I watched the Man In The Iron Mask (1998) the other day and honestly, i think it's my fave adaptation of the og srories after the bbc series, because it's the only one I know of that gives Aramis such a central role (not to mention he's played by Jeremy Irons, which I happen to love), and it's done so well. When I was a kid and listening to my grandma reading the book to me, this is exactly what I imagined Aramis to be, personality-wise. Calm but witty, and ready to spring into the fight. And recently, when I read 20 Years After, this is what I imagined him looking appearance-wise. So this movie was honestly just perfection for me, not to mention the music and the dialogue between the four was just so well done! I also loved John Malkovitch as Athos and Gabriel Byrne as d'Artagnan.

The only drawback for me was Porthos, because I feel like too many adaptations turn him into this foolish comic relief caricature while he's actually a very lovable and loving character, with more depth, that deserves respect!

But yeah just... Aramis was always my favourite of the four and this movie just fed me so well on that aspect.

Like, I know that the vibes of the two movies were ENTIRELY different, but I just adored the way Aramis was portrayed in the Iron Mask. Maybe I am immensely biased because "The Man in the Iron Mask" was the first movie with the Musketeers that I saw as a child, so it was a "first love" kinda thingy for Aramis (and D'artagnan too. Gabriel Byrne has ruined me with those roses fml), and it was also what then prompted me to read the books and truly cement my love for Aramis in general as a Fictional Character.

But going back to the ask, Jeremy Irons!Aramis was the only one for me until THIS HANDSOME GREMLIN HERE came along.

AND OMG YES, YES.

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AMAZING TO SEE THE OG 90s Musketeers back as their characters!! Honestly, we can never get enough of Musketeers, so COME BAAACK.

(I honestly need more Kiefer!Athos. that Blonde Bear of a man was EVERYTHING in that role).

Rewatching figure skating olympics though I shouldn’t, to soothe the daily anxiety and ugh, there’s someone competing to the music of The Man in the Iron Mask which is notoriously one of my “Everyone hates it but this is actually a brillant movie” comfort films. Also one of the musical pieces I used for one of my arguably best-crafted fanvideos, and now I miss my X-Men movie fanfiction series. Good thing I don’t have any headspace for that right now, not least because there’d be even less people interested in that project than in my LOTR stuff, and after 3 years I’m in no more mood for being widely ignored with stuff that take lots of work. So this is one of the “I’ll come back once I’m in retirement probably lol” projects. But ugh, going to rewatch that video now and remember the good times.

Fanfic Year in Review 2020

Ok I feel like this is just gonna end up being a post where I just gush about Phantoms in the Dark but like...c'mon

This is gonna get long so i've put it under the cut:

1) List of fics completed this year in the order they were finished:

Most of my stories are one shots of varying lengths, but I did actually finish quite a few so we have:

A Chance Encounter and So it Goes- both zenmaster fics for That 70s Show

Touch the Rain: I honestly forget I wrote this last year, it feels like I wrote it years ago but it's just a standard identity reveal in the heat of an argument type thing.

Ladybug Luck? What's That? The fic that really started my spiral into writing for the ML fandom, and the birth of the Bollywood Playlist series.

Post reveal, where they didn't know each other irl, Marinette sees Adrien at a Gabriel party, realises who he is, and does some property damage in the process.

our eyes speak (but on our lips is silence) At a wedding where Adrien is best man and Marinette is a guest they immediately recognise the other as their partner. Pure fluff and giddiness ensue

The Seduction of Marinette Dupain-Cheng Post reveal-Chat bets Ladybug that he can woo her as a civilian, employing good old fashioned tactics like flowers and poetry

Pink Snapshots of an Adrinette relationship. I just wanted to see if I could write an entire fic with no dialogue whatsoever, and this one got a huge surge in popularity recently so...guess I can!

Exposed Another fic where they don't know each other as civilians. When their identities are revealed in the worst possible way, Ladybug and Chat Noir hide out in a hotel room as they try to process the situation.

This Red Love My first enemies au! In which Adrien joins Hawkmoth from the beginning, but still goes to school and ends up dating Marinette. When he realises who she is, he has to re-examine everything he thought he ever wanted.

i have found someone (like a nomad finds a home) In the last one, Adrien willingly sided with Gabriel, but in this one, he is forced to after Stoneheart. Years later, he meets Marinette, who makes him feel like he isn't a monster.

Memory Chat Blanc in the aftermath when there is nothing left.

Phantoms in the Dark My biggest accomplishment last year! And the longest story I've ever written at 30k words. A historical marichat story based off my favourite poem The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. I'm currently working on the sequel.

