Ranpo Edogawa Agere Headcanons!

Ranpo typically regresses to 4-7, but he’ll rarely regress to 2-3, mainly when he’s been stressed or upset over something.

He’s been regressing since he was younger, around when he’d first joined the agency. At the time he didn’t have a word for what he experienced, but Fukuzawa would look after him and keep him out of trouble.

He’s confident with his regression, and isn’t anxious about mentioning it around new people, or acting childish in public.

He loves playing pretend! He’ll go all out with making props and costumes and perform plays for the Agency! Most of his stories are dramatic retellings of his adventures as World’s Best Detective, in which he stars as the main character and hero.

He loves playing with Atsushi, and usually casts him as his assistant in his stories! Atsushi often buys him toys and sweets.

He sees Yosano as a big sister, and looks up to her. Yosano finds it adorable to have a small sidekick following her around, and always has his best interest in mind. She can get rather protective at times.

Dazai is always in the audience of Ranpo’s performances, he adores them and always gives Ranpo encouragement and advice on how to make his stories even better! He’s usually the one that helps Ranpo create costumes and props for his shows, and always has the best ideas! Tanizaki never minds looking after him, even if he is a bit anxious when it comes to kids, since he worries he’ll do something wrong. He always carries sweets on him just for Ranpo, and participates in his games.

Naomi reads him stories, she gives the characters different voices and always manages to make him laugh! She also makes the best angel milk out of anyone in the agency. She’s usually in charge of getting him to sleep, but she plays games with him as well.

Kunikida is a busybody, and is nearly always working on something, but he does his best to work in time in his schedules for Ranpo’s shows and other things. Whenever Ranpo wants his attention randomly and it’s not pre-planned, Kunikida will let him color next to his desk while he works.

Fukuzawa is who Ranpo sees as a father figure! He hangs around him constantly, and often tries to mimic what he does since he looks up to him. He loves to stay in Fuku’s office and color, play with toys, etc! He has a HUGE collection of toys, stuffed animals, games, and sweets. The agency members are almost constantly buying him new things to add to it.

Ranpo loves getting up and moving when playing. Jumping, running, skipping, chasing, he’s very energetic and almost always doing something new to hold his attention! But when he’s regressed younger, he usually goes nonverbal, and is much sleepier, so he likes to watch cartoons! The Agency members always let him win when they play board games.

He invites Poe over for playdates often! Whether Poe is another regressor or an adult playmate, is your interpretation. Poe has begun writing children’s stories for Ranpo, and helps him come up with his own stories too! They love to get creative together.

Mushitaro doesn’t look after him much when he’s regressed, but he does get roped into his shenanigans whenever Ranpo comes over to Poe’s mansion for their playdates. He’s like a stressed mom when Ranpo is around, he’s constantly fawning over him and cleaning after him as well.

he’d probably be fairly confident and practical about things. i don’t think he’d  be one to be nervous or freak out really. 

he may have knocked her up on purpose. like, without her being aware. i’m sorry but that just feels like a jasper thing to do, given his whole route being… how it is.

i think they’d have like three girls, one single and a set of twins, and a while later, one boy

this puts knight even more out of his element because not only was marriage and fatherhood outside of his expectations but little girls are something he especially has no experience with 

but he’s very good with them

indulges them HEAVILY because this bitch cannot say no to any of these little blue eyed babies 

lots of letting his girls dress him up at tea parties and the like 

coming to work with stray glitter and stickers on his outfits on occasion 

falls asleep with them in their room while tucking them in, mc comes in and he’s sprawled out asleep with the kids laying on him 

their boy is a surprise addition but knight is fucking THRILLED 

the girls have gotten older and independent and he’s fucking pumped to have another little buddy around 

he enjoys being a dad, having a family- he hasn’t always had one so he doesn’t take it for granted and tries to be the kind of parent he’d liked to have had

takes a bit of persuading before he learns to calm down (kinda)

when the mc goes into labor he somehow manages to rally that anxiety into action and is fairly helpful, though he’s obviously in a puddle of guilt and worry the entire time 

tino cries when all his children are born. cries a lot. thanks mc profusely, apologizes for the pain, etc 

having been mr. mom for lynt helps him with baby and kid stuff obviously 

he’s probably the most actively involved, to such an extent that the mc is like, “damn let me take care of our child too tf 😒”

tino can’t breastfeed (obviously) and he apologizes for this inadequacy because he would help if he could 😩

tino, like dia, runs around with a baby strapped to him pretty often

running around to find young master with a baby in the carrier

i think tino has three sons 

marriage and fatherhood helps tino grow more of a backbone- like he’s been protecting people before but the experience makes him more proactive about things

like given his experiences with daan he’s very careful to ensure that his children know how to treat others and how they should be treated

as for that whole head-valet thing with his family, when tino is in charge the expectations are very different. much less pressure, more emphasis on playing to people’s strengths rather than grooming an heir into the position. he encourages his boys to pursue their passions 

tino as a dad cries at literally all of their major milestones. first steps, first haircut, first day of school, first time riding a bike, etc etc. this embarrasses them a bit but hey. that’s just tino. 

