#persona 5 protagonist is from inaba
scrivenger-grimgar · 1 year
Text
concept: persona 5 protagonist has always been able to see using the third eye. tracks from the people he's looking for, fingerprints on code locks, whether doors and windows are unlocked, injuries that people have, whether people have noticed him or not; he's always been able to see the world washed of colour, things of importance glowing in bright neon tones around him. the floating cards were always a bit weird, only some people have them, most don't, and they only make sense when he looks up each card's meaning. and then the fog rolls in and people start dying, and now some of the card people have figures that follow them around. he is 11 years old and has no clue what's going on, but the crow guy that he meets is very cool, which might be narcissism because they are apparently one and the same.

Hey! Can I have headcanons of persona protagonists [ Yu,Minato,Ren] kissing SO for the first time? Thank you!
persona 3/4/5: first kiss headcanons (minato arisato, yu narukami, ren amamiya)
notes: no spoilers, gn!reader, fluff, ren amamiya for persona 5 protagonist
Tumblr media Tumblr media
minato arisato
a bit nervous, but shows it by being a bit more quiet and shy than usual.
hides his gaze under his lil emo bangs as he asks to kiss you!
probably in his room after hanging out all day at the strip mall
"hey, um, do you want to, like... kiss? maybe?"
you're ecstatic and your heart quickens at his cute look and shy demeanour. he was just adorable!
you agree, and he leans in with his hands on his knees. he's about to press his lips to yours when he brushes his bangs from his eyes (just so they don't get in the way)
his lips are decently soft, if not a bit chapped (in his defense, it's been a cold autumn so far). he's a bit tentative when kissing but overall he's just a bit nervous about your boundaries!
gives you the cutest look when pulling back.
"...you're cute."
NO HE'S CUTE
Tumblr media
yu narukami
probably asks you to kiss him first while on a walk on the hill overlooking inaba!
he stops walking, his hand in yours, and turns to look at you. he grabs your other hand and smiles as his eyes meet yours
"it's been a great day so far. thanks for going out with me." he flashes you one of those charming grins - god, they melt your heart!
"of course," you reply, "i love spending any time with you."
"yeah." yu replies, seeming a bit... out of it. like something else is on his mind.
"what's up?" you tilt your head and yu can't help but find it super cute!
"it's just-- i... okay, listen, you're super cute and i'm so lucky to be your boyfriend, may i kiss you?"
wow. that came out... all at once. after recovering from his quick word vomit, you nod with a blush on your cheeks. with that affirmation, yu moves in slowly.
he lifts one hand to cup the bottom of your chin and leans in. his eyes shut gently and he presses his lips to yours.
he's firm yet gentle, definitely sweet. he's probably kissed people before, but none of that matters when he pulls back and looks into your eyes with the most adoring gaze you've ever seen
Tumblr media
ren amamiya
he's been acting strange all week. walking you to and from places, stammering and trailing off his words... hell, he's even been acting fidgety in the metaverse when he usually dons the persona (heh) of the confident joker, leader of the phantom thieves!
eventually, it gets to be so much that you confront him after an excursion to mementos.
as you two are walking back from the subway, you pull him aside.
"hey... is something up? you've been acting weird all week, and i'm getting worried. you know you can tell me anything, right?" you ask.
ren glances aside, not really feeling like being honest. instead, he only mutters, "can we go to my room?" in response.
it makes you start a bit, but you understand the sentiment. he wants to talk alone.
so, you two go to the attic above leblanc and sit down on the edge of his bed. he, once again, starts to fidget.
"what's on your mind, ren?" you ask.
"i just... uh..." ren's lip trembles slightly as he tries to explain. he eventually gives in with a sigh. "we've never, like, kissed, have we?"
you pause. "no...? no, we haven't."
it's a moment before ren responds, smiling. he pushes up his glasses.
"i think we should." wow, okay. smooth ren is back. but he's still a bit of a dork, especially with those glasses.
"like, right now?" "right now. if you want to, that is." "duh i want to, idiot!" you scoot closer to him and smile softly at him, waiting for him to make the first move. he suggested it, after all.
ren moves closer and soon closes the distance with a kiss. his hair tickles your forehead. you kiss back as one of your hands finds its way to hold his, your fingers intertwining.
when he pulls away, he's still smiling, but he isn't trying to hide his blushing cheeks.
"...you're free all evening, right? wanna do that some more?"
Tumblr media
a/n: i tried my best! my writing chops for the protags are a bit rusty, but i hope you enjoyed! i tried my best to not fall into tropey pitfalls with these guys (aka trying not to write yu as a chad or w/e)

severely dissapointed at the lack of Aika Nakamura cameos in the "Persona 5 protagonist is from Inaba" fics because why yes, she should turn up in momentos to deliver food and no, you're not allowed to explain it.

