and young adult especially the franchise became increasingly important to me and left a lasting impression on my psyche. I can’t tell you my favorite Gundam series nowadays because the answer will probably be different every time. Maybe I’ll say the original Mobile Suit Gundam, warts and all, it’s everything I love about anime from the 1970’s and to this day I still love the original Ocean Group dub from Canada. This dub while wooden and showing its age terribly will forever be etched in my mind as the definitive voices for most of the Universal Century characters despite Shuichi Ikeda buttery smooth, ecstasy inducing voice in most of the Japanese series. Maybe I’ll say Zeta Gundam as Kamile was a character my younger self identified a lot with and the series as a whole left a very strong impression on me. Maybe I’ll say Turn A Gundam, a beautiful psychedelic series that displays some of the best writing from series creator Tomino. 

So yes, having a chance to see any Gundam film in theatres was something I couldn't miss. Even if said film ended up just okay it wouldn't matter, as not in my wildest dreams did I actually think I would get this opportunity. I figured the closest I would ever be to seeing Gundam on the big screen would be if I happened to be in Japan for some reason around the time a new Gundam OVA or film was being screened. When Gundam Narrative tickets went on sale for North America I bought them the day online orders were opened and was even the first person to buy a seat at the theatre (thanks to reserved seating I could see nobody else had bought a seat yet). It didn't matter to me that I had to drive 45 minutes to the cinema, nor did it matter to me that I honestly knew nothing about Gundam Narrative, I just wanted to experience Gundam this way at least once in my life. And so last night I made the trek across the city and finally got to see Gundam like I never have. Now I have decided I want to share some of my thoughts and impressions about it. This won’t be a formal review, nor is it meant to be, as more or less I’m just expositing some of my thoughts, off the cuff.

First a little background information. Sunrise’s current "UC NexT 0100" project that tackles the next century of Gundam’s UC (Universal Century) time-line as well as their ambitious promise to deliver a new theatrical Gundam film every 1-2 years from 2018 onward is something to behold, so it’s no big surprise to me that the first film to kick off both of these initiatives would be a sequel to the highly acclaimed Gundam Unicorn OVA series. Saying Sunrise is kind of on a Unicorn kick right now would be an understatement after all. I actually don’t mind this so much however like a lot of people seem to, as Unicorn deserves all the praise it got and there is no two-ways about it being a pivotal factor behind Sunrise’s returning commitment to the UC time-line again after releasing nothing major in it for nearly a decade. Gundam Narrative serving as a sequel to Gundam Unicorn is something I am totally neutral about. 

My greater concern going into the Gundam Narrative film was more that Gundam and films have a pretty rocky history. Honestly most Gundam movies tend to be more on the awful side. If I had to rate all the ones I've seen I would probably only say Gundam Thunderbolt: December Sky and Gundam Thunderbolt: Bandit Flower are fantastic, the original Mobile Suit Gundam film trilogy is an excellent compilation movie series and a good enough replacement for its own television version, the Zeta New Translation films are incredibly disappointing and omit too much, Char’s Counterattack is a hot mess that barely makes a lick of sense, Gundam F91 would have been a fantastic TV show but as a movie it makes me sad, A Wakening of the Trailblazer is okay but also undone by its own weirdness, Endless Waltz is what you would expect out of Wing, the Turn A compilation movies are pointless, and G-Savior sure was … a thing that exist.

Well I am happy to say Gundam Narrative is among the rare films for the franchise that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish! A lot of this has to do with the scale being relatively small versus the usual scale in Gundam films that are way too big for their own good. Narrative’s laser focus on chasing after the missing Unit 03, the Golden Phoenix sibling to the two Unicorn and Banshee units we've seen in the previous Gundam Unicorn series allows it to tell a story largely separated from politics and the world at large--and let’s the characters become the main focal point of the film like any good movie should. 

