life as an econ major: first impression
17.09.23
so here's the thing, the school year starts tomorrow but i still don't have my exam results... so am i actually gonna start my masters this year? who knows. i guess we'll find out tomorrow.
but the info session for this program took place on friday so i went despite the fact that i still don't have my results. and here's how it went.
so first we had a big info session for all the masters programs at the economics and management faculty. and there are like 5 different programs, we were about 50-60 people id say. the session was quite boring bc it was mostly for people who are new to the university overall. so they just like explained all the administrative stuff like how to sign up for courses, what moodle is, etc. so i didn't learn anything new. and i looked around to see what kind of people study economics and management. and i really felt out of place. idk, maybe it's my "not like other girls" syndrome or idk what. but i really felt like i didn't belong. contrary to what id imagined, it was mostly women. mostly my age and older. a couple of people in their 30s-40s too. but mostly like yeah, girlies in their mid to late twenties. dressed in skinny jeans. and michael kors bags. all with straight or straightened hair. the vibe was very much french, no offense... and the few guys who were there were also very french. like skinny jeans and hair that's like shaved on the sides. it was giving tiktok fuckboys circa 2020.
then we were split up into our different master programs. and our group only had 11 people. 3 guys, 8 girls. mostly foreign and like half poc. so there was me, a girl who just moved from spain who worked for this like eu organisation in paris, an indian girl who did econometrics and maths, a hijabi girl and a moroccan (?) girl who both did their bachelors here, a guy who just moved from lebanon, an asian girl who did international relations here, a girl who's doing a second masters, and a guy i went to hs with who studied in exeter. and that was quite awkward cos he came up to me like "heyyy you went to [school name], right?" and i was like ummmm who are you. and he was like "yeahh we had german and maths together". and i had no idea who he was. and then he said his name and that also didn't ring a bell at all. i was like bro i am so sorry.
so yeah, the head professor explained how the program works, like how many credits you need, what classes to take, etc. he was very cool and i started to get more enthusiastic about doing this actually.
and then we all had drinks in the main hall and i talked to the spanish girl, the 2nd masters girl and the high school guy.
and yesterday i looked at my schedule and registered for each of the courses on moodle. and... had a mental breakdown...
because it sounds like my worst nightmare.
first of all, im gonna have to write essays. i haven't written an essay since high school. i don't know how to cite. i don't know how to read either tbh. like how do i read a paper about economics?? i don't know what any of it means.
i looked at the syllabus for every course. and none of it makes sense. i don't even believe in inflation. like isn't inflation a deviantart fetish? and wtf is gdp. like.
secondly, 60% of the grade for these courses is group projects. again, i haven't done a group project since high school. it terrifies me. like. the responsibility of working with people. is terrifying. and you have to make a powerpoint presentation and write a paper. in a group! like.... how???? i don't know how to do either of these things.
and for the elective courses i was like okay im gonna pick the maths ones bc there's no way in hell that im gonna choose to write even more essays. but! the maths electives that i have are all programming! i don't know how to code! you need to know python! and like how to do like time projections and shit. ive only done matrix multiplication on matlab in like the first semester of my bachelors. i fucking hate computers and matlab was hell, i didnt undertand any of it, it was my worst grade. so how am i gonna do python?
another thing that sounds like absolute hell is coursework. in maths it was easy. you go to class (or don't, up to you!) and you have an exam at the end of the year and that's your grade. but here you have papers to hand in every week. and graded homework. and presentations. my lazy ass is actually gonna have to work throughout the year. i thought about it yesterday and cried.
anyway, studying economics sounds like a neurodivergent nightmare.
and okay i thought id stop there but!!! the topics that im gonna have to write papers on... y'alll.... i don't give a shit about the economic impact of russian sanctions like
Tumblr media
how do i give a shit ????
and i looked at the first problem set and at first i was like oooo maths! looks familiar! but the thing is, i can't read. like whenever i see a word problem my brain just makes the internet dial up noise. wtf does this mean???
Tumblr media
i showed it to my stepdad and he was like "huh that's easy, that's just cross multiplication". and guys. you don't understand. but i don't know how to do percentages. i don't know how to solve first degree diff equations. i can't do basic maths. i can only prove theorems on abstract topics and that's it. 2+2 i don't know her. what the fuck is a growth rate. like. i can't read.
fuck. i am so stressed.

The Expanding Role of India in the Global Paper Bag Market
Tumblr media
Paper bags are an increasingly essential product used for various purposes, including gift wrapping, party favors, food packaging, and both retail and industrial packaging. As a sustainable alternative to plastic, paper bags have gained immense popularity worldwide, driven by a global movement towards eco-friendly choices. India, in particular, has emerged as a significant player in the paper bag industry, meeting both domestic and international demand.
This article delves into the factors behind the rising demand for paper bags, the production landscape in India, key export data, and India's position among the world’s top paper bag exporters.
Why Paper Bags Are in High Demand
The global demand for paper bags is anticipated to grow by 4.22% between 2024 and 2032, reaching a projected market value of $8.4 billion. This rising demand for paper bags is driven by several key factors:
Environmental Awareness: Consumers are increasingly seeking alternatives to plastic due to growing environmental concerns. Paper bags, being biodegradable and renewable, are seen as a preferred option.
Government Regulations: Many governments are enforcing regulations to reduce single-use plastics, promoting the shift to paper-based packaging.
Retail Growth: With the expansion of the retail industry, paper bags have become a staple in packaging for a wide array of products.
Advances in Production: Innovations in paper bag production technology have led to higher quality and increased efficiency, making them more accessible and affordable.
India’s Role in the Paper Bag Industry
India’s paper bag market reached a value of $727.4 million in 2023 and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.4%, potentially reaching $1.08 billion by 2032. Here are the major factors contributing to India’s prominence in paper bag production and export:
High Production Capacity: India produced approximately 3.5 billion paper bags in 2023 alone. With a 12.7 million metric tons production capacity, the country ranks 15th globally in paper bag production.
Regional Production Hubs: Over 750 paper mills are located across states like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and West Bengal. Other major contributors include Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, which have emerged as notable hubs in India’s paper bag manufacturing sector.
India’s Paper Bag Export Market (2023-24)
India’s paper bag exports saw significant growth in recent years. From March 2023 to February 2024, India exported 37,289 shipments of paper bags, marking a 50% increase from the previous 12 months. In February 2024 alone, there were 3,036 export shipments. The United States, United Kingdom, and United Arab Emirates are the primary destinations for Indian paper bag exports.
In the fiscal year 2023, paper bag export from India were valued at approximately $3.04 billion, reflecting the country’s expanding role in the global market.
Key Paper Bag HS Codes for Export
In the world of exports, Harmonized System (HS) codes play a crucial role in identifying and classifying goods. Here are some prominent HS codes associated with paper bags:
4819 – This code covers various packaging containers made from paper, paperboard, cellulose wadding, or webs of cellulose.
48193000 – Sacks and bags with a base width of 40 cm or more.
48194000 – Other types of sacks and bags, including cones.
4707 – Recovered waste and scrap paper or paperboard, used in recycling and manufacturing.
For traders and exporters, understanding HS codes is essential for effective global trade.

