5 Songs I'm Into Right Now
tagged by @zylphiacrowley , thanks!
It's gonna be tough picking only 5 songs haha, but I'll try to choose some from different artists/sources. Otherwise it'll just be 5 songs from a same game or something ( ̄▽ ̄)"
Eden - Deep Eclipse
youtube
Enstars song was to be expected - I would not be playing rhythm game after a year if I didn't like the songs. Picking one was really hard tho! Every group has at least one song I like.... Choosing between Majestic Magic, Artistic Partisan and this was so hard :/ Went with this since it's been stuck in my head for half a day lol.
CHANGGWI (Singyeo cover)
youtube
Okay I kinda debated between using this or Sailing but chose this since there's something I really like about how it's sung. I do not know enough music terms to actually say anything deep about it tho ^^' Anyway, SIngyeo has lots of other cool covers too so I recommend checking his channel out for more.
Zen Zen Zense (Mafumafu & Soraru cover)
youtube
"I'd begun searching for you many lives before you were even born"
Go watch Kimi no Na wa. No seriously, it's a good movie. And Zen Zen Zense is it's theme song that manages to make me still feel very fuzzy and wet eyed years later. Chose the Mafumafu and Soraru cover instead of the original RADWIMPS one because it has subtitles and I really like how their voices fit the song. For anyone wanting extra brainworms to work through: lyrics of this song would make for GREAT EmetWoL (or EmetHyth or any angsty ancient x shard) ship things :3c "Or maybe I should start the whole universe again from zero? (you can't prove this song was one of the reasons Firn came to be)
Bluish Light (Arknights)
youtube
Lumen's leitmotif! Nice and calm one, with some emotional singing and a pretty catchy chorus to hum along. Stultifera Navis event had bunch of good songs, not to mention all the other songs this company churns out. I was so close to picking Mizuki's leitmotif Y1K or CC#11 main theme.
Akatsuki Records - Idola Deus -The Creator-
youtube
Rearranged Touhou music, yay! Again, debated between picking this or KILLOVE FIREPROOF, but I've lately ben really into the lyrics on this one. Esp the chorus - "Go forth and create, oh earthborn children of Adam who pray" is just a really cool line haha. And the whole theme of a deity granting people imagination to create their future too!
As for tags uhhhhhhh.... @sunnythanalan @stalwart-spirit @arinaxiv @ffxivlilmeowmeow ?
As usual, no pressure to actually do it, if I tagged someone who already did it sowwy, if you want to do it but didn't get tagged feel free to commit tag game fraud and tag me on it. We ain't cops here and I'm not saying no to hearing some songs people like.

Episode 93: How nonbinary and binary people talk - Interview with Jacq Jones
There are many ways that people perform gender, from clothing and hairstyle to how we talk or carry ourselves. When doing linguistic analysis of one aspect, such as someone's voice, it's useful to also consider the fuller picture such as what they're wearing and who they're talking with.
In this episode, your host Gretchen McCulloch gets enthusiastic about how nonbinary people talk with Jacq Jones, who's a lecturer at Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa / Massey University in Auckland, New Zealand. We talk about their research on how nonbinary and binary people make choices about how to perform gender using their voices and other variables like clothing, and later collaborating with one of their research participants to reflect on how it feels to have your personal voice and gender expression plotted on a chart. We also talk about linguistic geography, Canadian and New Zealand Englishes, and the secret plurality of R sounds in English and how you can figure out which one you have by poking yourself (gently!) with a toothpick.

Announcements:
In this month’s bonus episode we get enthusiastic about three of our favourite kinds of linguistic mixups: spoonerisms, mondegreens, and eggcorns! We talk about William Spooner, the Oxford prof from the 1800s that many spoonerisms are (falsely) attributed to, Lauren's very Australian 90s picture book of spoonerisms, the Scottish song "The Bonny Earl of Moray" which gave rise to the term mondegreen, why there are so many more mondegreens in older pop songs and folk songs than there are now, and how eggcorn is a double eggcorn (a mis-parsing of acorn, which itself is an eggcorn of oak-corn for akern).