This aspect alone is missing from so many other Gundam films and is partly why so many fail at being a good viewing experience. I’d say the few that do find that focus, mainly the Thunderbolt series of films and the original trilogy of movies made from the 1979 TV series are the best in the franchise’s filmography. A ton of other Gundam films tend to be bloated as well with rather boring middle sections, so the brisk fast pace of this 90 or so minute runtime for Narrative was a welcome relief. There are some awkward cuts to the film sure, but honestly I felt this beat sitting in the theatre for two and a half hours bored at the long winded middle section that goes nowhere like some previous Gundam films are especially guilty of. This was just enough time to tell a story of this scope properly. Of course the characters and scope of the story isn't enough to carry an entire film so the fantastic soundtrack from returning Unicorn composer Hiroyuki Sawano helped to sell a lot of scenes in the film as well.

The biggest factor that made Narrative for me however had to be the film’s focus on the more metaphysical aspects of Newtypes. Despite my disliking of a lot of Char’s Counterattack I still find the more psychedelic (so to say) aspects of it to be fascinating, just as I always have when such spiritual topics have shown up in prior Gundam works by Tomino and the many teams at Sunrise. While far from perfect I always enjoyed this kind of kooky spiritualism to the Gundam universe, a sort of new age 80’s science fiction interpretation of the soul would be the best way I can describe it but there’s no real way for me to do it justice nor to make it not sound ridiculous. Since Tomino has left a lot of Universal Century Gundam series have focused more on everyday soldiers instead and not so much on Newtypes, the future evolution of mankind, and the soul. In fact I always felt Sunrise somewhat shied away from a lot of these aspect to Gundam since then, so when we got to see this aspect return near the very end of Gundam Unicorn it was a nice treat to me personally. Having it permeate almost the entire runtime of Narrative’s story had me over the moon. A lot of people disagree, and more power to them, but I just can’t get enough out of the spiritual aspects seen in Narrative. 

Gundam Narrative being a modern UC time-line production means it of course has references and lore connections to a ton of other classic Gundam series and moments. I really enjoyed most them even if they were just silly fan service moments. I love that we got to see the famous Colony Drop drawn with modern day high budget animation and it wasn't just reused old footage. Getting to see clips of the Psycho Gundam ravage Hong Kong City was a joy on the big screen even if it lasted only about 10 seconds. I loved that we got to hear some of Char’s Dakar speech again in Narrative--this gave us an opportunity to hear Keith Silverstein, the modern English voice of Char since 2010 handle this legendary speech of his from Zeta Gundam. 

Speaking of the English dub my favorite performances were definitely Griffin Puatu’s portrayal of the protagonist Jona Basta that had to carry a lot of the emotional weight of the film and Stefan Martello’s portrayal of the off-the-walls insane Zoltan Akkanen who was just a pure fun villain that ate up every scene he was in. The Narrative Gundam itself being a reworked prototype of Amuro’s Nu Gundam from Char’s Counterattack four years ago was also a fun way to fit another Gundam into this time frame and I love it gave us such a classic looking Gundam in the Unicorn era of the franchise.

I had almost zero expectations for Gundam Narrative, and all I really wanted was the big screen experience for Gundam. As someone that loves the psychedelic spiritual aspect of Tomino’s old works, and someone with zero expectations that a Gundam movie can really be all that good anyways I walked away from that theatre last night loving what I saw. Gundam Narrative has me personally excited for the future of Gundam films, especially if it means we may see more theatrical screenings in North America for said films. This is probably not a film for everyone, and is definitely heavy on both your love of Gundam Unicorn and your love of some of the craziest stuff Tomino would whip out in his heyday of working on the franchise, but if you’re like me I think this one will be a lot of fun, even off the big screen.

Thought I would talk about my novels a bit more, just so you guys know what you all would be getting into.

So, lets talk about Novel 1.

The Rings of Gallilea: Sworn to Rebirth

(Aka: TROG/ TROGSTR)

So here are the main plot points of the novel:

It is the sacred duty of the Celestial Trinity (the Sun, Moon and Earth) to protect the life in their solar system from outside alien threats

An imperial speciest race known as the Cantillians dub Humans inferior to them, thus sparking a war between them the Celestial Trinity.

