=== Chaos Dad's Message ===
Tumblr media Tumblr media
David Jenkins messaged us FRIENDS and gave us a new heading to steer the ship for the crew. Truly an amazing and sweet message, and helping give @renewasacrew a good place to start on new networks.
== How you can help ==
So based on Chaos Dad's tweet, what the folks over at @renewasacrew have recommended is we focus our efforts on Netflix, AmazonStudios, and Apple TV. We'll be polite menacing but also doing some more specific wooing this time so please see below for more information.
= Reach out to Netflix =

You can reach out to apple tv by going here.
= Amazon Prime: Thank you @mermaid-stede for this write up: =
1) if you have an Amazon account, go to My Stuff > Settings > Help & Feedback > Provide Feedback
2) If you don't, write here
3) might as well try their customer service 888 280-4331, using the same strategy from above (though you might need an Amazon account)
4) and here's an email! [email protected]

Things to remember:
Only Message 1 of the 3 networks at once. We are wooing them, they want to be enticed, not included in a crowd. If you are reaching out to one, make sure to reach out to all three (just separately)
Be Polite, this is a bit of a different strategy from max, we WANT these people to pick us up, we're not grumpy at them.
Yes you can use season 3 and beyond, use the same terminology David Jenkins did.

-------------------------------------------------------------
So Dad's message kind of blew everything else out of the water today, there were some sightings of various crew on the web but most of them were reactions to David's reel so I figured it probably wasn't worth adding today. Thank you as usual to the @renewasacrew team, and @TheCozyPirate for all their steering and insight and helping make these pivots possible each day!
-------------------------------------------------------------
Side note: I saw a lot of really great stuff today-- people focused more on action with the renewal and starting to discuss fun things more and more, less dealing with trolls. I hope that means you all are getting some rest and avoiding some of the crazy shit going on.
Seriously, you're doing amazing. David sees it, the cast sees it, the crew sees it, we all see it. You should all feel super proud of yourself for all the hard work you're doing, whether it's just enjoying the show, being active in the renewal efforts, or just being you.
Please continue to make art, and fics, and goofy memes, and silly videos, and everything. Your creativity is so inspiring and fun and it keeps us all sane! (Also please share them with me I love them.)
On that note, here's Rhys grabbing one of those Stiddies.

By India McTaggart and Tracey Kandohla
21 April 2024
The first statue of Queen Elizabeth II since her death has been unveiled to the approving barks of nearly 50 corgis.
The permanent memorial to Britain’s longest-reigning monarch – complete with her own immortalised dogs – has been hailed as a fitting tribute for the “mother of our nation.”
The eye-catching 7ft bronze statue went on display on what would have been the late monarch’s 98th birthday, with a group of her favourite dogs stealing the show.
It takes pride of place outside the library in the market town of Oakham, in Rutland, Britain’s smallest county.
It depicts a youthful Queen Elizabeth – who stood at just 5ft 4in – standing at 7ft in regal robes with three loyal corgi companions at her feet, one peeking out from the creases.
It serves as a permanent reminder of her 70-year reign and her enduring affection for the Pembroke Welsh breed.
Sculptor Hywel Pratley believes the memorial will become a hit not only with royal fans, but that it will attract social media users wanting a selfie beside the late monarch and her dogs.
Tumblr media
Speaking before the unveiling in front of a 400-person crowd and with a host of local dignitaries attending, he said:
“The plinth is designed to be sat on and I can see the statue becoming popular with the Instagram generation, and why not?
It will make a perfect backdrop for pictures and people will be able to reach up and pat a dog or if small enough even sit in its back.”
Mr Pratley, 51, who is half Welsh and lives in Chelmsford, Essex, told how he chose to add the corgis for a “bit of fun and to tap into the late Queen’s humanity and address her friendliness.”
He explained he made the statue larger than life because a “life-size Queen Elizabeth is too small. She deserves more.”
The £125,000 statue was commissioned by Dr Sarah Furness, the Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, following the Queen’s death in September 2022.
Addressing the crowds in the spring sunshine, she said:
“We are witnessing a piece of history today with the first statue of Queen Elizabeth to be commissioned since her death and who gave us 70 years of exemplary service.
Rutland may be a small county, but the response to this had been huge with contributions from local businesses and individuals of varying sizes.”
As she spoke, barks from 46 dogs from the Welsh Corgi League rang out, and she said, smiling: “You can hear them!”
She added: “The statue is for everyone.”
Tumblr media
Before his cancer battle had been known and made public, King Charles III had been invited to unveil the statue.
It is not known if Palace officials had agreed to the request.
Instead, the honour fell to Alicia Kearns, the Tory MP for Rutland and Melton, before being blessed by Debbie Sellins, the Bishop of Peterborough.
One resident, Hilda Townsend, said: “It is just wonderful. We are the tiniest county, but the first to honour the late majesty in such a big way. It is a very fitting tribute.”
Her husband, John, added: “It is absolutely amazing and, as Rutlanders, makes us extremely proud.”
The unveiling of two of the three bronze corgis was given to two young children who had won a local school art competition.
In an emotional speech, Ms Kearns, 31, said:
“It is an incredible statue of our beloved Queen, who showed unwavering commitment.
We hope we can reflect on her legacy of compassion, strength and leadership. The statue was no mean feat and is for all of Rutland and all of our country, and to come together in joy. Rutland leads and others will follow.”
Tumblr media
The MP revealed that the King would be visiting the statue.
Crowds of local residents mingled with visitors from further afield, some waving Union flags, with children sporting gold paper crowns on their heads.
She told spectators: “I am proud to play my very small part in helping to celebrate her reign,” pointing to the statue and saying: “She belongs to all of you.”
Following the unveiling, a lone bagpiper played a lament to the late Queen and the National Anthem was played, with crowds joining in.
Dozens of corgis, some wearing red, white and blue, then posed beside the new monument with their owners and officials before parading along the packed streets to Oakham Castle for a meet-and-greet session with the public.
Among the corgi owners was Katrina Emptage from Lincoln, with her two-year-old pet, Mable.
She said: “The statue is absolutely amazing and I’m delighted to be here to see it and be part of the corgi parade. It is very special.”
The late Queen held a life-long, deep affection for the breed after she fell in love with the dogs as a child.
She owned more than 30 over the years, many of which were direct descendants of the first, Susan, which was given to her as an 18th birthday present by her parents in 1944.
Speaking of his inspiration, Mr Pratley said:
“I very quickly thought that I would like to have a corgi nestling in her robes by her feet because what a great symbol it is, artistically, of her being mother of a nation.”

curious about your favorite underrated artists/fic writers/creatives on here?? and maybe your specific favourite underrated fanwork??
Ooh. I love this question so much, anon ❤️
Underrated gif maker, and I say this with no bias, is definitely Ida @bizarrelittlemew because she just puts in so much effort in all her gifs. Ida looks through tutorials and then also does so much on their own, but mainly: if you look at all the recent gifs, they have such a unique Ida ™️ vibe to them. From rotoscoping (still don't know what that is) to playing with blending, Ida deserves to be right up there with one of the most creative gifmakers this fandom has produced recently.
Unfortunately I just very very rarely hang out reading ofmd fics T-T (I'm mostly in the hobbit and sandman fandom side of ao3) and there are a few writers I love and I tend to stick to them (xoxoemynn, forpiratereasons being the main ones) Most of what I read and like in the fandom is when a mutual ends up writing something that isn't modern au.
Having said that, underrated writer to me 100% is @palavapeite because their writing just never fails to transport me to whatever setting they're talking about. Listen, I just don't read modern AUs, they don't do it for me (def a me issue, I'm sure there are brilliant modern au writers in this fandom but it's something I filter out) but I would absolutely recommend this fic as something that brought me so so much joy, is fast becoming my more reread fic, because it did a perfect job with getting Stede's voice right. I can hear every single thing he says in my mind, it's SO good. Also their fic with priest!stede lives rent free in my head and I would soon find the time to read their non blackbonnet fics.
Another one is adamarks who, again, has such a good grasp on Ed and Stede's character that it doesn't matter which AU Jay has picked, it just always always works somehow. My favourite is this fic tho which is just so them that I might as well weep.
For artists, my recent faves (and I think they're underrated) are Lilo @harrylovesspaezle who's so so talented and I still can't get over that sketchbook tour - the growth and love for this show ough, @ofmderapolag whose pieces are just so so dreamy, and also @spookynadja whose style just floors me every single time.
I'd also like to shout out one underrated category, people who write such amazing text posts like @ourfag who obviously has the s3 scripts and is only sharing them with us in small increments due to the nda and @tulipseason for the currently unpublished book of "1 million ways I will articulate how much I love hit television show our flag means death"
and then there's my favourite most beloved cheerleaders who are always lifting up new writers and artists too like @marbledwings and @insteading ❤️ I especially love that everyone has a beautiful story with these two, you could ask any small or big writer in the fandom if they've been made to cry by wings or insteading and yeah, they're just lovely.

Little Thing I Wrote for Adopt Our Crew:
Apologies if this isn't the proper avenue, but I'm writing in regard to the hit romcom series, Our Flag Means Death. Despite having the numbers, and despite being toted as a flagship, a featured property, and many other accolades, our beloved show is looking for a new home. Seeing as Apple TV values incredible programming, and loves to give brilliant stories their deserved light, I believe our beloved romcom would be a wonderful fit for the platform. It is diverse, inclusive, and above all, kind. It is like coming home, or falling in love. And if you were to allow those feelings to flourish on your platform, your service would evoke that same sense of warmth and kindness, too! So, I humbly ask you to consider continuing our wonderful story, and to let queer joy live on! Thank you.