WHAT WAS THAT THING YOU EXPLAINED TO ME AGES AGO FOR WAITING ROOM ABOUT HOW TO LISTEN TO SONGS THAT ARENT ON SPOTIFY ??? I NEED RED FLANNEL GEORGIA AND I NEED IT NOW
AKAJDFJSKFKS OK THIS IS MY FAVORITE SPOTIFY FEATURE YAY!! relying on people to have uploaded things as a podcast sucks so bad because they get taken down a lot and also it breaks up the vibe because the title and artist are always something random and the little picture is just a sunset or whatever idk IT BREAKS UP THE VIBE
so you can do this from any device, (i prefer to do it from my computer though for reasons that'll be explained later) and if you have spotify premium you'll also be able to listen to it on all devices, but first thing you're going to do is go into your account settings and turn on the local files option
Tumblr media
once you do that, it'll access any downloaded audio files you have, and you can listen to them on that device. they'll be stored in a spotify playlist named local files, similar to the liked songs one. (i would also recommend making a separate folder for the songs you want downloaded on spotify, at least on the computer, i know you can change which folder it takes from there. otherwise you might end up with random audio you downloaded for something specific in your spotify library.)
if you have premium, you can also turn on spotify on other devices, and add the song you downloaded to an actual playlist
Tumblr media
and it'll sync up on all your devices and you can download the playlist on every device. if you don't have premium though you'll either have to download it on every device or you can only listen to it on the first one you downloaded it on.
now for actually getting the song. this is really simple I tend to go straight to youtube and it's usually pretty easy to find the song I want, and then I just put the link into a youtube to mp3 converter (dodging the hot moms in my area. maybe next time ladies) and then I download it. make sure it's in the right folder and boom! I now have mitski's cover of let's get married to cry to on demand! soundcloud also works though obviously because any audio file will do, and a lot of unreleased songs get uploaded to soundcloud, and there’s a handy little download button right there and you don't need an account! great if you run into a song that isn't on youtube. totally unrelated but I have phoebe bridger's cover of iris downloaded
now. reasons I tend to do it from my computer specifically.
1. most shady websites are just easier to navigate lol. it's twice as hard to deal with pop ups when things are also rotating your phone screen around. so yeah i'd prefer to hit up the mp3 converter from my laptop
2. if you have any songs where the only video for it has an annoying intro or outro, it can be easier to edit it out. like lil nas x's cover of jolene was from the youtube channel for some fucking radio station or whatever so I had to edit that out. and my laptop's native audio file player has a trimming option, so I didn't have to download extra software like I would on my phone
3. and most importantly to me, you can make it aesthetically pleasing. when you just download the audio file it won't have an album picture and it won't have an artist name it'll only have whatever the file name is as a title, which you can change obviously but it doesn't fix the rest of it. on the computer it is so easy to download a metadata editor, and you can edit the file's metadata however you want and it'll have the little artist line and the album if you want and you can put whatever picture goes with the song but this is of course not required it just matters a lot to me personally
anyway have fun!

weird question but do you know where people can find naddpod music? i know that the albums are on spotify and individual songs are on soundcloud, but i don't know if it has everything. google hasn't been very helpful and you seemed like the best person to ask. thanks!
hello! google probably hasn't been helpful because really the only way to listen to all naddpod songs is inside of naddpod episodes. there's kind of three places where you can find songs, but not every song has been released outside of being played in episodes, in fact most of them haven't. here's a list!
The Galaderon Saga and Tales from the Crick albums are on spotify. They're also on youtube, i'm not sure abt like apple music but i'd imagine that too. They both have pretty much all of the songs from those arcs.
One Big Bed (from the end of ep100) is also there
The Reaping Season: Songs from Eldermourne is also in those places. It has I'd say a solid half to 2/3 of the songs from Eldermourne.
Then we get to stuff that's on the Patreon. (These links will only work if you have that)
There's a handful of songs that have been posted directly into the Patreon feed. Some have releases in the above albums, but a few of them don't. You can filter by music on the Patreon to see those
In the Blackthorn Hall post, specifically, there's a link to a Soundcloud playlist that has some more songs, both from later Bahumia (that got used in Eldermourne) and Eldermourne ones not on The Reaping Season
And that's it! Emily has some other music from her personal projects elsewhere (bandcamp, and spotify both under her own name and Sierra Needle), but the majority of Bahumia songs and all of Campaign 3 songs so far don't have official releases. I know she's said she wants to on occasion but it's unclear if/when she'll do that

Rebjukebox 2024 - No 1
Here's my first playlist for 2024, it's not gonna be a monthly thing, just once i have 40 tracks i like, then i will share it. So could be one or two or even three in one month and other months maybe none, this is why it's numbered. I am already close to No 2 being finished, cover done, just need to cut down to 40 tracks from the 80+ tracks in the provisional draft playlist. So could share this next week!! These playlists are great way to find new bands and artists and saves us having to post each on sepearatly.
I used to do these just through Soundcloud, but thought i might as well add it to my Spotify also. So i will add two links to the playlist and can use which ever one you prefer.
If your a solo singer or a member of a band, then follow me on my Soundcloud page here, if i like your stuff, i will follow you back, if i don't follow back then sorry but your not my thing. Whatever style of music is fine, i like many stlyes and will take a listen. You should always trust your own ears with music.
You can only follow 2,000 people on Soundcloud, so am limited. But if am following you there, i can see when you share new music, which means you could be added to one of these playlists or the main JIR playlist (one per month). What style of music is fine, i like many and will take a listen.
Enjoy and share, stay free, see you soon with No 2!!

