We are pro-endo and pro-tulpa, anti-psych and anti-phys, pro-mad-liberation and cripplepunk inclusionists and coined unitypunk. We are kff safe and do not believe ANY identity that someone genuinely identifies as, that is not specifically based on intentional harm to others, can be inherently or ontologically harmful. We are proship/profic and ourselves are survivors of a specific kind of SA that cannot be directly spoken about here. We are also anti-forced-recovery and don't believe in consensus reality.

We also do not believe it is okay to make fun of reality shifters just because it's the current acceptable target, and find it especially hypocritical coming from otherkin. Even if it was always harmful, the appropriate response would be genuine, non-patronizing concern, offering resources, and then backing the fuck off if people can't or won't "recover". That being said, most "anti" sentiment in this context is heavily sanist and centered around the idea of a "correct" consensus reality. Not trusting people to be right about their own subjective experiences is both sanist and just generally an asshole move.

We believe transandrophobia exists, that everyone can be affected by transmisogyny and that TMA/TME labels are reductive and often bioessentialist and intersexist in usage, and that exorsexism and the above are all serious issues both within the trans community and in society as a whole. We support transunity. We also are pro-complicated and conflicting labels, such as mspec lesbian/gay, straight lesbian/gay, transmasc lesbians, and lesgay/lesboy/turigirl labels.

We are transhumanist and support bodily autonomy and good faith identity with NO. EXCLUSIONS. If you think this doesn't apply to you, I promise it still probably actually does. We do our best to judge people on their actions, not their thoughts, feelings, or anything else that occurs internally. We also don't believe any body modifications or exercise of personal bodily autonomy is wrong.

We also believe it's not wrong to be unhealthy, to refuse or be unable to recover, and that healthism is ableism. Disabled people (including neurodivergent people) are the most reliable authority on their own experiences. Also, if someone says they were called a slur, you should believe them, and they have a right to reclaim it regardless of if you think they have the "right" identity (outside of perhaps racial/ethnic slurs, which I feel is not our place to comment on). Slur, label, and flag discourse is all bullshit cop behavior and y'all need to stop it.

Hello and Welcome!

Hello! My name is Rowan. This is my blog dedicated to anthropological research on the alterhuman community. As this is intended to be a pinned introduction post, it will be a bit long. For that reason, most of the post is under a readmore, excepting the current surveys list.

A bit about me:

I am a cultural anthropologist and folklorist by training. I hold a master's degree in cultural anthropology.

I am the host of a plural system.

I have been a part of the alterhuman community since 2007, though I was inactive for several years. I identify as therian, otherkin, and otherkith.

A bit about my research:

I am only just beginning to research the alterhuman community from an academic perspective.

Because of the lack of consolidated data on the community, I am following the lead of several other researchers in running community surveys.

I am researching with an eye towards scholarly publication. My objective is to provide a resource for those both inside and outside the community who seek in good faith to understand us.

Who is welcome here:

The short answer is everyone. Because this blog was created for the express purpose of conducting research, I do not have any rules about who can or cannot follow or interact with this blog. I don't believe access to information should be gatekept and I believe that all folks who are part of a community should be seen.

There are, however, some things to know about me before you follow this blog.

I support all good faith alterhuman identities. This includes otherkin of all stripes, therians, nonhumans, transspecies folks, endels, fictionkin, factkin, otherhearts/otherkith, otherlinkers, and plural systems, as well as any others I've not listed. And there would always be others, no matter how long this list got.

I support systems of all origins. The brain is incredibly complex and it is not my place to tell anyone else what is happening in their own head. Besides which, not all plural folks even believe their systems to be psychological in origin. It is not my place to gatekeep their experiences. This blog is therefore endo and willo safe.

I will block those who target the alterhuman community. If you are here looking for beings to harass or attack, I will block you for my own safety and the safety of the communities I work with.

This blog is largely apolitical. While I as an individual do have very strongly held political views, I do not believe my personal politics should impact my research. (This point is why I'm not running this from my personal Tumblr.)