Berlin Marathon 2023
Oh baby was this trip a lot of traveling and not a lot of seeing. From my first flight, as noted in my last post, this trip was not meant to be. It started with a 3 hour delay on my layover in Denver. Once at the airport, I found out I had typed my name into my itinerary wrong so it did not match my passport. An error I had to work through four separate times. Then we reached out gate to find out our seats are not the ones we paid extra for. I didn’t sleep a minute on the overnight flight. We arrived in Dublin with only 90 minutes until our next flight took off. If you have never traveled to Europe before, once you arrive you have to get your checked luggage and then make your way through immigration, bag check, security, the whole thing. On paper, Dublin looked like a small two terminal airport. First it took us almost an hour to get our bags. Then we were sent up and down and back up to find the walk way to the other terminal where our next flight would leave out of. Side note, in Europe apparently there is floors 0, 1, 2 etc… so when we were directed to floor 1 and went to the bottom floor, we were stared at in confusion why we did not understand where floor 1 actually was. By the time we walked (because there is no other way, as we were told) to the ticketing counter, our flight was set to leave in 5 minutes. When was the next flight? 10 hours later. I was so exhausted and irritated at this point I feared that if we set out to see Ireland something else would happen and we’d miss the new connecting flight. After many hours attempting to fall asleep to no success we boarded and landed in Berlin. The train would take an hour and it was now midnight. I sucked it up and got an Uber. (If you know me, you know I am not an Uber/Lyft person) We finally got to our hotel. I was emailed instructions to input a code next to the door and a key would be available. But was it? You bet it wasn’t. I googled how to call a European number from an American phone after multiple failed attempts. Within five minutes a lovely gentlemen let us in and provided me with my key. After almost exactly 24 hours of travel and being awake for 32 hours, we went to sleep. And you bet you a3s I did not set an alarm. Which ended up being both bad and good because we caught up on our sleep, but we slept until 2:30 in the afternoon the following day. Thanks to terrible travel plans, we lost a day and a half in Berlin.
Now that I’m done throwing a pity party I won’t go into more detail but in short
we attempted to find a bus tour for over an hour to find out that they were not running due to the marathon route closing streets
we got on said bus tour two days later and it was nothing special
we did think to purchase tour tickets ahead of time so we saw zero things we had hoped to see
another ticket hiccup, the train was now double the price to get to Munich and we didn’t end up saving anything by not flying out of Munich
we had planned to see one or two more things in Berlin our last night but the train back from Munich took over an hour more and dumped us out at the farthest train station from our hotel
the hotel ordering our taxi a half hour early and the driver refusing to leave because his fair had been running the morning we were departing
the cherry on top was just after I called my dad to tell him where to pick us up, I reached into my backpack only for the shot glass I bought him to fall and shatter
Ugh okay. Enough wallowing. This is meant to be a race recap. The moral of the story - plan plan plan before you travel to Europe or you’ll go all the way there and not see anything like dummy me. So, the race. Talk about the brightest shining moment of this whole trip. (I wrote a quick training recap in my last post if interested) I snuck in my tune up workout back on my hs track between gym classes before we departed NJ. I clipped off a bit faster than goal MP but felt good and in a rhythm. Luckily I had an off day planned for our never ending day of travel. Once we finally woke up on Friday I headed out for a short run along the Spree. I went through the neighborhood our hotel was in and passed this adorable Jungle Book themed playground. The trail was this wonderful dirt path that went through a park. I was tired and moving however fast my legs let me. It felt good to move and stretch afterwards. We headed to the expo in the late afternoon. Talk about the coolest venue, Berlin’s expo takes place at the Tempelhof airport which was used after WW2 by the US to deliver goods when Berlin was split by the wall. The parts of the expo were outside and it backed up to a park where there were people running, skating, and riding bikes. Inside was your typical assortment of vendors. We finally shared our first meal in Berlin at the multiple food trucks that had there. The next day I had a quick 20 minute run back on the Spree followed by a few strides. I smile now reflecting that I didn’t want the run to be so short. I wanted to keep running. I had enjoyed this build so much that I didn’t want it to end. The legs felt about the same, I was physically a bit more tired but ready for tomorrow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I slept for a bit the night before after struggling to sleep the prior night due to jet lag. Waking up the morning of the race wasn’t too bad. With a 9:15a start time, I only needed to wake up at 6 to eat. I hoped on the subway to head down a few stops. I laughed at the reaction of the local young girls on the subway as a swarm of short shorts wearing, bright colored, awkward runner types all got on the subway at the same time. I followed the crowd off and towards the start. It was a bit of a walk but the weather was perfect and I saw the only corgi witnessed on this trip. I knew it would be a good day after I saw that loaf of bread. The holding area was huge. Bib numbers were given based on your last name so my bag drop was the furthest spot away from the actual start. I sat for a bit, wrote 5k splits on my hands in eyeliner and a special name on my wrist to remember how this trip was possible. Luckily enough I saw a friend of mine. She had gotten in via the lottery and her husband by time. We spent a few minutes catching up before we all needed to drop our bags. The race was encouraging 20 minutes to walk to the start. Here is where the mayhem began.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The start/finish is within this large park in the middle of the city, the Tiergarten. There were plenty of signs directing everyone to their respective start corral which was noted by letters. You followed winding dirt paths with the masses. When I got closer to the ABC start areas I noticed a small green space people were warming up in, so I did the same. After I continued to follow the masses. I could physically see the start area but the path went directing into 3 very long lines of people at portapots. People had now started to cut through the brush and trees of the park to find a way around. Which then turned into people scaling the very tall fences along the start area. A handful of other people found an opening in the fence but this still required us to climb up and over a shorter barrier. Not exactly what I want to do minutes before starting a marathon but here I was. After that debacle I found space within the B corral, did some leg swings and waited. A shared a brief moment with a girl maybe a bit younger than me on my ‘Running On Hope’ tattoo and how wonderful a person Gabe was and the organization is. The 10 minutes I had passed very quickly. They announced some of the elites, including the goat himself Eliud and gosh did the crowd of us go crazy. Then, we were off.
It took me around two minutes to actually cross the start. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of space I had right off the line in the roads. We were spread on both sides of the median which then split us around the beautiful Victory Column statue. Actually the entire race had plenty of room across the roads. I never felt stuck. As for the specifics of the race course itself, I honestly don’t have much memory. It was flat. And not oh my legs hurt after a while because there’s not change in terrain, because there was small ‘hills’ that I wouldn’t call hills but they were so subtle I didn’t know until I went down the back side and my legs felt better. There were a lot of turns in this course. A LOT. Hence why I don’t remember much. The spectators lined the entire course. I was pleasantly surprised that a lot of people also cheered for you by name (which was on my bib). At first I thought it was my mom encouraging people around her but then it kept happening. My favorite was when one little kid would yell my name and then their whole group would follow. I took some opportunities to high five some kids as well.
I was able to hit pace right at the start. After a few miles this did start to feel fast. I chocked it up to it being a bad patch and kept pressing forward. I came through my 5k slower than desired but found myself right back on pace by 10k. Just before 9 miles my watch started to act wonky. When looking down to see how close I was to getting my gel out, I saw I had split a 5:14 ninth mile…which I have never run once in my life. Mile 12, was a 1:38 mile. I was now flying blind for the rest of the race, I didn’t know if I could trust the gps. The 5k splits on my hand were started to wash off with my sweat so I made my best guesses based on what I knew my initial 5k goal was. At half way I still felt as though I was running too fast. I told myself keep pushing at this pace until 16 than see what happens. 16 came and went and I kept plugging away. This course only had Maurten as their electrolyte drink. The first aid station that had this, I grabbed one, took a few sips and hated it. Not long after that my stomach agreed, it hated it too. I stuck to water at every other aid station after that. I remembered I had drank to much in Duluth so I tried to space out my fluids. I was taking Ucan gels every 4.5 miles and those don’t require water to digest, so pairing my intakes was not an issue either. But after those first 16 miles, my stomach started to feel a bit off. I was able to take down my forth gel at 18 but my nausea now persisted. In fact, it only got worse as the miles clicked by.
