The most common question we get about Into the Deep/En Lo Profundo: how do we pressurize the exhibits? Simply put, we don’t!

The technology doesn’t yet exist to provide large viewing windows for a pressurized tank. Instead, we feature deep-sea animals that also do well in the lower pressure of surface waters. Our midwater gallery, for example, almost exclusively focuses on jellies. That’s because gelatinous animals, like this chandelier jelly, are mostly made of water, and are constantly at a hydrostatic equilibrium with the environment around them, regardless of depth.

Very cool and not heartbreaking at all for the PJO show to emphasize that Percy is an outsider not only because he's new to the whole demigod thing, but also because he doesn't know the rules of being a traumatized kid with all the daddy/mommy issues possible

honestly i think Wally is contacting our world through it, but i doubt he's in it... if the pits / portals / possible entrances to limbo are the source of the black stuff, i have a feeling that Wally might not want to be in there. Between Places are rarely fun to exist inside of, anyway.

I think as we grow up, we have to be really conscious of romanticizing the world we grew up in in order to scorn how the next generations are growing up.

Nostalgia isn't inherently bad, but especially in political spaces, be very wary of this idea that there is an Ideal Past we must Harken Back To.

It sucks to feel left behind, but such is the human condition. It isn't bad to feel nostalgic, but that doesn't mean that these new generations are inherently "lost" and "need to be saved (by you)", and I think that is very important to remember and try to be conscious of.

I quite am literally done with all men in geology

I am so sick of the undergraduate male students I'm teaching treating their women partners or their women instructors like they don't know what they're doing

I did not get a master's degree to be told off by guys who think having a dick = geology experience, geology experience is the only thing that equals geology experience!!! And I have more! That's why I'm teaching and why they don't have a degree yet! So they should learn from me, showing what a bedding surface is, instead of using a "bedding" measurement they took off a fucking crossbed that's not even in place!!!!!

I'm sick of having to reinvent plate tectonics or something to be taken seriously. When does it end? If I get a PhD? If I publish 10 million papers? When do I know enough that my credentials outweigh "girl"?
