He sat staring at the marbled cover of the book, trying without success to shut the voice out of his consciousness.

Hi, I love your page! What are your thoughts on Roy and Connor's relationship?

Hi! Thank you so much, I'm glad you like my posts :) and thank you sososo much for this ask, I love Roy and Connor's relationship and I'm glad I have an opportunity to talk about them. Sorry it's taken me all day to answer, but here you go :)

Short answer? That's his little brother.

Long answer?

I know that "fanon Batfam is canon Arrowfam" is tired and overused, but I really do think that, especially with Roy and Connor, there is some truth to it. While they haven't had too many interactions in canon, there's still a clear arc their relationship takes which I really like.

I don't like Chuck Dixon's Green Arrow run, obviously he's a shitty person but also his writing just isn't for me, but one of the few parts of it I did enjoy was Connor's first meeting with Roy in Green Arrow (1988) #97, prior to Ollie's death. It first establishes one of the most present themes in their relationship, which is the differences in relation to Ollie, and the contrasting experiences of being their father's sons. Roy's the son who grew up with Ollie, he knows him personally, the good and the bad, but his status as Ollie's son is still constantly in question, you can see it back in Longbow Hunters, Ollie calls Roy his son but still denies that that word has meaning ("Roy's a hell of a kid, but he's not mine. Not really.") Whereas Connor, there's never been any doubt that he's Ollie's son, he's his flesh and blood, but he never knew Ollie until he was already in adulthood. He knows Oliver Queen through magazines, but not personally. That's why when Ollie storms off after finding out he's Connor's dad Connor's shocked, but Roy isn't surprised when he hears that from Connor. He knows Ollie, and he knows how his fears of commitment would make him act. While this is only a minor theme of those specific issues where they first met, Roy helping Connor understand what it means to be Oliver Queen's son is one of my favourite parts of their later interaction.

After Ollie's death, there is some tension between Roy and Connor, particularly around Connor joining the JLA in Ollie's place and becoming the new Green Arrow, first mentioned in Teen Titans (1996) #12-

-which is later expanded on in Arsenal #2.

This is really the first time we see Roy and Connor have a heart to heart, and it shows Roy's inferiority complex. Due to tumblr photo limit I can't show more pages for this, but I think the one I chose is the most poignant because, at least in my eyes, it shows the insecurities both of them have in terms of their relation to Ollie, and how each of them address that. Roy's loud, he'll openly speak his mind and say what he feels, and that's why it's primarily about him (that and that it's his mini and Connor's a guest). Roy openly admits feeling inferior to Connor in his position as Ollie's son, even after Ollie's death. Connor, he's quieter about it, and gets spoken over by Roy before he can actually talk about his feelings (which is a pretty consistent problem Connor faces where people expect him to listen but not talk). But you can still see it in his body language, the shadow over his face looking downwards, and while he isn't allowed to finish his sentence you can still tell what he's about to say, that Roy's more of Ollie's son than he is. They both know that the other hasn't actually done anything, but they're not to blame for each feeling their own individual emotions.

They also address the topic of legacy in relation to Ollie in #3, and how there's this unspoken standard to live up to that neither of them ever really can. Roy's Ollie's mentee, his protege, he should be Ollie's legacy, and yet he's not Green Arrow, he's not in the JLA, and he's still coming in second place. Whereas Connor, he is Green Arrow, he's Ollie's legacy, he's in the JLA, but he's a better martial artist than archer.

I wish they'd gotten more opportunities to interact while Ollie was dead because there was SO much potential for them during that period, but alas.

And now, I get to talk about one of my top five comics ever: Boys' Night Out, Green Arrow (2001) #32. Yeah, sure, the whole issue only happened because Ollie wanted Connor out of the house, but it's also the first comic to really explore the brotherly relationship between them, particularly in terms of Roy being older. Roy takes Connor bookshopping despite his own boredom-

-And then takes him to a strip club, where they have another heart to heart.

This page specifically is so important to me, because it's one of the few instances where Connor's actually being heard. Particularly in the 2000s but also in the 90s, a lot of Connor's character was defined by him being the voice of reason, the one who'll talk people down and listen to their problems, which ignores the fact that he's actually a pretty young guy, usually younger than the people he's helping (I suck with ages, I'm pretty sure he was 18 when he was first introduced which, by rough estimate using the Lian Method, would make him around 20-22 in the 2000s). I'm not saying that diminishes his emotional intelligence, he's clearly very emotionally intelligent, but it is a lot of pressure to put on someone that young to constantly be the one holding his family together. That's why I think this whole issue is so important for Connor, it's his chance to actually just be, and Roy's the best person for that. Despite what some fanon and canon characterisations suggest, Roy is absolutely not emotionally immature. Hell, you could make a pretty solid argument that part of the reason he took Connor to a strip club in the first place was to bring up the issue of Connor's sexuality. While asexuality wasn't as popularised as a term back then as it is today, the idea of Connor being queer was very present during Green Arrow (2001), albeit often used as a punchline, and while they're there Connor even gets referred to as a "friend of Madonna" by one of the workers. And while in Roy's head Connor was either gay or just had a low libido at that time, his "you're you and Ollie loves you" speech could very easily be interpreted as acceptance of his sexuality, even before Connor himself had figured it out. It acknowledges that, while Connor's good at helping other people work through their own problems, he's still a young person struggling with his identity, not understanding why he's so different to those around him, even his father. And Roy picks up on that, and tells him that it doesn't matter who or what he is, that what matters most is he's Connor, and him being Connor is enough to warrant love and support.

