Anxious Manwhore AU: Extended family edition

Yes, yes, and yes. To those not in the known, Laertes was Ody's father. Specifying this because there's also Hamlet character of the same name lol.

My musings under cut!

Laertes having unspecified sort of mental illness resulting in psychosis just Makes Sense. Maybe he had schizoaffective disorder? Jumping between depression and (hipo)mania he has shown Odysseus how to deal with various mental states, and although it was a huge baggage for the entire family, Ody loves his father to bits.

Odysseus knows his father both as his best (hunting that fucking Boar; Argonauts) and the worst, his depressive episodes when he wouldn't want to even show his face to the people.

When Ody starts experiencing hallucinations and delusions, Laertes tries to help as much as he can with his experiences.

They both feel pretty helpless about the state of the lineage though, because who would want to marry someone with such baggage, even if they were a king?

And then comes Penelope. Penelope with her own baggage, but so much understanding and resourcefulness, she completely blows them away with her methods of dealing with mental stuff. She listens, understands, and helps.

Laertes has a conversation with Odysseus that goes: "if you don't marry her and worship the ground she walks on, I'm going to disinherit you". It's an empty threat, they both know Odysseus already worships the ground Penelope walks on.

Later, once they're expecting a child, Laertes prays to any god who listens that little Telemachus (or Telemachia, depending on what gender the child is gonna turn out) doesn't have the same baggage as his father.

The gods only kind of listen.

Telemachus is autistic. (Did you know autism was considered a symptom of schizophrenia until very recently? Like. It literally was not considered its own thing until like 1980)

More on my headcanons later, I really need to do my homework now, but to reiterate: I completely agree with the tags. Especially since I'm schizoaffective myself.

Hell Polycule chart

Hey. Hey Swamp, shouldn't you be asleep? It is *checks notes* 2:30am and you have an exam today!

Yes, thanks for asking, I should be asleep. Alas, I am not. Here, have a polycule chart I made while reevaluating stuff.

The ages in the brackets are as they are at the beginning of the series. It will be a year or two later before the polycule forms, aside from Mai and Zuko being together, and Aang and Katara being together. Toph and Zuko are qpp as mentioned in previous post.

I might make Suki (ignore the double 'k' in the screenshot) and Ty Lee an established pair. Would add onto the angst later.

Anyways yeah that is all for now. I'm gonna try to sleep now.

Do you know soulmates? Of course you know soulmates, who doesn't know soulmates. What if instead of having the predetermined person who will complete you, you chose among other folks and literally woven your souls together? And if the ritual failed you'd feel hollow until you found someone willing to share their soul with your ripped one forever?

This idea is just bouncing around my brain. Has been for months.

In a fantasy world, being able to share your magical abilities with one another if you wave your souls together, so a person wants to have a certain soulmate just to further their magic, and nuh-uh it doesn't work like that.

Shame on you. Shame on your cow.

I wanna write a ShinDeku story about that, that starts as your usual BakuDeku and KamiShin. I want to break some stereotypes on the characters' heads. I want to do so many things.

Quick update on the Anxious Manwhore AU!

I'm lowkey dying. So much homework. But! I figured out most of the melodies for the song!

I'm currently only alive through the power of Black Energy Drink and a cancelled lecture. Choir tonight. We'll see, if I don't sleep much there might be an update or a snippet or SOMETHING in like 6 to 8 hours. As usual I promise nothing.

Things me and amazing @ofekma came up with while on the train thanks to this post (BECAUSE IF THIS ISN'T WRITTEN YET I WILL WRITE IT THE MOMENT I FINISH WATCHING AVATAR): {disclaimer: this isn't in order}

Katara does a laundry list of what they need to do and Zuko just blanches

they decide to go on a trip exactly like the last time except they pick up Toph first

that means Toph gets to meet Bumi

Iroh is fully on board with everything

Zuko: "But I was meant to kidnap you! Not the opposite!”

They're like "Hi Azula! Bye Azula!”

Aang: “Would be nice to get Azula to not lose it this time.” Zuko: “Pretty sure she lost it when she was six. Maybe she never had it. Who knows.”

