you knocked on xavier's art room door. you've been standing here for a few minutes now, debating whether or not to go inside. but you thought it would be impolite, so you kept knocking. maybe xavier was still angry at you after your earlier fight, which is why he's ignoring your knocks.

you sigh, about to turn around, when the door in front of you opens, revealing xavier, who is staring at you with an unamused expression. "what do you want? you've been knocking on my door for the last 5 minutes now," he asked, running his fingers through his hair and wearing an airpod in his right ear.

"i wanted to... talk to you," you say, fiddling with the hem of his sweater. "well, we're talking now, aren't we?" he scoffed and turned around, leaving the door open for you to enter. you looked around his art room and noticed that it was cleaner than before, and that the paintings of the monster that he had created were no longer present.

you enter the room anxiously and take a seat behind the chair he is sitting in. "did you draw earlier?" you inquire, nervously. god, it's painfully obvious how hard he's trying to ignore you right now, but even the gods know he can't. you just have that effect on him.

"yeah, i drew you," he sighs, handing you the paper without looking. you scanned the paper and noticed that it was a drawing of you, sitting on a wooden chair, laughing. it looked familiar. the scenery appeared to be familiar. then it hit you. this was the time you and xavier went on a picnic near the lake.

your cheeks flushed, and you look away, aware that he can't even see you. "look... i'm sorry. i'm sorry for the fight we had, and i'm sorry for saying those things to you. i wasn't thinking, and those words just... came out of my mouth. i don't mean it, i swear. i'm sorry xavier, it's been difficult for me not to talk to you, and it still is, knowing that we aren't exactly on... good terms right now."

you take a deep breath and close your eyes, waiting for his response. you open your eyes when you hear him sigh, only to be met by his. he snatched your wrist and drew you into a hug. he clutched you so tightly that you felt as if you couldn't breathe.

you sighed as you wrapped your arms around him. "i've missed you so much. it was killing me every time i walked past you in the halls and you weren't greeting me. god... you have me wrapped around your finger, [name]. i'm sorry for not talking or apologizing to you sooner. i'm sorry," he mumbles on your chest.

you caress his hair, feeling him hug you tighter. you pull away, holding both sides of his face. you scan his face, your gaze resting on his lips. you draw him closer to you and press your lips against his.

you felt him smile into the kiss and returned the act. you step back and hug him one more time. "i'm so glad we made up... i don't think i could've survived another day without you," he laughed.

you laughed as you scrunched your nose. "someone's feeling a little sappy, hm?"

he laughed and hugged you once more. you buried your face against his neck and felt him kiss the top of your head. xavier thorpe was a complete sap. but only for you.

SCARS TO YOUR BEAUTIFUL (FT. LEO VALDEZ)

synopsis: leo always comes to you when he burns himself, and you’re starting to get kind of sick of it. fluff, child of apollo!reader, takes place after HoO

“you’ve gotta stop being so reckless,” you grumble, when you see your boyfriend heading toward you with a sheepish smile on his face.

“sorry,” he offers, but you know he’s not sorry.

you wave him off, lowering your bow and placing your previously-notched arrow back into your quiver. “where is it this time?”

he holds up his arm. a fresh new burn is glaring at you from the inside of his wrist. you sigh. yes, leo is technically fireproof, but that doesn’t mean spending all day wrapped in tendrils of flame leaves him unharmed. sometimes when he’s tired or distracted, he’ll slip up and accidentally burn himself. he always comes to you when he gets a particularly bad one--you can fix him right up, he says. but some of them leave scars, and you can tell this one today will.

“don’t spend all your free time in the bunker,” you say, touching his wrist. immediately, the affected area cools, and leo sighs contentedly. “every time we don’t have assigned activities, you’re hidden away there. you should be polishing your other skills too. i’d like to see you try canoeing one of these days.”

“polishing my other skills? is that why you apollo kids spend all of your free time shooting arrows?” he shoots back. and gods damn him, you can’t argue with that.

“you really should stop getting hurt, you know,” you mutter, dropping his wrist. “i can heal it, but they leave scars sometimes. case in point.”

he hums in acknowledgement, studying his new scar. “all these scars make it look like i’ve been been through war,” he agrees.