all of tino’s sons somehow end up even taller than him. simply gigantic boys. they make him look short.

okay so similarly to hawke: if the baby’s unplanned and before getting married, he’s proposing immediately

i think he’d be even more upset with himself because like- 

grayson is fairly traditional in my mind. like he’d feel like he committed some kind of grave sin against mc if she’s pregnant before they’re married

i think it’d take some convincing from mc for him to stop beating himself up about it. like no forreal i’m happy grayson pls 🥲

i think they’d have a wedding real fast at that church on the hill, yknow the one 

i remember that grayson lost his dad as a kid and his uncle stepped in until he died (?), so grayson has some idea of what to do- but i think he’d be feeling that lack of role model and would probably, despite his professionalism, be visibly stressed 

i can see roy and sherry organizing to help him, cheer him up, encourage him a little

sherry bakes him some horrifying scones to make him feel better and the gesture works even if the baked goods... don’t 

i can see roy’s dad (forgetting his name lol) giving him some advice about raising kids. very cute 10/10

grayson, like dia, would be very protective and would probably have his hand on the bump as often as possible 

i think as time went on he’d get very emotionally invested, very attached 

trying to talk through her stomach to the baby at night

Ikr?! There’s something about being in a community that just adds to the whole fandom experience. May it be hundreds of people or just one person, at least there is someone out there who looks forward to chatting with me (it doesn’t even necessarily have to be about fandom either, it could just be something as simple as talking about how our days went). The fact that someone values my thoughts, likes/dislikes, etc, who values ‘me’ as a person, yk? (Idk how to really describe it but hopefully my point gets across). Very valid fear. Luckily I’m such a small account, and have very few fics published, that I fly under everyone’s radar. Not even a sparkle in anyone’s eyes. But, yeah. Getting rude anons/comments would for sure take a blow on my already fragile confidence. Couldn’t even imagine if I saw my art or/and fic on a call-out or cringe post, honestly going into hiding at that point. I get not liking something, I get finding something cringy but at the same time don’t call that person's work out??? Common decency. Especially those really big accounts. The fact that some of their followers are so cult-like and take it upon themselves to harass others ‘on behalf’ of the person they follow????? Would not want to get caught in the crossfire. Fr, Fr!!!! Hurt no comfort is one of the few things I can dish out but can’t read 😭. Like, don’t hate me dear readers this is just how the characters wanted the story to go. When I got back into reader-inserts I had to refind all the fics I liked, I previously deleted them from my read history, which was a task. Trying to find fics you vaguely remember but thoroughly enjoyed that you read years ago??? Such a feat, don’t recommend lol. So, don’t be like me and keep them saved somewhere even if you think you won’t read them again, you’ll never know what happens in the future (advice from present me to past me). Totally understandable! It’s such a new fandom and the movie itself is very hit or miss

Yeah, her full author name is 肉包不吃 (meatbun doesn't eat meat) but shortened to meatbun and her most popular work is 2ha (二哈和他的白猫师尊) which in itself has drama as it reached western audiences. That doesn’t surprise me, it does get a lot of hate (since it’s made its way out of the typically audience and gotten popular in other parts of the world).......all I’m going to say on the matter is don’t expect it to be tailored towards you (as in the general you, not you specifically) especially if it is written by a certain culture for that culture. It obviously is going to be different if you are not from that culture and honestly you’ll miss a lot of the nuances and such…..all I ask is that people not loudly hate on something especially if your looking at it through a different cultural lens (I get it it’s not for you but at the same time it wasn’t meant for you?? Idk, I’ve received my fair share of hate and struggled with accepting my ethnic identity (which these books helped me out with) especially since I grew up in a place where I was considered a minority…. 

No pressure at all!!!! I don’t want you to feel forced to get into or at least glance at on my behalf especially if it’s a genre you don’t vibe with! That’s honestly why I created two separate accounts for the fandoms I’m in (they are on total opposite ends of the spectrum and I know the likelihood of others running in both circles is not high). In a way this is for the best! Better to get through the dislikes first and spend more time and energy on the similar interests instead!!!

And it's like,… I haven't gotten anything particularly awful in terms of comments or really much hate in general, but… It still scares me seeing the sorts of things I do on here and sometimes even other people's fics I read. DX It would me too! Oh goodness, I literally saw someone looking through Ao3 fics on Youtube today and I just- <.< Is nothing sacred anymore?!? Yes!! How hard is it to be a decent person now-a-days?!? What happened to the times when people were more tolerant of the things they didn't like?? I know when I came into fandom, it wasn't as if no one was getting any hate at all, but… I feel like it's gotten worse. I feel like there's a bunch of normies coming into fandom and just… Not abiding by the 'don't like, don't read' rule, DX and they wanna share the entire fic and their disgust online and have people that side with them all dogpilling the creator!