Feel free to use/modify however y'all would like; just change up the platform name whenever you do <3. Also, be aware that Apple/Apple TV's comment section has a character limit! This little message is riiiiight on the cusp of it, so don't add too too much! <333
Apple TV's Feedback Form
Amazon Prime's Feedback Form

I just submitted my feedback to Apple TV and Amazon Prime, and am happy for people to use what I wrote as framework for their own if it's helpful. I tried to hit a number of talking points, which might be useful if coming up with your own:
third season 'and beyond' (as David specifically said)
representation and diversity
the show's success by a number of metrics
large passionate fanbase (and examples of this)
personalising it for the streamer in question (why OFMD would fit well on that platform specifically)
international appeal (specifically highlighting that I'm from the UK)
Here's what I submitted:
Apple TV Support Form I'd like Apple TV to consider picking up Our Flag Means Death, which is currently looking for a new home for its third season and beyond. It's not only fabulously diverse, with important queer representation that any network would be proud of, but it's also critically acclaimed - twice GLAAD nominated -, was consistently the top show on HBO Max, and has a large passionate fanbase willing to follow wherever it goes (nearing 75,000 on a petition to renew the show; £10,000 raised in forty minutes to fund a billboard in Times Square). Apple's shows are given space to breathe and truly inhabit their unique identities, such as the wonderful Ted Lasso, and I think this heartfelt queer pirate romcom would fit in perfectly. As a UK customer, I would subscribe to Apple TV if you picked up this show.
(note: there is a character limit here, which my message only just managed to fit in) Amazon Prime Feedback Form: I'd like Amazon to consider picking up hit show Our Flag Means Death, which is currently looking for a new home for its third season and beyond. The show is not only fabulously diverse, with important queer representation that any network would be proud of, but it is also critically acclaimed - two times GLAAD nominated -, was consistently the top show on HBO Max's streaming service, and has a large passionate fanbase willing to follow wherever it goes (nearing 75,000 on a petition to renew the show; £10,000 raised in forty minutes to fund a billboard in Times Square). Amazon Prime has recently displayed a real commitment to queer representation, with beloved titles such as Good Omens and Red, White and Royal Blue not only having massive success but being given the space and support by Prime to develop their own unique creative voice, and I think this heartfelt queer pirate romcom would fit in perfectly amongst Prime's other titles. The show is also highly merchandisable, and many fans would jump at the chance to purchase any Our Flag Means Death related merchandise (as I have previously done with Good Omens). The show also has international appeal: as a customer in the UK, I would also absolutely invest in a higher tier of subscription to support Prime should you pick up Our Flag Means Death, and know many people across the US, Australia and Europe who would do the same. Thank you for your time, and I hope you will consider picking up this incredible show for its third season and beyond.
I hope that this is helpful! Let's all go get our damned men back!

I can't reblog this post so maybe it's bad form to share the link but here is a handy guide for contacting the streaming services tagged in DJenks' recent post and a script to use in encouraging them to pick us up!!
This is what I just wrote to Amazon:
Please consider picking up the fantastic hit (but canceled) Max show Our Flag Means Death for its third and final season! The show was a groundbreaking beloved success for the streamer but they declined to renew it anyway. As a result their rabid fan base has so far amassed 75,000 signatures on a petition, bought a billboard in Times Square, hired planes to tow banners and trucks to display messages of support and calls for the reversal of this decision. We are passionate, we will follow the show to any other service that will have us, and we have disposable income to spend!

Fax to Max
Just sent this Fax to Max. Feel free to copy it or use it as a basis for anything you write or say to them on the phone. I also included b/w images of one of the numbers we do know about and some of WBD's guiding principles.
Btw faxed for the first time yesterday. Very excited!
Tumblr media
Dear Mr. Zaslav,
I am writing to you concerning some recent news about the WBD-owned streaming service Max.
I was saddened to hear of the cancellation of Our Flag Means Death last week. However, my sadness has since turned into confusion and outrage.
Our Flag Means Death has consistently outperformed many other Max properties that have been renewed for another season, such as The Gilded Age and And Just Like That. Our Flag Means Death has a huge and passionate fanbase, online engagement with related key words are massive, not to mention the show is a critical success. I would like to point out the 94% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes. Our Flag Means Death has also appeared on many year-end "Best of 2023" lists.
All this is despite the fact that Season 2 has not even aired in most parts of the world. Season 1 brought in another huge wave of viewers when it was released on the BBC and made available for purchase on YouTube.
Moreover, Max has promoted it as one of their "Biggest Hits" when one logs into one's account. Especially among young and queer audiences, the show enjoys immense popularity.
Our Flag Means Death is now the latest in a long line of queer-centered shows that have been cancelled prematurely. And quite frankly, queer audiences are getting sick of it. We are a big and active demographic and many of us have plenty of disposable income. Indeed, I spent some of mine to buy Our Flag Means Death on YouTube, even though I had already seen it on the BBC - which I also pay for.
To add insult to injury, yesterday Max CEO Casey Bloys made the following statement: "I need Gay Twitter to come out and support The Gilded Age." This truly felt like a slap in the face, considering "Gay Twitter" has been tweeting about our wishes for another season of Our Flag Means Death for over a week at this point.
Your company appears to have gravely misjudged what gay viewers want from their media. A show like The Gilded Age, which features only one major character who is queer, does not cut it. We are after rounded, diverse queer characters, like those in Our Flag Means Death, not one single rich, white, cis gay man in a sea of heterosexual characters.
On Our Flag Means Death, Bloys later added, "the numbers weren't there for a renewal." I am very curious as to which numbers he is referring to. Max do not release their
streaming stats. But the mass-exodus of Our Flag Means Death from Max is anything to go by, I highly doubt his statement is accurate!
At this point I would also like to quote one of Warner Bros. Discovery's own guiding principles: "Intentionally seek out diversity, remove barriers, and create space for all to share ideas and be heard. Actively listen and lead with empathy, integrity, and transparency."
Suffice it to say Our Flag Means Death's fans have made themselves heard - numerous news outlets and Max's social media managers can attest to that. What we are missing at this stage are your "empathy" (calling on gay viewers after cancelling a show beloved by gay people is frankly offensive), "integrity" (sticking to your principles on seeking out and empowering diversity), and "transparency" (Bloys claims the numbers aren't there we have no way of verifying his statement).
To sum up, I implore you to follow one of your other guiding principles: "acknowledge mistakes and learn from them." Cancelling Our Flag Means Death was a grave mistake that you have the power to undo.
Please do so.
I look forward to hearing the announcement of Our Flag Means Death Season 3 soon. Thank you for your consideration.
Yours sincerely,

10 characters
tagged by @talays-portkey ❤ I chose 10 characters from 10 different things that I consumed this year and liked.  I’m gonna say a few things about each and try to keep it short.
tagging @intyalote, @the-cloud-whisperer, @not-saying-revolution-but, @cortue, @isabellaofparma, @sassyassassy. Have fun, there’s no rules!
continues under the cut:
Sean /Not Me: The Series (2021)
Tumblr media
Not Me, as a whole, breaks me in the best ways possible. And Sean - he’s just everything to me. In my opinion, one of the most beautiful character arcs you can give me is having a character find a few more reasons to live. Make them start cherishing their life as a thing that should be protected and you have me on the floor sobbing. And Sean is this to me - comfort and pain wrapped in one person.
Jim Jimenez /Our Flag Means Death (2022)
Tumblr media
Do you know how hard it is to choose only one character from this damn show? I love them all so much, with my entire heart. But Jim is my special kid okay. It truly hits diffently, seeing them having their own arc in this silly little show, being just as silly with their crewmates, but also being badass and cool off the side and also having such a precious friends to lovers romance alongside everything. My beloved.
Ayukawa Ryuuji “Yuka”/ Blue Period (2021)
Tumblr media
This anime wrecked me, everything about Yuka wrecked me. Their story made me cry for two hours straight and unlocked something in my brain. I don’t know how to explain.
Shen Yi /Under The Skin (2022)
Tumblr media
With everything happening this year, I almost forgot I watched this show, but everytime I remember it, I’m so incredibly fond. It’s rare to watch a crime show that feels comforting, but this one does it! And I attribute a lot of it to this lovely protagonist, because he is so warm, sensitive and charismatic. I loved watching Shen Yi and going through all these cases from his point of view. He just feels like such a comforting presence and honestly, more protagonists should have this characteristic. Let them be gentle!!
Guillermo de la Cruz/ What We Do in the Shadows (2019-?)
Tumblr media
As someone on this hellsite put it - he’s the most character ever. Last week I finally caught up with the new season and I’m all here for Guillermo’s emancipation arc! Fuck it up son!!!! I’m cheering you on, keep doing your hot girl shit!
Vegas Theerapanyakul & Pete / Kinnporsche: La Forte (2022)
Tumblr media
Yes I’m cheating again but what are you gonna do about it. I couldn’t choose between these two because I find them both equally as engaging and interesting. If you’ve been following me - you know. You know the insanity I feel for these two. Who would’ve thought comfort is stored in the toxic BDSM couple. Emotional support fucked up men. Truly on the top of the list for this year.
Striga /Castlevania (2017-2021)
Tumblr media
Listen it doesn’t need much - give me a queer muscly lady with a huge sword and the coolest action sequence of the series and you have me sold. My actual favourite is Alucard, but I feel like we, as a society, should appreciate love and go crazy over Striga a bit more. Like, she’s right there!!
Lucifer Morningstar /The Sandman (2022)
Tumblr media
I just think they’re neat. Once again a show full of wonderful, beautiful characters, but Lucifer simply lives in my mind rentfree. @ netflix I beg, please renew this show so we can get the sequel with Lucifer going apeshit. I’m on my knees.
