Absolutely great episode. A little scared at what the iceberg melting means for the rest of their journey, and sad that Evan didn't get chosen in piss bc of what he said in the last adventuring party (bleem mentioned he thought the goat stamp on his ass meant that the goat claimed him, which is why tad could only leave a paw print rather than his whole pussy) but! All around great!
"I already have power I'll take knowledge"
"my tiddies? Brown."
"tell weugan I said hi" HOLY SHIT! THAT GOAT FUCKED THAT WOLF!!!
and above that, I love LOVE how much Aabria is trying to get them to fight these concepts of magic, and how much the misfits are straight up refusing the call. She had to start the episode with a check just to try to hurt them
THEE great sky serpent! Quetzy! A being of great hate and malice that they made friends with by letting it go home! Fuck that rocked
The scale here seems really interesting, too. Earlier this season Evan mentioned something about how wizard civilization diverted from normal civilization around the Advent of the printing press? But this ep confirmed it as old, older than what we know as recorded history.
And that they were barking up the wrong tree! God what a save by Danielle. That they assumed the funnels and the well were all necessary for magic, a truth of magic, instead just another Bombini classic. my guess is magic, true magic, used to look a lot closer to standard DND style, and the OG founders created the well to make magic easier, and this magic was less efficient, so less people could perform it.
And I love LOVE how Aabria is challenging everyone's preconceptions about magic. At the top of the season when K broke their wand, they spoke about the fact that they *can* break their wands with almost. Incredulity. "No way I would break my wand!" Type attitude. And slowly but surely everyone loses theirs one by one, wrapping up with jammer realizing that it's not necessary, it's not even good to have, it's holding him back.
And last one. The components! So cool. Performance intention and material, and that it doesn't necessitate something specific. The material of K throwing dirt could just as easily been rocks, or holding up a sheet of paper. It's giving "someone just replaced the blood component in a summoning ritual with tapioca and it worked" but across everything magic needs - almost like it's all just folk magic at the bottom, and everything beyond that is just having fun, messing around.

We bid a very fond adieu to INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE and the coven Théâtre des Vampires.
Take a bow, luvvies!

Especially Esme Appleton and Suzanne Andrade (who play Estelle and Celeste, respectively) the duo who are co-artistic directors of theatre 1927 which was responsible for the expressionism style of the plays and its projections.

Fans can at least rest easy knowing that there will be a third series.

Until then they and swoon over, swear over, sneer at or salute series two's finale.
SPOILER FILLED THOUGHTS

THE GOOD
-Pretty much everything: Louis avenging Claudia (and Madeleine though IIRC her name wasn't even uttered this episode).
The bad thing about a fantastic villain is losing them and Santiago you had to die.
You did what with Claudia's ashes???

But Ben Daniels, how do I love thee.

-Armand and how he fumbled a bad b*tch part 2. My maître made mistakes, yes. But I'm going to pull a page out of Claudia's playbook of how she asked the coven if she could cry and say she's sorry too. Can't Armand cry like Lestat and be forgiven? What do you mean what he did was unforgiveable?
It's terrible that Claudia was used as a pawn in Louis, Lestat and Armand's relationships. Louis needed her for salvation, Lestat had to turn her for the man she loved then resented her for the space she took in their relationship and then Armand, whether he was adhering to the Great Laws or not, went along with her murder IMO because he was fed up with Louis performing an affectation of love while Armand's neck was on the line.
Louis knew how to use Armand's vulnerabilities to keep him compliant and would turn cold when Armand wouldn't do what was being asked of him. Whether Santiago and the coven were gunning for Armand or not because of him letting the de Pointe du Lac de Lioncourts slide, Armand was ready to kill them because he hated that he was used and willingly let himself be used out of a need for love.

He was so angry that he workshopped his hurt with the coven. I absolutely loved that he gave Sam a note about how the script didn't go deep enough into Louis' hoarding. Armand sat there listening to Louis talk about his Grey Gardens years like,

Armand was fine with killing them in this protracted show trial, but had Louis burned, it would be a relatively quick death. I think when Armand heard Louis' screaming and knew he was approaching death, he had a change of heart and freed him.
And LOUIS STILL WOULDN'T LEAVE TOWN WHEN ASKED!

These three led their relationships as poorly as their joint hand hearts.

-That leads to the reveal that Lestat made the choice to save Louis over Claudia and Madeleine. Which I don't think was even much of a choice to him. Yes, he would rather not Claudia die, but he figured it was fait accompli because he knew these vampires (as he warned Claudia in S1) and knew their ruthlessness. But there was no way he was going to let Louis die.
He brags about having Akasha blood in him, but he's still bleeding from the ear when using that mind control power. You still need to level up after Akasha?? A booster from a more powerful vamp?

Claudia's death hurt him much more than he thought it would. He probably figured there would be feelings - she is his fledgling - but the horror and the finality of it devastated him. His daughter (and how great was it that Louis kept pushing that fact. She was their daughter.)
Which leads hovel Lestat.
Candlelit, ramshackled dwelling, with a wooden "piano", but practising with an iPad?

Lestat, if you don't get on Amazon and order one of these!

Lestat, know who you should bring on your tour? The grandson of Tom Anderson, Sidney.

