The thing is, you don’t have to have a diagnoses to make simple “unmasking” changes that make your life easier. You don’t even have to self-diagnose! You are not appropriating anyone’s culture or struggles or hijacking anyone’s movement by allowing yourself to sway in line at the grocery store or buying a weighted blanket or using study or household hacks intended for people with ADHD. If you start favoring the needs that make your brain and body unique over the arbitrary norms of society, you’ll be better off, and you’ll be expanding the norms. It’s a win/win.

Having grown up with pretty severe undiagnosed ADHD one of my core memories will always be the teacher in 6th grade that would go out of his way to humiliate students that weren't reading enough. Idk how common this was but we had AR points. Essentially a system where if you read a book you could take a quiz on it and get points if you passed, with each book being worth a different amount of points. A very short book might be 3 points, a book the size of Harry Potter might be worth 40-70. You get it

I was actually good at literacy, I had the highest literacy score in that class. But audiobooks weren't really much of a thing yet and sitting down to read a book was virtually impossible, it's something I still struggle with and thought I was stupid for. I knew how to read and was great at it, even liked the material, but physically sitting down and reading a book was close to impossible. There were kids with hundreds of AR points and I had idk, probably less than 25.

And every few weeks this asshole would have all of us line up from most points to least. He'd go through, first hyping up the front of the line saying how impressed he was. He'd tell the next few they were doing well, to keep it up. Further down tell them to pick up the pace, but god help you if you were within the last 6 or so (some of them had the same issue as me, VERY likely also something undiagnosed)

He'd spend most of this time on those last few students. Berating these 11 year olds individually and intentionally humiliating them, telling them how there are 7 year olds who read more than us. He'd say we had no future, at least nothing better than minimum wage at McDonald's. That or we'd be on the streets. He was the type to bully neurodivergent kids every chance he got and boy that was damaging.

Wasn't the first or last teacher of mine to bully and shame kids and other teachers knew he did this so they'd send them to our classroom. He'd sometimes take an entire hour (I'd counted) out of our class time just humiliating this kid or few kids sent in for things like not doing their work or causing disruptions. He'd sometimes put their sloppy unfinished work or something on the projector and make fun of it. If the kid started crying he'd tell them to suck it up or call them names. And he was actually really well liked by the students, just the ones he wasn't an abusive motherfucker to

I just need to talk about this one little moment from the Ireland AM interview yesterday. It went by so quickly, but I had several folks DMing me about it, so I thought it was worth mentioning.

It was the "we looked like a Christmas card" and "Our Christmas card" that struck me so particularly here. It would've made sense if Michael had said "The set was so beautiful that it looked like a Christmas card," but he said "we" instead. As if David was a very specific, notable part of what gave the set the atmosphere it had. And with the "our Christmas card," I wasn't even sure if Michael realized what he said, at first, but if you watch the second gif, it looks like he said it without even thinking and then caught himself a few seconds later.

So could he and David be sending out Christmas cards together? Who knows. This could certainly just be me reading too much into things, but then you have the interview from today with Michael and David talking about Aziraphale and Crowley going onto a date and immediate shifting into talking in the first person ("I"/"we"), as if they are talking about themselves, and it's just the cumulative effect of them doing this over and over that really makes you wonder...

she mentions in canon that she tends to fidget with her hands if she's not playing piano (or do the piano-playing motion in the air) so like. perfect solution <3 i always picture kiibo being clunky and tangible with all his buttons and dials or whatever, minimalist smooth tech is so lame

shuichi doesn't tend to do it but he likes watching them <3 like just glancing over while he's working at his laptop and kaede and kiibo are talking quietly about whatever they're watching on tv and kaede is Doing It and shuichi just smiles a little (and they tell him to come over and take a break so they can hold him)

sometimes I’m like yeah I worked with kids I know how kids can act and then I remember I worked with kids while I was in the literal circus and the ten year old I was closest to walked a tightrope and rode a unicycle while juggling and is maybe an outlier in ten year old behavior

I don’t know how long! My breaks can range anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks- I’m not quitting drawing though lol

I’ve just been incredibly burnt out lately and I want to give myself some space to think about and do other things so I don’t feel as pressured to make things all the time

My commissions and weekend ko-fi commissions are still entirely open though! That has not changed!