Wen Ning / The Untamed (2019)
Tumblr media
Sooooooooo I’ve been rewatching this curse of a show for the past week while lying sick in bed with covid and. AND. After three years the pain truly does not get better. Once again, I did not know who to choose for this - every single character in this god forsaken show deserves their own spot. But I somehow ended up on my darling, my boy, my favourite Ghost General. His story arc fucks me up so badly every time and yet it is one of the most beautifully tragic things. He’s a red thread, pulled through the entire story, and it makes my heart bleed. (and yes @the-cloud-whisperer, I’m gonna come back to you soon and finally scream with you properly)
👑 Louis de Pointe du Lac / Interview With the Vampire (2022-?)
Tumblr media
2022 has not ended yet but I know this guy takes the crown. I’ve been a fan of the Vampire Chronicles since I was 15 and finally. FINALLY. I get what I fucking deserve. And FINALLY here is a Louis that I adore - one that is charismatic, one that feels raw and real, and one I can finally love and be invested in. This show truly made me fall in love with his character when before that, he always paled in my affection to Lestat. He always kinda bored me in the books and the movie adaptation. As my friend put it: we all want to be Lestat but actually we are all Louis. But here is he at last, my highest quality blorbo: Louis de Pointe du Lac, resident disaster man full of existential despair, wrath and love. This show is all I’ve been thinking about and I will not apologise.

A Better Future: Ch 1. Kingdoms Unite
The Ark of the Blazing Fire sailed forward across the ocean waves, sailing through uncharted territory. Captain Bellum of the Kikai Empire had a glorious task ahead of him. Chart out the ocean floors and discover territory for the Hasai Colonization. The Empire was growing large. Too large for the Emperor's liking. They needed to expand or their population would tear itself apart. Finally, his scout found something.
"Captain! Island dead ahead!"
"Excellent. Everyone to their stations. We have potential territory for the Empire."
The boat sailed in close, hitting the sandy beaches. Skorge troopers with spears hit the beach, flanked with Waku magicians. Once they secured the landing zone, Bellum kept a small crew on the boat as he and other Romton left the boat. "Sergeant. If there are other people here, do not engage unless I give the order."
The Waku nodded, despite some grunts of disapproval from the Skorge troopers. "Yes sir."
The Captain appreciated the lack of tongue from the Waku. "Excellent. Let's see what we have here."
For the next half an hour, the team of Hasai explored the small island. The Captain deduced there was plenty of lush vegetation. In the trees, Bellum took an orange, examining it closely. Smelled good. Felt good. Taking a bite, it tasted good. He checked off in his mind a good food source. One of the scouts found a river, connecting to the ocean. "Sir! Fresh water!"
"Very good." This settled it for Bellum. Grabbing a banner, he stabbed it into the ground. The Hasai flag flew high into the air. "Then this will be a good island to claim for the Empire."
Lorleidians did not condone violence. All of the tribes of Lorleidi tried to avoid fighting if peaceful resolutions were possible. Yet, there were a select few who believed in attacking first and asking questions later. These were the border guardians of Lorleidi, keeping a close watch over their beloved islands. For a while, the guards simply observed the newcomers. The queen had given strict orders not to intervene unless necessary. However, these were armed individuals with dangerous weapons and highly unstable, darkly influenced, fire magic. There was uneasiness in the Lorleidians' minds as the guards watched from their posts. Some were hidden in the ground. Others floated above in the air. A few were in the water, slowly dismantling the boats, to keep the intruders from fleeing.
Once the banner was in sight, the Lorleidians realized these newcomers were looking to conquer. This would not do. The queen would be interested to know of these strange people who dared to try to take their homeland. With the magical energy flowing in place, the trap was set. The best tactic to battle was to avoid the overall battle. Within moments, the Skurge were trapped by fauna which simply came alive, taking the weapons from grasp and tangling the warriors in the vines, constricted tight. The Waku were trapped up to their necks in the sand, the earth hardening to keep the warriors in place, unable to use the fire. The Romtan on the boat were suddenly trapped in spheres of water, only allowing air into their lungs by exposing their head.
Lorleidian soldiers had Bellum secured by his ankles, with Kovinas and Munjas ready to deliver a fatal strike if he so much as flinched.
"You are on Lorleidian land, outsider," General Waccamaw's fingertips were sparkling with lightning. "You dare trespass on sacred land."
As a glow came from startled Waku, and Bellum calculated this first contact quickly. The Skurge and Romton would die quickly. The Waku could fight back, but most likely be overwhelmed fast. No. Fighting in these conditions would be fatal for his team. Negotiations were needed to boost the odds of survival. "Put down your weapons, suspend your magic and spare my crew. I am Captain Bellum of the Kikai Empire. I mean you no harm. I was under the impression this was untamed land. There is no need for bloodshed at this time. Unless I am incorrect with my analysis, you are not savages. You see no reason to kill us needlessly. I see no reason for a counter attack."
"You are the ones who have brought weapons to our land and dark magic at your side," General Waccamaw was not so easily swayed. Outsiders have always brought trouble to Lorleidi. It was difficult to allow anyone who was not a Lorleidian here on the island. There had been too many incidents where outsiders tried to hurt the innocents or take what was precious to them. So, the Lorleidians defended what was theirs with much ferocity. "You must understand why we are skeptical of you and yours on our land."
“Dark magic? Interesting theory. Of course, any advanced culture would defend itself journeying into the unknown. And, this is your home. If I promise you me and my crew will not retaliate, will you treat us with hospitality?”
"Why should I expect you to keep your promise?" General Waccamaw was still not convinced. "Many outsiders have been here before, promising friendship and partnership, and have fled with our resources, our children, and betrayed our trust."
“You have us outnumbered. You hold the strategic high ground over my crew. To attack you after would only ensure our deaths. Does this prove enough trust on the matter? And if not trust, logic?”
"This only proves I have the advantage, it does not mean I will trust you so easily." General Waccamaw glanced at the warriors the Captain Bellum brought who were trapped by his guards. "Our queen will decide your fate." He then ordered the soldiers. "Bring him with us. Keep his warriors subdued until the queen gives her orders."
“Must you put sand up to their necks and keep them in such confined spaces? It’s rather barbaric to treat your prisoners in such a manner.”
"The outsiders say we are barbarians, so I suppose, if they believe it, we'll act like it." General Waccamaw motioned for the Waku to at least be allowed a little more breathing room. "Come. Our wise queen awaits."
Bellum breathed with relief with his men once they were given more leniency. “Thank you.”
Traveling with the Lorliedians, the captain felt like kicking himself in the foot. Behind the island he settled on was a massive landmass that dwarfed it in comparison. If he scouted further instead of letting his excitement get the better of him, perhaps he could have avoided this situation
General Waccamaw led the captain to the capital, having sent a messenger ahead with news of the outsider. The queen agreed to cast judgement. Within time, even the current reagent had grown rather suspicious of any foreigners. There had been so many injustices against their people in the past. Not only were there guards, but dragons around the palace as well. Many were massive beasts, protective of their homeland and nests, but also ready to attack those who were seen as a threat. As Bellum was led into the palace, the Kovinas made sure to keep his hands pinned together with two plates of metal, serving as a handcuff of sorts. There were also Munjas at his side, ready to use the metal to send a shocking current throughout the captain if he dared to try anything.
"Queen Yolandyi," General Waccamaw gave a polite bow to his leader. "We have brought the outsider."
The current queen was young, almost paler than starlight with her skin and contrasting raven hair. Those unusual lavender eyes could see straight into the soul of anyone. It was a talent of the royals, so the stories said, each and every leader of Lorleidi had a sense of who was righteous and who was malicious. There, she sat on her throne, as calm and poised as every ruler should be.
"It has been a long while since we had any outsiders from the mainland, those this one," Yolandyi's voice was like pure silk, her long eyelashes nearly touching her cheeks as she blinked, looking from her general to the intruder. "Is different than those from countries on the continent."
Bellum, still shackled, would not show weakness. His posture was straight, and his purple, amethyst eyes locked onto the Queen. His voice, despite being a captive, was kept cool and methodical. “You will need to be more specific on which continent. I’ve taken my crew from my initial departure over a month on the sea.”
"Where are you from, outsider?" Yolandyi inquired of the man, "And what do you want with our homeland? My general here tells us you were looking to conquer." She stood from her throne, the dress flowing behind her as she descended the steps. "Do we have reason to be alarmed by your presence here?"
“I am Captain Bellum of the Kikai Empire. We are a collection of tribes from a race known as the Hasai. I travel out because our Empire has grown to a level that will not be able to sustain our people without expansion. I am looking for unclaimed land that my people can settle on. I made the miscalculation out of excitement that the island we landed on was not claimed by another nation.”
Yolandyi listened to his words, her facial expression remaining stoic. Now in front of Bellum, she reached up and touched his cheek, feeling his energies within, searching for deceit or malicious intent. She found none. Bellum, however, was alerted to the swirling storm of power which the queen held. The connection went both ways. With a soft hum, the queen motioned for the guards to remove the manacles, the metal falling to the ground.
"He speaks the truth." Yolandyi removed her hand from Bellum's face, turning to return to her throne. "You and your warriors may go."
Bellum felt his wrists, giving a crack of his neck. “I never was given the privilege of your name. Or learned of the name of your nation. Or what your culture might be like.”
One of the Romton groaned at the last bit. They knew their captain loved cultural arts, and he could be kept up for hours studying it.
"I am Queen Yolandyi of the Lorleidians," She glanced over her shoulder at Bellum, halting her movements for the moment. "We have seven tribes for the Seven Siblings of Nature. Our talents were gifted to us by our deities," Yolandyi held up her hand, a bright ball of light floating above her palm. "We are children of magic. We are magic. Without it, we are nothing. Our home," She gestured to the island seen between the pillars of the palace, "Is the magnificent Lorleidi; the islands of magic."