What's the best way to listen to an audio file on Tumblr for you?
When I post a song, I always try to post the audio as a SoundCloud file because of three reasons: 1- it allows everyone to play it (you don't need a SoundCloud account nor to log in). 2- It keeps playing even when you scroll past the post until you close it yourself, so it works well because for the huge majority of my song posts I also write the translation so you need to scroll. And 3- I don't commit copyright infringement nor steal away people who would stream what was posted by the creator, which is important to me because these are all small bands/musicians who usually can't make a living from music alone.
However, many songs aren't on SoundCloud, and then I wonder what to do.
Would you consider sharing what's most comfortable for you to listen to + read a post? Or what type of audio on Tumblr are you most likely to give a try? (All of them refer to different ways of uploading the same song).
The problem with posting a song as a YouTube link is that Tumblr will stop playing it once you scroll past, so you can't listen to the song and read the lyrics or translation in the text part of my post at the same time.
The problem with Spotify links is that it requires you to have a Spotify account (I think). The good part is that you can scroll while it plays and that, if listeners liked the song, they can easily add it to their own playlists.
The problem with downloading the song and uploading it as my own audio file is that it doesn't count as a stream for the artists, and is technically a copyright infringement. It's not like many people interact with my music posts anyway, but with small artists I would prefer if it counted, though I hope posting it like this could still result in people finding a song they like and streaming it again in ways that count. The good part is that you can scroll while it plays.
The results of this poll and the tags and comments on this post will help me decide how to post in the future. Thank you very much to people who answer!

Adeline, my favorite lesbian creator, my favorite voice to hear on spotify... please. what happened that you deleted Florida Lis? and probably a few other singles :( I don't want to examine you because it's absolutely your own work & you shall do what you want with it, I just thought I'd ask. especially that my girlfriend told me a long time ago that the melody of this one song in particular reminds her of me </3 so Florida Lis will be held in my heart
Hi! I am so happy that song resonated with you guys. I'm debating on whether I'll be putting it back up or not. I wasn't ever particularly happy with it, I felt like it was missing a lot of elements and some vocals were too quiet.. unfortunately it's my least favorite song I've written.
It was written at a time when I was combating the hate comments and Lana comparisons I was getting and so I decided to make a song super similar to some of her unreleased to piss people off. I also felt controlled by my significant other at the time in what I could write and sing about and I cringe listening to it remembering the lyrics I had to add/change to make it about them because they couldn't handle me singing about an entirely fictional concept. Because of that, it never felt as authentic as my other music, despite the location of the song being where I grew up and many of the descriptions and lyrics sprinkled in are very personal to me.
I may put it back up as is, or I might rework it. Not sure yet. It's still available to stream on SoundCloud - here's the link :)

