I've BEEN meaning to sit down with the legend OG Ron C and chop (no pun intended) it up about all sorts of things, and on this episode it finally happened with a bonus appearance by DJ Hollygrove. We talk about the beginnings of the Swisha House, The Chopstars and how they have evolved over the years. We discuss how both of us started out driving the promo van for a radio station in Houston, and later get into Ron's new career as a filmmaker/actor.It was great to see The Chopstars all around #SXSW2023, they definitely held it down all over the city. I even got a literal candle from @DJCandlestick. Crazy! Drank is a remix album, something I don’t normally go near, but this trap take on Thundercat’s Drunk is a surprisingly good chilled vibe. The elements of funk and RnB are still there, but slowed down and approached with a minimalist sensibility. Like most music within the trap genre it’s fundamentally designed to be background noise, so you do lose a fair amount of the highlights from the original, but OG Ron C and DJ Candlestick bring their own vibe to it.