Gracefully, Yolandyi extended her magical ability to the rest of the room, chasing away the shadows before recalling the light back to her in the shape of the globe. "The Kikai Empire has already been rumored to be quite a military force. However, if you are looking to expand," The queen used her magic to display a section of islands south of Kikai, a shorter distance, but accessible only when the storms chased away the clouds. "Here. A species of fauna with intelligence live there and have knowledge of many medicines and edible plants. I would suggest making friends there, while the other islands around this one are unoccupied."
“Fauna? Interesting. How much intelligence though? Might lack… flare though.” Bellum glanced over the Queen. “Do you rule alone? Do you not have allies yourself?”
"Are you asking if I have a king to stand at my side?" Yolandyi returned his question with one of her own. "And we have acquaintances. Lorleidi has no part in the mainland's war faring activities."
“I was.” Bellum directed his attention to the other point. “Acquaintances are for individuals who lack friends, not nations. Who do you rely on for trade? For shared protection? You can play the part of the shield, but if you do not take up a sword yourself, you must have an ally to do so for you. Least you risk destruction. Metaphor, but nonetheless true.”
"I do not have a king." Yolandyi took her seat once more, the dragons at her side keening lowly as she offered each a pet on the snouts. "We trade with Danjur, sometimes Hyrule, but we mostly have whatever we need here. Lorleidi is self-sustaining. And dear outsider," She asked him, a twinge of warning in her voice, "Whatever so gave you the impression we do not have a sword for defending ourselves? Why do you think so many outsiders never breathe again after stepping foot on our land? We have our ways."
“Do you kill them all? If they are thieves or pirates, expected. If they are travellers, that should not be your judgement to make.”
One of the men noticed one of the dragons bare its teeth at them. Cautiously, he whispered to his captain. “Sir. I think we should just go…”
Bellum waved him off, unconcerned. “Are those ways cruel? Barbarism? True, I know Hasai who would do the same. I, however, condemn it. It is an ugly thing. You can’t kill off someone simply because they traveled onto your property. Or ensnare them together. I’m clearly not your general, but I would not let paranoia allow myself to harm or restrain someone of a new nation upon first contact. What your general did, I would simply call rude. Perhaps unethical.”
The men really, really wanted to leave, but they knew their Captain was impossible to stop a point once he got rolling.
“Soldiers need discipline. You, General, lacked it. Part of the risk is waiting for the other side to make the first move. We made no such motion of aggression when you moved on my crew with forceful, some painful, and I’m certain, mentally worrying restraint. Simply put, it was not proper. Maybe you lack friends because of your lack of manners. You need better protocol. You clearly have power, but you used it incorrectly.”
"Innocents are welcome, but those who would see us under their heel, are not." Yolandyi calmed her dragons with a soft murmur in Lorleidian, giving a gentle kiss to the fire dragon's nose. "Until you've had war on your doorsteps, until you've seen your people suffer at the hands of others, and until you yourself have been a victim, captain, then you are in no place to judge what tactics were used to keep ourselves safe. My general does only what he is instructed to do. Lorleidians do not condone violence," She then paused, turning to the other dragon, motioning for the growling to cease. "But that does not mean we will not use it. This is how we have kept our people safe for thousands of years, and will keep them safe for a thousand more to come."
She then stated, "If you are here to simply give me a lecture, or tell my general how to run his forces, then you will find I have no patience for a man who thinks he knows better than me because he is just that; a man." Those electric lavender eyes peered at Bellum with no trace of emotion. "I've no need of your righteous prattle, Captain Bellum, and no need of a man telling me how to run Lorleidi when he himself does not understand the struggles of my people. Now," She gestured to the guards, "My guardians will see you out if you are done with your attempt at entertaining me?"
“Very well. I will report my findings of this nation back to my Emperor. You should expect further delegations.”
Bellum glanced around the palace room. “I’d like to come back. Examine your art under further study. Maybe you can meet our dragons.”
"If your emperor wishes to pursue a trade agreement, I'd prefer to discuss agreements prior to the arrival of your ruler." Yolandyi thought this captain was such a puzzlement, but opted to keep her opinion to herself... for now. "Very well. Send word ahead of time and you and your warriors will not be up to your necks in sand."
"We will send diplomats. Not warriors. Your skin? Why is it-" One of the men gave his captain a shake of the head. "Ah. Forgive me. Some examinations can be considered rude. Till we meet again."
As the Hasai left, a small hatchling made herself known. A little lightning dragon named Dova'll. "Who was that? Why were they rainbow coloured?"
After the captain was escorted from the palace, Yolandyi noticed the hatchling. It was common for the mother dragons to keep their babies close, so having hatchlings around the palace was nothing new. At the baby dragon's question, the queen actually smiled slightly. Little ones were always so curious.
"The Hasai, Dova'll." Yolandyi answered, "And it seems they are interested in making friends."
“Why was he blue? And the other one red? Are they dragon kin?”
"Dragon kin are the Winged, little Dova'll, part of legends." Yolandyi gently placed the hatchling on her lap. "I suppose a trip to the library is in order, yes?"
“But I don’t like reading.” The little dragon tried to bare her fangs before running off.
~
There was no communication between the Hasai and the Lorleidi for about a year. One day, on summer's eve, a dragon swam into shore. Behind it was one ship, the Halo of the Divine. Bellum led the company, with a company of ambassadors.
The Hasai Dragon had 6 whiskers with a large main, and it couldn’t get enough of the water. “So refreshing.”
“Erekk. Don’t get the locals upset.”
The port was massive, welcoming visitors from around the continents, but security was incredibly high. After the last visit from the Hasai, Yolandyi made changes. There were now scouts in the water, on the smaller islands, and no one was allowed to visit the palace unless it was diplomatic concerns. As the ship and dragon neared the port, the Hasai were greeted by water dragons on either side and Vodas who watched over the port.
"Captain of the ship, please state your intentions and purpose of visiting the island of Lorleidi."
“This is Admiral Bellum of the Kikai Empire. I am here as an ambassador to speak with Queen Yolandyi. Permission to dock?”
The Hasai Dragon immediately went up to the Lorliedi Dragons, swimming around them like an excited dolphin.
"Permission granted to dock, however, we have received no orders to escort a party of Hasai to the palace." The guardian then said, "We will relay a message to the queen to see if you will be allowed entry."
As Errek swam excitedly around the Lorleidian water dragons, the pair remained calm and collected, remembering their job to do. However, the two were polite to the newcomer.
"Newcomer, we are pleased to welcome you to our island."
"Remember, no eating of humans and no destruction of property."
"Doing so will result in imprisonment or demise."
"Please have a good day touring the island."
“Eat humans? I’m a Luck Dragon. All Dragons of the Grand Isles are. I’m a vegetarian. You don’t have whiskers. And you’re so scaly. And no fur! But you’re so big! This is amazing. I have never seen other dragons outside my kind!”
Bellum activated a switch on his helper as the boat docked in. A humanoid Android with a single glowing eye stood up, glancing around. “T0-D. You are to stay by my side at all times. Observe your surroundings at your pleasure.”
“Pleasure: I don’t know if I can feel pleasure. Or feel.”
"If you would like to interact with the other breeds of Lorleidian dragons, most of our kind spend their leisure time on the other side of this isle."
"Please do not disturb the nests, or else, you will face the wrath of the mother dragon."
"We have six other breeds of Lorleidian dragons."
"Water, fire, wind, earth, metal, and lightning."
"One of us could escort you to the area if you wish it."
It took a while though a messenger eventually returned to the port, allowing access to the palace. General Bellum and his entourage were escorted there by a large group of guardians. All weapons were stripped from the Hasai before allowing entry. There, upon her throne once more, awaited Queen Yolandyi, now more mature in mind and body.
Bellum gave a bow to the Queen, a new red uniform with gold shoulder pads signifying his new rank. Behind him, T0-D scanned the palace walls. He had many looks of bewilderment given his way.
The Hasai felt a draw towards the Queen as his purple eyes fell upon her. “Queen Yolandyi. Good to see you again. I apologize for the long delay between our last meeting. My Empire took lengths to expand our civilization and borders. There was an incident with the Rakashi. They tried to enslave our first colonists with spores. Were you aware they had this ability?”
"Goodness, dear Bellum, you have not seen me in all these years and the first thing you do is just like the last time we met," Yolandyi actually gave a small chuckle, seemingly amused, now, a softer look in her eyes. Her king was at her side, a little one in her lap, and already, her belly was swelling with another child. She seemed happier, not as despondent as before, taking her role of queen more seriously. "You and your questions. Though, to answer your inquiry, I did not."
“Unfortunate. Luckily, there were only 14 colonist casualties. And we only had to burn 4 out of the 7 Hiveminds to bring an end to the conflict, as well as avoid genocide. The act of meeting you and bringing peace to the conflict promoted me to Admiral. There is no ill feelings towards you for not knowing that the Rakashi had multiple  natures.”
"I am glad to hear of your expansion though I do regret I had no knowledge of the plants being malicious. However, I am delighted you made peace with such an amazing species," Yolandyi then inquired of Bellum, "Though, it is now my turn to ask you a question, Admiral Bellum. Once again, just like old times, why are you here?"
“To negotiate further trade? And perhaps a chance to study Lorliedian culture closer?”
"Very well." Yolandyi gently set her firstborn into her husband's lap, carefully descending the stairs with a dragon at her side to steady her balance. "I will have my council draw up trade contracts for items of your choosing. What do you wish to know of Lorleidian culture? I would be happy to have my most esteemed scholars educate you."
“Your magic, your art, your agriculture, your lineage. Just to start.”