1D Song Fest - Info, Rules, Schedule
Tumblr media
Song Fest is back!
For round one, we had some lovely fics based on songs from One Direction’s extensive track list.
For round two, we’re going past One Direction and beyond—the sky is the limit!
It is estimated that there are over 200 million songs in the world, so the possibilities for fics are endless!
Modded by @larry-hiatus
All the info you need is below!
Rules
What are the restrictions on which songs can be picked?
The song must have lyrics. Instrumentals are pretty, but we want fics based on the words of a song!
A recording of the song must exist somewhere online. Now what do we mean by “a recording”? Basically just a link that will allow someone to listen to the song. This could be Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud, TikTok, anything, as long as it links back to an audio of the song.
The song does not have to be officially released or professionally recorded. There are plenty of awesome songs out there that never made it to air, but they’re still inspirational! These are allowed as long as there is a recording of it!
The song does not have to be full length. There are a lot of indie artists on TikTok who have teased a quick thirty seconds of a song. If that thirty seconds inspired you, you can use it as the basis for a fic.
One Direction’s and the boys’ solo songs are also allowed.
What will prompts look like?
When prompt submissions open, you can submit songs along with a specific prompt, or you can just submit a song by itself. For example, prompts may look like this:
Based off of the song Castle on the Hill by Ed Sheeran - Louis is older and has grown apart from his four best friends from childhood into his early twenties. He finds himself reminiscing on the good times, and he decides he wants to track them down and see if he can organize a reunion.
A Larry fic based off of the song Paper Rings by Taylor Swift where Harry is the song’s narrator.
A fic based off the song Treat You Better by Shawn Mendes.
You can be as creative as you would like when coming up with prompts and writing fics. You can follow the song very closely or just use part of it for inspiration. As long as the relationship to the song can be identified, you can come up with whatever you’d like!
You can write any pairing or even no pairing as long as the fic contains at least one of the five boys—Harry, Louis, Liam, Niall, and/or Zayn. Girl Direction, smut, omegaverse, polyamory, and trans characters are all allowed if you wish!
This fest is for people 18+ only. The fics will not be moderated, and any content is allowed to be written as long as it is appropriately tagged on AO3.
There is no minimum or maximum word count requirement. You can write multiple fics, but please make sure you can handle the extra load. Co-writing fics is also allowed.
Your fic title does not need to include the song title or lyrics that inspired you, but it can if you want it to!
Having your fic betaed is preferred but not required.
Please only submit completed fics. If you need to drop out or you would like an extension, please send a message to let me know. I understand that things can happen.
The fest is not anonymous, so feel free to share snippets and other fun WIP posts. Tag @1dsongfest if you want me to share your post!
Communication about the fest will happen on Tumblr instead of email, so keep an eye on your messages after you sign up. You can send asks or private messages with your questions, and I will be happy to answer them for you!
Schedule
Prompt submissions open - September 6th
Prompt submissions close - End of the day September 25th
Author signups open - September 26th (will stay open throughout the fest!)
Fics due - February 25th
Fic posting starts - March 1st

The Miscellaneous Bin - Will Paquin
Welcome to another type of review I'm looking to do on this blog- the miscellaneous bin! Named after the bin in record stores where some of the more random things go, this specific type of review will be dedicated to things that aren't exactly albums. Songs that only exist as singles, EPs, and maybe even general artist reviews will be filed under this, and so I'm starting out with an artist I've liked for a little while now, Will Paquin! I'm going to be talking about 3 of his songs, Circles, In Two, and Now You Know, but I genuinely adore every song he's put out so far.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like a lot of people who listen to Will Paquin, I found him through TikTok, before I ended up deleting the app some time in 2021. The reason I included Now You Know rather than Chandelier, which was Paquin's first release after a TikTok of the initial guitar riff went viral, is because Now You Know is the song I found him through!
Immediately, the most recognizable aspect of Paquin's music, and what drew me to looking at his page just beyond the first clip I heard, is the style he plays guitar with. Starting from Samba guitar (and inspired by Baden Powell, Toquinho, and Luiz Bonfa), he uses a spiderwebby, delicate finger-picking that adds both a thrumming heartbeat and a lacy membrane to his music. Now You Know, released in February of 2021, takes a moment or two to get to that fingerpicking, and the lyrical content of the song is angry, frustrated, exploring the themes of making mistakes and having to learn the hard way. The opening lines of the song were all I heard at first, as I had managed to find the song just before its release, and I found it constantly stuck in my head, with the backdrop of that delicate, hypnotic guitar.
I've been following his music since then, though not directly through TikTok anymore, since I haven't had the app in years now. Of these three, the next to release would be Circles, in August of 2022. Circles jumps almost instantly into that familiar guitar, though unlike Now You Know's anger and frustration, Circles carries a sort of longing sadness, a feeling of searching and missing something. There's a piece somewhere that's dislodged, and it's beginning to drift away, but there's a grounding nature to the idea of someone in particular, keeping them in your mind, maybe to the point of obsession. It's a very beautiful song. I've included two of his newer tracks here because I enjoy all of his stuff but particularly enjoy the way his vocal style and musical style have developed alongside each other in the recent releases. Not mentioned in this post is his newest, Lightning, which is really incredible as well.
The last track I'll talk about in this post might be my favorite of the three, released in November of 2022, In Two. The track is more gentle than circles, almost feeling like you're being told some sort of secret. Paquin's vocals on the track are ginger, nearly whispered at times, creating a quiet, delicate bubble, as if you're being let in on something only a select few get to know. The lyrics of In Two seem to detail a somewhat codependent relationship as it begins to fall apart, especially with the chorus, "Half of me is half of you now, I'll have to cut myself in two." It's a heartbreakingly beautiful song, that feels as emotionally tender as the delivery of its lyrics.
Overall, I'd say, like I'm sure a lot of others would, that Paquin's finger-picking is one of the main things that drew me to his music, but the development of his style and his vocals, as well as his lyrical content, are the things that keep me coming back to listen again and again.
Here's some links if you'd like to check him out yourself:

just wrote a Very Salty feedback ticket and idk, i feel like posting the whole thing here too. enjoy, or something
I usually refrain from being this crass when writing feedback, but the direction tumblr seems to be heading is directly detrimental to theplatform. And the new mobile lightbox frankly ssuck, among other things.
I have been using tumblr for close to 10 years. For much of it, I did not use the mobile app — nowadays I've been using it a lot more, and while sometimes annoying and buggy, it was an okay experience. Some of the recent changes, and the much more open communication has been very nice, but some are honestly making me question whether I shouldn't just quit.
I'm on tumblr to use tumblr. If I wanted to use tiktok, I'd open the tiktok app.
The new lightbox, and the way it takes you to a random freaking post if you swipe wrong is atrocious. Sometimes it happens when I'm trying to zoom in. Sometimes when im swiping to the side and I guess it wasn't to the side enough. It's infuriating. It would be infuriating if it only took you to a random post once there is no more photos in the current one, but no — if you swipe wrong at any point bye bye whatever you were viewing, please look at this unrelated post you don't want to see! And don't tell me they are related. I don't care. They are by a random person I don't follow. I don't want an algorithm showing things in my face. Stop it.
In the light of the recent changes, if I was not already a user, I would not become one. And I don't mean it in a "oh changes bad" way, I mean that the way I discovered tumblr has been actively cut off. Back when I first discovered tumblr, sometime in 2012/13, one could view the http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/tag even without account — I scrolled on it for hours by accident. I didn't know what tumblr was, I barely spoke english. I ended up doing that a second time, just to find a specific post — it was an upload of Phoenix by Fall Out Boys, sped up by 10%. I don't know if was uploaded directly to tumblr, but I know it did not force me to go and open spotify, or soundcloud, or any third party website to actually listen to the song. It stayed on tumblr.
Then I found some blogs I liked. I stalked them for months without an account, had them bookmarked. Today tumblr automatically tries to take you to the tumblr.com/username instead of url.tumblr.com, and when it does, it obscures the page and tries to force you to sign up. I would have never gotten invested in tumblr, in the community, if that was the case. If I couldn't freely browse peoples blogs, see their pages — remember pages? Remember that functionality that is becoming obscure instead of you promoting it? People now have a single pinned post where they often have a link to something like linktree or other third party website that lets them to what *tumblr was originally for*. To have a separate about page, or a page with their ships, or interests, their fic they are hosting here, that's *not a post that you have to link* but a url.tumblr.com/about or url.tumblr.com/fic or anything they desire bc it was a BLOG they are hosting on tumblr, not just an account on a social media site.
Remember webcomics hosted on tumblr? People used to do that. As a teen I wanted to do that. But tumblr is silently moving away from that functionality. Is making it harder and harder to use it as I thought intended.
I made an account after months of using tumblr. I sent asks without an account — and after I made one, an irl friend sent me some too, before she got her account. I browsed and read and learned english *without an account*. And when I made one, I made silly pages on my blog, like "people you should follow", or info pages about my ocs, or one that still exists but cannot be accessed from mobile app at all — my about page.
I understand many of the changes. I understand the monetization, and frankly think most of it is very fun and well done. But overall? You're shooting yourself in the foot. You're alienating existing, often long time users, and making it impossible to get into tumblr for possible new ones.
I know one bitter feedback ticket probably won't to anything. But I feel like I need to say all this somewhere. I loved tumblr for so so long, I recommended it to other people — the only way right now for you to get new users other than forcing people — but I don't anymore. I'm considering getting rid of the app from my phone — going back to using tumblr once every couple weeks when I open it on desktop, because... I'm tired. I'm so so tired of seeing things I lovef about tumblr disintegrate in front of me.
Thanks to whoever has gotten this far reading this. Have a nice day.

