Dad comes to the rescue and fix my overbed table!! It was very broken before. And making me sore and upset because of not able to watch laptop without crane neck. And not place to rest arms to help hold phone.
Now, it is better! Dad is very magic and amazing and best Dad ever love you ❤️❤️
For middle of today he took away the middle (broken) part of the table so it was just a gap! That is weird. Now it is back and looks much more normal 😄👍🏻

Harumasa Asaba | M. Reader as Mei Shijima [TBHK]

----------
Spoilers for those who haven't read the Picture Perfect Arc of Toilet Bound Hanako Kun
----------
For as long as Harumasa could remember, the entirety of his childhood was filled with a sterile white room, IV drips, and other machineries. That's just his normal. Wake up, eat, take his medicine, sleep. Rinse and repeat.
A rather boring and dull childhood.
Until one day. He saw someone poking their head into his room, eyes filled with curiosity and wonder. But the moment Harumasa noticed them, they fled. A strange encounter. However as time passes it becomes something Harumasa secretly looks forward to.
He would tell his master about it with a grin on his face while the adult laughs and encourages him. Thinking it's just an imaginary friend. It's normal for children to let their imagination wander after all, yet Harumasa would pout insisting that the encounter was real.
Determined to prove himself right one day, Harumasa decided to escape his room and search for this mysterious figure. Hiding from the adults and other unfamiliar figures Harumasa looks through every corner just to find them. Surely they were here, right? After what felt like an eternity Harumasa found a door, slightly ajar.
This must be it! And so without a second thought Harumasa went through it and was met by a room similar to his but with less medical equipment. Just an IV drip that's connected to the very person he's been trying to find.
That's when Harumasa.. met his first friend.
[Name] Shijima. A really talented artist. Well he's not a artist yet.. but Harumasa is super positive that he'll be one!
Through the times the two grew close. Perhaps their shared pain is what brought them together, but their ambitions and dreams drew them closer.
One day, Harumasa is in [Name]'s room. Chatting with him while the latter draws in his sketchbook. Until [Name] spoke up as he showed Harumasa his rough sketch with stars in his eyes. "In this Atelier Tower, there's a 'what if' version of me and he draws being healthy and well."
As he explains the backstory of his sketch one of his brushes rolls from the overbed table to the tiled floor. Seeing this [Name] attempts to grab it only to tugged his IV on his hand making him flinch in pain. Worried, Harumasa took the brush from the floor and handed it to the other with a weary smile. "Are you okay? Did it hurt?"
"I'm fine, it only hurts a little." [Name] reassures him. Setting down his sketchbook at the overbed table. He looks at it for a second, analyzing every detail of his Atelier Tower. Hie vision. His ambition. His dream.
Harumasa noticed the somber expression on his friend's face as he put the brush on the table. He was about to ask what was wrong, but the sound of the door opening stopped him, his master by the door. Ah, is it already time for him to get back? A hint of disappointment flashes in his eyes, reluctantly bidding his goodbyes to [Name].
When he's left alone [Name] let out a sigh before speaking in a low, somber tone. His gaze is still fixed on his sketch. "The me on this side... I'm just a tiny bit sick, you know? But I'm sure I'll get better soon!"
Lowering his head [Name] rested his cheek on the table. Looking at it with longing. "But until then... In my place, will you draw for me, other me?"
He said in a low, somber tone as if he's talking to his 'other version' that lives inside the Atelier Tower. "If you do that, I'll do my best."
"..isn't it weird? I'm talking to myself.."
...
.....
"...of course."
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
"The poor thing..."
"....And so young, how sad..."
"That poor boy... he's still drawing..."
"But... it's such a severe illness..."
"Recently all he does is sleep.... he seldom eats any of his food! Surely that boy..."
"..is going to die soon..."
----------
That was the last day Harumasa saw [Name].
His master doesn't let him hang out with [Name] anymore and when he asked, all Harumasa got was a small smile. As if the older man is trying to comfort him silently. The same goes for the other doctors there. He doesn't understand.