"you have been through war, leo. . ." you brush some of his hair out of his face.

he shrugs. “they take away from my handsomeness. that's not good.”

you roll your eyes--is that even a word?--but kiss the stupid guy anyway. “i couldn’t care less about how the scars affect your ‘handsomeness’, leo. not like they do anyway. i just don’t want you to get hurt.”

you render him speechless for a few seconds. he’s never had anyone care about him quite like this before. he blinks slowly, before a smirk crosses his face. “so you think i’m handsome?”

you roll your eyes again. leave it to leo to make a joke out of anything. but you can’t deny that he is pretty. even if he has scars all over his body from long days in the bunker. especially because he has scars all over his body from long days in the bunker.

“yeah,” you admit, picking up your bow again and preparing to shoot another bullseye. “you’re beautiful regardless.”

What if the Knox and Chris sub-plot had meaning?

WAIT NO GUYS IM SORRY PLEASE HEAR ME OUT I BEG PLE-

Okay I'm starting this post off by restating my downright hatred for Knox. I do not like his character, what he did was wrong, it's creepy and fucking disgusting. I will however like to talk about how his relationship with Chris could have potentially added to the story.

We all know (at least I hope) that practically everything in this film has meaning. I had spent ages wondering why they thought it was a good idea to include this frankly ridiculous sub plot to the story. And then I thought about it. Like really thought about it. I don't exactly remember what I was doing when I thought about it, but I do know that I had DPS playing in the background. (I initially thought about this on April 7th. It is May 29th when I am typing this up.)

So, here are all my reasons as to why I think they added the Knox and Chris sub-plot!

My first point is about this scene:

I believe that this line could be a form of foreshadowing. Yes, it is Knox being a dramatic and insufferable prick but it also feels like it could be more. Obviously it isn't Knox who dies in the end, but the idea of not being able to have something leading to suicide feels very important to the story.

Neil is unable to achieve a career in acting because of his father. As well as this, he is being taken away from his family. His real family. By not being able to have this thing that he so desperately wants, he feels like there is no other solution than death.

Knox says that if he can't have Chris he will kill himself, Neil has practically everything he loves stripped away from him- he cannot have it. So... He kills himself. There is a lot of foreshadowing in this film that hints to Neil's death at the end of the film and I do truly believe that this is a part of that foreshadowing.

My next point is that it is used as a form of contrast.

We see that Knox is extremely open about his attraction to Chris... In a multitude of ways, repeatedly throughout the film. Whether his actions that show his attraction are good or not is a different matter (Knox... God how I hate you.)

Arguably this is used as a juxtaposition. Knox (and Chris?) are relatively open about their attraction to one another- while Neil and Todd are very closed off about it. It is never explicitly stated that Neil and Todd like each other in that way, but through subtext it is heavily implied.

Why might this be? Well, considering the film is set in 1959, it could be because homosexuality simply wasn't legal at this point in time. Neil and Todd weren't allowed to be open about liking each other. Being open about it could put them in danger, they had no choice but to stay quiet.

However, as well as a contrast, it poses similarities between Knox and Chris and Neil and Todd. By setting up this contrast, it only brings to the surface some quite significant similarities.

Because let's be real.

How can THIS be a look of true love...

And THIS not be?

Or falling in love or admiring one's beauty or WHATEVER you want to call it. That's not the point. The point is, they're not that different.

You can see similarities between Knox's behaviour towards Chris and Todd's behaviour towards Neil (and vice versa). One of the main similarities is, well, how they look at one another. I personally don't see how the way Knox and Chris look at each other is true love but the way Todd and Neil look at one another is just... Them being roommates.

The juxtaposition between the two sets of people (I didn't know how else to say this) just doesn't seem accidental. The constant mention of Knox's feelings and love towards Chris just makes the way Neil and Todd interact more obviously... Romantic? Loving?

Their love is stated to allow the audience to see how similar they are to Todd and Neil, while still sticking to one of the key concepts of the film - conformity. Neil and Todd having to conform to societal standards, not being able to share their love for one another.

Knox's feelings for Chris are explicitly stated, repeatedly, because Todd's and Neil's can't. It makes it more noticeable. Neil and Todd's feelings can't really be stated due to the law. So they do it with Knox instead. The similarities can be seen throughout the film in how Knox treats Chris and how Neil and Todd treat one another.

Because again, how can Knox look at Chris like that and that show that he is in love, but Neil look at Todd like that and that just be... Them being friends?

The answer is, it can't. Not really.

Although Knox is a lot more explicit with his feelings towards Chris than the other two are with one another, the feelings they have are the same. Whether it is portrayed in the same way or not, it's love.
