Film after film: Apokawixa (It Came from Water, dir. Xawery Żuławski, 2022)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A great idea, mixing the COVID-19 fear with the eco-horror imagery, is thwarted by horrible execution. A group of teenagers with different socio-economic privileging travels to the Polish seaside, at some point in between (or maybe during) several lockdowns to have a post-matura exam party in the mansion owned by the ultra-rich parents of one of them. At the same time, the seaside bacteria turns people into zombies, and local drug-dealing groups wonder how to profit during the no-partying lockdown-inflicted times. It's a super interesting complex setting that could result in the highs of similarly themed films, such as amazing Bodies Bodies Bodies. But the latter, as opposed to this one, had sparkling dialogues (which here are rote) and great actors (who here are pedestrian). While none of the younger actors can act (maybe besides Wojciechowski, who smuggles some emotional tones into his limited on-screen time), what is even more disappointing are performances from the older generation of actors, particularly Fabijanski, who gives the most mannered performance in his career.

Top 10 Best Polish DUBs part 2
6. The Ice Age franchise, similar to the Shrek and Madagascar franchises, seems to be way more popular and liked in Poland than in the USA. While the general sentiment in the US is that the first one is somewhat of an underrated classic and the best and every single one got only worse and worse. Meanwhile, in Poland, its sequels are held in much higher regard. Yet again, it's thanks to the funnier dialogue and much better voice actors. Sid became an iconic character just like Donkey from Shrek or King Julian from Madagascar, most likely thanks to the fantastic work of Cezary Pazura, an actor and voice actor who makes everything he's in so much better. Piotr Fronczewski as Diego is also great with his warm fatherly voice he sounds way more sincere. If Diego had the same voice in the English version he would have even more simps fans. Wojciech Malajkat is great as Manfred. He would later voice Puss in Boots from Shrek. As the franchise went on not only the quality of writing went downhill but also they started casting celebrities instead of the real VAs or even regular actors. Queen Latifah, Drake who was in like 5 minutes of a movie.
Tumblr media
7. Winx Club is way better in Polish, in my opinion. I don't know if it's because their VAs aren't actual teenagers who don't have as much experience, or if they're adults trying to sound like teens and failing miserably, or if their voices are just that annoying. Whatever the case might be the Polish actors strike a great balance between sounding mature but youthful at the same time. Like teens that are on their way to becoming adults but still with some childish tendencies. Not a twelve-year-old trying to sound grown-up or a 40-something-year -old trying way too hard to be cool and hip with the kids. And Polish versions of the songs are amazing.

youtube
8. Totally Spies makes their heroins sound way more mature just like Winx Club. To not repeat myself let me tell you about something different, the dialogue changes. It's not censorship or completely changing the meaning of the dialogue but the vocabulary. In the show, they are very much Valley girls. In the Polish version, they still use slang that was (and still is) used in Poland at the time but they also were capable of using big words. Maybe English slang is more annoying, at least to me.
Tumblr media
9. W.I.T.C.H. BLAH BLAH better and more mature voices BLAH BLAH better and funnier dialogue BLAH BLAH. What is worth mentioning are the voices of the male characters. Caleb's English VA doesn't fit him whatsoever. I know Greg Cipes sounds like that even as an adult but still. If Caleb looked like his comic version he would be fine but not when he looks like he is 18 or older. Imagine my shock after growing up with the Polish deep manly voices only to watch the English version and hear boys who haven't finished going through puberty yet. I've heard that the Polish language is sometimes referred to as snake language because of the ć, ś, ź, ż, sz, cz, and many other sounds, so Cedric's VA has a time to shine. English Phobos sounds more whiny than menacing.
Tumblr media
10. Shark Tale is regarded as one of the worst animated movies ever both in terms of animation and the story. Highly exaggerated in my opinion. I mean it's not great but it's not Food Fight, Video Brinquedo, Animated Titanic, and many others. I think why it's not as hated by me and many other Poles it's thanks to its dubbing. I don't know if you know this, but there is a Polish comedy ''Kiler''. The whole plot of the movie is that the main character is mistaken for a killer. So, the Polish dubbing of Shark Tale is basically a parody of this movie. They even got Cezary Pazura (the guy playing Sid) who played the main guy in ''Kiler''. Instead of gay-lisped Jack Black we have Jarosław Boberek aka King Julian. Now that's a team-up better than the Avengers.
Tumblr media
It was a surprisingly hard list to make, not because there are no great Polish dubbings but because there are so many good ones. Any movie or show could've been on the list. To make it easier I asked myself ''What Polish dubbings are better than the original?'' and ''What dubbings had the biggest impact on me but also on my country as a whole?''.
The reason why most of the list consists of shows and movies from the early 2000s is because that's when Poland had a little golden age. There were a bunch of great movies and shows coming out, so it was easy to strike gold. (And that's when I was born.) Now with all the trash coming out, it's way harder to do. The translators for ''Wish'' tried their best to fix those broken lyrics.
But nobody's perfect. I'm a firm believer that there is no terrible Polish dubbing but they still can make mistakes, questionable decisions, and voices that will make you switch the channel until they stop talking.
See you soon, in ''Top 10 worst Polish DUBs''.