It's really crazy how humans in general grow and develop, how tastes and interests change irl and in fiction as we age, whether it means becoming more open or closed minded. a;sDFa0- XD That's me rn with putting my toes in the M/M and F/F genre! Younger me could have never foreseen! (XD Those reader-inserts snatched you up, didn't they?) Same! :D Where will we go in the future, what new things will we check out and become interested in, how will those fandoms change us as people? I honestly feel like some things have changed because I've gotten into new fandoms, seen new people's works and their perspective on things.

Hhhh- 🤤 I just- The way 60 tries to come off as so ruthless and complete his mission, I find it so fascinating that in one of the endings where he kills 50, he just has a breakdown when he sees 50 still beat him and freed all the other androids despite being shut down in the process. Oh, I know! D: I love Connor-50, 60, and RK900 too, but I really do feel the lack of love for 60. The other two seem to have way more fics, with 50 taking the lead and 900 right behind him. (Guess I'll just have to try and come up with some ideas for DBH and change that, huh?) Oh, me too! :D Oh? 👀 XD It's only got 8/??KB right now, nowhere near being done, but maybe next month or so? It's gonna be smutty for sure, though. ;) Unless another fic suddenly says, 'Me first!', my update schedule should look like: Error 13 update (7/37KB at the moment), Vegeta one-shot (12/??KB, rated T), and then the mer Legato one. Beyond that, who knows at this point in time? XD Certainly not me. I've certainly had some new WIPs grab me by the throat recently (of course they're for Vash and Knives lmao, they can't let me go!), so they might make themselves known sooner than the other stuff I want to work on rn. I'm often a slave to whatever WIP inspiration I get seized by.

I know that pain and it's so hard. :') Remember that one fic I told you I spent maybe fifteen minutes looking for? There are others which I haven't been so fortunate to at least somewhat remember the name of. TwT That was the only reason I found that one in such a short amount of time. And I'm afraid some might even be deleted. There for a while in the FNAF fandom, I don't know if they were getting hate for their fics or what, but a lot of my bookmarks would go missing when I was in that phase. Makes me sad. My best advice if you're afraid they will vanish entirely, download a pdf of it from Ao3 and put them in a flash drive/CD or a folder or into a phone/tablet somewhere! There are several I have in my tablet that I often re-read alongside my own works to check/reference when my internet is out and just to keep in case something happens. :o Wait it's a movie? For some reason I was under the impression it was a series. I might check it out at some point if my internet will cooperate (DX Why I kind of have stopped watching anime. Only Youtube really loads good for me most days) or if I have the opportunity to buy it locally.

Or even people against men liking or writing/drawing gl! Like, I can kind of understand when it comes to real people, like obsessive shipping of real people but only when it comes to the point of like, not viewing them as real people anymore, you know? Like that really taking it too far kind of thing, especially if they're legit stalking them or it leads to the person sending hate towards whoever they feel is "getting in the way" of these two people they "ship" together, like that scares me. And while I don't really like rpf, as long as you're not openly harassing or making the people you ship uncomfortable by like, shoving the content in their face and stuff, or making comments to them they're clearly uncomfortable with, I don't think there's really anything wrong with that, even if it might not be my cup of tea (assuming the people these people are thirsting after or shipping are adults and not children, in which in my mind it becomes… Sus if you're not around their age range. Like, that is a child. A real child. Not a fictional one.)

Yess!!! 100%! If it is made by a creator from a different culture and ethnicity, you need to remove the lens you would use to judge the sort of things you do from your own culture and ethnicity from! And another thing that really gets me… Someone's skin color and outward physical appearance does not give you any indication of their background, where they were born at, and what kind of culture they were brought up in. Really, a lot of this clamor for "diversity" going on here lately in the west… Is actually trying to put people into boxes they don't really fit in. You're (not you, but like, in general) actually being less diverse, and I would argue, *more* racist trying to be "diverse" because you're judging by outward appearance unless the person gets a DNA test, and even then you're still assuming until the results come, and I've even seen people saying that others' DNA test was/must be fake/fabricated?? You have a lot of people telling people to "check their privilege", and that's just- Grrrr. If you think about it, we're all mixed, all from different backgrounds and ethnicities. Somewhere down the line, I feel like we all have some outlier DNA. I don't think there are really any "pure" people (as in pure blooded) in the world. And, honestly? I think labeling people by their skin color, by default, is racist. You're assuming all these diverse people around the world are the same or should fall under the same umbrella just because of the pigment of their skin or other physical traits? Are you kidding me? How is that not racist to you?