But Roy also doesn't treat Connor any differently to how he'd treat anyone else. When Connor says something Roy disagrees with, he calls him out

And I think Roy's treatment of Connor as an equal is very important. He doesn't depend on him or treat him like he's this pinnacle of wisdom, but he also doesn't coddle him and treat him like a baby. He calls his ass out, when he needs to! Roy's still a very loud and outspoken person, and he's not gonna change that because he and Connor had a heart to heart. I feel like a big problem with a lot of characters who enter into a family dynamic is that sometimes their writers change who they are at their core in order to have them fit into a specific role in the nuclear family, and while yeah, Roy's absolutely playing the role of an older brother in this issue, he's still Roy Harper, which I think is crucial. And conversely, Connor also calls Roy out when he does something he doesn't like!

I'm running low on the photo limit so apologies for the quality of this collage, and I couldn't fit it in frame but for context Roy just knocked out a robber who Connor was trying to talk down. Connor explains to Roy his reasonings, and Roy apologises! I think this also highlights the differences in terms of their characters. They're both very protective of their families, but Roy tends to act first whereas Connor thinks things through. Roy saw Connor with a gun pointed at him and immediately took action, which contrasts Connor's reaction when Roy gets shot in Outsiders #6

Connor's more of a rational thinker in times of crisis, and he tends to try and think things through and avoid rash decisions, whereas Roy's very much an immediate responder if his family's at stake.

And then it ends with them actually acknowledging each other as brothers!

The ending of Boys' Night Out is so important to me, honestly, and it demonstrates one of the most important features of their relationship- trying to figure out what brotherhood means. There's not a big hug at the end, there doesn't need to be. Just an acknowledgement that they're in each others lives, that they're brothers, and it doesn't matter what that means. It's cool. I adore this issue so much, I had to make like half the post about it because it's so good and it's such a good example of why filler issues are needed. Sure, Williamson's run has it's sweet moments, but an issue like this where two characters just get to interact in a low stake scenario will always be so much more impactful than one hug in a big event.

So, yeah, I think my short answer sums it up pretty well. They're the brothers ever.

Well. SniperSpy's Great Misadventures has finally come to its end. I'm not going to lie, I will miss this project so damn much but at the same time I couldn't be happier I got to tell the story I wanted and give my dearest darlings the ending they deserve. This is the ending I always wanted to give them and this is the ending I always had in mind with each chapter.

It felt like there was more writing than usual today, so my hand started hurting. I had to switch to typing for a few things, but that's okay. For some reason, I also started to feel quite fatigued just before my lunch break this morning. I made some green tea to drink with lunch, and that seemed to help. Normally my parents don't like me having caffeine, but they are okay with me having it if I feel like I need it. They aren't fans of it on a daily basis, which is strange because I know both of my parents drink coffee every morning!

I hope everyone is doing well this week! I know it is the end of the academic year for some of us, and it is a very stressful time! But we got this! We are almost done! <3

Part 2 of my Sabretooth vs Wolverine: Redux! It was great seeing Creed in the pages of X-Men ’97 and I still have my fingers crossed that we’ll get an epic showdown between Logan and Victor on-screen (especially since after episode 5 we’re CLEARLY not shying away from blood and brutality).

X-men finale reaction...

OMG, hell yes. This was epic, this was a triumph and looking at all of the ten episodes together, THE best X-men adaptation ever. It did honor to the source material and was the best decision to keep it in the 90s and not modernize it And it took it beyond and super deep. The music was epic- I want the soundtrack or would attend a live concert of the music. Then the plot and fan service done to the viewers was chef's kiss perfection. There may be detractors out there and I may come down from this cloud and be able to nitpick but not now. I'm too excited and thrilled.

Firstly, I love that Disney is promoting X-men on the main page and was the first thing I saw when I opened the app. Yes, Disney! Disney/Marvel, congrats. You helped create a masterpiece of modern storytelling that revived an old almost forgotten piece of comic cartoon history and pulled it into the modern age. It was perfect timing and us old fans who grew up on TAS was thirsting after, but you also brought in new viewers and viewers like my husband who could care less about cartoon superheroes. But the storylines were compelling and the writing was deep, X-men 97 deserves its flowers. (Spoilers ahead).

Secondly, the writing and character development in this episode was fan service, it was perfection, and it was very well written. Starting with Cherik which I had some objections to last week due to feeling that Xavier was being holier than thou and not understanding Erik. But in this episode seeing the lengths that Xavier would go for Erik melted my heart. I still have some thoughts about Erik "making his X-men turn on each other" as I feel that they are grownups with their own minds, but the rest of the episode with Xavier cradling Erik and willing to go down with the ship with him is gold. Then they busted out the Badass X-women and I loved it! I am a huge Rogue fan and they did right by her- she was accepted back into the team no questions asked and she was so fierce. I teared up when she attacked Bastion with the "Remember it" line and I loved the whole team stepping up, working together to battle Bastion. I also loved the Cable/Scott/Jean storyline and we even got some Morpherine!