I started to do some mental math, where did I need to be with 10k and 5k to go to still be under three hours? and was this still in the cards today? It wasn’t a do or die time goal as it had been before, but it would be nice and I knew I had it in me. I was looking for the 32k sign and it never came. Looking at my watch, I was behind where I needed to be. Oh well I thought, let’s enjoy the rest of the day as I knew I’d finish. But then the next k sign was in sight and it was the 33k sign. I was still on pace and in fact, ahead of pace. I believe I literally said “oh sh!t I’m still in it” out loud. I was taking it one k at a time. As much as I wanted water, I chose to not take in any, hoping that would calm my stomach a bit. But it didn’t. I was so nauseous. The thought of taking anything in made me feel worse. Just make it to 5k to go and reassess. Just as before I was looking for the 37k sign but I missed it again. I knew I had slowed so now being off pace would not have surprised me. But the 38th k appeared and I was still under! I disregarded my last gu. There was no chance I was risking throwing up when I was still on pace. But I continued to slow. More mental math. Where did I need to be with 2k to go and still have a chance? I’d give myself 10 minutes and push with everything I had in the last 1k. At 40 k I had 13 minutes to make it. I tried to push. The nausea increased. There was no getting rid of it. Just finish. I made the final turn and the Brandenburg Gate came into view. I stay far to the left and followed the blue line for the shortest route to the finish. I tried again to push. No go. My legs had the life but my stomach was running the show now. The distance from the gate to the finish felt like forever. I wasn’t sure I’d make it. (Also running under that gate was super cool) But I had overestimated. Next thing I knew I was right there and had two minutes to spare. Unlike Grandma’s I had the space to take it all in. My hands instantly went over my heart. I was going to do it again! With my hands in the air I crossed the line with weak, screaming legs. 2:58:55, a PB by 47 seconds.
Tumblr media
Oh the nausea. A few steps passed the finish, I wobbled and my hands found my knees. Holy crap did I want to throw up. I didn’t make it very far until I veered off to the side and was on all fours for quite some time. I have no clue how long I was there. After a few failed attempts to kneel upright, I walked a bit farther. I needed water. My mouth was stuck shut. I downed two glasses of water and my stomach yelled back. Gosh was I thirsty but it was so uncomfortable. I decided to sit in the sun and hope for some relief. Again, I have no clue how long I sat there but I was able to get another cup of water down. I had to make the long walk back to my bag. I had to take my medal off at this point. It was directly over my stomach, smacking it with every step. I got 3/4 of the way there and had to sit in the grass again. I let the sun start to warm my body and the stillness help digest whatever the heck was so pissed off inside me. Minutes passed and I took my time segmentally getting up. One more push to get my bag and find my mom. Naturally, as soon as I sat down at our meeting spot I looked up to see her sitting not far off from that spot. I stood to embrace her but instantly had to sit back down. I had nausea in Duluth but nothing like this. As we sat and recapped the past few hours, I tried to find positions that made me feel better. It took time but I was able to get to my feet.
I had heard that Tracksmith was in Berlin, stamping free posters with our finishing times. We made our way onto the subway and over to their space. To my surprise, olympic medalist Nick Willis was one of the people stamping posters. My nausea thankfully had subsided and I helped myself to a free beer as we planned our trip back to the room. By the time we got back to the room, it was 3pm. Now back on wifi I read the wonderful messages back from everyone in the states that were now awake. I called my dad to share in the ventures of the morning. We spent the rest of the day taking our time around a museum and at Checkpoint Charlie. I can’t even describe how wonderfully I slept that night.
Tumblr media
As mentioned in my previous post, I loved this build. On the train back to Berlin from Munich (of course we went down to Oktoberfest, duh) I found myself smiling and longing for the next one. I loved challenging myself in new ways. Again I was struck by nausea which slowed my second half. I was also at the mercy of a dysfunctional watch and no pacer. What does this tell me - I can most definitely go faster.
Tumblr media
I loved Berlin. Besides the mayhem that was getting to the starting line, everything about this race was wonderful. I loved Germany. I would 100% go back. Now I’ll take some downtime and build up for a half in late April. I’d like to train specifically for the half, which I’ve never done. I don’t have plans for a marathon for at least a year. I need to get more settled into life in Portland. I have 4 of my 6 Abbott WMM stars. Tokyo is the next one I’d like to do but is notoriously is hard to get into. If I don’t get into 2025, my next marathon wouldn’t be until summer 2025. Honestly, I’m not sure I can wait that long so who knows, maybe it will be sooner.

Hacketts Quarry summer love
Fluff
Rylan
2.2k words
Okay so i totally got this idea from this post!
I think it would be fun to try and challenge myself to write some bits and pieces i think would have happened to their relationship over the two month period!! So here i am..attempting that idea. It’s kinda in the form of multiple one-shots? However, it’s been a long time since i’ve written so if its horrible, i apologize profusely <3
Day One of Camp
Starting P.O.V: dylan
Dylans been on a cramped mini-van with the other counselors for about an hour or two now, Hes yet to learn all of their names yet, but two of the counselors stuck out to him. Ryan and Kaitlyn. They had a sort of enticing energy to them, the vibe where you could spend hours talking about how mysterious and interesting the two seemed; Kaitlyn had a very loud, spunky, and no cares given personality to her, whilst Ryan was a loner and rather vague dude.
Dylan looked around inside the mini-van as he soon realized that they were close to Hacketts Quarry, unplugging his headphones and turning the phone off to look out the windows at the scenery presenting itself before himself. The soft orange shimmer of the sun was beautifully illuminating the agricultural landscape, it was comforting to see the squirrels run across the bushes every now and than, to see all of the animals in the vast forest of Hacketts.
“ Wow..this is perfect!! ” a semi-loud voice yanked Dylan out of his daydreaming as he began to look around himself. Abigail, or Abi for short, was the one who broke the loud silence in the car; she grabbed her sketchbook out of her bag and started drawing away. Dylan decided to inch closer towards her and watch her etch away on the paper “ You know..you’re like..uh..Picasso! “ He said out loud, Dylan was trying to start a conversation, but with the snort and weird look she gave him..it’s a 50/50 chance on whether or not it was effective.
“ Alright counselors! We are here at THE Hacketts Quarry! “ Mr. Hs’ voice boomed and the van soon slowed to a stop infront of the lodge. Dylan waited his turn as everyone soon piled out of the van, the last one out before Dylan was Ryan. The pairs hands slightly grazed one another as they got out of the van, a rush of electricity bolted up Dylan’s body and he felt a hot blush rise to his face. This was the first time when Dylan could remember a deeper attraction developing on Ryan.
Tumblr media
Week 2 of camp
Starting P.O.V: Ryan
It’s been about two weeks since Ryan has been at camp. As Ryan begun to teach the younger kids and campers about sailing techniques. However, today was different, he had to do some of the scheduling plans with Dylan. The loner woke up early today, around 6:15 am, and got ready. The duo decided to meet up in the library today, however, it was mainly Dylan who coordinated the meetup, Ryan had expected an outdoor area so he was grateful Dylan had chosen a calm area. After a few minutes of walking around the camp, Ryan soon made it to the library and saw Dylan waiting for him. Dylan had a flower-style hairpin in his hair to hold his bangs back, a bunch of notebooks scattered around the table ,and some apple juice boxes. It was a sight to see.
“ Yo Dylan, ” Ryan said as he approached him, the tall boy smiled and leaned back in his chair. “ Wassup, big guy! ” Dylan responded with a cheerful grin, Ryan rolled his eyes and sat down next to him before grabbing his own schedule book out along with pens and other various items “ ..So we’re scheduling out this week’s sailing plans right? ” Ryan asked as he soon trailed off and admired Dylan’s colorful organization of notes, they were color-coded, sticker coded in a way, and everything had little bulletin points underneath to explain something further; the organization wasn’t just for schedules, but it also was for improvement ideas for certain areas of camp, activities for the kids, gift bags to be made at the end of the summer, and even every counselor/campers birthday so he remembered. Ryan was sure there was more to be found within the countless books, but- “ Ryan! ”
Oh. Right. Ryan snapped back into focus and looked at Dylan “ Yes? ” Dylan rolled his eyes and laughed, his hands came up to slightly cover his smile. It was the sweetest smile Ryan had ever seen. “ Okay, so the reason you are here with me today is so we can get that messy brain of yours under control ! ” As Dylan continued explained why Ryan needed to be organized, Ryan felt himself getting lost more and more in the taller boys big, beautiful brown eyes, he had light freckles dusting his cheeks. Ryan had never noticed that til today. Their knees slowly grew closer and closer over the time they spent as the pair made sure to schedule the “sailing” plans.

