Fic Stats Tag Game
(This shall get buried under all the Episode 1071 posts, which is fair and fitting).
Was tagged by @purplehairedwonder
Rules:
Give us the links to your fics with the most hits, most kudos, most comments, most bookmarks, most words, and least words.
Okay, will do, but I need to warn, my most hits, etc., are dark fics—one is very dark, and your faves are dark—so be warned before you click if you do. 18+ only.
Most hits: Interdisciplinary with 10,205 hits. Extreme Law whump with very dark, usually not dark, OP characters. But, my first fic to hit 10K (and the only one off-anon. I should stop deleting my fits in after-uploading panics, though :D). (Rated E)
Most kudos: One shot: Dark like the North Blue Sea (aka The Sea-Hill you Die On) . Heart Pirates wind up Usopp in the same way that Law does (whilst on the way to Wano). Wow, that's surpassed my multi-fic, Repossession, which was the most popular for a long while (also one I deleted at one stage though, and uploaded backdated. Ahh).
Anyway, 218 kudos to 1,570 hits. Gen-rated Madness. Not complaining!
Most Comment threads: Another dark multi-chaptered work. I had one very dedicated reader on this fic. Much thanks to her. Not many other people actually commented, but A few drops of holy cuckold with 50 comment threads. There are 48 chapters, so approx a comment per chapter, and I know that's a blessing! I'm very grateful. (G-Rated)
Most bookmarks: Repossession, another dark Law whump fic, 80 bookmarks (more than half aren't public, I think). (E-raterd)
Most words: Shamefully (cos so often a long word count's an indication of not being able find the right finishing spot for a fic, and a sign of not enough editing, but in fanfiction about a series, maybe it's inevitable, but anyway!) A few drops of holy cuckold at 150,972 words. (E-rated)
Fewest words: Well, I have a number of pure drabbles, but they're part of drabble collections, so I guess the work is not stand alone, necessarily (if we're looking at the AO3 stats page), so let's go with protect (338 words), a ficlet about Rebecca written for the Women Wanted Zine (OP Women) as part of some zine challenges. There was maybe a 400 word count challenge on that.
tagging @ayusaurus , @gendervapor14 , @devircy if you feel like doing it, and I just want to remind everyone that stats, etc. are totally relative and dependent upon so many elements. Also, anyone else who'd like to try! I'm gonna make one for one shots, cos even though I have one one shot in the list, multi-chaps will usually come out ahead in this kind of thing.

My One Piece theories
SPOILER WARNINGS FOR WANO and maybe more. I've reached episode 1056, and a friend told me to toss out my weird theories before I get as far as the "Huge episode"  1071. I've been right about a few things allready. So, Let's toss out the rest!
Makino was pregnant with Shanks. Not really a new or revolutionary theory. But anyhow!
Blackblackbeard is three people. In some way or form. Triplets? Split Personality? Oda has drawn him with 3 different noses, they reffered to him as "They" and his flag has 3 faces. An old a fun theory!
Shanks is a celestial dragon decent, og otherkin decent.
Is the origin of Devil fruit is on Laugh Tale? Shanks and his Crew knows they can't have devil fruit powers to get there.
I think most, if not the entirety of One Pieces plot is about freedom and imagination. Based on Odas obsession with animation, cartoons, and pirates, things are allready like taken straight out of Looney Tunes, and I'm certain it's just gonna get loonier as the closer we get to the end. As someone who grew up a fan of Looney Tunes, it's clear as day he took inspiration from the genre. Laugh Tale? The Entirety of One Piece is one big Laugh Tale. Oda doesn't want to do a single thing if it's not fun and make people smile. Luffy has been the representation of freedom, imagination and WILL since the beginning. Which brings me to my next theory,
Luffy doesn't have a gummy fruit. Details about Joyboy; Luffy has been a walking reincarnation of Freedom, imagination and loony shenanigans, and is the real representation for "You can do Anything and Everything you set your mind to." Only your own mind and fantasy is your limit! These things was what made me idolize him to begin with, growing up with him. Oda want him to make us smile. Since I first saw luffy, I always thought what if his fruit is about being a cartoon, who is freer that a cartoon?! And Since he bends away from damage like Buggs Bunny, and so forth. I couldn't believe such a heavy guarded fruit was a rubber fruit. JoyBoy; When I heard the name, I was in Awe! My sister grew up on Jamaica. And joyboy is a smaller carribian god for well, Joy! Who spreads laughter and joy to the beat of the drums. I believe the Joyboy before Luffy had the "gumgum fruit" aswell. - And I just got to Jimbei's fight against Who's-Who and went back to add details to this part! Boy do I now know that Luffy/ The gumgum fruit has the power of Sun God Nika. He practically Said Joyboy!! Inbefore luffy gets set on fire and turns into a dancing god.