So this strange situation happened at this moment...
Basically, this year my class and our parallel class are organizing an academy for our school to celebrate November 11th and we have a messenger group to discuss everything. At one point, when I mentioned that girls from my class suggested that I play Poland, of course a class idiot from another class had to come up with the text "you look more like a German" and I left it without comment.
Later, after he changed the profile photo of the group to a cat that looked like Hitler, I wrote that if he wanted to put Hitler, he could have at least put Cezary Pazura (Polish actor) as him, and then he wrote: "If I put your photo, it would be the same, "unfulfilled artist" ...... Have I mentioned that I don't comment on it?
then everyone in the group started to bash him for the way he spoke to me, which resulted in him being removed from the group. 👍
then a guy from my class who has been criticizing me for a long time (maybe not that he's bullying me or something (or maybe) and he's not doing it for now because he had a conversation with my pedagogue) informed us that the other guy was apologizing to me, etc., so he wrote back to him and told him to apologize me personally and that I will decide whether to bring him back to the group or not......
Can someone tell me what just happend? lmao I imagine what would happen if dhmis teachers were involved in this conversation. I think we all know how Warren would react to this XDDDD
I'm sharing this with you because it's just too funny for me

Okay but...
What can I say? Kevin Conroy was not my childhood Batman. I am not American - I was born in Poland and grew up listening Batman speaking with a voice of an actor called Radosław Pazura.
In truth, I discovered Conroy's voice acting as a teen. I liked it and appreciated how skillfully he navigates between playboy Bruce Wayne and Caped Crusader, yet my brain was too old to make him the default Batman voice - but I will miss him.
His mastery of his craft. Passion for his work. Bravery to come out as a gay man. Kindness towards his fans.
My heart goes out to his family, friends and all the kids who identify Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne and Batman.