P4 Protagonist's Starting City
I guess this is fitting to post about after I just got home from Tokyo lol. This is something I brought up in the "Is Namatame an outsider?" post. There is a bigger, more detailed explanation than the one I gave there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the beginning of Persona 4, the protagonist is shown standing at a train station that has a sign saying "Inouesen" and "For Akihabara" with a green stripe going through the middle. The "sen" is like saying "(train) line", so he's riding the Inoue Line at some unnamed station and he's boarding at track 5.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The green stripe on the sign, the green train, and the mention of Akihabara gives away that the train line he's riding is based on the real life Yamanote Line in Tokyo. They don't name Tokyo, but Persona 3/4/5 seem to take place in the same universe, and Persona 5's map of Tokyo does have Akihabara on the green train line.
As for where he's riding the train from and to... hmm, lol. That's hard. Maybe he's at Shimbashi Station? The Yamanote that would go in the direction of Akihabara is on track 5 at Shimbashi and is also on an outside lmao. I'm not a train otaku - maybe I need to meet one and ask them about this.
I have nfc where he's taking it to either. We know that his ultimate destination is Inaba. Perhaps he's going to Tokyo Station to catch a connecting train to wherever Inaba is?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the subject of Inaba: I'm still a fan of Tottori as the physical location of Inaba, and Atlus has also written about using buildings in Fuefuki as references. The train that the protagonist rides to the Yasogami terminal is a parody of the Azusa (a real train that stops near Fuefuki) that says あとらす / Atlus instead of Azusa on the nameplate lol.
For an extra level of detail hell: The protagonist has a text message from Dojima saying to meet at the station at 4pm. Can you go from all the way from Tokyo to Fuefuki or Tottori by 4pm?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These aren't perfect since the protagonist has another local train to catch after making it to Yasogami Station, but for the most part: Yeah. For Tottori, you can even ride the Super Inaba for part of the journey.

To give you some more perspective:
The oldest confirmed Persona user (Boafu) is 33 years and 9 months older than the youngest (Sumi).
Tohru Adachi is just two years the Persona 2: Innocent Sin cast's junior.
Katsuya Suou is turning 50 next year (2023).
The only confirmed S.E.E.S. members that are not yet in their 30s (this 2022) is Junpei, Ken, and maybe Koromaru [if he's still around which I hope so].
Sojiro Sakura might be the same generation as the Persona 2: Eternal Punishment cast.
Ryotaro Dojima (1970) is the same generation as the P2:EP cast and is three years younger than Boafu, and three years older than Katsuya.
Reiji Kido's child is probably the same age as Ken Amada and the Phantom Thieves.
Please send in any additions or corrections! I'll edit this the list if necessary.

oops i've been dead lately and i apologize for that but this excerpt from an interview with hashino about why p4 didn't get a femc option has altered my brain chemistry recently and i've been having the brainworms ever since
Tumblr media
like. how the fuck is moving to a small town from a big city a masculine trait. hello???
so anyways, i've been playing through p4g again and just thinking about things from the lens of a female protagonist and how the vibes and dynamics would change and it's actually made the experience with my least favourite of the modern trilogy a lot more fun. ( i mean, i like 4. i just like it the least out of it, 3, and 5 lmao )
more of my shenanigans under the cut because hoo boy i uh. yeah.
so anyways i've gotten attached to this hypothetical p4 femc and ended up designing her / giving her a name...........
female main character's 'default' name is ( in eastern order ) yoshinaga madoka; 吉永 ( good luck, perpetual ) 円花 ( circle, flower ). the idea 'circling flower of perpetual good luck' sounded really cute and vibed well with yu narukami / its meaning, so.
madoka is yet another cousin of yu's and nanako's. dojima can just have two sisters, it's fine. should she be chosen as the protagonist, her parents take on what we know about yu's: constantly busy and moving around with work, and they've now been sent overseas so now their daughter must go stay with her uncle in inaba. if yu's chosen ( so, in canon lmao ) she's out there somewhere living her best life with normal ass parents hehe.
madoka keeps izanagi as her starter persona, because screw you if p3's femc got to keep orpheus, madoka can have izanagi. as a treat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
next to yu for comparison and hypothetical outfits + tv world glasses concept. going into this, i wanted p4 femc to be distinct like kotone, rather than just yu but girl. since he has a very silver + dark colour palette in his hair and outfits, i wanted madoka to contrast that with gold + brighter colours. i kept the gray eyes, though, just because i thought they looked good. the circle frames are a work in progress; i like the thought of them because of her name.
i wanted to take yu's badass kingpin imagery and translate that into something gentler yet still... queen bee-ish, if that makes any sense? i really wanted to project the image of a reliable and approachable girl with this sort of. charm and charisma to her, but not in the stereotypical alpha bitch sense.
anyways.................... i love her, your honour