Enies lobby needs to or will be plugged. The Swirls rule the planet, it's in everything we see. Just like the real world, with the golden spiral. We see it everywhere in nature, and some people say it's the key to the universe. Is it the key to One Piece? When I saw Enies Lobby I thought "That drain needs to be plugged". What happens if we plug it? Where does it go? Maybe if we plug it, all water will be raised up to the Red Line. And This theory goes hand in hand with;
The boat that Joyboy left with the fishmen is a Noas Ark. I believed for the longest time that they will plug enies lobby, fill the Noas Ark left by Joyboy and take all the people up to the Red Line for a Full Out War. OR, They use it to save the People, and the Pirates go to war on Marie Jois, now that the waterlevel can reach it. I'm guessing Joyboy knew alot in the void centuary, and made the boat for when the day would finally come when they needed to save everyone from the water. Water 7 comes to mind.
The 100 year void centuary was spend making the Red Line And that we are on a journey to make the world into One Piece again. Remove the Red Line, that they built to controll the world. They are currently building Another Line, so. Again with the spirals. The Golden Spirals. Spirals everywhere. In the eyebrows, the fruits, everywhere! Oda himself said it, if the earth stops there will be tidalwaves. Is this significant for what will happens if they remove the Red Line, or plugg Enies Lobby? Or how it was Before the Red Line?
The Egg on Rogers ship is a Dragon. An older theory was that The egg could be the one piece. The one piece is a dragon and whoever controls it will gain a powerful weapon. This was debunked, since Roger left Laugh Tale with the Egg. My theory is that the egg is a Dragon, and it is Uranus, the ancient weapon. I also had a theory that the middle name D stands for Dragon. So that those blessed with the will of D can controll dragons. But Monkey D. Dragon, Monkey Dragon Dragon? Sound a little too dumb to me. But Maybe. But Luffy understands the sea kings, just like Roger, and that could mean he can understand beasts/dragons.
And what is the One Piece? I've speculated a 1000 times like everyone else, is it the entry mountain to the Grand Line, is it A mirror of the truth, or Freedom perhaps? Oda promised it wouldn't be the journey along the way and the friends you made. But I belive it is Funny. Laugh Tale- They Laughed. I believe it is funny and dumb. Just like everything else!

*swings in on a vine like a monkey* fUkcnngg ugghh, can have a kids meal dad please mighty kids meal.
Warnings: None, but definitely kinda crackyRating: GWord count: 1071Pairing: TF2 Medic x ReaderSummary: Reader assisted Medic patching up the team and needs a break
Every inch of you was sore, not from having gone out with the other mercs, but because you’d just spent the last twelve hours helping the Medic stitch up various limbs and torsos. There were still spots dancing in front of your eyes from the too-bright lighting and red. So much red….
“Why are we here?”
His tone implied that you had dragged him to some back alley dive bar with syphilitic strippers languidly swinging from a pole. Not a McDonald’s that, to be fair, could have been featured in a Twilight Zone episode. The employee dully provided their name and waited for your order.
“Because I’m hungry.” You finally replied, fidgeting slightly before meeting the person’s gaze. “I need a mighty kids meal, please.”
“Double cheeseburger or 6 piece nugget?” They droned automatically, and you felt a flicker of guilt showing up at four am.
“6 piece please.”
“Schatz… why are you-” Medic started to ask, with an expression somewhere between amused and irritated.
“For a boy or girl?”
“Me!”
For the first time since you came in, the employee seemed to show flickers of life, a smile tugging at their lips. Tapping the order in, they handed you a cup, and for good measure also slid a milk across the counter with a wink.
“Rough day?” They asked, for all the world suddenly giving the air of bartender ready to play confidant.
“Very.” You agreed, eyeing the milk before handing it to Medic who had apparently been struck dumb.
“That is a lot of blood, you okay?”