Why? Why are they not letting him see his friend anymore? That's not fair! Not fair at all! [Name] was in the middle of creating that Atelier Tower of his! And he was planning on showing the finished painting to Harumasa! And [Name] was about to go to art school and became an artist!
...oh sweet childhood innocence..
In the end. Harumasa did see the painting [Name] had promised him. It was on display at an art room of a well-known art school. The creator was nowhere to be seen.
Now he stood there with eyes fixed on the painting. A student, on his way to become a part of HSO. Stood motionless at the mere sight of it as people whispered around him.
"Have you heard? They say that the creator of that painting was very talented at drawing.. but his parents were opposed to him continuing the path of art.. so, in order to chase his dreams.."
"He decided to kill himself."
Harumasa's heart dropped at the sound of their whispers. No.. it's not true.. it can't be true. [Name] didn't..
"Whoa, that makes sense!"
"What so, he killed himself?"
"The painting is kinda scary too.. I don't like it.."
"What if it has all of his evil resentment inside it?"
"That's scary!"
No! [Name] parents supported him. They encourage him to follow his dreams! They weren't opposed to it! Harumasa would know! He would know! They were.. they were..
.
.
.
The Atelier Tower was finished.
And so is its creator.
.
.
.
Time somehow passes by in a blur. Before Harumasa knew it he had graduated. This is it. He's going to be a part of HSO now. All he needs to do is..
Harumasa froze. His feet glued to the ground as his eyes widened. His classmates were all busy with their families, friends, and loved ones. Of course they are, they just graduated, they're celebrating!
Yet his golden eyes caught something else—or perhaps it's more appropriate to say, someone else.
He stood there. Locking eyes with Harumasa. Then.. he smiles. The same smile Harumasa had grown to like.. to adore..
"[Name]..?"

Nighttime visitor
simon "ghost" riley x reader tags: fem reader, medical/wounds descriptions, brief mention of period, burns, he´s scary but nice, fluff kinda, english is not my first language
this is inspired by a personal experience in one of my many stays in hospitals, enjoy
For the tenth time, you check your phone.
12:15am, is not that late.
Sleep is determined to elude you, the plastic covers over the thin mattress scratch the skin on your back and the distant beeps are about to make you lose what little sanity you have left. There´s no TV to not disturb the rest of the patients so that isn´t an option either.
“This is stupid”
Kicking off the covers, you stuffed your feet into your Crocs and grabbed your hoodie from the corner of the bed, almost knocking over the IV pole and pausing for a few seconds to mutter a curse.
This is so stupid
You spent a day and a half in observation, “perks” of being admitted on a weekend. Yes, you fainted at work, no, it's no big deal, you just burned yourself out as usual, but combined with the lack of sleep and the surprise arrival of your period, your brain decided that it had enough of your shit and just turned off the lights in the middle of your office.
Is this a cry for help from your body? Maybe, you've decided that's a conversation for another time, right now you're sick of this damn hospital.
You leave your room as casually as possible. The nurse at the end of the corridor hasn't seen you, or has simply decided to ignore you.
Right now there is only one place in your mind: the open space with a view of greenery in the middle of the visitors' area.
However, as soon as you walk down the stairs to the second wing of the hospitalization area, something catches your attention.
Is that music?
The area seems deserted, so a room with a soft glow coming from the gap between double doors and the big NO VISITORS sign stands out.
Curiosity won and you changed course to take a peek. There was a man in bed. One of his legs was propped up by some sort of medical pillow, and bandages covered some parts of his body. There was a laptop on the overbed table, and there seemed to be a film playing.
You were so engrossed in trying to figure him out that you almost jumped out of your skin when his voice reached you.
"You're not staff"
His voice is a deep baritone. He sounds relaxed and not at all scared of your presence. His eyes are sharp even in the dim light and the room feels small for him.
"Ah shit, I'm sorry!" You try to talk in a low voice, poking your head through the door. "No no, I'm from the third wing, I'm just stretching my legs, sorry to bother you"
Pausing whatever he is seeing in the laptop he assessed at you for a moment.