Thirdly, some of my predictions came true! I predicted in a previous post that the Avengers and other Marvel characters would make cameos in the finale and I was right! It was a veritable who's who of Marvel characters and I cackled in delight when they popped up! Predictably, Iron Man and Captain America were in the White House with the President. I knew that they weren't sitting out on this one! Then we saw Daredevil, Silver Samurai, Black Panther and Dora Milaje, Psylocke and many more!

Last but certainly not least, Apocalypse and more importantly DEATHBIT! As a ROMY shipper, I squeed so much at this! The fans have been dreaming about this since ep 5 as it gives us even a sliver of having some part of Gambit back and now it's confirmed with that Queen of Hearts cliffhanger. Oooh yes! Even if it's not the Real Remy back, just having Deathbit and a glimmer of Remy back in the storyline is juicy and desired indeed. There are a LOT of Romy and Gambit fans out there and this satisfies us and has us wanting more. Even if it's crazy and complicated, fans are going to eat up a Deathbit storyline, so yes please! And beyond Gambit, Apocalypse is a badass villain- kudos for the writers going here. Comic and Cartoon fans alike can agree that time travel is interesting and will come up with many cool, fascinating new storylines.

I can't wait until Season 2, but until then I will be rewatching the finale a million times. I am so glad that the writers understood the assignment and gave us this masterpiece. It calmed my Romy heart, gave us amazing battle sequences, had fun Marvel cameos, and perfectly set up next season.

my main thought is: dylan did not love one girl, he circled around numerous girls that he thought he was in-love with, but in reality was just in-love with love, and that it could save him from his misery.

in klebold's journal, specifically the page dated: 1/2/98, the text reads:

man I dont know what's up lately...never do in existence. All this shit w. [edited] and [edited] friends.... so wierd & different from past... yet again, thats the way in existence. I wonder if i ll ever have a love...my love. [edited] got his, I dont, wont ever get mine. Here's all the people ive loved, or at least liked (or thought I loved) - all the same meaning.

followed by this image:

now he says "all the same meaning" and because of the hearts, I will assume the list is of people he had crushes on or thought he was "in-love with".

perhaps the halcyon girl was part of this list, or maybe these are past crushes, but still it gives an insight that dylan was not focused on just one girl and he was just kinda having little crushes on girls and was somehow convincing himself (that at least some) were 'true love'.

I've seen a few names thrown around. those being:

i'll try to explain why each girl has been said to might've been her halcyon girl, there's a LOT of info for some, and I'm just typing what I remember.

why rachel joy scott? oh boy.

the letter R in the heart drawn in the klebold's diary. but there is no direct information about them being close. like at all. other than they both had devon as a mutual friend. they knew each other and probably only just because of the saved performance.

why marla foust? marla is picked mainly for two reasons: the acoustic poem, the mention of "mara" in klebold's writings and that he supposedly asked her to prom.

In his journal entry of november '97 called "ThoughtS":

"church was so fun.... the rec thing w. mara". there's speculation that he just misspelled her name, which isn't far fetched seeing that he misspelled his own middle name at some point.

there's 10 letters, marla foust, is 10 letters. it's possible to fit her name in:

as for the prom, marla told investigators at one incident klebold asked her to prom, but had to declined his offer because she already had a date. (however some people think she lied about that because dylan didn't even know the date to prom and robyn had to basically beg him to go).

why kristen theibault? klebold a girl in his june ‘97 entry called "my 1st love??":

“such a strange name, like mine”, the theory is derived because of her last name, ‘theibault’ pronounced a lot like ‘klebold’. plus, kristen not only have friends in the TCM, (joe stair, chris morris and tad boles) she and dylan definitely knew each other at-least, to the point that dylan's dad mentioned her.

why erin boortz? again, the acoustic poem, but instead, with erin:

E = is for the (everlasting, eternal, ecstatic) joy she gives me R = is for how she (renders) me helpless with her beautiful gaze I = is for the innocent (infinite, intense) moments times she shares w. me N = is for the (new, newly) found love that I've been looking for all my life B = is the (both, beauty) of us as a couple O = is for how (often) I hope to spend time with her O = is for she is the (only) one I love, that I have ever loved. fun fact: erin's chevy blazer was hit with bullets during the shooting. I can't find much info about her than that lol.

that's about all I can think about tbh. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of these girls, or maybe all of them at some point. or just a few. I've seen some people say he may had feelings for devon, but who knows.

a few things from his journal like:

"girls i know (mainly [edited] & [edited]), how i know i can never have them, yet i can still dream..." - mentions two girls and how he can't be with them.

"The one who I thought was my true love, [Edited], is not. Just a shell of what I want the most... The meanest trick was played on me - a fake love... I have no happiness, no ambitions, no friends, & no LOVE!!!" - ok. so bro really has the habit of just saying some girls are his true love and then realize they aren't. u see what i'm saying? he was playing hot potato.

"Goodbye all the crushes ive ever had, just shells.... images, no tu truths... BUT WHY?" - alright, first. crushes. plural. and again, frustration that said girl(s) didn't meet his halcyon expectations.

"[Edited] who i think i love deeper than ever... I was hollow, thought I was right. Another form of the Downward Spiral... deeper & deeper it goes. to cuddle w. her, to be one w. her, to love; just laying there." - ok. see, and now he just goes to another chick he's SUREEE is his true love.

"I don't know my love: could be [edited], or [edited], or [edited], or [edited], or anyone. I don't know & im sick of not KNOWING!! to be kept in the dark is a punishment!!!" - this could go on forever, but i think my point is made. he didn't love one girl, he was just desperate for something of "not knowing". he just wanted something or in this case, someone to save him.

tldr: dylan was lonely and just wanted some girl and the love they'd have to "save him".