Letting out an inquisitive noise, you looked down and saw the bloodstains that spattered you from neck to knees. Oh… Hazily you could recall finishing up the Soldier’s bandages, and half wanting to just collapse. But a small part of you wanted a reward, more than the baring of Medic’s teeth and his very loud praising. Something small, simple, cheap.
“He’s a field medic and I helped today.”
“Ah.”
There was a moment of shared exhausted silence before the sound of a hand slapping against the heating tray made you jump, but the employee simply turned around. Their hand slid into a bin in front of the tray and pulled out a few small plastic bagged toys and expertly flicked the tabs closed with one hand while trying to hide a yawn before facing you again.
“To be honest I’ve seen a lot worse, and you don’t look hurt.” A final probe, their gaze flicking to the tall man standing at your side, then back to you with a raised eyebrow.
“Only my back.” You assured them, taking the box with a smile. “Thanks.”
“No problem.”
Carrying your treat to a booth, you slid in with a low grunt before realizing you hadn’t filled your cup. After a moment of glaring balefully at the empty container, you turned your attention instead to the box, struggling briefly before opening it and looking inside. Three toys, but you already knew that setting them aside, but underneath the rest of the box was a mix of fries and nuggets that was definitely not the standard amount.
Not bothering to count, you plucked a fry from the container as Medic slid into the booth across from you reaching out for a toy.
“Could we not have stopped by a store to purchase a toy?” He inquired, wiping salt from the plastic with his finger. “There’s something… spooky about this place.”
“It’s four in the morning. Everywhere is spooky.” Plucking one of the other toys from the table, you opened the packaging and spilled the toy onto your palm letting the instructions flutter to the table. “But these are collectibles.”
“They are not.” Holding his free hand over the floor he rubbed his thumb against his fingers to rid them of salt before peering at the toy still encased. “I am not even sure they are real things.”
Eyes rolling, you are another fry as you let the toy roll on your palm before opening the other one. It was hard to define a McDonald’s toy when it wasn’t a pop culture thing. But they were kind of cute, and sometimes dangerous. The edges may be dull but stepping on them in the middle of the night could still hurt almost as much as a lego.
Nothing on earth or under it hurt as much as stepping on a lego in the middle of the night.
“That smells like something the Engineer might make.” He commented moments later as you mindlessly munched while playing with the toys you’d gotten.
“That’s fair.”
“I can see the sun is beginning to come up.”
He wasn’t wrong, you could see the world outside through the glass instead of just your own reflection. How long had you two been sitting there? When you looked towards the counter the employee was leaning on their elbows staring into space and you couldn’t blame them.
Out of the corner of your eye, you caught Medic reaching out for the little bird-like toy and tuck it into his jacket. Before you could tease him, however, he reached into the box and pulled out a nugget, squinting at it.
“Excuse you?”
“I saw a documentary about the making of these nuggets, I do not think you should be eating them.”
“You say after I’ve eaten several already.” You grumble, scooting the box away from you clearly amusing him.
“Can we go home now?”
If it weren’t for the note of hope in his tone you might have taken offense, but any lingering adrenaline had faded from your system too.
“I had hoped to take a long shower and go to bed, but this was also… interesting.”
“Uh-huh… Are you going to keep the little bird thing?” Sliding out of the booth, you tossed the box and all into the trash by the door. “I think Archimedes would like it.”
“That is exactly what I was thinking! And would he not look precious cuddling up to it in his nest with his other odds and ends?”
He crooned about Archimedes the entire drive back to the compound, his tiredness waning in the face of his adoration of Archimedes and his many adorable habits. It wasn’t a terrible way to end the day, even if your stomach wasn’t as happy with the meal as you’d been planning on.

2018 in Review
A list of stories I’ve posted in 2018.
This list is kind of long because I posted a lot of back-logged stories this year.
The 100 fanfic:
I Found a Girl | Bellamy/Clarke | 495 words | PG | Bellamy’s been walking all night, carrying the weight of the world and the lone survivor of Factory Station. His mission to find Clarke has failed miserably. And another member of the group died on his watch. He’s not looking forward to this homecoming, but Camp Jaha has a surprise waiting for him.
Weather the Storm With You | Bellamy/Clarke | 1828 words | PG | Bellamy gets more than he bargained for during a hail storm. Like a wet, angry, sobbing Clarke in his tent.