That said, I am opposed to ideologies that promote harm. This would include the typical things like racism, sexism, transphobia, and antisemitism, but also things such as being pro-contact for nonconsensual paraphilias. This is not an exhaustive list. I am also, for the same reason, against harassment. Harassing me or anyone else on this blog is a surefire way to get yourself blocked.

Ways to interact:

Surveys! I will be running surveys on the community. If you are over the age of majority for your country (18, if you're in the US), I strongly encourage you to participate in those. Feel free to share them, too! Here on Tumblr as well as on other sites.

Questions. I welcome these. And unlike surveys, the results of which are intended to eventually be synthesized into published articles, there is not an age requirement for this. If you have a question about an alterhuman topic, please feel free to ask. I will do my best to either answer it or suggest where to find the information you're looking for. I am also more than happy to answer questions about anthropology and folklore. The problem there may be getting me to shut up, as these are topics I love discussing. And you're welcome to ask me questions about my own alterhuman identities or non-alterhuman research. Please do understand, though, that I may decline to answer these types of questions if I feel they may pose a threat to my safety.

Introduction Post

Hello there, my fellow peeps/creatures. My name is Seb/Cosmo/Mars/Newt. 

I made this blog, because I want to get my thoughts out there, be a part of my communities, and just for fun.  

DNI if you are: homophobic, transphobic, queerphobic, acephobic, arophobic, racist, sexist, ableist (against ALL parts of the neurodivergent and mentally ill and disabled community, nothing and no one is excluded), TERF, LGB without the T, nsfw, are against self-diagnosis, are against alterhumans, nonhumans, and otherkin, anti reality shifters, or are just a total jackass. Or I will block. 

Identity And Orientation: I am a genderfluid genderflux non-binary guy. Ask me what I’m feeling like at the moment. I am aroace (aromantic and myrsexual [neuroasexual, nebulasexual, and merosexual]), and have several other attraction labels along side of it; homoalterous, panexteramo, omniqueerplatonic (the way I define the queerplatonic relationship is based on the gender of the person), panaesthetic, and pansensual. And I am ambiamorous (comfortable with both monogamous and polyamorous relationships) and I do not have a preference. 

Pronouns And Terms: I use he/it/xe/they pronouns. I like masculine, neutral, thing, and fae terms (i.e. boy, person, that, a fae). Ask me which one I’m preferring at the moment.

Books/Movies/Series I Love/Enjoy: Wings Of Fire, Six Of Crows, Fourth Wing, How To Train Your Dragon, The Hobbit, The Lord Of The Rings, Harry Potter, Twilight, Wrinkle In Time, and Every Day. 

Hobbies (that I barely do anymore, but I still count them as my hobbies): Writing, reading, drawing, and painting. 

Mental Illnesses/Neurodivergency: All self-diagnosed anxiety, depression, social anxiety, OCD, probably selective mutism, probably PMDD or PME, and some other fun stuff that I’m still not sure about/am still researching. 

Fun/Random Facts: 

I’m in a long distance relationship with @sunlikeghoul. He is the love of my life, and my bestest friend. I love him so much. 

I’m otherhearted, with a fictionhearttype and a dragonhearttype.

Dragons are my absolute favorite ever. 

I am obsessed with psychology and neurodiversity (a little too much). 

I enjoy Greek mythology (I researched it heavily for a few days and I now know way too much). 

I am a wolfstar shipper and Jegulus shipper. 

I totally believe that Qibli, Moon, and Winter should’ve ended up in a polyamorous relationship. Or at least, that Winter and Qibli would get over Moon, and confess their undying love for each other. 

I am agnostic, but totally respect (and am very curious and interested in) all religions!

I’m a minor. 

I make bracelets and rings (usually just for my partner and I). 

I have one sibling, @belles17, they are the coolest ever. Love her lots.

I’m a very lazy reality shifter. I try to shift when I feel like it. I have a million DR scripts, some half-finished, some fully finished. (If anybody wants to see em, just let me know.)

I reblog a lot of stuff, and post my random thoughts and experiences, and occasionally art, as well as some sprinkle of other random stuff. You will see a lot of queer and neurodivergent stuff, though, that’s for sure. And I will sometimes post stuff dedicated to my partner.