I have a question for you what do you think of the quote unquote age gap between Bloom and Valtor?

I had to do alot of research to understand Bloom age when I started to like this ship better than Mr cheater. So here's a brief information dump:

Bloom is 16 in the first episode and its confirm her bday is December 10 (we don't know the the exact year when each girl was born only the fact Stella is the oldest by that logic Bloom is the second youngest out of the group) when we get to season 3 it is confirmed that the girls is in their 3rd semester so that makes Bloom 19 at point. Valtor's age we do not know however I'm going to say at most early 20s from what we know Valtor working with a younger Griffin before he got Popsicled.

Here comes the tricky part. In s4 the girls just finished their semester and graduated making them 20-21. Up until s5 where Nicklodeon had to reboot their age making them 16 again. Flashforward to s8 and that makes Bloom age 19 if you are following the reboot or 23 if you do not follow the reboot. Since we don't know how long Valtor been frozen his mental age is up for debate.

For me personally I don't see Sparxshipping as an Edward and Bella situation as Edward was aging naturally during his years while Valtor was frozen and couldn't age naturally but only mentally.

Okay okay first of all! Your Bloom math checks out and I just realized that I for some reason always thought Bloom is 18 in s3. Which is still possible, I think, I just dont know why I assumed that. Actually no, it works, if she is 16 in s1 she is 17 in s2 and 18 in s3, but we dont know a lot about how the school years work in Magix so I'm gonna jot her down as 18-19 for the remainder of this post.

Still dont know how I passed math btw.

Anyway. Valtor's age is where the real mystery is at. We've got two possibilities in my opinion.

1. He's pulling the ageless immortal card.

My personal go-to for fics and discussions. Love me some 300 year old mommy issues. He has too much practice being a messy bitch, there's no fixing this man folks.

Evidence: There's a flashback showing him with Griffin as a tween: she looks MUCH younger, he looks exactly the same. Unless he also stole the secret magic of the world's most potent anti aging cream, or Griffin's proximity to Faragonda just aged her by three more decades, he does not age.

2. He is the age he looks.

Which, in my humble opinion, would not put him anywhere near twenty. That is a grown man. He's not college age, unless you count college professors under that word. Even if I were good at guessing ages the very stylized art style would throw me for a loop, but im gonna say 40s, give or take. Look at Avalon, look at Codatorta, look at King Radius if u must. That is the age range we're looking at.

Evidence: I dont have any. We're ballin'. I guess it's never explicitly stated he's immortal, which you'd think would be big enough of a deal to mention. If u got something feel free to let me know.

That being said, the Winx Club Wiki page for the canon timeline (ha, good one) puts the time of Valtor's creation in a rough time frame from "Over 17 years before season 1" to "Under 100 years before season 6". So he could technically be anywhere from 17-97, though I'm not sure the upper limit is as reliable as the lower one, given the check-list format of the website. So make of that what you will.

Now that we've got the question of age out of the way, lets get to the age gap. I have no idea what the situation in twilight was to be honest, so I cant compare that.

Realistically, there's at least a decade between Bloom and Valtor. Possibly two decades and change. And that is just from visible age, we can add a few centuries on top of that if we're sticking with the immortal bit. I'm gonna be gonest, I dont think being frozen for 17 years will make a whole lot of difference here.

If you find that icky, which is fair, you can always change that for fics tho! Either turn him into a twenty year old or put Bloom in her milf-era, the options are endless. Personally, I think the age difference is half the fun though, and also the least of their issues. When you're off making out with the objectively worst person in history, wether he's too old for her isnt gonna rank very high on people's list of concerns.

You guys had a ton of funny things to say in response to the polls in the Best Chapter Cover in the Manga Tournament. So much so, that my initial list of funny comments was three full pages long. Dragon Ball Super Manga ch.97-99

Cell Max is running wild, but don't worry, because Goten and Trunks are here to pad the story give Piccolo and Gohan a breather.

To be fair, the boys do a little better once they turn Super Saiyan, which kind of begs the question of why they didn't just turn Super Saiyan from the start. This page's sole purpose is to have the Gammas notice their "resemblance" to Saiyaman X-1 and X-2. This would be annoying enough even if they did look alike, but they don't. Look at them! Trunks and Goten have tights and some sort of Stormtrooper midriff thing going on. The Gammas are wearing jodhpurs and bellhop jackets. And Goten and Trunks' color schemes are clearly reversed from one to the other. The Gammas match perfectly except for their red and blue capes.

The only real similarities here are the numbers on their costumes, and the fact that there are two of them. Oh, and Gamma 1 has a red cape, and Goten has a red cape. Eerie! What are the odds of two superheroes having red capes? You almost never see that. I mean, there's Superman, Thor, Great Saiyaman, Dr. Strange, Spawn, Great Saiyaman 2, the Scarlet Witch, Supergirl, Great Saiyaman 3, Power Girl, Steel, but other than those characters, I can't think of anyone else!

Then they all pose together and attack Cell Max in concert. It looks impressive, but their quadruple-team fails to do any damage. The Gammas acknowledge that Cell Max is still getting used to moving around in his body, so he's not fighting as effectively as he will be later in the story. So that's why Goten and Trunks can do this well without actually hurting their opponent. And that's fair.

