Disability representation aside, Oracle is a much better mantle for Barbara Gordon than Batgirl. Like, no offense to Barbara, because she can fight, but her stronger skill set is hacking and information brokering. Being Batgirl is a waste of her skills and her character.

Why Fiction Should Stop Killing Characters to Establish That Things are Serious and Should Start Giving Them Life-Long Disabilities: an Incomplete List
1). the character isn't dead. you can continue the arcs you had before!!! you can bring them to new places!!! the characters don't all have to go into mourning!!! the fans won't be upset that the character is dead!!! you can keep writing the character!!!!
2). new potential storylines. lets say your character used to have legs but now only has leg. do they get a prosthetic and if so, where from? if they don't, why not? how do the people around them react to this? how does the character themself react? how do they adapt? if there are any other disabled characters in the story, the newly disabled character and them can bond. there's so much you can do!
3). more representation. always a win

You do sometimes have to wonder about the ending where the KC dies but Areelu stays alive and spends the rest of her days in a cabin somewhere.. the how?
As in- could the rest of the party not finish her off? Would they not? Or is the implication that right after the KC jumps into the worldwound she and the rest of the companions stare at eachother for a moment before she teleports away?

i will never understand why we’re always on the first batgirl. or why babs always has to be batgirl because she’s the most “well-known” (which i’ve seen cited as a reason for babsgirl’s return in n52). dick grayson is the first and most well-known robin but he gets to grow the fuck up and move on. jason gets to be red hood. even tim sometimes gets to grow up to make room for dami!robin. but babs can never be oracle and cass/steph can never be the only/main batgirl because…? because having disabled superheroes is too far? because having more than 1-2 women in the batfamily is too much work? it’s such bullshit i can’t believe dc keeps getting away with it and people keep defending it

I hate the narrative that Barbara sacrificed her legs. She did no such thing. Barbara was a victim like any other civilian. Barbara is a living example of the horrors that is Gotham city, and she is representative of the way Gothamites to not let tragedy keep them down.

Being more familiar with Babs’s Oracle characterization the idea of Batgirl originally being a Batman love interest is kinda mind boggling. Not in the “omg she’s basically his daughter” way but in the “I don’t believe her taste could ever be that bad” kind of way. What do you mean Babs was in love with Bruce?? Miss Gordon stand up this isn’t you…

Card of the day: The Fox and Ivy (from the Woodland Wardens oracle deck by @jessicasroux).
The fox is a clever animal, able to use its wits to adapt to any situation and catch it's prey. Ivy can grow almost anywhere, under any circumstances, and adapts to its surroundings. Obviously, adaptability is the theme of today's card, and I needed it today! Thanks to an internet outage caused by an overnight storm, I had to adapt my working methods to my unfortunate situation. It was a struggle, to say the least.
However, I noticed something interesting. As long as a resisted the changes I had to make, the more frustrating everything was. But the more adaptable I was, the smoother it all went. If we embrace the obstacles in front of us and keep our minds nimble, there is nothing we can't do.
Of course, logging off a bit early and having a cup of tea doesn't hurt, either.

ive seen a couple posts about barbaras downgrade back to batgirl recently and i just need everyone to know. that it wasnt *because* of batgirl (redhead ver) having been in more adaptations/being more widely known outside of comics fans--it was *because* of didio & co. didio specifically didnt like legacy characters (silver agey mindset) and he also didnt like barbara, but in his mind, if there has to be a batgirl it had to be barbara gordon. any claims that babsgirl was more iconic or whatever was an excuse, it wasnt about sales or iconography, it was about a small group of people in charge--again. mostly didio--not valuing barbara as a character or batgirl as a title/legacy and not caring what oracle meant to people. i dont want anyone to be laboring under the misunderstanding that it was actually a thought-out business decision instead of a little bit nostalgia and a hell of a lot of spite

Today's cards.
I asked for messages from Saint Rita.
THE FOOL is saying I need to rely on my own intuition more. Don't blindly follow others.
FOX is saying I need to adapt to the changes I'm going through as best as I can.