"Come closer"
Despite being in such a vulnerable position, his voice is commanding and it feels that the only reason he is asking you to come is because he can't do it himself in his state.
An accent colours his words. British?
You entered the room with measured steps, the smell of alcohol and cleaning products is particulary strong. Stopping at the end of his bed you can get a better look at him: huge, menacing, like a wounded lion, no matter how battered it still send chills down your spine. One of his arms is in a sling, there´s some cuts and abrasions in almost every part of his body and his good arm, covered in tattoos, is wrapped with the IV and the blood pressure cuff. But his leg is the worst. The wound is extensive, the skin is angry red and swollen at the edges.
He notices your staring immediately.
"It's burned. Needs to be kept raw for it to heal and isolated to avoid infection"
His tone sounds bored and unimpressed while he shifts on his pillows, trying to get some comfort in his seated position.
"I'm sorry, it's just that I heard your laptop... I thought we couldn't keep stuff like that here"
There´s a glint of amusement in his eyes.
"They don't like to confine me with other patients, I make them nervous, so they let me have some privileges"
“How…?”
He suddenly extended his good arm to loudly drag closer a chair, interrupting your question and making you flinch at the sound.
"You can stay if you keep silent"
He pressed play on his laptop, repositioned himself in bed and his eyes glued to the screen again, as if you weren't there at all.
The hairs in the back of your neck stands up in alert, but something in his voice tells you that comply with him will always be the best option, so you moved closer to him and sat down next to his bed, tucking your legs.
The first minutes passed with you stiff in the chair, but time went on sliding in a comfortable silence, actually enjoying some of the movie.
By the time you started to doze off it was almost 2am, his cold fingers on your neck what woke you up, making you gasp softly.
He laughs hoarsely, definitely enjoying every time he can get a scare out of you “Movie´s over birdie, go to your room”
You blink the sleep off, getting up abruptly and remembering that you willingly secluded yourself with a stranger in the middle of the night just because you were bored.
“Yes, you must be tired, I´ll go” You grab the chair to returned it to its previous position when his hand closes tightly around your wrist.
“Ask for Riley”
“What?”
“From now on, at visiting hours ask for Riley, they´ll bring you to me”
He doesn't let go, he waits for your answer and your mouth dries up with fear, you don't know this man, he's scary, hell, you'll be fired soon. But once again something urges you to say yes.
“I though you didn´t want visitors”
“I changed my mind”

I wish I had proper support for my body. To sit and lie down without pain. Or being too floppy unable to use my arms and hands for things because not enough support to stop them flopping down.
I want to do activities and sit comfortably and able to use my hands to colour or draw or jigsaws.
I wish I could tolerate a more upright position. I wish I could sit up and do more things involving active control and movement of my arms.
I want my body to be in better alignment. I want to not be stuck in the same place - my bed in the same spot in my room with the same boring fucking view of my bedroom ceiling and walls all day every day.
I want to stop sliding down or slumping to the side in bed. I want my legs and feet and bum and back to not get sore from pressure on the same spots all the time. I want my muscles to not get strained and stiff and sore from being in weird positions due to being unsupported.
I wish I didn't dread lying down to sleep because I know it will hurt to lie there and it will hurt even more when I wake up. My body crumples and collapses in on itself when I lie down, and no configuration of pillows that I have tried is enough to put anything at good angles.
I wish I didn't dread sitting up in the morning with my usual pillows behind me, because I know I will be in for a day of discomfort and pain. And that is with the best configuration of pillows that I have found to work for me - I have tried many variations, believe me.
I wish I wasn't only able to walk short distances inside the house. Stuck in the same few routes over and over, always only with a purpose and not just walking around because I want to. I wish I was free to roam.
I am grateful at least for my swing and that I have the ability to get from bed to swing and sit in there for a period of time. But wish I didn't sit wonky and slumped and slouched which causes more pain later.
I feel so stuck. I feel so trapped.
It just sucks.