All These Things I’ve Done | Bellamy | 398 words | PG | Picking up the pieces of your life isn’t as easy as watching them fall apart, especially when there’s no one there to help you.
Running Out of Reasons to Pretend | Bellamy/Clarke | 638 words | PG | The morning before Bellamy and Lincoln make their daring attempt to infiltrate Mt. Weather, Bellamy has a quiet moment with Clarke. He doesn’t know what to say to her anymore, but he’s tired of pretending he doesn’t care.
Every Time I Turn Around | Bellamy/Clarke | 272 words | PG | Since she came back, Clarke is always there whenever Bellamy turns around, even when he doesn’t know he needs her. Bellamy’s thoughts during his emotional conversation with Clarke in 3.13.
Friends in Low Places | Clarke & Murphy | 836 words | R: mild language | Murphy and Clarke are locked in her room in Polis, but they need to escape before the next Heda is crowned and the kill order goes into effect. Or worse. Tag for s3e07.
At the Center of the Night | Bellamy/Clarke | 2043 words | R | Sleepless nights send Bellamy and Clarke on a crash course to finally fixing their friendship. Post season 3.
Worn Around the Edges | Bellamy/Clarke | 3031 words | PG | Bellamy tries to be the friend that Clarke needs while she deals with what happened in The City of Light even if it tears apart his heart.
Follow You Down | Bellamy/Clarke | 849 words | PG-13 | There are a lot of dangers on the ground, but Bellamy found out quickly that the scariest one was Clarke Griffin. She had ways of hurting him he’d never imagined, and yet, he keeps going back for more. Like a moth to a flame in the center of hell.
Every Time We Say Goodbye | Bellamy/Clarke | 586 words | PG | Saying good-bye gets harder and harder. Bellamy hopes this one isn’t forever. Episode tag for S02e16.
Mid-Morning Interlude | Bellamy/Clarke | 1570 words | PG-13 | They’ve been on the ground a week, and Clarke has had enough of the whining. She needs a break. Too bad Bellamy can’t seem to leave her alone. Too bad she sort of likes that about him.
Always & Forever | Bellamy & Octavia | 673 words | PG | Just a little snapshot of a cold night on the Ark for young Bellamy and Octavia.
Handle With Care | Bellamy/Clarke | 886 words | PG | Set not long after s1e10 (I Am Become Death). Clarke is left to clean up the dropship on her own, but Bellamy thinks there’s something more important that she should be doing.
Forty Days to Gone | Bellamy/Clarke | 462 words | PG | Bellamy contemplates the first forty days on the ground with Clarke.
Wash Away the Pain | Bellamy/Clarke | 1272 words | PG-13 | Clarke has too much blood on her hands, but Bellamy is there to help wash it away.
End of the Line | Bellamy/Clarke | 690 words | PG-13 | An alternate scene in episode 1.07. Clarke and Bellamy disagree on how to handle the captured Lincoln. Because there’s no coming back once you cross that line.
Won’t Say I Told You So (But I Totally Did) | Bellamy/Clarke | 1780 words | PG | Things would run a lot smoother in camp if people would just get their heads out of their asses and listen to Clarke. And by “people” she means Bellamy. Takes place in the first weeks on the ground but without them ever contacting the Ark.
A Hero Without a Sunset to Ride Into | Bellamy | 608 words | PG-13 | The war may be over, but the battles never end. Bellamy contemplates the consequences of war. Post-season 2 finale.
Unstoppable | Octavia | 523 words | PG-13 | Octavia doesn’t need anyone to tell her who she is–she already knows.
Don’t Look at Me That Way | Bellamy/Clarke | 590 words | PG | Things are running smoother on the ground thanks to Clarke’s effect on Bellamy.
Us Against Everything | Bellamy/Clarke | 1539 words | PG | Canon divergent. With a brutal winter ahead, Bellamy realizes there might be more than friendship growing between him and Clarke.
Fall to Pieces | Bellamy/Clarke | 1454 words | PG | Canon divergent. After a year on the ground, Bellamy and Clarke are finally ready to confront their feelings. As long as Bellamy doesn’t break his neck first.
Meanwhile, Life Goes On | Bellamy/Clarke | 1108 words | PG | With two new graves dug, Bellamy finally realizes he’s going to need help keeping everyone alive, but first, he has to get everyone inside the walls.