The Persona 5 Post-Mortem, Part Two: What I Did Like 8)
Okay let's talk about what I liked about Persona 5 Royal because despite tearing it a new one last post I think it did a lot of good things.
Joker is a great fucking character.
We made it, folks, we did it. We have a player-directed mostly silent protagonist who is just bursting with personality.
My biggest and loudest complaint about Persona 4 Golden was the protagonist. I felt like he was such a blank, empty void that the game frequently had to compensate for the space he should have filled.
Joker was the perfect answer to almost everything. He was vibrant, funny, heartfelt, and kind of a bitch. He had force of personality. There was backstory to him that drove the story. Instead of "grey dude staying in small town for a year, no further details available" we had
"Do-gooder gets framed for assault and is forced out of his small hometown, moving to Fucking Tokyo to attend a prestigious but strict high school, all while being told at every turn to make himself small, to not make waves lest he fuck up his life more. He tries to do as he's told but his desire to push back and protect people gets him in trouble almost immediately."
P4MC gets involved in the Inaba murder mystery because he fell in a TV; Yosuke is the one with personal motivation to start with. Joker gets involved in the Metaverse because he's genuinely motivated to help people and push back against authority. If you took out the personas, the wild cards, the supernatural element of this story, Joker would still be an interesting person and something would have happened to him regardless.
Joker also is much more than a passive observer to the plot. He is a catalyst. He is inherently wrapped up in the central conflict. He's a showoff, he has a vicious grin when he's pulled off something clever, he's actually a Trickster. He's a fucking character!
And while he is player-directed, Joker absolutely, genuinely has his own motivations separate from player control. He has attachments that the player doesn't decide for him, and in Royal it becomes the most shocking moment of the game.
There is more authorship to Joker, and he is not just the player's avatar. There was zero reason for P4MC to be gender locked because he was almost entirely built from the player's projection. Joker succeeds by being his own person who the player is guiding.
The secondary cast of the game is frequently very good.
Hot take: I think Sojiro is a better character than at least half of the Thieves. He's more complex, has more gravity, and feels like a part of the world in the way the literal main cast often does not.
And it's not just Sojiro. I think the non-teammate SLinks in P5R are broadly speaking much better than the previous games. Yeah, I am annoyed at how much Atlus just cannot stop writing grizzly sad dads while keeping single moms off camera, but. i cannot deny that the actual characters we get are good.
Sojiro, Maruki, Kawakami, Tae, Iwai, Toranosuke, even Mishima who I hated as a person but have to admit he was an interesting link. Compared to previous Persona games, I was more interested and invested in more SLinks in this game than in P3 and P4. And honestly I don't think any were Actively Terrible like, say, P3's Hanged Man or P4's Devil.
I think this is aided by how varied the SLinks are. Many of the SLinks in P3 and P4 are other students, and that kind of limited what stories they could tell, imo. In P5R, we have an ex-yakuza gun nut who adopted an abandoned child, a fairly unethical disgraced doctor who is trying to test a new drug, a failed politician who still believes in governance of the people-- these are interesting! They're good! Not to be flippant but they're better than "yet another classmate, but this one is Wacky because X reason."
Living in digital Tokyo was honestly a delight.
Okay yes I have some complaints about the lack of localization in P5R's environments and how the lack of context really hurt a few sections of this game and I really stand by that.
HOWEVER, as someone with a dear friend and penpal in Tokyo, it was... honestly really nice to explore the city as much as the game let me. One of the real joys of the game was just experiencing a simulacrum of that space for a year. I got a laugh out of the POLLEN WARNING!!!! days and how similar they are to my own days in Georgia. And as someone who has never lived in a city and only academically understands how they are laid out and function, just exploring busy streets was fun.
A few times, i skipped using the Fast Travel menu just to walk to the various places I needed to visit.
I loved Kichijoji the most. 8) And the little moments when i recognized a place (my gasp of delight at the FIRST TIME I saw Shinjuku!!!), that was fun because learning the layout of Tokyo gave all those locations more of a sense of scale and place.
Inaba was frankly very similar to my own super small midwestern town in America. Digital Tokyo was a new experience I really enjoyed.
Morgana was a talking cat that slept in Joker's school desk and rode around in his bag.
Enough fucking said. As someone who is not a dog person, it's nice to finally have a game for the Cat People. Finally some goddamn representation.
Yes, I think Joker faking his own death and Yaldaboath as the final boss were messy as hell, BUT...... they were stylish.
I could (and have) sat here and poked holes in these sequences, the two Huge Setpieces that anchor the game. We all know by now that both are messy as hell, don't make a lot of sense, and don't really hold up to scrutiny.
However: unlike the Izanami reveal in P4G which Just Sucked (and I will never stop mocking), these flawed climaxes are smoothed over by the full tilt all-in bombast employed.
They were fun enough to make me go "well, I can't be mad at every damn thing." Which is something.
The Third Semester/Royal Content.
This probably needs to be its own post, because it is dense enough to be its own game and singlehandedly saved Persona 5.
Part Three soonish!