The nine planets ally themselves with the Celestial Trinity to protect themselves from a God-destroying weapon created by the Cantillians known as the Catalyst.

The Rings of Gallilea are formed in an attempt to protect the solar system.

The goddess of the moon utilizes their influence on humanity to create a re-birthing curse. As long as humanity shares legends of the gods they will not die.

During a battle with the Cantillian emperor (known as the Serpent) Earth is hit by the Catalyst, destroying his physical form.

One-by one the Rings of Gallilea and the Celestial Trinity fall.

Eventually it is only Mercury The god of knowledge, Moon, the goddess of magic and Pluto rhw God of Alchemy left

In order to save humanity, Moon forces Mercury to give her an "unforgettable" curse so she will retain her memories as a goddess.

Moon uses what is left of her magical power to trap the Cantillian emperor in a diffrent dimension, before she is killed.

Moon falls to earth taking on the form of a human infant.

She is found by the son of a former cult leader and raised moon aware of her godly identity.

Out of gratitude, moon grants her new father figure the "Power of The North Star" and shares a magical bond with him

Their mission now, is to locate the fallen Gods and prepare them for the fight against the looming Cantillian threat.

In summary:

The Rings of Gallilea is a magical Sifi adventure, with sub themes of romance, and drama. The message of The Rings of Gallilea is self-sacrifice, defying fate, humility and mercy along with second chances.

Lets meet our cast!

Luna Abyss- our female lead, Luna is the Goddess of the moon and Magic. Before what Luna refers to as "The Fall" she was regal, elegant and refined. Growing up on earth with her drunkard guardian Victor, and running from government officials who seem to pick up on Luna's signals wherever she goes changed her quite a bit. Luna uses her twin blades Artemis and Frigga to fight off the Cantillian forces sent by recon forces. Luna likes dancing to loud music at ungodly hours, getting fast food at midnight, dogs, and exploring places she probably shouldn't.

Terra Greenwood- Our male lead, Terra is the God of Earth, Nature and humanity. Terra grew up with his Grandma after his dad walked out on his drug-addicted mother. Terra is a member of the Apache Indians, and lives on a reservation in Greenville New Mexico. Terra, despite struggling with depression and minor anger issues, dreams of living a normal life. Getting a good education, a well paying job, taking his grandma and moving far away from Greenville....that Is until Luna shows up. Terra fights with his magic spear Gia, and can command Earth and Nature on a whim. While his abilities are still weak, with some training there is no doubt that Terra can return to his former Glory. Terra enjoys driving his old pickup truck down town, while listening to the hard rock radio station, helping his grandma take care of her garden, and hanging out with his best friends Mitchel and John.

Stella Brighton- our rich mean girl archetype. Stella is the goddess of the Sun. Stella grew up in her mother's mansion sheltered away from the middle and lower class, until one day she forms an unlikely friendship with Terra. An Unlikely friendship turns into an unlikely crush and an unlikely romance. That is until Stella's hopes and dreams are crushed when she discovers her mother and Stepfather have planned an arranged marriage for her. Stella breaks off her relationship with Terra and keeps her head held-high. Stella fights with her fiery bow, Apollo, and can spark a wildfire wherever she pleases. Stella enjoys shopping, traveling, taking selfies, and flaunting her status as Student Council President.

Mitchel James- the Nerd boy archetype, Mitchel is the God of Mercury, Knowledge and Communication (arguably revenge as well) As a young lad, Mitchel idolized his dad, who was in the military. Oftentimes it would be him and his mom while his dad was on deployment. Mitchel took a liking to computer science and technology, because thanks to that he was able to keep in touch with his dad even when he was far away. When Mitchel was 8 years old his dad died in active duty, and it wasn’t long until his mom took to a Sugar Baby lifestyle to try and provide for Mitchel without having to get a job. Mitchel is bullied at school for being the scrawny nerd boy, and takes revenge on his bullies by hacking into their computers and leaking their search history. After Luna rolls into town Mitchel's world is flipped upside down. Suddenly he isn’t armed with just brain-power but physical power. Mitchel fights in a way that is unique to the Rings of Gallilea. Mitchel can create Angels to fight as champions for him. He also uses a Chackram named Athena. Mitchel enjoys hacking into local security cameras to see whats up around town, exploring the dark web, arguing with radical political activists on-line.