And it really gets me because this does tie into, I feel, a lot of how foreign media is looked at and treated because this is how things are now being viewed here in the west. There is this expectation to portray certain characters a certain way, especially concerning their skin color, race, cultural background, and sexuality/identity. I did not really see this kind of stuff until, I wanna say the past 5-10ish years ago? Where you're called a "racist" or all sorts of "-phobe/ics" if you portray these characters who are x race and x identity "the wrong way." It really grinds my gears, because I'm certain, no matter how a character is written, regardless of gender, background, culture, and identity, someone out there can relate to them, and feel seen. Not everyone's experiences are the same, we're all different and we're all gonna think and see the world differently, and tying back into what you were saying, not everything in the world is going to be catered to the general you specifically all the time.

There are messy topics and subjects all throughout life, and I feel like today's world in the west has become problem avoidant, where they'd rather pin the blame on someone/something else than take accountability and work through the tough times with people and try to be more understanding of each other, regardless of world views. It's such a hostile environment, and it's negatively affecting other countries and their people and the things they create as it enters our knowledge zone, as well as our own people and creations. I'm so glad they were able to help you! :'D This is exactly why content like this needs to exist despite the outcry against it here in the west! And I'm so sorry you received hate! :( I wish you the best! 🙏 💕 I really hate that certain attempts to try and connect with other cultures by learning about and partaking in their customs and holidays has become "cultural appropriation," especially since the people I tend to come across seem happy to share and have others from different cultural backgrounds take interest in their customs and beliefs?? As if this idea of "cultural appropriation" is what is keeping us apart and separating us from other cultures when we could all be connecting and understanding each other on a deeper level.

Hi, I haven’t messaged you or anything in so long !! I was like 16 the last time i even posted on tumblr, i’m literally 20 in two days !!

I haven’t checked up with you since The Ride but you used to be my favorite blog and my favorite fanfic writer. You fully shaped my late teens and ur old fics got me through everything from GCSES to Covid.

And then i stopped using Tumblr cos Catfish just vanished like but i’m so happy to see you’re still writing like and you’ve found new things to write about. I went to Uni n stuff and my whole life changed and i completely forgot about ur fics. They used to be a form of escapism, and helped my romanticise my life. They genuinely helped me feel lighter when life was just heavy like. and now i don’t need them anymore and all that seems so sad and distant, my life is so so great now and i got through the not so great bits with your writing.

I just thought it was worth letting you know that you shaped a girls teen years. I completely accredit you to all the fun I had romanticising my life because of ur fics, and you literally have no idea. like some random girl in Manchester accredits some writer girl in wherever to shaping her entire late teens into some indie cringe fest nightmare that she secretly loved (don’t tell)

Okay, first of all, thanks for sending me this bestie it really hit me in the chest because a) i cant believe ive had that level of impact on someone else's life and in such like a cute little way? And b) because everything youve just described is exactly what i was doing too!! Like using my little fanfictions to escape to, romanticising my dreary/lonely little life and using it to imagine a better future for myself...

Like, i started writing Oxygen when id broken up with my abusive ex, was livibg alone in a student flat, id lost ALL my pals to said ex, i was floundering at uni feeling stuck and alone and like, i used to get stoned and listen to the national and live in this little daydream which was that story and its probably one of the only reasons i survived that year!

And The Ride, i had the idea for that when i was trapped at my grandparents painting their house for them. That whole bit at the beginning where Maria is painting the B&B stemmed from a days daydreaming trying to romanticise my dreary little life.

Basically most of the fics i wrote were me creating the characters i wanted to be more like, like fliss and saffron, i wanted to be that kind of positive, confident, carefree girl and writing the characters helped me believe that I could be more like that.

And like idk, you really summed up what i was doing for me, and I'm glad u were able to romanticise your life too! I think its an underrated and important coping mechanism tbh, if you cant daydream up a better reality for yourself, how can u ever achieve a better reality for yourself?

I also think thats maybe why I don't write as often now too, generally my lifes much better than it was, I'm happier, i dont need to imagibe these friends for myself because i have a really solid group of friends, and I have B and im cared about and no ones out to hurt me anymore. So i dont need to escape to my fanfictions so much anymore idk.

Still sometimes its lovely to revel in nostalgia isnt it.

Jungkook in polarity, tends to shut down any attempt on oc telling him she hates him. Like in the first chapters and she was only able to truly tell him this last chapter. I wonder, and idk if it's going to explore on the next episode or not.

I think you’re right in leaning towards it having to do with a particular moment in his childhood involving his mother . The next chapter may reveal more about that and we may see some more glimpses of his resentment towards his mother ( however I think chapter 4 of his POV will reveal even more so I’m excited to post that later on ) But yes, I think you can assume that he feels those words can take him back into that dark time in his supposed childhood and he may make a connection to his mother ‘rejecting’ him .