"That can be arranged." Yolandyi thought it was a little odd that Bellum wished to learn of her people's culture, but decided not to argue against it. After all, nothing harmful could become of it. "Though my lineage, Admiral, does not trace back to the past kings and queens of Lorleidi. Each king and queen is chosen for the throne. It does not necessarily follow a bloodline."
“Interesting and intriguing. So you were elected. Was your King as well?”
"I chose my king, Admiral," Yolandyi stopped in front of Bellum, a soft smile on her face. "A marriage is not true unless it is for love. You have not changed much since we last met," Her hand raised once more and placed itself upon Bellum's cheek, feeling of his energies once more. "... indeed. Simply the same."
“I don’t see a reason to change. I am content with the man I am and the position in life I hold.”
T0-D looked at Yolandyi with bewilderment. His hand mimicked her reaching out to Bellum. “Error: I do not understand the need for physical connection. Can you read Admiral Bellum’s electronic flow?”
"Change is inevitable for all of us, Admiral." Yolandyi told the Hasai, "Whether it be mind, age, or experience, everything in the world changes. I was simply curious to see if you were any different." When T0-D posed a question to Yolandyi, she looked curious at the talking metal man. "I am a Dusa, a magic user of life energies. I can sense Admiral Bellum's emotions and feel his life force. So... I suppose you're asking if I can read his 'nerves'?"
“Queen Yolandyi. Meet T Zero dash D. T0-D is an artificial creation I found on an expedition. It took me quite the amount of time to repay him. He knows who created him, but has lost his memory to time.”
“Confirmation: Nerves. What do you see? Can you see the same in me? Can I see the same in you?”
"... Tod." Yolandyi figured a name would be more suiting than a couple of letters and a number. "A piece of Sheikah technology, I presume?" Holding out her hand, she gently took the robot's and over turned her palm. "You and I are very different, Tod, but in some ways we are the same." She flexed her fingers, "We both have hands, and it seems, you share Admiral Bellum's curiosity. Would you like to learn alongside him?"
“I would. The Admiral spoke highly of you.”
If Bellum was at all flustered, he didn’t show any change of it in his expression. “Of course. The Queen is a fascinating individual.”
"Oh, he did, did he?" Yolandyi stole a glance at Bellum, noticing the subtle change in his energy but said nothing. "While your council and mine agree upon trade, I shall have my best scholars educate you in our palace's library where we keep our history. If you need lodging for the night, the guest rooms are available."
“Thank you, Queen Yolandyi. I look forward to understanding your culture in depth.” Bellum nodded to the Queen.
“Queen Yolandyi… Are you aware of someone by the name of Ganondorf?”
"Yes, I am." Yolandyi answered honestly, "He came here years ago when he was but a young boy, dying from a poison in his veins. I saved him from perishing and he stayed a while on the island in my care. I did not know of his identity until an undead Gerudo came to look for him."
“Queen Yolandyi…” Bellum checked his wrist collars, taking a breath. “I don’t see any other way to tell you this without being blunt. You came close to an invasion by his forces. Our border patrol close to your territory intercepted a navy force of his. We were quick to respond against a large force of monsters. They would have been 4 hours out had the Empire not intercepted.”
"... what?" Yolandyi looked extremely shocked by this news, disbelief covering her features. Even her king looked concerned, as well as the guardians and dragons in the room. "Surely you're jesting? I saved his life, he stayed with me for a few months. He has no ill will against me. Why would he want to invade Lorleidi?"
“We didn’t know for certain, but he attacked us on first contact and was making a beeline for your nation. I was close, and intercepted. There was a large engagement between my forces and Ganondorf’s. He fled with 15% of his fleet back to wherever he came from. After learning his name, our spies did research. We found a legacy. Ganon. King of Evil. A demon reincarnated for generations originating from the country of Hyrule. Sometimes man. Often monster. Always filled with darkness in his soul. And seeking power by exploiting others. Do you have any source of power he’d want?”
"... he told me his name was Xanatos and had no ill will toward me or my people then." Yolandyi wondered what could have possibly changed. The scared boy she saved in the street was simply looking for help. The continent had treated him poorly and he had escaped to Lorleidi via a Danjuran fishing vessel. She was highly confused, though when the undead soldier, Klinge, had come to look for his brother in arms, Ganondorf was not the name he used. Later, she learned through the history of Hyrule who had dealt with Ganondorf before for centuries. Yet, she figured it had to be a mistake.
It seemed she was in the wrong. Already, her king was ordering precautions to be put in place. "Thank you for relaying the information to me. I will be sure to strengthen our borders' guardians. As far as power," The queen did not like to go into detail to outsiders, though every single person on Lorleidi knew of the powerful artifacts of her people. Either way, Admiral Bellum would learn. "We have three precious pieces of history which contribute to our power. The Dusa Magija is our book containing the histories and abilities of the kings and queens of the past, of which only the chosen monarch may read and practice. A key which unlocks this book can only be used by the current ruler. Lastly, we have a pair gauntlets which seer into the body of current king or queen to allow them access to this magic."
Holding up her arms, Yolandyi gestured to the tattoos, "It is useless in the hands of an outsider. If a source of evil ever tried to take these artifacts, then the island would collapse in on itself, resulting in disaster."
Bellum put his hand to his chin, pondering this information over. “Then we know Ganondorf’s target. With luck, you’ll see him again. I would be a waste of life and culture for your island to sink into the ocean.”
"We will protect what is ours with all we have, Admiral." Yolandyi felt a sense of pity for Ganondorf. What could have happened to the young boy who was so frightened? What caused him to turn to such dark forces? She said a silent prayer for his soul to the deities, hoping he would find peace and love to keep him away from the shadows. "There are too many innocents to protect."
"Then you best sharpen your sword and bare your fangs for times ahead Queen Yolandyi."
T0-D wasn't paying attention to the rising concerns of the humans. Glancing around, his eye fixated on the little baby next to the King. "What is that? Why is this human so small?"
Bellum turned his gaze over at his robotic assistant, raising an eyebrow. "T0-D. That is a baby."
"Why is a baby so small? When I was created, I was made the size I am now."
Yolandyi started to reply to Bellum when the robot's inquiry surprised her. Had he never seen such a small child? It amused the young queen to no end, watching T0-D be so insistent that something could possibly be amiss. Everyone had to learn, she supposed.
"Humans are made in a different way, Tod." Yolandyi elaborated, "Sexual intercourse creates the child, and the mother carries the baby until it is time for it to be born. Then, as time passes, the child grows and changes. I did not start out this way, and I will not end this way."
"Organic Change? Is that why you expire?"
"Yes." Yolandyi thought it was as good as reasoning as any. "We have a set time, Tod. We are not internal like this. Only in spirit."
T0-D paused, his eye darting back and forth between mother and child. He then possed a very serious question. "Do I have a spirit?"
Bellum's eyes opened up wide, the query catching him off guard.
"You have a mind, you have a conscience, and it seems, you can think for yourself." Yolandyi reasoned with Tod, "So, I think it's possible you have a spirit. Don't you, Tod?"
T0-D looked at his mechanic hand, his eye zooming in and out. "Scanning: I am... uncertain. I will need more time to come up with a conclusion."
Bellum cleared his throat, wanting to change the conversation. "Queen Yolandyi. Perhaps I can start by taking a look at how you build your defense-?!" His attention was grabbed the Hasai the Dragon flying away from some of the other dragons. Turned out she was able to convince some of the children that just learned how to fly that a game of tag was good training. "Ah. Seems our civilizations dragons can co-exist well."
"Lorleidian dragons are quite docile unless provoked, Admiral." Yolandyi laughed as she saw the hatchlings declaring victory triumphantly because squeaking when Errek turned to chase them. "It is good for them to play. They learn how to fly better, and learn how to be fair." She then gave an order to the attendants to look after her child while the king and guardians escorted Bellum's staff to the guest quarters. She then gestured for T0-D and Bellum to follow her. "I shall show you to the library where my scholars can educate you on our culture. However, as far as defense goes, do you mean the fighting style of my guardians? Or how we defend an island? Two different tactics, Admiral."
"I think I will start with your island's security. Given the encounter, if I know it, I can coordinate better with your defenses." Bellum made a small chuckle. "I just remembered. My Emperor was hoping to have a child with you. Wanted to mix blood with a powerful magic user. He will understand the fact you have already been taken, yet nevertheless will most likely pout on the denial for at least a couple days."
At the sudden mention of marrying the Hasai Emperor, Yolandyi could not help it. She started a flurry of giggles, trying to stifle the sound was near impossible. After she had composed her demeanor, the queen knew she had to explain.
"While I am most flattered that your emperor wished to consider me as a potential bride, I would have never been able to leave Lorleidi." Yolandyi reasoned with Bellum. "How would I be his empress and queen here? I cannot be in two places at once."
Bellum raised a very confused eyebrow. “I don’t understand the humour. I meant the offer as a one time concubine, if you weren’t already taken by another. No marriage required.”
"Oh." Yolandyi misunderstood the implication and now was a bit flushed in the face. She had not even met this Emperor and he wanted to bed her for the sake of a powerful child? That sounded conceited, but also embarrassed her a little. "I will politely decline. While some Lorleidians practice polyamory, others are monogamous like myself."
“Understandable. I will of course try to do my best to persuade you otherwise, for the sake of the Empire with words of encouragement that go blah blah blah, and on and on, with etc, etc.” Bellum gave a nod. “Well, I did my best convincing, seems you won’t change your mind. Oh well.”
"Tell the emperor if he is interested in winning the heart of a Lorleidian woman, then it is best to pursue her by coming here to find one he is compatible with. Besides," Yolandyi told Bellum, "I am not a Vatra. I am a Dusa. It sounds like the Hasai would be better suited for one of our many users of fire."
“That sounds rather simple. You just mix fire with fire? Not much change. No variation.” Bellum shrugged. “Hasai, with training, can also master electricity. This comes easier to those with Royal Blood.”