I Wanna Be Your Left-Hand Man | Bellamy/Clarke | 1597 words | PG-13: missing limbs | An accident takes something from Bellamy that he can never get back, but he has Clarke to get him through.
Heaven Help Him | Bellamy & Heaven | 643 words | G |A fluffy AU of my Heaven Can’t Wait story. Bellamy gets hurt on the job, but luckily there’s someone there to kiss it and make it all better.
No Place Else I’d Rather Be | Bellamy/Clarke | 2585 words | PG-13 | When Bellamy and Clarke get stuck in the mud, it’s finally time to have a conversation that’s been brewing far too long.
Hope for the Future | Bellamy & Murphy | 470 words | PG | Four years after they lost everything, Bellamy and Murphy have a quiet moment to remember and find hope for a future that may never happen. Canon-divergent from the end of season 4. A little glimpse of what life might have been like on the ring.
Hope is a Four-Letter Word | Bellamy/Clarke | 300 words | PG | Clarke had Bellamy once upon a time and took it for granted. Now she’s paying the price. Or she could listen to Madi (and Echo) and take a chance.
Penny For Your Thoughts | Bellamy/Clarke | 545 words | G | A year after waking up light years from Earth, Bellamy and Clarke have a quiet moment and make some decisions.
Where the Green Grass Grows | Bellamy/Clarke | 1079 words | G | Three years after settling on New Earth, Bellamy and Octavia finally find themselves at ease with life and looking forward to the future.
Red vs Blue fanfic:
Burnt Toast | Wash/Carolina | 1013 words | PG | Two years ago, they shut down Project Freelancer for good, saved the people of Chorus from mutual annihilation, and stopped Hargrove from destroying more lives. Now Carolina and Wash have to figure out how to live with everything that happened and each other.
Rockets Red Glare | Blue Team | 639 words | R: language | The one where the DVD collection is a mess and Caboose thinks it’s the 4th of July.
Shut Up and Dance | York/Carolina | 1684 | PG | A mission without armor and weapons? Instead, there’s black ties and gowns. Schmoozing and dancing. Sounds like Carolina’s worst nightmare. Specifically, the dancing part. York, though, is loving every bit of it. Especially, the dancing part.
Midnight in the Garden of Our Past Lives | Wash/Carolina | 1440 words | PG-13 | It’s late, and Wash can’t sleep. But he’s not the only one. Maybe what he and Carolina really need is someone to talk them through the dark night. Cuddling also works.
Gross Family | Tucker & Junior | 292 words | PG-13: mild language | Junior visits Tucker–from Junior’s POV.
Nightlight | Wash & Caboose | 561 words | G | There are still a lot Wash has to learn about the inner workings of Blue base now that Epsilon is gone. Like Caboose’s sleeping habits.
Better Late Than Never | York/Carolina | 1007 words | PG-13 | Yet another mission shot to hell, but Carolina’s having a hard time staying mad at York. What with his flowers and awkward flirting.
Left Behind | Carolina & Tex | 607 words | PG-13 | They never come back from their last mission.
Best Service Minimum Wage Can Buy: Why Are We Here? | Simmons & Griff |453 words | R: language | I blame this post @red-vs-red but make no apologies. Welcome to BurniMart where the pay sucks and the service is even worse. In this episode, Simmons regrets all his life choices.
Attention to Detail | Epsilon and the gang | 9832 words | R: language | After their last Eleventh Hour Hail Mary mission, Grif had plopped down right among the dying enemy soldiers and said he wasn’t moving until he got some leave. He wouldn’t even budge for Sarge’s shotgun. “We’ve saved the galaxy enough times. I think we deserve a vacation.” No one could come up with a logical rebuttal for that so they headed to the nearest resort planet.
Unfair Advantage | York/Carolina | 798 words | R: language | Watching Carolina spar on any day could leave a man breathless, speechless, and probably a little brain dead from the blood rushing out of his head to other parts of his body. But watching Carolina spar against Wyoming sans armor. That’s something else entirely.
Save the Last Dance for Me | York/Carolina | 695 words | R: language | York’s not sure what to think when Carolina puts his dancing lessons to use because she looks amazing twirling across the floor. And he’s not the only one noticing. A sequel to Shut Up and Dance.
Girl Genius fanfic:
The Beginning of Again | Gil & Klaus | 1021 words | G | Eight-year-old Gil Holzfäller has made a few mistakes in his short, miserable life but none as far-reaching as getting his best friend expelled from his life.