However, it also is part of his overall character. I think I’ve mentioned this before but Polarity JK could be considered a grandiose narcissist to a certain level, he’s entitled, arrogant and is overly confident most of the time. He still comes off charming and likeable to others but he’s also quick to anger when confronted ( that also ties into his bpd ) but he seems to lack empathy for others except for when it comes to the MC ( and even for her at times, he’s not very empathetic when her distraught feelings aren’t towards him ) . He craves validation but only from her , he really feeds off her neediness because he himself is very needy for her attention and praise. So I think part of the reason he seems to be petrified of the MC outwardly saying she hates him and rejecting him is one, a massive blow to his ego & two, him actually being scared the only person he has essentially put on pedestal and idealized so much could potentially not return those feelings for him.

Towards the end of Chapter 4, you can see how much Jungkook craves for the MC to eventually love him back, in that small moment of vulnerability, you can see his confident demeanor break for a second. I think it’s safe to say his worst nightmare would be the MC actually truly hating him!

That is SUCH an interesting theory and I can totally see that being a thing. Honestly we haven’t really seen a lot of Chan (which sucks bc I adore him!) so I’m reeeeally hoping we get a glimpse or two of him in the next episode, especially since there’s a Korn scene.

I offered up a crack post a while back about how Chan is literally just Joe from Princess Diaries (mafia version), and I stand by it! Both dilf energy, both right-hand men and confidants, both acting in a muted authority role that’s closer to an uncle or stepdad than anything else.

Actually if I lean fully into my own crack theory, Korn being Queen Clarisse—widowed (we assume) monarch, born leader, wanting to step back from his/her kingdom and hand the reins over to the young heir—is like??? Pretty much right on???? And Chan being Joe…like he’s more than Korn’s head bodyguard or consigliere. They seem like genuine friends, and they’ve been together for a long time. Chan sits with him, plays chess with him, keeps him company. It’s like an old married couple just hanging out in comfortable silence. And that’s exactly what Clarisse and Joe have. (And even though she’s a queen, if Clarisse were a chess piece, she’d be the king, and Joe would be the queen kicking the shit out of the other side’s bishops and rooks and knights going after her.)

The difference is, while Clarisse encourages Mia in the sequel to find a partner (a queen to her king), Korn actually puts Porsche the chess piece on the board by making Kinn go after him. I doubt that’s how it went with Chan back when he first joined, especially since Korn built his empire from the ground up, but we know literally nothing about his backstory so idk. (I’m not even sure if Chan is in the original novel?) I’d guess he worked his way through the ranks and won Korn’s trust over time and then after decades of circling each other and Korn having kids while Chan stayed single, they’ve finally come to an understanding and are quietly in love uwu.

Anon I’m sorry this is total crack 😭 but Chan is definitely a SUPER intriguing character and I really hope they give him more screentime and bigger involvement in the plot. The actor is really good and he’s got such immaculate vibes, I need more of him stat!

SD: Sympathy for the Devil- 2018 Winter Olympics, Pyeongchang South Korea

This is probably my all time favourite VM program. As I discovered more of them there are others challenging for the top spot but this is the one I always want to watch and is the one I attach my first impressions of them to- there is always something with this program that I’m watching them like its the first time.

I’ve already raved about the costumes multiple times so lets just get straight into it.

1. The Opening (pose)

Once again we are talking about first impressions here. The first impression of VIRTUEMOIR. And what an introduction it is. I mean holy shit.. they just exude confidence. They really entered that arena and skated onto that ice like they owned it. Like instead of the olympics logo on the ice it should’ve just said ‘property of VM inc’. That soft breathe T takes as she passes the judges, them getting to make eye contact one last time before both turning to face the front. Scott telling her “lets go”. And not in a loud, excited, amped up way. Very calm but full of confidence and, yes now looking at it after knowing so much, a bit of foreboding, like, “alright T, last SD, lets show what we’ve got”. Also his clap and rolling his hands together, ughhhhh I melted… like thats just something you would not have seen him do ever before this season, maybe before this very performance, yet it doesn’t feel unnatural at all. It exudes confidence, he’s so ready to go. It just sets such a tone right away and tells you you really have no choice but to watch them. Taking their time to get to the still starting pose. The sass in their shoulders, the matching pointed toes, how their exact positions are different but complement each other PERFECTLY! Just everything about it I love it all!! Then the one shot on QUEEN T… I think this may have been where I stopped breathing. There is something about that shot of her every time I watch it where I feel like I don’t know her (i don’t- not personally, but given I blog about them everyday I feel like I have a familiarity with them now) something about it still feels like that first time where I thought ‘omg she is so stunning’- not just her physical beauty, but again, her confidence (which I’ll talk about eventually was such an important thing that she be able to have). Maybe it’s that she doesn’t often on or off ice wear make up that heavy, but I loved it and I just felt like I was looking at this real life wonder woman. She was so intimidating (in the best way possible) and just this huge energy which at the same time was so settled and contained. They haven’t even started dancing yet and I’m already shouting about how freaking empowering it was to see a woman in the most nerve racking moment of her life look that unstoppable.