"Ah, then the Munjas, who govern lightning, could also be compatible. Mixing fire with a life energy talent," Yolandyi pondered upon the possibilities. "I am not sure what would become in Hasai biology. When two different tribes of Lorleidians intermingle, then the child usually takes after one of the parents, sometimes a grandparent."
“Intriguing. All I know is that the Hasai tribes often mingle with their own. Least, the other tribes don’t mix with the Romtan. Worry there won’t be magical potential.”
"If all you focus upon is power, Admiral, then you will miss the sure opportunity for love." Yolandyi's guardians opened the doors to the massive library. "Here is our most prized treasure in the palace, Admiral. You are at liberty to use any documents you seek, however, they cannot leave here. You are free to ask a scribe for a copy."
“In my experience, Hasai are not a traditionally loving species, least compared to other races.” The Admiral looked around, grabbing a book. “Thank you Queen Yolandyi. T0-D starting reading books. Keep an archive on everything you read. Knowledge is power.”
“Affirmative Admiral Bellum.”
The pair was quick to stuff their noses in books, tuning out the outside world.
"Then perhaps, you could stand to learn a little about love as well." Yolandyi watched as the pair settled in with the massive pile of books. "If you require me, send a guardian." With that, the queen was escorted back to the throne room.
The Admiral and Android spent the entire day and night reading over books. When reading about the Dusa’s artifacts and the royal line, Bellum pondered on something. What if someone of a neutral heart used the artifacts? What if the connections to dragons could be mastered by one without destined blood. He drew up possibilities in his mind until he finally could stay awake no longer.

About a week ago you encounter Zevan in a village, well more like he was getting out of the village brothel as you were looking for a place to rest. By Hells, the uncomfortable silence when your eyes met his. Afterwards he told you on how your siblings are desperate to find you hell even Belphegor; the demon of sloth was actually doing work for once.
As you were enjoying that memory of Zevan's encounter, you started to notice how the once green healty tress were slowly being replaced with burnt withered trees. Confusion has spread you mind wondering what could've done such a thing. Base on how burnt the surrounding trees were it lost have been a war that happen a long time ago. As you were drawing further and further the trees had stopped and revealed a secret.
A clearing was revealed. Showing you the ruins of what looked like to be a small farms that were meant to grow crops or for wine. Your throat had suddenly became dry, your movements had halted. You prayed that this ruins you were in wasn't what you think it was, although you knew in your heart that it was the place you knew. Going to one of the ruin homes you searched for something that would confirm you answer.
You moved aside falled debris and gravel, searching for anything sign or hint of what this place might be. That when you saw it. Behind all the gravel was a small piece of fabric sticking out. Pulling it out of the confinement revealed itself to be a flag. The flag had blue strips on the top and on the bottom of the fabric that had a white surrounding. In the center of the flag was a detailed wolf face that had a snarled showing its fangs.
You were right.
This place was your kingdom.
Any emotion you had early had vanished. You once expressive eyes had become luterless. Dropping the flag you had walked further into you fallen kingom.
~~~
Geralt on the other hand couldn't get you out of his head. He could practically hear your moans, he could feel your touch burning on his skin. He was so close on tracking you down just so he could have you by his side, but it was highly unlikely he could ever find you. Being powerful demon means you could easily hide your scent and changing your appearance for all he know the next person he walks by would be you in disguise.
He shook his head, ridding any thoughts of you. He needs to focus now. He just accepted a request to slay a wraith that was coming from some ruins of an old kingdom. He was currently getting ready to head to the ruins when an old woman with silver eyes had stopped him.
"You Witcher. Are you heading to slay that poor wraith?" Her raspy voice asked him.
"Is there any other reason why I'm heading there?" He said in a smart ass way, the old woman rolled her eyes.
"Before you face the wraith, the moment you meet the burnt village leave this gift to the village." The old lady handed him an small statue that had a woman raising her sword in the air while her other harm was wrapped around a child.
On closer expectations the woman's face had oddly looked like (Y/N). Why would this women give him a state that had you face on it? Then something hit him. He remembered how Zevan told him that a Sin Demon are born not like other demons but killed by sin.
"The woman on the statue. What was her name?" It was a stupid answer, but he needed an answer to confirm it.
The woman gave him a smile that could only be described as a smile remembering a pleasant memory.
"Her name is (Y/N). She was once the ruler of the kingdom where the wraith is. Her kingdom was a heaven for anyone elves, humans, vampires you name it. No poverty, no starving, no unfair laws, it was truly a kingdom that was a heaven."
Geralt notice how the woman's eyes where turning from a bliss to misery.
"Of course, all good things must come to an end. An enemy kingdom wanted to claim her kingdom, she knew that their chances of winning were low, but she wanted to give her people time to evacuate our homes so we can relocate and live on. She died defending her home, the other kingdom knew what she was doing had looked for any citizens that were trying to escape. Only a few manage to escape their hands, the rest....."
Tears started to run down the old lady's face not wanting to continue her story. Geralt had finished the last part of her explanation.
"They were killed." The lady's face nodded.
It all made sense why would a wraith haunt the ruins. They were just a citizen trying to escape only to be killed. Geralt thanked the woman, promising to place the statue when he sees the burnt village.
On his way there Geralt wondered what was it like under you rule. Was it all true just like what the woman said? A place of Heaven? At the same time Geralt couldn’t believe that you the ruler of this kingdom. He just wondered how much wrath was enough for you to become a sin demon.
When the burnt ruins of came into his view, he tied Roach to the nearest tree and retrieved the statue from his bag. Geralt has been to haunted places before, but just walking here made him feel uncomfortable, a rustle from came his feet along with a familiar scent made him stop. Looking down, his foot was had step on a flag that had a wolf on it. Picking it up on closer examination the scent that linger on the flag was all to familiar.
It had belong to you and it was fresh.
Geralt followed the scent where you might be. Your scent had led him was near the outskirts of the remains, there he saw you sitting on a rock it wasn’t until he notice the noonwraith in front of you. His Witcher instincts immediately  told him that he should slay the phantom, but when he got closer the monster didn’t attack him or you at all.
Sensing a presence behind, you turned you head to see what would come here. To your surprise Geralt was just a few feet behind you.
“Nice to see you again, Geralt.” You gave him a weak smile then turning back to your attention back to the wraith. “She won’t hurt you, she just a poor elf who’s bind here due to her unfair death.”
“Seems like you known who this wraith is.” Geralt took the spot on the rock right next to you, you nod at his response.
“Yep, while you and humans just seen the monster form of a soul. A demon such as myself see their real form.”
“What do you see then?” You remained silent before you answered.
“A young elf who is not even at the age of 30 looking at me with such pity eyes.” Which was true the green ghost form to humans was actually a poor elf soul who was still wearing the clothes the day she died with a stab wound on her stomach.
“I’m sure Asmodeus already explained how a sin demon is created? Yes?” You glance at Geralt for a brief moment then looking back at the wraith.  “Well here’s my story on how I came to be.”
You took one deep breath before you prepare yourself from the memories.
“Came from a village somewhere in Toussaint long before Anna Henrietta even became queen. At the age of 17 I left my village in search for something, didn’t know what just....something. It wasn’t long before I helped with a guild and gain recognition for my actions then some lord who’s name I long forgotten gave me a small piece of land where I started to build my kingdom. Nothing more than small refuge village for anyone who needed shelter elves, runaways, vampires, dwarves, you name it. As that village grow it became a city with no ruler, but to the people I was their ruler. It was nothing really I just solved the problems that was going on in the city and made a few laws that was fair for both the lower and upper class.”
Geralt watched and listened to every word you sprouting out of your mouth. Your actions told him how much you really cared for this kingdom.It wasn’t until you took a small pause in your storytelling that told him that he was getting closer to what led to you to become a sin demon.
“A.....an kingdom notice how my home was growing wealthy and powerful. They wanted our kingdom, so they planned an invasion. I knew that their army was much more stronger than ours, so I told the citizens to escape, even if I did fell into battle at least they could escape....I was right I was killed in battle took three swords to make be on my knees. I thought my efforts would be enough to save them....”
Geralt didn’t needed her to hear what she said next. Wiping her tears away as she recalled her death, even when she died she had witness the death of her beloved citizens. The elf woman looked at queen in pity, she wanted to do something to make her feel better, but what could she do? She was died.
“The death of my citizens was enough wrath to make me become a sin demon. When they conquered my home I whispered in the ears of their advisers of power and riches as a way of revenge. The same can be said to the citizens of overthrowing their rulers, it always works. Although, the burden of the death of my citizens never left even to this day.”
Getting up from the rock, you took a step closer to your citizen, then turning your head towards Geralt.
“I won’t let you kill her, but considering the fact you are here to slay her I have an alternate solution.” Pressing your index finger above her chest you chanted a small spell.
“Requiem qui se finxit (rest to the afterlife).”  It pained you to see her go, but it was the right thing to do. Parts of her ghostly body started to disperse in front of your eye.
There was a smile on her face making you puzzled on why she would smile. Perhaps she got to see her queen again?
“It was never your fault. You did all you could even when we died at least we had a place we call home. Thank you my queen.” Before she disappeared completely she gave a full on bow to you and a sweet smile on her face.
You didn’t even realize how late it was when you were talking about your kingdom to Geralt.
“You have a room for tonight?”
“Yeah.”
“Can I join you?”
“Yeah.”
With his permission you followed Geralt back to the village. After earning his payment, you headed straight to the place where Geralt was staying at for the night. It was quite between the two of you, you knew that he and you wanted to talk, but you didn’t know where. The sounds of water splashing broke your train of thoughts, looking up you saw Geralt entering the tub that was set up for him.