The Louis and Lestat reunion was beautiful and perfect in every way. But then again, I love when characters have a powerful moment while chaos is around them.

And Louis chose himself! He didn't need to get back with Lestat, they both just really needed closure and forgiveness. The rest can come later.

And even though we will likely never know what Louis says to Lestat, I think he says "I love you" at the end because that would be the last bit of healing Louis needs because kept himself from saying those words to Lestat their entire relationship.

THE BAD
FIle Not Found
THE REST
-Sam isn't author Samuel Beckett, but Sam the Talamasca informant and helmet wearing DJ, possibly Deadmau5?

-At first I wondered why Louis' -whose family had a legacy in New Orleans- name would be lost to history, yet Lestat's alias is known. That Tom's and the Alderman's rep was still known, Louis' would as well and not just call him a Creole businessman. Then I wondered if it was because Grace "buried" Louis but her getting that crypt was symbolic. Even if their deed and other paperwork was under Lestat's aliases, the town knew who they were by name and I would think their names would be bandied about as much as Tom's as Louis and his "child bride" and Lestat went missing the same night as Tom, et al. But then I told myself I'm not Neil DeGrasse Tyson so I'm going to just enjoy and not logic police.
-In post-episode featurette Rollin says Daniel's vampire reveal happens when Daniel take off his sunglasses, meanwhile he's flashing almond shape nails throughout his interview. We know this man has been turned immediately.

-The limo driver talking about his wife wanting to see New Edition at Essence Fest - N.E actually did play Essence Fest in 2022 so hat tip to the writers for putting that in.
-Louis returning home albeit briefly. I love that this episode addresses his family. This is completion. He has put down everything he was carrying and is ready to move into his new life. This was what he wanted to do when he and Claudia first left, but he couldn't move on because of "killing" Lestat. He's exorcised his ghosts.
-A Reddit user pointed out that the name above the crypt Louis uses to store his fresh kills is "Mapothier" and posits if it is a nod to Tom Cruise as his real surname is "Mapother".

-Louis is still an AmEx holder, but now a black card haver.

-Louis was the knight and now he owns it.

Talk your sh*t, LDPDL!

-Not from the episode, but I love how Jacob does the excited smack and it doesn't jar Sam at all.

I Knew I’d Like You
(AKA Sam and Daniel, season 1)
@fighting-naturalist you asked for the essay, here it starts
She thought he was dead, everyone did (except for Jack's team and well, Hammond (see 1969)). But she knew how important he was to the program, to her work. But she never knew how close they could be.
When they arrived on Abydos again, she was instantly geeking. And Daniel, for maybe the first time ever, was the one left confused and speechless. But then he gave her the one answer she hadn't found in two years, in a field he "doesn't pretend to know anything about." Suddenly, she had a partner in crime. Another doctor in a sea of hardcore military men. Then she’s pulling him out of the line of fire and doing her best to keep him comfortable when he comes to. They come through the gate together, synchronised in their defence of his people. They instantly bonded over nerd behaviour, but it quickly went deeper. “You can’t just stay awake forever.” She was understanding of his position but caring, and honestly I don’t know if Jack would’ve got him to go to bed (He might have, but it probably would’ve been more of a fight. At that point anyway.) There’s other little moments like Daniel being the one to come get her in the tent when she’s singled out in emancipation.
Jack, under the influence of the touched virus mind you, sees Daniel’s care for Sam as something more, even though Daniel was insistent on Sam being a friend he cared about. (Although Danny boy was giving Jack some looks in that scene but he’s just like that).
Onto Thor’s Hammer. They capture the Goa’uld. She knows what Daniel’s thinking about doing with the rest. She tries to stop him. She almost gets through to him, not wanting him to tarnish his character. But he turns around, shooting the tank. And she just falls silent, carefully taking the weapon away. She knows exactly why he did it, as unwarranted as it was in her mind. She knows she couldn’t have stopped him, not really. And she never judges him for it, never brings it up again.
Fire and Water. They all think he’s dead, but Sam has the most immediate difficulty. She’s the one in his diary, personal effects that everyone else was avoiding. She was the one that went forth with the hypnotism, not dismissing it in hopes of answers. Then she’s immediately guilty when she realizes they left him behind. Then the way she finds him in Hathor, brainwashed and defenceless, she can only watch in pain and walk away, there’s a mission to complete.
Jump to singularity, very well thee Sam & Daniel moment of the season. She’s the most attached to Cassandra, but he’s second in line. He’s sitting outside the girl’s room, where Sam also is, almost as a guard. He assures Sam she doesn’t have to do it alone. He’s right there in her corner. She’s distraught, saying she shouldn’t be so attached. She’s become so used to having him around (For what, maybe eight months? Maximum?) That she’s lost full sight of the fact that he’s not actually military. (Not to mention the look on his face in that scene geez Danny do you understand platonics?) And when she’s in the General’s office giving her stance on Cassandra’s situation, Daniel’s right there in the doorway, backing her up. Daniel does have every reason to be there, he knows what Cassie is going through, he was an orphan too. But it’s just as much about Sam to me, he’s been there the whole episode, this was no different.
Obviously in the alternate reality Daniel is thrown to, Sam is with Jack, they’re engaged. But she’s the one that jumps on board with Daniel’s theories, trusting him, sympathising. She’s mixed right into the charge that eventually gets him home. And the Sam of our reality is the same, the first to acknowledge the possibility that he actually did experience an alternate universe.
Couple this all with the fact that Daniel has zero definition of personal space (with anyone but especially with Sam) and the seeds were planted for their bond from the get go. The friendship lines were always blurry, not just with them. Though Daniel wasn’t about to get into anything consensual until after his wife was gone for good, he found an undeniable beautiful relationship with Sam, starting mere seconds after they met.
#stargate sg1#sg1#sam carter#daniel jackson#i love their canon bond but also would love it to be explored further#samdaniel analysis#otp: i knew i'd like you

