Being someone who read Under The Red Hood and came out with the firm belief that, for Jason, it's not about killing Joker, it's about Jason wanting proof Batman would choose him over the Joker (bc shelia chose the joker). Makes seeing any other media where it's all about just wanting the Joker dead is a teeny bit frustrating. to be honest

Jason could've killed the Joker himself, really, really easily. Jason kidnaps the Joker before the confrontation. I can't open my comic for a reference right now, but it felt like he had the Joker for quite a bit before the confrontation. He had him. He beat him up with a crowbar. He had every single opportunity to kill the Joker himself, but he didn't because that wasn't his goal. Make no mistake, he did plan for the Joker to be dead by the end of it, but do you see what im trying to say here

It's not about making Batman kill either. When Batman says he won't kill, Jason adjusts and goes, 'Let ME kill the Joker or kill me to stop me' instead. The test is all about Batman choosing him. The whole final confrontation is Jason's first death again. The parent, The Joker, and the explosives. It even ends with Jason unable to move as a bomb goes off right next to him again because the parent didn't choose Jason. And instead tried finding an option that'd benefit them and (consequencely) letting the Joker walk, again, lol, lmao <-in agony

Stan and Soos' sorta-Dad and Sonployee relationship

We of course have Soos assigning Stan as his father figure the moment he got hired

But Stan holds that moment dear too, with Soos becoming his main source of company after the Mystery Shack, his first big success, was starting to hit rock bottom. And he made sure to keep the screwdriver that led Soos to him for a decade which unfortunately gets stolen by a certain time traveler...

(Their meeting being a paradox of Soos' family leading him to them is super sweet too!)

Playing one game of catch with their dads still was a dream for both of them, even when it was clear that it'll never happen, even when Soos knows that the Pines are his family and he shouldn't care about that biological deadbeat, even when Filbrick threw Stan away like trash.

But both of them end up finding closure with each other anyway.

Along with Stan likely teaching him how to fix golf carts (to the point that Soos is pretty skilled at it now), he also taught him boxing and tried to do something about his birthday, which is another sore spot for the both of them.

In the Sooscast, we have Stan continuing with the podcast despite learning this horrifying truth/not understanding what the hell is going on.

Noticeably, we see that Stan is a lot more lenient on Soos in comparison to Dipper, mostly because Stan doesn't project most of his issues onto him. (Not that he's immune from chores or shitty tasks but that's the burden of being a sonployee...)

And in NWHS, Stan trusts him to guard the lab with no questions asked (even if that ended up being foiled by Soos loving Mabel and Dipper too)

The comic story is Soos helping Stan regain and continue one of his childhood dreams, with the website having Stan continuing to draw on the Stan o' War.

And while unfortunately most of their father-son relationship content is at the end or after the series, Alex still said a lot about them in the commentary and interviews!

Before they met, Soos was someone who appeared to only really have his Abuelita and cousin, while Stan had.... a baby goat. And a disappearing frilly lizard.

We have Stan claiming that the reason why he never had children was because of his own dad and that money is basically his child (which just loops around back to his money obsession being his desire to get back his family)

But even still, he passes down the Shack and fez to Soos with barely any pause, the fez in particular being tied up with a lot of complex emotions. But Soos getting his own suit fitted just for him and not being pressured to wear a girdle to hide his weight kinda symbolizes to me that the role of Mr Mystery is now free from that baggage.

And whenever we'd end up getting Stan o' War stories, I'm sure the two of them are gonna get way more father-son moments

while i get where this comes from and it’s true to an extent, i reeeaaaally don’t like how people try to explain “trans men don’t [necessarily] have male privilege” with things like “some trans men don’t pass”.

Context-turned-drabble for a wip I just thought of. Accidental baby acquisition, platonic Frank and Julie:

I’m going to say rainbow monsters are made cabbage patch-style. All it takes is love, good soil, seeds, a partner(s), time, and a rainbow monster.

Now imagine Frank sets aside a small part of his garden just for Julie and him to work on. A joint effort just for fun! They spend some time there every day, even if only long enough to water the plants. Through their efforts they managed to make a flourishing little haven for anyone who might come by and visit, be it neighbor or bug.

They’re doing some weeding one mid-morning, chattering about this and that as they do, when a movement distracts them both. A bud, the strange giant one top of the yellow rose bush, was moving. The bush itself wasn’t too old, just barely big enough to sustain the weight of that bowling ball of a bud above it. Neither of them knew what to make of it. Not that the other plants were any help! Julie had tried asking them, but according to her, they all just gave the same “you’ll see!” and “in due time~”, or they plain just burst out into happy giggles. Seeing no reason to worry, both gray and pink puppets decided to take special care of the plant just to see what would come of it.

