Howard University has an incredible resource on the civil rights movements for both black history and Indigenous (to north america) history, in addition to other relevant milestones (womens rights, queer history) in civil rights history within America.

It also includes linked citations and links to further readings and summaries of relevant law cases to each. Very good to understand the American context and how its culture was shaped.

This article in the New Yorker also highlights white fragility, and is about the book, White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo, which is relevant to the rp context and specifically some of the asks that have been going through tattler. A notable quote:

“I believe,” [DiAngelo] writes, “that white progressives cause the most daily damage to people of color.” Not only do these people fail to see their complicity, but they take a self-serving approach to ongoing anti-racism effort"

This is a great article (click the pdf link on the right side to read it in full) that also highlights the inter-relations between the construction of American railroads, and its relation to Indigenous land dispossession, slavery and Chinese labor exploitation.

The railroad, in short, accelerated the violent dispossession of Native American lands and the expansion of capitalism thereafter. Dispossession and racial capitalism initiated what he refers to as the “war-finance nexus” (p. 61) at the heart of nineteenth-century American expansion.

Finally, this article explores Americana, primarily through the arts, but it is a good intro into what American culture is perceived as. The article does not shy away from the Jim Crow era, and its important to highlight that these major symbols that define America is from white settlers and artists. It's a good read, definitely not capturing everything. A little snippet that sums it up:

I'm--I'm not--I'm still not entirely sure what a 'Discord' is, but it sounds like there's, there's a little community that we have here, so if people are struggling, make sure you're reaching out to people, um, that can support you, even if it's a virtual group like this. Hi dee! i know you said you hate talking about your major, but im going to college this year and I'm scared to go to architecture school 🥲 I want it really bad, but the way people talk about it makes it very unappealing 🥲

hi anon!!!!!!!!! ok ok so this probs going to be a long post, and I advise u to read every single sentencejzhsksb (under the cut)

ok so first of all, where i live, architecture school is 5 years + 2 years of internship = min of 7 years, then licensure exam. that is a VERY, VERY and i repeat VERY long time. and thats only undergrad.

architecture is a creative program, meaning u dont necessarily "study" to get by. there are a lot of theoretical courses ofc, and technically, u still need to study (and read a TON of books to know about design principles and standards and laws) but application takes up 90% of it. in archi school, u need not only to be creative, but u have to be strategic, technical, and be purposeful in everything u do bcs its a fusion of science+arts after all (im not kidding. instructors would cook u to hell when ur design is "perfectly technical" but NOT creative, but they will also stone you if it's "too pretty" but u cant provide a clear cut answer to a certain something's mechanism).

now heres the biggest con to me: in order to survive it you will genuinely have to give up a lot of time. deadlines are given to u upon deadlines. ur only lucky enough if ur prof is one of those angels from heavens above whos considerate enough, but theyre very rare (per my experience). drawing = solving problems, and in this program you NEVER stop solving problems. its very draining tbh, bcs every week is a 7-day stay in the deepest pits of hell of ✨conceptualization��� . i know no one, and i mean no one in my program who has a regular sleeping schedule, and even the most excellent time manager will sacrifice sleep in deadline week (which is every week 🤩) you will get to miss out on hangs with friends, family vacays and the likes bcs submissions just wouldnt stop. also, college is the reason why i started drinking coffee and energy drink. its unhealthy asf but i gen cant function without it now when i have my exams season. i also discovered i can go on full 48 hrs without a wink of sleep which is. AGAIN. unhealthy as fawk. , you will really have to toughen up your heart bcs the profs will always be honest and wouldnt hesitate to tell u to revise your work, no matter how much u think it's ok enough. they will keep telling u to revise until theyre satisfied lol.

another con is that its expensive as HELL. im very lucky im getting by on scholarships and i get allowances from them BUT i literally cannot imagine spending my familys money on all the things ive lent to this program 😭 when ur in first year u will still have to go manual so if u do not have the art supplies necessary, you'll have to buy them and again. THEY ARE EXPENSIVE AS HELL. and it doesnt end there bcs scale modeling goes on forever and its no joke. the materials are hard to fine (at least here) and their prices are ridiculous. then during higher years, you'll have to invest in a high-spec laptop (like gaming laptops) that will not give up on u under heavy use nvs ull be using a lot of software (that ur prods dont even teach you to work with 🤩 theyll jsut drop an instruction saying do this project in archicad and boom ur deep on 456 youtube tutorials which makes u question their existence in the first place but ANYWAY.

on the brightside tho.... its very very fulfilling, this major. architecture plays such an important role in our daily lives and it would feel really rad if we can be a part of that #beautiful thing. seeing the end of every project also pays back by teaching u handful of things. i also enjoy it when we get the chance to explore different building types like for instance my fave project i ever did was when we designed a physical rehabilitation center. ive never been in one before that but we got to explore it thanks to the project. also, you get to know people bcs u have and u WILL want to cater to their needs and wants – and as a girlie who wished she majored in psych thats the thing i love the most about architecture!!! it all boils down to people, how they move within and around space, and how u can help shape a beautiful & nice experience for them. its just a very very very interesting field

thing is, u need to be really dedicated if u want to go to archi school and survive. u have to be passionate abt it to push thru. if ur not really that sure abt it, i advice going against it lol. its just not worth it if its not smth u actually and really want (take that from me plsssjbsjxhsjwh). but if u really want to, then go! but just be really careful with that decision anon :')

A full day passed without incident.