#words from my head#this is about my experience having several disabilities and conditions that overlap to cause these things#i don't specify what is due to what in this. and i won't. but it is complex. and this is only about myself.#hypotonia#low muscle tone#hypermobility#physically disabled#physical disability#bedbound#bed bound#<- i am mostly bedbound not fully 100%. but i spend majority of my time in bed.#i can't even really sit much - it is a half-propped-up position that is closer to lying down than sitting#and i struggle to lift my head or arms for long#i have to take many breaks while typing this and when i type (on phone) i rest my wrists on the edge of my overbed table#or i rest my phone on my chest#etc. etc. etc.#always finding ways to temporarily prop parts of myself up to do something

♡ sequel: backstage visits
//
“Hey stranger,” You called out from behind the sliding door that was left ajar, your head peeking through the gap to peer inside the hospital room.
“Hey yourself.” Jiung replied with a light chuckle.
You walked in. Walls covered in flowery 90’s wallpaper greeted you warmly, along with a mounted television playing news silently in the background, a small sofa and coffee table set in the corner and a large window with views of skyscrapers dotted along the side of the Han River. And of course, a single hospital bed with your ex-neighbour-turned-idol lying right on top of it.
“It’s a nice room.” You commented, curious eyes scanning your surroundings.
He scoffed. “Yeah, except now there’s a stain at the bottom of the walls from yesterday.” Jiung admitted sheepishly, hands coming up to rub the back of his neck in slight embarrassment.
“Ah…” You trailed off, setting down the two plastic bags you brought with you on his overbed table. “From when you flooded the bathroom?” You questioned, gentle and careful, nose scrunching up adorably.
“Don’t remind me…” He looked away. “I was so embarrassed! Oh my goodness… The head nurse laughed right in my face! I mean, it sounds like she thought it was funny, but I felt so bad.”
“I’m sure it’s fine, plus, who doesn’t like Krispy Kreme donuts?” “I hope so…”
“Anyways, I brought the goods, like you asked.” Your eyebrows cocked towards the bags, while you dragged a fold-up chair closer to his bedside.
Jiung’s eyes lit up at the mention of this. “You did?”
“Of course, who do you think I am?” You laughed, fingers moving to unpack the food. “Half and half wings, gold king and bburinkle flavoured, one pack of bburinkle cheese balls, and a large tteokbokki.” As you announced the order, you brought out the takeaway boxes one by one – soy sauce, sweet honey and garlic flavoured, then cheese powder flavoured wings; the mozzarella cheese balls that you both enjoyed and the large container filled with spicy rice cakes. “Oh, and Cass beer!”
“Y/N…” Jiung uttered, his mouth quickly salivating at the mention of his favourite meal: chicken and beer. “Are you an angel?”
You laughed out loud, cheeks turning a light shade of pink. You turned around, heading to the adjoined bathroom, hoping to hide your flustered expression. Too late, though, Jiung thought that shade of pink looked the cutest on you. “I think you’re just hallucinating from all the drugs they’ve put you under.” You replied.
“I have been dreaming about this meal since I got admitted last week. You’re really saving my life, neighbour.” Jiung breathed out, still amazed at the generous spread of food.
As you walked out, you saw Jiung swinging his legs to the edge of the bed. “Woah, hold on soldier, where do you think you’re going?”
He stopped, eyes wide like a deer caught in headlights. “To wash my hands.”
“No need for that. Sit down and rest – doctor’s orders, remember?” You reached into your handbag and pulled out a hand sanitiser, passing it over to him. “Use this instead. Plus, it’s BHC. They’re professionals. There’s gloves.”
At that, Jiung rolled his eyes at you. “I’m fine,” He drawled out, yet accepting your offer and sanitising his hands. “It’s not like I’m severely injured or anything.”
You gave him a pointed look, fully sceptical. “Right.”
“I’m serious!”
“A ruptured thigh muscle, Jiung. You ruptured your thigh muscle.” You deadpanned, your motherly instincts firing up. “That’s a big deal! Just sit down and eat your chicken, okay?”
“Fine…” He grumbled, pouting as he pulled on his gloves.
“So, how are you feeling about it?”