damn I wish we'd get a pretty (and completed) anime for Pandora Hearts a la FMA: Brotherhood. I wanna suffer the story again, but I also wanna see it animated with pretty colors, ideally with Yuki Kajiura brought back to do music

Why Artificial Intelligence is Transforming Health—But Still Needs the Human Touch
Tumblr media
Yesterday’s announcement of Stargate, a groundbreaking AI collaboration between Oracle, OpenAI, and SoftBank, marks a new era for artificial intelligence. This partnership promises to revolutionize industries, including healthcare and wellness, by enhancing how AI processes and applies complex data. Yet, even with such advancements, AI still has its limitations, especially when it comes to truly holistic support for wellbeing.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has undeniably made remarkable strides in the healthcare and wellness industries. From predictive diagnostics to personalized wellness recommendations, AI has proven to be a game-changer. But as incredible as this technology is, it’s important to recognize that AI is not the ultimate solution when it comes to supporting holistic wellbeing. Why? Because while AI processes data with unmatched speed and accuracy, it lacks the intuition and emotional intelligence that human interaction brings to the table.
The Marvel of AI in Health
AI excels at crunching numbers, analyzing patterns, and offering data-driven insights. In the realm of health and wellness, this means:
Personalized Health Recommendations: AI can analyze wearable device data, dietary habits, and even genetic markers to suggest tailored fitness and nutrition plans.
Early Diagnosis: By processing medical imaging and patient histories, AI can detect conditions like cancer or cardiovascular disease earlier than traditional methods.
Behavior Tracking: AI tools can monitor your habits, from step counts to sleep quality, and provide feedback on how to improve.
These capabilities are powerful and have undoubtedly saved lives and improved health outcomes. Yet, even with all this innovation, AI remains limited by its design.
The Missing Human Element
AI can only respond to the information provided to it. Its recommendations, no matter how precise, are based solely on the data it receives. But human health and wellbeing are more than just numbers and patterns. Here’s where human interaction becomes irreplaceable:
1. Picking Up on Subtle Cues
Healthcare professionals and wellness coaches can notice the unspoken—a patient’s tone, body language, or hesitation when answering questions. These subtleties often reveal stress, fear, or even symptoms that a data point can’t capture.
2. Empathy and Emotional Support
AI can simulate empathy, but it can’t feel it. When someone is struggling with mental health or trying to make a lifestyle change, the genuine compassion of a human coach or therapist can make all the difference.
3. Adapting to Nuance
People are complex. What works for one person might not work for another, even if their data looks similar. Humans excel at adapting to these nuances, offering flexible solutions that go beyond algorithms.
Why AI Alone Can’t Balance Wellbeing
Holistic wellbeing involves multiple dimensions: physical, mental, social, spiritual, and financial. AI may be excellent at addressing specific aspects, like fitness tracking or financial planning, but it struggles to integrate them into a cohesive, individualized strategy. A balanced-life coach, for example, can help a client identify how stress at work (mental health) might be impacting their sleep (physical health) or relationships (social health)—a level of insight AI simply can’t replicate.
A Collaborative Future
The future of health and wellness doesn’t need to be a competition between AI and humans. Instead, the two can work hand in hand. Imagine this:
AI identifies trends in your health data and suggests actionable steps.
A human coach interprets these insights in the context of your life, helping you prioritize and implement changes.
Together, they create a dynamic, adaptable approach to achieving balance across all dimensions of wellbeing.
Final Thoughts
AI is a marvelous technological advancement that is reshaping health and wellness in profound ways. However, when it comes to helping individuals balance the complex dimensions of their wellbeing, AI is incomplete without the human touch. By combining the strengths of AI’s data-driven precision with the empathy and intuition of human interaction, we can create a truly holistic approach to thriving in every aspect of life.
After all, wellbeing isn’t just about numbers—it’s about being understood, supported, and inspired. And that’s something only a human connection can provide.