I only bow down to worship (but I come to a stop when I see you) In which Adrien knows Marinette is Ladybug, and she knows he knows. However, he hasn't told her he's Chat Noir. This is just cute relationship stuff in the same vein as Pink

Collect your Courage, Loyalty, I'll never be the thief (to bring in hot scattered hell) Thought I'd branch out to other fandoms and landed on ATLA. This is a series (eventual zutara) where Zuko realises almost immediately post banishment that he can't follow in his father's footsteps and rebels.

Dancing Lessons Chat Noir and Ladybug decided to reveal their identities at age 20, and now Chat has chosen the venue as well. The only problem is he needs to teach Ladybug how to dance first.

Wish Ok I hurt a lot of people with this one but it's one where in the final fight, Adrien is mortally wounded and Marinette uses the miraculous to save his life, forfeiting her life in the process.Flashes back and forth between her death and how Adrien is coping in the aftermath.

2) Number of words written: 79663. I actually wanted to hit 100k by the end of the year but as those in the guild know, I spent most of December doing kitchen renovations and being pissed about my lack of free time lmao

3) Your most popular fic: Phantoms in the Dark. it has yet to surpass my all time most popular fic it's all a game of chance (they say in wonderland), but it's catching up

4) Your personal fav: Dancing Lessons I wrote this way back in July last year but only posted it in December and I just, it's so sweet I really like it with the flirty banter and just the two of them being SO CUTE

5) Your fav scene: The scene at the end of ch6 of Phantoms where Marinette and Chat talk after their kiss and realise they both are very much into each other.

6) A fic or scene that challenged you:

I am really bad at action sequences, and even though in Phantoms Adrien was out fighting people on the regular, I just sort of...glossed over them. Except for in chapter 8, where I wrote a proper duel between Chat and someone he was robbing.

What I struggled with was describing the movements, not wanting to make it too complicated whilst not having it be 'he feinted and stabbed' or something really simplistic. There was a lot of pen acting involved, but I think the end result is quite good, if I do say so myself.

7) A line of writing you’re proud of: From Phantoms (of course)

In every lifetime, in every land, we shall find each other.

8) A comment that touched you:

I love every single comment that I get, but someone left this on my musketeers fic Going Through the Motions (posted as a series on ao3 to motivate me to finish the fic but when it was done I compiled all the parts and posted it on ffnet as a oneshot lol and one of my absolute fave fics I've written-no surprise that it's historical 😅) on ffnet, which was a HUGE compliment:

"I like the way you wove dialogue from the series with your fiction. Your story gives us a more complete picture of Bonacieux and explains why Constance rejected D'Artagnan, which we did not get from the series. Your version is better. Well done!"

9) Something that inspired your writing:

I mean...I have an entire series on ao3 that is just fics inspired by bollywood songs/scenes-and those were my main inspiration for so many things. (I actually realised the other day that a scene from the movie Kalank is what inspired me to write Wonderland lmao)

10) Your proudest accomplishment (that one scene; finally finishing that one fic; posting your first fic; etc):

Honestly, just writing consistently! I graduated in 2019 and in the past, I've started and abandoned so many projects and ideas, and even the first fic I posted on ao3-it took me a year to get the second chapter up and then I only finished it because I wanted to post other stuff but didn't feel like I could until I finished that one lol.

So yeah, that, and of course, actually writing and finishing Phantoms instead of abandoning it like so many of my other ambitious projects. I'm really proud of the 30k I wrote for that story because it's the most I've ever written for a single thing

11) Do you have any writing goals for the next year?

I want to finish Forgotten Promises, and the third story in the series. I have the vague plot for that one, and know what's going in the epilogue to end the series but I just need to get there.

Oh! and see 100 ways to say I love you to the end.

1) “He couldn't have gone far, right? I mean, this is Aramis.”

From Papa Treville. Hehe, a Father’s Day oneshot for The Musketeers with some Treville appreciation ^_^ 

2) Athos woke to a pounding headache and throbbing skull, far worse than his usual hangovers. He groaned softly without opening his eyes, fighting back nausea—also unusual. What in heaven's name had he been drinking the night before?

From The Devil’s Game. Yeahhhh so I put the Musketeers through the wringer with this one... I have a thing about psychotic villains, they’re just a lot of fun, don’t judge me XD Besides, who doesn’t love kidnapped musketeers with lots of whump? 

3) It was just as well that Athos couldn't speak; watching the Spanish soldiers dragging Porthos and Aramis in, he didn't know whether he would have laughed at the absurd inevitability that they would show up, or given them both a piece of his mind for getting caught in a foolish rescue attempt.