“About the leg? It’s fine. Honestly, it doesn’t even hurt that much.” Jiung paused to take a bite of the cheese ball, eyes closing in pure bliss as he did so. “So good. This always hits.”
“Okay, but that’s not what I meant.”
“What do you mean?”
You sighed, reaching for a can of beer and opening it for him. “You know what I mean…”
He accepted it, taking a big gulp as he thought through his response. “It’s… fine.” Jiung looked down, suddenly taking a lot of interest in the box of fried chicken in front of him.
“Are you really okay? You were preparing for such a long time. Your mum even told me that you were practising non-stop, even on Seollal, and most of Christmas through to New Years. She said she could only send you banchan this year and was really sad about not seeing you back home.”
“Hey,” He looked up. “Are you here to visit your sick neighbour or to guilt trip him for not visiting his family?” Jiung said before biting into a bburinkle flavoured wing.
“Firstly, ex-neighbour. You moved out years and years ago. Secondly, I’m not trying to guilt trip you. I’m just trying to make sure you’re okay.”
“Well, why do you care if you’re just my ex-neighbour?” Jiung countered in a quiet voice.
“That’s not what I - ” You stopped, sighing. “Okay, we both know you’re not just my ex-neighbour.”
“What am I then?” He looked you straight in the eye.
The two of you engaged in a tense staring contest before the eye contact and the intensity behind his lids freaked you out. “My… My friend, okay? Geez, that’s not the point. Stop deflecting, Choi Jiung. I’ve known you for over a decade and you’re still the same. Always trying to avoid talking about your feelings.” You huffed, passing a pair of chopsticks to him and sliding over the container of tteokbokki.
Jiung nodded his thanks, accepting the cutlery and digging in.
Silence ensued as the words hung over the pair of you. You ate quietly while Jiung slurped up his rice cakes like a starved man. He set down his chopsticks once he took a big bite, sighing. “Okay, fine. You got me. I’m not okay.”
“See! Jiung, you have to talk about your feelings.” You stopped, hands coming up to make vague gestures in the air to emphasise your point. “It’s important! You can’t just keep everything inside. Like,” You picked up a can of unopened beer. “Like this. If you keep it bottled inside and shake it too much, it’ll explode completely and make a mess. Please, just talk to me about it. How are you feeling, Choi Jiung?”
He grimaced internally at the use of his full name, the name his mother would use whenever she got mad at him. “Yeah, I’m not okay. I’m so not okay, Y/N.” He sighed again. At this point, you grew slightly concerned that he would then hurt his nostrils from heavy sighing. You shook the silly thought away to focus. “I’m not okay, because, you know what, yeah. You’re right. We have been practising for so long, and so hard. And I was so excited, and had so many sleepless nights trying to figure out how to do my solo, and what lyrics would go well for the song, and how to set up the stages, and what outfits would go together, and, and…” He took a deep breath to calm himself. Jiung could feel his eyes heat up and the corner of his lids prickling, tears beginning to gather slowly but surely. “And for all that to be taken away from me, it just feels so, so unfair.” His voice sounded so small and vulnerable, your heart cracked a little bit for him. A stray tear escaped, rolling down his cheeks.
Immediately, you use the ends of your sleeves to dab away at his tears. Nodding, you encouraged him to go on.
“And… And I really wanted to visit Japan. Shota was gonna bring us to all these places, we were gonna have dinner with his family, and I was really looking forward to being back in America. I really wanted to walk around LA again, and see the huge trees, and…” Jiung paused again, trying to compose himself. “And I’m just really sad I can’t see the fans. I feel so bad, like I let them down, and I know that for some of them this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing to see us and I let them down and - ”
You didn’t allow him to continue - you simply stood up from your seat and sat next to him on the bed, enveloping him in a hug. “And that’s enough, I’m not gonna let you continue talking down to yourself like that.” You said in a hushed voice. You weren’t too sure why you were whispering, but it felt like the right thing to do.