Week 4 of Camp
P.O.V: Dylan and Ryan
Two weeks after their last encounter, Mr.H had announced to Dylan to promote the swim party happening tomorrow. Of course, Dylan broadcasted the exciting event during the daily morning announcements, he explained all of the details and fun activities happening at the party. The campers were eager for the next day to come, they couldn’t wait and kept pestering Dylan about what food was going to be at the party if they could do a bonfire afterward, and even asked if they could roast marshmallows! Ryan soon picked up on the consistent questioning from the ecstatic kids, he quickly stepped in to try and ease the pressure from Dylan.
“ Hey, if you monsters don’t stop asking about the party I might have to cancel it. So head out to the lodge for lunch. “ Ryan quickly remarked in a teasing tone, instant whines and groans came from the campers as they scurried off into the lodge. Dylan stared at Ryan for a second before he reached and gently patted the boys shoulder, a bright smile resting on the taller boy’s face. “ Haha..thanks for the help!! Those kids can be SO persistent. “ Dylan thanked Ryan and began to retract his hand before running a few fingers in his own hair. “ They just can’t resist Dylan. “ Ryan glanced up at Dylan slightly and let out a short chuckle, he shook his head and walked away.
“ Yup. “As dylan watched Ryan walk away he felt a quick increase in the patter of his heart, did he really just make THE Ryan Ezrahler laugh and smile? He must dreaming!! Dylan laughed to himself and patted his hands against the sides of his legs, he felt a heat rising to his cheeks as he indulged more and more into the thought of Ryan. “ Dylan! “ Kaitlyns loud voice awoke Dylan out of his thoughts and he cleared his throat before looking over at her. “ Oh! Uhm, yes? “ Dylan said as he saw Kaitlyn shake her head before she started to tell Dylan that he needed to come into the lodge and eat.

Week 6 of camp
Starting P.O.V : Ryan
The morning was easy and slow enough, Ryan didn’t have any “classes” starting til around 11:30 so he decided to take it easy and listen to his new podcast obsession, Bizarre Yet Bonafide. As Ryan started his walk around the camp he came across Dylan’s small group of counselors (around 8 kids) Ryan wondered what they were doing out and about on the rocky road trail, the nature walks weren’t planned for another two days.
Deciding to end his pointless wondering, Ryan walked up to the group and stood off to the side as he listened to Dylan ramble on about how the group was going to surprise Abi with the sticks, rocks, and leaves for some sort of art activity. Listening to the taller boy talk with so much passion was a new perspective for Ryan, most of the time Dylan could be perceived as a quick, witty, smart-ass so seeing him take a more appreciative approach to something was a completely unexpected experience to witness. Eventually, Dylan realized Ryan standing off to the side of the group and stammered mid-sentence. “ And that’s why- oh! Uh, hi Ryan “ The words came out as a jam before Ryan interrupted him. “ I was just wondering what you were doing, but after 5 minutes of you talking. I think i got my answer “ Ryan’s words came out rude, but his tone was rather sweet in a way. “Oh yeah, that makes sense..” Dylan diverted his eyes away from Ryan’s and scratched the back of his neck in embarrassment.
“ Well if you want to join us you can? “ Dylan’s suggestion of joining the group surprised Ryan, he stood for a moment before shrugging and walking up closer to Dylan and the group. “ Sure, why the hell not? “ The words spoken by Ryan made the youngsters gasp and make various Ooos, Ahhs, and giggles, Dylan himself joined in on the teasing and he gently nudged Ryan. “ That goes against camp policy sir, watch the tongue! “
The teasing normally would have been slightly annoying to Ryan, but he didn’t feel any discomfort from the comments, just more of a warm fuzzy feeling. The group, now with a new member, finished their scavenger hunt for the gift to Abi and headed their way to the Art Cabin. Ryan and Dylan unlocked the door, made sure everyone made it in and they started to put together the gift basket of various leaves, rocks, sticks, and flowers. Once finished, Ryan took a step back with the kids and smiled softly “ Nice. “ he said quietly before turning around and giving all the kids high-fives for their hard work “ Go to the cafeteria, I’ll get you guys some juice boxes for your hard work “ Ryans offer made the kids smile and cheer in excitement as they piled out of the room and headed over to the cafeteria. Sighing in relief, Ryan turned to face Dylan and leaned against one of the desks slightly. “ We did awesome huh? “ Dylan asked Ryan with a shit-eating grin, Ryan tilted his head slightly and nodded in agreement. “ Yup. “

And that’s it!! I could write way more, but i feel like i’ve already gotten sort of ooc for these two. I enjoyed writing it a lot, there’s so much fluff opportunities for these two dorks so i love mixing the pot and making some!! Hope you enjoyed and leave any tips or criticisms in the comments <3

Bucky didn’t return that day. Or the next.
After cleaning up your puke and trying to wash him away from your skin, you spent the hours face down on the bed. You could smell him on the sheets and taste him in your own tears. You could feel the violence of his touch still. The searing along the flesh of your thigh and the ache deep in your core. It was worse than any pain you’d known before; he wasn’t just another nameless man. He was a monster you couldn’t forget. Or escape.
When at last, you stopped sobbing, you succumbed to the pit deepening in your stomach. You ate unsalted crackers and the last of the grapes from the crisper. You opened your notebook, then closed it, opened it again, then tossed it against the wall with a shriek.
Why write about what happened when it had never ended?
Another day passed. You weren’t lonely, but you weren’t relieved either. It didn’t matter when Bucky came, you knew he would, and you knew what would happen.
You stared out the window. It was dark again. You could see the spring peeking out through the mud. The snow that lingered was dirty and melting. The stars twinkled in the sky beyond the stretching branches of the trees that swayed in the night breeze. But all you could do was look; you couldn’t smell the damp or hear the birds as they returned from their winter sojourn or feel the subtle bite of the dwindling winter. You were like an animal in a cage, at the mercy of others pleasure but not to have your own.
You flinched as you heard the door beep. You turned slowly as it opened and pressed yourself to the tinted glass, your fingers curled around the sill. Bucky shut the door behind him, another shadow in the gloom. The lights flicked on and he planted his hand above the switch as he watched you.
You stared back, dumbfounded. As much as you expected him, the visit was a surprise. As much you had prepared yourself for the inevitability, the dread drowned you and left you speechless and paralysed. As much as you’d been through, you couldn’t handle anymore.
He dropped his hand to his belt and the noise of the buckle made your skin crawl. He approached the bed slowly, letting his fly gape open as he pulled his shirt over his head. Hs bared his broad chest, that wall of muscle you couldn’t break through, and dropped his shirt without regard. He nodded to the bed.
“Go on.” He eyed the hem of your cotton night shirt. You changed once since he’d left you. You had no one to dress up for, so you dressed for bed. You hesitated as you blinked at the duvet. “Sugar…” he warned, “Don’t make this difficult.”
“Why?” Your voice crackled in the tension. He pushed his jeans down, his excitement was visible against his briefs.
“Don’t act like you had no part in this,” he pointed to the bed. “You’re so desperate to be a victim.”
Your heart hammered in your ears. You neared the bed and pressed your knee to the edge. His fingers lingered on the elastic of his briefs.
“Don’t be stupid.” He hissed. “Naked.”
You pressed your tongue to the roof of your mouth. Don’t cry. That’s what he wanted and you’d done enough of that. You lifted your shirt slowly and let it fall. You rolled your panties down and ignored his movement as he stripped off his briefs. You got onto the bed and laid on your back, waiting for him.
He laughed darkly and snapped his fingers. “Over here,” he beckoned you with his index finger, “On your knees, turn around.”
You bit down and crawled to him. You spun so your back was to him and his hands gripped your shoulders. He squeezed and let out a long breath. He shoved you so you fell forward on your hands. He slapped your ass and you held in your yelp. You hung your head as his fingers danced at the top of your thighs.