John Kingsman- The play-boy Archetype, John is the God of Jupiter Kings, and lightning. John lives what is arguably the best life of anyone in the rings. His parents breed police dogs. Meaning his house is always full of puppies. John's dad is a former military officer, and both him and his mom are current police force members. John is the baby in his family, but is held to high standards. Be home before 7, get good grades, and take care of the dogs. John fights with his Claymore Sword, Odin, along with special abilities like lighting and psychological manipulation. John, obviously enjoys taking the dogs for walks, playing basketball, and going to the shooting range with his mom.

Hotaru Kawaguchi- The goth archetype, and Goddess of Saturn, Time and Death. Hotaru's parents immigrated to the United States after the death of Hotaru's older brother, Hikaru. They came here to give the intellectually gifted Hotaru better opportunities as she grew older. To help support her, the family opened a restaurant in the down town area that quickly became one of the most popular spots in town. Hotaru never really got over Hikaru's death, and took comfort in the macabre. Over summer, Hotaru picks up a second job to earn enough money to afford her dream car, working in an occult shop. She also finds herself involved in an unlikely summer romance. Aside from being able to freeze time and communicate with the dead, Hotaru fights with her staff, Hades, that can transform into a scythe. Hotaru loves books and quite sunny spaces, she likes painting, meditation, watching Elvira specials, and helping her mother and father learn better English.

Aries Vailakis- the Jock archetype, God of Mars and war. Just like Stella he too grew up with rich parents. His family comes a from proud Greek heritage, and own a chain of Mediterranean style restaurants. Aries is a star member of the football team, and is expected to take over the family business when he gets out of college. Most people think there isn't much to Aries other than food and football, sometimes Aries thinks that too. But being a competitive teenage god, can lead to some intense shenanigans. Especially when family, love and blackmail are involved. Aries fights with some seriously thick brass knuckles that spit fire. His brass knuckles can also transform into a large shield, Neiro. Aries likes cooking, working out, watching horror movies with his S/O, and very secretly likes looking at minimalist homes in the Greek countryside in homeowner's magazines.

June Smith, the flip Archetype, Goddess of Venus beauty, seduction and battle. June's mom divorced her dad to be with another man when she was young. Years later June would find out she died of cancer without telling her or her father. Needless to say June had a rough start in life. Given that her dad was the high school principal, she couldn't even act out and punch some nerd in the face. In the day light June masquerades as the nerdy turtleneck loving teacher's pet kinda girl. At night June flips ditching her turtle neck for something low cut and preferably leather. Sneaking out under the ruse of sleep or studying, June slips out to hang out on the edge of town with the local biker gang known as the Black Cat Bikers. Junes got the best of both worlds, her dad wrapped around her finger, and her legs wrapped around the back of her boys bikes. June fights with the sword Atalanta, and can change into any weapon June sees fit. June can also manipulate peoples hormones, making them fall for her or anyone. June will never admit it, but she likes wearing pink fluffy sweaters, she also loves getting fucking drunk, going out to see drag shows, sleeping in until noon, and playing with makeup.

Serena Paisley- The hippy archetype- Serena is the Goddess of Neptune, the ocean and family. Serena is the younger twin sister of Heath. Serena grew up close to her mother, who was somewhat of helicopter parent. Serena’s mother owns a brewing company, and is heavily involved in the Greenvile political scene. growing up in a spotlight Serena wanted to use her spotlight to encourage others to do good, and can often be found doing charity work. One big secret Serena has, is that she is a big fan of smoking weed. being a politicians daughter was a stressful job after all. Serena, can command any body of water and has great people skills. Her very loyal weapon is her trident, Namaka. Serena’s hobbies include Yoga, smoking weed, collecting crystals, playing the pan-flute, and thrift store shopping. 