AMANDA, I was so concerned that these episodes would just be new cast + our barcelona group and I was prepared to be bummed. So I'm happy to see Amanda and not just on a screen. I love that she's like do I need to come out to clean up and just hang out on the beach and enjoy a vacation? Yes. You should've. Both she and Carmen should've gone and just had a vacation. The shower is running…while Daniel is talking and moving into the hotel room. Are he and Johnny sharing a room? Chozen's going to meet them at the cocktail mixer? Is he a co-sensei again or there with his own students? I spy a TV begging to get destroyed. Johnny pulling a Chozen and walking around in just a robe. Also look at him using some of the Spanish he's picked up. Amanda is me and I love the way she says it. It's very soft and fond:
Woah the lighting change between Daniel and Johnny and Amanda to the almost gray of Tory. Tory getting immediately cornered by her sensei being angry oof. And Kreese also coming into her room. Another oof. I was hoping it was either Sam or Robby. Poor Tory. Whoever decided to give Kreese a western string sound, I approve. I bet Martin Kove loves his theme. Johnny: there better be food at this thing. The thing being a cocktail mixer. lol, growth. Dude wants food over the booze. Also return of wearing a red jacket.
So Amanda told Johnny about what happened at the charity event? They dish gossip? I love it. Oh Johnny Chimichangas aren't Spanish...Apparently they were invented in Arizona. Johnny do not make an enemy over food. Daniel must have a "Johnny is hangry and cranky from the flight and about to fight anyone radar" based of the way it went from him schmoozing to literally running over. Oooh Kreese's jacket says sabeom, aka master (like sensei). Kim Da-Eun really had fun designing these didn't she. Look how bored an unexcited these kids are. Come on you're in a new country essentially on a field trip from school. I also love that they ended up at the aquarium. Oh it's the captains only, I was going to say that is not enough kids. How do these other kids know each other and already have beef? Are they all like Johnny? Johnny you should've been part of this, you'd have loved it as a youth. I love that Tory just leaves and the camera guy is like oh I guess we're done. Daniel wandering around asking about the bloody captain headband while Johnny is testing out the gear and scaring the sales people is just...so them. Johnny's review is that they don't hurt so they need to be remade. Bud, isn't the weapon not hurting your students a good thing? I also love that he immediately is like my students are better than the students you have modeling all your gear, and does the proud dad thing of pulling out his phone to show all the photos. If this was set prior to phones full of photos he would've just had one of those photo wallets full that would just keep expanding full of photos wouldn't he? Ummm Johnny did you just say modeling leans to skin flicks and you went down that road? So you modeled, danced and did adult film...Johnny the life you've led and also the fact no one has found this is really lucky. (Also poor salesperson guy) Johnny using his salespitch a la Daniel once he realizes that this could be an opportunity to pay for thee kid's college. Is just very sweet. Kreese how did you get the eunjangdo there? Also not a fan of you opening that guy and wielding it in front of Johnny since in your hallucination you killed him. Johnny's 😂 so unimpressed and just like these nunchucks could take care of that little knife there huh? Johnny is there anyone your not going to bicker with? The way that deflated the danger almost immediately. Like as the audience we know the danger but Johnny's just like gramps has a little knife, well guess what this guy sells nunchucks. So what? His ability to not know and not give a fuck is pretty good. 😂 That poor sales guy.

