People getting upset about Ken being just Ken in this movie clearly never experienced Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse. That show is basically a precursor to the new movie in the way that it shows the dynamic of Barbie and Ken pretty well. Barbie is the main character, Barbie is everything. And Ken’s stumbling over his own feet trying to be there for her however he can. Not obsessively, not creepily, just golden retriever himbo energy. Ken was never, by any means marketed to young boys, or intended to represent men. He was there to be by Barbies side in all her wacky adventures.

just saw asteroid city last night, pls explain the proposed significance of the kiss!!
answering this publicly hope thats ok! cant do a readmore im on mobile *****asteroid city spoilers below beware*****
i dont remember anyones names so this is gonna sound partly unhinged. okay so the edward norton playwright and jason schwartzman actor (not character, in the black and white parts) are lovers right. tbh i thought this was kind of a gag and forgot about it. but later we find out that the playwright died 6 months into the production. i didnt make the connection that THAT’s why the actor-jason has to suddenly leave the stage and freaks out backstage about how he’s not sure he’s Doing it right. hes not talking about acting!! because he himself is literally grieving his lover while he’s playing a character who’s grieving his wife written by his lover so obviously it’s too much!!! actor-jason is trying to find meaning in his death through his writing but there isnt any meaning in death [gerris drinkwater voice] which is what the play is trying to say anyway. he doesnt think he’s performing grief right even in his own life!!! (and tbh it’s the 50s so he wouldnt be able to perform grief publicly anyway!!!!) the play starts with a car accident… anyone would search for some hidden meaning there, some sign…. so when he talks to margot robbie outside it’s not really about finding the CHARACTER’s motivations it’s about the actor himself being able to process the playwright’s death! and adrien brody director was probably also dealing with that too (him and norton seemed to be good buddies) so the whole “sleeping backstage” thing gets a bit sadder maybe? maybe everyone else got this in the theatre and im just stupid lol but crazy making stuff to me!!! the whole story is about sublimated gay grief that cannot be expressed?!?!
the tweet that caught me onto this was here which posits that the playwright’s death was a suicide but i think that’s pretty stupid and unnecessary because the whole thing about the play asteroid city is that death is random and meaningless. im pretty sure that’s what the alien represents— a shocking and absurd event that isnt outright evil or menacing, not something anyone can predict or make sense of, it’s just a thing that happens to you out of nowhere, it doesnt mean anything. he’s a little black figure, he’s death! giving and taking! aagh

i liked barbie but acting like greta and margot not getting nominated is the biggest feminist issue of our times is so silly. 2 mothers are killed per hour in gaza. women are using tent scraps as sanitary products. women are getting c-sections without anesthesia. fuck off with your white feminism and award shows

It’s gross how the main problem people have with the upcoming Barbie film is age. Not Production, not if the cast is capable of portraying the characters, not who’s directing…just age.
Margot Robbie is 32, nowhere close to being old, but chronically online children who have been convinced that life ends after 25 are disgusted she’s playing Barbie because she “isn’t young enough”. This is heartbreaking, extremely toxic, & especially telling as any Barbie fan would tell you that Barbie Dolls are made in a lot of age demographics, and as of these recent years, body types. Also Barbie was literally created by an adult woman I’m….-
I would say you obviously young women need chill with your incredibly high expectations about this movie of a doll franchise meant for little girls, but what y’all need to do is stop pretending to go hard for women’s youth & beauty not depreciating after 25, only to admit you’d think Barbie would be “less ugly” if the actress was 19.

my opinion on the Blake lively situation
#okay so I never HATED Blake lively#but I did have a feeling about her#so I’d always like purposely not interact or view any interview or anything of hers that came up on my feed#I DON’T like Ryan Reynolds and never have#I just find him a try hard and annoying#and I did not like the couple of Blake and Ryan#they just seemed soooo pick me#so yeah I tried to just ignore the whole downfall of Blake lively that’s been happening#bc sometimes I just don’t care to comment or learn about celeb drama#BUTTTT ofc i got sucked into it#and not Blake tryna have a Margot Robbie in Barbie moment 😂😂#‘bring your girlfriends and wear florals!1!1’ GIRL MARGOT NEVER TOLD ANYONE TO WEAR PINK TO BARBIE IT WAS A NATURAL THING#not to mention I didn’t even realise this movie was about domestic violence as I’ve never read the book#and it was NOT being marketed as one thanks to Blake and Ryan#also why did Ryan have to get involve#ALSO this morning I saw the interview from 2016 where Blake is being rude to the interview#and oh my god it’s awful like SHE FIRSTLY FAT SHAMES HER OFF THE BAT NO HESITATION#then proceeds to ignore the poor interviewer#like doesn’t give her eye contact AT ALL#which I felt so bad for the interview bc I’ve BEEN THERE#this is why I’d hate to be a celeb interview bc imagine getting treated like a third rate individual by these big headed LOSERS who think#they’re better than you just bc they’re famous#I could NOT#anyways also Blake tried to have a whole feminist moment when the interviewer asked her about the clothes she wears in the movie#‘would anyone ask the men about the clothes’#UM BITCH YES??? COSTUMES??? IN FILM?? IS A THING ???#also can I just say Blake has always had the worst hair ever and the fact she has a hair care line is insane bc SHE IS KNOWN TO HAVE BAD HAI#and I never thought her fashion was good like even when people were simping over her met gala outfits I NEVER EVER SAW THE VISION#anyways yeah lol#the interviewer thing triggered me lowkey like HOW RUDEEEE

I think my ideal timeline is after The Muppets (2011) they actually revived the Muppet Show and Disney somehow loses the rights to the Muppets so they can act more unhinged so we could’ve seen beautiful commentary on pop culture events and wacky skits again. I have wonderful ideas for celebrity guests. Lin Manuel Miranda. Chappell Roan. BTS on the Muppet Show. Megan Thee Stallion. David Tennant. I need this.

Barbie and Ken post-canon fanfic where this scene happens at some point:
*Ken is running away from cops*
"Barbie!"
"...Ken?"
"Hi Barbie!"
"Oh my God, Ken! Hi, Ken!"
"Hi Barbie! You wanna go for a ride?"
"You know what- Sure, Ken!"