Heath Paisley- The rich boy archetype- Heath is the God of Uranus, Ice, Snow and Vengeance. Heath, is the polar opposite of his sister. He grew up chasing the affections of his long-distance father, who is an actor in Hollywood. Heath has a cold demeanor, and takes a some-what sadistic pleasure in controlling others. He is the student council president at the private school he and Serena attend, Hayden Heights Academy. Heath is secretly insecure about his sexuality, and is in denial about being attracted to men. Heath spends a majority of his time covering for his sisters ‘distasteful shenanigans” in student council meetings, or following in the footsteps of his politician mother. Heath has the power to control Ice, and cold temperatures, he can also force criminals to admit their deeds.Heath fights with twin sickles Poli’Ahu and Endymion.His hobbies include: casual business luncheons, bossing his underclassmen around, and he secretly likes it when his S/O leans over his shoulder while he is trying to work. 

Romeo Barns- The rebel archetype- Romeo is the God of Pluto, Alchemy, and Transformation. Romeo has always felt like a social outcast, specifically because he discovered his godly powers at a young age. Romeo lives with his overly preachy preacher uncle, who believes in only one good god above. Romeo, being a sarcastic little shit, decides he needs to be everything his uncle isn't. Romeo sells weed for the Black Cat Biker Gang, his true "Family". Which is how a filthy little grunge rat like him became friends with Serena Paisley. Roemo's godly body grows organic blade-like structures which he can use to defend himself. His clawed-gauntlets, Thanatos and Cerberus add an extra punch. In his spare time Romeo can be seen around town riding his motorcycle. At night he is out spraying unique and vulgar messages on billboards. At school he likes to read the "boring unpopular books" like Catcher in The Rye and Lord of The Flies, and strumming along to his favorite songs on his base guitar

And thats just novel number 1! I'll make a second post about novel number 2 since this is already a quite lengthy post.

A Handy List of Character Fears

So, inspired by this post I saw by @word-nerds-united (a prompt blog), about people having the same old run-of-the-mill fears, I decided to make a post.

I’m noting that NONE OF THESE THINGS ARE MINE. They belong to the people who originally posted them. They’re just things I stumbled upon and searched for.

So onwards with the rant :)

Personally, I find it fun when a character has a fear. Fears can propel or set back an entire plot, character development or even relationships within a story. Sometimes these fears ARE the plot. They can result in conversations, events and sometimes even hilarious inside jokes.

Spoilers ahead y'all.

In Spiderman Homecoming and Infinity War, Tony Stark is constantly worried about Peter Parker. This is a driving point–he often risks his life to keep little Pete safe. This is what makes his death so much worse, and even more compelling. In Breaking Bad, the entire plot revolves around how Walter White has a huge fear of not being able to provide for his family and leaving them helpless and financially ruined. Fear causes him to make a really stupid decisions for money. The Shadowhunter Chronicles boasts an entire bloodline terrified of ducks. Odd? Yes. But it makes for some funny moments and often it is used for foreshadowing. It gives the Herondale family a defining trait.

This doesn’t mean fears of failure or losing loved ones or helplessness are completely useless. But you need fears that are constantly challenged throughout your story. 

For instance, Emma Swan from Once Upon A Time is afraid of losing her only family, or being separated from them. This fear works, because it is constantly challenged. But if we were to place this on a character in a story where their family stays safe, healthy and happy, it won’t work at all.

Fears can change: a character can overcome a fear, and no longer be afraid of it because it is irrelevant. They can gain fears, outgrow fears, or even have fears evolve from small to big, or from big to small. 

In The Mortal Instruments, Alec deals with the fear of coming out as gay to his friends and family, might cause them to reject him. When he does overcome this fear, it is replaced by his fear to tell them he is dating a Warlock, because he might suffer the repercussions. After this, he grows afraid that Magnus’ immortality might come between them--and later accepts that it would be his fate. His fears constantly shift, allowing for more character development

Fears can lead to obsession: People will do anything to avoid what they fear. It can be for self preservation, or because they just plainly don’t want to deal with it. This is usually something nice to add to a villain’s character sheet. 