Ok, sorry. This post is meant to be about breaking down the program.. lets do that now and keep the gushing to a minimum. 🤫

2. The Opening (movement)

I can’t stress enough how hard I immediately fell in love with them when I heard that first ‘OWW’. This is one of my fave songs ever and really with the costumes being the first impression and being so different to typical latin (esp ice dance) costumes, not that I thought about it but once the music started it made so much sense that THAT was the song.

On that first ‘OWW’ as T does her point and (idk what to call it so I’m just gonna say) ‘seduction moment’ and she kinda spins a bit on her blade. That had never happened before (in a performance at least) so I wonder if that was maybe one of her little micro bobbles that only she felt. It doesn’t at all look like she was off balance or it wasn’t meant to happen, in fact it looks AMAZING like this because it stretched out that moment and made it so indulgent, and especially when it’s slowed down it’s just freaking magic.

Kurt Browning said in his commentary that Scott looked like an animal who hadn’t eaten in a month when he started and the way he looked at T. That is such a hard quality to pull of well- not have it be over the top or cringy. I always come back to with this dance that they managed to balance being extremely into each other as well as into themselves- acknowledge their own attractiveness and sexuality and play off that together. [The ‘being into yourself’ bit is not to be pompous or arrogant- it about abandoning any fear of judgement and not letting any insecurities show]. That’s what I feel as though specifically Scott’s ‘animal’ vibes are. Wanting to devour her and know she’s gonna want to be devoured by him. All that already portrayed in maybe.. 2 seconds…. 2 seconds into their program and you’re already getting that sense of performance and story from them.

I love that their latin movement compared to a lot of other teams was so much more, relaxed, as well as really dancey and not out of the ‘latin for dummies’ book. It looks so fun, like they are dancing in a latin bar. The latin movement fits so naturally in their bodies (and if it didn’t fit naturally they make it look as though it did). T’s hips are fantastic. She’s not over the top with it which again makes it feel more natural. Blending it with this more casual ‘rock’ music vibes as well helped in it not looking like a typical impersonation of Latin dancing- it was entirely their own thing.

3. THE SAMBA ROLLS

THE MOMENT I WAS SNATCHED.. by that I mean that if I wasn’t already hooked by the costumes and their confidence and their beautiful faces and the MUSIC then this is where I was like oh damn! This was really my first experience watching ice dance with the understanding that it is different than pairs.. my closest understanding of it was ballroom tangos and waltzs. I’m not a trained latin dancer but I know enough about it to differentiate the styles and samba rolls are an iconic movement in samba dancing. When it’s done really well its like the man is stirring the woman. I’ve seen it done where the woman is bending almost equally to all front, back and sides, which also means the man has to be quite flexible for her the bend forward over him as he bends back. TS do this movement incredibly well. They are doing it faster then I’ve mostly seen it done and obviously their footwork is different because they are skating- they have a wider lunge position where as on the floor you would be taking more smaller steps. SO, to see a literal DANCE movement in a skating program done so well and so appropriately as to recognise this as a ‘samba’ dance, not just samba rhythm music (which I feel is what most other teams were doing) which up until now I had admittedly a naive understanding of skaters’ range of dance ability (which I still to this day maintain they are the ball around dancers without a doubt).

The movement after this is fantastic and all still in maybe the first 10/15 seconds of the program is setting the tone as this fun, dancey good time still with all the technical superiority. I almost feel like in that moment just after the samba rolls where he spins her under his arm and they have a little face to face moment, he asked her is she was all good with that little uncharacteristic slide/spin on her very first movement. I obviously have no way to know but in this interview she mentioned in the very beginning of both programs they had some tiny little glitches that only the two of them would’ve felt. Idk, its not a big deal either way but its nice to think about. It looks like they were saying something but it could’ve just been one of their scheduled key words.

4. Non-touch midline step sequence

(Bloody hell that’s a mouthful)