He poked at your folds and you quivered. The cold metal pressed to your warmth and he forced his fingers roughly past your entrance, burying them to the knuckle. You clamped your lips shut as he pushed in and out of you several times. He growled in frustration and retracted his hand, lashing your ass once more.
“What’s wrong?” He snarled as he stepped closer and grabbed your hips. “Fucking dry as fuck.”
You closed your eyes as he angled his dick along your entrance and pulled you further back. His tip pressed against your entrance and you opened around him painfully as he forced your legs wider apart. You whimpered and arched your back to ease the intrusion but it still hurt. When he impaled you entirely, he held you there and wiggled his hips.
You hissed as he pulled back and thrust into you as hard as he could. His fingers sank into your flesh as he slammed you into him. The clap of flesh was deafening as he kept a steady motion, working your body against his. You clawed at the blankets and choked on the moans that threatened to rise.
Your body responded, slowly, though it was just as agonizing. You huffed as he sped up. His left hand slid up your back and he gripped the back of your neck. He shoved your head down to the mattress and hammered into you. The bed shook with you and his groans swirled around you.
You slapped at the bed as he ignored your murmured pleas. You bared your teeth and grunted through the pain until he stopped. Until those last, long, stuttered, sharp thrusts left you breathless and weak. He pushed you off of him and your legs went lip as you fell prone across the mattress. His cum trickled down your thigh and he pinched your ass cruelly.
You kicked at him and he caught your ankle. He took your other leg and flipped you over harshly. He squeezed and his raw strength threatened to snap a bone. You stared at him defiantly and pushed yourself up to look him in the eye.
“Do it.” You sneered. “You’ll have to break me before I’ll ever want you.”
His eyes glimmered dangerously and he dropped your legs. He turned and stomped to the door, still naked, and keyed in the code. The door slammed and he left you in silence. You stared, expecting him to return shortly, but he didn’t.
You sat until you were certain he wouldn’t, though really, you could be sure. His cum cooled and turned sticky as the chill seeped into the flesh. He would be back but not soon. You’d have enough time to wash away his touch but not enough to prepare for his next visit.
Tumblr media
You watched through the window as Bucky carried the long rifle bag and a duffle to his car. He didn’t tell you he was leaving. He didn’t talk at all anymore; not outside of giving you orders. A week maybe since he’d carved his star into your flesh. A week of solace interrupted only by his startling invasions.
Still you were nervous. The mission could last weeks but you never truly felt safe from him. From that mean streak he called “the soldier”. You shivered as he pulled away from the house and you watched his bumper grimly.
You kept your eyes out the window as you watched the yard. The patches of grass turning green, the sun shining brighter, the birds flitting around collecting twigs, the squirrels scurrying and scrounging. Spring had arrived and yet, nothing had changed. You were still a prisoner. Looking on at the world from the outside.
As your nose tingled and you felt like crying, you turned away. You ignored the television, you were done watching others live a life you’d never have. You sat at the table with the box of patterned paper and began to fold. A sparrow, a swan, a deer; your own little forest of animals.
You wiled away the morning with the creased creatures and as the afternoon beamed through the tinted glass, you sat up and stretched. You yawned as the sun shifted. You stood and walked around as your legs cramped. You froze as you heard the beep.
He was back already… that couldn’t be good.
You gulped and watched the door open as the pin pad flashed green. Your hands balled to fists but you were faced by a man you were wholly unprepared for. Steve’s brow wrinkled as he looked around the room. The signs of your isolation were clear. Clothes strewn in a pile, your notebook still overturned on the floor, a messy bed, and you; unkempt and confused.
“Dora,” he said carefully as he stepped inside.
“What are you doing here?” You clasped your hands together. “Where’s Bucky?”
“He’s… away. You didn’t know?” He asked.
“I watched him go but…” You glanced around. “You left me with him.”
“Dor, what could I… I shouldn’t have,” he came closer. He reached out and you cowered. He touched your cheek softly. “Look at you. I’m so sorry.”
“He’s your friend.” You drew away. “You can’t save me from him.”
“You asked why I was here,” he said, “Well, why do you think?”
You were too afraid to be hopeful but when you saw the way he looked at you, you couldn’t help the way your heart throbbed. You couldn’t help but think that he might just get you out.
“But… why would you do that?”
“Because he’s not the Bucky I knew. He’s not the Bucky I saved.” He sniffed. “He’s not the Bucky who can save Dora.”
You frowned and pressed your palms to your neck. “You’d really… save me?”
“I’m here. There’s no going back now.” He reached into his jacket pocket. He revealed the paper frog. “You asked for me to take you away, are you going to come with me?”
Your eyes blurred as tears rose. You couldn’t believe it. You just couldn’t but you had to. It was your only chance. Your only true chance. You couldn’t be afraid anymore. Fear had never done you any good.
“Yes, yes,” you said, “I will. Please--”
“Alright, then we better get going.” He interjected.
He went to the dresser and pulled open each drawer. He took out a shirt, jeans, socks, underwear. He handed them to you and searched for a bag to pack away a few more outfits. He turned to you as you crossed to the bathroom and he stopped you.
“Dora. Let me see your leg.” He said.
You looked down, embarrassed. You lifted the hem of your night shirt and turned your leg to reveal the blazing star mottled in your flesh. His face fell.
“Go, get dressed. Quickly.” He tightened the string on the rucksack and you hurried into the bathroom.
You changed clumsily. The sense of frequency has your pulse thrumming in your ears. As you came out, Steve dropped a pair of shoes before you and searched the closet for a jacket. He helped you pull it on and handed you the bag of clothes.
He grabbed your arm and swept you to the door. He nudged you ahead of him and you stopped dead in the frame. Your eyes rounded and you poked your head out as you peered down the hallway. You were leaving, really leaving.
“Steve,” you gasped, “I--”
“Dor, go,” he said, “We have to go. Now.”
You nodded and stepped out into the hall. Your entire body buzzed and you felt like laughing. It was much too soon for that. You went to the stairs and rushed down onto the landing, barely catching yourself on the railing at the bottom. Steve edged past you and opened the front door.
The song of birds and the whisper of the wind blew through. You placed one foot in front of the other and turned to Steve as you felt the soft sunlight on you. You stood on your toes and grabbed his shoulders. You kissed his lips and he let you. His hand on the small of your back as he parted and urged you through the door.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” you bounced down the steps. “Oh, thank you!”
You followed him to the car and opened your side as he did the same on the other. You hugged the bag to you and sat in the seat. You buckled up as he turned the engine as you shook uncontrollably.
“Steve,” you smiled as he reversed and steered the car around the long gravel drive.
“Dor,” he said evenly as he drove towards the highway.
“I love you,” you sang, “I love you so much!”
He was quiet. He kept his hands on the wheel and stared out the windshield. His long golden lashes caught the sunlight as he stopped at the end of the dirt path and looked onto the black road ahead. He looked at you, his blue eyes warm as the wrinkle left his forehead.
“I love you too,” he echoed and tore his gaze from you. He let out a sigh and stepped on the gas, “Just stick with me, Dor, and you’ll be okay. I promise.”

ghost whisperer - rnm fic
hey so here’s the ghost malex au/human au fic  wrote but didn’t post on halloween week bc i was unmotivated
hope you like it :)
ao3
Chapter One - Ghosts
“First, you need a location”, declared the man, Tom, also known as MythCatcher on Youtube
Michael nodded then furiously scribbled down in his scrawny handwriting “Location”
“Then, you need to do research- Research is a very important part of paranormal investigation. You need to fact-check myths, learn about history of the place you’re looking for poltergeists”, he informs Michael via the small screen of his phone, “Learn about the deceased’s, their name, their story”
He stops the video to write “Research” on the notebook, underneath “Location”, obviously.