I think they can even do Memnoch for a season, but it would mostly be their version of it and starting from scratch with their idea of heaven/hell. Sort of like Daniel and even Louis feel like original characters because they're way more developed on the show. If they brought all the characters and explored their issues with existence, grief, religious guilt etc, it could bring them together, give them some closure and be a good way to wrap it up. But again, they would just use the main premise and basically write it from scratch, but it could be pretty epic and emotional. And some books they can skip (Blackwood Farm and Blood Canticle) or maybe even combine on one season (like Merrick and TVL, in the sense that they tell Lestat's story and bring Claudia's ghost, we can have Merrick, maybe a centric episode about her, but we don't need a whole season of that). Still, whatever they do, they will have to move the plot a lot, come up with stuff from later books, original stories etc because if they do one book a season (or two seasons) it will take forever and we won't even see Louis, Armand, Daniel and/or even Lestat himself since there are so many books that only one (barely) appears or even all of them are absent. So that should help them condense it on Rolin's plan of 7 or 8 seasons. Also, I think their last season must be something big and the should go out in style. It should be about the main characters, yes, but it should be their best one and the series finale should be their peak yk. So I believe TQOTD, Memnoch (with a lot of changes go elevate the plot) or maybe even the PL trilogy (I'm still reading it, but it seems to be pretty ambitious) for their final season would be better than Lestat just switching body with Raglan? At least with how it is told on the book, that doesn't feel like last season material for me. But I feel like they get better with almost every episode and often exceed my expectations, so I trust them. Carefully tho, because I've been disappointed with nearly perfect shows before, but I do trust them more than most. Anyway, apparently I wasn't following you after all of our chat, I thought I was, I'm sorry. D: followed now. 💗
Rolin swears he's so slick! He never mentions Merrick, but it's been so obvious since S1 that IWTV is all about Merrick--from Claudia's diaries, to Louis' suicide, to the Talamasca's presence/interference. I suspect he'll keep doing what he's been doing--cherry-picking bits from the books, stretching out some, shrinking others, moving things around, recontextualizing the books in his his timeline, etc.
Like, I hope he's serious about ghost!Claudia, but that also means he's putting bits of Merrick into TVL; to make Claudia haunt Lestat instead of Louis. It's really cool & exciting.
Same with Raglan James sniffing around Loumand, not Lestat. I PRAY that Louis doesn't become Raglan's target, but I also hope Louis replaces David in TotBT, so Loustat can adventure together.
Cuz I agree--ending the IWTV series with Raglan is frikkin lame. Especially if we get Akasha before that--it would be so anticlimactic, to have THEE Mother Of All Vamps, and then some silly rogue Talamascan gallivants around with Lestat's body, and they get it back and Lestat decides he loves being a vampire, The End. 🤦♀️ Rolin MUST keep going; WAY cooler stuff happens in the later books. Let's see some aliens, AMC! 👽 Go out of this wooooorld~!
Like, (I can't believe I'm saying this) I wouldn't even be mad at AMC doing Blood Canticle; if it was Loustat investigating the Taltos, instead of Lestat & Rowan. But a lot of THAT also depends on WTF they're doing with the Mayfair Witches show. I would actually be SHOCKED if they mention that Lasher even is a Taltos. They called him a "demon" in one of the episodes/Insiders, and I was like wtf? (God, the more I think about that show, the more I wish it had never been made.) So a Mayfair crossover might never even happen, which sucks. U_U Having Loustat in Blackwood Farm could be a much-needed way of integrating Merrick Mayfair into their lives; as book!Louis' only other canonical fledgling.
But I agree that it would be a real shame if Memnoch is skipped entirely--at least SOME of that needs to be addressed on the show; it's too important.
I bet Rolin will completely flip some of these books around in all kinds of fun ways; just to screw with us; cuz he KNOWS we know what's in the books, and he likes keeping us guessing as much as possible. These hiatuses are just BRUTAL though; IDK what will happen. U_U
What AMC NEEDS to adapt is AR's Wolf Gift series, so we can get some werewolves! I LOOOOOVE those books!)
And LOLOLOL, no worries about the follow! 😂❤️

1899: 1x08: "The Key": Prometheus Roll Call
Beware: Season 1 spoilers! If you have not watched all eight episodes of 1899 season 1 on Netflix, get thee to your streaming device and watch! Then come back for a quick review with some visual aids for episode 8. =)
This will be a review of the basic layout and head count in the closing scene of the finale. We see Maura wake up in a vertical sleep pod set into the wall of a cylindrical chamber. Her hair is shorn compared to her 1899 simulation 'do and she is dressed in a grey jumpsuit of the type that we saw her and Daniel wearing in Elliot's recovered memory.
Once she steps out of her pod, she takes in her surroundings. There are 16 sarcophagi in the cylindrical chamber. They are in four groups of four against the wall, separated by sections of wall with portholes. She begins with the group that includes her own now-empty pod and examines the room from left to right, or clockwise, as viewed from the top looking down.
ROLL CALL.

Block 1 (Maura's).
Virginia Wilson
Eyk Larsen
Maura Henriette Franklin Singleton (empty)
Krester
When she recognizes Eyk (sans shock of white in his beard), she is visibly surprised, even taking a few steps backward. Understandable, as the last time she saw him, his First Mate had shut him down and told her it would be "impossible" to bring him back. Still, I have to wonder if something else might be behind her reaction. In any case, she then looks down at her left hand and considers the wedding band on her ring finger for a second or three. Why at that moment? Because Eyk is her husband? Or because she must remind herself that she is married to Daniel?
When she looks back up from the ring, she turns her gaze directly on Krester, whose face is not scarred. Could it be Krester to whom she's married? Watch those seconds again, from Maura turning from the ring to Krester. It's as if she knows whose face she will see next.

Block 2.
Tove
Olek
Ling Yi
Yuk Je
Tove's sarcophagus does not appear to be any different in shape compared to everyone else's, but it's possible that its design might accommodate a pregnant woman without any outward sign or difference. Difficult to say, which means that Tove *might* be pregnant, but is not obviously so.

