Showing off some of the design work I did for Minotaurs Unleashed on Pathfinder Infinite! This project was all done by me and with Howl of the Wild announcing their own official Minotaur Ancestry I figure now is a good time to plug my own content. When the official ancestry comes out I'll be remastering it to expand on the official stuff so it'll still have value! If you have any interest the link is here: https://www.pathfinderinfinite.com/product/422349/Minotaurs-Unleashed-A-Pathfinder-2nd-Edition-Ancestry?affiliate_id=1244547

Hello Jax and Midnight, I'd like to take my chance with another question, if I may. Which human custom did you come to like the most, which the least?
Maybe I should have waited until the year was full. 🙈 But almost full will have to do.😅 I never forgot, I kept taking notes, and I was never satisfied. There had to be a moment when they could speak for themselves. Now they did. And it doesn't matter if I'm satisfied, because even if I wasn't, they wouldn't answer any differently. Have fun with the dragons.🐉🐉 --
Midnight and Jax looked at each other thoughtfully, seemingly disagreeing on who should begin. Jax shrugged and began to speak to his friend in a majestic, deep voice, accompanied by a humorous tone that didn't quite fit. "There are more traditions and customs among the human folks of Golarion than there are grains of sand in the world. Some seem reasonable, others utterly ridiculous. I don't know where to begin."
"I don't think it's about you listing all the ridiculous customs, darling. It's about what you like and don't like about living among humans," Midnight said, lovingly trying to put his partner on the right track.
"How should I answer that, I don't really have a comparison. I've been living with Tishlia and Dae ever since I joined them. I have to admit that they have some… rather peculiar customs. But I've never lived among dragons after my time in the egg, except for you, so what should I compare it to? You had a different life before, you do this, what was it like for you to move to the humans?"
"It was confusing, after years alone, Lia was not only my first human contact, but my first contact in a long time. It took a while before I really dared to interact with others. It was only after a few years that we began to visit the small villages in the surrounding area from time to time. I had read a lot, and she told me so much about life in the city that I thought I was well prepared." The dark blue curls bounced with his gentle laugh. "That was such a fallacy." With a dreamy smile, he looked down, seemingly lost in a pleasant thought.
Carefully, Jax intertwined his fingers with his lover's and kissed the back of his hand, pulling him back from the memories he had allowed to carry him away. "Sorry, I was miles away."
"You couldn't miss it. Lost in your thoughts, you're beautiful, but I'm afraid our guest won't get the desired answers this way, my love." He pulled Midnight closer, sliding his lips over his temple and began to nibble his way down to his lips until he was pushed back fiercely by a hand on his chest.
"No one will get any answers this way either! Sit still and be a good dragon." Midnight's eyes twinkled like the stars in the night sky, but the endearing expression on his face made the rejection seem half-hearted.
Jax kept a mischievous grin on his face and his fingers never stopped playing with Midnight's hand, who took a deep breath and continued speaking. "Where were we? Ah yes … the fallacy of preparation. I knew a lot about religions, politics, too much about warfare, everything you can read in books. Thanks to Lia, I also knew a little about interpersonal relationships, but even that didn't prepare me for everything.
I didn't notice it at first, but when I looked closer, a lot of things seemed completely wrong and almost insane. I've seen people pull living flowers out of paths and walls and say it has to be clean, but then they take cut dead flowers and put them on the freshly cleaned table. How can that not confuse me? When they climb a mountain, they all talk about the great view, but they prefer to live between stone walls, in semi-darkness with tiny windows. Food is eaten at certain times of the day instead of just eating when you are hungry. Fresh bread is only available in the morning. Wine is drunk in the evening. But if you don't get up until the middle of the day, you still have breakfast. But these are small things, what confused me the most were the relationships between people.
Lia and I had been so close for a long time, and I took a lot of touching and embracing for granted when she was around. The first thing I had to understand was that friendship can take many forms and that public displays of affection are not always appropriate for friends. It took me a long time to understand when it was appropriate to show affection and when it was not. It was hurtful. It's gotten a lot nicer since the four of us live here, we just don't care anymore and do what we want." Midnight noticed the movement next to him and intercepted Jax's second hand before it could reach his thigh.
"That wasn't meant as a carte blanche for you, because it's not appropriate now, so keep your hands to yourself, golden boy." Pouting, Jax pulled back a little, seeming to soften his partner's heart, who kissed him briefly before continuing his report.
"But there were worse things, things that horrified me. Some of them still do. There are people who smile in each other's faces and then turn around and say the worst things about each other. There are people who would rather throw bread away than give it to someone who is hungry. People who turn their backs on the elderly or disabled and call them a burden. Or those who love their children, but when a child is hungry and begging on the street, they mercilessly chase it away. Such moments were very frightening and made me doubt if I could really live like this in the long run. Lia had to do a lot of work with me to show me that there are good things. But in the end, they really do exist. I have seen how people stick together in times of trouble. How they help each other even when they don't like each other. But what impressed me the most is that they are able to rethink their opinions, to go new ways, to grow beyond themselves, which is something I would deny most dragons to this day."
"You haven't exactly been quick to rethink your opinion of me." A challenging grin appeared on Jax's face.
"You were this stubborn guy, obsessed with prophecies and the infallibility of gold dragons. Besides, you were always trying to keep me on the 'right path'. It was up to you to discover new ways and grow beyond yourself. After you did that, I gave in pretty quick, didn't I?"
Smiling, Jax got to his feet, brushed his silver hair out of his face, and extended an inviting hand to his partner. "I think you've answered the question sufficiently. You know what's a really nice human custom that I really enjoy with you? A tub full of warm water, foam, and rose petals."
An endearing laugh filled the room. "If you want to start with those things, I can add more to the list, music, dancing, reading, there's a lot I wouldn't want to do without."
"Stop it Milan, I've shared you long enough. But if you add a bottle of wine, it sounds like a worthwhile way to end the day." With one hand he pulled Midnight out of the chair, close enough to his side to wrap an arm around his waist. His eyes fell on the questioner. His parting words lacked the playful tone with which he had spoken before, and the friendly yet imperious tone of his voice inspired awe in all who heard it. "It is not often that someone asks for our opinion, or rather that someone dares to ask for it. I'm sure this conversation will keep Midnight and me talking until late this evening. I'm also relieved that we didn't end up discussing the attitudes and deepest secrets of our friends, because then this conversation would have been over in a flash. That means this doesn't have to be goodbye forever. See you again, dear curious guest, it has been a pleasure."
Smiling, Migdnight waved goodbye, then let himself be led out of the room, snuggling close to the strong shoulder.