The Distance Between Us | Gil/Tarvek/Agatha | 1003 words | PG | Gil has spent the last three years of his life fighting to save his friends, and now it’s over. They won. It’s time to settle down and enjoy the victory. Except nothing is ever that easy for Gil. Just when he was finding peace, Tarvek and Agatha throw him a curve ball. And it hurts.
Quit Pretending | Gil/Tarvek | 1071 words | PG-13 | Set sometime after Mechanicsburg is freed as everyone settles into life at Castle Heterodyne. Agatha thinks she knows how to fix Gil and Tarvek’s relationship. She’s usually right.
Blast From the Past | Gil/Tarvek | 841 words | PG | Tarvek is settling into another semester of university when he runs into someone from his past he thought he never wanted to see again. Now he’s not quite sure.
Sacrifices Better Left Undone | Gil/Tarvek | 1100 words | PG | The machine is finished. It works just as Agatha predicted. But not everything goes according to plan. Now Gil has to make a difficult decision. Too bad Tarvek is thinking the same thing
Wax in the Frosting | Gil & Bang | 980 words | PG | It’s been nearly a year since time stopped, freezing his friends in the town below, but Gil doesn’t even know what day it is. Luckily, Bangladesh Dupree has his back and a cake.

Is Nosedive a Faithful Depiction of China’s Social Credit System?
In this short and fascinating piece, Mr Xueliang Zhang (J.D. Candidate, Class of 2021, Faculty of Law, the Chinese University of Hong Kong) compares China’s social credit system with Black Mirror’s famous episode of Nosedive. He discusses similarities and differences of the two regimes. (Editted by Michelle Miao, Associate Professor, Faculty of Law, the Chinese University of Hong Kong)
Tumblr media
Xueliang Zhang
Nosedive, one of Black Mirror’s famous episodes depicts an orderly world based on a rating system, where everyone uses a mobile app to rate others’ behaviour. Everyone gets five points at the beginning. The score is boosted upon receiving a good rating and goes down upon receiving a bad rating. It is in close relation to people’s social activities, determining what type of car they can rent, whether they are invited to a wedding or have priority to medical treatment and so on[1]. China’s Social Credit System is often regarded as a real-world version of Black Mirror. For example, in Rongcheng in Shandong Province, a pilot city adopting a social credit system, every citizen is assigned 1000 points to start with. Good deeds, such as donating money or blood, returning a found wallet to its owner, will be given a good rating and by doing these deeds, citizens can earn more scores. While bad acts, such as beating one’s partner, failing to pay off their debts in a timely manner, will be given a bad rating and their scores will drop[2]. Citizens are awarded a good reputation with high scores as the ratings will be made publicly available. Also, the scores in Rongcheng’s rating system are linked to their social entitlements, such as the access to low-interest loans, eligibility to high spending and so on.
China’s social credit system and Nosedive’s rating system are not newly developed concepts. The financial credit system is their precedent, where financial institutions publish a list of low credit ratings and restrict people’s exercise of rights[3]. China’s social credit system and Nosedive’s rating system are extreme cases compared with financial rating system as they extend the idea of a standard credit check to all aspects of life. Although both systems are quite similar, there are many differences between the Rongcheng City’s credit system and the one in Nosedive. The most significant difference is that ratings in Nosedive are based on people’s subjective judgments, namely people rate the behaviour they directly get in touch with according to their feelings (similar to Uber’s or China’s take-out or courier rating system, where customers rate services they receive[4]), while under China’s social credit system, people’s behaviour is given rating by the authority, making the rating standard more objective[5]. Besides, as far as the application scope is concerned, not all regions of China apply a credit system (though it’s an official target), whereas rating system in Nosedive applies to the entire virtual world.
Yet China’s social credit system still has many problems: First, an accountability system is needed in order to make the entire regulatory process more transparent and restrict the regulator’s power[6]. For instance, people in Rongcheng donate money without knowing how it has actually been used. What if there are some corruptions? Another issue is the vague criteria of rating and that the public does not have access to the specific rating criteria. Lack of accountability system may lead to abuse of power. Second, the rectifying measures may not be scientific. For example, when a man beats his wife and he only need donate money to pay for it, then he may not be regretful. Third, a comprehensive rating system may violate the individual privacy. Indicators of all aspects of people’s life will be published. Everyone may be under scrutiny and there is a lack of privacy. Finally, most of Chinese medias have thought highly of the credit system only because the Chinese medias are officially controlled, it is hard to expect them to publish critical comments on such an officially launched scheme.