Block 3.
Iben
Anker
Angel
Ramiro

Block 4.
??? (empty)
Jérome
Clémence
Lucien
2099 PROMETHEUS MATH.
There do not appear to be any doors set into the wall. Once we get an exterior view, that makes sense. The chamber is one of several cylinders attached by their "floors" to a larger wide octagonal boxy base structure, ten of which are connected to one another in an oval ring revolving around the central axis of Spaceship Prometheus. There does not appear to be any inhabitable space directly above the chamber. I think this means that the only egress from the chamber, that doesn't lead to the vacuum of space, must be set into the floor, behind/in the middle of the ring of consoles and cables in the center of the room.
When we get a side view of the spacecraft, stem to stern, we see that there are two rings of ten octagonal boxes, and each of those boxes actually appears to be two conjoined blocks, and each of those blocks has eight cylindrical sleep chambers attached, four above and four below. Let's assume all the chambers have sixteen sarcophagi. If every pod holds a person, the ship carries 2 x 10 x 2 x 8 x 16 = 5120 people in hibernation.
The 2099 Prometheus readout tells us there are 1423 passengers and 550 crew, giving a total of 1973 people. Yikes. That's less than half capacity. Have we seen this scenario before…?
CAP: We're carrying barely any freight. Just like the Prometheus. Our cabins aren't fully occupied either. The company travels this route w/o making any profit.
OLEK: The bunkers are half loaded. Two are almost empty.
CAP: Am I mad? I know this ship inside out. This is not supposed to be here.
CAP: This is impossible. We're on a ship. How does a whole landscape fit inside a ship? MAURA: This isn't the only one.
CAP: It's as if all of this is somehow part of the ship…
If there hasn't been a catastrophic malfunction or accident on the 2099 Prometheus before Maura wakes, this *does* sound similar to the state of the 1899 Prometheus and Kerberos, launched with many fewer passengers and much less freight and supplies than capacity. And how was all that supposedly empty space used? It housed the backstory worlds of the passengers and crew. Does a similar traumatic funhouse await Maura and company in "2099"? Is this one virtual as well? Or—wishing/reaching—could it possibly be Westworld-ly physical?
WHO'S MISSING?
Everything we've seen and heard so far tells me that that empty berth must have been Ciaran's. Does Ciaran wear the face of someone we've already met in the simulation? Who of the 1899 Kerberos passengers and crew Maura interacted with is conspicuously absent in this chamber?
Daniel (Is he real? =)
First Mate Sebastian
Franz
Ada
Elliot (Is he on the passenger list of the 1899 Prometheus?)
Other travelers with whom Maura did not directly interact…
Garlic Necklace (aka Furnace Mulder)
Werewolf skeptic (aka Furnace Scully)
Mustached Adam Driver Crewman
COUPLED 2099ers?
Did the 2099 Prometheus assign paired/adjacent sarcophagi for couples and family who booked together? The placement of the sleepers in Maura's chamber does seem to support the idea (for me, at least =).
Eyk is beside Maura. (Of course =)
Maura is beside Krester. (I mention it because of that post-ring-gazing look.)
Olek is beside Ling Yi.
Iben is beside Anker.
Angel is beside Ramiro.
Jerome is beside Clemence is beside Lucien. (Interrrresting…)
Mystery Sleeper (Ciaran?) is beside Jerome
Have to say, I'm a little disappointed that Franz was not asleep next to Tove. =)
Just wanted to get this info Out There in this post. Will save follow-up theorizing on the identity and whereabouts of the mystery sleeper for future posts, hopefully.
Wake up 🜃
Keep on keepin’ on~

Usually I would enjoy a rainy day, this was not one of those times. Michael and I had planned to go to the park with Krypto, but the clouds had other plans for the day. I decided to try and finish Daniel Howell’s book so I grabbed the blanket that was draped over the back of the couch and settled down with Krypto. It was finally a day I didn’t have to wear contacts so I kept my glasses on. I opened the book and began to tune the world out. After a while, I was brought back to reality by the feel of someone kissing the top of my head. “Well isn’t this a beautiful picture?” My eyes followed my fiance’s movements as he joined me on the couch, “What is?” He threw his arm around the back of the couch and was scratching Krypto’s head. “You all snuggled up and comfy with Krypto, glasses and a book in your hands. You look stunning.” I felt my cheeks heat up from his words. “Well, I have an idea that would make the picture even more beautiful.”
I had him lie on the couch so I could be on top of his chest. He took the hint and placed the blanket back over us; Krypto finding his place on the other end of the couch. Michael had put the tv on while I kept reading so his hand could find its way back to my hair to rub my head while his other arm was wrapped around me tightly. The soft noise from the tv, the little snores from the dog, and the sound of the love of my life’s heartbeat made the moment even more peaceful. “Y/N?” I picked my head up a little to look at him, “Yeah?” I responded quietly. “I love you so much.” “I love you more. Who knew thee Mr. Mayhem was such a cuddlebug?” He laughed a little, “Only for the women I’m making my wife. And correction; you’re my little cuddlebug.” I leaned up to kiss him then went back to my book.
I guess at some point I had fallen asleep because I opened my eyes when I didn’t feel the book in my hand and felt my human teddy bear move us both. I gripped onto him and mumbled “No. Stay here.” He chuckled at me being clingy, “Come on pretty girl. I’ll make dinner then we can go to bed.” He stood us both up and he went to the kitchen. I stretched my arms and checked my phone to see that Michael had posted something and tagged me. I opened the notification to see a picture from his perspective, you can see me curled up on his chest and Krypto by our feet. I looked at the caption:
realwardlow A future I’d go to war for
I smile at the image and the words beneath it. I saved the picture for myself and went to the kitchen. I came up and hugged him tightly from behind. “Yes princess?” He turned around and pulled me close. “You make rainy days sunnier.” I said looking up at him. He just leaned down and kissed me sweetly, “Anything for you.”