Bandcamp is still working
Everyone,
Even though nobody actually contacted me and had a conversation about my career, I'm signed with ONErpm, a big music distributor.
I had an incident with one of my accounts, where I lost my content and the password to a scam involving Bitcoin. And I know that merely writing the word, more spams are coming (and I'm blocking every spam I see, because I assume people who have bigger accounts have third party programs that take care of this for them).
The fact that you can control who you're following but not who's following you is obviously problematic (not just from the point of view of privacy, but also and most importantly security).
That being said, I'm working to get a course I've prepared advertised on social media and also trying to find a job at a regular school.
The website that has links to the student materials and other socials is https://partfluency.online (and unfortunately, without support or paying customers, the domain will expire -- but I barely managed to set up Google Ad Sense, even though I have a considerable amount of blogging on the site).
As for my music, look up "Ivo Escobar" on Spotify and you'll find me. Follows are very appreciated. The two songs you'll find were recorded one with semi-professional tools and the other with a full studio producing where I wrote the song (as I always do), sang, played guitar and drums. I have, on the back of my brain, a want to start a band and feel the songs live. It'll have to wait, because these things cost money. If the teacher job gives me enough, that can be arranged. I'm sure I'll find people, and that won't be the main problem or a problem at all.
I want to share my latest, which is a song I wrote a few days ago and came to me particularly fast. It's just guitar and vocals. Enjoy, and if you like, leave a tip via PayPal (Bandcamp works with the platform).
Again, follows on Spotify (or Bandcamp are appreciated. You'll find links to YouTube as well, and SoundCloud (which has my first album, Transplant.
Thanks for the support, whoever you may be.

95: Lo! An undetached collection of meaning-parts!
Imagine you're in a field with someone whose language you don't speak. A rabbit scurries by. The other person says "Gavagai!" You probably assumed they meant "rabbit" but they could have meant something else, like "scurrying" or even "lo! an undetatched rabbit-part!"
In this episode, your hosts Lauren Gawne and Gretchen McCulloch get enthusiastic about how we manage to understand each other when we're learning new words, inspired by the famous "Gavagai" thought experiment from the philosopher of language VWO Quine. We talk about how children have a whole object assumption when learning language, and how linguists go about learning languages that are new to them through either translating standardized cross-linguistic wordlists known as Swadesh lists or staying monolingual and acting out concepts. We also talk about when our baseline assumptions are challenged, such as in categorizing kangaroos and wallabies by their hopping rather than their shape, and when useful folk categories, like "trees" and "fish" don't line up with evolutionary taxonomies.

Announcements: We have new Lingthusiasm merch!
Imagine you're in a field with someone whose language you don't speak. A rabbit scurries by. The other person says "Gavagai!" You probably assumed they meant "rabbit" but they could have meant something else, like "scurrying" or even "lo! an undetached rabbit-part!" Inspired by the famous Gavagai thought experiment, these items feature a running rabbit and the caption "lo, an undetached rabbit-part!" in a woodblock engraving crossed with vaporwave style in magenta, indigo, teal, cream, and black/white on shirts, scarves, and more!
"More people have been to Russia than I have" is a sentence that at first seems fine, but then gets weirder and weirder the more you read it. Inspired by these Escher sentences, we've made self-referential shirts saying "More people have read the text on this shirt than I have" (also available on tote bags, mugs, and hats), so you can wear them in old-time typewriter font and see who does a double take.
Finally, we've made a design that simply says "Ask me about linguistics" in a style that looks like a classic "Hello, my name is..." sticker, and you can put it on stickers and buttons and shirts and assorted other portable items for when you want to skip the small talk and go right to a topic you're excited about.
Also, there are lots of other designs of Lingthusiasm merch, and we love to see your photos of it! Feel free to tag us @lingthusiasm on social media so we can see it out in the world.
In this month’s bonus episode we get enthusiastic about the word "do"! We talk about the various functions of "do" as illustrated by lyrics from ABBA and other pop songs, what makes the word "do" so unique in English compared to other languages, and the drama of how "do" caught on and then almost got driven out again

I didn’t want to reblog it bc I didn’t like enough of the songs but that “honest Spotify wrapped” video was right. Like 80% of the music I listen to is mashups, covers of songs in other genres like electroswing metal or ska, acoustic or live versions that they don’t have bc they only have the studio version, black midis, normal midis, or random music I found on tumblr or soundcloud that was made by one person for fun.
I miss 8tracks when you could upload whatever you wanted into a playlist to share with people, I feel like Spotify helped kill the fanmix as something you would create and even get art for a fake cover and then link to megaupload so people could download a zip.