Jiung shut up promptly, closing his wet eyes, and burying his face in your sweater. He breathed in your scent, a mixture of your fabric softener and jasmine, and felt at ease. He was transported back to simpler times - growing up in a high-rise apartment in the outskirts of Seoul, catching cicadas by the stream next to your house, and running around the parks until the sun went down.
You stayed like this for awhile, and it was like time stopped for you. You could barely breathe from how close you were to Jiung, someone you had admired for a long time now - initially from up close, close enough to count the eyelashes on his pretty face. And now from afar, through a screen. Initially, you wrapped him in a hug to stop him from talking about how he let his fans down, but now, you were just enjoying his warmth. Jiung hugged you back tighter, and you could feel the ends of his orange hair tickling your neck.
It was Jiung who broke the silence. “You feel the same - smell the same, even.” He mumbled, lips too close to your skin for you to maintain a healthy heartbeat.
“Yeah, well…” You hated yourself for pulling away, but you had to do it to check up on him; make sure he was okay. “Moving out to the big city made me crave familiarity. So I had to ask Mum to send me a picture of the softener she used for our clothes when we were growing up.”
Jiung smiled at that. “That’s nice.” He liked the idea of you calling your mum about something as simple as laundry. Often, he felt like his calls back home were the opposite of mundane - his mother would ask him where he was flying to that weekend; he would reply with the destination and tell her that he was working on a few new songs. She would tell him to eat well and not sleep too late; he would reply in the affirmative, hiding the fact that most of the time they were recording in the wee hours of the morning. It seemed like you were worlds apart. Yet, he couldn’t help but feel more than grateful to have a friend like you in his life to keep him grounded. Someone from his previous life, as a child, before he was P1Harmony’s Jiung - when he was just himself, just plain old Choi Jiung. A boy from Anyang. A boy with big dreams. Just a regular boy.
“Also, I’m sure your fans understand. And they’d want you to rest! Trust me,” You paused, “Everyone on SNS has been commenting to wish you a speedy recovery but also saying that this is a great opportunity for you to get some well-deserved rest. You guys never seem to rest these days. A comeback and a tour? You must’ve been so busy..”
Jiung laughed, amused. “You read the fan comments?”
“What? Of course! Why are you surprised?”
“Wow…” Jiung replied. “You know, we kinda lost contact when we were in high school but when you reached out again a few years ago I really did think it was because you suddenly missed me. Now I know why…”
“What do you mean?”
“Did you reach out because you were a fan? I always believed your story - I thought it really was because you bumped into my mum back in Anyang and she passed you my new number.”
“I mean…” You fumbled. Now it was your turn to be embarrassed. “That happened! I swear!”
“But…?”
“No buts! That is definitely what happened.”
“Right… So who’s your P1Harmony bias? Tell me.” Jiung teased, lips curling into a cheeky grin. He passed you the beer, urging you to drink. “Drink up and tell me. Don’t worry, I can set you up with them. Just tell me.”
You took a huge gulp as you whacked him on the arm.
“Hey! That hurt!”
“You deserved it.” You mumbled.
“So, who is it?” Jiung still wouldn’t let it go.
“You don’t need to know.” The tips of your ears were warming up now. You distracted yourself by munching on some wings, hoping he would just drop the topic already.
“C’mon, I deserve to know, at least.”
Just then, your phone, which was on top of the table, lit up with a Kakao notification. Your eyes widened in alarm, suddenly remembering that you had just recently changed your wallpaper to a (very cute) photo of Jiung from their most recent music video. With your clean hand, you reached over to grab it before Jiung could see it.
But alas, you were too slow. “Oh…” Jiung mused, getting all cocky. “I get it now.”
“What do you get? There’s nothing to get.” You forced out a laugh, flipping your phone the other way and burying it under your seat.
“Y/N…” Jiung drawled out the syllabus of your name in a teasing yet slightly dangerous way, as if he had an evil master plan. “Tell me something, and be honest.”
“Nope, I refuse.” You said, shaking your head vigorously.
“Do you like me?”
You continued shaking your head no and chewing in silence.
“Be honest, I’m not gonna judge you. Am I your bias?”
