I'm literally crying. Of course Reddit crapped out where I needed it to work the most. Someone was degrading another user for having Valentino as their comfort character. They also used "narcissistic" as an insult. I told them that that was ableist, and to knock it off, and they said that it wasn't ableist because Val was "clearly narcissistic" (??? tf) and to go bother someone else. I seriously can't handle this amount of rage inside my body, I wouldn't wish this emotional pain on my worst enemy. What the actual fuck is wrong with that person?

the majority of the cultural norms and ethos that the "X is punk actually" unfortunates post on this website actually apply in practice to juggalos (who can be variously described as leftist, anarcho-communist or syndicalist, self-organizing, self-policing, DIY, and majority working class or dirt poor etc) but i never see anyone on here post about the dark carnival or anything adjacent to it because ??? im not sure exactly, possibly something having to do with recency obscurity or just the basic hostility of the juggalo aesthetic. not even the clownfuckers on here are into ICP. i suspect this comes down to simple classism/racism because the ICP-adjacent artists are primarily rappers or include rap in their production and of course how closely aligned ICP and related artists are to poverty in the southern and central united states, particularly rural areas

some stories are written precisely to elicit strong emotions from the reader INCLUDING negative ones. some stories and characters are meant to be upsetting, they are meant to challenge you and make you uncomfortable!! when a story makes you feel Big Feelings sometimes you are meant to sit in those feelings and ask yourself why! fiction is a great space to explore these emotions in a safe environment. you, as the reader, are meant to think critically about the art you are enjoying and that includes asking yourself questions like why has the author presented their art in this way and what are they trying to tell me. and then you get to have fun picking it apart and figuring it out and deciding what, exactly, the art means to you.

So, fun fact:

John Constantine got a transfusion of some demonic blood to repair his injuries at one point (since the demon needed him healthy to complete a certain task), and it left some lasting effects on his body/soul.

I don’t yet have a single specific plot idea for how to have it contribute to the plot of a DPxDC crossover fic, but i feel like it could absolutely do something.

Like maybe it’s treated similarly to resurrection by Lazarus Water and leaves him a type of unhealthy liminal, but since this is demonic in nature, the corruption’s effects/treatment are way different from Lazarus stuff.

Or maybe it makes him just inhuman enough to fall slightly under the Ghost King’s control, leading to him being dragged into ghostly politics by that.

Or maybe he actually dies and becomes a ghost, but the blood makes him into a sorta half-ghost half-demon entity. Though the soul contracts would likely muddy the water even further with any “dying” stuff…

Hmmm, I’m not gonna lie, I don’t really like writing characters having one specific type unless it’s explicitly stated. Just because I like writing/thinking about all the different kinds of reader and relationship dynamics! I also don’t want to exclude someone from describing a physical body type as Simon’s ‘only’ type when I’m sure most readers aren’t a small petite white blonde woman haha. (Neither am I!)

But all that aside, I don’t think Simon has a physical type really! I think he would be attracted to personality more than anything else. As long as you respect his boundaries, don’t force him out of his shell to accommodate you and those around him I think he’d like you no matter what you look like. I’m big on writing reader who doesn’t treat him differently just because he hides himself behind a mask or might not be the best at talking or opening up.

I think he’s a massive acts of service man, so I think reader doing small things to show they care for him and see him for him is what will win him over. I think after that’s established he’d worship the ground you walk on.

Taller than him? Great! He’d bend at the knee’s any day for you. Chubby? Great! He’d trace your fat, rolls and all, with reverence, always have a handful. Older than him? Great! Could teach him a thing or two. Feisty? Great! He never backs down from a challenge, likes a little bite. Shy? Great! He’ll peel your layers apart piece by piece when he gets you all alone. Dominant? Great! His work is stressful, demanding, it’s relieving just to sit back and turn his mind off for a bit. Submissive? Great! There’s few things he has control of over his life, he can take care of you just the way you need.

i think the thing i'm most disappointed about with riordanverse fandom now versus like 2014 is not only has the fandom not gotten any less racist or queerphobic or ableist (in fact in some regards its gotten worse!) but now it's just boring too. like there's no fandom infrastructure anymore - the community these days is almost entirely source material-driven - and you deviate from canon even slightly people get weird about it. whatever happened to the post-HoO fanon boom. the fandom needs to get weirder again. and self-sufficient. and less offensive.

on one hand i get the criticism that inanimate insanity needs more disabled writers etc of marginalizations they aren't a part of but on the other hand inanimate insanity doesn't have a "writers room" its literally two (2) entire people doing all the writing for the show now and they're understandably very protective of their work so just "hiring more writers" is not a serious possibility

personally if id been working on a project for a decade and a half and it was extremely personal/close to me and something only me and a handful of other people i trusted very very much had really written/plotted out stories for i would be extremely apprehensive of anyone else doing ANY amount of writing for it. i mean i wouldn't feel comfortable just "hiring another writer" for my own ocs..... like these are literally my guys i created them?? im the Understander of them and i don't really trust another person with them or their stories

BUT i do think a sensitivity reader (probably soomeone they already actually trust vs just a random fan) would probably be for the best. even though there are already disabled queer and mentally ill etc etc people on the crew having someone to help objectively look over everything who doesn't have any bias might be a good idea. i would be worried about how fans would react if they disagreed with the sensitivity reader/s with the way things are portrayed but hopefully everyone could be reasonable. i dont know if they'll do that though maybe they're just gonna stop having disabled characters