What doesn't make a lot of sense is the Gammas' role in this part of the battle. Of everyone involved in this battle, they alone understand the danger Cell Max poses to the world, because Dr. Hedo told them about Max's powers. That's why they went in first when Cell Max first emerged. They knew they had to shut him down as quickly as possible. And they're not rusty like Goten and Trunks, or unfamiliar with their bodies like Cell Max. If there's a window of opportunity here for Goten and Trunks to fight Cell Max without looking outclassed, then you'd think the Gammas would use this chance to target Max's head and finish him off.

Of course, they can't actually do that, since that's not what happened in the movie, but that's the problem I have with all of this. Toyotaro keeps shoehorning Goten and Trunks into this story, and their scenes tend to interfere with the plot instead of adding to it. The Gammas have a cool gimmick and aesthetic with the super hero thing. It works. They don't need two more characters aping that look right beside them. At best it's redundant, and at worst it just cramps their style. It'd be like if Frieza had a teen sidekick following him around repeating everything he says. It would kill his whole vibe.

Okay, so once Goten and Trunks fuse into Gotenks, the battle plays out mostly like it did in the movie, but there's one part that got changed up and it caused some controversy in the fandom. Remember how Pan almost got killed, and Krillin called out to her and told her to fly, and then she managed to fly for the first time?

So in the manga, Pan has the same moment, except she doesn't take flight. Instead...

In this version, Krillin just flies over and grabs her. And that makes sense. Why would he just assume she can fly on her own? Why not just zip over and get her? However, this kills the character arc Pan had in the movie. She started the film wishing she could do more advanced training, but Piccolo won't let her because she can't fly yet. Then in this scene, she does fly, and when the movie ends she shows Piccolo and he proudly agrees to start giving her the advanced lessons.

Fans didn't like this version, because Toyotaro appeared to be saying "no" to something the fans enjoyed in the movie. Krillin doesn't need a hero moment in this scene because he gets a couple of hero moments when he helps fight Cell Max. He saves 18 and distracts Cell Max with a solar flare. Krillin's fine. So it sure looks like Toyotaro just scrapped Pan's big moment for no discernible reason. This happened in Chapter 97.

Right, back to what I was saying.

So in Chapter 98, Toyotaro redeems himself by having Pan fly for the first time, just in a later part of the battle. When Big Orange Piccolo gives the last senzu bean to Gohan in the movie, Gohan just eats it and that's it. But in the manga, Cell Max attacks Piccolo and knocks it out of his hand. No one can catch it, until Pan goes after it and follows it over a ledge. Gohan's worried, but then it turns out she can fly now so she was never in danger, and she gets to help him this way.

Is it better than the movie? I can see a case for this version, but one thing that bugs me is that it seems a bit contrived for Pan to notice the senzu bean and be able to follow it through the air the way she did. I believe she could and would catch it for her dad. That's fine. But I'm not sure she would understand the need from where she was sitting in Bulma's aircraft.

For that matter, I don't know that it makes sense for Pan to understand what a senzu bean is, or why Gohan would need one so badly. Someone might have explained it to her at some point, but Pan's only three years old. I wouldn't expect her to know everything about everything.

Anyway, it goes to show how much can change from one chapter to another. People were mad about Chapter 97, but only because they didn't have 98 right there in front of them to show them it wasn't that big a deal. This is one major reason why I don't like to read the manga as it publishes.

From here, well, I think I'm just down to cool shots of the fight with Cell Max.

I don't think much is different here, but the art is cool, and this is one of my favorite parts of the movie.

I think this is a manga-only bit. Cell Max works over Piccolo with ki blasts, and it looks like Piccolo blows up, which triggers Gohan's Beast form, but then later it turns out Gamma 1 was protecting Piccolo with his force field, which allowed him to withstand the blast.

Also, when Cell Max tries to use his wings to escape the attack Gohan has planned, Toyotaro has Gamma 1, Krillin, and 18 cut off his wings. Not sure we needed this, but sure, it gives those characters one more chance to shine.

And then Piccolo holds Cell Max down and pleads with Gohan to take the shot, and that's the end of chapter 99.

And that gets me all caught up. Now I just have to wait for Chapter 100, which is supposed to drop on December 20. Hopefully, it'll wrap up the Super Hero adaptation, but I wouldn't put it past Toyotaro to drag this thing out another three chapters with some sort of press conference featuring Sergeant Nutz, Saiyaman X-1 and X-2, and Cleangod.

There's been talk of a big surprise twist or something in chapter 100, but I'm not holding my breath. Usually when this franchise has a big announcement, it's about the date for some actual announcement later, and that announcement usually turns out to be something the fans kind of already heard about anyway. "Yes, we will be releasing a Chapter 101" is the sort of thing I would expect them to "announce" in chapter 100.

It would be cool if Chapter 100 ended with Black Frieza showing up and killing Vegeta or something major like that. Or, I don't know, maybe Goten and Trunks turn evil. Those would be shocking developments, but I doubt this manga would go that far. We'll just have to see...

The game was packed with minigames in addition to the main puzzles, such as the dress up and treasure hunt feature. You must have all felt very accomplished once it was complete.

Hino We had to be diligent to ensure that all of the events were 100% complete, but everyone put their heads together and worked hard to produce the final product.

The directors, Kumakai-san and Susuki-san, said “There was a strong feeling of: ‘we’ve done it’, this time.”