Back to the bud in active bloom.

Frank: [soft gasp, looking in awe] Julie! Look! [concerned] Why is it moving so quickly?? Is it saying anything—?!

A beat passes where in Julie looks at Frank. Frank looks at Julie. They look at the baby, which could only be a rainbow monster, still sleeping peacefully in his or her floral cradle.

Well. There will be time to panic later! Right now there is a baby in Frank’s backyard to deal with! A second of decision later and Frank was picking up the now waking infant, Julie speeding to his house to fetch a soft towel to wrap the baby in. She knew his house well enough to know where they were. Precious cargo in hand, Frank quickly, and more careful than he needed to be, followed Julie inside where she was waiting for him anxiously, towel in hand. A bit of clumsy fumbling happened as they both tried to figure out how exactly one was supposed to swaddle an infant without disturbing them, but they got it eventually after several minutes of trial and error.

Frank understandably let Julie borrow his phone for the urgent call up to where the rest of the Joyful siblings lived. How could this have happened? How is it that Julie, of all people, didn’t notice? And most importantly, what were they going to do with the child?!

Hopefully Julie’s siblings would know how to help.

*hits blunt* Joker has a long-standing one-sided beef with Nightingale in the Blood Blossom au because Nightingale clocked his shit almost immediately and began "sharks are smooth"ing at him. But because Nightingale only comes out in case of emergencies, Joker has to come up with increasingly convoluted schemes to trap the Batman in order to lure him out.

This has the opposite desired effect because this is the equivalent of using increasingly difficult locks to keep the raccoons out of your trash. All you're doing is teaching the raccoons how to pick locks. This also pisses off the other Rogues because Joker keeps making trapping the Batman exponentially harder all because he's beefing with his teenage son.

You know, looking at Damocles through the lore lens is SO interesting. Because the one thing we do officially have is how Sleep Token came to be.

From their 2017 Metal Hammer interview:

"Vessel encountered Sleep in a dream, with promise of glory and magnificence if Vessel followed Him."

Success, fame, power in exchange for worship. Seems easy enough right? Vessel took the deal, and sure enough, the glory came. But it all comes to a price doesn't it? To worship was the condition, not the payment - it's just that Vessel didn't know how big the cost was. He wanted to get to the top, but didn't realise how steep was the fall.

This reads like a fae's trick, like a twisted granted wish from a genie. A crossroads deal with the devil.

There are many theories about the moral nature of Sleep - are They benevolent or malicious? Is there space for ambiguity? Do They have any regard for their mortal worshippers, or is divine power the only thing They crave?

Regardless of where one stands on it (and really, it's such an open concept that there's definitely space for all of these to co-exist), Damocles to me cements how malevolent and capricious Sleep is. Because if pain and despair is what They crave, why would They warn a mere feeble human of the consequences of the success they so desperately seek?

Especially after TMBTE - we thought that Vessel would finally retaliate, and it was precisely after that decision to fight, to bite back, that they reached the top and saw what was awaiting there. Almost as if Sleep lulled him into a false sense of security, let him hope for the best, gave him a taste of grandeur, and let him find out for himself his golden palace was just another cage - one built with his own flesh and bone.

And how is he supposed to escape from that prision, when the warden is himself?

i think a lot of people read imperator #4 and got a fast one pulled on them, which is funny because it's exactly the same fast one ghost has pulled on people for the last decade or so. the old classic "you have made an assumption about how these people are related to each other and that assumption was wrong."

it's isabella with the boys on the last page, and those kids aren't imperator's half-siblings and the young one is not vee. they both look like isabella. they're just her stepfather's new kids.

imperator's mom and her other daughter vs isabella and her sons at the end of the chapter. these are not the same woman.

and here's isabella with the same updo, necklace, and shawl as the woman at the end of the comic. that's isabella.

imperator's stepfather remarried. her mother and her little half-sister have probably been murdered. motive? the man is insane so that should be enough reason but given the themes of the series, he was probably trying for a son and couldn't get one from imperator's mom, so he killed her and his new daughter and tried to pass it off as an accident so he could remarry without a scandal.

isabella is the new wife. she likely suspected this guy killed his last wife and daughter. she wanted imperator to make sure her husband would die soon. she proooobably wanted imperator caught before she finished so that her husband would live juuuust long enough to officially name her/her sons as the people now in charge of his scam church. that's what's happening.