Since they have all the character development already (aside from Zuko) they manage to avoid a lot of problems aside from destroying the Cabbage Man's stand ever so often

coming back to Bumi, he wants to fuck with them but they fuck with him first, especially Toph and Aang. Zuko watches with wonder.

Haru situation: they just sick Toph on them. I mean, the entire ship is metal and she knows how to metal bend, that's like giving her candy. The gang, of course, helps, but like, they let her have fun with that while Zuko watches in amazement that it's even possible.

remember the episode with Bato? Zuko and Toph get to be called honorary members of Water Tribe and Zuko at first hates it on instinct and then realises that since he's banished from Fire Nation that means he just found new home for however short it is before he reclaims the throne if that happens

Toph's reaction is just "Sweet!"

coming back to laundry list, they have a whole lot of people to save, but they do it with even more vigor and joy and it's GREAT

I'll add onto it as our conversation continues (if it does).

I’ve seen fics when Zuko timetravels to the past and have to undo his mistakes and gain Gaang’s trust etc. But how about Gaang timetraveling to season 1 time and meeting anry ponytail Zuko. Like they would definetely catch some fun nostalgia but then quickly remember why he is like this and what person he is actually is(something they didn’t know before) and just decide to aggressively smother him with love. Iroh does not understand what is going on but greatly appreciates this weird group of teenagers(is that an avatar??) who just jumps on Zuko for some extra care not matter how loudly he shouts his protests XD

In all seriousness though, thank you for the ask. Qingling is my baby.

So! Some key things about Qingling:

· it is 19 now, started working in the palace around 2 years ago.

· it is a master of all things paper

· that does mean it controls all letters that go from and to the palace.

· that also means it is a record keeper!

· Qingling also should be responsible for hiring folks but uh, Zuko does it instead. he's paranoid sue him.

· Qingling is an earthbender, coming from a mixed family!

· it is a powerful earthbender, capable of keeping things in its control without much thought. that's how its 'necklace' works!! Qingling just bends it to stick to its skin!!

(why it bothers with it is connected to a rule placed by Zuko, but I'll talk about this sometime else)

· it cannot do many things Toph can though, which frustrates the living dung out of it. Toph is smug about that.

· another thing is: it feels like a part of the Fire Nation, as it was born in it and grew up in it. that means among other things that Qingling wears red-black-gold colour scheme clothes, and avoids greens like fire, or, I guess like earth (heh)

· Qingling spars with Zuko regularly. sometimes in front of would-be assassins. just to confuse them.

· it also confused Aang the first time he saw it because… well. it isn't everyday you see The Fire Lord fighting his Servant.

· Qingling has known Qingling is not boy or girl for a while and wasn't really accepted for it for a long time but then Zuko asked people to advertise he'll hire anyone even with massive oddities and Qingling was like "that's my chance." and applied. Zuko didn't even blink when Qingling told him to refer to Qingling only by name, and so it did its best while working for him which ended up with it being promoted higher and higher eventually replacing the head record keeper, whom Zuko didn't like so it was a win-win for everyone (but the old record keeper)

· if I was to label Qingling with modern labels it would be genderqueer but I doubt anything besides gay, bi and trans has been explored in this universe (I'm not saying those states don't exist, just that they don't have names to it)

· speaking of queerness, Qingling is also unspecified queer sexually! Qingling is attracted to those it is attracted to. try to quantinise and label that!

· Qingling is also autistic as fuck. I based it on myself but turned up to eleven. it is blunt, doesn't get some social cues but knows other ones. follows rules to the T and loves routines + gets mildly distressed when they're broken.

· I was thinking of giving it neopronouns and ADHD and several other things but I decided against it. I did give it viltigo though!!

· Qingling's hair is treated with copious amounts of sun (which it calls greening. cuz. yk. plants love sun.) and salt + lemon juice mixture! it makes the hair lighter in colour and after years of treatment it is its famous in the palace shade of dirty blond.

· it does make Qingling stand out in crowds, as when you think about it light-coloured hair is rare in-universe which I find cool.