Despite these shortcomings, the credit system also has its practical function. Its original purpose is to force those who do not fulfil their obligations to rectify; for instance, those who often borrow money may have to pay off debts due to so many harsh restrictions. As a citizen, I’m not in support of the credit system as this system raises moral obligations to a level close to legal obligations, whose legitimacy has yet to be tested over time. It is also a challenge to the basic human rights of citizens through excessive intrusion into personal space. We can only make a conclusion that there remains a lot of room for improvement of China’s social credit system.

Class 1 Week 1 Assignment 1
I selected the NESARC study codebook to look for topics of interest to me. I found myself attracted to Mania or Hypomania (high mood).  I found much of the topics interesting so I included all of the questions and answers from section 5 of the NESARC codebook in my personal codebook.
As I continued to explore the codebook and began my literature review for Mania. I found a connection between the high and/low mood states of Bipolar disorder and a possible connection to gambling addiction or problems. More specifically, I would like to see if there is an association between Mania and pathological gambling (section 12, NESARC codebook) to have an impact on one’s mood.
I believe that individuals who experience manic episodes (or symptoms of mania: as identified in section 5 of the NESARC codebook) will experience pathological gambling behavior related to mood (section 12, NESARC codebook) at higher rate than those who do not experience manic episodes (or suffer from mania symptoms).
 Literature Review
Bipolar disorder and more specifically the manic phases of such have shown high rates of comorbidity with addiction and high risk behaviors. One such addition is Pathological Gambling (betting). High risk can be characterized by impulsive behaviors increasing the risk of unrestrained spending, sexual indiscretions and embarking on grand schemes (Richardson, et al.). More specifically 1 in 10 individuals with Bipolar Disorder experience a risk of developing a gambling problem.
I set my search to “manic episodes and gambling”. It was common, that due swings from Mania and Depression and the high rate of comorbidity with addiction, Bipolar Disorder was prevalent in my search results. It was interesting to find that in at least one article (Parhami, et al.) used information from the NESARC as I am. From this article, they grouped individuals into different levels of gamblers, where they still found that any level of gambler from recreational to gambling disorder were at an increased risk to develop a mood disorder (which Bipolar Disorder is).
Bipolar Disorder and Addictions: the Elephant in the Room (Stokes, et al.), is what lead me to Gambling Problems in Bipolar Disorder in the UK: Prevalence and Distribution (Jones, et al.). Both of these articles continue to point to Bipolar Disorder and its swings toward mania as high risk factor for the development of a gambling addiction.
I am interested to see through my research and data analysis if I can find similar results to those found in the journal articles in this literature review. Based on the literature I have reviewed I believe, It is clear that Mania (section 5 of the NESARC codebook) and Pathological Gambling (section 12 of the NESARC handbook) may show a positive correlation to one another.
Again, I believe that individuals who experience manic episodes (or symptoms of mania: as identified in section 5 of the NESARC codebook: specifically questions related to elation and mood) will experience pathological gambling behavior related to mood (section 12, NESARC codebook: specifically questions similarly related to elation and mood) at higher rate than those who do not experience manic episodes (or suffer from mania symptoms).
Below the References is my codebook identifying the questions from both sections of the NESARC codebook I plan on using in my analysis.

Publishing Frequency: Why (and How) We’re Changing Things Up
How often do you read the weekend posts on Content Marketing Institute the day they’re published? We can tell from traffic the answer is “sometimes” for many of you.
Before I joined the CMI editorial team in September, the same was true for me. The daily alert went to my work inbox, which I monitored on the weekend only for urgent communications. Most of the time, as valuable as the CMI articles are, they didn’t qualify as urgent.
Instead, like many of you, I reviewed them when my attention shifted back to work.
So, it should come as good news that starting this month we’ll help free up your inbox on the weekends.
Our new publishing frequency
Instead of posting to the blog every day of the week, we’re moving to a Monday through Friday schedule. Our daily alerts will continue to land in subscribers’ inboxes every weekday morning, but we’ll leave space on the weekends for you to pause and reflect.