“Shut up, I refuse to answer.”
“Ah, so I am right.”
“That’s not what I said!”
“You didn’t have to say it, Y/N. I can tell… Just admit it. You like me.”
“No! This is so embarrassing…”
//
{ epilogue }
The nurses filling out their charts at the station giggled and gossiped over their dinners.
“So, what do you think is gonna happen?”
“Gosh, watching them is so frustrating. Like, just confess already!”
“I know right! I almost want to do something about it. Like slip them a note or push them into each other or something.”
“Ah, the beauty of young love…”

Hi Pia,
I just wanted to say you are an inspiration to me. I'm in my twenties and also struggling with an insane amount of health issues with new ones constantly popping up, which makes me feel like I will never be able to do anything with my life. Except maybe for writing, because I can do that in my bed and I love escaping into fictional worlds.
I don't know much about your life except what you share in the author's notes, but knowing that you're living life out there and writing these amazing stories despite all your health issues gives me hope. Unfortunately I live in the US, so it's easy to fall into a spiral of doom, but maybe I can be like you one day. The choices you make every day to keep pushing forward, keep doing things that make you happy, is what makes me believe that it's possible for me to keep going, too.
Hiya anon,
Health issues suck, don't they? I started my Crappy Pokemon Collection of Chronic Health Issues in my teens but I remember I really started to get concerned in my 20s when it just kept happening. And kept happening. I think there's a sadness/grief and depression and anger that comes with that too, and a fear.
For what it's worth, science comes up with new medications all the time, new discoveries, new breakthroughs. I have started medications that have helped some issues I've had for 25 years, thinking they'd just progressively get worse. And to be fair, some of my issues do progressively get worse, and I do have new chronic illnesses or chronic or stupid health things come up fairly frequently. And as I'm sure you know, maintenance and surveillance and chasing this shit up is its own job and labour that is extremely thankless.
But outside of that, there is a great radical activism in simply being kind to yourself, loving yourself, trying hard not to see yourself as wrong in the world, as still deserving to take up your space, no matter how much that changes over time.
I have loved ones in my life who spend most of their time in their bed (and otherwise in a wheelchair), all in their 40s/50s, all who have rich lives filled with loved ones. That doesn't mean they're not sad sometimes, or not frustrated with an ableist world (especially around how quickly everyone gave up on us), but it does mean when everything feels awful and despair-filled, they have people who love them, they have hobbies and interests (game coding can be done from a bed, art can be, cross-stitch can be, writing can be, and even sometimes chopping fruit and vegetables can be if you have one of those sturdy overbed tables and can trust your hands), they have things that get better and things that get worse, they all think their lives are better now because it does just take time to...learn how to live in a body that does this when you're younger and had different visions for yourself.
I spend a lot of my time in bed. I need to lie down every afternoon for several hours or I'm non-functional in the evenings and that's on my best days. Escaping into fictional worlds is honestly such a blessing, whether it's in writing or movies or TV or anime or manhwa etc.
Sending hugs and solidarity and much love for how things are in the USA right now, especially for ill / disabled folk. There are lot of people fighting the good fight, so please make sure you take the time to rest, even on the good days, when you might be tempted to push past your limits to get everything done.
It took me forever to stop overspending energy on my good days, and I still do it all the the time, lol.
#asks and answers#why are people so nice#personal#the journey of 'i started getting sick when i was young and it just didn't stop'#is honestly pretty shitty#one of the reasons i do speak up about it#even though i'm sure some people wish i wouldn't#is a) because chronically ill people should be allowed to speak about their illnesses it's a fact of our lives and#it's not at all shameful#b) because solidarity - if you see something you like in someone else's life#and find out they have pain and fatigue similar to yours#it's like 'oh shit you mean i don't just have to become an under-blanket lump forever?'#c) because it's a form of activism#and d) because it's hard and i need to speak about it and honestly i think#it also explains *why* i write the way that i do#may you find many many more good people in your life as it goes on anon#you deserve all the good things#administrator gwyn wants this in the queue