I think the thing that annoys me most about 4e hate is OSR people who have clearly been making the same arguments for eighteen years about the game, even after 5e changed a bunch of things explicitly to cater to them. They will say the same recycled 4e bullshit about 5e, "your characters are like superheroes it's not believable", when 5e characters are much closer to TSR era powerscaling than they are to anything else WotC's ever published, "the combat system is so slow and heavy" when 5e is the lightest WotC combat system.
It's annoying, because there are actual problems with 5e, even from just an "OSR is better" perspective. The system is woefully lacking in rules for... anything really. There's a sparse bit of messy combat rules, and the vague suggestion that there might be some structure to other things, like marching overland, and purchasing things. And maybe hidden in the back of some random chapter in the DMG there will be a rule or two about conversational encounters.
It's a common sentiment that 5e players don't read their rulebooks, but it makes enough sense that they don't when the rulebooks are massive and more concerned with full page art spreads and random lore babble than they are with actually mechanically defining the game world in a meaningful way. You can basically play the entire game to the satisfaction of 90% of 5e tables by reading the introduction, the parts of the book relevant to your specific character (your race, your class, your background), and maybe the combat section. Everything else you play will likely either be ignored or homebrewed.
Which... Most players seem to be fine with? I don't particular care what happens at someone else's table, but it annoys me that there are problems with the rulebooks, and the only people who point them out are self centered wackjobs trying to get you to play their own favorite better, and cooler, version of D&D. As if shitting on a game someone else likes will actually ever convince them to play the game you're talking about.
Those of you who were not around for the edition wars of 2008 have no idea how heated but most of all dumb the 4e hatred was.
I hung out in the Living Greyhawk circles of Finland back in those days, and the h4te (this was a thing people would type) was very prevalent. My favourite complaints were that the map of the walled village of Winterhaven could not house its entire population despite being described as surrounded by farmhouses, how the points of light style setting supposedly made no sense because magic item shopkeepers should be handing out their wares to adventurers for free because every settlement must obviously be under constant siege by monsters, and how the name Mika is listed as a female human name despite being a masculine name in Finnish.

more work I've done for Pathfinder Infinite, this time its Cooking Unleashed, a supplement I made to add player options for all the fun cooking items released in treasure vaults. Drawing the gelatinous gummies and making them look slimy was a lot of fun! The problem with Character brainrot (+to a lesser extent online sessions) is that I had an objectively very fun pathfinder session tonight with Dmitri that even ended in a dramatic betrayal by a fellow pc, however, i was not fully enjoying myself because i spent the whole time thinking about mulligan and putting together the new ship 😭

One of the questions that comes to mind when playing D&D and Pathfinder is related to something you pointed out when you were writing about demons and devils, which to abridge the quote was "Hell is a real place and YOU CAN WALK THERE."
The question I always had was "Why doesn't everyone just move to the Upper Planes?"
You address the issue by remystifying the concept of the afterlife, but in the setting I don't understand why people don't just move to the infinite paradise of their choosing and remove themselves from the horrors typical of the mortal world.
I mean, I've never seen it spelled out why the good™️ celestials aren't engaging in a constant evac opperation to their cannonically infinite worlds of endless bounty, but I think the implied awnser is that mortals aren't allowed into the good aligned planes until their judgement at death... which is really weird when you think about it but d&d cosmology was incoherent from the start.
Something something...the suburban designers of d&d considering heaven a gated community where those people would be excluded by a matter of course, rather than a place even the worst people would be welcomed in once they atoned for their sins.