I love and care about my mutuals and those I follow dearly, even though I do not know all of them personally or very well. This is a safe place for you mutuals (and even you anons!) to talk about things, whether that be experiences, struggles, or otherwise! 

This is a silly, goofy, and “cringe” safe place, where we can simply be ourselves with absolutely no judgment whatsoever. 

I don’t mind following blogs and having mutuals with blogs that contain NSFW stuff, but do not send me an ask that is specifically NSFW, or I will block.

Would anyone be interested in a discord server for Star Wars fictives, Force-users, and other such alterhumans/etc? It would be open to anyone even slightly sourced or influenced by Star Wars media and would be inclusive to all otherkin/fictionkin, all systems/plurals, otherhearted/otherlink/copinglink, fictionflickers, and any others. There would be source & memories chats, chats for different kinds of alterhumans, spirituality/metaphysics chats, places for art, infodumping, positivity, venting, and lots of other areas to hang out! It would also be safe for all fictionsourced peoples, regardless of sourceself.

I'd like to second whoever sent this ask, and also add on some of my own experiences because why not.

I do not have a psychotic disorder, but I do come from a fandom where the characters have little to no canon traits (that fandom being Vocaloid), so the fandom is all I and other Vocaloids have to rely on for who we are, and as a character who's basically been the fandom's dedicated punching-bag since I was first released in 2016, it is... not fun, to say the least.

Like the other ask said, that shit gets to your head! As I've said in a previous ask, constantly being seen as an annoying jackass meme kid has really taken a toll on me, especially since I've also been bullied a lot irl. Don't get me wrong, I like memes, and I am a bit of a scoundrel, a jokester, perhaps even a rascal or a menace, but these people take it wayyy too far. Even if it wasn't for the fact that that's the closest thing to a canon portrayal I have, it's still extremely insulting, and some of the things people have used that to justify doing to me are fucking terrifying. The reason why I post anonymously here in the first place is because I don't feel safe around my own fans.

Granted, I'm only a hearttype and not a kin (in fact, I don't actually *have* any kins; I'm pretty sure they're all just hearttypes), and I feel like my character's a pretty unique case, but this can apply to pretty much anyone who's the butt of the joke in their fandom. Separating your experiences from fandom can be hard if even your own fans mock you endlessly.

...Then again, I could just be misinterpreting this entire thing, and the stuff I'm saying is completely irrelevant to everything. Oh well, I feel like it's worth saying anyway. Clown man out.

Hey, I have a bit of a weird question: where should I look to find out more about kinning? It strikes me as odd, but I don’t want to write it off as such until I understand it. Thanks!

Hey! This is a great question, and I'm glad you felt safe enough to ask me. So, there's a bit of a controversy you've touched on here - typically, using the shortened word 'kin' (short for otherkin/d) like a verb ("I'm kinning", "I kin X") is associated with a group called KFF, or kin-for-fun. They have their own stuff going on and I won't get into it here since you're new to the community, but you're doubtlessly gonna run into it other places, too... and I'm not really the best source for it, since I try to ignore the discourse.

Assuming by 'kinning' you mean 'being otherkin', there are many sources out there! Just here on tumblr you'll find some great blogs like @aestherians who post regularly. There's me, of course, if you have any specific follow-up questions, but I haven't gotten around to writing many articles yet. I know there's some forums hosted on other platforms, but I don't frequent them much. I can also suggest discord serves like TAS, the Alterhuman Sanctuary, to have an open space to ask questions from the average person with otherkintypes.

Other words you might find relevant to look into can be alterhumanity, fictionkin, therian, otherhearted, etc. There's a bunch of stuff out there on this sort of thing, just practice the regular "reading facts on the internet" stuff and stay mindful of your, and their, sources.

I tend to make my struggles into an "aesthetic" or "romanticized" image as a coping mechanism. I do not view others struggles this way and will cheer you on from the sidelines when you attempt recovery. I have a distorted image of my struggles I built up myself because it's easier to deal with when you think it's pretty.