Can you talk more about your time as a film extra? It sounds very interesting
Sure!
It started in winter 2020, during my second year of uni. I studied graphic design and prinmaking, both are expensive af (Adobe programs for design + special papers and ink for prints, one sheet of said paper can cost up to $20/80PLN). I was born in the city that I went to uni in, so there was no need for me to pay landlords or even buy my own food, but still, the materials were bonkers costly, so I decided to earn some money for them. It's really easy to become an extra, all you have to do is find an extra studio (Wrocław has two, I'm signed to ABM to this day), record a scene straight from a shit pseudo-documentary (ukryta prawda, Polacy wiedzą), which isn't published, it's just for them to see if you're ok for speaking roles. Then you sign a paper and they send you emails with movies or shows they need people for. It doesn't pay well, but it's ok if you just need a tiny, tiny bit of money.
My first show was Pierwsza Miłość, it was an episode about some guy getting spiked during a party? I never watched this series before and had no idea what was going on :) But turns out the medical people in Polish TV are actual medical pros and the equipment (like defibrillators) is 100% real! On my first shooting day it was freezing cold, around -8 C, but we could eat and drink everything that was on the tables during the fake party we were filming. I went for that show a few times, since they were making an entire season.
The main event of this job happened last autumn, when TVP (we hate TVP here I hate the government I hate homophobia I hate sexism <3 I want them dead) was filming a (kinda crap) historical drama Kordian. The source material is a classic of Polish romanticism, but they took it let's say liberally. I went because I like the book and it's a historical costume film. A few days before shooting, me and the other extras had to go to the main TV and radio building to get our costumes fitted. I had no idea who was about to play the important speaking roles, and when I found out I was literally shocked? Some of my mutuals know that I'm into Sienkiewicz's trilogy (a book series from the 1880s), which got adapted into movies when Poland was a communist country. I love the films a lot, the most known one is The Deluge (which happen to be the movie with the most historically accurate saber fight in film history), starring some of the most well known Polish actors of that time. And they were about to be in the movie I was in IN THE SAME SCENES? We had mr. Olbrychski (Kmicic), mr. Teleszyński (Boguś) and mr. Nowicki (Ketling z Pana Wołodyjowskiego). And Pazura but I found out he's an awful dude, and he didn't have a role in Trilogy movies, he's just famous. I got my makeup done right next to Pazura and I wanted to punch him in the face because of all the sexist stulejarz stuff he was saying <3
99 % of extra work is waiting, so we did that for like 7 hours (legit) and then played a few scenes by the Wrocław cathedral. It was brutal since I was in a historical outfit and heels on a renaissance pavement :/ I talked to some fellow extras, tbh it was slightly intimidating to be next to mr. Teleszyński, dude is like 2m tall and very, very proud and stoic. Mr. Olbrychski on the other hand is such a walking meme. He's like a million years old, yet I wish to be as fit as he is. Bro literally run off into the churchy distance because he was done with the film crew, smoked a cig and came back only because he was excited to see a horse he was about to ride. (he likes horses a lot and I think rescues horses on his own or somethin??) When he met the horse and befriended him (just a disclaimer, I know nothing abt horses), he got on it and escaped the set yet again, to have a ride around the cathedral. The street wasn't closed off so it was pretty funny watching pedestrians be like "o kurwa was that Olbrychski on a horse rn?". He played his role, it took two takes, his voice is as loud as a whole ass Rammstein live show, pyro included. Also he uses a flip phone from the 2000s. I got a picture with him. I was sitting on the pavement, scrolling on discord, while he just materialised out of thin air right in front of me and talked to some coffee people I believe? So I got up as quickly as I could and screamed CAN I SNAP A PIC into his unimpressed face. He just murmured "yea", and we got a photo. I have a pic with all the actors, but I'm an average young (1970s-1980s) Olbrychski enjoyer and my pinterst board is impressive. Mr Teleszyński I met maybe after 30 minutes of being on the set, as I said he was very stoic but much less done with everything.
I must admit, I expected these actors to be just kinda normal, but they're such unforgetable personalities! Can't say much about mr. Nowicki, because I didn't notice him in the makeup camper :)))) I didn't move my head much since I didn't wanna piss off the makeup artist, it was a different extra that told me we even were in one place together.
That was my last time on a set, but I'm willing to go back once or twice, if they do some other historical movies.

Zaawansowane ustawienia i porady
Tumblr media
Tablet graficzny:
Ustawienia czułości: Dostosuj czułość tabletu, aby była komfortowa. Często zaawansowani gracze używają mniejszej powierzchni roboczej, co umożliwia szybsze ruchy kursora.
Grip (Chwyt): Znajdź wygodny sposób trzymania pióra (stylusa). Zwykle są to trzy główne chwyty: pen grip (klasyczny chwyt długopisu), claw grip (chwyt pazura) i overhand grip (chwyt nadgarstkowy).
Konfiguracja gry:
Rozdzielczość i FPS: Ustaw odpowiednią rozdzielczość ekranu i ogranicz FPS, aby uniknąć opóźnień i lagów.
Input Lag: Zminimalizuj opóźnienie przez wyłączenie niepotrzebnych procesów i aplikacji w tle.
Skiny: Zainstaluj odpowiedni skin, który ułatwi ci grę (np. z większymi hit circle i bardziej wyraźnymi kolorami).
Techniki gry:
Streamy: Ćwicz streamy (seria szybkich, gęsto rozmieszczonych hit circle), aby poprawić swoją kontrolę nad klawiszami i rytmem.
Ustawienia map:
Replay: Oglądanie swoich powtórek to klucz do nauki i poprawy błędów. Sprawdź, gdzie tracisz combo lub trafienia.
Ćwiczenia i rozwój:
Społeczność i turnieje:
Ranking Globalny: Rób postępy, aby wspinać się w globalnych rankingach. Udział w turniejach to również świetna droga do sprawdzenia swoich umiejętności.
Mapy tworzone przez społeczność: Społeczność osu! tworzy ogromną ilość map. Próbuj grać różne style i gatunki muzyczne, aby się rozwijać.