Ted had clearly shared their little revelation with Bill and Charlotte, given their sudden fixation on wearing scarves whenever outside. That night, Paul received a text from Ted: "Pete's asked me to invite you over tomorrow. Ready for Round two of questions?"

Paul grimaced but texted back a confirmation anyway. Then, he remembered something.

When Paul arrived, everyone was already seated in the living room. Four mugs sat, steaming with hot chocolate. An episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was paused on the TV.

Richie, Ruth, and Pete claimed the sofa with matching expressions of tension and curiosity. Before any of them could speak, Paul held up a notebook of his own. "Would this help?" he asked. "What's in it?" Richie asked right back as he accepted the notebook. "My... observations from my first week of -" Paul found himself unable to say it, so simply waved a hand over himself.

Instantly, all three of them lit up. Quickly opening both notebooks, Richie made himself busy transcribing while Pete looked back over his list of questions. "Huh, that was easy," he muttered to himself, crossing and ticking specific things as he and Ruth read over Richie's shoulder.

Although, clearly not everything.

"So, can you only do the bat thing then?" Richie asked almost immediately after finishing. "What?" Paul blinked in confusion. "Yeah, I found this real cheap copy of Dracula, and in that vampires can turn into wolves and even mist," Ruth explained, both Pete and Richie nodding in agreement, "Can you do that too?"

Paul honestly had no clue. Although, checking didn't seem too hard. It didn't take him that long to work out how to turn into a bat after all.

So, Paul focused on the general shape of a wolf. He wasn't really expecting anything to come of it. Naturally, when his body quickly changed to match, he was just as shocked as everyone else.

Ted had unfortunately chosen that moment to take a sip of his hot chocolate, resulting in a fairly loud coughing fit that made everyone jump. Turns out, wolves are larger that one would think they are. "Holy shit!" Pete exclaimed quietly as Ted wheezed in his armchair, "You doing okay, Paul?"

Once he'd adjusted to looking down and seeing thick fur and paws, Paul nodded. "Damn," Ted finally managed to breath again, "and here I thought you were fluffy as a bat." "I kinda want to pet him," Richie suddenly admitted under his breath to Ruth. And, in the privacy of his thoughts, Pete lowkey wanted to as well.

Shifting back was just as smooth as with the bat, leaving Paul human shaped once again. "Okay. Okay," he nodded, slowly absorbing this new information, "Okay." "So, I'll put a 'most likely' next to mist," Pete slowly stated. "Yeah."

"Do you need to be invited into places?" Richie asked once everyone was fully settled back down. "Not too sure," Paul frowned in thought. "Ok, we can test that later," Richie muttered under his breath before turning back to Paul, "What about crosses?" Paul just shrugged almost helplessly. "When you turn into a bat, how does it feel to sense infrared?" Pete leaned forward with great interest gleaming in his eyes. "Can you still get hard?" Ruth suddenly butted in.

As Ted spat out another poorly timed sip of hot chocolate, Paul internally sighed. It was going to be a long night.

Right. So. Let’s say that time exists. Is that an absolute? Did I just absolute? Is it possible that time doesn’t exist? If now and past and future are just words that we use to categorise our observations… And if our observations are basically life/biology pushing back on entropy for a bit, we’re like the subatomic particles breaking the rules of the universe and nobody outside can see us. Like there’s an uncertainty principle in the other direction and we’re now the quantum building blocks of a universe too large for us to see.

And if that’s the case, is size just another dimension?

It has certainly been a while since my last post, so let's play a game of:

Grimdaaks Life Update!

The rules are simple, you sit there as a captive audience and I ramble into the void about my life! Huzzah! Let's begin!

University has been going pretty ok actually. My software engineering course has finally about to get better and my network engineering course is slowly making more sense to me

Work life, however, is not going well. I gotta find a new job pretty quickly, hopefully something that pays well enough to support my rent and studies

Other misc events are going ok, I've finally begun to eat again so that's pretty cool!

I've gotten back into stargate again! I'm currently on season 9 of SG1 and season 2 of Atlantis. I'm enjoying it a lot actually, I wish I had gotten back into it sooner.

I've joined a few DnD and pathfinder games! I finally get the opportunity to play the titular Grimdaak the Anxious character! Huzzah!