Hino From Kumakai and Suzuki’s points of view, for certain. The two years of development was a long time for the “Professor Layton” team, so I think there is a sense of accomplishment in that.

This is the sequel that the fans were waiting for, after all!

Hino This time, a lot of attention was paid to details. As I played the completed game, I found myself thinking “it even has this?!” Each world was made carefully.

You can touch even normal-looking items on the map and they respond, right?

Hino You could say “(you) can’t go this far with all of them!” but we were in an exceptional position, after all. I think they did a really good job.

What parts of “Azran Legacy” did you pay special attention to?

Hino The concept of this game is for players to be able to “play as and when they would like to”. Not just for the story, but we also wanted players to be able to solve puzzles, and complete the collection and treasure hunt freely.

So, what is your favourite scene, Hino-san?

Hino The latter half of the game, where many characters have a change of heart. I often wondered whether such a scenario would be suited to a handheld game, but the “Professor Layton” series always deals with the serious parts in a serious manner. I think it manages to provide a tasteful end for each character.

As a fan of the game, I think I still want to see more of the Layton and Luke duo…

Hino I think this will be a stopping point (ambiguous, could mean end, or just a pause) for the main series. However, it is possible that Layton and Luke will appear in spin-off works.

Oh, a spin off?!

Hino We are making something working off of the “Professor Layton” series, but whether it will be connected to “Professor Layton”, or a completely independent work, we don’t know yet. Overseas, this game’s ability to play the story and also freely solve puzzles has been well received, so people would like to see the series continue. But whether it will an adventure with Layton, or perhaps his son or daughter, or another different person entirely, we are still deciding.

In the iOS game “Layton Brothers: Mystery Room”, the protagonist is Layton’s son. So are you saying…?!

Hino I’ve made many games, but I don’t want to make something normal. Even with a new “Profesor Layton”, I want to create a constant feeling surprise of “what just happened?!” I hope to announce a new “Professor Layton” in the future.

I hope we can be reunited with characters like Emmy and Descole, who we parted ways with here!

Hino Should we continue on in the same universe, those characters will probably appear again. The world of Layton, or “Alternate London” as we call it, is all one coherent setting, so I wonder whether we can use that to create something new.

日野 すべてのイベントが 100 %の完成度になっているかどうかは、常に精進しないといけない部分ではありますけど、みんなが頭をひねって考え出した、それぞれの苦労が結集された作品になりましたね。

ディレクター の熊谷さんと鈴木さんも、「今回は "やりきった"という感覚が強い」とおっしやっていました。

日野 熊谷と鈴木の視点から見てもそうでしようね。開発に 2 年というのは、『レイトン教授」チ ー ムにとっては初めての長期間でしたし、そういう意味でも達成感はあると思います。

ファンにとっても、待ちに待った続編ですからね!

日野 今回は、本当に細かく作られているんですよ。僕もある程度完成したものをプレイしているときに「ここまでやるの!?」という思うくらい、丁寧に 1 つ 1 つの世界を細かく作りこんであります。

マップの何気ない物も、タッチするといろんな反応を返してくれたりしますよね。

日野 「毎回はここまでやれないよ」というくらい、特別なポジションの作品ですからね。本当によく頑張ってもらったと思います。

『超文明 A の遺産』で特に注目してほしい部分はどこでしよう?

日野 やはり、今回のコンセプトで打ち出した「旅をしている気分で、好きなように遊べる」という部分でしようか。スト ー リ ー を追っていくだけでなく、 1 つ 1 つのナゾを解いていったり、コレクションやひみつのワ ー ドを集めてもらったりと自由にプレイしてほしいですね。

それでは、日野さんのお気に入りのシ ー ンは?

日野 後半に向かう部分での、いろんなキャラクタ ー の心の動きですね。携帯ゲ ー ム機の作品で、果たしてこういうシナリオが向いているのかと思うこともあったんですけど、『レイトン教授』シリ ー ズはシリアスな部分はシリアスに描いてきた作品ですから。それぞれのキャラクタ ーたちの終わりを、丁寧に作れたと思います。

今作を遊んだファンとしては、やはりレイトンとル ー クの名コンビをもっと見たい、と思うのですが・・・

日野 正式なシリ ー ズとしては、今回で一区切りになると思います。ただ、外伝的な作品でレイトンとル ー クが出てくる可能性はありますね。

おお、外伝ですか!

日野 『レイトン教授』シリ ー ズの流れを汲んだものは生み出そうとはしていますが、それが『レイトン教授』と付くものになるのか、まったく別の作品になるかはまだわかりません。物語を遊びながら、気軽にナゾを解いて遊べる、というゲ ー ム性は海外でも大きく支持されましたし、皆さんがまだまだ楽しみたいということであれば、何らかの形で継続していきたいと考えています。ただ、それがレイトンなのか、レイトンの息子なのか娘なのか、それともまったく違う人物の冒険になるかは、まだまだ考えている最中ですね。

レイトンの息子が主役の iOS 対応ゲ ー ム『レイトンブラザ ー ズ・ミステリ ー ルーム」のような作品もありますしね。ああいった形で、もしかして・・・!?