In conclusion Qingling is my specialest little baby and I love it.

Post-Canon AU of A:TLA? Why not!

So say what you want about my posting schedule (it's horrendous and nonexistent, which shouldn't be possible because how can it be anything if it doesn't exist?) but when I get an idea I usually at least start writing it.

So, I posted two fics a few hours ago, "To Reunite in Less Than Perfect Conditions" and "Qingling's Tale". They're both post-A:TLA fics, set two years after the book 3 finale and there's more to come.

Basic premise is: Beifongs aren't happy that Toph hasn't returned home. So they're trying to create social unrest against Zuko. Perfectly logical plan, that is totally going to give them their daughter back. Hrng.

If you went as far as to click on the links, you probably noticed the series is called Hell Polycule. Well, that's the end goal. I was brainstorming things and decided that Air Nomads were polyamorous and polygamous society (although marriages were rare. very rare.) and that the idea was forbidden during Sozin's, Azulon's and Ozai's reign. Zuko took one look at the rules and decided "nope, not doing that" and reinstated the possibility as legal.

There's more factors to why anyone in the Gaang and outside of it agreed to polyamorous relationship but I'll leave that to text of the series. Probably. Might come here and ramble about it.

Either way, early parts of the series will have mostly Mai/Zuko and Aang/Katara, later instances will have relationship experiments.

Oh also, I have many shiny brand new OCs that need some love. Qingling is my baby.

it's come to my attention that a lot of people don't know about bluemaxima's flashpoint and genuinely think they'll never be able to play their favorite 00s internet games ever again so i just want to remind everyone that flashpoint is a huge internet flash game preservation project that allows you to play just about any internet flash game/animation despite the death of flash. if they've got it in their database (and they probably do) you can play it. go forth and drink in the 00s nostalgia

even if you think there's no way they'll have the game u want. they probably do anyway. when i first downloaded flashpoint i thought for sure theres no way they will have the obscure flash game i played for hours as a kid that was only even available on the internet for like 2 months in 2006. but you know what. they had it. seriously, download flashpoint

TOA AU where…

When the Trollhunter receives their amulet, they hear the name of the next Trollhunter. It's to ensure they're properly trained before receiving the mantle.

And so when Kanjigar receives the amulet and activates its power for the first time, he hears “Jim Lake Junior”.

That… doesn't sound like a trollish name. That doesn't sound like a trollish name at all!

He consults Vendel and Blinkous and they come to a conclusion that it's a human name. Oh woe.

After days spent on trying to rip their horns off from stress because what if they're gonna be a changeling?? Huh?? Vendel whacks him on the head and tells him to stop worrying. Whatever comes, comes.

It's not until nearly four centuries later when he hears the name again. He was hiding from sunlight in a mini-forest near human dwellings when he heard a woman screaming “James Lake, you are not going to leave me here with our son alone!”

He watches, with batted breath as the male human does indeed leave. Feeling a pull of fate he sneaks into the house during night fall, and hears the woman talking to a sleeping child. “Oh Jim… how are we going to get through this…?”

He found him. He found Jim Lake Jr, the future Trollhunter.

He sneaks out, the same way he sneaked in, and goes to consult Vendel.

“He is but a whelp! A human whelp at that!”

“Well, we're gonna have to work with that. Somehow.”

They decide to wait a few more years until the kid looks like he could pick up a training sword and not fall over, and then they reveal themselves to his mother and him.

Barbara Lake is a demon in human skin, Kanjigar swears. The woman is protective as all hell towards her son, and she proved that by breaking a broom over his head. Kanjigar briefly entertains a thought of her being a Trollhunter but drops it quickly. Amulet chose Jim.

And oh Great Gronka Morka is Jim different. He's a soft, empathetic boy who doesn't shy away from them. Sure, he was scared at first, but curiosity and wonder won. And when he learnt about being tasked with protecting a race he hadn't known existed a few hours earlier? He took it in stride, saying he'll do this.

Essentially Jim gets three troll dads (one dies, sorry) and learns how to be Trollhunter much earlier on.