Unleashing the Soundscape: A Conversation with Genre-Defying Musician Parham Gharavaisi Welcome, let us dive into the world of multitalented Parham Gharavaisi, a musician who makes sounds like he blends colors - strong, surprising and completely his own, this man mixes types of music just as a crazy scientist does in an audio workshop. Parham is not like most people in the music industry. He doesn't like trends or want to be well-known. He just creates music for himself, where he pours his heart and spirit into every note. He does this even if it means being alone in a world that likes to put things into boxes. He's like a rebel with guitar, finding his own way in the music world. This might come as a surpise, but when it comes to production, Praham producedand recorded “Mirror’s Gaze" with close to zero musical instruments, but not much equipment, making his own recording and trying to understand the puzzles of music world comes with some problems he meets. Parham Gharavaisi’s songs are puzzles waiting to be solved. It's a window into his thoughts, where video game sounds mix with metal shouts and everything in between. In a recent interview with Mister Styx of Musicarenagh, Parham made lots of disclosures and we'll talk about where he gets his ideas, how he makes music and the big hopes that come with every song. When asked about his plans this is what he said “Additionally, I have two upcoming metal albums scheduled for the next two years, both professionally produced by other studios for the first time. The first album, titled Ghosts of Nations, is set for release on October 14, 2024. It's a rather grim album that addresses sensitive subjects such as societal collapse, domestic abuse, suicide, and mass shootings, among others. I hope to approach these topics in a tasteful manner. The second album, Infect the Clouds, is a concept album featuring a villain protagonist who is a disgruntled misanthrope seeking revenge on humanity. This album is scheduled for release on October 14, 2025.” Mirror’s Gaze’ is expected to be released on 24th  January so stay closed to have an experience of this. Here is a link to the official YouTube video which will go live on release day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulA2FMDRdw8 Follow Parham Gharavaisi on Twitter Spotify Soundcloud Bandcamp Youtube Telegram What is your stage name Parham Gharavaisi, same as my real name. Is there a story behind your stage name? I had to choose my full name because it was the only option still available. Every possible combination of letters from the dictionary has already been taken fifty times over by other bands. You wouldn't believe it, but even made-up words and misspelled words are already used as band names. So, the only reasonable option for me was to go with my own name, I guess. Where do you find inspiration? Mostly video games; I guess I'm a huge nerd since it's pretty much my only hobby. Growing up, I played games on the Sega Genesis, which made me fall in love with the sound of its 8-bit music. Even now, it's pretty much the same. In fact, some of my all-time favorite records are actually video game soundtracks. What was the role of music in the early years of your life? What was the role of music in the early years of your life? Well, my initial exposure to music was through video game soundtracks, which I grew up listening to. Later on, I was introduced to the metal genre, and it was an instant connection. I fell in love with the intensity, complexity, and emotional depth of metal music. This transition from the melodic and often atmospheric tunes of video games to the powerful and expressive world of metal has been a major influence in my own musical journey. Are you from a musical or artistic family? Not really, I don't think so. Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry? No one specifically inspired me; I just thought that if I'm going to make music, why not also share it on the Internet? You know, what's the harm, right? So, I just decided to put it out there.
How did you learn to sing/write/to play? You could say I'm a self-trained musician since I never really took any formal classes or lessons. I vaguely remember some piano lessons as a little kid, but I don't remember much from them, and I don't really play the piano now. My instruments are the electric guitar, electric bass, and classical guitar. Vocally, I do both clean singing and metal screams. This self-training extends to recording and production as well. In fact, I feel I've only recently begun to scratch the surface in achieving professional-sounding audio quality on my own. My single Mirror's Gaze marks a significant step up in production quality. The violin is one of my favorite instruments, and I aspire to learn how to play it one day. What was the first concert that you ever went to and who did you see perform? Actually, I've never attended any concerts or other kinds of live events. Social gatherings don't interest me at all, and I tend to avoid them unless absolutely necessary. How could you describe your music? I believe diverse is the best word to describe my music, as it spans across many different genres and subgenres. This can be both a blessing and a curse, though in my case, it's been more of the latter. It's kind of too heavy for the pop crowd, yet too soft for the metalheads, if you see what I mean. In any case, this is the sound I like the most, so I'm going to stick with it, hoping to find my niche. Describe your creative process. Here's my process for creating new songs: First, I start by composing riffs and/or chord progressions on the classical guitar, as it's more convenient for me. Once I'm happy with the results, I transpose them into whatever key sounds or plays best on the electric guitar. After finalizing the song structure, I begin the recording process, starting with the electric guitar, followed by the electric bass. Once the guitars are recorded, I add in the drums. Next, I write the lyrics and vocal melodies simultaneously and then record the vocals. The final step involves adding synth elements and atmosphere to the song. https://youtu.be/HtZj5yCQh5Q What is your main inspiration? I wholeheartedly adore the sound of old-school melodic death metal as well as gothic/doom records. To