.@CMIContent blog will leave time for readers to pause and reflect on weekends, says @Kmoutsos. Click To Tweet
Some of you might be wondering about two weekend stalwarts – the PNR: This Old Marketing podcast and the Content Strategy for Marketers newsletter.
Following the send-off episode on Dec. 11, PNR goes on hiatus. If you read A Content Marketing Love Letter, you know that CMI founder and PNR co-host Joe Pulizzi is setting off for some well-earned family time in early 2018 and “non-marketing writing projects (and other shenanigans)” thereafter.
If you subscribe to the Content Strategy for Marketing newsletter, you should have received the revamped version in your inbox today. You still got an exclusive column from Chief Strategy Advisor Robert Rose and a link to our latest content strategy article. Now, you’ll also get a digest of the other content published that week.
Doing as we say, now as we do
For years, Joe has encouraged companies to get strategic about their publishing frequency decisions.
Be strategic about the frequency of publishing your content, says @JoePulizzi. Click To Tweet
Attendees of Content Marketing World 2017 heard Jay Baer explain “how to get promoted by creating less content, not more.”  (You can read about strategic changes made subsequently to the publishing schedule at Jay’s company, Convince and Convert.)
And just a few weeks ago, in PNR Episode 207, Joe and Robert talked about the latest research from Orbit Media, which shows a decline in publishing frequency (and an increase in post length) among individual bloggers.
In the podcast, Joe points out that companies like About.com are getting great results by pulling away from publishing more and more answers (recipes for apple pie, for example). Instead, they’re curating lists of their best answers. That makes life easier for visitors. It’s easy to update and avoids the challenge of having your new content competing with your old content (a problem CMI has definitely experienced).
We’re starting to see this trend in our own research, too. CMI’s 2018 study of B2B organizations found that almost half of B2B content marketers are creating less content than they did a year ago and driving better results from it.
Almost 1/2 of B2B marketers are creating less content than 1 year ago & driving better results. @cmicontent Click To Tweet
You may be wrestling with similar questions – how much content should you produce?
Here’s how we’re approaching this latest experiment of forgoing new content on weekends.
CMI Editorial Strategy Advisor Michele Linn led the charge in asking questions about our publishing frequency – the same questions all content marketers should think about:
Are we publishing the right amount for our audience? Or are we just adding to the noise of their daily schedule?
Are we publishing the right amount for our team or are we stretching our resources too thin?
Are we getting the most impact from everything we produce?
Michele got the ball rolling by sharing lessons learned from earlier experiments and insights from key statistics with Joe and Robert, of course, but also with our editorial, website, marketing, sales, SEO, and social teams.
We carefully considered these factors:
Daily publishing’s effect on overall site traffic Organic search delivers the highest percentage of visitors on any given day. New posts account for a much smaller percentage of traffic overall. Since traffic dips dramatically on the weekend, we’re not anticipating too much of a traffic hit. Our search-optimized catalog still exists to answer questions no matter when someone is searching. And the extra time in our schedules will help us further optimize our best articles to make sure people can find them through search.
Days attracting most email signups We didn’t want to jeopardize the growth of our subscriber list, so we checked those numbers carefully. Again, weekends proved to be the lightest days for conversions. And, again, the door to becoming a subscriber is always open, whether we’ve published a fresh post that day or not. There just might be fewer people approaching the door on the weekends.
Gut check by team Although we did check the data before making this decision, there’s an element of going with our gut too. We work Monday through Friday (most of the time) just as most of you do, so the need for time to pause and reflect resonates. And we think, regardless of the effect on our traffic, most of our audience will appreciate the pause too. (Depending how this experiment turns out, we’ll thank or blame Jay Acunzo for encouraging us to trust our intuition in his inspiring keynote presentation at Content Marketing World 2017.)

What we’ll be watching
Making the change to publishing original content only Monday through Friday isn’t the end of the decision. We’ll keep an eye on email opens, click-through rates, and unsubscribes. We’ll also monitor site traffic and conversions along with search rankings and traffic volume from organic.
.@CMIContent will evaluate metrics and impact of not publishing on weekends, says @Kmoutsos. Click To Tweet
Our plan is to devote the extra hours in our week to optimizing and curating our existing posts on evergreen topics while continuing to spot trends and find the best advice on emerging topics that advance the practice of content marketing.
And, of course, we’ll be listening to your comments and feedback. Let us know what you think – and what you might do with the gift of a few more uninterrupted moments in your weekends.