日野 僕もたくさんゲ ー ムを作ってきましたけど、やっぱり普通のことってしたくないんですよね。何か新しい「レイトン教授」を作るうえでも、「なんだとっ!?」ていう驚きの感じを常に出していきたいです。近いうちにそんな『レイトン教授」か発表できるといいなとは思います。

レミやデスコールなど、今回別れたキャラクターたちとも再会できるといいですね!

日野 今後も同じ世界観でいく場合は、そういったキャラクタ ー たちも出てくるでしようね。レイトンたちが暮らしている世界のことを、僕らは「異世界ロンドン」と呼んでいるんですけど、一本の筋の通った世界観になっていますから、それを使ってまた新しいものを生み出すのはアリなのかなと思っています。

I am so happy to be done with my piano practical! I think I did fairly well. I do know that I messed up slightly on my technical tests. I had to start over on one of them. As in, how does one mess up a chromatic scale!? Somehow, I managed to. I think my fingers were trying to fly too quickly, and I skipped a note, and the rest is thankfully history. The other one that I didn't start over but had a pause on was the leading tone diminished 7th arpeggio in which my silly fingers wanted to play a dominant 7th but I caught it so I didn't have to start over. I know I'll lose points for those two for sure, but other than that, my ear tests went well. Thank you to my teacher who is constantly doing ear training with me! My sight reading was a bit slower than it should have been for the set tempo, but other than that, I played the selection well and didn't stumble through it since it was quite simple. Sight reading makes me nervous for some reason.

However, the best part of the test was repertoire. I was so happy with my nocturne! It was Nocturne in E Flat Major, Op. 9, No. 2 by Chopin, and it is one of my favorite pieces that I have learned to date. I've always liked the piece so prepping it for my practical, it was my number one immediate pick that I didn't even need to think about when I saw it on the list.

Part 2 anyone?

Visiting her grandfather at work had always been one of Y/N’s favourite pastimes. He always had something funny to show them or something nice (and tasty) to give them. Dr. Loomis, or ‘G’andad’ as she preferred to call him, had always been there for her through the entire seven years that she had been alive. Despite being overloaded with work from his latest case – a child who murdered his sister in cold blood – he always made sure he took breaks when Y/N came to visit, she was, after all, his only grandchild.

“G’andad!” Y/N yelled with a joyous laugh as she spotted Loomis in the distance of the reception, talking to another nurse, despite her not knowing what they were doing or talking about.

Sam turned around upon hearing her voice, a big smile on his face as he kneeled, arms open ready for her to jump into which she gladly did with a smile that mirrored his, if not wider. The nurse, who was yet to say anything, stood there with a soft smile, admiring them before bidding the Doctor a goodbye and leaving to attend to her duties around the psychiatric unit.

“Hello, Y/N,” Dr. Loomis said, picking the young girl up as he lifted himself to his feet. She snuggled into his chest, using the brown coat as a blanket of sorts. “What should we do today?” He asked her, signalling to the receptionist to let her know that he was taking his break to which they simply nodded, watching as he headed to his office, an unexpected big smile plastered on his lips.

The office, whilst boring, was Y/N’s favourite place in the entire building – one which she believed to be a typical hospital, not a psychiatric one and Sam didn’t have the heart to tell her the truth, even if he wanted to. She cheered as the door closed behind them and she realised where she was. As he set her down on the ground, Y/N rushed towards the brown leather chair situated behind the wooden desk, hopping into the comfort of the seat with a satisfied sigh.

“Don’t you be falling asleep on me!” Loomis jokingly warned her, smiling to himself as she giggled.

The doctor himself reached towards the top drawer in his shelf, opening it to grab a small pack of her favourite sweets, one that he didn’t even know the name on, just the look of the packaging. The noise of the wrapper caught Y/N’s attention immediately and she held her hands out in anticipation before saying a desperate ‘pleeeeease’ to which he simply chuckled and passed her the candy. She didn’t open it immediately, however, telling Sam about how she needed to save them, or something of the sort, he couldn’t exactly remember what she had said.

It was a sweet sight for him to see his granddaughter so happy whilst sat in his chair with a bag of sweets in hand, but nothing lasts forever, and a sigh left his lips as he was paged to go see one of his patients who had no doubt hurt themselves or somebody else.

“Stay there, I won’t be long,” were his final words before he rushed off to find out what his patient had done.

It wasn’t long until Y/N grew bored of waiting for her grandfather and decided to go explore the hospital; the worst she could see was someone sick, at least in her mind, and so she climbed off of the comfortable chair and headed outside of the unlocked office, venturing out into the first room she could find which just so happened to be the canteen.

Much to her dismay, there was nobody her age, in fact, the only person close to her age was a few years older than her, probably around nine or ten, not that it mattered to her, of course, she was just happy that the room wasn’t filled with adults.

The boy, whose name Y/N didn’t know, was seated alone at a table in the corner of the room, a plate of some gross-looking food in front of him which he didn’t seem too very fond of eating. Pity grew on her and she found herself rushing over to the table and taking a seat opposite him.

“Hi!” She grinned at the boy who simply spared her a threatening look, one which did not deter her. “I’m Y/N, what’s your name?”

The boy seemed to think for a moment before spotting the sweets in her hand and decided to speak for the first time in forever. “Michael.”

“It’s nice to meet you, Michael” Would you like a sweet?” Without hesitation, Y/N ripped open the bag of sweets and offered him one from the pack, something he gladly took; food there wasn’t exactly the best, to say the least.