me, metal is all about authenticity and catharsis; it's about releasing a sound that truly embodies who you are, without any compromise or doubt. Ever since I was introduced to the metal genre as a young child, I've been deeply fascinated by both its aesthetics and philosophy. I knew from early on that this was the path I wanted to pursue in my own music-making. In a sense, I aspire to stand on the shoulders of the giants who have shaped this genre. With that being said, I do hope that I may contribute something new of my own as well. What musician do you admire most and why? Oh, choosing between Olivier Deriviere and Akira Yamaoka would be incredibly difficult! I absolutely adore every piece of music they've composed, so much so that picking a favorite seems impossible. While they primarily compose music for video games, and as I've mentioned, I'm a huge nerd, I'd rather talk about my favorite work from each composer. Starting with Akira Yamaoka, there's something magical about his song 'Cradle of the Forest' from the Silent Hill 4 soundtrack that's hard to articulate. It has the most haunting atmosphere I've ever encountered in music, hands down. Everything about it perfectly harmonizes with the game's themes. When you listen to this song, you can visualize the game; it's beyond impressive. The same can be said about Olivier Deriviere's 'An End for a Prelude' from the Alone in the Dark (2008) soundtrack. The Bulgarian choir vocals are spine-tingling, and the orchestral background is simply out of this world. However, if I had to choose my all-time favorite soundtrack, it would be Hideyuki Fukasawa's work on the Chaos Legion Soundtrack. Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career?
Absolutely! My debut was an instrumental post-rock album, featuring no drums or vocals. The albums that followed were a mix of rock and metal. It wasn't until my 5th full-length album that I fully transitioned into metal. As for the subgenres, that's a long story for another day. Who do you see as your main competitor? I'm not particularly well-versed in the music industry or other artists, so I can't say for sure. However, if I were to hazard a guess, I'd say it would likely be another artist who experiments with blending various genres and subgenres together. What are your interests outside of music? Video games are undoubtedly my biggest, if not my only, hobby. These days, I'm mostly into competitive first-person shooters, and I take my ranking on the leaderboards very seriously, always striving to compete against the best. Mobile games have significantly evolved, so I spend a lot of my gaming time on mobile shooters, though I was primarily a PC gamer in the past. For instance, I've been playing Counter-Strike 1.6 since its early days. However, when it comes to story-driven games, I'm a huge fan of Action RPGs, particularly the soulslike genre, as I love overcoming meaningful challenges. If it wasn't a music career, what would you be doing? My alternative interest would be either video game development, which I have some experience in, or writing. Speaking of which, I recently authored my first anthology book. It's a collection of my older short stories, poems, and previously unreleased lyrics. You can find it on Google Books. What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music? Right, I can actually think of a couple of examples off the top of my head! As you might know, I operate from what you could technically call a home studio, but in reality, it's quite basic. My only physical instruments are an electric bass and an electric guitar, which I used to plug directly into my PC's motherboard line-in jack with an adapter. It's only recently that I've acquired an audio interface to use with my new microphone. Frankly, I was quite surprised to realize that it didn't make much of a difference, if any, in terms of instrument signal quality. However, I needed it to connect my dynamic mic, so there's that. The point is, I have practically no physical gear, and everything you hear is the result of computer software magic. The fact that it's now possible to make this kind of music without going to an actual studio filled with tons of colossal gear is a testament to how far technology has advanced. Impressive, isn't it? One can only imagine where technology might go in the future. Honestly, it's kind of frightening, I guess. The fear of the unknown and all, but I digress. If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be? I'm not sure, maybe add more kittens to the music industry or something, because I love animals. Like I said, I'm not deeply involved with the music industry, nor do I know much about it. So, it's really hard for me to say what I'd change when I'm not fully aware of all the ins and outs. You see what I mean? Why did you choose this as the title of this project? I've always been fascinated by mirror metaphors in literature, so it felt natural to incorporate what I like into my work. The primary reason I chose Mirror's Gaze as the title for this single was because I couldn't find any other artist using this exact title, at least not from what I could find on search engines. https://open.spotify.com/artist/4QqBOZOiit5hIBwW6Bs9G7 What are your plans for the coming months? My ongoing plan is to release a new song every first Friday of each month. Additionally, I have two upcoming metal albums scheduled for the next two years, both professionally produced by other studios for the first time.
This album is scheduled for release on October 14, 2025. The tracklisting and lyrics for both albums are available online now. Do you have any artistic collaboration plans" I don't have any specific collaboration plans of my own, unless it involves working with my friends and associates. However, I am open to receiving collaboration offers and will consider each proposal on a case-by-case basis. What message would you like to give to your fans? Be kind to animals. Peace!- What was the role of music in the early years of your life? Well, my initial exposure to music was through video game soundtracks, which I grew up listening to. Later on, I was introduced to the metal genre, and it was an instant connection. I fell in love with the intensity, complexity, and emotional depth of metal music.