“After that: planning. What kind of gear are you planning on taking? Camera? Infrared night vision goggles? An Ouija board to facilitate communication? What kind of questions will you ask, with or without the board? What time are you going? What time are you going to visiting the haunting site? What are the alleged time of the apparition’s sighting?”
Those are too many points, Michael observes and writes “Planning” as a third bullet point in his “How to ghost hunt” list. Tom (MythCatcher) doesn’t appreciate the term “ghost hunter”, he thinks it’s demeaning since people don’t take ghosts seriously. The paranormal, though, that they fear and believe in. Idiot, he muttered as he pressed play on the video again. He does not care about Tom’s sensitivities.
Michael isn’t delusional, he knows most paranormal investigators are as genuine as his will to admit when Max’s right, which is non-existent. But, amongst the sea of “myth catchers”, Tom is the one that makes the most sensible points, despite the fact that he earns money by making Youtube videos in his 40s and advertises for “high-end ghost hunting gear”. Needless to say, he takes Tom’s points with a grain of salt.
“Once you have a list of equipment to take with you and a scripted way to approach the site, the hows and when, then you’re ready for the next step: Communication”, Tom states, “Now, this is a crucial step. To communicate with the paranormal, you must be respectful”
Michael isn’t sure what constitutes as being respectful amongst investigators of the paranormal but invading their space, often the site where they died in, and demanding their participation in whatever nonsensical conversation they have planned doesn’t seem like very cordial behavior.
“No mocking, no inviting dangerous entities to that space, address them by name and be polite. Also you must be protected, always be straightforward about the kind of entity you allow to be in your vicinity. If there’s any funny business going on, send it away immediately. Bring your salt with you. ParanormalActivityStore has a ten percent discount if you use my code for a personalized-“, he is interrupted by Michael closing the app
“That’s enough dead brain cells for a single afternoon”, he reminds himself., after that he scribbles “Communication” as a final bullet point in his list.
Michael Sanders isn’t sure when his obsession with ghosts started, although he doesn’t appreciate his interest and curiosity being labeled and an obsession, thank you very much, despite what everyone else has voiced in the past; that’s why he keeps it to himself these days. No, in fact, he actually knows when this journey began, he can pinpoint it.
See, Michael is a man of rational thinking and little faith, a man of science and not religion which is why he believes in ghosts. Every night for a year he sees his mom, not in dreams, and with no previous history of mental illness, not in delusions. Every night religiously for a year his mom has visited him. When it started he believed himself to be dreaming but that wasn’t the case. She never says much, kneels by his bedside, cradles his face with one hand, caresses his cheek and smiles at him, teary-eyed and whispers. “Manes Residence”, those words haunt him but with a foreign intent. Though it’s a balm to his soul seeing his mother smile at him even when her eyes are so woeful, even proffering such ominous words.
It is a mystery to him as to why, ten years after her death, a brain aneurysm that took her unexpectedly from his arms, she began to visit him during the night and why she whispers those words. He has exhausted every method he’s ever heard of: Ouija boards, calling out to her, lucid dreaming, leaving candles and objects for her to communicate through, he even considered hiring a psychic but that somehow seemed too extreme. He tried praying and still prays at any given time during the day but that doesn’t seem to have been successful. At first he assumed he wasn’t doing it correctly, but then again, at the ripe age of eleven years old, in one of the foster homes he inhabited lived a family of religious fanatics, so he doubts he’s doing prayers incorrectly. Especially when hesitating or stuttering during prayers resulted in punishment. This situation is a big enigma to him and it pesters him on a daily basis. He needs answers. If this was any ordinary mystery he wouldn’t have bothered this much but he has bone-deep certainty that this, whatever it is, is very important.  So keeps trying to contact his mom. He tries unrelentingly.
-
Until one day. He makes his way to the Crashdown, Isobel and Max by his side. After a long day of school (he was thankful it was his senior year), they all decided they needed a well-deserved milkshake with a side portion of french-fries. As they entered the diner and the small bell rang overhead, they noticed an unusual amount of patrons for a Thursday afternoon. Oh, well, he thought. They sauntered towards the counter and waited in line, a single person in front of them, a truly serendipitous event. In the indistinct chatter he picks up two words: Manes Residence.
“Sorry?”, he says loudly, turning towards the person who emitted them
Rosa Ortecho asses him with an unimpressed, and frankly disgusted, expression and continues talking to Liz, disregarding him as if he were a vexing fly.
“So anyways. Lydia told me that now the house is haunted. Sargent Psycho took off with hs ten kids or whatever to nowhere land during the nightly hours. Not a soul saw them ever again”, she points out, “dude murdered his wife after she tried to leave him, buried her than grabbed his five sons and fucked off”
“It’s just a rumor, Rosa!”, Liz replied, laughing purely out of amusement and disbelief
“So this Manes House”, Michael chimed in, “where is it?”
“Michael, stop barging in in people’s conversation”, Max reprehended him, an honest to God blush creeping in
“I’m sorry”, Michael looked from Liz to Rosa, “He isn’t usually this rude”
Michael gave him an eye-roll that screamed Fuck off, Max. Rosa just mimicked him while Liz smiled, a bright and toothy smile.
“It used to be Master-Sargent’s Jesse Manes residence, he lived there with his wife and four sons. Then one day they disappeared off of the map and the house was put up for sale. No one ever saw them since, I think, the fourth of July fair last year”, she informed him, “The house was never sold, probably because of rumors that it is haunted. I can give you the address, me and Rosa used to be best friends with one of his kids, Alex”
“Yeah, right up until the moment the left and just like poof, never called or texted”, Rosa supplied
“He probably just didn’t find the time or-“, Liz tried to explain
“For a year, Liz?”, she replied with a very irritated tone, “Either he is ignoring us, completely forgot us or is dead”
Liz gave her a good-natured eye-roll and simply told her she was being dramatic.
“Can you give me an address?”, Michael asked suddenly feeling anxious
Liz acquiesced then ripped a sheet of paper from her notepad and wrote the address.
“You’re one weird little dude”, Rosa told him, though Michael completely disregarded her
He thanked Liz and almost forgot about the shake and fries, the original reason for his appearance at the Crashdown. As they waited, Max and Isobel engaged in conversation but Michael was far too distracted to hear any of their words, instead, his mind raced, making plans about when to visit the residence. Something akin to energy traveled through his veins, similar to electricity, his heart sped-up, he felt restless and suddenly very aware of his surroundings. The movement of brown paper bags being set on the counter snapped him out of his gaze. He immediately took one, knowing they order essentially the same dish, and strode to the door.
“Michael!”, Isobel called out, drawing heads to her, “where are you going?”
“Sorry. Forgot I had something to do at- um, the junkyard. Talk later”, he immediately turned his back on his friends and exited the diner.
He scrambled for his keys inside his pocket, growing more frustrated by the second, until the skin-warm metal found his finger tips and at last, picked up his keys. He unlocked his baby blue beat-up truck and tossed his food on the passenger seat, subsequently starting the engine. He felt possessed, moving by this ominous force, an urgent feeling, but regardless of his feelings amongst other things, he was hell-bent on finding the Manes residence at that very instant.

Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate Powder
General Description of Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate Powder
Chemically, magnesium chloride is represented as MgCl2. It is a naturally occurring mineral salt which is mostly obtained from seawater and brine. In its pure form, it can be identified as a colorless, odorless, powdery substance with a bitter taste. It gets dissolved in water easily. Magnesium chloride is a versatile compoundwith a number of uses in food preparation, health and personal well-being areas, road care and industry.
Chemical formula: Mgcl2. 6H2O
Purity: 46.00%min.
Appearance: pure white crystal fine powder
Hs code:28273100
CAS NO.:7791-18-6
Application of Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate Powder
Food Preparation
Magnesium chloride is popularly used in food preparation, particularly in Asian communities and children's formulas. Magnesium chloride works as a coagulant agent on liquid forms of soy, helping the material solidify into tofu. It is also added to formula milk fed to babies. It is a compound added to most foods sold to consumers and acts as a mineral supplement.