Can you explain what you mean by Lego block multiclassing? Do you prefer some other kind of multiclassing instead, or do you not like it conceptually?
Basically the D&D 3e/5e model of "every time your character levels up you pick another level of any class."
I dislike it for a number of reasons, including the sheer impossibility of balancing it (Lego block multiclassing hinges on the idea that for a level 19 Wizard, both the 20th level of Wizard and the 1st level of Fighter are worth the same, which, just on the face of it, is absurd), but also for thematic reasons. (it ends up diluting the purpose of classes to the point where they no longer mean anything in the fiction. In a game with classes I think it's 100% okay for the game basically enforce, on a mechanical level, characters adhering to a certain archetype.) And ultimately, if you want to build characters more granularly in a way where their advancement better reflects their experiences and ongoing training, there are games that do it better, without levels and classes even!
Ultimately, I have a few models of multiclassing I like: there's 4e's model of multiclassing via feats, which means that your character still keeps growing in power in their initial class but gets to pick a few things from their other class. (Pathfinder 2e has also pretty much adopted this model) There's also the 4e hybrid multiclassing method which I'm not as familiar with, but which hinges on basically picking your character's class features from two different classes. It still requires a bit of system mastery but basically means that your character will still be on par with other characters of their level in terms of power.
But also, I'm fond of AD&D style multiclassing, where you basically just pick all of your character's classes at level 1 (subject to some limitations) and then you just divide all of your XP gained equally between all of those classes. Older editions already have varying rates of character advancement built into them, so the idea that a character will lag "behind" a level or two is unremarkable, but the most important thing is that because XP requirements basically DOUBLE each level your character will always be able to catch up to other characters at some point.
AD&D style multiclassing is still kind of clunky in its own way, but it's still infinitely preferable to me than D&D 3e style multiclassing.

Chirurgeon Roguish Archetype | The doctor will see you now. You might not see them, though
Tumblr media
PDFs of this and more can be found over on at my Patreon here! I release everything for free, so your support makes this possible. I've also started making a new system based off of 5e, 6th Dawn! Become a patron and join the playtest.
This is a subclass I've been meaning to make for a while now. Those who have played pathfinder 1e may know of the Vivisectionist Alchemist Archetype. This is not a conversion of that, but I am borrowing its vibes. Someone practicing surgery that has more familiarity with the concept of bodies than actually bodies. While I do not replace medicine checks with nature checks, I do use sneak attack for healing… which is the same thing, right?
Bonus Proficiency
I don't believe that medicine is within the list of skills that rogues can get access to. Nor do I believe that the kind of background that would lead to a character that would take this archetype would get it either, so this was a no brainer. Also, in following with my preference to adding diversity to skill abilities, and sort of a reference to the vivisectionist, Dex to medicine. You need a steady hand, you see.
Bedside Manner
This is similar to song of healing, but because I don't want to step on the bard's toes nor did I want to deal with a scaling dice. But while this isn't big and exciting, battle medicine seems more balanced for a later level, besides 2d6 wouldn't be that great here.
Battle Medicine
I'd prefer this to be a 6th level feature, but you know that rogues aren't allowed to have nice things. This is inspired by the pathfinder 2e feat of the same name, with a slightly stricter limitation. I still think pathfinder wanting HP to be functionally infinite, so 1 per day per person.
Bolster Companions
Well, battle medicine is limiting, I admit, so have a little boost.
Rapid Revival
Cunning action raise the dead (non magical)
Sawbones
I mean, if your medicine comes from your knowledge of anatomy, it stands to reason that your stabbing skills would improve with you improved medical knowledge. Flawless logic
And now to plug my stuff. I release homebrews weekly over on my Patreon. Anyone who pledges $1 or more per post don't have to wait a month to see them, and also help fund my being alive habit.
At the moment, they have exclusive access to the following:
And your House, Too!
The Conjoined
Feats: Resoled
Assassin: Rehired
I also have four classes, and two splatbooks over on DriveThruRPG to check out:
The Rift Binder. A class specialising in summoning monsters and controlling the battlefield.
The Witch Knight. A class that combines swords and sorcery in the most literal way.
The Werebeast. A class that turns you into a half beast to destroy your foes.
The Beguiler. A spellcaster dedicated to illusions, enchantments, and general fuckery.
d'Artagnan's Adventurer Almanac. A compendium of races, subclasses, feats, spells, monsters and more!
d'Artagnan's Lycanthrope Survival Guide. A book of lore, stats, and werebeast subclasses for lycanthropes.