Soooooo ... I just finished episode 6 of ST: Picard, season 3
... and can I just say ... How can anyone not love this season so far?!
No, seriously. If folks are complaining about Picard this season, I have to question whether or not they were ever fans of Star Trek, in general, and Star Trek: TNG, specifically.
Forgive me, but this is going to have some spoilers below. So if you haven't watched episode 6 yet, please keep scrolling.
...
Is it safe to squee?
...
OK.
Seriously, folks. I fangirled so hard throughout this entire episode, you would've thought I've never experienced joy before. It was that f*cking awesome!
Oh "The Bounty," how do I love thee? Let me count the ways:
(Almost) the entire TNG band getting back together again in one episode
The first appearance of Geordi LaForge looking all distinguished and sh*t
The younguns sneaking off to try and figure a way out of this mess while the parents argue and deliberate
Riker's "We're all gonna die" line
The trip down starship memory lane including a moment for Seven to reflect on what the USS Voyager meant to her
Me immediately recognizing the Bird of Prey from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
The cameo by Daniel *motherf*ckin'* Davis as Professor Moriarty. Oh. My. God! I literally leapt out of my seat when I saw him appear on screen. That was such a beautiful gift. Michelle Forbes last week was an amazing, but bittersweet gift. But this. This was just a truly beautiful gift. Thank you to whomever made that happen.
Geordi still being a badass engineer even though he's all "play it safe Dad mode" now
The flashback to season 1 Riker for a quick recall of "Pop Goes The Weasel" which he somehow manages to recognize by the isolated keys on their own 30 years later
Brent Spiner cycling through all the "Data's" he's played over his career, and me immediately recognizing Lore before he even said his name
Amanda Plummer just killing it with the villainy. I'm here for all of it!
And that ending?!?! Oh. My. God. Come on. How are folks not loving this?!
See. I honestly don't get the folks who are complaining. I know a lot of us Trekkers are fully enjoying this, but for the ones who aren't ... Honey, I don't know what to tell you. This season has been so much more than I ever expected, and I'm in ... just ... pure bliss with this episode and this season overall.
And no. I'm not just watching this season alone. I loved Star Trek: Picard seasons 1 and 2 as well. So much so that I was sad when I heard they were only going to do one more season.
But oh boy! What a season to end it on.
I am in deep smit with this show. And just to be clear, I also love Star Trek: Discovery, Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds. I even like Prodigy, even though I've only watched about halfway through the first season.
Yes, I'm one of those Trekkers who loves Trek with my whole chest, so it was unlikely that I wouldn't relish this final season of Picard. But I never expected to love it as much as I have so far.
At this point, I'll probably cry when the season finally ends, but that's OK. Because I'll just watch it all over again to experience this joy one more time.

I really love how the last two episodes of IWTV have this sort of interchangeability between horror/tragedy and humor, and in certain moments the two overlap in the same scenes like with Lestat crying over Louis getting head from someone he knew when he was younger and obviously having had romantic feelings for. There's just SO MUCH to mine with this approach, especially when you consider that even Louis' perspective of Lestat and their relationship changed so significantly in the span of around 50 years in the first and second interview with Daniel.
Yeah, same, I think the show's tonal balance is honestly excellent. To me, it feels like real life--things can be awful but you just kinda have to laugh sometimes. I think the show is great at giving us a deeply supernatural world while keeping the relationships and their issues very grounded in reality.
I also have to call something out lol... I find that people (many of whom I assume are book fans, and the books basically shove Lestat down your throat as THEE BEST because he was Anne's favorite) are so eager to excuse Lestat's behavior that there's already a demonization of Louis occurring...?
And it's like, don't get me wrong, Louis is a flawed person who doesn't always do the right thing; and the shows already explicitly called out his unreliable narration.
However.
(Taking aside the fact that the adaptation is its own thing and you can't assume it'll follow the books beat for beat because it already has not.)
With this specific case--yeah, this was pretty much on Lestat lol. You can't tell someone "yes go fuck other people" WHILE FUCKING AROUND WITH OTHER PEOPLE YOURSELF and then get possessive and upset when they do it. I mean, you can--but like, you're in the wrong. This is a very real thing that moooost people I've known in open relationships go through (and that doesn't mean open relationships are inherently bad, but let's be real, in many cases people who are trying to be open are actually monogamous people who just need to break up or go to therapy together lol) and I think the show was drawing that parallel very deliberately to call out Lestat's toxicity. Does that mean Louis doesn't also have toxic traits? No--they're a toxic couple. They are probably the loves of one another's existence and they are toxic. They are probably meant to be together on some level, and they're toxic. If you're looking for a ship that isn't toxic, this is probably not a story for you.
And beyond this case--while I think that on some levels Louis's narration is deliberately unreliable, yes, I also think there is unconscious unreliability occurring. If you've ever left a rocky relationship, especially a long one--you will give an unreliable narration of that relationship, at times. Because it is fucking fraught. You are emotionally untangling that shit.... sometimes forever.
I would also add that for Louis, I think there's a level of not wanting to get real about how he still feels about Lestat. It is easier to cast Lestat as someone who never really loved him in this narration, because the reality is that Louis knows he did and Louis also loves Lestat--and if Louis loves Lestat, what does that make him?
I mean, I have already seen posts commenting on Louis's resentment of having to publicly act subservient to Lestat with "I know Louis is facing racism, BUT--" And let me tell you... That's where you stop and delete what you're writing, because you've already missed the point. The point is not that Louis is perfect, or that Louis is coming at Lestat fairly all the time--but the power differential in this relationship is MASSIVE. Lestat has societal privileges Louis can't have, AND Lestat is Louis's vampiric parent, essentially, while also being his lover, who knows more about the world of vampirism and immortality and just *life* by merit of having lived a century more than Louis. At the same time, Louis can have some level of existence independently, and even if he has regrets, he won't be crippled by his desire for Lestat... Whereas Lestat cannot be alone, and while I think Lestat's love for Louis is very complex and selfish, I also think that Lestat probably does love Louis more than Louis loves Lestat. Doesn't mean Louis doesn't love Lestat more than other partners he's had or will have... But I do tend to think that in many (most?) relationships, one person loves the other more, and in this one, that happens to be Lestat.
So like, I don't know. If we're already dismissing Louis's extremely valid issues and complaints to prop up Lestat.... what are we doing. This is very much a show about overlapping things, as you said--how both things can be true, how everything with these two is gray.