Used in the Medical Industry
MgCI2 can be found in capsules and tablets and can be used as nutritional supplements. When taken regularly, it prevents blood clotting, keeps blood pressure in check, strengthens teeth and bones, and reduces the risk of severe ailments such as osteoporosis, heart attack, etc.
Hypomagnesaemia
Research has proved that Hypomagnesaemia mainly in cattle and sheep follows after winter when a herd is turned on to lush spring grass. Hypomagnesaemia is more noticeable in cattle grazing on pastures which have recently received a dressing of nitrogenous or potash fertilizer. By spraying a solution of Magnesium Chloride on grass or even directly on the animal or mixed into the cattle feed, this   condition is prevented and has proved to be extremely beneficial to livestock. Magnesium Chloride being environmentally-friendly, will not damage either grasslands or the cattle. For more information contact our dealer.
Horticulture
Plants need several minerals for growth. Magnesium chloride provides magnesiumto plants to correct deficiencies in mineral content. Its use in farming is important since it is majorly used to replace magnesium sulfate.
De-Icing Agent
Liquid magnesium chloride is widely used as an anti-icier. If it is sprayed on roadways before precipitation, it delays the formation of ice and prevents its adhesion to the surface of the road. Thus, it controls the excessive accumulation of snow and ice on the roads in winter months. This, in turn, reduces the chance of skidding of vehicles and improves driving conditions. As compared to any other anti-icier like sodium chloride, it is the more preferred one mainly because it is less corrosive in nature. Moreover, it does not cause any harm to plant life growing beside roadways.
For Controlling Dust
Magnesium chloride tends to absorb a lot of moisture from the air. When its liquid or powdered form is applied on dusty areas such as excavation sites, race courses, etc.. Thus, it prevents small dust particles from flying around and contaminating the air the dust gets suppressed onto the ground.
For Manufacturing Industrial Products
Along with its health and public safety uses, magnesium chloride is also used in a number of industrial processes, including textile production. Among the environmental industry applications of magnesium chloride, it is also used as an industrial dye and dye waste remover. It is particularly common in printing mills and other paper textile manufacturing centers, where it is used to neutralize and clean wastewater byproducts. Formulated to accuracy, our Magnesium Chloride Flakes are suitable to be used in the preparation of Oxychloride Cement (3MgOMgC1211H2O) and Magnesium Hydroxide Mg(OH)2

8.13.17 // 2:30pm //guide to school organization
this one was requested by @boglarkat-studyblr, @catharticstudying and @nevermindigotnothin, so i hope you find this useful! i've definitely tried a bunch of different organization methods over my years of schooling, so i know a fair bit about it. this post will include my current organizational system and also some other ones i've tried/thought of and their pros and cons. hopefully there's something in here for everyone! xoxo, m
ps. you do not have to be impeccably organized to be successful. studyblr kind of perpetuates this "i need to have everything planned perfectly and color coded and filed away in this super neat system". not everybody works that way and not everybody needs that in order to achieve their goals. find what works for you.
my organizational system:
1. notebooks: there are some classes i've taken in college (namely orgo 1+2) where it is super important to go to lecture and take good notes. i used a dedicated notebook for said notes for both these classes.
>>> here is where i reveal that, by a lot of standards, i'm a pretty shitty student. what i mean is, i skipped/didn't pay attention in a fair amount of my classes. i didn't really take notes in my bio or linear algebra or intro engineering classes because my professors posted powerpoints or notes or recorded lectures (or the material was very self explanatory). for these classes, i made study guides to review the material. i'd either use blank paper or whatever fun notebook i had lying around (i used a paperchase notebook for linear). if you'd like to learn more about why i chose to do things this way/my philosophy behind skipping class and prioritizing, shoot me a message or an ask!
2. legal pads. i did most of my math homework on these. i like them because they don't have binding on the side, they're easier to tear pages out of than spirals (my hw was graded) and i have way too many in my house. i also used these for random notes in classes i didn't have a dedicated notebooks for. also great for scratch work (they're a little slimmer and lighter than regular notebooks)
3. binders: so i don't really use these that much. second semester i used a 1-inch binders that didn't leave my room much. it held all of my rewritten notes/study guides for orgo (and some for multi from 1st semester).
>>> the only notes i actually "rewrite" are my orgo ones. i use my spiral notebook paper (because it is better quality than my legal pad and loose paper) and then stick the sheets in the binder. this makes it really easy to flip through and review. i might make a masterpost on how i do this (or did this, my methods for other classes are different) later in the semester, but lmk if you're interested in seeing that!
4. folders. these are what come around with me in place of binders. i usually have 1 catch all folder that holds everything. sometimes i pretend i'm more organized than that and carry another one supposedly dedicated to a subject. the one folder that's actually dedicated would be the folder i used for orgo lab, which i carried lab reports/protocols in. i also had this folder that lived in my room. it held my graded essays/papers from my two writing based class (1st semester spanish + 2nd semester writing).
5. magazine holder. (i think that's what they're called? those things that sit on your desk and hold papers?) i kept my looseleaf paper in one of these and i also filed away old exams and some study materials in here. i had exams from engineering, both math classes, orgo 1+2 as well as some engineering study guides. and some orgo practice problems? i think. this just made it easy to go back and review come midterm. holding on to these things also comes in handy if you have a friend taking the class once you've finished it and they need help.
6. bullet journal. pretty sure you guys all know what this is. my bujo was pretty simple. i had a monthly, expense tracker, and an art challenge each month. for weeklies i had a section for my assignments for the week and the next week. i also wrote down my schedule and some textbook info. pretty simple.
i think that's it for my "system"? idk not really much of a system but there you go. here are some other quick ideas (some of which i used to use).
note-taking/notebook systems (where you write things down)
1. 1 subject notebook system: have a dedicated notebook for each class.
>>> pros: everything is separate and has it's own place. you can change things out so you're not carrying everything at once
>>> cons: some classes don't need an entire notebook dedicated to them (you're just carrying dead weight). you have to make sure you have the right notebook for your class (don't grab the wrong one. i've done it. it sucks)
2. multisubject notebook system: use one 5-subject notebook for everything (this should be enough subjects for college, you'll have to adapt in hs) or 2 3-subject notebooks.
>>> pros: everything is in one place. don't have to worry if you have the right notebook. fewer number of pages/subject in case you don't need much paper
>>> cons: super heavy. if you only have one class that day, you'll still have to carry 5 classes worth of stuff. the amount of pages/subject is smaller, so if you need to take a lot of notes, you'll probably run out.
3. looseleaf paper: you write the notes on a loose sheet of paper. the end.
> where do i put it? in a binder/folder (potentially in the prongs)/expanding file
>>> pros: no binding to get in the way. you use as much paper as you need. you can rearrange the order of your notes.
>>> cons: easier to loose if you don't put away immediately. you have to carry a giant stack of paper around (which may fall out of your bag and scatter everywhere)
4. legal pad. you write on a legal pad. (maybe one per class?)
>>> pros: not as loose as looseleaf. no binding. easy tear out (compared to spiral) should you choose to organize the pages in a binder/folder.
>>> cons: can't really write on the back unless you rip the page out. hard to flip through pages if you keep them on the pad.
filing systems (where do things go)
1. one binder. put everything in one binder with dividers for each subject. you could put the notes in here or use a notebook.
>>> pros: all in one place. more secure than folder
>>> cons: heavy af. bulky af. needs hole punching. (can you tell i'm personally not a fan?)
2. multiple binders. use a 1-inch binder per class (or something like that). notes can go in or stay out.
>>> pros: way lighter/slimmer. more secure than folder.
>>> cons: gotta pick the right binder for your class. hole punching.
3. folder/multiple folders/multipocket folder/expanding file. same principles as the last two, just a folder/pocket instead of a binder. using one folder has the pros/cons of one binder, mutiple folders has the pros/cons of multiple binders. additionally:
>>> pros: slimmer than binder. no hole punching.