Walter White starts as a man who is terrified of leaving his family alone and struggling financially. First the drug manufacturing starts as a way to avoid his fear. Then it becomes an obsession with power and money. A gradual transition from method into madness.

Fears can be small or big. A big fear (phobia) of spiders can send someone running. A small fear of heights can have someone hesitating to step onto a rickety old bridge, but doing it anyway.

While Harry Potter is afraid of spiders (like most people), but Ron Weasley has has an intense fear, or agoraphobia. Harry is slightly disturbed and somewhat terrified when they are faced with gigantic spiders. Ron, however, is so terrified he can’t speak. Phobias would perhaps cause the sufferer to go into a state of shock, immobility and speechlessness.

Fears are taught. Think children: small children aren’t afraid of nearly anything. Yesterday I saw a 3 year old little girl wanting to pet a huge ass tarantula. Or think of Pavlov’s dog--conditioning and training is a big part of fear.

Truman in The Truman Show (I love this movie so much omg) is deathly afraid of boats and the ocean. Why? Because his father died at sea while they were sailing. Your character’s background and experiences can reinforce fears, or even cause them. 

Fears can be rational or irrational. Rational fears are fears that have a clear, logical fear of a danger that is present. Irrational fears are unrealistic and exaggerated, and often pose no immanent threat to the sufferer.

Infernal Devices’ Will Herondale has an irrational fear of ducks. Ducks pose no real threat, and while he had a slightly bad experience as a child, his fear is slightly exaggerated in adulthood. Dr. Frankenstein from Frankenstein has a very rational fear of the  creature he created. Why? Because the creature is a big, scary, undead monster created by science. It also kills literally everyone he he cares about. Irrational fears do not have to be discredited--they can be funny or even scary if used correctly. 

Overall, fears make characters relatable, and makes them seem more real.

We often consider entertainment to be a daily bar of refreshment whether it be live shows, or it is theatre, or television-based. No matter movie experience is a different ball game all together it also allows us to live the character in the best way. One of the most prominent ways of representing such things is through movies & we have come across famous franchises in various genres. Below is one of the prominent genres which has been developed are as follows: 

 Into The MonsterVerse

 We have often come across many famous franchises which have a connected story. But we had never expected to see a well-developed monster franchise come up sooner or later. Below is the timeline been followed for the Monster Verse :

 Godzilla

 One of the famous monsters of Japanese literature, Godzilla is a monster who has been living in the earth’s ocean. In the initial franchises of Godzilla, the character was developed in a way as it was a byproduct of a science experiment, which has consumed coupes radiation and grown-up. But in the latest 2014 Godzilla movie, they did show prehistorical evidence of monsters & how there is a race of battles and survival between them. 

 Kong – Skull Island

 Though the previous franchises of King Kong did follow the story through Skull Island only. An Island is a home for King Kong & various prehistoric characters living on the island as well. But the new franchise of Kong – Skull Island revolved around the story of Kong being the ruler of Skull Island who is protecting the people from the Skull Crawlers who are not only a threat to humanity but also the island.

 Godzilla: King Of The Monsters

 The sequence of Godzilla revolves around the story of how Godzilla is one of the most superior monsters of all. Godzilla comes across as one of the most powerful Titans who are an actual threat to the universe. Godzilla & Mothra unite with humans to defeat King Ghidorah who has awakened Rodan and the other titans.  

 Godzilla Vs Kong

 The whole ambition of the monster verse was basically to develop a strong presence for both the characters. It started with Godzilla and the conflicts to what he is having with other titans who are hiding in the canvas of earth. Secondly, Kong was being introduced as the king of skull island fighting the skull crawlers to keep the island safe. But as both Godzilla & Kong are alpha titans they both would keep fighting till the end as it is in their destiny. But in the movie, the actual enemy is someone else & i.e. Mechagodzilla that is been developed by humans itself to give a tough fight to the alpha titans & destroy the world. But in the end, Godzilla & Kong unite to fight a common enemy and defeat it. If you are looking out for action figures for Godzilla then you can find them at action figures india.

