How do you think the clones would react to learning about Anakin seeing Palpetine since he was a kid?
Because I can either see “This seems logical and even though it feels wrong I’m sure it’s fine” (it was not fine) or “General…wtf man. Like I’m sorry but are Jedi, like, deathly allergic to red flags and common sense? Because I feel like that’s what I’m getting from this”
Either way I just keeping thinking about it and about that one comic where Sheeve peeve threatens the Jedi to have Anakin see him when he was like, what? 12? And then takes him to a bar in the lower levels to just be like “Yeah so there is slavery here too! But don’t worry I will keep promising to fix this for the next few years and then never do anything about it”
oooh I think it really depends on the clone! Like I think there are plenty who are going to be like "hmm feels weird but also I am a child soldier I have no baseline for what's normal and what's not, plus this is the Chancellor of the Republic we pledge our lives too! It's probably fine." (I think the big stickler for them would be if they found out that Palpatine demanded essentially that it be without Obi-Wan there and that's when they start getting weird about it.)
I do think that there are some with stronger personalities that would make a lot of jokes about how weird it is, but in general idk as much as I wish someone had noticed how weird shit was, from the outside it sort of? Looks like a normal mentorship thing? (key word here being sort of lol)
Honestly I'm ngl I don't actually think that the Corries are treated super shittily by Palps or the Senators (not that they are treated well but I don't think they are being killed left and right) HOWEVER I do think if anyone was gonna be like, "damn their friendship is a little weird - wait palpatine has been having private meetings with him for HOW LONG?" it would be the corries who spend the most time with palpatine and see his two sidedness much more directly than anyone else does imo
THAT COMIC THOUGH it makes me want to gnaw through wood for a lot of reasons... the fact Mace and Obi-Wan were wary and tried to stop it but in the end were forced to be like well we'll see where this goes.... also just I think about that comic so much cause you see so many early seeds of how Palpatine has manipulated his thinking and values! Palpatine ofc wants to fix things but he can't bc of the senate!! It would be better if only one person was in control of everything then things would get done!! Very evil, very devious, I want to swaddle Padawan Anakin in a blanket

Palpatine: My boy, I'm afraid to report that Master Kenobi is very likely sleeping with your wife.
Anakin, who knows for a fact that Obi-Wan is sleeping with his Commander, a good chunk of Ghost company, the Organas and Quinlan Vos: ...where is he finding the fucking time???
Palpatine, oblivious: Oh I've heard from some very reliable sources that-
Anakin: *pulls out a spexcel spreadsheet, the 3rd System Army's shared spoogle calender and a calculator*
Anakin: Your Excellency. That's just. not logistically possible.

Sometimes I sit down and realise how little we actually know about the clones in Canon and how much we just made up and decided was cannon.
Like the clone have never actually spoke Mando'a, Fives and Echo aren't really twins, Torrent never officially adopted Ahsoka into their aliit, Kote isn't really Cody's name, we know next to nothing about Fox and the Corries. I mean there isn't even a command batch, we don't actually know if Ponds, Cody, Wolffe, Bly and Fox were batchers that adopted Rex on Komino to save him from the long necks and Alpha-17 just had to live with it.
It's wild how much of what most people consider cannon was made up by fans, and it's amazing.

Institutionalist
“Vader,” Palpatine said, his voice touched with silky menace. “What are you doing?”
“I am facilitating politics, my master,” Vader replied.
Palpatine looked at him, then up at the large poster Vader had just finished affixing to the wall of the Senate Chamber.
REMEMBER TO VOTE FOR THE NEXT EMPEROR, it said. REPORT ANY VOTER INTIMIDATION WHATSOEVER TO DARTH VADER, AND HE WILL KILL THE PERSON DOING IT.
“...you don’t think that’s a little paradoxical?” he asked.
“I am not telling people who to vote for,” Vader replied. “I am attempting to make sure the Senate vote is fair and free.”
“Vader…” Palpatine said, slowly. “I am the Emperor. The Senate is irrelevant.”
“You said the Jedi were a threat to the Republic,” Vader pointed out, in reply. “The Separatist Crisis is over. The Jedi are scattered and unable to intervene. It has been enough time that there should now be a new election. For Emperor.”
“That is not the law any more!” Palpatine retorted.
“Why not?” Vader asked. “Meaningful elections are important. Padme said so.”
Palpatine bit back his next reply, seething faintly.
Vader was usually easy to manipulate, but every so often one of those ideas about Padme got stuck in his head and he went from easy to utterly impossible. On that subject, he was immovable.
“Then… why the poster?” he asked.
“The vote should be fair and free,” Vader reiterated. “I will prevent voter intimidation.”
“...huh,” Bail said, a week later. “How did that happen?”
He was looking at the election results, which showed that seventy-four percent of the Senate had voted for him to be the next Emperor.
“I suspect Darth Vader was involved,” Mon replied. “His men ran an exhaustive investigation of the whole Senate over the last few weeks, then he killed everyone who’d taken their post through bribery or through falsified results.”
Bail clicked through to the details of the report, and winced.
The number of people who’d voted for him was about what he’d expected, the Senators who he could count on. The number of people who’d voted against him was… drastically smaller.
Then the door opened with a crash.
“Emperor,” Vader said. “It is time for you to take your position. The previous incumbent of your position was unwilling to vacate his post when the election results came in, but he has been dealt with.”
Bail blinked.
“...you killed Palpatine?” he asked.
“That is a good question,” Vader replied, somewhat quizzically. “I don’t know if it was my lightsaber or something else, but he has exploded and so he is certainly dead whether or not I was the one to kill him. I do not believe it is tradition, though.”
The Alderaanian senator swallowed, trying to hide his nerves.
“Are you going to kill everyone who looks at me funny?” he asked.
“No,” Vader replied. “Though I will kill anyone who tries to assassinate you. That is tradition.”
Mon and Bail exchanged glances.
“...would you actually have a problem if I tried to make things better for the galaxy?” Bail asked.
“You won the election,” Vader said, firmly, and apparently that was all that mattered.