So this sequence mostly stayed the same throughout the season. There were actually some fun moments in the very first version at ACI, but my fave specific version was definitely SCI. It’s almost identical but there are some upper body movements that I love in this earlier version. There just seemed to be more musical detail. For example the little shoulder moment right after they round the corner. Also even though he ‘messed it up’ I like Scott’s ‘centre stage’ moment at SCI (with the ‘eyebrows’ ☺️). Other then that really there’s not much difference (I do not know how to differentiate the skating steps all I care about is the edge quality and the musicality. Their NTMLSS are in general phenomenal and beyond just their amazing skating technique which I just have to take everyone’s word for since I’m not qualified to determine that for fact (but it’s obvious) but one of the things I can identify as part of their excellence is the way they use their upper bodies. This is of course partly them having good choreography but the thing about good chore is it needs to have good dancers doing to make it appear good. I don’t like to call out specific teams on here to compare TS to, but with something like this it’s more a general thing with lots of teams. It’s what I call ‘YMCA’ skating.. where you get all the edges and turns on the music, but quite simple and stiff upper body movements. I will link the full 2018 SD event here so if you have a spare couple hours you can watch for yourself. But anyway, what I find with these types of movements is you start to see the skaters who aren’t actually “dancing” on ice.. The movement becomes broken down into lower body and upper body, with some separation in style and rhythm between the two. It doesn’t look fully coordinated, or the movement is very simple to allow for the skaters to be coordinated. I noticed this a lot both in this seasons (17/18 latin) and the season before (16/17 hip hop/blues) so you can also watch the worlds SD event to see the same thing in some teams. In BOTH TS movement you can see their shoulders move, their hips move, their body rolls. Just look where they both stop in the centre- how far Scott bends back- in a side view photo he’s bending almost 90 degrees back (that’s an exaggeration but it’s really fkn far!) It’s also in their characters- they don’t drop the spirit of the dance just because they are skating difficult steps individually. To summaries they are, you guessed it .. DANCING.. which considering the sport is called ice dance, that’s what I want to see, not skating sections and ‘dancing’ sections.

5. The musical transition

To be perfectly honest.. the very first time I was kinda bummed when the music started to fade out of SFTD.. I was just kinda like ‘oh what that’s all we got of that’. BUT that was literally only for the first time I watched it because watching it a second time knowing to was coming.. it’s is such a fantastic musical transition. I kinda hate how in ice dance they often have to have ‘medleys’. Simply because of the requirements specifically in the SD/RD that has to be at least two “distinct” musical styles. I think I maybe remember reading at one point that in the rules for, I think this season but it may have been the season before.. that the NTMLSS had to be skated on a different rhythm to the set patter, so in this case rhumba. So inevitably unless you find the perfect music that has both the rhythm being used for the compulsory rhumba pattern (coz most teams did not you what I would describe as ‘rhumba’ music) and another of the optional rhythms, at least 2 pieces of music would have to be used. If there aren’t good musical transitions and good choreography to fit those changes, I really tend to hate the medley format. This musical change from SFTD to HC was ✨INSPIRED✨. The way the ‘OWW’s continue but gradually stretch out from 4 counts apart to 8 counts- the first of the last ‘OWWs’ where HC comes in and they hit that layback position 🫠 the sustain that glide itnto the corner. That last one being on the leg flick in the compulsory pattern. It was a tonal shift that along with the layout of the choreography fit so perfectly in creating the whole vibe of the program: This fun and dancey, but also hot and intimate smoothness- rhumba not being on upbeat music, gradually transitioning out of the iconic SFTD lyrics and samba beat.. it was just beautiful..

I’ve already talked extensively about the rhumba pattern so I’m gonna skip that in this post

6. Choreographic moments between the rhumba and the circular step sequence in hold

Ok here we go, everyone’s favourite moment (although there didn’t appear to be a kiss this time ☹️). I reblogged this moment (from the TE) a long time ago when I first started posting on here that I had a very different take on this moment. Basically the gist of it was that I didn’t see it as purely this, hot, intimate, romantic, confirmation they are fucking moment. Yes it is incredibly hot and intimate and made my heart skip a beat, once again, that it’s their job to make you believe that but should be respected when they say that what most assume is not the case off ice (wonder if I’ll ever be able to stop saying that 🙄). But I personally found this to be more of a moment for them where they aren’t executing an element or any particularly difficult/complicated skating steps, to just take a moment to pause, get very close and just check in with each other. It doesn’t last particularly long but in a fast moving program, even a brief moment where they can just come back to their eyes and remind each other they are doing really well and just keep to breathing and stay focused. It can 100% be both that and this hot and indulgent moment at the same time. They can disguise it being a special moment for them in something that serves the character of the program. Also from a choreographic perspective it creates this light and shade in the program. The more complicated it is generally means there is more movement and more steps in it and with skating how it is that they are essentially always travelling and if not then standing on the spot, this acts as a nice highlight moment that also offers some calmness amidst all the intricate, technical skating.

All the lovely intertwining steps following this moment are fantastic as well (hard to see from this angle). That moment where they do stop and do their little latin swaying movement together was great and the best that moment ever looked because a few times earlier on it looked a little uncoordinated.. being much closer and making it more about their bodies then their arms waving I think is what makes this moment much smoother. After this is when I really start to love the partnering because it starts with Scott just manipulating her by holding her waist and it’s like T is rolling around him so effortlessly. Kind like he is playing with water and it just flows through his fingers and flows over each surface. T truly has the most beautiful movement quality. She hardly ever hits a bad position and the way she just fits so naturally in just about every style of movement is just magical. That is so hard. The fact that she started as a ballet dancer and took it very seriously as a young child had clearly stayed with her in the way she caries herself and used that strong core foundation to then add layers of different dance styles. This, then the fact that Scott without that strict foundation ballet training that T had can match her so beautifully while maintaining his own distinct quality of movement is just what makes them the most pleasant team to watch. Nothing feels fake or forced.