Bernie Casey

Bernard Terry Casey (June 8, 1939 – September 19, 2017) was an American actor, poet, and professional football player.

Early life

Casey was born in Wyco, West Virginia, the son of Flossie (Coleman) and Frank Leslie Casey. He graduated from East High School in Columbus, Ohio.

Career

Athletics

Casey was a record-breaking track and field athlete for Bowling Green State University. In 1959, he helped the football team win a national championship. Casey earned All-America recognition and a trip to the finals at the 1960 United States Olympic Trials. In addition to national honors, he won three consecutive Mid-American Conference titles in the high-hurdles, 1958–60.

Casey was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1961 as the 9th pick in the first round. He played for eight NFL seasons (several positions, first five seasons mainly a halfback, last three seasons a flanker (setback wide receiver)): six with the 49ers and two with the Los Angeles Rams. His best-known play came in 1967 for the Rams in the penultimate game of the season against the Green Bay Packers. The Rams needed to win to keep their division title hopes alive, but trailed the Packers 24–20 with under a minute to play. The Rams then blocked a punt and ran it back to the 5 yard line. After an incomplete pass, Casey caught the winning touchdown pass from Roman Gabriel with under 30 seconds to play to give the Rams a 27–24 victory. The Rams defeated the Colts the following week to win the Coastal Division title.

Acting

Casey began his acting career in the film Guns of the Magnificent Seven, a sequel to The Magnificent Seven. Then he played opposite fellow former NFL star Jim Brown in the crime dramas ...tick...tick...tick... and Black Gunn. He played the title role in the 1972 science fiction TV film Gargoyles. He also played Tamara Dobson's love interest in 1973's Cleopatra Jones.

From there he moved between performances on television and the big screen such as playing team captain for the Chicago Bears in the TV film Brian's Song. In 1979, he starred as widower Mike Harris in the NBC television series Harris and Company, the first weekly American TV drama series centered on a black family. In 1980, he played Major Jeff Spender in the television mini-series The Martian Chronicles, based on the novel by Ray Bradbury.

In 1981, Casey played a detective opposite Burt Reynolds in the feature film Sharky's Machine, directed by Reynolds. He reunited with Reynolds a few years later for the crime story Rent-a-Cop.

In 1983, he played the role of CIA agent Felix Leiter in the non-Eon Productions James Bond film Never Say Never Again. He co-starred in Revenge of the Nerds and had a comedic role as Colonel Rhombus in the John Landis film Spies Like Us. Casey also appeared in the movie Hit Man.

Also during his career, he worked with such well-known directors as Martin Scorsese in his 1972 film Boxcar Bertha and appeared on such television series as The Streets of San Francisco and as U. N. Jefferson, the national head of the Lambda Lambda Lambda fraternity in Revenge of the Nerds.

He played a version of himself, and other football players turned actors, in Keenen Ivory Wayans's 1988 comedic film I'm Gonna Git You Sucka. He played a high school teacher in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, released in 1989. Casey appeared as a very influential prisoner with outside connections in Walter Hill's Another 48 Hrs.. In 1992, he appeared as a Naval officer in the battleship USS Missouri in Under Siege.

In 1994, Casey guest-starred in a two-episode story arc in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as the Maquis leader Lieutenant Commander Cal Hudson, and in 1995 as a guest-star on both SeaQuest 2032 as Admiral VanAlden and Babylon 5 as Derek Cranston. He has continued working as an actor. In 2006, he co-starred in the film When I Find the Ocean alongside such actors as Lee Majors.

Personal life and death

Casey enjoyed painting and writing poetry. Look at the People, a book of his paintings and poems, was published by Doubleday in 1969. He died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on September 19, 2017, after a stroke.