His faced was in bliss as the hot water had messaged his aching muscles. Feeling your gazed he turn to your form that was lying on the bed. You quickly turned your attention away when he caught you staring.
“Your free to join me if you wish.” A sudden rise of heat had spread around your cheeks.
Geralt chuckled, loving the fact that someone who calls themselves a sin demon was easily teased by him. He watche as you got off the bed and started to strip in front of him then removing your shoes.
“No, privacy?” You raised your eyes in a mocking way.
“You already saw me naked, so any type of privacy was removed when we had sex.” You slowly entered the tub with him, sinking in relaxing bath you had in awhile.
For a moment the two of you didn’t have a conversation only just bathing in complete silence. It wasn’t until you spoke up that was about the questions that he still didn’t asked you.
“You still have seven questions for me to answer. And now that we are here..” You moved into a more comfortable, “You are welcome to ask questions.”
Geralt thought for a moment of what he should ask you about. Before he knew about your kingdom, he wanted to know more about what you were. But now that he knew about your past. Most of his questions became answers, although that still didn’t mean that he was still curious about you.
“What’s you powers?
“Anything that can rival the most skilled mages and powerful elves.”
“Are your siblings looking for you?”
“Yes, from what I heard even by lazy brother, Belphegor is actually trying to find me.”
“Do you think you’ll ever go back?”
“Maybe. Maybe not.” You gave a sly smirk much to Geralt’s amusement
“That’s childish of you.” You shrugged in response. “What will you do now?”
“Wander most likely.”
“What have you been doing the last time we met?”
“Nothing to exciting, just wandering, helped a little, blah blah.”
“Starting to realize that Earth isn’t fun?” He teased only for you to give him a sly smirk.
“No, just haven’t found source of excitement that can keep me entertained.” Leaning forward towards Geralt, both your chests where touching. Your hands wrapped around his neck as his hands moved slowly down to your waist. The slow contact made you release a moan slowly turning you on. “Last Question Geralt, ask wisely.” You panted.
“And if I ask you to join?” Geralt leaned forward, both of your lips were close to touching.
“Then I would gladly join.” Tilting your head up, both your lips had met where they fought once again for dominance sealing the deal between the two of you.
And done! Hope you enjoy the final chapter of Demon in Disguise. There will be more Witcher fics coming soon, such as
The Best Transmigration and Isekai Mangas/Manhwas/Manhuas I’m Reading Right Now
Does anyone care about this list? Probably not, but I’m making it even if it’s only for my reference. So here they are, in no particular order.
* English Title: I’m a Villainous Daughter, so I’m going to keep the Last Boss * Japanese Title: Akuyaku Reijou nanode Last Boss wo Kattemimashita * Mangaka: Nagase Sarasa (story), Anko Yuzu (art) * Summary: “Avoid the BAD END! That's the goal of the villainess in this plot-twisting story!! She has been reborn into the world of an otome game as the villainess, Irene. Using her memories of her former life, she recognizes flags indicating she's en-route to the bad end, so she makes a plan to conquer the last boss (the evil king Claude), make him her lover, and see if she can open up a new route!” (MyAnimeList) * Why I Like This One: Irene is a very fun character! I love her sheer determination in everything she does. Her love interest (Claude) is nothing special imo - classic misunderstood character - but his relationship with Irene is pretty sweet. There are some interesting twists in the plot, too!
* Title: Miss Not-So Sidekick * Creator: Ellianyang * Summary: “Hyejung loved to read to escape her daily stress. But that’s before she woke up inside the bizarre world of her favorite novel! Instead of the main heroine who courts three eligible men, she is now Latte Ectrie – a minor villain that everyone hates?! One way or another, it’s a chance to live out her most beloved storyline, with popcorn in hand to watch all the drama! Taking charge of the narrative takes on a whole new meaning!” (1stKissManga) * Why I Like This One: Latte isn’t actually interested in romance! She would much rather watch how the narrative plays out than take an active role in it. Therefore, she decides to befriend the protagonist. However, just by virtue of being herself, Latte seems to have thrown the narrative off-course! (Not that she realizes that it’s her fault.) The developing relationships are fun to watch. However, this is very much a slow burn. Another fun thing about this manhwa is how Ellianyang throws in all sorts of references to other works such as Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure and Detective Conan!
* English Title: Of Course, I’ll Claim Palimony! * Japanese Title: Mochiron, Isharyou Seikyuu Itashimasu! * Mangaka: Soy (story), Mutou Tamura (story) * Summary: “"I'll annul our engagement!" my fiancé suddenly declared?! Apparently he's in love with the recently transferred count's daughter and is planning on making me the villain in order to annul the engagement. Although I have no lingering attachments about the engagement, I do have to claim a hefty consolation fee, don't I?” (MyAnimeList) * Why I Like This One: “Of Course, I’ll Claim Palimony!” does something very fun in that the otome novel that is being referenced exists within the story. The protagonists are very aware of this and the main heroine is most definitely willing to work within and with the narrative to turn things to her advantage.
* English Title: I Reincarnated into an Otome Game as a Villainess With Only Destruction Flags... * Japanese Title: Otome Game no Hametsu Flag shika Nai Akuyaku Reijou ni Tensei shiteshimatta... * Mangaka: Yamaguchi Satoru (story), Hidaka Nami (Art) * Summary: “ Katarina Claes is the eight-year-old daughter of a duke. One day, she hits her head and recovers the memories of her past life, and she comes a horrifying realization—she is in a world similar to that of an otome game she once played, and she is the main villain! To make matters worse, in every possible conclusion, whether exile or death, she is met with a terrible end. Using her knowledge of how the game unfolds, Katarina must now do whatever it takes to change her fate. Whether she must cultivate  her skills as a farmer or befriend every character that comes her way, nothing is ever too much for her to handle. As the years go on, everything seems to be going as planned. However, Katarina realizes that she made a mistake in her previous life, as she never actually finished the game before death; and so a new, secret route may just prove to be her undoing.” * Why I Like This One: This is the quintessential isekai! Katarina is a stubborn yet naive character. She is doing all she can to change the narrative, but she is always surprised by the results! Still, I like that the creators aren’t shying away from making lovely female characters besides Katarina. There were also some twists that I really wasn’t expecting from a manga like this! An anime adaptation is coming soon.
* English Title: Endo and Kobayashi’s Live Commentary on the Villainess! * Japanese Title: Tsundere Akuyaku Reijou Liselotte to Jikkyou no Endo-kun to Kaisetsu no Kobayashi-san * Mangaka: Enoshima Suzu, Sakakiri * Summary: “She’s always putting on that grumpy face even though she’s not actually that upset! Oh, why can’t she just be honest with herself…!? She is a tsundere, after all? When her embarrassment levels exceed a certain limit, she will explode into anger. However, the point that she’s suppressing under the surface is that she wouldn’t mind that sort of thing if it were in a less public place? As Endo-kun passionately reacts to the antics of Lady Liselotte, the villainess of an otome game, Kobayashi-san provides a painstaking breakdown of her tsundere behaviour. Suddenly, one person could hear their voices; Liselotte’s fiancée, Prince Siegward. That is where this story begins.” (MangaGo) * Why I Like This One: The characters within the narrative, Liselotte and Siegward, actually interest me way less than Endo and Kobayashi. I can’t wait to see how they handle this sudden change in their lives! And it seems that there is someone behind this magic game but the game wasn’t their intention? I’m curious.
* English Title: The Death Mage That Doesn’t Want a Fourth Time * Japanese Title: Yondome wa Iya na Shizokusei Majutsushi * Mangaka: Densuke (story), Kojima Takehiro (Art) * Summary: “Amamiya Hiroto is unlucky. His life consisted of misfortune after misfortune, culminating in an unlucky death during an incident on a school boat trip, trying to save a girl he barely knew. After death, he met a god of reincarnation who requested that the hundred or so dead passengers—one of them being the girl he tried in vain to save—be reincarnated into another world. Yet a series of unfortunate events forced Hiroto to reincarnate with even less luck than before, starting with nothing but a tremendous amount of Mana. His second life, far worse than his first, came to a cruel end. However, upon meeting the god a second time, he was informed that there would be yet another reincarnation—one that had already been set in motion and could not be stopped. Not wanting Hiroto to endure a third life filled with suffering, the god cursed him before he was reborn in the hopes that he would either die quickly or commit suicide. Hiroto was reborn once more as a half-vampire, half-dark elf. A dhampir. Not wanting a fourth life, he is determined to live this third life with the only things remaining from his previous lives—Death Magic and his enormous Mana pool. “ (Light Novel Bastion) * Why I Like This One: Holy crap, those first chapters were dark. This manga is certainly proving that isekai isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Honestly, the real thing that keeps drawing me back is the found family dynamic. I could do without all the fanservice though...
* Title: Cheating Men Must Die * Creator: The King * Summary: “One moment oppressing scum yields a moment of satisfaction. Continuously oppressing scum yields continuous satisfaction. Our female main lead, Su Lüxia is bound to the Female Lead Counterattack System and transmigrates to several small worlds. Using elaborate means, she beats up countless cheating bastards and bitches. Su Lüxia: “Only a cheating bastard's tears of remorse, and the pained moans of a bitch unable to get what she wants bring me solace.” System: “Has my host tapped into her humanity today? Nope.”” (Manga Rock) * Why I Like This One: This manhua is just a long ride of schadenfreude. The story goes in arcs, and there is no doubt that Su Lüxia is going to trample those cheaters, but how she does it is always a surprise! The art is beautiful and the story wildly entertaining. Readers beware, however, as this manhua features themes such as sexual assault, suicide, and abuse.