It’s February 2017, and the Phantom Thieves have failed.
Reality has been overwritten, and the effects of it have spread beyond the borders of Tokyo to the rest of Japan and the world.
However, there are still those who Takuto Maruki’s influence doesn’t touch: a group of Persona users from years past, who are determined to find out what is causing the changes in their hometown of Inaba and the world beyond.
After 5 years, the Investigation Team reunites to solve one more mystery, attempt to return reality to its rightful state, and save their successors along the way with an unexpected ally by their side—Tohru Adachi.
He was about to start the next paragraph when he heard the clinking of the guard’s keys in front of his cell, and a man’s voice said, “Alright, Detective Adachi, time’s up. Let’s get you out of here and back on the job.”
Detective? Back on the job? Tohru narrowed his eyes at the guard and sat up slowly, instantly suspicious. “What do you mean, get me out of here? I’m in here for twenty years.”
The guard laughed as he swung open the gate, “Always the funny guy, aren’t you? I know you city types always take these inspections seriously, but you really must get into character, huh?”
Tohru looked him over and scoped out the room, waiting for the catch. Was this a test? A hidden camera shtick? “Character? What—is this some kind of practical joke?”

Okay so like before I get into any writing, I want to talk about Shinji after the events of Persona 3, and into Persona ⅘ events ect ect to help people understand my portrayal a little bit since this blog is still under construction.
First things first, the canon ending for my portrayal is the Comatose Ending from P3P, meaning the whole social link with Minako and the pocket watch happened ( minus the dating. I don’t ship him romantically with the Protagonists, but I think he still could have been saved without the romance ect ect ).
After getting shot by Takaya, Shinjiro went into a coma for an entire year. If you’re wondering about the final battle, and how Shinji speaks to the protag when going one on one with Nyx, it’s because of Castor, and his connection with Minako/Minato, he was essentially watching that whole thing during his coma, as if he were dreaming. His soul was there during that fight to help. He was there, despite his body being in the hospital.
When he comes to, a year later, he’s aware the protagonist is gone. He has his own feelings about it, but over all, he knows what was done was for the right reasons. What he doesn’t know are the events of FES & The Answer, as he was in his coma during that time.
Shinji is 19 when he wakes up from his coma. He ends up finishing high school, so he can go to culinary school and get away from everything for a while. At this time, he had custody over Ken Amada ( @sociallinked ) and ended up opening a restaurant in Iwatodai, simply called ‘Aragaki’s’ as he couldn’t be bothered to think of anything more interesting. It’s successful, becomes the talk of the city eventually, and Shinji finds himself quite relatively busy since his restaurant is generally packed. It’s a small space, Ken helps him around with the place sometimes. He’s the head chef with his small staff helping around ( probably no more than 5 ppl including himself and Ken ) Shinji would be 22 with his own bustling business ( yea I know he should be 20 during the events of P4A and for my own portrayal I say no, bc Shinji is my oc now and this lore is mine and Aki and Mitsuru DO NOT LOOK 20, DO NOT LOOK AT ME. )
During the events of P4/P4A, Shinji has gone to Inaba a few times to get some things he can’t get in Iwatodai for his business. He has felt something off there—but keeps to himself when he tends to visit. With P4A, he is ( reluctantly ) part of the Shadow operatives, as well. He’s more focused on his own business and raising Ken and taking care of Koromaru, however, he will help them out when it’s needed.
I have to go over @foolshoujo p5 verse again before I can put it in here bc I coordinated Shinji’s P5 verse to that. Stay tuned.