okay, i keep seeing you talk and post about it and i have to ask... what is eerie indiana and should i watch it? :))
what is Eerie, Indiana? Well. on a surface level Eerie Indiana is a family mystery show produced jointly by Hearst Entertainment and NBC in 1992. A show that the network was unable to properly advertise due to the 'tween' audience not yet being a thing it ended up being pit against 60 minutes (and in one case literally not even being aired at all so they could air the speech of a presidential hopeful /conspiracy theorist from jail, and another not being aired due to the network pulling it due to content, it was released by Fox in the 1998 reruns) essentially dooming it to fail. Despite this, NBC ordered a half season and a re-tooling of the show to introduce a more serialized set of storylines rather than episodic. Sadly, this wasn't enough to save the show and it was cancelled after one, single, glorious, practically perfect season in 1992, running for a mere 19 episodes.
Created by Jose Rivera and Karl Schafer (who most recently did Z Nation) the show is made up of immese talent at the very start of their career. I can't even tell you about the amount of talent on this oddball little show. Joe Dante (of Gremlins fame) directs and even acts in one episode. Bob Balaban directs some episodes, Claude Atkins plays a ghost cowboy, Anita Morris plays a sexy secret agent, Ray Walston plays an alien (i mean. duh.), René Auberjonois plays a literal devil business man named 'The Donald', Tobey Maguire (your beloved) plays a ghost who haunts Marshall and makes his family say slurs, Vincent Schiavelli plays an evil dentist, Future Scream Queen Danielle Harris plays a heart transplant recipient...The twist? The heart came from one of Marshall's best friends. and, best of all, John Astin (THEE JOHN ASTIN. GOMEZ ADDAMS) plays the mysterious owner/operator of The World 'O Stuff - the local hangout - for the final six episodes. Like the talent here is truly unreal. (did I mention John Astin?)
with a cast headed by Omri Katz (who you might know from Hocus Pocus) the plot of the show follows the adventures of Marshall Teller (Katz), his best friend/kid sidekick Simon Holmes (Justin Shenkarrow , you might know as the voice of Harold in Hey Arnold) and in the last six episodes, his homoerotic nemesis Dash X (Jason Marsden, you might know him from his many iconic voice roles - notably Max in a Goofy Movie, and also as Thackery Binx in Hocus Pocus) an alien with no memory of his past. On the surface, Eerie is a normal if slightly the Burbs esque small town, but once you look a little closer you start to see...Some cracks. A cult of housewives sealing themselves and their families in giant tupperware so they don't age. A Mayor who sends young men up to wolf mountain to ensure low taxes and they...Don't come back. A mysterious Loyal Order of Corn who...Run Things. Marshall and Simon investigate their strange hometown and are literally Just Trying to Get Through This Bestie. In one episode, Marshall goes where lost items go. In another, his friend Steve's retainer starts picking up the traitorous thoughts of the local dog population.
Eerie is a cult classic in basically every sense of the world. After you've seen it, you can see it's fingerprints all over the 'kids with bikes' genre. Stranger Things, Gravity Falls, Goosebumps (the show) all of them owe a massive debt to Eerie Indiana. The show itself is massively intertextual. It references everything from little shop of horrors, to the Howling, to the Twilight Zone to the Fly. But you don't need to have that knowledge to enjoy it, Eerie is a family show. By that I mean it was created for viewing by the whole family, not specifically teens or adults only. If you like Round the Twist (predates Eerie by 4 years), than you'll like Eerie.
in 1998 there was a controversial reboot made in Canada staring Bill Switzler and Daniel Clark. It too only lasted a season. I love TOD but many hate it. Lastly, should you watch it? YES! I recommend Eerie to everyone I know basically. It is a little dated in parts, and some of the themes are really heavy (Child abuse and neglect are very present, long running themes in many episodes - I actually agree that Broken Record should have been pulled from airing because i find the ending very upsetting) Marshall, our protagonist is a very sweet, empathetic teenage boy character who I NEVER saw on television when I was growing up in the era of the Dan Schnider mean spirited sitcom. He's sort of an asshole sometimes but hey - he's a teenager. Simon is just adorable and literally deserves the whole world. Dash X is very cool, mysterious, gay and totally unhinged. Every character on this show is written fantastically, there are no half hearted performances, everyone is selling it the entire time. I'm very fussy about television, but Eerie is a show that I think is genuinely nearly perfect. I almost am glad it was cancelled so no one had a chance to ruin it lol.
If you're interested (and I hope I've sold you) then you can buy it on youtube, basically. It was previously on Amazon Prime but isn't anymore sadly. You can pay through the nose for an expensive DVD set like I did or.....You can do the smart thing, google it and watch on like. Kisscartoon lmao. Eerie is a show I am so so passionate about so if you're interested PLEASE watch it and feel free to join in discussion here on the hellsite, or you can go to Dreamwidth (@froodlemonkey/@catschimericalcreations runs this and has a MASSIVE back catalogue of fics, art, meta, random twitter posts, scripts, even the first Eerie Fanfiction...which was published in a ZINE in the 90s! seriously if someone has ever said anything about eerie ever than Cat has catalogued it with her extensive, fantastical tagging system) or even discord but like yeah. Eerie is amazing and you should like totally watch it :)

