I’ve already forgotten that I started a tradition for myself: every December 1st I show this old comic from 2019 of the Pathologic game
(super fact: tea with dumplings is such a nutritious treat, where strong tea, fatty oil, spices, sometimes flour and meat dumplings are used. there are many recipes, but the basis is tea)
It's so funny to me that Pathologic classic has been retroactively labelled as a walking simulator on steam bc like yeah technically it is I guess, but imagine looking for your typical short and sweet, low stress, story focused walking sim game and ending up in the 60+ hour, occasionally rage inducing, "it's a complicated Russian novel" plague game where people frequently throw knives directly into your skull with impeccable aim.
hi! i accidentally deleted my old account, so im now reposting my old art, hopefully maybe my old friends can find me this way? im gonna be updating these with image IDs as soon as i can recover the old ones i wrote...
Your name is DANIIL. You are visiting TOWN ON GORKHON to uncover the secret to IMMORTALITY. You are a BACHELOR OF MEDICINE. You often recite LATIN PHRASES. You have a passion for THANATOLOGY and strive to DEFEAT DEATH.
And this is my last project for Fanfiction Writer’s Appreciation Day!
It sure is an interesting one. This is a fictionalized record of a LARP game from the POV of one of the characters, written by dearest Goblin. The game was set in the world of Pathologic games, so I used relevant concept art for the covers, and a screenshot for the endpapers.
Kaleidoscopes were a major symbol in the narration, so I used that imagery for title spread and scene dividers. There’s also fun colored text for dream sequences.
Also I hand died embroidery floss for stitching bright blue, because that is the color associated with the featured character.
This is my second time trying a sewn-board binding with breakaway spine, which is very fun to do.
I can’t stop thinking about how esthetically similiar are Olmo Dalcò (Gérard Depardieu) and Alfredo Berlinghieri (Robert De Niro) to Artemy Burakh and Daniil Dankovsky in “Novecento” movie.
I mean...
Plus, there’s a kiss scene. You’re welcome.

My fellow Daniil enjoyers, I have just finished reading A Country Doctor's Notebook/A Young Doctors Notebook by Mikhail Bulgakov, and the protagonist is so Daniil it's baffling. This city boy doctor in his 20s is dropped into a middle of nowhere town in autumn and is given perhaps way too much responsibility over the lives of the people there and oh how he struggles™. He's also just a teeny tiny bit rude (sometimes people deserve it) but also well-meaning and just trying to do his goddamn job.
The whole time I was reading I was almost imagining the mc as a younger Daniil, perhaps before he started his quest against death, somehow finding his way to the town and starting that hospital he always complained about the town not having, and this book being how he would have fared in the absence of the plague.
Anyway, It's very good and I very much recommend if you like patho but especially Daniil as a character. It's very short, ~150 pages (depending on what stories are included in the translation you read).