I'm hopefully gonna get an ADHD diagnosis soon, which is very cool and fun! Self-diagnosis has been my main thing for a while, but if I want government siooort then I'll need an official diagnosis which sucks, but that is how the chips fall.

Yeah hi I was bored n thinking about this idea and also wanted to do a style study for toh, (ignore that I had to use bases for the bodies I couldn’t draw them😭 my lines where too shaky I’m not the best at tracing stuff so I cheated a tiny bit) I had originally thought of this idea ages ago in a doodle where they all went to hexide and it was more a high school au if anything but now that the show is further along I thought of a more fleshed out idea for this hypothetical au!

Technically this could count as just a regular Ahit toh au BUT I based it off of ideas and hcs in aau so yeah I’m sticking with that

Also the characters aren’t one to one with toh characters it’s more just a “how would these characters and their story translate over to toh universe” thing but most characters can be tied to a toh character as being based on/in the role of if that makes sense like I said it’s a bit of a mixing pot with the characters

Uh yeah info about the basic idea for the characters/story:

The whole story with prince and Vanessa instead of prince getting locked in a cellar to die van curses him instead, but somehow idk how yet he ends up turning the tables and splitting the curse with her. I like the idea that prince is from his respective time period as Ahit and falls through a time pool so we get the same concept of this guy is old and from a long time ago just with skipping over the death ghost part so yeah he gets sent to present Snatcher is basically the eda character he has the curse and takes elixir (which I hc is blue bc haha Ahit reference)

If it’s not obvious from her design Vanessa is the belos of this au lol Probably instead of the emperors coven it’s something like the Queen’s court? I think it’s got a neat ring? Anyway yeah uh not much to say about her she’s basically the same lol, also I like the idea she uses illusions to hide her appearance and also to manipulate mj and the citizens 👀

mj is basically a combo of s2 Lilith and Hunter! He’s a grimwalker made by Vanessa to replace prince basically he’s made to be her perfect fairy tale Prince Charming that loves her and would never ever betray her <oblivious But yeah same idea as Hunter of being made as a clone of someone else BUT they’ve got a more similar role to Lilith in which they end up befriending the main cast and living with them Also included their “golden gaurd” design not sure what to call it? Moon prince? Moon something idk lol you guys might could help with that but yeah that’s the fit they got when with van also we got blood Amy too in which Vanessa gives her curse to mj after finding his palismen (she eats them belos style ofc lol) speaking of I still need to draw the palismen but I have some cool ideas!

Dels idk what to say besides uh she lives with snatcher n we still got the qpr going ofc lol sorry I don’t got much on her 💔 though I DID consider making her a star child to go with the twilight god thing but I also considered making eclipse a star child because the design is similar plus gives an excuse for him to be here without the fusion plus I think Vanessa using eclipse sounds cool it makes sense he’s prince in canon so like ofc she’s drawn to him but yeah still thinking about that

Time twins are our luz stand in, hc timmys jacket is snatchers like luzs jacket is eras bc I think it’s cute lol dont question why he has it idk I didn’t have the time pool idea at the time and bow is kinda like the willow/gus of the group and mu is the amity? Mu being a bully at first until joining the friend group n stuff and bow being the sweet straight man to the rests antics

Drawing time twins with round ears was cursed Anyway mu is a hybrid still, She’s half witch half eberwolf species! Cooking cat and Sam get to be her bio parents here instead of adopted so that’s cool

Shapes is the Vee stand in and omg they where really fun to design

I like the idea of the changelings/council being titan trappers? Considering they’re a cult? I think it sounds cool so maybe like shapes sneaks in with a disguise or like the trappers take them in or the trappers are basilisk in this universe? Idk considering no one in the cast is a titan it wouldnt really make sense so like maybe they are basilisk or basilisk hunters? Still chewing on the council lol sorry

Sorry I’ve been putting it off BUT curses!: basically same logic as canon they go by eda and belos logic respectively so van is a creepy skeleton cryptid ass monster and snatcher is a animal beast! BUT he’s not a bird like eda or Lilith ,and also not a snake though that would fit in being a more obvious choice, he’s ACTUALLY a ferret! Mostly bc I thought it was funny but it stuck lol they are furry and noodly so it works, plus I’m a sucker for the monster has innocent name but is actually terrifying trope lol, also idk about blood moon? They get cursed yeah but I don’t think they get transformed into anything mostly bc I have no ideas for them lol plus it’s more focused on the illusion hypnosis whatever abd not the curse itself

Anyway on to covens/magic specialties! The kids are obvious because they have the uniforms lol but I’ll still list them anyway: Time twins: Oracle/illusion Bow: beast keeping Mu: constructed Prince: Oracle/bard Snatcher: Oracle/potion Delilah: plant/healing Mj: bard Vanessa: illusion Shapes: abomination

But yeah that’s kinda it lol I do plan to add more doodles or ideas later but yeah hoo boy these took forever but it was a fun style challenge plus fun to design everyone!
