November 4, 1903, Flag and National Symbols Day. 🇵🇦😃
Panama's flag was designed by Manuel E. Amador, the first president from Panama, and sewn by his wife, María Ossa de Amador.
The flag consists of four quarters of colors: white, red, and blue.
The white symbolizes the peace achieved through the peaceful union of the historical parties, with the Liberal party represented by red and the Conservative party represented by blue.
The upper-left white quarter features a blue star, representing the purity and honesty of the nation, and the lower-right white quarter has a red star, symbolizing authority and law.

An attempt at OC handwriting.
[ID: Writing done by Eero Salumäe, Lowell Salumäe, Theta Athanasoulas, Hailey O'Connor, and Seadán. Everyone has written their names and an example sentence in cursive and print, except for Theta, who gave up half way through his last name in cursive because they prefer to write in print, and Seadán, who wrote only their name in print. The writing examples include numbers 0 through 9, and the panagram "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog." Standing out in particular is Eero's cursive handwriting, which is hard to read, and Lowell's, which is excessively flourished with heart shapes in letters. End ID.]

Book review: Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn
Ella Minnow Pea is undoubtedly a novel worthy of modern classic status. Its unique premise, political and religious undertones, and simplistic yet evidently deeply thought-through prose feel reminiscent of many other classics of the past century, and I am certain Dunn's work here will be revered and studied for years to come. Ella Minnow Pea is an epistolary novel told through the communications of the residents of fictitious island Nollop, named after the fictional deceased Nevin Nollop. Nollop penned the panagram 'the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog', a sentence containing all of the letters of the English alphabet. The island has a memorial to Nollop, with each of the letters of the sentence inscribed on tiles. When the tiles begin to fall, one by one, the totalitarian High Council of Nollop deem it Nollop's wish from beyond the grave that the islanders cease using the letters as they fall. The letters one by one become outlawed, their verbal or written use punishable by banishment. The titular character, Ella Minnow Pea (a clever nod to the heavy linguistic themes of the novel), is an 18-year-old girl living on Nollop, and through her letters to and from family and other inhabitants of the island, we see the growing insanity of the High Council pressing desperation onto its people as communication becomes more and more challenging. The atmosphere of the book feels increasingly claustrophobic as it progresses, with every character becoming more and more isolated from those around them. This is not only due to limitations in basic communication, but also the fear of neighbour turning on neighbour and reporting infractions in private conversations. The society of Nollop feels very Orwellian as it begins to unravel into fearful chaos, bringing the theme of totalitarianism into stark focus. The interpretation of the tiles falling as Nollop's post-humous wishes for the island is also reminiscent of a theocracy, as the citizens are not allowed to question the interpretation of the High Council, or propose alternatives; in this highly subjective set of circumstances, they are told there is a stark right and wrong, despite lacking any evidence.
Ella Minnow Pea is about many things, but I feel it is ultimately a novel about the importance of self-expression through language, and the connections to others this provides us with. It is about discovering what is important to you, and fighting for it even when nobody else is able to. It is about knowing when to fight authority for the good of the people you care about. It is a novel full of tortuous hope, and one which will stay with me for a long time.