Hero Artifact: Yu Narukami
Full Hero Artifact Masterpost/Explanation here
I am not limited to one main protagonist per franchise since, I already did Joker from Persona 5.
I am trying not to do repeat artifacts when I do these, and a LOT of heroes use swords, so I need to be particular.
Mirrors reflecting the true self I felt was a good theme for Narukami. Forged from the very land of Inaba with Marie and Izanagi's Lightning.
From Wikipedia's Mirrors in Shinto page:
"Some mirrors are enshrined in the main hall of a shrine as a sacred object of the divine spirit, or are placed in front of the deity in a hall of worship. Mirrors in ancient Japan represented truth because they merely reflected what was shown, and were a source of much mystique and reverence." Fitting for P4's themes of Truth.
Also, "It is believed a mirror helps a believer see a true image of themselves and their devotion and worshiping the divine within themselves." Divine within themselves sounds like it could fit Personas, which tend to be gods.
The Roman Numerals around the round mirror are meant to represent Yu's Social Links, with the glowing ones being people he is more closer to. The black/blank ones are the normal people of Inaba, the blue ones are his fellow Investigation Team members as well as Nanako and Dojima, Red is Adachi (that is the number for Strength but the Thoth deck makes it Hunger), and the Gold ones re the Velvet Room girls of Margaret and Marie. The 0 for the fool (aka himself) can turn into the XXI for the World when using it at full power.
I also included some Shide paper stramers for the sacred Shinto vibe. The Kanji in the mirror is "Shin", which can translate to True, Genuine, Pure, Just, Right, Reality, and Genuine.
The mirror can also assume other forms:
* A more rectangular mirror, which can act as a screen. Either viewing faraway places like a magic mirror, or seeing into inaccessible places. Using Its lightning affinity it can even pick up on TV signals for free Cable, or act as a TV World portal if need be. It can even grow and shrink from normal handheld phone size to flatscreen TV size.
* Special glasses that can see through layers of reality.
* Yu can merge it with his sword to form the Regalia blade, taking aspects of the Three Sacred Regalia of Japan and combining them all into one, allowing him to dispel any falsehoods or illusions.

Shiroku Pub and Ryugu Palace
Truly going through all of my drafts tonight or something.
The deity of the main shrine at Tatsuhime Shrine is Toyotamahime, a sea creature who could also transform into a human woman. She was a princess and daughter of Wadatsumi who's loser husband, Hori, ditched her after finding out she was a monster girl. During Golden, some more allusions to Toyotamahime and her tale were added in-game, namely to Shiroku's new nighttime snack bar.
Tumblr media
At night time, the protagonist can visit Shiroku Store which turns into Shiroku Pub. During the day time, the sign reads 四六, pronounced shiroku ofc, meaning 4 and 6, and the shop UI has a frog or toad lookin' guy on it. This refers to a saying about how Japanese common toads have 4 toes on its front legs and 6 toes on the back -- but this is only at a glance, it's actually 5 and 5 lol.
Per Persona Club P4, the store originally started as a pharmacy of sorts, and it took its name from the saying about the 4/6 legs on the common toad as merchants used to peddle 4/6 toad oil as effective medicine. (Through six degrees of something, this can also be correlated to cattail [the fictional city of Inaba's plant], which can then be linked to the Hare of Inaba myth too lol.)
Tumblr media
At night time, the shopkeeper turns the store into a bar called Snack Shiroku, or Pub Shiroku. Additionally, the signage changes, and Shiroku is now written as 紫路宮. This is also pronounced as shiroku - different kanji with the same sounds but different meanings. The first character means purple, which likely is why the night time store UI is purple. (There's also a vague connection between the color and the toad oil bit, but uhh.) The 2nd character is like saying road or path, which... I don't think is particularly important (or I'm dumb idk) off the top of my head. And the 3rd character means palace, which we will tie back to our tale of Toyotamahime.
Toyotamahime's tale starts off with Hori (a descendant of the Imperial line from Amaterasu) looking for his brother's lost fish hook, and so he ventures to the undersea palace of Ryugu Palace in search of it. He marries Toyotamahime and hangs out at Ryugu Palace for a while. After, he gets his brother's fish hook back (it was stuck in a fish's mouth, oops) and returns to the surface with Toyotamahime.
Golden's changes to how fishing unlocks involves the protagonist taking the role of Hori (well, ok, not really, but maybe kind of?). The old man by the Samegawa River mentions losing his fishing hook and sends the protagonist on a quest to retrieve it somehow. The protagonist can find the lost hook by going to Shiroku store at night when it transforms into Shiroku Pub (the "palace"), and getting it from the shopkeeper's pet fish. As in the tale, her pet fish Akihiko also has a fish hook stuck in his mouth, and he gives the protagonist "Ryugu" stones in exchange for feeding him insects. I guess this also makes it the 2nd time the protagonist gets to to be a stand-in for the loser husband (the other being Izanagi, of course).