7. Some highlight moments in the circular step sequence in hold

So the key requirements for this type of step sequence (*that I know of), (the other being the NTMLSS) is this one has to be fully completed touching the whole time- including in twizzles. It must start in foxtrot hold and finish with a ‘spin/skid stop’ to indicate the end of the sequence. What I like about this step sequence is the flow in and out of traditional holds and more modern ‘open’ holds. It’s again the fluidity of their movement which especially for a rhumba is an ideal quality. In this program they do 3 really distinct Latin styles (cha cha at the end there is only as small sampling with both the twizzles and lift in that section). They dance all these styles distinctly and with the appropriate carriage, energy and expression unique to each one, but have a fluid character storyline running through the whole program which doesn’t make it feel choppy.

I love this first moment in killian hold where they stay on that one LFI turned out edge and in unison passing their free leg from to back with that beautiful epaulement and head line on that high note in the music. That followed by that lovely arch back T has. Again, so indulgent- I’m using that word a lot for this program even though there isn’t really many moments they get to indulge for too long in. Somehow though they are able to create this light and shade through fast moving movement to create moments to feel indulgence and pleasure.

Then of course another fave moment, the ‘which part of T’s arm shall I bite moment’.. aka the ‘Nivea lotion’ moment (- for those who don’t know T posted a pic of this very moment from the team event where S was very close to her bare arm and captioned it ‘when that @ Nivea lotion just smells so good’.. our one and only QUEEN being sassy, flirty, and savage all at the same time 👑) this once again very intentionally but not at all apologetically or designed to stir shit up, is another example of their maturity and new found comfort in their artistry together to express very sensual themes and carry them off so naturally. It’s in the middle of a ‘required element’ where they have to remain in contact and hit all their edges and turns, yet come up with very creative choreography to portray their theme and energy and carry that throughout the dance. It’s like what I was saying earlier about the split you get in weaker teams of the ‘dancing’ and the ‘skating’ moments. With TS it’s this seamless blend of both athletic art forms.

8. Twizzles

It’s really what happens right before these twizzles that I love so much. So once again we get a great musical transition from HC to Oy Como Va. this one more abrupt but the way it goes straight into the guitar solo and really says ‘here we go, home stretch’ like the final song of the encore at a great rock concert. The movement I really love on the build up in the music before the guitar solo starts, is they are in kinda a hand to hand hold, then Scott has his right hand on her back, he kinda delays it there and they look to each other for as long as possible before taking literally one step and then flying into the catch-foot twizzles. I love that kinda delayed contact with his hand on her back, idk it kinda makes me think of it like they’re playing tag or something, or like, ‘ready, set go! I’m gonna race ya!’ There’s something about that and the way I think of it that makes it seem really fun and without actually racing each other- like getting out of sync or off the music, is kinda a great energy to take into those very fast twizzles and the rest of the program as a whole. I also really love what they do with their hands/arms between each of the twizzles- the first one that outstretched arm and jazz hand going into the LBO twizzle, then bringing the arms down again with jazz hands before the last set.

9. I just really love this moment

Ok this is just straight up fun from here on out. I love that moment perfectly on the guitar flick where she pushes off his chest and throws her hands up into that twizzle, then by holding her round the waist he swings her round and that fabulous sweeping edge change.

10. Lift + Ending

Ok here’s where I’m gonna really expose my ‘first timer ice dance viewer ignorance’. At the time I did not know that ice dancers we’re not allowed to do over-head lifts.. VM did this lift-one of their signature lifts for that matter and I thought.. “huh.. that seems a bit simple..”

Now let me explain this. I did not think this lift was easy or simple, it was certainly spectacular- the speed at which they rotated, the one hand in the middle, the smoothness of it, oh yeh and they are on fucking ICE.. what I mean by my initial reaction is a) I was not aware about the no over head lifts thing- I just expected on of those one arm pairs press lifts or something. And b) this is a classic ballroom/Latin style lift I had seen professional Latin dancers do not even to this quality. It looked like a dance lift to me- I just wasn’t expecting that from skaters. It is of course such a great way to finish and in this same event seeing other lower ranked teams attempt this lift then seeing VM do it is really impressive and once again from a comparison pov puts them way ahead of everyone else.

The ending is just so happy. Almost immediately after the music stops they drop the hot, sexy Latin vibes and just become incredibly precious and squishy with their overwhelming joy and pride in each other that they had danced so well. That’s the other thing about them that as amazing as they are and what great actors/performers they are, they’re incredibly genuine and can’t hide their excitement (and for that matter disappointment in those instances) they always remain incredibly professional but to see their personalities shine, especially when this is the first impression of them-it just makes them instantly loveable.