* English Title: Though I May Be a Villainess, I’ll Show You I Can Obtain Happiness! * Japanese Title: Akuyaku Reijou Desuga, Shiawase ni Natte Mesemasu wa! * Mangakas: Hoshino Osome, Nekomata Doremi, Sorakura SHIJIKI, Yuuki Satoru, Kuroe Yui, Reiga Utsuhou, Yamashiro Umemayuge, Mafuyubi, Oshitsuji Ei, Mizuno Saaya * Summary: "Annuled Engagements, Take That’s, Condemnation Events, Doting, Royals, Reincarnated Heroines, Banishment Endings…it’s fully loaded with all the charms of Villainess’!! A comicalization of 5 popular villainess stories from Shousetsuka ni Narou!! An anthology of 5 oneshots with happy endings!!” (IsekaiScan) * Why I Like This One: This is an anthology and all the stories are very different. My personal favorites are “The Tale of the Noble Girl who will go to a Monastery after her Engagement Annulment,” “Shall We Walk Hand in Hand Down the Flowery Path of Evil?” and “The Villainess Trifles with the Second Prince’s First Love.”
* Title: IRIS - Lady with a Smartphone * Creators: Soo-Wan Yoo (author), Hye-Yi Yoon (artist) * Summary: “ The husband was in love with her cousin and the family was taken away by cigar. The moment I fell into despair and to end my life; the memory of my past life came to my mind.The life of a white-haired worker in Seoul, returning to the past, she decided. “I will not be abandoned by them again. Now I will forsake them!”Ian stare full gazed at Iris’ eyes, “Do you remember what I said the other day? Are you asking for a different fee?”“Yes. I want to get it now.” Iris, was a woman who had nothing. “I did not have a strong parent like other noble princess, nor did I have much money.”“What do you mean by yourself?” Iris blinked. He laughed and said. “Let’s have a relationship with me.” The eldest son of the line, the best of the empire, the best dancer Valencia is the perfect husband. The rope for the revenge makes me crave for more.” (1stKissManga) * Why I Like This One: Iris’ evolution is a delight to watch. The smartphone hasn’t actually played much of a role at this point, but the importance of it’s existence in Iris’ world is slowly being revealed. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the beautiful art and story!
Mental Health in Anime - Rant + Vitamin (Manga) - Thoughts
Sorry for the random capslock. I do that when I’m really livid.
Trigger warning: This post mentions mental illness including depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and eating disorders. It mentions suicide and assault that may make some readers uncomfortable.
I wanted to keep this safe for the guidelines, but I also didn’t want to shy away from these topics because I know how hard these things hit sometimes, and I don’t want to shy away from things like these anymore. These topics all have a huge place in my life which I advocate for, and I wouldn’t want to downplay it.
For the first time in a VERY long time, I read a manga series. Series meaning three chapters. I have commitment issues. Lots of them. Anyway, I read it thinking, “I want to read a series that addresses mental health in a more realistic way”. Why do I say that? Well, for now, I’m going to rant about anime and mental health as a whole. After that, I will get to the manga I just read. It won’t be a review as much as it’ll be the thoughts I had on it.
Well, shounen anime I’ve watched and the stuff that’s directed towards me definitely doesn’t touch mental health often. You can see below that shounen manga will do ANYTHING ELSE BUT THAT. Usually, it’s shoujo manga that gets into emotional territory, and sometimes, I watch it for stuff like that. I don’t want to watch something that tells me to man up all the time or that friendship is everything or that I can have superpowers and be admired by people out there all the time. When it comes down to it, sometimes I want characters that I can relate to on a more intimate level. I want to feel like I can have a heart-to-heart with them without someone out there laughing at me. I don’t want to cry tears that are laughed at. But even then, a whole lot of the time, I don’t see mental health interpreted well in anime.
Well, let’s see... as a general overview, let’s see what I’ve seen in depictions of shounen and shoujo anime/manga:
Shounen manga:
CHILDHOOD TRAUMA IS NORMAL. DEAL THE F**K WITH IT. HAD YOUR PARENTS KILLED? ME TOO. BEEN MURDERED? ME TOO. I’M DEAD. IN FACT, I’VE MURDERED PEOPLE. Mental health? They can barely keep their regular health in order. The only treatment you need is friendship speeches and training montages. Trauma makes you stronger even if it breaks you with no one there to help you. It’s alright until you’re dead.
Examples: - The entire cast of Naruto ~ Yeah, Naruto’s an orphan, his village hates him, he was bullied, he made through his childhood struggles by making it through mischief. Sasuke had his entire family killed by his brother. I can go on. - BNHA Class ~ Attacked by villains? Who gives a f**k, you’re aiming to become heroes. Please, we already spent the budget on those costumes. No one needs help. Hell, we spent our health budget on Deku’s bones. No complaints.  - Mirai Nikki ~ I know it’s like all other manga where they give it the excuse that it’s the point of the series, but we all know both Yukki and Yuno are not healthy.
Shoujo manga:
Your beloved what’s-his-face will come running in to save your butt because we know that real help is an illusion. Issues can be solved if you fall in love... obviously.
Too many examples to list. Let’s move on.
Bad Examples:
This is just my opinion. Maybe you think this series interpreted it well, but for at least the first part of the series, all of these did not.
Soul Eater: Death the Kid
I know it’s supposed to be funny, but come on, the guy needs help. No one addresses it. It bothered me the whole time I was watching the show. I think you can make me laugh without making fun of OCD.
I think you can leave Crona agender WITHOUT forcing pronouns onto them. Seriously, some people think that Crona’s gender is a joke. I’m still not over the fact Funimation thought that “he/him” was the most gender-neutral they can get.
Literally Watamote’s existence
It’s about a person with social anxiety? See? It’s funny. Because... they’re socially awkward... and anxious... I don’t get it.
The Beginning of Watashi ga Motete Dousunda
NOW, THIS. THIS IS THE REASON WHY I DIDN’T WANT TO EVEN TOUCH THIS ANIME.
How is “losing a ton of weight randomly” healthy? Or even more beyond that, her dreams come true once she does? Uh... for a comedic reason? Hmm... that’s not a very good reason. I think we ought to deal with eating disorders in a better way than this.
Bungou Stray Dogs: Osamu Dazai
There are many reasons why I was uneasy with Bungou Stray Dogs for a while. Dazai was practically the sole reason. I get that Asagiri (the creator) wanted to dodge the interpretation of real-life Dazai’s suicidal tendencies but his anguish came from literal turmoil and struggle. We learn that Dazai’s does too, but it’s portrayed in such a superficial way, and while I do that too as a coping mechanism, I completely understand when people say they will never touch Bungou Stray Dogs because Dazai sets a bad precedence. I personally do not like the way that they chose to go about this. It’s one of the reasons why I actually don’t like Dazai as much as others do.
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
I understand that this is a weird Studio Shaft series, but joking about suicide to this extent made me find it a bit distasteful.
Good/Better Examples:
These ones tried and did a slightly better job than the ones before. I didn’t comment on the ones I haven’t watched.
A Silent Voice
This story is about a depressed and suicidal man who tries to atone for his past deeds and sins. It’s a beautifully adapted movie, an arguably better manga, and it’s just a masterpiece.
Yuri!!! On Ice
The main force working against our protagonist is himself, or more specifically, his anxiety. As an older figure skater, he has a tough time with his self-image, handling his nerves, etc. I relate.
School-Live!
Yuki lives in a lie and has problems facing the truth about her reality. This is arguably played off as a horror trope, but I found it pretty well-done.
Your Lie in April
The character deals with past trauma with the abuse of his deceased mother.
Tsuritama
It properly and accurately interprets social anxiety as a kid who keeps moving has to introduce himself over and over again. He feels like he’s drowning and gets pulled up into fishing with his friends as he tries to learn how to handle his stresses with the people around him.
Anohana
The cast has a ton of problems dealing with their past trauma and has no choice but to face it by all means necessary. They didn’t get proper help even though they should’ve.
Monster
Orange
March Comes in Like a Lion
This boy overcomes past trauma and stress by relying on those close to him.
Psycho-Pass
Fullmetal Alchemist
This deals with everything from our characters’ past trauma to post-partum depression (the first time I have ever seen it interpreted in an anime and a SHOUNEN anime at that).
Vitamin - Thoughts (BELOW)
I read this manga knowing that it contained content to do with mental health, and honestly, I don’t think it had enough time to fully flesh out its capabilities. Its THREE-CHAPTER run was super fast. And it was heavy. And I mean HEAVY. The art was done powerfully. The contents of the story weren’t filtered; it wasn’t held back.
We deal with a character who’s on top of the world with friends, a boyfriend, good studying habits, but it spirals out of control fast.
This anime deals with many untouchable topics such as the risk of suicide, mental illness, (I swear I’m gonna get flagged) s**ual assault, eating disorders, drug abuse, and probably a few other things that I missed.
This hit me and had me having feelings like the little bitch I am. Holy cow cakes. I was reading this with my mom in the same room just trying to not look like the little poop I am. That stuff hit so hard and so close to home.
You think it’s too out there to really be true, but I don’t think so. At my old school, we definitely had stuff like that.
The growth of this character was rushed, and even if it’s slightly exaggerated, I empathized and felt her pain because bro, I’ve kinda (not to that extent) been there too. It dealt with her attempt, drug abuse, assault, bulimia, and everything. It was blinding, hurtful, and it tears open wounds like no tomorrow.
This isn’t even this mangaka’s first time at it. She has written quite a bit of heavy shoujo stuff.
The ending felt so satisfying. This manga wasn’t eye-opening in ways that it might be for some people. I have been to places like those. I know how it feels. I know other people have been there too, but to see it so rawly interpreted into a manga-format for people to read, that was unexpected. Overall, it was a really well-done manga. In a way, I wish it was longer so it would be a bit more realistic in some ways, but at the same time, I’m not sure how much longer I would’ve lasted.