From No Evil. Speaking of kidnapped musketeers. This was borderline crack, to be honest. Each of the three have a temporary handicap and have to work together to get out of a sticky situation, hehe ^_^ 

4) When Athos was shoved into the small basement prison, he wasn't even surprised to see Porthos, Aramis, and d'Artagnan already there, also captives; really, that said something about the state of their lives.

From Just Another Day. And this one was TOTAL crack! XD XD Once again speaking of kidnapped musketeers, only for this one they’ve had quite enough and are unimpressed with their situation XD

5) It happens exactly the way the Empty god said it would. By the time the chaos calms down long enough for Castiel to even think about being happy, he's almost forgotten to be on guard. It's been years.

From How Fierce My Love. Bittersweet, this is the last fic I did for Supernatural. It followed 14x8 and honestly I’m kinda pretending this is what happened and everyone lived happily ever after and this is how it ends. I just like to see everyone rallying to Cas’s side. And Chuck being a good guy. Oh well. 

6) Sam watched in mute horror beside Dean as Metatron leaned over and blew out the holy fire like it was made of birthday candles. Impossible… angels couldn't just put out the flames like that! And yet, Metatron had, and Sam's hunting instincts took over without second thought. Grabbing the angel blade he had stashed in his waistband, Sam lunged towards the scribe with Dean right at his side.

From Quid Pro Quo. A oneshot of total Cas whump because Metatron is a douche-nozzle and the whole prisoner exchange with Gadreel and Cas goes badly. 

7) The coffee was hot.That was one thing Sam appreciated the most about this place: the coffee was always hot. No matter how many hours he sat in the Bunker's library, poring over the old tomes of lore and knowledge, his back never ached and the coffee never needed reheating.

From Facilis Descensus Averni. This one was fun!! Supernatural but with a Shadowhunters flare, where Gabriel gets the Winchesters out of retirement (cough, in heaven, cough) and sends them to rescue Cas from Hell where he’s been on a mission (and hasn’t been home in a few days), complete with runes to give them extra abilities. 

8) Sam isn't sure what disturbs him more. Whether it's the sight of the angel Cas is fighting—the one wearing his face—or the words that they speak."Don't think you are better than me. We are the same."

From Wenn Die Engel Fallen. Pure angst following 13x22 because there was SO MUCH MORE to alt!Cas than they really spelled out. I might have cried while writing this. I am not ashamed. 

9) "Dean, please," Sam exclaimed with a disheartened sigh. "I know this sucks. I don't like it either, believe me, but until we can fix this-""No!" Dean shouted, thrashing wildly with both hands cuffed together to fend him off. "Get away from me!"

From Psychosis. Because have I mentioned that I love creepy psychotic villains??? A psychological thriller where Dean just has a really bad time XD

10) Castiel yanked and fought against the merciless hands forcing him along. Though one of the demons had taken his angel blade, the warrior was hardly defenseless without it. 

From Bedtime Story. More whump and kidnapped boys, I seem to have a type when it comes to fics XD Also a Megstiel fic, which I enjoyed way more than I expected!! ^_^

Dearest Nemo, please tell me all about the Bonfires of France (what an amazing title) 💕

Hello hello there, dearest Susie!!! <3 I am so happy to find your question here in my ask!! <3

so, in regards to "The Bonfires of France".

"The Bonfires of France" is an idea I had back in March of this year (gods already 9 months? Time flies so fast).

It's about a story that take place in the years between 1620 and 1640 in France, around the time when our beloved Musketeers were around having all their adventures, and it follows the shenanigans of Isabeau and Quentin De La Serre, (originally Gabrielle and Antoine, before I decided to drop those names) , siblings that belonged to the Templar Family of the De La Serre and decided to run off before their induction, because neither wanted anything to do with what their family was up to and neither of them wanted to marry the people that had been chosen for them. So, this brother and sister ended up becoming a duo of brigands whose path would cross that of Athos, Porthos, Aramis and D'Artagnan.

As you can imagine from their name, this is very much set in the Assassin's Creed world, only in a period of time that has not been explored, and like any good explorer (seriously, I could be Lara Croft, in another lifetime), I decided to take it upon myself to do so!

Also, because I love to reconnect all I do to my own other works, both Isabeau and Quentin are ancestors to someone: Isabeau is the ancestor of my own Antoine and Mathias, while Quentin is Elise's ancestor!

Also, just for the sake of this post, allow me to share with you the two faceclaim I decided for them.
