i’ve literally just seen nope and it’s midnight so this is probably going to be very disorganised and someone has definitely said this better:

the people who we see die on screen that we also get some character for are all trying to perceive jj for themselves right?

jupe is trying to show jj as entertainment - a spectacle - something safe at a distance and under control. both the reporter dude and ant die trying/wanting to get jj on camera. the reporter dude wants footage, for this story he’s pursuing, and everything is just a smaller part of that. ant talks about jj in a glorious way - jj is his impossible shot, his mountain to climb, and thus jj becomes lesser to ants own ego and want for greatness

em’s picture is the only one that is just about jj. she doesn’t look at jj, she’s focused on surviving, and although she’s talking about it around herself, you get the feeing that jj is still the focus - it’s a shot for oprah, and that shot is about jj not about her skills in taking it. in a way she sees jj for what it is, not as a means of personal success but as a separate being that she cannot control

hope this made some modicum of sense, i may be back later with equally messy and old takes on this movie

Honest question, I've been rethinking the whole "Colin has done the same with Penelope Featherington" speech Anthony gave to Daphne and his mother in season 1 and the fact that when Colin talked to his brothers in 3x05 both Ben and Anthony were like "I didn't have a clue" and like... do we think Anthony spent the evening rethinking every single interaction he has ever witnessed between Colin and Pen and every single instance where he let things slide because "oh that's just eloise's friend?" and just banging his head against a wall as Kate laughs her ass off??
