Hello everyone and happy Friday! Hope you’ve all had a great week. Today I’m sharing my #bookstackflag which I first saw on @eleanor.reads.books page and was determined to try out. Apologies for the shadow on the pic, that was the best I could get it at the time. I’m going to pretend it’s for artistic effect 😉😂 Can you guess which country I’m representing with my books? It’s one of my favourite places to visit in the world, the food is my favourite to eat and the flag is also known as il Tricolore! The books are from left to right: The Corset - Laura Purcell East Of The Sun - Julia Gregson The Butcher’s Hook - Janet Ellis The Silence Of The Girls - Pat Barker The Master And Margarita - Mikhail Bulgakov The Child Finder - Rene Denfeld The Power - Naomi Alderman The Haunted Hotel - Wilkie Collins American Psycho - Bret Easton Ellis I won’t tag anyone but if you fancy joining in please do, I’d love to see your book stack flags! Have a great weekend everyone 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booklover #bookworm #bookstagramchallenge #thecorset #laurapurcell #eastofthesun #juliagregson #thebutchershook #janetellis #thesilenceofthegirls #patbarker #themasterandmargarita #mikhailbulgakov #thechildfinder #renedenfeld #thepower #naomialderman #thehauntedhotel #wilkiecollins #americanpsycho #breteastonellis https://www.instagram.com/p/CDCEbSMgvIe/?igshid=2ksa3xv2j9tk

Happy Sunday! I can’t think of a great or good caption so I just leave you my recent purchases here to dwell on. Matt Haigs reasons to stay alive was on my wishlist for such a long time. If you don’t follow him on twitter, then I don’t know. I still have to read Maja Lundes first novel though but the second one I had to have. Having studied ancient history left me with a wish to read everything that reminds me oft that so the Silence of the girls by Pat Barker is a different approach to the Trojan War which I hopefully can read a bit sooner then later. And lastly I finally got my hands on this tome of a book- BeastieBoys Book. Written by Adam Horowitz and Michael Diamond. Even the preface made me tear up. It’s like revisiting my youth and yes,I am that old 😊 #bookstagram #books #igreads #bookhaul #reasonstostayalive #matthaig #patbarker #thesilenceofthegirls #majalunde #diegeschichtedeswassers #beastieboysbook #adamhorowitz #michaeldiamond #miked #adrock https://www.instagram.com/p/B8V-V4rIOVH/?igshid=wcfzxe9ki98h

May 25th, 2019 || READING WRAP UP n°6! . 🌻 The Guest Cat. I was completely unmoved by this. Don’t even know how to rate it because I don’t think it was unnecessarily a bad book, it’s just one that didn’t do anything for me. 🌻 Th Silence of the Girls. This wasn’t bad but didn’t live up to my expectations. The title is fitting though.... the girls indeed stay silent. I was expecting a retelling focusing on the women but instead it focused on Achilles 🙃. Nothing wrong with that, but not tue story I was expecting (5.5/10). 🌻 The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart. The writing and the characters were the best bits about this novel. Narratively speaking, it had loads of holes. There were too many narrative shifts that sometimes didn’t make any sense and the ending felt too rushed (6.5/10). 🌻 The Remains of the Day. Throughout the whole book I kept thinking this was a nice story discussing interesting themes but not something special... until the ending, which left a heavy impression on me. I’m still ruminating about it (7.5/10). 🌻 Malamander. I picked this the other day in Waterstones because the cover caught my attention. Children’s books are always tricky to rate as an adult but I did enjoy the story and I think it’s one children will love (7.5/10) . What books have you finished recently? • • • #readingwrapup #adayinbooklandreviews #bookstack #stackofbooks #thesilenceofthegirls #theguestcat #theremainsoftheday #thelostflowersofalicehart #malamander #childrensbook #womensprize #manbooker #fortheloveofreading https://www.instagram.com/p/Bx4b1XVIzjX/?igshid=1pg25dxz871u6

Currently reading: The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker A retelling of the Iliad from the perspective of Briseis, the queen who became a slave of Achilles during the Trojan War. As a longtime fan of Greek mythology and someone who really enjoys historical fiction and retellings, especially those told from the point of view of women, I was looking forward to reading this book. Synopsis: “The ancient city of Troy has withstood a decade under siege of the powerful Greek army, which continues to wage war over a stolen woman—Helen. In the Greek camp, another woman—Briseis—watches and waits for the war's outcome. She was queen of one of Troy's neighboring kingdoms, until Achilles, Greece's greatest warrior, sacked her city and murdered her husband and brothers. Briseis becomes Achilles's concubine, a prize of battle, and must adjust in order to survive a radically different life, as one of the many conquered women who serve the Greek army. When Agamemnon, the brutal political leader of the Greek forces, demands Briseis for himself, she finds herself caught between the two most powerful of the Greeks. Achilles refuses to fight in protest, and the Greeks begin to lose ground to their Trojan opponents. Keenly observant and coolly unflinching about the daily horrors of war, Briseis finds herself in an unprecedented position, able to observe the two men driving the Greek army in what will become their final confrontation, deciding the fate not only of Briseis's people but also of the ancient world at large. Briseis is just one among thousands of women living behind the scenes in this war—the slaves and prostitutes, the nurses, the women who lay out the dead—all of them erased by history. With breathtaking historical detail and luminous prose, Pat Barker brings the teeming world of the Greek camp to vivid life. She offers nuanced, complex portraits of characters and stories familiar from mythology, which, seen from Briseis's perspective, are rife with newfound revelations. #thesilenceofthegirls #books#greekmythology#bookstagram#historicalfiction#trojanwar#theiliad#reading#bookshelf#bookrecommendations#igreads#fiction#warbooks https://www.instagram.com/readingwonderlands/p/BxPRD55H2OQ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=97za5advxy3