things I wrote about Kepler once
(I already posted this as a thread on twitter but who cares. obvious note: just my opinion, would love to hear others thoughts about these things!)
1. why Kepler hates Hilbert and how that shows how much respect Kepler has for his own team
there are many reasons to hate Hilbert, alright, but the first thought that came into my mind after I thought a bit longer about this was: “oh fuck the respect he has for Maxwell huh”
Kepler only did the whole “hand in drawer” thing because Hilbert was way too lost in his own thoughts to answer Eiffel - his superior- , something we know Maxwell does all the time. Yes, Hilbert doesn’t respect his superiors, but that’s not the only reason why Kepler almost broke his hand, like I’ve said Maxwell also does this, but Kepler knows that Maxwell 100% knows what she is doing when she doesn't respond for a moment. The work she did for and with Kepler gave enough ground for trust and respect because her work is THAT good. Even Michelle (Maxwell's VA) once said: Kepler made her the boss of herself and he may be the commanding officer but he gave her a lot of autonomy [because of her excellent work]
and sure, this could have also been about Eiffel a bit because “hey, look Hilbert, if he doesn’t want to be a part of this, then you can’t do this to him.”, but I don’t think so. It’s not about the person. It’s not about Eiffel. Forcing someone to do something without prior consent? and ESPECIALLY without the needed knowledge if and how it works? That’s something he doesn't agree with (+ he already hated Hilbert and how he works). Hilbert may be a good scientist, but a human life means literally nothing to him, so he acts sloppier than a scientist who values human life which results in a high body count. He uses more resources than needed and that’s something Kepler would never tolerate. If the results don’t match the used resources, you’re out. Him gaining sympathy and trust from Eiffel is just a bonus. I mean… they never wanted to return with the Haephestus crew to begin with, why bother saving their lives, they just need extra hands for the mission itself. The bodycount in the end matches the results. Bigger picture, right? (and that’s why I love the scene now with Hilbert at the end where he talks with Eiffel and says:“You have no reason to trust me, but please: do not make the mistake of trusting him.” (idk. I just like how this scene is caused because of a lack of trust and ends with someone telling the other one what happened is no soil to grow trust on, but moving on)
2. Kepler and Jacobis first interaction (mini-episode: things that break other things )
Just a short thing first that ties to the finale: I am thinking a lot about how Kepler went from "friend" to "Daniel" to "Jacobi" and then to "Daniel" again.
also: Kepler quotes Shakespeare literally 2 min into the first conversation with Jacobi and basically sees himself as King Lear in that part of the play and Jacobi as Kent. Kent, who comes to the king to ask to serve him, so King Lear asks Kent for his loyalty in that scene.
I actually really like the scene he chose, because it does continue with King Lear after a few lines saying: "I thank thee, fellow; thou servest me, and I'll love thee." (it's something just "randomly" thrown in until you look it up and I love little things like that)
2.1 Kepler just knows the most random shit ever wtf
besides him being able to just quote god damn Shakespeare (which Eiffel does as well tho) he also does this. how the fuck do you just know things like this?
3. He gets less impulsive in really intense situations after Maxwell's death
fr: he literally doesn’t hesitate to kill Lovelace. Yes, she wasn’t human, but no one except him knew that and tbh I’m pretty sure that he would have shot her in the head like this even if she would have been the original.
But in the finale he gives Rachel literally every opportunity to not get shot. Gabriel in a Q&A once said "Kepler decided to kill Rachel when she figures out what he has done and not before that. And even in that scene he is giving Rachel every out. " He is like “Don’t you think we could do something else?” but she is like “No. No, this is the way to go." he doesn't even shoot her in the head.
#and that's it for now#there is one bigger point that I want to throw on tumblr as a separate post tho#wolf 359#wolf359#w359#warren kepler#daniel jacobi