>>> cons: not as secure. stuff can fall out. can't flip through your materials.
surprise, surprise. i just wrote an essay. again. i hope that this was helpful in some way and, as always, don't hesitate to ask if you want to know more! xoxo, m

LU 1 First Semester Events
I wasn’t able to update this blog regularly about the memorable events of my first semester, so I thought of summarizing them in one post.
1. Freshmen Welcoming Assembly
All incoming freshmen of UP Manila were gathered in the Girl Scout of the Philippines Auditorium along Padre Faura for a welcoming assembly. There were performances from different college and university-wide organizations, speeches from guest speakers and UP Manila’s Chancellor, and of course, a mini rally from the UPM’s student council. It felt surreal watching other UP students run up to the stage, carrying banners and placards while demanding for free education. For the last fourteen years of my life, I attended a small, private school located in a safe, peaceful village. This day marked not only the beginning of a more challenging academic journey, but also the end of comfort and familiarity. This feeling was underscored further after the assembly, as I crossed Taft avenue for the very first time, exposed to the heat of the sun and the smoke of pollution, walking past beggars and street vendors, just to attend my afternoon classes in Rizal Hall.
2. Handog
Handog is an annual event for freshmen, consisting of a Mr. and Ms. Freshie pageant and several inter-block competitions. This was the first event that required our block to work together, so it was quite difficult to assign committees and coordinate with each other. We had people selling Spanish bread to raise funds for our pageant reps while others participated in the inter-block competitions, shooting and editing videos and creating publicity materials. The actual event was definitely memorable because of the performances of the pageant reps, but what made it even better was the fact that the two blocks of INTARMED bagged many awards.
3. All Orgs Fair and UPCM Org Applications
During the All Orgs Fair, UPM organizations set up booths in Rizal Hall (aka CAS) to promote their org. To be honest, I did not really check out the fair. I wasn’t interested in joining university-wide organizations. However, I did check out Christ’s Youth in Action because I want to deepen faith and find a community of people who share my values. All the members I’ve met so far are friendly. Even though I’m not as active as I would like to be, many of them still greet me when we see each other around campus. Aside from CYA, I also checked out the organizations of my mother college, the College of Medicine. Most, if not all, CM orgs host a small event where CM students can get a glimpse of the org’s activities, members, and application process. I was not able to attend all, but I signed up for the organizations which interested me, such as Medical Students’ Society and PAGSAMA. Aside from this, I also signed up for the VolCorps of the Medicine Student Council (MSC). Yes, quite a handful, but since I’m still an applicant, the load is not heavy… yet.
4. HS Uniform Day
This is not an official event organized by UPM. My blockmates just decided it would be fun to show up to class wearing our high school uniforms. It helped that there is no dress code in UPM. It felt good to wear my white blouseb and school skirt again, and it was also entertaining to see how my blockmates looked in their old uniforms. Looking at the photo we took as a batch made me feel super nostalgic for my high school days!!
5. Histo 1 Field Trip
From what I know, all History courses in UPM require one field trip per semester. In our case, we had a field trip to Batangas, visiting the shrines of famous heroes such as General Malvar, Apolinario Mabini, and Marcela Agoncillo. The scenery was beautiful (sorry this is all I could say, I’m not good at describing things lol), and the shrines were very informative. Also, having chips and packed lunch while riding in a bus made me feel nostalgic again for my high school days! After the field trip, we were required to submit a two-page reaction paper a few days later. It was worth 30% of my final Histo grade - already had four 75′s in our daily quizzes (RIP), so you can imagine the EFFORT I put into writing that paper.
6. TRP: Tao Rin Pala
TRP is one of the most-awaited annual events in the College of Med where students showcase their talents for dancing and performing. CM organizations and LU I & II students are required to perform a dance number, while LU III-V compete in a chorale competition. I don’t like dancing or performing (at all), but I REALLY enjoyed TRP. Since I applied to two orgs, I had a total of THREE dance numbers. I was even placed in front for all three, so you can imagine my initial apprehensions about the whole thing. But during the actual performances, I found myself smiling at the crowd and trying to pretend I’m a good dancer. Aside from this, it was fun watching the other performances, especially those of the upper levels. It amazes me how students in med proper (with a schedule of 8-5 every day) found time to choreograph their performances, much less rehearse regularly. I was also amazed by the efforts of the MSS members to organize the whole event. TRP was probably the highlight of my first semester tbh.
7. Oblation Run
I wasn’t aware there was also an Oblation Run in UP Manila. On its scheduled time, my blockmates and I positioned ourselves in front of the CAS library on the second floor. Soft screams and laughter could be heard once several naked men started walking along the hallways holding placards. Somehow, it felt like my official induction into UP (LOL).
8. Lantern Parade
This took place at the end of the first semester, after finals week. Similar to the one in Diliman, each college is required to make a float/lantern that will be paraded along campus - or in UP Manila’s case, along Taft Avenue and Padre Faura. The actual lantern/float was made by LU III students - they did REALLY GOOD, can I just say - while the props were made by LU I students. I feel really GUILTY for not helping out as much with the preparations for the lantern parade, and I was even late for the actual parade. But I arrived in time to witness the announcement that our college won first place. When “College of Medicine” was announced, cheers erupted from our side. I found myself surrounded by people jumping and chanting the college’s cheer, and the whole thing just felt surreal. It was a great way to end the semester.

Before all this sequestering and social distance, I signed up last week for @hellofreshca because they had a good promo and the recipes were very appealing. Very timely as my grocery store was out of a few things 🤔😤🤬 I was excited to see the box come in but had to wait until I was done working from home before opening it. I don't impress easily but HelloFresh did a bang up job. Opening the box, each meal is inside a clearly labelled paper bag. The box is lined to keep things cold. All the meat was in the bottom ... on ice! Very slick and worked perfectly. I was really happy with the quality of the produce (fresh and crispy), the meats are nice cuts and the recipe cards are clear and concise. I'm not one to fully follow a recipe, so I tweaked it a bit. Tonight's dinner was Pan-seared chicken with smashed potatoes, roast green beans and a rosemary and leak pan sauce. Most of the prep is done ... I had to chop the potatoes and mince the garlic. That's it. Everything else is cooking along the easy directions. Bonus: most of the packaging is recyclable! Bonus 2: social distance maintained! Bonus 3: it was *really* tasty 🥰😁😁😁 Passing grade from @sandybfudgiemom and me. Want to try it and save: Start your cooking adventure today and use the following promo code: HS-CS6CALR06. Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate Flake

Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate Flakes
General Description of Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate Flake
Chemically, magnesium chloride is represented as MgCl2. It is a naturally occurring mineral salt which is mostly obtained from seawater and brine. In its pure form, it can be identified as a colorless, odorless, powdery substance with a bitter taste. It gets dissolved in water easily. Magnesium chloride is a versatile compound with a number of uses in food preparation, health and personal well-being areas, road care and industry.
Chemical formula: Mgcl2. 6H2O
Purity: 46.00%min.
Appearance: pure white flake
Hs code:28273100
CAS NO.:7791-18-6
Application of Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate Flake
Magnesium Chloride being environmentally-friendly,will not damage either grasslands or the cattle. For more information contact our dealer.
Horticulture
Plants need several minerals for growth. Magnesium chloride provides magnesium to plants to correct deficiencies in mineral content. Its use in farming is important since it is majorly used to replace magnesium sulfate.
De-Icing Agent
Liquid magnesium chloride is widely used as an anti-icer. As compared to any other anti-icer like sodium chloride, it is the more preferred one mainly because it is less corrosive in nature. Moreover, it does not cause any harm to plant life growing beside roadways.
For Controlling Dust
Magnesium chloride tends to absorb a lot of moisture from the air. When its liquid or powdered form is applied on dusty areas such as excavation sites, race courses, etc...
Package of Magnesium Chloride Hexahydrate Flake