Her smile towards him never faded, it only grew, even if she was the only one speaking. She didn’t mind being the only one talking, Sam had taught her that not everyone is a chatterbox like her, something which she had giggled at.

A bell rang, signalling that the patients must return to their rooms and with one final ‘goodbye’, Michael left Y/N behind who was quick to return to Sam’s office, acting as though she had never left. She wasn’t stupid, she knew that she would get in trouble for leaving, especially if she had been talking to strangers, but something about him felt different; not only was he around her age, but there was something different about him to other kids she knew and all she knew was that she was desperate to see him again.

The next time Y/N saw Michael was a week after their first encounter. She had brought two bags of sweets: one for her and one for Michael if she was to see him. A giddy smile was on her face as she entered to hospital, only this time it was for a different reason; she was excited to see Michael again.

It didn’t take long for her to pass Michael, in fact, it was on the way in and she smiled at him, discreetly handing him a bag of sweets as he walked past her, one which he took and hid without making it obvious to the others around them. Their interaction had her smiling for the rest of the day.

Y/N began visiting her grandfather more and more often throughout the weeks, eventually leading to her seeing him at work every day, even while he was working. However, little did he know that her visits weren’t for him, but for Michael. Loomis had never noticed how she would disappear from his office whilst he was working or how she would bring an extra bag of sweets or a little gift for his killer patient.  Each visit and interaction with Michael had her becoming happier and more attached to the boy and she would constantly be planning her next visit and what she would bring for him. Whilst he didn’t talk to her, not often anyway, she didn’t mind speaking for them both, something Michael himself was oddly grateful for considering most peoples got frustrated that he didn’t speak and it was annoying, yet Y/N was never bothered.

“Hi, Michael!” She greeted the boy with her usual smile, earning an almost unnoticeable nod from him. “I brought you a gift.” Y/N reached out to hand him the usual bag of sweets, but there was something else in her hand: a friendship bracelet. It wasn’t that she expected him to take it, she had learned that he wasn’t the biggest fan of people and friendships, but she decided to make him one anyway, just in case he would take it and, to her surprise, he did. He slipped the threaded bracelet over his wrist, tightening it and giving her a small smile before digging into his sweets.

The pair sat in a comfortable silence for a while, before Y/N heard the name of her grandfather being called and caught a glimpse of his coat through the window. In a moment of panic, she ducked beneath the table, landing on the floor beside Michael’s feet. Despite the pain, she knew it had to be done; Loomis could never find out about their friendship, he would go berserk and forbid her from seeing her new friend. 

Michael didn’t even spare her a glance, presumably knowing what was going on, which made it even less obvious what had just happened and it wasn’t exactly like any of the other patients were going to snitch on her; they were too sick to notice, Y/N assumed, still unaware of why Michael and the others were in the hospital and she had never asked, not that she would get a response, of course. It was Michael, after all. She had no idea and both Loomis and Michael prayed that she never would; she was too innocent to be involved with all of this, it was the one thing that they both agreed on.

It wasn’t difficult for Michael to guess her involvement with his doctor. She was young and he was old, so clearly a grandparent. Surprisingly enough, he didn’t care, she was the first person in a long time to show him genuine kindness and not treat him like the monster that most believe him to be. She was the first genuinely kind soul in his life, and he didn’t want to lose that, despite not admitting that to himself just yet.

“Is he gone?” The whisper from her caught Michael’s attention who simply nodded once he was certain that Loomis had left. He almost laughed at the mess of her hair when she popped back up, but he didn’t. “Phew! That was close. I should go, but I’ll see you again soon! Bye, Michael.”

Little did they both know, they would never see each other again in this world.

Y/N had no idea how long she had been in the entity’s realm, but each day felt like torture. Despite this, she had still made some good friends along the way, befriending each new survivor around the campfire with ease; her kindness never left. Laurie, the latest survivor, was detailing her past encounters with a man name Michael yet Y/N wasn’t entirely listening, too caught up in her memories of her past friend. She wishes she could have just said goodbye to him, given him a hug, anything that meant he wouldn’t believe that she had just abandoned him.

“Are you okay, Y/N?” Meg whispered to the woman beside her, noticing her lost in her thoughts.

“Yeah,” came her simple response.

Meg, who decided to leave her to her thoughts, turned her attention back to Laurie who was still telling the group stories from her past.

Being summoned to a trial was the last thing Y/N wanted whilst she was attempting to rest and clear her mind from her previous thoughts about her past friend. Of course, there was nothing she could do about this besides sigh to herself as she began rushing around Haddonfield, unaware of the gaze following her every move.

With three survivors sacrificed, Y/N was the only one left whilst also being unharmed which was a shock to her considering how brutal and talented the new killer, who she hadn’t seen at all throughout the trial, was.

As she ventured around the new map in search for hatch, Y/N almost screamed as she ran into the killer. Cursing herself, the girl took a step back, looking up to see the killer whose name she didn’t even know.

Rather than try to run, Y/N simply offered the masked man a smile. “Hi, I’m Y/N.”

The killer froze for a moment, before turning around and signalling for her to follow him for some unknown reason, yet she did so anyway.

Their walk was silent, the only noise being her panting and the masked mans breaths. Y/N still had no idea what was going on until she stumbled into the mans stopped body right in front of the hatch. The eyes behind his mask held some familiarity to Y/N, yet she couldn’t quite place it until she heard the man say his name as she jumped into the hatch.

“Michael.”
